Bauern dürfen nach einem Urteil des Europäischen Gerichtshofs selbst Saatgut aus alten Pflanzensorten herstellen und vermarkten. Das Urteil ist eine Schlappe für Konzerne wie Bayer und Monsanto und schützt die biologische Vielfalt.

In 2013 wird innerhalb der EU das Thema Saatgut behandelt. Es könnte zu Restriktionen oder sogar "Verbote" für Saatgutaufbewahrung und Saattausch kommen.

Menschen (Bauern/Landwirte) machen genau das seit Tausend von Jahren.

Warum soll diese Handlung nun kontrolliert oder verboten werden?

Wen will der EU "schützen"?

Der erste Entwurf eines Saat- und Pflanzgutgesetzes wurde 1929 vorgelegt.

Die Vereinigten Staaten schufen 1930 eine Patentierungsmöglichkeit (US Plant Patent Act). Auch in Frankreich und den Niederlanden wurden recht früh Schutzsysteme geschaffen. 1938 wurde die Züchterorganisation ASSINSEL (Association Internationale des Sélectionneurs pour la Protection des Obtentions Végétales, inzwischen mit der Fédération Internationale du Commerce des Semences (FIS) vereinigt) aktiv.(Quelle: Wikipedia: Sortenschutz)

Calls for profound changes in our agriculture and food systems are becoming more frequent and more insistent.

What would a sustainable food system look like? Is it possible to get from here to there? What would need to change to move us in that direction? World Food Day 2013 is an opportunity to explore these and other questions, and help bring about the future we want.

A grassroots movement that emerged out of the anger of a young US mother about the growing number of genetically modified organisms in our food, the political clout of large Biotech companies like Monsanto, Syngenta, DuPont or Dow, and the failure of politics/governments to inform and protect their citizens.
The outpouring of anger and the will to bring about positive change was demonstrated in cities around the globe on 25.5.2013 by millions of activists who took to the streets to voice their concerns.
