Durella get signed to DB records

D'banj's quest for dominance in the Nigerian
music scene won't stop now; he might have
lost out on signing Olamide and Davido – but
he has nicked another artiste, this time a
familiar friend-foe.
The self-proclaimed 'African Michael Jacskon',
we've learnt has signed his friend-turned-foe-
turned-friend Oluwadamilare Okulaja better known
to the public as Durella.
The move might however not come as a surprise to
everyone, considering that Banger Lee (that's
D'banj's new nickname by the way) and the 'King
of the Zanga' Durella recently settled their
differences. Some weeks back, D'banj and his DB
Records crew released a single 'Ibadi e' off their
compilation album (D' King's Men) which
featured a verse from Durella.
Fans were very excited to see the pair had reunited
after a very long and well publicized fall out
between the pop acts.
FLASHBACK
The beef between Durella and D'banj started in
late 2006 when the latter accused Banger Lee of
jacking his style of singing. Apparently when
D'banj and Don Jazzy returned to Nigeria in 2004,
they met up with Durella and soon became friends.
Sources tell us that D'banj and Durella were quite
close and were spotted together in the studio
several times.
'I remember when Durella followed D'banj, Don
Jazzy to Jahborne's music factory studio when
D'banj wanted to record 'Tongolo' remix', a source
recounts.
Of course D'banj had blown up and had released
his second album 'Rundown' in 2007 when Durella
signed with TC Records and finally launched his
career. It didn't take long for Durella to blow up too
with hits like 'In da Zanga', 'Wiskolowiska' and
'Shayo' gaining massive appeal. He also won the
MTV and Zain 'Advance Warning' reality show in
2008.
Then came the interviews; Durella clearly stated
that D'banj had stolen his style. The media of
course jumped on it, comparing both artistes.
Truthfully, they did sound very similar. And it
seemed like D'banj was aware as he switched up
the flow on the 2008 Nigerian Pop classic album
'The Entertainer'. Their fight sort of fizzled out
though as Durella later backed off. 'D'banj is my
man, aaah, I like his mo gbono feli feli jam', Durella
told Onome ' BigTyme' Oyaide in an interview on
urban radio station Rhythm FM 93.7 in late 2008.
BACK TO THE MATTER
We are told that D'banj and DB Records bought out
Durella's contract from his present record
label IKONIC Music where the Pop act's career has
been in limbo since he signed in mid-2011 after
ending his three-year contract with TC Records. His
upcoming album ' Back/Better/Bada' has been
pushed back one too many times
'Durella has signed with D'banj, he (D'banj) bought
out the contract, that's what I can tell you', a
source in Durella's camp tells us.
A rep for D'banj refused to respond to enquiries
after asking us to send text messages to her
mobile phone.

Rapper Naeto C quits Storm Records

In the last 15 months, the Nigerian
entertainment scene has witnessed more
label shakedowns than we could have ever
imagined. And the breakup season isn't over
yet…
Rapper Naetochukwu Chikwe better known as
Naeto C has ended his relationship with Storm
Records, the music home where he launched his
career into the Nigerian music market.
NET investigations have revealed that the rapper
plans to fully launch his WKG/Cerious Music label
in a matter of months.
Unlike the many breakups that have preceded
Naeto's, the rapper's exit is not battlemented; both
parties have been very silent about the issue. As a
matter of fact, Storm Records insist that the rapper
is still signed with them.
One of the label's directors Tola Odunsi admits
that Naeto has had his own record label Cerious
Music for a while but is still with Storm.
'Naeto has had his record label for a while at least
3 years it's called Cerious Music – his music is
being pushed as a joint venture btw storm 360 and
Cerious Music. Nothing has changed', Odunsi
responded to our enquiry via E-mail.
Naeto C's profile is still active on the Storm
Records official website but then again, we can't
take that seriously as General Pype (an artiste
who has since parted ways with the label) also has
his profile on the website.
An inside source however says Naeto has indeed
left and his upcoming project will not be released
under the Storm Records imprint. One insider said:
'It is true Naeto started Cerious Music a few years
back but the launch of his new outfit WKG
(meaning White Kaftan Gang) will see him act fully
as an independent artiste.'
WKG kicked off in the middle of 2012 with the
launch of his 'Tony Montana (Bad pass)' video
featuring D'banj. We are told he also plans to sign
Lagos producer E-Kelly.
Storm Records was also not listed as one of the
organizers of his first ever solo US tour which ran
from late March to early May 2013.
Naeto who remains silent on the issue (he refused
to reply our E-mail messages) has been busy
though: he welcomed his first child while on tour in
the US and returned to Nigeria to seal a deal with
telecoms company Globacom as an ambassador.
Popular artiste manager Godwin Tom also says
Naeto is his new client.
Naeto joined Storm Records in 2006, returning
from the US where he had already formed a rap
group with close friend Ikechukwu and his
younger brother Uzikwendu called 'World
Famous Akademy'. With the smash hit single
'Kini big deal', he released his debut album 'You
Know my P' in 2008; parted ways with Ikechukwu
who left Strorm in 2010 and then released a
successful second album ' Super C Season' in
February 2011.
Storm Records headed by Obi Asika and Olisa
Adibua (the pair are currently in a legal battle)
have in the past signed an impressive long list of
acts including Jazzman Olofin, Darey, GT the
Guitarman, 2shotz, General Pype. They
currently have on their roaster rappers Sasha,
Yung6ix, Pop singer Ms Jaie, Urban-Pop group
L.O.S and gospel singer Tosin Martins.

Dbanj plans big for his birthday and DKM concert

show is the most anticipated event that month.
The five-star concert, featuring live appearances

The MOBO and BET award winner says he's
throwing a big, spectacular gig, at Eko Hotel in
Lagos, to launch the debut DKM album, and
celebrate his recent achievements with friends and
fans in Nigeria.
The hugely anticipated concert will coincide with

weekend, that fans can expect to catch electrifying
performances from him and his friends, including

'It'll be my first time in Nigeria and I can't

The June 23rd concert, D'Banj says, will be the first
in a series of DKM Concerts to be staged in
collaboration with Ndani TV in Lagos and other
parts.

Eminem sues Facebook over copyright

Eminem's song publisher is suing Facebook and an
ad agency, saying they copied music from one of
the rapper's songs.
Eight Mile Style filed a federal lawsuit in Detroit on
Monday alleging that a 30-second Facebook ad
broadcast online last month copied music from
Eminem's 2000 song "Under the Influence."
The Detroit Free Press ( ) reports that the ad was
featured in a webcast by Facebook founder Mark
Zuckerberg to announce Facebook Home, an
interface for Android phones.
The complaint says Portland, Ore., ad agency
Wieden+Kennedy copied Eminem's music "in an
effort to curry favor" with Facebook by catering to
Zuckerberg's personal likes and to "invoke the
same irreverent theme" of the song.
Facebook spokesman Andrew Noyes declined
comment. A message seeking comment was left
Tuesday with the ad agency.

rolling around the Nigerian cyberspace, and the
female character in the movie is alleged to be Moet
Abebe, the Sound City VJ.
The source of the story can be traced to celebrity
journalist, Abiola Aloba of Maestro Media who set
the rumour on its road with his claim that he had
seen the full s*x clip, and then went ahead to give
insightful hints about the 'sexticipants'. According
to his mystery clue, the female party is a 'popular
hostess on a cable network, hosting a musical
show, who always holds her audience spellbound
by her delivery'.
He went a step further, taking pains to describing
her physical features; '…Not too tall, very shapely
with big eye balls, she looks like an angel', her
name, '…she sounds like 'champagne', we are not
talking 'Brut or Rose' and even her family ties, '…
and seems connected to the family of a former
ruler, at least by her second name'.
Even if we are a bit slow, and have signed up for

An aspiring model, armed with a killer look, and an

learn that she is currently enjoys a lovey-dovey

super-fond of, displaying his pictures on Instagram
with the tag, 'my boo'. But she has over time been
linked with a plethora of entertainers including Don

According to NET, A source close to the VJ confirms

Gunmen kill Petrol Station General Manager in Maiduguri

yesterday shot dead by gunmen suspected to be
Boko Haram members.
According to news reports, the gunmen supposedly
laid ambush on the deceased in Ajilari/Railway
crossing ward of Maiduguri metropolis and shot
him dead as he headed for his house after
performing the Magrib prayers at a nearby Mosque
some minutes to 7pm.
A resident of the area said that the gunmen after
killing the General Manager, fled the scene
unhindered.
He said, "I was about entering my house when I
saw three people in a Keke Napep (tricycle) riding
towards the house of the General Manager, and
before I know it, I heard gunshots, which led to
many people around the area running helter
scelter for their safety, I quickly entered my house,
and because of the curfew imposed on the state
capital as well as the emergency rule, we had to
remain indoors, until this morning 8am that we
saw his corpse still lying without being attended
to". He narrated.

Research says Tobacco Smoking leads to low sperm count

Dr Joseph Natsah of General Hospital Kachia in
Kaduna State, has advised youths against tobacco
smoking, saying it leads to impotence.
Natsah said in an interview on Tuesday in Kaduna
that tobacco smoking results in low spêrm count,
weak erêction and impotence.He warned girls
involved in smoking to desist from the habit as it
would also prevent them from either conceiving or
having still birth.
Natsah said tobacco smoke generally has adverse
effect on every organ of the body, including the
immune system.
The medical practitioner listed some of the
conditions generated by smoking to include coronary
and heart disease, as well as breathlessness and
influenza,He also said that smoking causes cancer,
such as leukaemia, cancer of the bladder, throat and
stomach.
Also, a laboratory technician, Miss Mercy Onu said
smoking was contributing to higher percentage of
deformed spêrms and impotency.She also said it
contributed to "painful ulcers along the digestive
tract and build up fatty deposit on the artery walls",
thereby leading to low blood flow and heart attack.
A police sergeant, Dalhatu Konkiyel, who said he was
a "retired chronic smoker", said that he experienced
various health challenges while smoking.Some of the
challenges, he said, were poor vision, high blood
pressure, common cold , tooth decay, gum disease,
sleeping and blood circulation problems.
He advised the youths not to indulge in the habit, to
avoid early death and psychological trauma. Konkiyel
called on the Federal Government to ban the
manufacture, distribution, sale and smoking of
tobacco in the country.

65 fleeing Boko Haram members arrested in Borno

The military on Saturday imposed a 24-hour
curfew in parts of a northeastern city as it pressed on
with a campaign against Boko Haram Islamists that
has sent residents fleeing the region.
Locals in a remote insurgent stronghold near the
border with Cameroon have begun fleeing their
homes after military fighter jets and helicopters
carried out air strikes on Islamist camps.
Nigeria launched the sweeping operation against
Boko Haram this week, deploying several thousand
troops across three states where President Goodluck
Jonathan declared a state of emergency after the
Islamists seized territory and chased out the
government.
The group, which has said it is fighting to create an
Islamic Nigeria's mainly Muslim north, has carried
outscores of attacks in recent years, and has become
emboldened and better armed in recent months.
The military said dozens of insurgents have been
killed in the offensive targeting all three states put
under emergency decree, including Adamawa and
Yobe, but Boko Haram's traditional base of Borno is
expected to see the most bloodshed.
Borno state military spokesman Lieutenant Colonel
Sagir Musa in a statement listed 12 neighbourhoods
in the city of Maiduguri where a "24-hour curfew"
was being imposed.
In a separate release, the military said it had arrested
65 suspected Boko Haram members who were trying
toenter Maiduguri after fleeing aerial bombardments
elsewhere.
In the Marte district of Borno,some residents were
fleeing east towards a town on the Cameroon border,
42 kilometres away (26 miles).
"It has been scary in the pastthree days," said Buba
Yawuri, whose home is in the town of Kwalaram in
Marte but who has fled to the border town Gomboru
Ngala.
"Fighter jets and helicopters kept hovering in the sky
and we kept hearing huge explosions from afar," he
told AFP.
He said that as the air assaults began, the security
forces told all residents to stay indoors, cutting off
his family's access to food and water.
"I couldn't hold on any longer. I took the bush
path"and reached Gomboru Ngala early Saturday, he
said.
Shafi'u Breima, a resident of Gomboru Ngala, told
AFP thatthe border town is receiving a continuous
flow of people arriving from Marte and neighbouring
areas.
The phone network in Borno state has all but
collapsed since the emergency measures were
imposed but residents in Gomboru Ngala use phone
services from Cameroon and have been sporadically
reachable.
The remote, thinly populated region has porous
borders where criminal groups and weapons have
flowed freely for years.
The military has sealed previously unguarded
crossings to block Boko Haram fighters from fleeing
during the offensive.
The military campaign could prove to be the biggest
ever against Boko Haram and is believed to be the
first time Nigeria has carried out air strikes within its
own territory in more than 25 years.
Aerial support was believed to have been used
against rioters in the north in the early 1980s.
Many have warned that there is a risk of high civilian
deaths and Nigeria's military has been accused of
massive rights violations in the past, including
indiscriminate attacks on civilians.
US Secretary of State John Kerry said Friday that he
was "deeply concerned about thefighting in
northeastern Nigeria" and urged the security forces
to "apply disciplined use of force in all operations."
There are also doubts as to whether the insurgency
can be crushed by force, amid concern that the
militants will scatter and re-emerge when the
offensive eases.
Nigeria has been urged by various camps to tackle
the root social causes of the conflict, including acute
poverty and excessive government corruption which
has helped radicalise many young Muslims in the
north.
The conflict is estimated to have cost 3,600 lives
since 2009, including killings by the security forces

SOE: Boko Haram Militant Flees to Gombe and Bauchi States

Following the declaration of a state of emergency in
Yobe, Borno and Adamawa states, some members of
the fundamentalist Boko Haram sect have started
fleeing to neighbouring Gombe, Bauchi and Jigawa
states, SUNDAY PUNCH authoritatively reports.
On Thursday, members of the sect attacked two
police stations and four banks in Daura, Katsina
State.
It was the first time the sect was carrying out attacks
in Katsina.
President Goodluck Jonathan placed the three states
under emergency rule following unabated bloodbath
and bomb attacks which have left hundreds of people
and security officials dead.
Security sources confided in our correspondents on
Friday that following the increased pressure by the
military, some of the insurgents have started
sneaking out of the states.
A top military official who pleaded anonymity
because he was not authorised to speak on the
matter said, "All the states are under intense military
surveillance and we are ensuring that no one sneaks
out but the insurgents have some secret routes
which we are going to block. They will use these
secret routes to sneak out because of the heat on
them. Ordinarily, they will want to protect their
wives, children and the weak among them."
One of the soldiers deployed in Maiduguri, the Borno
State capital, also told one of our correspondents that
some of the insurgents are fleeing the state to
neighbouring ones.
The solider who pleaded anonymity because of the
sensitivity of the matter said, "We have reports that
they are running away to neigbouring states and
even neighbouring countries. We are doing our best
to ensure that all escape routes are blocked."
According to the soldier, several residents of
Gamboru, Ngala, and Marte, where the sect hoisted
its flags are fleeing the area because of heavy
military operation.
A security expert and former State Security Service
director, Mr. Mike Ejiojor, told SUNDAY PUNCH that it
was possible that members of the Boko Haram sect
would attempt to escape to states near Borno, Yobe
and Adamawa.
"Preventing them from migrating to neighbouring
states is the essence of the state of emergency in the
three affected states. We hope that it won't be easy
for them to migrate to other states especially if they
have cells there," he said.
Another security expert, Dr. Ona Ekhomu, told one of
our correspondents that there was a possibility that
members of the sect that had fled the states, could
regroup to launch massive attacks on the states
under emergency rule.
Ekhomu, who is the President, Association of
Industrial Security and Safety Operators of Nigeria,
said such a development could lead to having more
states on the list of those under emergency rule.
He said, "They will continue to launch attacks, it is
not without doubt. Don't forget that apart from the
affected states, other states have some Boko Haram
presence, so they may regroup. The military must
ensure that they don't escape from the states.
"The military should use a lot of tactics to freeze the
bad guys (Boko Haram). The essence of conducting
the military operation in the North-East is to flush out
or capture the Boko Haram elements. If they get
away, then the purpose of the exercise is defeated."
He added that members of the sect might wear
military uniforms to disguise as they were becoming
more adaptive. According to him, it would become
difficult to differentiate between a genuine military
officer and a Boko Haram member in military
uniform.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Immigration Service has
deported 31,822 illegal immigrants from the country
in the first five months of the year.
The Public Relations Officer of NIS, Mr. Ekpedeme
King, told SUNDAY PUNCH, that the figure
represented the total number of immigrants arrested
without proper documentation in different parts of
the country.
"According to our records, from January this year to
the first week of May, the Nigerian Immigration
Service arrested and repatriated 31,822 illegal
immigrants. I know there is the temptation to link
the number to the security situation in the country
and the Boko Haram insurgency. But this is the total
number of illegal immigrants we have repatriated so
far this year, as part of our duties to ensure that
every foreigner in the country has adequate
documentation," he said.
Findings showed that most of the deportees were
nationals of Niger, Mali and Cameroun, while a small
number from other West African countries like Ghana
and Benin Republic.
Minister of Interior, Mr. Abba Moro, who confirmed
this development, said the illegal aliens came into
the country through the many porous border inlets,
adding that to fight terrorism in the country, it was
necessary to "throw them out."
Moro explained that the deportation was part of the
measures adopted by government to check the
incursion of strangers into the nation and to further
contain the security threat posed by Boko Haram.
According to him, it will cost about N500m to provide
the manpower and gadgets needed at the borders.
He said, "Manning our international borders
effectively to check illegal entry of persons is almost
impossible in the nation today. We have to admit the
fact that we don't have enough manpower and
equipment to have real control of the situation.
"And I admit to you that prior to the present situation
we face, it used to be worse. We used to take so
many things for granted until we came to the point of
this daring and dire security challenge.
"Part of the measures to succeed in the task had led
us to getting into partnership with the American
government to procure advanced surveillance
equipment for better border security. The illegal
immigrants were sent out of the country by the
appropriate authorities under the ministry."
In a related development, Amnesty International has
called on security forces to adhere to international
human rights standards and the rule of law.
It said it would continue to document human rights
abuses by the security forces and Boko Haram, and
the dire situation of the people trapped in the
middle.
It stated, "We will continue to call on the Nigeria
government to take action to protect the population.
Nigeria must adopt measures that prevent,
investigate and prosecute attacks by Boko Haram,
while fully respecting and ensuring human rights in
accordance with Nigeria's international obligations
and commitments. The population will not be truly
secure until everyone in Nigeria can be confident not
only that the risk of attacks from Boko Haram has
been reduced, but also that they will not face human
rights violations at the hands of the very state
security forces mandated with their protection.
"Unfortunately, at the moment in Nigeria we have a
situation where the military are behaving like they
are above the law – like they don't have to respect
the rule of law. So, in some respects, the issue is not
so much which law the military are operating under,
although it is vitally important that the law complies
with international human rights law and standards."

Military Force will not stop Boko Haram - Arewa Consultative Forum says

The National Publicity Secretary of the apex socio-
political group of the North, Arewa Consultative
Forum, Anthony Sani, tells LEKE BAIYEWU, why the
region rejects the state of emergency declared by the
President
Why does the ACF think the state of emergency in
the northern states might not work?
The state of emergency might not work because of
our past experiences when state of emergency was
applied in Plateau State, and later in some local
government areas in the North-East that never
worked.
Moreover, what happened in Baga was actually the
use of force, which did not go down well with many
Nigerians and the international community because
they thought excessive use of force tends to inspire
more extremism than solve the problems of
insurgency. ACF thinks that since state of emergency
amounts to mere increase in the use of force, it may
not work concurrently with dialogue. The forum
prefers that the committee in place be given a
chance by both governments and Nigerians.
But many believe military intervention is the best
solution to the recurrent terrorists' attacks in those
areas?
Those who believe military option can work are too
quick to forget the fact that military was used in
2009 and 700 members including the leader of the
sect were killed. Yet, the sect has remained unbowed.
They also forget the experiences of Baga and the
controversy that has come with it. But since the
government, which has more facts than those of us
in the ring side, believes the fight against terrorism
is multidimensional and has gone ahead to declare
state of emergency amid dialogue, I think Nigerians
have no choice but to support government's efforts
to succeed in both the state of emergency and the
dialogue that now exist side by side. This is more so,
if it is true that the sect has overrun some local
government areas in those states, thereby making
the situation a conventional conflict with the state.
This may be easier to confront formally by the
authority.
Do you see abuse of human rights by military
personnel during their operations in the states?
There are rules of engagements for all military
interventions across the globe. Nigeria cannot be an
exception to the rules of the game, considering the
recent outcry against the manner force was applied
in Baga. I believe the military is too intelligent not to
know the negative effects of operating outside the
rules of the game.
Do you think military involvement in national
assignments such as elections and security is a
threat to Nigerian democracy?
Military involvement in national assignments does
not promote democratic culture and attitudes. But
what do you want them to do in situations where
democratic institutions are overwhelmed? If
Nigerians do not want military in national

Angelina Jolie undergoes Double Mastectomy

Actress Angelina Jolie revealed in a New York
Times op-ed on Tuesday that she quietly
underwent a preventive double mastectomy
after discovering she carried the BRCA1 gene,
which sharply increases a woman's risk of
developing breast cancer and ovarian cancer.
"My chances of developing breast cancer
have dropped from 87% to under 5%," Jolie
writes. "I can tell my children that they don't
need to fear they will lose me to breast
cancer."
She says she feels "empowered that I made a
strong choice that in no way diminishes my
femininity."
Jolie salutes her partner, Brad Pitt, who she
says was with her during her surgeries at the
Pink Lotus Breast Center.
"I am fortunate to have a partner, Brad Pitt,
who is so loving and supportive," Jolie writes.
"So to anyone who has a wife or girlfriend
going through this, know that you are a very
important part of the transition."
Jolie says she decided to share the story of
her surgeries in the hopes that it will benefit
other women at risk. She encourages women
to be proactive about their health if they have
a family history of breast or ovarian cancer,
while acknowledging the cost of gene testing
in the U.S. remains an obstacle for many.
"I choose not to keep my story private
because there are many women who do not
know that they might be living under the
shadow of cancer," Jolie writes.
Jolie's mother, Marcheline Bertrand, died at

Shocking!! ATM Dispenses Fake N1,000 Bank Notes

THERE is a disturbing development in the
banking industry as some banks' Automated
Teller Machines (ATMs) now dispense
counterfeit currencies, particularly the N1000
notes, which is the highest denomination in
the country.
A drama played out last week in Lagos when
a customer who withdrew money from an old
generation bank went to another bank few
metres away to deposit part of the money in
another bank, but was shocked when the
cashier told him that some of the N1000
notes were fake. Efforts to explain the source
of the money were rebuffed. The cashier and
customers in that bank confirmed that the
development was not strange but was now
becoming rampant.
Another victim who withdrew some amount of
money from an ATM in Ibadan was stunned
when he was told by a cashier in his office, in
an attempt to make some deposit, that two of
the one thousand naira notes were fake.
Efforts by Nigerian Tribune to get response
from the affected banks proved abortive as
they claimed ignorance.
Different opinions have been expressed on
this disturbing situation. An ex-banker, Paul
Ejodamen told Nigerian Tribune that, there is
human factor in the whole arrangement,
urging banks to put measures in place to
stem the trend.
A head of corporate affairs in one of the
banks who pleaded anonymity, did not rule
out the handiwork of people he described as
'bad elements' in the system.
According to him, there is need for the banks
to take extra vigilance on those uploading
money into the ATMs and double-check
bundle of currency notes being put in the
vaults by the Tellers.

BlackBerry Smartphone may be banned in Nigeria!!!

Blackberry services could be at risk of being
banned in the country as a new regulation by
the Nigerian Communications Commission,
NCC, will run counter to the technical
operating standards of the phone's distinct
network.
National Mirror exclusively gathered
yesterday that the telecoms regulator was
working on a regulation, which would make it
mandatory for any licensee in the nation's
telecoms market to provide access to its
communications facilities for necessary
interception by the law enforcement agencies.
To be called 'Lawful interception of
communications regulations", the regulation,
which is currently at the draft stage, is based
on the need to provide a legal and regulatory
framework for the lawful interception of
communications in Nigeria and the collection
and disclosure of intercepted communication.
It will also specify the nature and types of
communications to be intercepted; prescribe
penalties for noncompliance with the
regulations; provide a notification to the
commission of all warrants issued, amended,
renewed or cancelled under the regulations as
well as ensure the privacy of subscribers as
contained in the Nigerian constitution. It was
gathered that Section 13 of the regulation
Protected or Encrypted Communications will
run counter to the technical operations of
Blackberry.
By their designs and unlike other mobile
devices, Blackberry messages are encrypted
and where criminal investigation is required,
the law enforcement agents will face denial of
access to Blackberry network.
Specifically, Section 13 of the regulation
empowers the National Security Adviser, NSA,
and the State Security Service, SSS, to request
the disclosure of protected or encrypted
communications.
According to the regulation: "Where the
communications intercepted is an encrypted or
protected communication, the licensee shall
provide the National Security Adviser and the
State Security Service with the key, code or
access to the protected or encrypted
communication.
"Where the key or code is in the possession of
another person, the licensee shall be under an
obligation to request such other person to
disclose the key or code to the National
Security Adviser and the State Security Service
for the purpose of complying with a warrant."
The regulation, under Section 20, also
specifies the penalties for contravention.
However, Blackberry messenger, email and
web services are sent over an encrypted
network and the company maintains a strict
policy of non-disclosure of pass codes or keys
to government officials.
Last year, officials of Blackberry said the
Blackberry users in Nigeria were about three
million and these individuals face an uncertain
future in case of possible revocation of
Blackberry licence by the regulator, given its
stern position not to release the key to its
encrypted network to any government
officials.
Blackberry has continued to face widespread
concern over its strong data encryption, which
is beloved by corporate customers eager to
guard secrets, but troublesome for some
governments in the Middle East and Asia that
it could be used by militants to avoid
detection.
It also gathered that the NCC's current move
was in line with strategic measures of the
Federal Government to ensure maximum
national security by providing a legal
framework that empowers the law
enforcements agencies to access any licensed
communication network in the country.

Olubankole Wellington, aka Banky W, is one
of the most popular music artistes in Nigeria
today. He was born and educated in the USA.
By the time he was eight years old, his

scholarship to attend college in New York and

Tiwa Savage
Tiwa Savage is currently signed on to Mavin
Records. She attended Berklee College of

as a background singer for the likes of Mary
J. Blige, Sting, George Michael, Kelly Clarkson

he was named Best New Artist at the MTV

Darey Art-Alade
Darey Art-Alade is the son of the legendary
Jazz musician, Art Alade. He is what you may
call a 'chip off the old block'. Obviously, he

singing in church choirs and was a member of
the National Troupe of Nigeria Choir at a
point.
Darey has been a disc jockey, TV presenter,
entertainment consultant, voice-over artist and

Apart from music, Peter and Paul Okoye, the

goal. Just as they continued to hone their skills
