2012-09-21T04:48:00.005-07:00

Mikel Obi today deleted his Twitter account after he was racially abused for 'costing' Chelsea victory in the opening match of their Champions League defence against Juventus yesterday Wednesday Sept. 19th.

The match ended 2-2 and Chelsea fans blamed Mikel for giving the ball away just ten minutes before time and also not preventing the equalizing goal. After the end of the game, Chelsea fans racially abused Mikel on his Twitter account @Mikel12Official, prompting the Super Eagles midfielder to delete the account which he set up just a few months back.

Chelsea said they have informed the police after being made aware of the racist Tweets. A statement read:

We've been made aware of racist tweets targeted at Mikel which are totally unacceptable, disgusting and abhorrent. We've informed the police and support taking the strongest possible action."

Eedris Abdulkareem releases Obasanjo-inspired track

2012-09-17T04:18:00.001-07:00

Following the brawl which recently took place between ex-President Olusegun Obansanjo and foremost rapper, Eedris Abdulkareem, the rapper has fulfilled his promise to fans by releasing a new track titled Baba.
Baba, according to Idris, was inspired by the war of words between Obasanjo and himself , when the ex-president made a reference to Idris’s Jaja Jaja.

In this new single, the LaKreem/Kennis artiste sums up his opinion on the current state of the country.
It would be recalled that following ex-President Obasanjo’s statement during a forum organized by Nigeria Leadership Initiative (NLI) on Tuesday, August 28, 2012, where he said that Abdulkareem’s 2004 hit track, Jaga jaga, produced by Kennis Music, doesn’t portray Nigeria in a good light, Idris hit Twitter, where he made a reply.
He called OBJ his ‘joy therapy’, also stating that Obasanjo can’t do without him.
“It’s obvious that Obasanjo can’t do without me. I’m his joy therapy. Mr ex-president, Nigeria still dey jagajaga. In fact worst pass jagajaga”, @idris_Abdulkarm tweeted.
He also went ahead to call Obasanjo a Boko Haram member and challenged him to let Goodluck rule in peace.
“President Obasanjo if you truly love Goodluck as you claimed, why don’t you talk to your fellow Boko Haram members to let Goodluck rule in peace”.
As if not enough, Eedris still went ahead, referring to OBJ as a mugu: “Mr ex-president, I heard you were talking about me in your last interview, hahahahahhahah. It’s obvious you can’t do without me. You are my mugu…”.
Following the brawl, Eedris says he is inspired and will be recording a new song titled ‘Obasanjo na my friend’.
“Watch out for my new single, Obasanjo na my friend…Obasanjo, thank you for making me a star. In fact, talk more about me. I’m inspired!!”, he tweeted

Two years after she released her last album, legendary Songstress, Onyeka Onwenu has reassured her fans that she is not done with music yet, as she releases a new single “Falling In Love,” from her upcoming compilation album, The Legend.
Directed by Tolucci, the video which is not all gospel contains 13 songs and it’s being sold for N1, 000. It explores the christian perspective of Jesus as the groom and the church as the bride. The video opens with a drama between a bride and groom who were about to be joined together by a pastor in a holy matrimony. Blushing with happiness, the pastor goes ahead with his sermon of love, encouraging them both to love each other till death. He pronounces them to husband and wife as he asks the groom to kiss the bride.
Then Onyeka enlightens with a pop-like verse, calling to a remembrance, the professed undying love couples had for each other at the beginning of their union.
I’m falling in love, over and over again…you are all I have, Jesus…, she sings. With a blend of English and Igbo, Onyeka delivers the message of salvation and at the same time, professing her love for God.

Davido issues official statement about alleged arrest warrant

2012-09-16T03:52:00.002-07:00

As you all know by now there have been rumors about an arrest warrant for Davido. These are all false, according to the singer's management. Below is an official statement from Davido & HKN Music.

I want to assure all my beloved fans and friends that, I am not wanted by the police and no officer in the Nigerian police gave an order for my arrest. I went to the police some weeks ago to give a statement and cleared my name. I did not beat up any taxi driver and the lady that hired the taxi driver and all those that are involved in this matter have made statements to the police and none of them mentioned my name except the taxi driver who claims that a large sum of money was missing in his taxi, in fact the lady in question stated that she was not beaten by anyone and that nobody assaulted the taxi driver. This is a case of blackmail, and I have resolved not to succumb to any blackmail for money. And to all those that are involved in this conspiracy to bring me down, I want to remind you that God Almighty himself got me to where I am today in my music career and you will not succeed in your devilish efforts to bring me down.

Woman delivers horse in Edo church

2012-09-13T06:24:00.000-07:00

Worshippers of the World Liberation Ministry located along old Sapele-Benin express road on Tuesday took to their heels during a prophesy programme when a female member delivered a horse.
The horse was however dead by the time Journalists visited the church.
It was gathered that the woman whose identity was not yet known started screaming during the prayer session and began to bleed from the vagina before the horse came out.
The General Overseer of the church, Evangelist Silva Wealth, said he was still amazed at what came out of the woman.
He told Journalists that during prayers a revelation came that there was a woman with an issue and that something was blocking her womb.
Silva said as prayers intensified, the woman started screaming and bleeding started when the object came out.
The cleric said he couldn’t confirm whether the horse was dead or alive because he didn’t go near it.
“I can’t describe the object. We have seen people that vomited several things during our service but not this type of thing. God has been blessing our ministry with prophesies and miracles, “he said.People rushed to the church to catch a glimpse of the horse when news of the delivery filtered into town.

President Obama Addresses Nicki Minaj’s Romney Rap

2012-09-11T02:02:00.002-07:00

Nicki Minaj sparked debate with her politically-minded verse on the remix to "Mercy." Now President Obama himself is speaking out about the Young Money rapper's bars backing Mitt Romney.
"I'm a Republican, voting for Mitt Romney/ You lazy bitches is fu**in' up the economy," rhymes Nicki on the cut off Lil Wayne's Dedication 4 mixtape.
While some interpreted it as an endorsement of the Republican candidate, Obama viewed it as her playing a character. He said during an interview with Power 95.3's "Obie and Lil Shawn Morning Show.

"I'm not sure that's actually what happened, I think she had a song on there, a little rap that said that, but she likes to play different characters, so I don't know what's going on there."

Nicki thanked the President for getting her. "Ha! Thank you for understanding my creative humor & sarcasm Mr. President, the smart ones always do… *sends love & support* @BarackObama,"she tweeted.
She was also flattered that he would take the time to react to the rap. "Awesome! Now I can tell my grandchildren that the 1st black President of the United States took the time to address a Nicki Minaj question."
While his daughters Sasha and Malia don't listen to Nicki's music, the First Couple does have hip-hop on their playlists.

"We have a nice hip-hop collection on our iPods,"

said Obama.

CYNTHIA OSOKOGU: Police recover 50 nude pictures

2012-09-10T06:00:00.002-07:00

Police detectives at the Area E Command, Lagos have said Cynthia Osokogu’s killers took pictures while sexually assaulting her.
The Area Commander, Damian Okoro, said, “The pictures are contained in a recovered black Compaq 610 laptop belonging to Nwabufor Okwuomo, one of the suspects who lured the deceased to Lagos.”
The laptop is also said to contain over 50 nude photographs of female victims who have fallen prey to the suspect.
Some of the photographs showed girls tied with rope and their mouths covered with cello tape with objects inserted in their private part.
Osokogu’s naked photographs also showed bites and wounds inflicted all over her.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation on Wednesday said it had concluded arrangements to sue the management of Cosmilla Hotel in Festac Town, Lagos, where Osokogu was murdered by ‘BlackBerry friends’ over illegal operation.
The deceased was allegedly drugged, raped and dispossessed of her belongings and later killed.
The corporation also said it had issued a query to the management of the hotel to explain why had refused to register with it in accordance with laid-down rules and regulations.
A statement issued by NTDC’s Director of Communications, Mr. Akin Onipede in Abuja quoted the Director-General of the corpration, Chief Segun Runsewe as saying that would “file former charges against the management of Cosmilla Hotel for illegal operation since it was not registered with the corporation.”
He said, “The development which was confirmed by the Director General of the Corporation, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe revealed that a former query had been issued to the hotel to which it had replied.”
“According to Otunba Runsewe, the management of the Hotel has already admitted that they had not registered with the Corporation which showed that the hotel is operating illegally.”
Runsewe insisted that the law would be followed to the letter but added that the NTDC would not interfere in the ongoing investigation by the security agencies.
He said, “We will allow them (security agencies) to do their job after which we will go to court.”

Davido and Wizkid At War! The Duo No Longer On Speaking Terms

2012-09-10T03:47:00.000-07:00

Fans dreaded this day, media experts predicted it, and even the artistes in question tried avoiding it, but it seemed inevitable from the very beginning – a once buoyant relationship between Ayo ' Wizkid ' Balogun and David ' Davido ' Adeleke has finally hit the rocks.
The young pop stars are currently at loggerheads, and NET can exclusively tell you that the vibrant 'Wizzy' and 'Omo baba olowo'are no longer on speaking terms.
Both artistes' camps have taken sides and are on the verge of calling out names; the tension between both artistes keeps threatening the air of peace left.
Recently Davido and his HKN label crew were reported to have walked out of the NEA Awards show while Wizkid was performing.Fans are already asking questions, the most popular one being 'what started it all?'
The dispute between Wizkid and Davido might seem sudden to the general public, but it dates back longer than we think. The cause? You'll have to thank two very important men in the Nigerian music industry – D'banj and Don Jazzy .

FIRST BLOOD
It all started with the news of D'banj signing Davido to his DB Records back in May 2012 – the news turned out to be false, but this obviously didn't go down well with the 'other camp.'
' You see Davido was very close to Don Jazzy and the Mo'hits squad before they parted with D'banj. When Jazzy heard Davido signed with D'banj, he wasn't entirely happy ', a close friend of both camps tells NET.

SECOND ROUND'S ON ME
Don Jazzy is said to have immediately told Wande Coal (who mentors both Wizkid and Davido) to stop visiting Davido at his Lekki home.
Davido, at the time, was still recording his debut album and had plans to collaborate with Wande and Wizzy on separate songs. When Davido contacted Wande Coal, the pop singer's management asked for an exorbitant fee (reportedly N1.5m) for the collabo. Sources say Davido was keen to get it done, but his manager Asa Asika was having none of it. This 'sudden policy' led to a war of words between Asika and Wande's manager Nana . The collabo never happened. Wande and Davido stopped talking and calling each other.

STRIKE THREE
Davido moved on to record the much talked about duet with Wizkid. But when he sent the instrumental to the EME team, Wizkid, sources say, told them he couldn't work with Davido on the song, saying the beat wasn't up to standard and he didn't want to lower his brand. Little did Davido know that it was his fight with Wande that made him (Wizkid) immediately take sides.
' Wande is like Wizkid's elder brother. Wizzy looks up to him a lot and anything Wande says, Wizkid will do. When Wande told him about what happened between him and Davido, he just took sides with him straight ', says our inside source.
Davido, losing on both ends, scrapped both songs and even though it was a huge blow, he didn't let it get him down. The disappointment is said to have inspired the first track on his album ' All of you .' Davido, well known for his boisterous attitude, laid it all out on the song, claiming to be better than 'everyone', referencing artistes such as 2face, Psquare and D'banj as his mentors, conspicuously leaving out the MAVIN and EME crew. The MAVINS seemingly responded by not attending Davido's album launch held at the Eko Hotel and Suites
'Davido doesn't send Don Jazzy or them Banky W again, that's what inspired that song, he believes they aren't better than him and to an extent he does prove it' said our source.

AS IT STANDS
After the Don Jazzy-D'banj split, crew members decamped and spoils were taken. While Don Jazzy took with him pop singers Wande Coal, Dr SID , and rapper D'Prince , and launched his MAVIN Records label with a surprise signing Tiwa Savage , D'banj went the other way with his younger brother Kay Switch . Other familiar friends like Naeto C, Ikechukwu , Davido, the HKN Gang and Mo'Hits hype man Special Ed readily affiliates themselves with D'banj.

SHOW AND PROVE
Music pundits are already weighing in on what a Wizkid-Davido fight would look like, so NET decided to do a short review of both acts.
Davido might look like the rookie with just 21 months in the game, but with the release of his debut album ' Omo Baba Olowo: The Genesis ,' both artistes are on the same level as regards the number of albums released ( Wizkid released his debut Superstar in 2011)
Wizkid had a grand album launch at the Eko Hotel and Suites in 2011, with high profile guests including the First Lady of Lagos State Abimbola Fashola , Davido held his album launch at the same venue , also attended by notable personalities, including billionaire Aliko Dangote .
Both artistes have financial backing – Wizkid has spent the last year performing at multiple shows, earning cool millions. Davido, not long after the release of his monster single ' Dami duro ' started earning big cash, performing in shows as far as Malaysia. We won't even mention his billionaire dad's backing .
' Davido is throwing all the money into his music; he shot four videos before the release of his album and has shot another two. He plans to even shoot more ' a friend adds.
International recognition and collaborations? Wizkid easily leads in that area, having recorded with Akon, with unreleased material with rappers Wale , Young Jeezy and Kardinal Offishal . But it's only a matter of time before Davido jumps on the train, starting with a rumoured remix of his ' Ekuro ' single withAkon.
Davido equally matches Wizkid's artistic versatility with sheer energy and an ear for contemporary sound. For every song Wizzyswitches his flow from Fuji to R&B to Patois, Davido releases 'today's music', easily turning his songs into chart toppers. Talented duo!
Both artistes have solid backing from their labels. In 2012, Banky W finally moulded the EME crew into a powerful unit, with extra signings Niyola, Shaydee and affiliates Rotimi and X.O Senavoe. Davido has kept the business within the family – signing his cousins Sinarambo, B.Red, former Mo'Hits affiliate producer Shizzi (Dami duro) and DJ Snatch.

WHAT ARE THE FANS SAYING?
Fans are closely watching who will call the other out first, but are already baring their minds, with Wizkid receiving major support. But, some say it might not matter at all.
' These fans supporting Wizkid, would they stop dancing to Davido's music in the clubs? Not possible, ' a mutual friend says.
We wish the Superstar and Omo baba olowo all the best…
