I Came, I Saw, I Conquered

2012-05-08T17:57:00.001-05:00

The day that I'd been waiting for, for years, had finally come. I'm officially a college graduate! You have know idea how much I'd gone through to get across the stage and have the feeling of success! It was a joyful experience to see my family and friends cheering me on with smiles and laughter. I've never felt so good!

I did my invites myself because my schedule was hectic, and this was beyond convenient. I didn't mail any out unless someone messaged me personally to let me know that wanted one for keepsakes. I thought placing them on Facebook and tagging family and friends was much easier--I think it worked out perfectly.

I don't know if you could tell, but I was going for a cute "retro" pinup natural hairstyle. For my first attempt, I think it looks pretty bomb. I think I'll try it again, but a different method. I'll let you guys know how I did it in a video or something.

Though you can't see them, I wore Steve Madden platform sandals--they were sickening! My dress was a classic black dress from H&M, and my nails and toes were painted with Sally Hansen's Xtreme Wear polish in Mint Sorbet.

I think these colors together were cute and compatible!

(mother's side of family and my beautiful cake from Aunt Tani)

I'll have plenty more of photos to show you in another photo gallery post, and I do mean plenty.

I'm so excited to have graduated. I'm proud of myself for not being fearful and discouraged even though their were times those feelings wanted to take over. I thank God for the family and friends he sent my way to help and push me through this process.

I love you all, and I promise to continue to make you proud!

New Music Nasir Jones- The Don (explicit)

2012-04-28T08:10:00.000-05:00

All I have to say is that I love this song! Salaam Remi, Da Internz, and Heavy D knew what they were doing when they created The Don! The first official video from his new album Life is Good, and I think it was a great choice. I heard this song while looking for 5 bucks that had been misplaced. I didn't find the 5 bucks--yes I'm bitter, but the song his awesome! Juno (my car) and I will enjoy this on our riding mix this summer.

Everyone may not have a hidden thug inside of them like I do,

so let me know what you think:)

Style Tips from Andre' Benjamin

2012-04-15T12:32:00.000-05:00

I've always loved him. I could post any man on my blog to share style tips, but of course, I will always choose him. His style reminds me of the fearless men back in the day that weren't afraid to have an interest in fashion and style. My favorite tip is to embrace yourself and what you like. Embracing who you are will always be my #1 tip in everything from style to personality and beyond. Take a look at Mr. Benjamin's interview and let me know what you grasped from watching it.

My 1st Bantu Knot-Out

2012-04-09T19:12:00.002-05:00

Since I've gotten rid of my boxed braids, I needed to figure out something quick I could do to my kinks before bed. Having my braids made me spoil! I've grown bored and tired of braid-outs--the results weren't always what I wanted. Now I'm in love with Bantu Knots! It's so quick and cute! When I unraveled the knot it left such a cute spiral/krinkly kink! I loved how the ends weren't straight, which are usually the results of my braid-outs. I used shea butter to put em up , and to take them down I used olive oil... Simple as that. In conclusion, I love the Bantu knot-out! That's that!

The style kind of reminded me of Whitney Houston's earlier hair :)

What I've Been Up To

2012-04-01T21:41:00.003-05:00

Hey hunnies! As you know, Patrick and I have been creating videos for students here at our university, and I have two videos to share with you.

The first video is a graduation invite!

We figured with the internet being so advanced, and graduation paper invites being too expensive to get thrown away, we'd do videos for ppl to e-mail around the world!

(Renetra Gist's Graduation Video Invitation)

(Shelby Rodger's for SGA President)

This video is to promote students for SEC (Student Election Campaign) for any student running for a position at the university. This video in particular is for Shelby Rodgers, who's running for SGA (Student Government Association) President.

Let me know how you like it??

New iPhone App: VidRhythm

2012-03-28T15:48:00.000-05:00

Found a new iPhone app for you guys, again! I don't know how it's happening, but I find a cool one every other week. This new app, called VidRhythm, is so awesome that I want to make it my blog's commercial! It records sounds you make with your mouth when you're mimicking an instrument like a drum or horn, and it tunes your voice to where it creates an entire song with only your voice! Does that not sound enticing?

Below is where I got my inspiration to do my own video.

Miss Erykah Badu's VidRhythm

I did my own. There are different styles and music genres you can choose from, and I chose to do Hip-Hop!

Patrick looked at me like I was crazy while recording, but he's the one that missed out on the fun.

So, I really wanna see you guys' videos if you ever get a chance to play with the app!

I Am Trayvon Martin

2012-03-22T12:56:00.000-05:00

George Zimmerman is a murderer. February 26, 2012, Zimmerman took the life of Trayvon Martin. 17 years old and unarmed, Treyvon Martin yelled for help as he was chased down by Zimmerman in his gated community in Sanford, Florida. Zimmerman, 28 years old, has not been charged for his actions. If I'm not mistaken, Police are supposed to protect their community from drug users, robbers, and murderers like George Zimmerman by law...right?

(Wanting justice for Trayvon Martin. photo source: Shadeeeeen & Mslacy)

I just found out about this last week. I wouldn't listen to the 911 call because I knew I would hold on to him yelling "help!", forever. I had no idea that this happened, and so long ago. It's outrageous that since that day he shot Treyvon Martin, George Zimmemran has been a free man.

We can't arrest George Zimmerman, but we can make sure that it happens.

change.org

is a website that allows you to sign the

Trayvon Martin's Petition to prosecute George Zimmerman.

Trayvon Martin's family wants justice.

We should want them to have justice. There is no reason why an innocent young man's killer is not in jail.

In Love With Low-Down Loretta Brown

2012-03-21T16:15:00.000-05:00

I'm writing this because I'm having my moment with this artist. I typed in "Erykah Badu Interview" into youtube today, and what led me to this Youtube search is my iTunes shuffle playing "Bag Lady". Hearing the song made me want to look at the video (below). I've never stopped listening to Badu, but sometimes I forget how amazing she is. I think it was watching the video that reminded me of how much of a leader she is.

The way she thinks and deliver messages musically, is admiring--Not to mention her awesome sense of style.

(photos:Tumblr)

Bag Lady made me want to look at her interviews.

This lady is BOMB.

This video made me fall in love with her all over again. I love how she's sure of herself and everything around her, but appreciates the experience of growth. She's so aware and wants her people to be, too--I appreciate women like her.

You know I love new iPhone apps! With all the cool things you can do with the touch of a finger--it puts alot of frustration to rest.
I came across this new app, Cinemagr.am, that's a cool mixture between a short movie and Instagram.

What I like about the app is that you get to see through another person's photographic eye (does that make sense?), and what their eyes focus on.

Check out some of my beginner cinemagr.ams!

Seasoned Style By Rachel Beau

2012-03-16T17:16:00.002-05:00

I was on the phone with my mom a few weeks ago, and we were talking about normal girl stuff. While we were catching up, she mentioned that she wanted some tips on how to transition her style as she got older.

I thought to myself,

"she can't be the only person feeling this way".

So, that conversation with my mom inspired me to do a mini posts series on how I think both Men and Women can remain stylish throughout life.

24

2012-03-13T23:06:00.000-05:00

Hey readers! It's my birthday today! Yes, I'm 24. I have no problem sharing my age, even though someone mentioned to me how I old I was today. If you asked me where I thought I'd be at 24 ten years ago, it would be completely different from where I am, now. I can say that at this moment in my life, I'm growing more and more in love with myself. I've realized the many things I'm capable of accomplishing, and how amazed I am of my mind. Though birthday's are extra special, I thank God everyday. I have consistent love all around me, and I'm very grateful for this beautiful life!

To everyone who sent me Happy Birthday wishes through texts, phone calls, and social networks--

Love & Thank You

BIG POPPA 3/9/97

2012-03-09T13:19:00.001-06:00

Notorious B.I.G, Biggie Smalls, Big Poppa; whatever you choose to call him, it doesn't change the fact that he goes down in HIP-HOP History as one of the greatest MC's! Today marks the 15th Anniversary of his death. Though it was tragic and mysterious, he and his music will never be forgotten.

(freestyling in Brooklyn)

We all know the popular songs that still come on the radio and the video shows, like Big Poppa, Hypnotize, and the one when Lil' Kim killed it-Crush On You.

Yes, all of these Biggie jams are the classics, but I have a few personal favs of my own that I'd like to share with you!

Who Would Put Cotton On Their Wedding Cake?!

2012-03-07T08:58:00.000-06:00

There's this wedding blog called

Green Wedding Shoes .
Not that I am, but for anyone who is, this would be a fabulous resource for inspiration and ideas. I like the blog because it showcases love, art, creativity and emotion.
There are plenty of wedding pictures and videos throughout the blog, but my favorite, favorite, and favorite wedding video is

Jeanette and Finley Highlight from Cabana Pictures on Vimeo.
First thing first, Nina Simone's "Feeling Good" was their choice of music for the film, which screams and yells soulful taste. The wedding's ceremony was held in an art gallery with a Black Historic type of style. Jeanette says she is a fan of handheld style film sort of like some of the scenes in Love Jones. I loved everything they did with the cotton and duck feather accents because I never would have thought to put any of that on my wedding cake. The groomsmen paper boy hats (1 of my favorite hats) were adorable and the bride's dress looked beautiful and refreshing. The whole theme was beyond classic and historic.

The highlights of their video were everything I needed to see to recognize that their wedding was done in good taste.
What do you think about it?

Make Joseph Kony Famous!!

2012-03-06T12:24:00.000-06:00

This morning I did my usual breakfast and Tumblr routine when I have absolutely nothing to do. I like Tumblr--sometimes more than other blog and social network sites. It's very easy to share and show interest with your followers and friends, and most of all it's easy to raise some type of awareness.

Among other awarenesses on Tumblr like missing children and campaigns that I always try to re-blog, this story in particular is a mixture of everything in one. I think every person in the world should know about this.

Who is Joseph Kony?

He is THE WORST LIVING CRIMINAL. He abducts children and makes them use guns and weapons to torture and kill their own families. Young girls are forced sex slaves, and the abducted soldiers of children are called the

Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA). He's abducted over 30,000 children and forced them to be child soldiers in Central Africa (Uganda). Like Adolf Hitler and other figures, his explanation for such irrational actions is his hunger for POWER & PRAISE. He remains at large because he is INVISIBLE to the world. Few know his name, even fewer know of his crimes.I hope you read this and share this with as many people as you can. There is no way this should be happening to NO ONE. These children need to return home, return to school, and return to their childhood.

WE NEED TO MAKE Joseph Kony FAMOUS!

Tuesday Morning Luck

2012-02-29T11:47:00.000-06:00

Happy Tuesday loves! I hope everything is going as pleased. My gut from 2011 told me that 2012 was going to be a great year. I'm still learning myself, but I'm falling in love with the woman I'm becoming. I woke up this morning at 7am for my 8 o'clock class, and I was already kinda feelin' goooood. On my way to my car I just happened to look down for a quick sec and saw this green lil' lucky fella. Pretty awesome, huh?
