What is discount ?

2012-02-15T21:14:00.000+05:30

Are you a shopping freak and want to save money on what you buy .... Here are two things you should know while shopping especially when it is discount season :-

How to calculate Discount :-

We know that discount is the decrease in the actual price of product or service, let suppose we saw an advertisement like "25% off on all branded footwear " to calculate discount price we need to multiply the percentage rate to actual price i.e, (25/100)x1500=375 now subtract this figure with actual price i.e, 1500-375=1125 . Therefore the discount price is Rs.1125 if original price is Rs.1500 and they can say like this ~~Rs.1500~~ Rs.1125.

Difference between "Flat off" and "up to" :-

Most people confuse between the offering terms "Flat" and "up to". If suppose we saw a outlet which offering "Flat 30% off on all apparels" it means every product in that particular outlet is discounted with 30%, where as if you saw ad "up to 20% off on selected ..." the offer may be applied on selected product but the discount rate may be 20% or less.

NFC maybe the next revolution as Bluetooth

2011-12-13T22:01:00.000+05:30

NFC(Near field communication) is becoming a standard feature in latest Nokia smartphone's. Though it has low-speed data connection as compared to bluetooth and WiFi , it has a unique feature to recognize another NFC chip called Tag that can be placed in any public places like in museum, temples or behind the movie poster, so that a visitor can get the information by just a tap on it. This technology can be used in movie ticket booking, though it has its own limitations its going to have a lot of impact on the technology we every day.
Nokia featured its upcoming models 700 and 701 in this ad with NFC with a tag line JUST TAP :)

Limits to group sms - TRAI

2011-09-27T23:45:00.000+05:30

TRAI (Telecom regulatory authority of India) on tuesday made an announcement of 100sms/day. Trai had come out with recommendations to stop pesky calls and text messages from September 27, ordering that no access provider (operators) shall permit the transmission of more than 100 SMSes per day per SIM.Trai said, "The access provider shall, before excluding the persons, obtain an undertaking from such person that he shall not use the said facility in any manner for sending commercial communications." It will also exempt e-ticketing agencies for
responding to e-ticketing request made by its customers, SMSes from social networking sites Facebook, Twitter, Orkut, LinkedIn and GooglePlus to their members in connection to activities relating to their accounts
There are several instances where SMSes are an important mode of communication. There could be a situation where a customer has exhausted the limit and suddenly some emergency occurs,

Subscribers have the option of choosing to be under the 'Fully Blocked' category, which is akin to the 'Do Not Call Registry'. If a user selects the 'Partially Blocked' category, he/she will receive SMSes in categories chosen.

For registering under the fully blocked list, a customer has to SMS 'START 0' to 1909.

In order to adhere to TRAI guidelines way2sms is also changing its messaging policies from 27th of Sept. 2011 onwards.

Changes on way2sms

According to the New TRAI guidelines,Starting from Sept 27th 2011 messages sent via group SMS does not deliver SMSes to DND Registered mobile numbers. However, Way2SMS displays DND Registered mobile numbers data while submitting your message.

Also Way2SMS is changing its group Message structure. Messages sent via group SMS will be sent as TD- 677800 (677800 is the Unique number allotted by Telecom operator to way2sms) as the sender.Your Mobile number and a 8 letter Nick name will be inserted in your message by default. No longer you can send group message with mobile number as sender. However you can continue to enjoy 140 characters message same as before.

Also According to TRAI new regulations, way2sms does not allow group messaging between 9PM to 9AM every day.

Nanogenerator - next big thing

2011-07-03T16:01:00.002+05:30

With the threatening of global warming and energy crises, searching for renewable and green energy resources is one of the most urgent challenge to sustainable development of human civilization. We have hydrocarbons, nuclear, solar and wind to power world in large-scale. For powering of nanodevices, self-powered sensor network and system, we need power source in nano scale. Here nanogenrators comes in to play
.

How?
Nanogenerators generates power with wiff of air or due to external kinetic energy like movement of a person among other things for example footsteps activating nanogenerator inside the sole of a shoe; environmental sensors powered by nanogenerator flapping in the breeze. this generator can be used to power portable and wearable personal electronics like spy cameras, self powered sensors and airborne. So, in near future you can expect to see all ipods and mobile devices powered by nanogenerators.“Our nanogenerators are poised to change lives in the future. Their potential is only limited by one’s imagination,” said Zhong Lin Wang from Georgia institute of technology.

Environmental concern
Due to this revolution of nanogenerators there are as many demerits as merits. More nanogenerators means more personal electronics, more mobiles, more sensors means more e-waste. Recycling and disposal can be a huge environmental problem.

All in all nanogenerator can be proven good innovation if it is luanched with environmental concern.

Easy internet Using FabFi.

2011-06-22T23:22:00.000+05:30

What would happen if internet is shutdown? As happen with Egyptians in rule of President Hosni Mubarak. Similarly, the Syrian government also temporarily disabled much of that country internet, which had helped protesters mobilize. Due to such government censorship there is threat to right to express. So, we need to search for alternative path for communication or connecting to internet. FabFi is one such alternative way to get
connected to internet. Most of the components can be build out of trash. It's low tech, it's simple and it's works.

FabFi is open source project by FabLab of MIT's. Through FabFi one can transmit wireless ethernet signals across distance of up to several miles. By building wireless network, communities can use high speed internet. Therefore it is user extensible, long range point-to-point and mesh hybrid-wireless broadband connection infrastructure. At present network deployed in two countries Afghanistan and Kenya.

How do it works?

Well a resident of remote place can build a FabFi node by mounting wireless router on RF(radio frequency) reflector with a wire mesh surface, with a budget of approximately $60. In a single link of FabFi system should consist of two reflectors with wireless routers. A single router can be linked to both wired and wireless connection at the same time. In this way they create a mesh network. The advantage in this network is any new user can connect to any node and one node is up linked to WWW.

FabFi uses an open source 3rd party firmware called openWRT, on all of its router that give a wide range of network monitoring and self-diagnostic tools. As reliable power is ongoing challenge in some areas, the supporting devices can powered by car battery of 12V D.C.

As from source FabFi has proven increadibly reliable in Afghanistan harsh climate. In spite of some hardware failures, FabFi is cheapest and reliable way to get broadband internet usage in remote places or most war-torn regions of the world.

Apple released it's next generation imac which features Quad-core intel core i5 and i7 processor , all new AMD Radeon HD graphics processor , Facetime HD camera and last but not laeast Thunderbolt . All of you may wonder what is Thunderbolt???
well it is type of connector used to connect input and output peripheral like external hard drive with data transfer rate up to 20x faster than USB2.0 and up to 12x faster than FireWire800. It is known fact that USB2.0 transfer rate is 480 Mbit/s and FireWire 800 (IEEE 1394b-2002)
transfer rate is 3200 Mbit/s , now Thunderblot clams to give more data transfer rate up to 10 GB/s.
Apart from above as mentioned earlier new imac has intel core i5 and i7 processor which has TurboBoost 2.0 needed for smooth performance .

AMD Radeon HD graphics processor is another feature of the imac and it is three times faster than before . Company clams that this graphic processor helps in 3D gaming , editing HD video and many more . AMD Radeon HD 6970m,with up to 2GB of dedicated GDDR5 video memory , these processor provides up to three times faster performance than the previous generation.

Face time HD camera is must needed in video chatting for its great performance in that clear and crisp

life like images with wide angle lens. All in all imac is perfect choice for great performance needs.(source:Apple) .
