When I was growing up, America&#39;s opinions were shaped by a handful of influential people whose advice on any subject under the sun (but usually national affairs and politics) could be read, first, in newspapers... then heard on the radio and television.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
These are great names, masters of pungent comments, wry humor, intelligent observations, and refined styles all their own. Here is my (partial) Honor Roll... one could add many others, the very best of the very best:&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Westbrook Pegler of the United Press (died 1969).&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
H.L. Mencken of the Baltimore Sun (died 1956).&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Edward R. Murrow of CBS (died 1965).&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Walter Winchell of New York Daily Mirror (died 1972).&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Paul Harvey of ABC (died 2009).&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
And now another name, destined for greatness and the prosperity that generally accompanies it, can be added to the list:&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
YOU!&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
I&#39;m here, your advisor and friend, to assist your rise to global eminence, as Internet blogger and meaningful commentator par excellence.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The Internet has made it possible to become such a commentator. You now have a power, and at your fingertips too, previously reserved to the few; now available to anyone. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
You are now able to comment on and draw forth the true meaning of events great and small, events of cosmic significance and the little secrets that someone (usually office holder or government official) didn&#39;t want anyone to know, thus motivating the commentator to be sure to disclose.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Now you can be a new, soon to be important voice... a voice of humanity, intelligence, stern admonitions and home truths, resoundingly delivered. In short, you can be an unceasing engine for truth, justice, and the improvement of mankind, in a style and with a spin all your own. Kool.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Here&#39;s how to begin and prosper.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Most bloggers, think small, picayune, trivial. You cannot.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Their authors, that is, chew more than they bite off. (Sadly, I cannot take credit for this telling mot. Mrs. Henry Adams rendered this artful observation on the ponderous American author Henry James. She later killed herself, but probably not as a consequence of this remark.) Your view must be different, broad, cosmopolitan, catholic in the best (non-sectarian) sense.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
If you want an important blog, write on important subjects. This formula is tried -- and true.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Always talk directly to your readers.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The great commentators of any age and culture never address the world en masse. They talk directly to you, as in a personal conversation between someone with Something Important to say... and someone anxious to learn it, all of it.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Use your blog to tell stores.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
People need more than facts, assertions, and (worst of all) windy pontifications to attract them, though this is what they get from most blog writers.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
People have always liked... and will always like... interesting tales. Great communicators like Jesus, Gandhi, Franklin Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln were expert at capturing the full attention of their audiences... and what&#39;s more, keeping it with stories with a beginning, middle, end.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Develop a format. Make it your signature.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
All the great commentators, like the ones listed above, delivered their comments in a certain, defined way which the folks who followed them immediately recognized. You must do the same.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Enter into the lives of the people you are commenting on... and the ones you are delivering your comments to.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The best commentators enter into the situations and conditions, nay into the very skins and brains, of the people they are writing about. This is what gives their comments an edge and credibility.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The goal of the great commentator is most assuredly not to set up a card board effigy of the person he is writing about. That&#39;s unfair, inadequate, infra dig.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The objective, instead, is to show that you truly understand the people and events you are writing about... then make your comments about them, pungent, fair, honest, aphoristic accordingly.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
This is not easy to do... but it is what great commentators do... and which makes them irresistible to readers.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Avoid pedantry, but never the chance to instruct.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The purpose of a blog is NEVER to show how smart you are. It is to inform, educate, edify and instruct your readers, all done with the lightest, but always sure, touch. In short, it about enhancing their smartness...never merely dazzling with your own.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Thus, don&#39;t use your blog as the opportunity to demonstrate how clever and intelligent you are. Commentators are not, and always eschew the opportunity to be, ponderous. That&#39;s the role of too many professors from the Academy. Such people do not flourish, in blogs or elsewhere, because their readers flee andante.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
You must capture and enthrall them, not as professors do by forcing attendance, but by entrancements, the apt selection of topics, the masterful presentation of what you have to tell... and the unique way you present it.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Master the great information sources you will come to rely upon to glean critical facts for your comments.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Read, on line now, the New York Times and Washington Post, to name but 2 key sources. These publications, soon to be history because of the Internet, will inspire you with both facts and story ideas. Scrutinize them closely.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Use too the Associated Press reports and those of UPI and Reuter&#39;s. They are crucial for providing both story ideas and the hard details which give your commentaries backbone and grit.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Learn to master the art of searching the great search engines, where the crucial supporting information is available whenever you require it,which means whenever you want a comment taut, never flaccid, girded by fact.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Use the Wikipedia, one of the greatest information sources ever. It is a noble idea, essential to commentators, ever available. Bravissimo.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
One last thing. Set your blog publishing schedule... and stick to it.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Your readers want, indeed insist upon, predictability and regular delivery of your blog. Give it to them. If your publishing date is each Thursday at 12 noon Eastern time... adhere to it, religiously. &quot;Punctuality,&quot; as King Louis XVIII of France observed, &quot;is the courtesy of kings.&quot;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Nowadays your readers are the sovereigns, each and every one. Succeed with them... and your results and benefits, financial and otherwise, are assured, abundantly so. These are your masters, your audience. Treat them accordingly and soar.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;br /&gt;
Author&#39;s note: To get yourself in the mood for this article, go to any search engine and find some of the tunes of Gladys Horton and her Marvelettes, particularly &quot;Please Mr. Postman&quot; or &quot;Don&#39;t Mess with Bill.&quot; Kick off your shoes and remember Gladys Horton was all about a catchy rhythm and grooving at the soda shop with your main squeeze. Put on your head phones, close your eyes, and it&#39;s 1961. Gladys Horton, just 15 years old, is on top of her game...&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
To think of Gladys Horton, you must first of all remember her times. Dwight David Eisenhower still cast his mantle of security over the nation, although as Gladys&#39; tunes hit the top of the Hot R &amp;amp; B/Hip-Hop Songs and the crucial Billboard Hot Singles, John F. Kennedy was getting himself nominated for President, spending daddy&#39;s money lavishly.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
It was a time when good girls were expected to fight for their virtue in a known ritual that left that virtue intact... and their boyfriends exhausted. Good girls did.... but only after securing a tangible token of the boyfriend&#39;s affection. And it all occurred against a background of music, including that all important dance music... loud, raucous, catchy, blaring in every teenager&#39;s life.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Denizens from those mellow years like to call them innocent, romantic, simpler... and perhaps they were. But if you were a poor black girl from Inkster, Michigan they were anything but uncomplicated. For you had your way to make in the world with just your slender talent... and your one shot was a new record company situated on West Grand Boulevard in Detroit.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
This was Motown, and though America didn&#39;t quite know it yet, this was about to become the most important place in the world for teenagers everywhere. It was ground zero for that frustrating, elusive beat that Motown executives needed and which they became so very good at finding.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Gladys Horton, in 1961, was in the right place at the time right. And, right from the get-go, she was lucky. She came as part of a quintet... but though Motown eschewed groups of 5, ordaining that only groups of 3 were welcome.... this day they made an exception and allowed this larger-than-usual group to audition before Berry Gordy and Smokey Robinson. Gordy was looking for his first Big Hit... and he had a feeling about these girls.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
They passed this audition... and this break proved to be their launching pad. So far... so good. A second audition was scheduled.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The second audition got down to the business of finding a song for the group now called the Marvels. Pianist William Garrett had a few ideas for a blues tune he titled &quot;Please Mr. Postman.&quot; It was unfinished, only a few words, no music. That didn&#39;t matter. Motown was about to prove it knew the secret of spinning dreams (and money) from next to nothing. It&#39;s what made them great. Gladys Horton (and Georgia Dobbins who wrote their first song, although Garrett got the credit) helped show them the way...&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&quot;Please Mr. Postman&quot; was the result. It was sweet, it was snappy, it had the right &quot;good girl&quot; message... and most important of all, America&#39;s teens could dance to it and let themselves go.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Gladys Horton and the soon-to-be-called Marvelettes began the high flying ride of their lives and, for this exceptional moment, they were living their dreams... while they relied on the unflagging energy that comes with youth... to show themselves to a nation that just couldn&#39;t get enough of these peppy girls, their simple message, and that beat, that wonderful beat. &quot;Please Mr. Postman&quot; was their elevator to heaven and for a while, that wonderful while, it took Gladys and the Marvelettes where they all wanted to go: up!&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
That was the good news.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The bad news, although they wouldn&#39;t know it for some time, was that that sweet little tune, their first record, was destined to be their most popular and biggest seller. In other words, the moment when life was sweetest would prove be a flicker, a tease. They had peaked... and they weren&#39;t even 17.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Still, they didn&#39;t know this yet and Berry Gordy and Motown remained committed to these girls... for a while. After all, they had delivered when he needed a hit and needed it Now. And so, in due course, there were 21 Hot R &amp;amp; B/Hip-Hop Songs and 23 Billboard Hot 100 hit singles. Of these hits 3 were Top 10 Pop singles, 9 were Top 10 R &amp;amp; B singles; their debut was #1 on both charts.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
It was good... but it wasn&#39;t quite good enough. And, besides, there were the usual cat fights, personnel problems, and mistakes, including an embarrassing gaffe on American Bandstand in 1962.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
None of this would have mattered had the girls had Talent, that elusive je ne sais quoi that no one can quite define... but which we all know when we see it.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
A girl named Diana Ross had it... Gladys Horton didn&#39;t, quite. But without Gladys Horton and the 6 other girls who, at one time or another, were members of the Marvelettes, there might not have been a Diana Ross. Berry Gordy, after all, cut his teeth on them... Katherine Anderson, Wanda Rogers, Anne Bogan, Georgeanna Tillman, Juanita Cowart, Georgia Dobbins.... and Gladys Horton. They helped build a great empire that transformed American culture at a time of American greatness. Moreover, when all is said and done, they had a longer and more fruitful run than most of these fragile, evanescent girl groups and their boy group counterparts.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Now Gladys Horton is dead too soon of a stroke, January 26, 2011, aged just 66. But (some of) her music will live on. My favorite is &quot;Too many fish in the sea.&quot; (Released 1962). It has legs... look it up... and dance! You won&#39;t be able to help yourself; your toes will tap...the true legacy of the Marvelettes... and Gladys Horton.&lt;br /&gt;

House Speaker John Boehner, tears,and masculinity.</title><content type='html'>by Dr. Jeffrey Lant&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The advent of a boisterous Republican majority in the U.S House of Representatives should have been the happiest day in the life of Representative John Boehner (R-Ohio). After all, he was elected Speaker, climbing the greasy pole and getting a sumptuous office with all the trimmings. So, what did he do? He cried, copiously. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Outgoing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California) by contrast remained dry-eyed as Boehner took the Speaker&#39;s gavel from her. Indeed, as she handed over the gavel, she appeared chipper as all get out. Tears were not on her agenda, despite the fact she was giving up a high office she would likely never grace again.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
What&#39;s going on here?&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
It&#39;s all about who can cry, where, how much, how often. In short, we are in the midst of an epic cultural change from the stiff to the quivering upper lip. To provide guidance on this subject I checked Scripture:&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
John chapter 11 verse 32 -35&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died (33) When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled, (34) and said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see.(35) Jesus wept. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
That should have ended the debate on men crying, at least for believing Christians (if it was good enough for Jesus....), but most assuredly it did not. That&#39;s because we must understand why Jesus wept and what that suggests about when and about what a man is allowed, by prevailing cultural standards, to cry.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Jesus wept because he loved Lazarus. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Jesus wept because he came too late to save his friend.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Jesus wept because to do anything to help Lazarus now, he would have to use his divine powers, thereby providing a miracle. This deed would completely change his life. He would, through this act and the rising of Lazarus from the dead, transcend from being merely a teacher and healer to his divine status. This would irrevocably change the way his followers. hostile authorities, and people generally perceived and dealt with him. The stakes couldn&#39;t have been higher. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
It is little wonder, then, that Jesus wept. And in so doing helped us understand when we men could weep, too.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Masculine tears are permissible at the death of a loved one.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
When a man loses his spouse, child, parents or close friend, especially unexpectedly, tragically tears are not only acceptable, their absence would cause remark and adverse comment. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Such tears are rightly regarded as a form of graceful tribute the living pay to the dead... and a form of blessed relief the dead grant the living. Such tears so given touch the heart and enrich the spirit of all who see them. They cannot but be deeply affected and so participate in the event. When a man cries at such a time and in such a way, he never cries alone.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Nor will a man cry alone when he performs a great deed for the benefit of others and is recognized by these others for the deed done for them.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
We can imagine, though not prove, the scene following the resurrection of Lazarus. Touched by the son of God, he rises. Awe, wonder descend on the observers. Lazarus, all incredulity and humble gratitude, reaches out and speaks... tears in his eyes and in the eyes of all who saw but cannot yet entirely believe. And here, too, we suppose, Jesus wept, for the joy of the event, for the return of his friend, and despite the troubles for himself he had thereby ensured.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Men may cry when reminiscence occurs. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
There will be, when men suffer great loss, constant reminders, bitter sweet and painful. Walking into a room, he may suddenly be seized with a poignant memory about the loved one gone but revived intact and painfully by memory. Not only memories but tears well up. The sharper the memory and reminiscence, the sharper the pain, the more likely the tears, which fall of their own accord as one gives way to loss and remembrance.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Men, in short, may weep at times of great joy and great loss and profound importance. Such events in the life of any of us are rare, consequential, and require the benediction of tears. For such events, tears add a kind of unique beauty and significance.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
This is why weeping in other circumstances must be limited, for frequent tears diminish their significance and effect.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;

You thought of family, sacrifice, the people who had helped you along the way and the nation you could now greatly serve... you wept tears of great joy. We savored your achievement, grateful to share this moment with you. After all we all have dreams we hope to achieve, share, relish and enrich with tears.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
However, Mr. Speaker, a word of caution.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Do not devalue this moment by too frequent tears, as you seem likely to do. Too great frequency of what is manifestly acceptable and desirable on other,greater occasions will change you from an honored person of profound and irresistible emotions and sentiments into nothing less than a sniveler, thus generating great and general contempt and destroying your position, no matter how exalted. Too many tears on too many occasions act as acid, not exaltation.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The great debates on what constitutes acceptable behavior for men will never end, as fashions on this subject wax and wane. But let another politician of lacrimose tendencies, Hubert Humphrey, Senator and sometime Vice President of the United States, have the last word today. Basely and rudely criticized by some for indiscriminate weeping, he at last fashioned the best possible response,&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&quot;A man without tears is a man without a heart.&quot;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
It is worth remembering.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;

That man is the President of the United States, Barrack Obama, the pampered resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. The man with the biggest, most important job in the&amp;nbsp; world... a man whose golden prize offers immeasurable possibilities for transforming lives... but seems to give him no joy at all.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Seen a photo of the president lately?&amp;nbsp; His lips are pursed, brow furrowed and intent, the body language contained, controlled, the famous &quot;don&#39;t touch me&quot; quality, smiles cool, fleeting, and unbelievable. Is it any surprise his presidential ratings have dropped like a stone? We all want to like him... but it&#39;s becoming increasingly difficult because he doesn&#39;t seem to want to like us... &quot;the people&quot; he is there to serve, inspire, motivate, and enhance.&lt;br /&gt;

Start with your smile&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
A smile doesn&#39;t mean all is well. It is not some cosmetic to mask reality. Rather, it is a statement that, whatever else is going on, bad, even catastrophic, you intend to be a beacon of welcome, someone striving to lighten the load for others, not to contribute to it by your gloomy visage and off-putting demeanor. In others words, you intend to make a heartfelt difference, one smile at a time. Each smile is a sign of possibilities, unlike a frown, scowl or evident disapproval which is a door shut and locked in the face of all who unhappily come across you.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Do you welcome your customers... or merely (and inadequately) acknowledge them?&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Watch yourself as you perform your daily customer contacts. Are you easing the way for others with a manner congenial and forthcoming? Even the great French King Louis XIV, master of the greatest of kingdoms, used always to doff his bonnet with celerity and style to EVERY woman he encountered, be she serving wench or marquise.&lt;br /&gt;

Count the moans, groans, whines and all the renditions of &quot;poor little me&quot; in a single day&lt;br /&gt;

As is clear from his quoted remarks above, President Obama, is a man with an unflattering tendency to invite folks to feel sorry for him. Him! President of these United States! Him! Waited on everywhere he goes... with access to the world... flattered... consulted... revered... deferred to. Rich, powerful, caressed, cosseted to a degree we can only imagine... yet wanting us to feel sorry for &quot;poor little me&quot;, whose job is so hard, so demanding, so limiting. Come on!&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Your customers want what we want from our chief executives: the power of potential; a feeling that here, right in front of us, we have a person of care, empathy, concern, and sincere interest; a person who enthuses us about the road to come, difficult yes, challenging to be sure, but replete with possibilities for all. Is that how you approach your customers, as a person of possibilities, an empowerer, for whom the glass is always half full, not discouragingly half empty? With whom do you think&amp;nbsp; your customers want to do business?&lt;br /&gt;

It takes many things to be a business success, conjuring sales and profits wherever you go; products of value, excellent personnel, offers that cause folks to pause in their tracks. If you are like most marketers you have a snazzy website that you either spent good money on or you have laboured to build yourself. Now all you have to do is promote it. Right? WRONG! Before you spend one dime to promote your website, read this article. Don&#39;t make the same mistake made by 90% of marketers that costs them thousands and thousand of dollars, lost leads and lost sales.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
You do NOT want to promote your website as your primary method of generating leads. Here&#39;s why.&lt;br /&gt;

If your website is like 99% of those I have reviewed, it&#39;s copy dense. You&#39;ve got links, video, flash, offers, affiliates, graphics, pages, charts, forms, RSS Feeds, blogs, Twitter feeds, the Daily Weather, and a little or a lot of other organized chaos. The viewer (your potential buyer) doesn&#39;t know here to look, what to click on, it&#39;s information OVERLOAD. (This is all great for key word content for Search Engine Optimization or general promotion but NOT the best way for generating leads). The result is immediate. If they don&#39;t instantly see what they want they click OFF. Say Goodbye to your lead! You might as well add, &quot;Sorry I wasn&#39;t a little more clever about helping you get what you want so I could get what I need.&quot; The SMART marketer understands this and says, I want to meet the needs of my viewers. I want to convert my viewers into leads. That means giving your visitors a positive FAST loading experience with an immediate offer and a call to action. This is a very precise experience with a very specific message and directive. How do you this? By creating what is called a Landing Page strictly for promotional purposes.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
What is a Landing page? It&#39;s also known as a Squeeze page because you are squeeeeezing information from the viewer, converting the looker into an actual lead. The concept is simple, pitch an offer, the looker completes a form. They are enticed by the offer, you get a lead. You&#39;ve converted a looker into a LEAD!&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Why is the promotion of Landing Page(s) INSTEAD of your website critical? It&#39;s simple. Keep your potential buyers happy and YOU will get better advertising results. Specifically, a fast-loading landing page that includes a headline with an immediate benefit and a call to action. Example: HERE&#39;s what you GET! Followed by punchy benefits of what else they get, concluding with an offer and a lead form.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Now, here is a critical point for all you advertisers who think graphics are the king, that more is better. Take a quick lesson from an experienced marketer (who is also a designer). If you do nothing else to improve your ad copy - get rid of the fancy and weighty images. Often an overabundance of graphics detracts from your marketing message. We have tested boring simple text ads against the exact same ad copy on a rich graphic landing page. Guess what? The simple ugly plain text ads consistently got higher click rates than the graphical ones. We eliminated instant play video, got rid of flash, and used just really good ad copy. Landing pages with no video perform better than those with video. Why is this? Videos can take a while to load and may not add immediate value to what you offer. You often have less than 30 seconds to get your message into the brain of the viewer. Well-chosen key words get in the brain of your potential buyers IMMEDIATELY when time and limited attention is critical. We humans are greedy. This is a fact. We have short attention spans. We want something and we want it now. Smart marketers recognize this and tell people what they can get and how to get it if they act now!&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
One of the powers of a Landing Page comes from the fact that you can create a specific Landing Page for EVERY product you offer. You can create them quickly and test them. If you create a dud that gets no result, replace it by creating another. Many advertising sources offer an option to pause a campaign which means you can cancel one ad and replace it with another more effective one before your ad dollars are depleted. Compare this to making edits to a web site that can take considerable time for major marketing changes, while a Landing page can be put up and taken down in minutes.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Finally, remember where you are marketing - online. Full page colour graphic ads do well in a full page print ad. My guess is that you don&#39;t have the 10 K + for a fully page glossy ad. You are most likely relying on the tried true tested forms of free an low cost advertising like Traffic Exchanges and Safelists. These are powerful ways to promote your product or service and are ideal for simple Landing Pages. In fact you WANT a fast loading simply ad for Safelists and Traffic Exchanges because you have a very limited (20 sec or less) to get these people attention. Keeping it simple is just as effective now as it always has been. Graphics used effectively can bring your ad alive, but very few other than professionals can master this combination of copy and graphics to solicit response.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Ok, I want to make sure I have made this point clear as it is so very important. Use LANDING PAGES to generate leads for specific products or services. Use your website to promote your company in general. Landing Pages are ALL about the reader and turning them into a lead. If you want to stock your website with page after page about product development, research, your years in business, how wonderful you are and your customers think you are, put all of that on your website. Content about your company, products and services is of course valuable for many reasons, post it to your site but don&#39;t rely on this as you one and only lead generator.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Now, let&#39;s dig a little deeper into your advertising strategy. Look at your ad or your landing page. I mean really look at it.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Do you have a clear benefit headline to get attention. Do you follow this headline up with benefit-laden offers, reason after reason why people have to act now! Do you include an invitation to DO IT NOW offer that will motivate your reader to become a buyer! Or if not a buyer at least to take some action - to respond to your offer, join your newsletter, try a free sample, participate in a free trial. Whatever get them to DO something! You accomplish this with well written offers not with blinking links, and boring videos that take forever to load. Have you included an OPTIN to your company mailing, newsletter, product updates etc? This is a CRITICAL inclusion. A Landing page doubles as a List Building Tool. Do not underestimate this. Landing pages and list building work hand in hand as required marketing tools.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Review your advertising material. Is it about YOU or is it about your potential buyer? If the ad is more about how wonderful you are then about how beneficial your product or service is to the user, you have what is called an EGO ad. Your ad should NOT be about you, or your company, or that you are family owned business, or that you support charities. Your ad has one purpose: to tell people all the benefits of what your product/services offers and why they need to act now to get it! Want a quick lesson in this strategy? Watch late night infomercials. See how these infomercials verbally hit you over the head INSTANTLY with all the BENEFIT OF X product. You are drawn in more and more because they offer you X, then add Y to it. But wait if you buy now you get X, Y and Z too! Watch how they give you the pitch, make the offer, then make a better offer, and than a limited time offer to motivate you into action NOW!! Great marketing offers value and a sense of urgency to get an immediate action. &lt;br /&gt;

Ok here is your homework. If you don&#39;t have an ad strategy that accomplishes this you have failed your first lesson in online marketing. Go back write it again, take away distraction of video and flash. Whittle your ad down to ONLY what matters to the buyer. Get back to basics. Your goal is always to compel action. Don&#39;t risk making anyone wait to see what you offer. Get to the point instantly. Web surfers are easily bored. Get their attention INSTANTLY or they are gone! You may get a hit on your ad, but you can quickly send people away with a poorly thought out advertising strategy. It wasn&#39;t supposed to end this way. John and Elizabeth Edwards had a plan.... and were entirely, happily focused on its achievement.&lt;br /&gt;

Having failed to achieve the Democratic presidential nomination in 2004 (which didn&#39;t worry this effervescent pair one whit), their task was clear: persuade Massachusetts senator Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry that they (for then they were always a couple) were what he needed for victory.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Then work relentlessly to move up.... a second vice presidential term in 2008.... then the heady joys of the 2012 Democratic presidential nomination... then,&amp;nbsp; as they strode into their inaugural ball, &quot;Ladies and Gentlemen, the President of the United States and the First Lady, Elizabeth Edwards.&quot;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Theirs was more than a plan... it was a reality so clear and certain they could taste it.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In these days, Elizabeth Edwards did as she was told.&amp;nbsp; Her task (unannounced of course) was nothing less than helping America swallow John Edwards, preparing the way for his all-but-certain coronation.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Even in the early days, America was cautious about Edwards... he was too handsome, too glib, that Southern golden boy smile flashing too often, too automatically. We might be persuaded to like him... but we didn&#39;t entirely like him yet.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Which was where Elizabeth Edwards came in. She we could identify with at once. Her smile was warm... her manner congenial, believable.&amp;nbsp; People didn&#39;t know her then... but as they did, they liked her. While catty commentators purred that she looked like his mother, mothers everywhere thought: &quot;if he could truly love this good woman of a few extra pounds, he was indeed a good man and worth a second look.&quot;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
It was a winning formula.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
But, it was threatened from its earliest days.&lt;br /&gt;

Are you sure, senator? Well, okay, I erred&amp;nbsp; but just (he was adamant) for one night and the child being hawked as his own was... someone else&#39;s. Not his, so help me God.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Are sure, senator? Well, okay, the affair was longer than I said... but, I swear, the child is not mine.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Are you sure, senator? Well, okay, it is my child, sure as shooting.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
And what of Elizabeth Edwards? Struggling as she was with an illness getting more and more serious she had, at that exact moment, to confront the fact that her husband, the man she believed in,&amp;nbsp; had lied to her and lied and lied&amp;nbsp; again, always confident of&amp;nbsp; the forgiveness that golden boys believe is theirs when their mates are plainer with extra pounds. There was here, as there always is, the whiff that she was lucky to have him, then flash that thousand-volt, always-winning smile, the one that makes friends and influences people. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
This time it didn&#39;t work... for, in Elizabeth Edwards, America was already aware of what she had that was so deeply lacking in her unrelentingly cynical and prevaricating mate. She was real, genuine, authentic, a woman confronting the failure of her body and her mate with self-control, dignity, and honesty. Thus, John Edwards learned the hard way that you cannot cheat on the woman you have lied to when that woman is in the process of becoming a saint.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In her last Facebook session, Elizabeth Edwards said a graceful good-bye to her many friends worldwide, people whose lives her authentic behavior and courage had inspired:&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&quot;I have been sustained throughout my life,&quot; she wrote &quot;by three saving graces -- my family, my friends, and a faith in the power of resilience and hope. The days of our lives, for all of us, are numbered. We know that.&quot;&lt;br /&gt;

Thus, simply, Elizabeth Edwards ended a life of events spectacular and heart-rending. At the end, she was no longer defined as John Edward&#39;s wife, the designated junior partner. She had long ago surpassed him in importance and stature. It was she America looked to for inspiration, kindness and care. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Scourged by the tragic death of her beloved first-born son, by the blatant betrayal of her mate,&amp;nbsp; and by insistent, weakening health crises, Elizabeth Edwards showed us all how to grow while confronting issues which cripple and demoralize so many. In private, she no doubt gave way to doubt, pain, and that sickening feeling when one confronts the loss of life and love. Thus, at her deathbed, there was the feeling that a great lady was passing. Thousands worldwide stopped to inquire how she was... and to wonder at her unfailing generosity even at this penultimate moment. &lt;br /&gt;

I think in the end, seeing for him a long life without any of his dreams achieved... or even an ability to dream at all; I think she smiled at him, knowing all, forgiving much, and held his hand for a moment, ready for an eternity she did not fear.&lt;br /&gt;

It was Bill Gates, the sage with prophetic talents&lt;br /&gt;
and the deepest of pockets, who said it first: &quot;Content&lt;br /&gt;
is king.&quot; Per usual billionaire Bill was right.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Problem is, he omitted the directions on how to&lt;br /&gt;
produce the site and article content&amp;nbsp; you need so much. Humbly,&lt;br /&gt;
I rectify his omission.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Here then are the necessary steps for producing&lt;br /&gt;
web site and article copy that sells.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
1)&amp;nbsp; Know thy audience. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The purpose of creating site content is to build &lt;br /&gt;
relationships and loyalty with your designated populations... &lt;br /&gt;
and produce content that gets them to RETURN and RESPOND.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Are you, therefore, clear on just who you are&lt;br /&gt;
producing content for?&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Say you are running an insurance agency and&lt;br /&gt;
want to insure more business from people with&lt;br /&gt;
large and&amp;nbsp; valuable art and artifact collections.&lt;br /&gt;
Before you write word 1 of content, you must know&lt;br /&gt;
and WRITE DOWN a description of the kinds of&lt;br /&gt;
people you want to attract. Every word you write&lt;br /&gt;
thereafter, all the content you produce is for --&lt;br /&gt;
them!&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
2) Write content that brings you business&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In this report, I am showing you how to write site&lt;br /&gt;
content that sells. For details on how to write the&lt;br /&gt;
great American novel, you must seek other counsel.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Thus, your next step towards producing site&lt;br /&gt;
content that sells is to brainstorm subjects and to&lt;br /&gt;
craft the all-important title. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Again, consider the insurance agent aiming for&lt;br /&gt;
lucrative antique collection accounts. He needs a&lt;br /&gt;
title like this: &quot;7 things you need to know about&lt;br /&gt;
insuring your antiques and collections.&quot; Alternatively, &lt;br /&gt;
try this&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&quot;7 things you don&#39;t know about insuring your&lt;br /&gt;
antiques that make you vulnerable.&quot;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Or, &quot;5 things you can do right now to &lt;br /&gt;
decrease the cost of your antiques insurance.&quot;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Note: a title like this peeks reader interest...&lt;br /&gt;
the public designated for this content wants to&lt;br /&gt;
know, is desperate to know, just where there may be&lt;br /&gt;
holes, flaws, and omissions in their policies. Your&lt;br /&gt;
content (and your title) play to their need to know,&lt;br /&gt;
including fears and anxieties which motivate prompt&lt;br /&gt;
response to you.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
3) Brainstorm subjects to be included in your article&lt;br /&gt;
or site content&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The most cogent content is brainstormed and&lt;br /&gt;
outlined before a single word is written. First, and&lt;br /&gt;
most importantly, sit down at your desk and write&lt;br /&gt;
down the topics you want (and your reader must&lt;br /&gt;
have) in this content.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Personally, I take one 8 1/2 by 11 inch sheet and&lt;br /&gt;
(in my execrable hand writing) detail all the key&lt;br /&gt;
points about the subject at hand.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Then, having brainstormed all, I arrange these&lt;br /&gt;
points in logical order, thus: first do this, then this,&lt;br /&gt;
then this, etc. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Brainstorm and point prioritizing are key to&lt;br /&gt;
successful content.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Note: for best results, you should have no fewer&lt;br /&gt;
than 5 points in any individual article or not more than&lt;br /&gt;
10. The content may appear skimpy and inadequate&lt;br /&gt;
if you have too few points while having more than 10&lt;br /&gt;
over burdens&amp;nbsp; your reader (and future customer), causing&lt;br /&gt;
him to postpone reading -- and response!&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
4) Now write.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
You are now ready to write the content, for you have&lt;br /&gt;
considered your audience and what they need to know&lt;br /&gt;
(and will most thank you for); you have brainstormed&lt;br /&gt;
the subjects to be included and arranged them in&lt;br /&gt;
the proper order. Yes, you are ready to write.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Sit yourself down in your writing place (you do have&lt;br /&gt;
one, don&#39;t you), a place&amp;nbsp; where you can write undisturbed,&lt;br /&gt;
inviolate to the crafting of superb content&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Go there now. Determine your writing schedule. You&lt;br /&gt;
should be able to produce draft site content in 2-4&lt;br /&gt;
hours, depending on how experienced a writer you &lt;br /&gt;
are. Always set a date and time for the conclusion of&lt;br /&gt;
Draft 1. Never leave it open-ended. Things without&lt;br /&gt;
deadlines are things less likely to be done.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Note: Remember, what you are writing now&lt;br /&gt;
must be a conversation between you and your&lt;br /&gt;
reader (who is, let&#39;s be clear, your future customer,&lt;br /&gt;
too.) The content must,&amp;nbsp; therefore, be written accordingly.&lt;br /&gt;
The word &quot;you&quot; (meaning you, the reader) must &lt;br /&gt;
predominate. You must not write for an amorphous&lt;br /&gt;
audience of the unknown. You must write instead to&lt;br /&gt;
and for the chief benefit of each individual reader...&lt;br /&gt;
just as if the reader was sitting beside you and&amp;nbsp; you&lt;br /&gt;
were explaining one thing after another of importance&lt;br /&gt;
to her. This is vital.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
5) Read, review, revise your content.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Now hear this: the best writing is re-writing. Thus,&lt;br /&gt;
when you have finished Draft 1,&amp;nbsp; let it sit overnight.&lt;br /&gt;
It is the rare, experienced, polished writer who can&lt;br /&gt;
write such content, review such content, and post&lt;br /&gt;
the finished product all in a day. Some may disagree,&lt;br /&gt;
but I remain convinced time and patience are necessary&lt;br /&gt;
ingredients in the very best content.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
When ready, read your content aloud. No sentence&lt;br /&gt;
should be more than one breath. If your sentences&lt;br /&gt;
are turgid and flow slowly, awkward, break them into&lt;br /&gt;
shorter lines, easier to read. Your tempo should be allegro, &lt;br /&gt;
not andante.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
6) Revise, revise, revise.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Having finished your first revisions, it is time for...&lt;br /&gt;
more revisions. As much time should be spent on&lt;br /&gt;
revising your content as writing it in the first place.&lt;br /&gt;
This, then, should be your schedule:&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Day 1, write the content. On this same day,&lt;br /&gt;
do the first revisions.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Day 2, after letting the content sit overnight,&lt;br /&gt;
awake early (personally I do this between 5-7 am&lt;br /&gt;
because that is when my schedule is clear and&lt;br /&gt;
I have the fewest interruptions. In other words, I&lt;br /&gt;
can focus.) Then do at least one more&amp;nbsp; content&lt;br /&gt;
revision.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
3) On Day 3, do a final content review. There&lt;br /&gt;
should be few, if any, changes at this point.&lt;br /&gt;
Your content should be word perfect, light,&lt;br /&gt;
graceful, moving; content that will impact the&lt;br /&gt;
reader, because it impacts you!&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
7) The Resource Box&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Now add the crucial Resource Box and About the &lt;br /&gt;
Author details. Having written content that helps&lt;br /&gt;
your reader and future customer, it is now manifestly&lt;br /&gt;
appropriate to include something that helps you...&lt;br /&gt;
and that is precisely what the Resource Box and&lt;br /&gt;
About the Author sections do. Treat them accordingly.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Be sure to include all the means you wish customers&lt;br /&gt;
to use to get in touch with you, including email, URL,&lt;br /&gt;
telephone, cell phone, etc. Believe me, the useful&lt;br /&gt;
content you have given them will inspire response.&lt;br /&gt;
Depend on it.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Exult. You deserve it!&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
You have now done a useful thing. Your content is&lt;br /&gt;
now available for use on blogs, ezines, site postings,&lt;br /&gt;
et al. Take a moment to congratulate yourself. You&lt;br /&gt;
deserve it.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
You have taken what you know and can do and&lt;br /&gt;
transformed it into a focused means of generating&lt;br /&gt;
new customers and really helping them. You may be a&lt;br /&gt;
tad fatigued by your effort; that&#39;s natural. But what&lt;br /&gt;
you&#39;ve written can live for years and help thousands.&lt;br /&gt;
And that&#39;s a true cause for jubilation.&lt;br /&gt;

The words come easily about a thoughtless incident&lt;br /&gt;
engineered by unthinking adolescents&lt;br /&gt;
appalling&lt;br /&gt;
egregious&lt;br /&gt;
selfish&lt;br /&gt;
stupid&lt;br /&gt;
malicious.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The facts have flashed around the world.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
A freshman at Rutgers University, Tyler Clementi, literally just&lt;br /&gt;
days into his first term, had an encounter with another&lt;br /&gt;
student, a male student.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
His peeping tom roommates, one male, one female,&lt;br /&gt;
had the bright idea of posting live feed of the tryst on&lt;br /&gt;
the net for the titillation and second-hand jollies of a world &lt;br /&gt;
that can&#39;t seem to get enough of the intrusive and lascivious,&lt;br /&gt;
no matter how invasive the source.&lt;br /&gt;
All this was bad enough, thoroughly, unequivocally&lt;br /&gt;
wrong.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
But worse was quick to come.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
A young man in a new, strange environment learning what&lt;br /&gt;
had been done, faced in his mind a future replete with embarrassing&lt;br /&gt;
confessions at home, taunts from bigoted classmates, &lt;br /&gt;
ridicule and recriminations for what was no more&lt;br /&gt;
than a private act of consensual love at a great&lt;br /&gt;
liberal institution.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Tyler, literally helpless, saw only one way to cope,&lt;br /&gt;
and so at the very dawn of adult life he took that life,&lt;br /&gt;
by leaping into eternity from the George Washington Bridge,&lt;br /&gt;
a premature statistic with stillborn potential.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Not the net but its misusers at fault&lt;br /&gt;
For those who dislike and mistrust the Internet, the&lt;br /&gt;
Clementi case has been a godsend. Now here is an&lt;br /&gt;
opportunity to lambast and to deprecate the Internet as&lt;br /&gt;
a hotbed of lying, prevarication, deception, malice&lt;br /&gt;
aforethought, and unfathomable immorality. These&lt;br /&gt;
vociferous folk say the Internet must be hobbled,&lt;br /&gt;
controlled, contained, regulated and eviscerated of&lt;br /&gt;
its almost satanic power for mayhem and evil.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
But such critics are wrong.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The Internet is neither good nor bad; it is only what&lt;br /&gt;
the minds of men have made it.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
As such we must look into ourselves to find &lt;br /&gt;
solutions to a problem that threatens to engulf and&lt;br /&gt;
destroy the great institution the Internet has become.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The solution starts with you, and it starts today&lt;br /&gt;
from your computer. Here is what must be done&lt;br /&gt;
by all of us, without a moment&#39;s delay, lest we tarry&lt;br /&gt;
too long and lose this race for the soul of the Internet.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
1) Never post anonymous comments about&lt;br /&gt;
anyone. If you have something to say, have the&lt;br /&gt;
courage of your convictions, not the dutch courage&lt;br /&gt;
of anonymity. Yes, anonymity has its benefits, but these &lt;br /&gt;
are dwarfed by the hurtful and malicious comments&lt;br /&gt;
which are bold only because unclaimed by their&lt;br /&gt;
perpetrators.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
2) Tell owners of sites publishing anonymous&lt;br /&gt;
comments that what they are doing is reprehensible,&lt;br /&gt;
dishonorable, cowardly and injudicious. One such comment &lt;br /&gt;
from just one person may cause a shrug from the site owners &lt;br /&gt;
and publishers. But one comment launches the forces of &lt;br /&gt;
outraged morality which have ignored, evaded, and winked too&lt;br /&gt;
long at these abuses.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
3) Boycott sites which publish and condone&lt;br /&gt;
the malice and pain of anonymous comments.&lt;br /&gt;
Boycott advertisers on such sites. And tell them you&lt;br /&gt;
are doing so. Money talks, especially when it walks.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
4) Use the majesty of fair play to rout those who&lt;br /&gt;
present and sustain the dedicated, premeditated&lt;br /&gt;
evil of anonymous commentary. Post a comment&lt;br /&gt;
whenever you see anonymity used for destruction.&lt;br /&gt;
Remind readers that the one attacked has not&lt;br /&gt;
been asked for rebuttal and fair response.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
5) Be honest in describing acts of anonymous&lt;br /&gt;
commentary, films, video, etc which set out to&lt;br /&gt;
hurt and malign. These are not &quot;pranks&quot; (as&lt;br /&gt;
the Rudgers perpetrators claim); they are &lt;br /&gt;
deliberate acts of hate, violence, and vicious&lt;br /&gt;
destruction and must be regarded and dealt&lt;br /&gt;
with accordingly.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
6) Don&#39;t regard the publication and posting of&lt;br /&gt;
intimate personal business as anything other&lt;br /&gt;
than a clear violation of an individual&#39;s essential&lt;br /&gt;
right to privacy. You must be quite clear on this!&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
7) Assume that the people publishing anonymous&lt;br /&gt;
comments have an axe to grind, a personal motive&lt;br /&gt;
behind their remarks, an arriere pensee They wish&lt;br /&gt;
to be perceived as delivering the truth, while in&lt;br /&gt;
reality cloaking their own objectives behind the&lt;br /&gt;
shield of anonymity. This allows them to lie, cloak,&lt;br /&gt;
run, hide, deceive and avoid any responsibility&lt;br /&gt;
whatsoever while the gullible and credulous are manipulated.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
8) See if the site publishing the hurtful anonymous&lt;br /&gt;
commentary has a listed owner, address, phone,&lt;br /&gt;
e-mail etc.; someone in a responsible position who&lt;br /&gt;
can remove comments clearly designed to&lt;br /&gt;
agitate, calumniate, and besmirch -- or is the&lt;br /&gt;
site impervious and inhospitable to the need for&lt;br /&gt;
accuracy and fairness.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Above all, recognize this: all that must happen for evil&lt;br /&gt;
to prevail is for men of good will and progressive&lt;br /&gt;
outlook to do nothing. The time is here for these good people,&lt;br /&gt;
including you, to use your powers for goodness,&lt;br /&gt;
before a handful of malicious, hateful, mean-&lt;br /&gt;
spirited people of unrelenting negativity and disguised&lt;br /&gt;
motive cause the Internet to stumble and fall,&lt;br /&gt;
brought down by a bacillus which can and must be&lt;br /&gt;
eradicated now.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
This all comes too late of course for Tyler Clementi, young,&lt;br /&gt;
confused, who died alone and who might have left no footprint&lt;br /&gt;
here at all. But this lad gone too soon is instead a source &lt;br /&gt;
for cosmic change of the utmost importance&lt;br /&gt;
to the myriad activities and communications of mankind&lt;br /&gt;
universal on the Information Highway. His death, tragic as it&lt;br /&gt;
is, does have meaning for he has helped cleanse the&lt;br /&gt;
Internet of a great evil. Sleep well, young Tyler for we shall not&lt;br /&gt;
forget you, victim of malice, inspiration for reform. You have&lt;br /&gt;
done your work and it is good. &lt;br /&gt;

whose quiet dedication  and, yes, devotion are keeping&lt;br /&gt;
you in business. These are the people  who&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
* don&#39;t complain&lt;br /&gt;
* are present for work on time&lt;br /&gt;
* gladly help  out as necessary&lt;br /&gt;
* are selfless and always focused on the good of  the&lt;br /&gt;
business and its employees.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Every business has such  people.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Every business relies on them.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Unfortunately, these  fortunate businesses often&lt;br /&gt;
take such jewels for granted. That will never  do.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
1) Identify the &quot;unsung heroes&quot; of your company.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The better  you know your employees, the easier&lt;br /&gt;
selecting your &quot;unsung heroes&quot; will be.  When you&lt;br /&gt;
come to think about it, you&#39;ll know right away who&lt;br /&gt;
has done much  for you and is deserving of special&lt;br /&gt;
recognition.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
2) Have a classy  recognition event.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Bringing in a couple of pizzas and saying some&lt;br /&gt;
nice  words about the employee/s in question may&lt;br /&gt;
be ok for ordinary &quot;thanks&quot;, but  when an &quot;unsung hero&quot; is&lt;br /&gt;
being celebrated that is most assuredly not good  enough.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
3) Say it with silver&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
For hundreds of years, important  occasions have been&lt;br /&gt;
celebrated by the presentation of silver objects.  Why?&lt;br /&gt;
Because silver represents value, permanence, and&lt;br /&gt;
something splendid  to show family and friends.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Such objects must ALWAYS be sterling (not  plate) and&lt;br /&gt;
must ALWAYS feature a celebratory inscription:&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&quot;For (name)  for exemplary service since (date).&lt;br /&gt;
From your friends and colleagues at (name  of company.)&lt;br /&gt;
(date of presentation.)&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
4) Include a  check&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Whenever possible, you should also present your &quot;unsung  hero&quot;&lt;br /&gt;
with a check for at least $1000. Remember, you are recognizing&lt;br /&gt;
one  of the keys to your success. Reward this valuable  person&lt;br /&gt;
accordingly.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
5) Hold a recognition event&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Remember, for  the person you are honoring, whatever you&lt;br /&gt;
do will quite probably be unique in  her life. Thus, if you do&lt;br /&gt;
the thing, do the thing right. This means holding  some kind of&lt;br /&gt;
recognition event. In our busy times, luncheons are  recommended.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Have it at a local restaurant with a function room. Make  sure to&lt;br /&gt;
get your hero&#39;s name on the facility&#39;s calendar of events .&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
6)  Invite your hero&#39;s family and friends&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Again, remember that this event  will quite probably be&lt;br /&gt;
unique in your hero&#39;s life. Thus, make it a point to  invite&lt;br /&gt;
family and friends to attend. Let them see in what regard&lt;br /&gt;
you hold  the honoree.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
7) Get the day declared in her honor&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Every public  official from the President of the United&lt;br /&gt;
States down has the ability to help  you recognize your&lt;br /&gt;
&quot;unsung hero.&quot; How?&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
At least 30 days before the  event send a letter to&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
* the governor of your state, or&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
* the  mayor of your town, or&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
* your state representative or state  senator.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
All of them have resplendent certificates readily  available&lt;br /&gt;
into which they can insert wording provided by you.&lt;br /&gt;
If you ask  them to attend your event to present the&lt;br /&gt;
certificate themselves, they may  well do so! This&lt;br /&gt;
provides an extra level of importance.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Note: if the  service of your &quot;unsung hero&quot; has been&lt;br /&gt;
particularly noteworthy, do not  hesitate to write the&lt;br /&gt;
president. You may well get a telegram or letter or,  even,&lt;br /&gt;
(it happens) a phone call from the president himself...&lt;br /&gt;
and that  would surely make your event notable!&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
8) Take lots of pictures. Post them  on your website.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
This is the moment for all shutterbugs. The  more&lt;br /&gt;
pictures you take, the better. Post them prominently on&lt;br /&gt;
your  website.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
9) Deliver heartfelt, gracious, sincere remarks.&lt;br /&gt;
Don&#39;t stint  on the compliments.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Talk from the heart about this person and what  she&lt;br /&gt;
has done. Remember, she has been one of the reasons&lt;br /&gt;
for your success.  Now is the moment to say so with&lt;br /&gt;
grace, felicity and warmth. Be sure to  record your&lt;br /&gt;
words and give these, too, to your star.)&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;div&gt;The question is: why are so many people all over the&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;world perverting the Internet by posting deliberately&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;erroneous, always hurtful, and completely false &quot;information&quot;?&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;div&gt;Maladjusted kids with too much time and Internet savvy&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;div&gt;Did you ever make a prank telephone call when you were&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;in grammar school? I did... and I suspect most of you did too.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Now, however, the pranks are not directed at one person,&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;but at millions. And the Internet is so configured that one&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;maladjusted kid sitting in his basement in Kalamazoo can&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;(within minutes) prank the whole world. To pimple-faced&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Johnny who&#39;s a wash-out with the chicks, this is a thrill that&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;just won&#39;t quit. Unfortunately, the viruses he invents and&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;disseminates, the misinformation he circulates are very&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;real and cause, as he wanted, maximum dislocation and&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;harm. He&#39;s the man!&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;div&gt;With malice towards all and charity towards none (pace&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Abe Lincoln)&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;div&gt;We live in the era of the empowered haters where daily&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;people as psychotic as Hitler and as malevolent as Stalin take&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;center stage. These people are hooligans on speed.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Shunned themselves, they are determined that the&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;successful of the world shall answer to them....or else.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;In the &quot;real&quot; world, such creatures have limited influence&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;even if they turn into uni bombers, stalkers, and those who&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;(with cunning and skill) reduce their own pain by inflicting it&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;on the great of the land... or merely on an unfortunate soul who&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Now the&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;socially inept and clinically dangerous have scope for their&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;inadequacies.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;div&gt;For such people the Internet is a dream come true....&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;because now, without leaving their homes, they can&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;hurt, really hurt, brutally hurt people who have neither&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;heard of them... nor offered so much as an offending&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;word. The empowered hooligan doesn&#39;t care... to hurt&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;is his objective and if he determines to hurt... he has no&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;need whatsoever to justify the heinous act. He hurts, therefore&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;he is.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;

Chastised by your boss in front of your colleagues&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;(never mind that he was right). Got blown off by the waitress&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;you made a pass at? You want pay-back, and you want it&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;NOW!&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;div&gt;Voila! The Internet&#39;s at hand. Post! Publish! Hurt them...&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;feel vindicated, powerful, happy. Such commentary, posted&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;by the vengeful daily, floods the Internet. These comments are&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;invariably abusive, misspelled...and anonymous. You want&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;to hurt the boss all right... you want to show that girl to be&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;sure... but hold the name with the mayo. Cut them down to&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;size... but never,ever tell them who you actually are. Hurt and&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;hide, the coward&#39;s formula through history.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;div&gt;&quot;Expose&quot; your competitors by riding in on your white&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;horse&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;div&gt;This is a biggie. In business? Got successful competitors?&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;In a hurry for success? Then use the Internet to besmirch&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;your competitors. Make up &quot;confidential&quot; information about&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;them. Pose as the readers&#39; friend... let them in on the &quot;secret&quot;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;about your competition. What matter that every word you&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;post is made up.... when YOU can benefit from the lie. Paint with&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;broad strokes: use innuendo, suggestion, go for the big lie.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Poor as you are, hiding behind email and anonymity, you&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;have license to prevaricate.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;div&gt;This format is used regularly by people in a hurry, by&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;the corner cutters, the self-appointed &quot;truth tellers&quot;,&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;and by people with an axe to grind. They know that&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;online they can not only appear to be virtuous but&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;ride to the top of the search engines on the coat tails&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;of their well-known competitors. Such messages are a magnet&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;for the gullible and the credulous, for people whose &quot;business&quot; is to&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;manipulate the lazy and uniformed from whom they conjure money&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;without compunction -- and then disappear, the privilege of&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;the harlot throughout the ages.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;div&gt;Bait and switch&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;div&gt;Back in the good old days of mail order there was a famous&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;ad that ran&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;div&gt;SEX&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;div&gt;Now that I&#39;ve got your attention, let me tell you&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;about our terrific air conditioners.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;div&gt;A variety of this ad is launched daily on the net&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;which is why ads like the one with Hillary Clinton above&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;are created. Sex, as every marketer knows, sells. And&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;the more licentious and lubricious the better, no matter&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;than the message is false from start to end.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;div&gt;Reader Beware!&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;div&gt;Today you will be the recipient of online lies, smut, and&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;vulgarity. That is why today you must be chary and cautious&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;about what you choose to believe and the judgements you&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;make.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;div&gt;* Ask yourself whether what you are reading is likely.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;If the claim is outrageous and exaggerated, it is unlikely&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;to be true.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;div&gt;* Is the claim signed? Is someone willing to take&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;responsibility? If not, it is hearsay and rumor in which&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;case who is benefiting from it?&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;div&gt;* Has the person attacked been given the chance to&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;respond... or is the claim advanced by one person who&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;attacks... but will not let his victim respond? Fairness is&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;never in the repertoire of the irresponsible.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;div&gt;* Is there a clear beneficiary for what is being written?&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Is this person assailing because they will benefit thereby?&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Below the surface of seeming honesty, there is always&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;avarice.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;div&gt;* If the claim is attributed, does that person have anything&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;to lose? Established persons and institutions are responsible&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;at least in part because they have much to lose by being&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;irresponsible. Those with nothing to lose can make&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;the most irresponsible claims with impunity... and so they do.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;That they do is a sure sign of their insignificance and&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;unaccountability.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;div&gt;Consider the source&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;div&gt;When I was growing up in Illinois in the &#39;forties, my&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;father had an expression: &quot;Consider the source.&quot; When&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;some comment or rumor reached us, he&#39;d say these&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;words. I now think of them often as I, like you, receive&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;the filth and lies deliberately disseminated by those who&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;may be Internent savvy but are bankrupt in all other ways.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;My advice to you is to ignore, beware, and in all cases&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;consider who is benefiting from the lies, misrepresentations,&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;and fabrications before us. When they cannot touch us,&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;the perpetrators y shrivel and die, fulminating still but powerless&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;and pathetic.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
