Collectible Sports Memorabilia

2011-02-02T23:58:00.000-08:00

COLLECTING sports collectibles or sports memorabilia, antique or modern, is limited by two factors: the money available and the space to be filled. Having determined these basic essentials, it is then a personal matter. The taste of the collector may lead to Baseball Memorabilia, Basketball Memorabilia, Football Memorabilia, Golf Memorabilia, NASCAR memorabilia, Diecast Collectibles, Bobble Heads, Hero Posters, or innumerable other things. The lucky acquisition of an admired piece may lead to a determination to get more of the same, or at least to find out what the admiration is all about.
An encyclopedia definition of Sports Collecting would go something like this: "The hobby of sports collecting consists of acquiring specific sports items based on a particular sporting interest of the sports collector. These sports collections of sporting things are often highly organized, carefully cataloged, and attractively displayed." A sports collectible (or collectable) is defined as a manufactured item designed for people interested in sports to collect. The term sports memorabilia usually refers to items related to sporting that can be directly connected to a recent or historical sporting event or sports personality. There are many people that collect these sports memorabilia and collectibles.
Since collecting depends on the interests of the individual collector, it may deal with almost any subject including sports collectible & sports memorabilia. The depth and breadth of the collection may also vary. Some collectors choose to focus on a specific subtopic within their area of general interest, for example Baseball memorabilia of the New York Yankees, Basketball memorabilia of the Los Angeles Lakers, Football memorabilia of the Dallas Cowboys, Golf memorabilia of Tiger Woods, NASCAR memorabilia of Tony Stewart, Diecast collectibles of fire trucks, Bobble Heads for any sport, & posters of heroes such as Lance Armstrong. Others prefer to keep a more general collection, accumulating any or all Baseball memorabilia, Basketball memorabilia, Football memorabilia, Golf memorabilia, NASCAR memorabilia, Diecast collectibles, Bobble Heads, or Hero Posters.
When the NBA, MLB, and NFL began selling their basketball, baseball, and football jerseys in stores during the 1980s, game used jerseys also became a hot item among sports memorabilia collectors. Former NBA player Dennis Rodman was famous for taking off his jerseys and throwing them to the stands after his games were over. Michael Jordan is probably the basketball player whose memorabilia is most sought after by collectors. Today's stars include Ben Roethlisberger, Shaquille O'Neil, Nomar Garciaparra, etc. These players seem to be pushing the already popular area of sports collectibles and memorabilia to a new level of acceptance to the public.
Collections can take the form of a single item such as a signed baseball, football, or basketball. Collections can also take the form of a series of items, such as jerseys from each member of a particular baseball, basketball, or football team. A NASCAR collection of hats from different drivers is very popular. Golf balls with different logos are especially popular. The cost of any sports collectible memorabilia item is directly proportional to the popularity of the sports figure with which the item correlates. The more popular the sports figure, the more money the sports collectible memorabilia item will demand. The whole sports collectible memorabilia industry is driven by supply and demand. The more demand the higher the price and vice versa. Also, the more supply of an item, the lower the price. Sports cards would be a good example. Only so many of certain cards were ever made. Those carry a higher price than those that were made in bulk. Quality is a very big determining factor in the price of any sports collectible memorabilia item. In general, the better the quality, the higher the price.

Can You Really Make Money Betting on Sports?

2011-02-02T19:25:00.000-08:00

Can you really make money betting on Sports? Although for the masses, the answer is a resounding "No", when you take heed to the following information, you'll be armed with a surefire sports betting system that will empower you with a 97~100% probability of winning your sports bets and leaving the masses way behind to suck up the dust after you make money betting on sports - even if you have absolutely no experience betting on sporting events right at this moment. So, by the time you finish reading this article, your answer will be a resounding "Yes, you really can make money betting on sports" when you get access to the right sports betting system...

Many Professional Gamblers actually make a good living betting on sports. However, such Pro Gamblers are quite a rare breed. Whether you're a pro, newbie, or somewhere in between, just like the casinos where the house absolutely rules, in when it comes to betting on sports, the odds are stacked in the bookie's or SportsBook's favor, NOT yours--unless you've got a surefire sports betting system to do the hard work for you plus enable you to make money betting on sports and avoid going to the proverbial "poor house", wherever that is...

Some of the biggest fallacies within the realm of sports gambling are that you've gotta be passionate and very knowledgeable about whatever sports you are placing bets on. Another fallacy is that betting on sports requires extensive research on your part. Perhaps that used to be true before a proven surefire system of placing sports bets that enables you to consistently win at a 97~100% accuracy level was invented by Cornell University graduate and sports enthusiast John Morrison, who earned his PhD in statistics.

But those do-it-yourself sports bet days are now a thing of the past! Since John is an extremely knowledgeable sports fanatic, you don't have to be so knowledgeable and fanatical about sports anymore in order to make money betting on sports! And of course research certainly has to be done - it's just that YOU no longer have to do it when you have a 97~100% accurate surefire Sports Betting System to do all that grunt research on your behalf...

Even if you place your sports bets according to John's proven surefire sports betting system, there is still one hard and fast rule that you should adhere to, which is to never bet more than 10% of your "bankroll" on any particular sports event. For newbies or beginners, your "bankroll" is the overall amount of money that you are comfortably willing to lose on all of your sports bets. As a prudent Sports Better, you should put considerable thought into setting your own bankroll and adhering to this 10% rule.

The only way to consistently make money betting on sports is to constantly pick the winners and minimize your losses on a consistent basis over an extended period of time. Now you can either spend countless years of trial and error devising and tweaking your own sports betting system, or you can use the proven surefire sports betting system meticulously developed by Professional Statistician and seasoned sports betting pro John Morrison.

The choice is yours, and the most amazing aspect of John's sports betting system is that some of the people who make money sports betting using his system have absolutely no interest whatsoever in sports--just in making money on a consistent basis, which is precisely what just some of those Successful First-Time Sports Bettors have done as you'll see when you see them up-close & personal and listen to what they have to say from the heart about how this system has vastly improved their lives and financial status.

Since this sports betting system is so accurate in terms of winning MLB, NBA, and NFL Picks and it's so revolutionary, it actually shifts the overriding question from "Can you really make money betting on sports?" to "Why not make money on 97~100% of your sports bets starting right this moment?" Now that you've got access the right system, just give it a shot and see for yourself that you really can make serious money betting on sports with this "Done For You" sports betting system - even without any prior sports betting experience @ all...

Online Sport Betting In Today's Society

2011-02-02T19:06:00.000-08:00

Online sport betting is a game of skill. For that reason online sport betting is big business the world over. Sport betting is a popular past-time all over the world; in fact it is deeply rooted in the culture of almost all civilizations. Sport betting is the art of predicting sports results by placing a bet or wager on the outcome of the specified sporting event. Sport betting is competitive not only for the bettors but also for the sports books, so shop around for the one that offers the type of bets that you are interested in betting on.

Betting On Sports

Sport betting is the general activity of predicting sports results by making a wager on the outcome of a sporting event. Perhaps more so than other forms of gambling, the legality and general acceptance of sports betting varies from nation to nation. Proponents of legalized sports betting generally regard it as a hobby for sports fans that increases their interest in particular sporting events, thus benefiting the leagues, teams and players they bet on through higher attendances and television audiences. There are professional sports bettors that make a good income by betting on sports. Aside from simple wagers, betting a friend that one's favourite sports team will win its division, for instance, or buying a football "square" for the Super Bowl, sports betting is commonly done through a bookmaker. Bookmaker shops that cater towards professionals generally have higher (or no) upper betting limits and offer lower vigorish, while making some of the money back on fees for withdrawals or minimum bets.

The Sport Of Laundering

Sports are part of our lives just as betting is a part of sports. Sports betting can be a lot of fun. Sport betting online has become more and more popular through the years. Historically, sport betting has been associated with a number of unsavory characters, which has a lot to do with its desultory legal treatment throughout the world. Organized crime notoriously has relied upon sports betting for money laundering or funding purposes. However the general perception of sports betting is now one of a common and acceptable pass time in most societies.

Online Sports Wagering

Online sport betting provides you with many different options because online sports books are in competition with one another. Online sports books are very safe, very friendly, and very efficient. Online sport betting has made it possible for anyone to take advantage of the great incentives offered by many of the online sports book providers. The main question, before you start with online sports betting is how to decide which online bookmaker to choose. Making a right choice when you select a bookmaker to bet with is an essential step for successful online betting.

In summary sports betting is as old as the sports themselves. Online betting, particularly sport betting is very popular and continues to become more popular each year. Online sport betting is estimated to be 5 times bigger than Las Vegas sports betting. Sports Betting is pretty simple, all you have to do is learn the ropes. Sport betting is easy to do and if you enjoy watching sports anyways, it could add to the fun of supporting your favourite team.

Modern Technology has Given Us a Wonderful Range of Sports Sunglasses

2011-02-02T15:49:00.000-08:00

Modern technology has given us a wonderful range of sports sunglasses frames and sports sunglasses lenses made to both enhance and stand up to the demands of the sports enthusiast with lightweight, flexible, durable materials, no-slip frames and a wide variety of lens options. The sports sunglasses and discount sunglasses are made to suit whatever sporting activity you might be considering whether it be golfing, skiing, snow boarding, playing tennis, motorcycling, cycling, kayaking, boating, water skiing, fishing, mountain climbing, snow shoeing, mountain biking, playing baseball, running or jogging the options have never been more abundant.

One of the most important aspects of the sports sunglasses is the lenses. The optical quality and visual enhancement of sports lenses has never been better. Lens colors such as brown, yellow, green, gray, rose, amber and orange can help enhance your sports performance by filtering out colors and allowing you to see what is most important. Polycarbonate lenses are a popular choice as they are impact resistant and very strong which is helpful when it comes to sports. Having lenses that are impact resistant is also a necessary factor when it comes to children wearing sunglasses, impact resistant means the lenses won't shatter if bumped or knocked.

The sports sunglasses frames available are just as important as the lenses you choose. Sports sunglasses frames can be found in lightweight and durable frame materials such as polyamide which keeps it shape even when under stress. Goggle frames made of softer flexible materials like rubber, nylon and propionate prove to be excellent as they hold their shape and will not become brittle in the cold temperatures when skiing or snow boarding and therefore will not injure your face. It is possible to find good quality discounted sunglasses, replica sunglasses and sports sunglasses frames to accommodate whatever sporting activity you choose to participate in.

When it comes to sports sunglasses polarized lenses are another popular option as they are ideal for water and winter sports where water and snow can increase the reflective glare, especially on flat surfaces. Polarized sunglasses lenses absorb approximately ninety eight percent of reflective glare offering glare free vision for your sporting activities. Polarized sunglasses are excellent choices for boating, water skiing, skiing, snow boarding, golfing, motorcycling, cycling and jogging with polarized lenses also available in ski goggles. Polarized sunglasses come in a wide variety of designs, colors and styles and can be found on discount sunglasses sites at affordable prices for everyone.

With so many wonderful sports sunglasses, polarized sunglasses, discounted sunglasses and replica sunglasses to choose from you might have difficulty selecting just one or two pairs of sunglasses. With that said the following are just a few of the sports sunglasses trends you might encounter and can include; no-slip temple grips and nose pads (quite often made of rubber); polarized sunglasses lenses that enhance sports performance by absorbing ninety eight percent of reflective glare; lightweight and durable sports sunglasses frames made with polyamide which keeps it shape even when under stress; sports sunglasses with changeable lens systems that allow you to use dark lenses under sunny skies or clear lenses for darker conditions; and sports specific sunglasses with color enhance lenses.

Ski goggles like sports sunglasses have also benefited from modern technology with the materials used to make them. Ski goggles not only provide protection for the face but for the eyes as well, with some ski goggles covering the whole upper portion of the face (smaller goggles are also available). Ski goggles are made with a lens area large enough to give the wearer a wide field of view and good peripheral vision. Unlike sports sunglasses ski goggle frames are made of softer more flexible materials like rubber, nylon and propionate as they hold their shape and will not become brittle in the cold and injure your face. Available in rose, yellow-orange and pink tints ski goggles allow you to make out the shapes, objects and bumps in the snow. Like sports sunglasses ski goggles are also available with polarized lenses which filter out the glare.

Due to the large number of sports related eye injuries each year, the importance of athletes wearing protective sunglasses and sport eyewear becomes obvious.

Whether you wear ski goggles for snow boarding and skiing or protective eye shields made of polycarbonate (impact resistant) for baseball eye safety is necessary.

Sports sunglasses will not shatter or bend like regular sunglasses might. Another reason for wearing protective sports sunglasses is simply for their UV (ultraviolet) protection, you should look for at least ninety eight percent UVA and UVB protection when selecting your sports sunglasses because without proper eye protection keratitis (sunburn) of the eyes can occur. The tinted ski goggles available can also assist with seeing the subtle bumps and lines of the ski hill which in turn can ensure your overall safety.

A popular trend in sports sunglasses is that of sunglasses for enhancing sports performance. Some of the sports enhancing sunglasses can include; yellow tinted sports sunglasses used for tennis where the balls are usually yellow; green tinted sports sunglasses excellent for golf as they give more contrast and visual acuity so the objects in the course such as flag stick and ball will stand out; specially tinted sports sunglasses for trap shooting and baseball; amber or rose ski goggles which enhance the soft grays that mark shadows on a ski slope, these shadows allow you to distinguish the ridges or bumps in the surface. The sports sunglasses that you select should also offer protection for your eyes.

There are sports sunglasses available for whatever types of sports you and your family are interested in. Whether you purchase your sports sunglasses or polarized sunglasses from discounted sunglasses, replica sunglasses or fake sunglasses sites you should always be sure that the quality of your sports sunglasses is high. By selecting high quality designer sunglasses lenses and sports sunglasses frames you will be protecting your eyes from damage, while at the same time enhancing your sporting activity to the fullest.

Sports Arbitrage - A Path to Regular Risk Free Profits - Learn More

2011-02-02T14:33:00.000-08:00

Sports arbitrage betting

Arbitrage sports betting is a proven way to get regular risk free profits from the massive online fixed odds betting market. In a way it's like a swoop and scoop of regular small profits from pitting one fixed odds bookmaker against another.

Sports arbitrage betting takes it's origins from arbitrage trading in financial markets. In financial markets an arbitrage trade exploits the difference in the price of a listed company on a stock market in different countries.

Sports arbitrage trading is where someone regularly trades price inconsistencies between fixed odds bookmakers on the same sporting event. After all bookmakers are only human and they make mistakes. These mistakes can be exploited by someone who wants to spot them.

In truth a lot of fixed odds bookmakers don't want you to know this information....but sports arbitrage betting is legal and doesn't harm the bookmakers business in any case. The returns you can expect from sports arbitrage trading are limited only by the fixed odds bookmakers who cap the stake size. The only investment needed with a 'sport arb' is your betting stake, which as you'll learn is totally guaranteed.

What sort of budget should I start with for sports arbitrage trading?

Well, this is your decision. Depending on your level of experience we would suggest free sport arbitrage betting with the free bets available from online fixed odds bookmakers. You can increase your budget with your level of confidence. The winnings with sport arbitrage trading can be added to your bank. If you decided to invest a percentage of you bank each time your stake and you profit will increase accordingly.

How do bookmakers lose their money?

Sports arbitrage trading is all about spotting inconsistencies between different bookmakers' prices that regularly exist. As a result of mistakes by fixed odds bookmakers an under round occurs. An under round forms the basis of a sports arbitrage bet. Simply the under round is when the total number of probabilities priced by the odds on that event are below 100%. A typical under round is where you would have to invest £96 to get the bookmaker to pay you £100. Using this example a sports arbitrage bet would give you a return of 4%. You can expect a return of around 4% for sports arbitrage bets. Sometimes you will get more than 4%.

Sports arbitrage bets win regardless of the outcome of the event without any need for expert knowledge of sports betting or sports. This is one of the reasons sports arbitrage betting has a popular following.

There are two sides to any fixed odds bet, back and lay. Sports arbitrage bets come as back / back bets or back / lay bets.

Lets have a look at how these sports arbitrage bets might look.

Back / back sports arbitrage

In the week of October 7th there were many arbs between 3% and up 9.17% for the European Championship Qualifiers played that week. Several of these sport arb opportunities lasted longer than normal because of the massive amount of interest in the games.

An example of one sport arb that week is given below: -

Poland Vs Latvia You could bet: - Latvia at 15.0 with Bet365 or Eurobet The Draw at 7.0 Luvbet Poland at 1.35 with several bookmakers including Unibet.com and Nordicbet.com. The odds have been converted to a percentage to make it easier to visualize.

By splitting your total stake Poland 77.951%, Draw 15.033% and Latvia 7.016% you would guarantee a profit of 5.23% regardless of the outcome of the match.

i.e.

Poland 77.951 x 1.35 = 105.23 Draw 15.033 x 7 = 105.23 Latvia 7.016 x 15 = 105.23

Why do these pricing inconsistencies or under round prices occur?

As bookmakers can now operate online, there are now hundreds of online fixed odds bookmakers. They are all competing with one another and are located in various countries and time zones. To be the person who actually prices a particular sportsbook you have to have a massive amount of knowledge of that sport. To compete, fixed odds bookmakers offer loads of sports in their sportsbook, but there isn't the expertise to cover every sport. They may have the relevant stats but they can't possibly know every participant and every event. In short mistakes can and do happen. Taking this into account and the difference in time zones you get hundreds of opportunities for sports arbitrage trading every week.

Take two examples.

When England play soccer most bets with UK bookmakers will be supporting England. Bookmakers may offer the opposition at an inflated price to create a balanced book.

A typical week with four golf tournaments and a couple of tennis events bookmakers may have to price up 800 or so outright odds plus over 400 matches just in these two sports alone. We only need two bookmakers from the many available to have a difference of opinion in one of these markets to create an opportunity.

Back / lay sports arbitrage betting

You can also find a sport arb between the back and lay price (win / lose) for the event. Back / lay sports arbitrage betting has been made easier due to betting exchanges like Betfair. A betting exchange allows members to lay an event (e.g. for a horse to lose). A back / lay sports arbitrage bet occurs when the price offered by a bookmaker is higher than the lay price available on a betting exchange for the same selection. The difference between the two represents your profit. Often a bookmaker can be slow to change the price on a favourite when something has happened to reduce the odds. As the price drops on the betting exchange you profit by laying low with the betting exchange and backing high with the bookmaker.

How do we find sports arbitrage bets?

Finding sports arbitrage bets can be time consuming. Spotting them is relatively easy. You just convert the opposing odds on an event to a percentage and see if they add up to less than 100%.

Instead of trawling odds comparison sites we recommend using one of the sports arbitrage services which are available. These companies use software to search for sports arbitrage bets for you.

What is the first step to successful sports arbitrage trading?

Sports arbitrage opportunities can spring up anywhere; a fixed odds bookmaker in the USA, UK, Europe or Australia. The first step is to open an account with a selection of online fixed odds bookmakers. There are some specific bookmakers who suit sports arbitrage betting because they allow a high stake size. As you'll learn it is important to have a bookmaker who allows a high stake when you consider you are making around 4% on each sports arbitrage bet.

How do I set up a sports arbitrage bet once I have opened by fixed odds bookmaker account?

When you know which fixed odds bookmakers are presenting a sports arbitrage opportunity log into your account with each bookmaker. Have the fixed odds betting terminal of each bookmaker open in a separate browser window. Enter your stake in each one. Click confirm quickly one after the other and you sports arbitrage risk free profit is secured.

You may want to visit our site to find out more about sports arbitrage betting. We look at which bookmakers are good for sports arbitrage betting and we review the sports arbitrage services available on the internet. From our website you can also choose various free bet offers to start sports arbitrage betting.

There's More To Sports Eyewear Than Meets The Eye - Part One: Eye Safety

2011-02-02T10:57:00.000-08:00

With more and more people participating in outdoor and extreme sports adequate eye protection is a must. The two biggest dangers to the eyes in this environment are ultra violet (UV) light from the sun and impact from a direct blow to the face. The safety aspect of sports eyewear, however, is not solely the concern of the elite or extreme sports person. Sports people at all levels are wise to take some time in considering the type of sports eyewear they choose. With sports participation becoming more and more popular the demand for expertise in sports vision is increasing.

Eye Safety

Both elite and recreational sports enthusiasts need to ensure that their sports sunglasses offer one hundred percent protection from harmful UVA and UVB light as well as being impact resistant in case of mishaps! These are features that many 'fashion' sunglasses lack. For this reason fashion sunglasses should never be worn during sport. They are unlikely to withstand impact and may shatter causing eye or facial injury. The ideal material for sports eyewear is polycarbonate which is a thermoplastic polymer. This material is lightweight and has excellent impact resistance.

Always check the label on any sports sunglasses to ensure that the lenses offer maximum UV protection. Exposing the eye to UV light can contribute to the develoment of cataracts, eye tumours and macular degeneration. The eye can even get 'sunburn' - a condition known as 'keratitis'. This is especially a concern in sports during which the eye is exposed to excessive reflected light such as skiing, snowboarding and water sports. UV bounces off snow and water even on cloudy days therefore it is important to always wear tinted goggles or sports sunglasses during these sports. Polarised lenses are the best choice for these sports as they absorb about ninety eight percent of reflected glare. Swimming goggles are now available with tinted or mirrored lenses to reduce glare in outdoor swimming and other water sports.

Sports sunglasses are also designed with features to make sure they stay on your face! This may sound like an obvious point but it is an important safety consideration. Rubber non-slip temple and nose grips are common features of sports sunglasses. Most are available with inexpensive rubber head straps to further increase security.

A safety feature of skiing goggles is anti-fogging properties. Not only is fogging a huge frustration for skiers and snowboarders, it can lead to potential accidents and injury. Double lenses, anti-fog coating and controllable vents are features to look for in goggles.

You wouldn't wear your regular footwear for sport so why wear your regular sunglasses! Some Optometrists are now specialising in sports vision and are best placed to offer specific advice regarding the safety aspect of sports eyewear. Your eyes are precious and vulnerable - protect them well and enjoy your sport!

Rachel Roberts is Co-Director of Sport Spex http://www.sport-spex.com UK based online retailers of sports sunglasses, skiing goggles and swimming goggles. Her husband, Adam is a qualified Sports Optometrist and a member of the Sports Vision Association. The website offers free online sports vision advice.

Logo is an element, symbol or a trademark for a company. In short we can say it is an identifier of a product or any organization. Logo reflects an organization's style, personality and goals to the outer world.

Sports Logo Design

It is obvious that logo designs for a sports company are very different from that of any business company or food chain. Colors, font, size and style play an important role in giving us an outstanding sports logo design. It speaks volumes about the determination and winning spirit of a particular team. Any sports logo design should be vibrant and sportive with symbols used for that particular sport.

Importance of Sports Logo

A professional sport's logo design is a sign of allegiance and it signifies a person's love for his/her team. A strong sport logo creates a relationship between the sports fans and their sport's team. Fans have started buying an endless stream of sport-related collectibles, using the sports logo to trumpet their contact with a particular sport. The uniqueness of a sports logo design binds the sport and its lovers.

Things to be considered for a Strong Sports Logo Design

A few things to consider are for a sports logo design are:

(1) What does that particular sport represent?

Characteristics of the Sport Logos

The Business Of Betting Sports - New Wave Of Home Business?

2011-02-02T07:22:00.000-08:00

Sport Betting Can Be Very Profitable

Despite the efforts of the Federal Government to curtail or eliminate sports betting and gambling on the Internet, Billions of dollars are being wagered each year through the internet as well as legal land based casino's, sport books and the illegal sport betting bookies throughout the world. Sports betting is estimated to make up to nearly 20% of all gambling dollars spent. Unfortunately most of that money will go in the pockets of the bookmakers. Winning at the business of betting sports is more of a skill than a game of luck such as spinning the wheel on roulette table or pulling the handle on a slot machine. Sport betting is an art and science and many sport enthusiasts who take their sport betting seriously are making huge profits while sitting back on the couch on Sunday afternoon enjoying their favorite pastime. Handicapping a full schedule of weekend football games can take the serious handicapper upwards of 50 hours of research each week. Statistical number crunching, studying game situations, injury's, weather conditions, watching line movements and gathering information from newspapers from around the country. Of course then you must have the knowledge of how to use the information once they have it assembled.

We're not referring here to the hobbyist player or recreational player who might lay down 5 or 10 dollars on their alma mater or hometown team on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon just to have an added excitement to watching the game. They are not making sport betting a business, but then you do have the amateur bettor who takes his sport betting serious but not in the same category as the professional. This is the group that gets into the most trouble. This is the group that in most cases have a degree of addictiveness in sport betting. These are the ones who will find any reason they can muster up to place a wager, especially if it's a TV game. Why do you think the sport books in the Las Vegas Casino's put a big "TV" next to the lines on the board? Because they know they will get more action on those games and they also know the money isn't always coming from the pro who may have an inside track on the game. Without having the knowledge, doing the research and spending the time on handicapping, the hobbyist sport bettor has very little chance over the long run of making profit betting sports.Even taking the 50/50 way out and flipping a coin won't get you profit. The bookmakers have a built in commission, also known as the "Vig" (vigorish) or the "Juice".

This is how the books can stay in business. Depending on the type of wager the book will take 10% of the wager on losing bets. So if you want to win $100.00 on a game, you have to lay, or give the book $110.00. If you win, no problem. You get your $110.00 back plus the $100.00 you won. However, the losers will lose their $110.00, which means they now have to win their next two bets to make a profit. The actual figure for making a profit over the commission is approximately 53% or you must win 53 of every 100 bets you place. Not as easy as it may sound. The professional sport bettor is usually very satisfied with a 60% win record at the end of the season, that's only 7 points over the break even, but will show a substantial profit. More and more people today are starting to make sporting betting their home business. With the assistance of a sport-betting advisor they are able to enjoy consistent profits from their sport betting. Sport betting advisor's, also known as "sport services", are professional sport handicappers that do all the research and analysis and provide the client with a recommended play or plays from the current day's sports schedules. It is the responsibility of the client however to place their own wagers, as it is illegal for the sport service to place the wager for them.

Sport betting advisors are in essence filling the same type of capacity as a stock consultant or broker. Many people, who are into playing the stock market, find themselves in the same situation as the sport bettor. Not having the time or the knowledge to do the necessary work to make an intelligent decision. Just like the stock consultant, the sport betting advisor charges a weekly, monthly or annual fee for their professional experience. The Effective Sports Coach

2011-02-02T04:00:00.000-08:00

In this day and age of mega salaries for professional athletes in any sports, it is not surprising that many still consider the talented players key to any successful sports team. Owners of professional teams and fans very commonly forget the effective sports coach is the most important person in the team. Instead of spending obscene amounts to lure the best players to the club, owners of sports franchises should invest the most optimum money in the effective sports coach.

He will determine the success or failure of the team. But what exactly does an effective coach possess? How does an effective coach deal with his players? How can the sports coach plan and conduct his campaign such that his players and team ultimate reach their peak performance in sports? These are some of the questions we will explore in a good coach in this article. If you were to study the history of effective coaching, you will not fail to notice that very often these coaches produce very cohesive teams.

Teams with a common goal, and players put the team and others before themselves. There is something magical about a team build on successful team spirit, and all effective sports coaches know this. That is why it is paramount from the on start that the coach builds this strong team spirit and cohesion right from the start. More than anything else, it is a team who knows the true value of team work, team spirit and team cohesion that will produce the most successful results and performances at the end of the day. Sports coaches do not need star players who play for themselves. They need players (not necessarily the most talented) who will die for the team. With these players, the coach can do wonders. Hence, for any aspiring person who wants to be an effective sports coach, build a team first before you train a team.

When team work and team spirit is no longer an issue, the sports coach can next turn his full attention to preparing a solid team for competition. To be successful, thorough preparation for sports competition must be the main aim of a coach when it comes to training the team. Thorough plans must be made for the season, right down to when and where the team breaks for their off-season. No details must be spared to prepare the team for competition. In every training session, the effective sports coach must let everyone know his own personal goals for that session. He must also dictate down to the number of repetitions each player must do for their drills. In effect, the he is reducing practice and competition to a science. As in science, the more certain an input is the more obvious will be the result. So when he decides even what time players must sleep before games, he is not overdoing it. The effective sports coach does his job well by merely being thoroughly prepared on all fronts.

One of these fronts that sports coach must ensure that it is at its optimum is in the field of sports psychology. He must include in his plans, target setting as a group, mental imagery practice, relaxation training, visualization training, mental psyching methods, and constant affirmation training and so on. All these sports psychology training must become part and parcel of a player's regime that he breathes, eats and sleeps on them. He must ensure that this aspect of training is believed by players. Players who do not believe in this form of approach to sports must be weeded out right from the start. Which explain why the effective sports coach must begin his preparation by building the best team with the most common goals and perspectives in sports? Sports psychology, more than anything now, will determine whether the effective sports coach can produce results.

Knowing and executing the fundamentals of the game is also important. The sports coach must strive to ensure that his players master these basics fast until they become habits to the players. No matter how simple these skills are, players must understand their importance and perform them to their best. He will always have these skills practices included regularly in his training plans. If at any time these fundamentals are forgotten or taken for granted, then he must return to the beginning and tell the players about the very basics of the game, without which, peak performance in sports will not be possible.

Another important thing that sports coaches pay attention to knows his opponents and his team. Only when the effective sports coach understand his opponents and his team, will he be able to come up with the right game strategies to win the game. In this respect, the coach must consider his job to seek out scouting opportunities of his opponents and seek out their strengths and weaknesses. Once that is known, he can than derive the most creative and effective tactics to overcome his opponents and ensure that his team come out on top. The old maxim of "know thy enemy and thyself, and victory is assured!" holds true all the time under these sports situation.

And finally, part of knowing his own team, is management of his own players. Every team will be different. Therefore it is important for the effective sports coach be able to handle his players individually under differing circumstances. The job will no doubt be easier if the team has been first built right at the start. That is why the first factor is so important for the effective sports coach. To be an effective sport coach requires not just a passion for the sport or game. The sports coach must be able to build a team from a bunch of individuals, prepare them thoroughly, instilling sports psychology concepts in the players, work on the fundamentals, study his opponents and his team, and also manage his players effectively. Only when the sports coach masters these few areas will he be successfully in achieving peak performance in sports.

Youth Sports - The Role of Organized Sports in Your Child's Life

2011-02-01T23:35:00.001-08:00

Sports provide your child with many benefits including physical exercise, fun, confidence and a sense of community. And for many children, sports are the most natural and joyful way of expressing grace and excellence in their young lives.

With these benefits in mind, and hoping to provide the best opportunities for your child, you and other parents dutifully sign up your young children for the local youth program of choice. Surely this is the single best way for children to pursue their interest in sports, develop their abilities, and get the most out of the experience. But is it?

Benefits of Organized Sports

Organized sports, administered by adults, offer one path for a child to learn and appreciate sports. Skill clinics and traditional developmental youth leagues ideally enable knowledgeable coaches to teach children specific sports skills and team play along with sportsmanship and life lessons. Proper instruction, balanced with competition suited to the age group and skill level, can provide the program's youth participants with a great experience. In addition, activities are supervised, helping to ensure the safety of your child.

Don't make the mistake, however, of believing that organized sports by themselves will provide your child with the best overall sports experience. Organized sports are only one part of the equation.

Rich Beginnings

In my youth (and possibly yours) playing and learning sports was a multi-faceted developmental experience. It began with my Dad introducing me to sports by playing catch and providing some basic instruction. Too young to play in a youth league back then, I can also recall my Dad occasionally taking me to a local baseball field on a warm summer evening to watch a Little League baseball game. Mostly, I remember the stop afterwards for an ice cream cone. In elementary school, a gym teacher began our basic instruction in a variety of games and modified sports. Games of kickball during gym class and recesses provided a fun introduction to team sports. At seven or eight, I played in my first neighborhood pickup baseball and football games. Being one of the youngest, I only hoped to get an occasional chance to catch the ball and take some swings at the plate. I was thankful for the opportunity to play with older boys and be part of the neighborhood group. As I grew and became a more accomplished athlete, my role increased--and this success only fueled my enjoyment and interest in sports.

Learning to Become Self-Reliant

But it's essential to understand that these neighborhood games were much more than just playing sports. They were also about learning how to interact with other children--without the help of parents or other adults. We learned how to recruit neighborhood kids, organize the game, deal with arguments, balance our individual competitive instincts against the needs of others in the group, and otherwise manage the game so that everyone wanted (or at least continued) to play. Often, it was a balancing act to keep everyone satisfied and the game going. Depending on who was playing and our mood, the games emphasized either relaxed fun or more serious competition. But most importantly, we controlled our experience--we learned to become more self-reliant.

A Complementary Role in Years Past

For us, the organized sports activities of our youth were separate, complementary experiences that helped fill our weekday evenings and Saturday mornings. In some ways, organized sports represented the formal test of our daily fun and games. We accepted that these youth leagues were run by parents, more structured, and usually more competitive. It was still an exciting, satisfying experience--run by caring coaches who balanced competition, learning and fun. That's not to say there weren't moments of stress, fear, and boredom--or the occasional poor coaching. In my first year of football, I was the youngest (and lightest). Trying to tackle bigger boys was a scary experience. While playing youth baseball, I also recall each year facing a pitcher who had an unbelievable fastball, but who also was very wild. We all were fearful of that pitcher, but knew that if we took enough pitches there was a good chance that he would walk us (but hopefully not hit us).

So what were the crucial elements comprising my youth sports experience? They were involved parents, gym teachers, neighborhood pickup games that provided an opportunity for unstructured, self-organized play--and organized sports. The latter was only a part of the whole.

Organized Sports Today

But it's a new world--and some of the changes are clearly ones for the better. Title Nine, for example, has opened the world of sports to millions of young girls. Other changes include more two-paycheck families, more single parents, 24-hour news that sensitizes us to the potential dangers our children face on their own, and an expanded universe of non-sports activities available to a child. Unlike Title Nine, these changes are more mixed in their benefits and drawbacks. But one truth is certain, parents now lead lives filled to the brim with personal and family activities.

In a generation of busy parents, it's no surprise that organized sports have now taken on a much larger role. Scheduled, highly structured, and safe, organized sports more easily fit into today's lifestyle. Why not expect that organized sports can be the beginning and end of your child's sports experience?

Unfortunately, placing these heavy expectations on an organized youth sports program is bound to result in failure of one kind or another. A limited number of volunteer coaches with varying degrees of expertise, multiple age groups and skill levels bunched together into single leagues, and different attitudes regarding how to balance fun and competition, all make it difficult to produce a program that fully satisfies the needs of every participant. As a result, complaints arise that traditional youth sports programs are too competitive, do not provide equal playing time, and fail to give younger beginners and less-skilled children the best opportunity to learn and have fun.

A Better, More Balanced Approach

So how do we provide the best sports experience for our youth in today's world? I would suggest that parents embrace a principle embodied in our past--balancing participation in organized sports with the other developmental opportunities that include direct parental involvement and separate, self-directed play by the children themselves. Don't simply outsource your child's sports education to an organized youth sports program.

Even in a more complex changing world, you still control your choices. Spend some time playing catch with your child, place limits on "electronics" time, let go a little (take a chance like your parents did with you) and send your child outside to play with other neighborhood children. City, suburb, and rural neighborhoods all present different safety issues and potential risks. Only you can determine how much risk you are willing to assume. But ask yourself, "Is your neighborhood really any more unsafe than the one you grew up in--or has our omnipresent 24-hour news cycle simply sensitized our society to the potential dangers?"

If you are not comfortable with unsupervised play, or your work schedule keeps you and your child away from home during the day, then try to find a facility where your child can play with others in a self-directed setting. For example, it's not unusual in the afternoon at the local YMCA to see younger children involved in either a fun two-on-two pickup basketball game or a more competitive full court game. The YMCA provides a safe, semi-supervised environment that still provides children an opportunity to do their own thing.

And finally, take an active interest in your child's organized youth sports experience. Find the local programs that offer the best blend of fun, learning, and competition that fits your child. Be supportive. But also strive for a healthy balance between parental involvement and providing your child with the freedom to explore sports on his or her own. Don't believe that organized youth sports programs are the entire answer or that you are a poor parent for not placing your child in every available program. You may find that everyone in the family benefits from less emphasis on organized sports.

Why We Watch Sports - (And It's Not What You Think)

2011-02-01T23:08:00.000-08:00

Whether you want to believe it or not, we like to watch sports for very different reasons than you may think. In fact, the real things that cause us to like sports are in every person, whether we like sports or not. What things can we learn about human nature by simply looking at our fascination with competition? The answers may surprise you. Not only are the answers interesting in themselves, but they may just help you in other ways too.

There are some fairly straightforward and obvious explanations for why we like sports to be sure. Sports teach us about loyalty, perseverance and honor. It gives us a way to bond, it's cathartic, and we identify with teams and players. We live vicariously through the players we watch. We have our favorite players, and there are teams we've grown up rooting for because our brother or dad used to love them, and now we still root for them today. Or we may follow a sport now that we used to play as a child.

But there are some deeper, more powerful and fascinating reasons too.

We're All Just Big Children

Whether you want to believe it or not, all adults are just big children. We're all just big kids. We just hide our true feelings and thoughts with highly developed skills (or at least most of us do). We still want to belong or be accepted by our peers, we all still want to be loved, we still feel emotional pain, and we still find ourselves giving in to immediate gratification when we know better. And yes, some of us still lie and cheat in our normal day to day lives.

We certainly hide things better and often successfully 'act' as if we don't care about belonging, or love, or pain, or whatever. Deep down inside we are a little more mature and wise, but basically still just children. We may not say it out loud anymore, but we still think to ourselves sometimes, "That's not fair!" We would rather play than work. Some may argue, depending on whether they pee standing up or sitting down, that this is especially true for men. Maybe that's why there are more men sports fans than women.

You see, watching sports gives us a perfect, safe and secure, black and white, little microcosm of life. Following a player, team or game allows us to experience ups and downs and a whole array of emotions, just like in real life, but we aren't actually affected.

And unlike life, sports and games are generally fair! There are rules and a crystal clear framework, or paradigm that all the participants and spectators know about. There are never any monkey wrenches thrown into a sports game, like the rules changing mid-game for instance. If rules are broken, the offender is penalized. They don't frustratingly get away sometimes like in real life.

At the end, there is an unambiguous winner and loser. We get to pretend that the game we're watching is life, where everything is perfectly fair, everyone plays by the rules and everything makes sense.

Children tend to think of things in much more black and white terms. It is only through living and maturing that we realize that all of life is a series of grays. But we all still long for a simpler and easier life. When things are only seen in black or white, things indeed seem simpler and easier, but life isn't so clear-cut.

This helps explain why politicians who break their platform down into simple sound bites and into terms devoid of complexity often do better than politicians who talk about life like it really is, a complex, interrelated world of nuances.

Watching sports allows us a temporarily safe and socially acceptable way to be more like our true nature, and our true nature is frighteningly childlike. So the next time you deal with a difficult person, remember that they are just a large child, like you and everyone else, and maybe that knowledge will help you deal with them a little more easily.

What do watching a horror movie and sports have in common?

Ever wonder why so many people, including maybe you, enjoy watching horror movies so much? They provide a safe way for people to experience high levels of suspension without actually being in any real danger. Sports can be the same way. Again, watching sports allows us to enter a perfect world where the suspenseful outcome has no bearing on our real lives (unless you have a nasty sports gambling problem of course).

People love drama, suspension, and resolution, which are all elements inherent in sports. In fact, the closer the game, the more suspension there is. If we identify with a player and he wins, we are vicariously happy for the success. However, if the player's team loses, we feel the defeat a little as well. But our lives are unaffected. And sports announcers usually only add to the drama and suspension.

A sports game is a sort of story. There is a beginning and an end. There is a protagonist (your team) and an antagonist (the other team). There is a scene and setting, the stadium at noon, and there is a plot, which is the action. Only after the games ends, and depending on if your team won or not, is it decided to be called a fairy tale ending or a tragedy.

Reptilian Brain and War

Whether you want to believe it or not, humans are a lot closer to nature and the animal world than most people like to think. We're not just close to nature; we're a part of it! Evolutionarily speaking, we are much closer in time to our unintelligent animal ancestors than we are to a transcended sentient species apart from nature. Our behavior is guided much more by our 'primitive brain' than our more recently developed neocortex, which is the seat of our intelligence. The primitive brain, or lower brain function, deals with fight or flight behavior, hunger, fear, and sex, among other things.

A common, yet erroneous concept is that the human brain is the result of billions of years of evolution. Our primitive or reptilian part of the brain is that old, but our brain's extra large neocortex, the thing that separates us from other mammals, came about only a couple million years ago, a mere drop in the evolutionary bucket. The neocortex has not had much time to develop, and so our primitive brain plays a significant role in our lives.

Our basic flight or fight mentality is manifested in sports. We can relate, on some deeper and unconscious level, with the guy running with the football towards the end zone and being chased by a pack of angry men. We can understand what it feels like to check another player in hockey and slam him into the boards. Or we can sympathize with the NASCAR driver who gets passed by a competitor, but throws it into a higher gear and chases after him.

Our primitive desire for dominance is represented in sports. When our team wins, we experience a sort of dominance over the opposing team and their fans.

Our predatory nature is lit up when we see a linebacker following a running back through a mass of football players, waiting for the perfect moment to strike his prey with a tackle. Watching someone chase the man with the ball in basketball, soccer, or baseball affects us in similar ways.

Our tribal instincts are fulfilled by sports. We all want to belong to something; it's a basic human need since we are such social animals. We identify with a team like our ancestors would identify with their tribe. This is especially true for the Western world's modern man, where community has taken a back seat to independence.

Our primitive warring nature is satisfied by sports. There seems to be an innate desire for war, even in so-called 'modern' man. Indeed, look at the world today and how many current wars are going on, and you'll see how far we are to real peace. Pathetically, that last statement holds true for almost any time in history, regardless of when you're reading this. Again, this goes back to the fact that we are ruled more by our 'primitive', survival-driven, fight or flight brain than our reasonable and intelligent 'modern' brain.

Every sports game is like a tiny war between tribes, with an end and a declared victor. But there's one important distinction; unlike war, no one has to die in sports.

One of the reasons going to a game is more exciting than watching it on TV is that there is a kind of energy created when so many people get together and root for one cause. You might even liken it to a mob mentality. We don't have to look farther than our own stadiums where pandemonium has broken out in protest to a call or in celebration of a win. Sports strongly appeals to the gaming and struggle instincts of humans.

And since our modern lives no longer contain any real physical danger and all our basic needs are immediately taken care of, we now have a void that needs to be filled somehow, our primitive brain expects it. Sports fit the bill. It gives us the illusion of reality where there are no consequences. It gives us the illusion of battle, war, victory and defeat, without the consequences. And it gives us the illusion of being a child again, even if it's all temporary.

You may not like sports at all, but we are all a quite childlike inside. We all yearn for some level of drama in our lives. And we are all constantly affected by our primitive brain. Watching sports is one excellent way for people to reconcile these inescapable facts.

Online Sports Trading - A Viable Investment?

2011-02-01T18:43:00.001-08:00

What if there was some way to tap into the ever-growing popularity of world-wide sport that could turn the gambling factor of sports betting into an investment vehicle producing sustainable results over the long-term such as equity trading?

Sports Trading was conceptualized and bridge between conventional sports betting and real-world stock trading was built.

Please note: generalizations are used in this article because sport trading exchanges can differ in nature and offerings.

What is Sports Trading?

You may immediately associate sports trading with that of card trading but until fairly recently, sports trading has taken on another exciting meaning.

Although the actual definition of sports trading may differ exactly depending on the type of exchange in question, it is essentially the act of investing in virtual sports issues or contracts (i.e. sports teams, players or markets).

Sports trading is not to be confused with sports betting (betting against a bookmaker) or some other form of fancy gambling, sports trading runs along the same investment lines as trading on a conventional stock market exchange (e.g. Wall Street).

Participants of:

Fantasy sports games

Stock trading simulation games

Sports betting exchanges

will identify a commonalty with a typical sports trading exchange.

Although sport trading is still somewhat dwarfed by the sports betting and real-world trading industries, there is no question of the future popularity for this concept as people from all backgrounds are coming together to trade be it virtual stocks or issues or real contracts for real money on any sports related market, offered by the online sport trading exchange.

Sports trading exchanges are developing sophisticated technology, commonly employing a proprietary trading platform and in most cases, with a Level II type trading interface.

It is typical of a global sports trading exchange to offer around-the-clock (i.e. 24/7) trading as exchange members are not inhibited with limited or set trading hours so are free trade anytime, from anyplace around the world.

Advantages over Sports Betting

Sports trading has the thrill of sports betting but without the inherit risk of gambling that sports betting produces.

Some notable advantages sport trading has over conventional sports betting are (trading exchange dependant):

Far less risk; eliminates the 'all or nothing' situation

Can still profit even from an event loss

Capital appreciation

Dividend income

Not solely competing against professionals

Greater chance of success (not limited to above reason)

Can be invested with minimal effort

Sport trading eliminates the gambling factor associated with sports betting; traders seldom lose their total investment in a stock holding (i.e. they have the ability to trade out to prevent further loss), the sports bettor loses their entire wager with an incorrect guess.

The sports trader is not competing solely against professional bookmakers whose job is to get the better of you - more often. Sport trading exchanges are about people-to-people interaction so you are pitting your skill, judgement and knowledge against fairer competition. Learn to be savvy and you end up with the edge.

Once invested, the sports trader can theoretically sit-back and monitor their investments passively; the sports bettor must normally wager every time to potentially make money and therefore, incur greater risk on each and every bet.

Advantages over conventional stock trading

Participants of stock trading already will find other useful benefits from a typical sport trading exchange such as:

Lower trading fees due to being solely online trading

Greater participation from a wider audience

Not being exclusive to professionals

Around the clock trading (no set trading sessions)

Wider-economy independence

Readily accessible sport information for all

Global trading stock exchanges

The global online sport trader is conveniently afforded time-zone irrelevant trading from an online trading environment that typically does not shut for trading.

With the world-wide following sport increasingly enjoys (activity is seldom subject to prevailing economic factors that affect conventional trading exchanges) and the substantial amount of publicly available information not subject to a privileged few, sport traders can finally compete on fairer terms with other traders.

Online sports trading on virtual trading exchanges provide a wonderfully unique cross over between conventional sports betting and real-world stock trading in essence; they combine many of the advantages of the two, in a single investment product.

The opportunities that exist on these virtual exchanges and the resulting advantages are too long to detail here but it is the hope of this article to spread further awareness and the investment advantages of sport trading because this is a viable form of investment worthy of promotion.
