2012-06-26T09:39:00.002+01:00

I was running out of space again so I took to my shovel and cut away some grass and widened the border on the left hand side of my garden. Now I had some space to plant some plants that were in pots and spaced out the Primroses that were getting a bit clumped up.

This is how it was before yesterday!

White Lupin

Pink Lupins which Benji nearly destroyed yesterday by stepping right in the middle of them I lost a flower that did not even get a chance to flower.

Chrysanthemum Weed

2011-11-30T12:16:00.001+00:00

I posted these photo's on my email group this morning trying to find out what they are and I think they are Chrysanthemum Weed? If anyone knows then please let me know.

I have a new addiction to my garden today, a nice little Bird house my Brother and sister in law gave me for my Birthday. I had been looking at these so was chuffed to get one.

I am trying my luck with the propagation again but for some reason my cuttings die I do not know what I am doing wrong any advice would be appreciated? The two cuttings I took off my brothers neighbours bushes seem to be OK that's the one on the left and the one just in front of the black pot, but my two Hydrangeas seem to be drying up. I have turned off the heat and have put the propagator in front of the window see if that improves the cuttings.

BEFORE THE COLD WEATHER A RECORD OF MY AUTUMN GARDEN 2011

How wonderful nature is!!!

COULD NOT RESIST

2011-10-14T17:47:00.000+01:00

Well after a weeks of looking at Pansy's and Primrose plants in the Garden Centre I have given in and got some. I went to the supermarket for something little and came out with plants, Trust me!

Yellow Pansy

Mauve blue Pansy

I have been looking at these Heathers for a while also and apparently they dye them this is the Mauve one

These are so nice I love the thick leaves these are the Primrose plants. I am hoping they spread just like the Sweet Williams.

This is the best one it has the most flowers and they look very neat.

These are my St John Wort cuttings 'LOOK' they are growing. I am so pleased after trying over and over to get a cutting. All my attempts failed before these.

Can please someone tell me what these Vines are called? There are taking off now. The other day it was real windy and where the flowers had grown up the wall they flopped so I had to tie them up.

This Sweet Pea is a bonus, after that really Sunny and hot Weekend at the Beginning of October this came up from no where so I have stuck the canes in ready to support them as they grow up. Next year I will have to call my Garden the Sweet Pea Garden. I have lots of seeds in the ground and 6 plants on the other side.

Love these Sweet Williams you have to pick off the dead buds and they grow and grow.

This is a cutting from my neighbours Garden I have tried this one many times before still crossing my fingers on this one.

Sweet Peas growing up the canes.

These are some cuttings from my Hydrangea and some I pinched from the School across the road, I am sure they will not mind.

Can not get enough of these Sweet Williams

Ivy and at the back a cutting of the Rose Bush from Neighbours Garden.

St Johns Wort Coming along nicely now!

And some more Sweet Williams!!!!

Primrose and Christmas Trees

2011-10-13T07:04:00.001+01:00

My Primrose plants arrived from Thomson and Morgan they were so small so I might have to wait a good few weeks until I see any growth. There are 42 plug plants and I have put them on the right side of the garden. I am looking forward to the lovely flowers; I will keep you updated.

I just love Free Cycle I thank my friend Sharon from Canada for telling me about this great email Group. So far I have got 4 lovely trees, Holly, Cyprus, and these two Christmas Trees, Jae from Muswell Hill had them in pots and she said they really need to go in the ground and Jae emailed me asking if I wanted them I jumped at the chance to get more plants and the best part of them is they are free. Jae was the lady who gave me the two other trees.

Jim my brother said I have to be careful because these trees will suck up all the goodness in the soil and stop my flowers from budding, so I have decided I will leave them here for a while to they take and grow a bit then move them to the back of the garden. I did try to plant the bigger one at the back but it look so lost sitting there all on its own it needed the company of the other plants I think.

The two trees together with the Primrose in the front.

I am so pleased with my new border and ever since I enriched the soil with the farm poo, he he, even my cuttings are at last taking. I have tried so many times to get a cutting of my St Johns Wort and now I have three little cuttings coming up. I also have Cuttings of the Bay tree and two Hydrangea cuttings.

Garden Update October 2011 Fall

2011-10-04T10:21:00.000+01:00

My St Johns Wort was horrid when I cut it down but now its sprung up again.

The Sweet Williams were cute when they went in but now!

They are spreading and filling up the space.

These Sedums have come on really good

You would not believe they are the same Plants!

The Ivy is coming on in leaps and bounds.

The Iris have rooted well and growing great!

I am very pleased with the way the Garden is growing and looking forward to Spring

New Side Border

2011-09-23T21:16:00.000+01:00

I have been surfing the internet trying to get a nice border fence for my side border with funds low I decided to make my own. I collected some stone that I already had in the garden and thought they would go well in the side because they match the top of the garden. I took them out a few inches to make the border a bit wider. I am quite pleased with the results.

I am trying a few cuttings that I have taken from various plants in the Garden as well as one from next doors Garden, lets see if I am lucky this time.

Now the pink stones go all the way up the garden to the border at the top I am pleased because it did not cost me any money.

The grass is starting to grow at the bottom of the garden. Today I went over the grass with a fork lifting up the sunken bits and spiking it here and there to aerate it making it ready for the spring. I am so exited for Spring to see the garden come alive with all the new plants I have put in this summer and crossing my fingers some of the cuttings have taken and the new Sweet Peas have survived the cold.

Some Success with Cuttings

2011-09-13T08:28:00.000+01:00

This is the Mother plant one day I will find the name. Where I was digging the soil one day I found I had covered up a branch of this shrub and it was rooting in the middle of the branch and out of that I have got three new plants below. The bigger of the three did not have any roots and its taken. I tried so many times to get a cutting that worked.

I have found the flower bed where I improved the soil is working well with my cuttings I am having some success for a change!

This one was under the ground and it just sprung up the other day that was a bonus.

This was the tip that was growing out the ground near the mother plant this had no roots.

This was also from the same plant. This was the part with roots and the stem is semi hard wood.

HOW THE REST IS COMING A LONG

Flowers are popping up over this plant I like the pink ones its strange how there are two colours pink and lilac buds.

I wonder if my brother will still ague the point that this is Rosemary?

I am loving this, its spreading up the wall well chuffed that this took!

here is the other one, that is producing flowers too!

My sorry attempt at pruning hehe its growing more leafs I am glad about that.

I have made a bit of a boo boo with this I think I have planted my two new plants too near but I am reluctant to move it because it has long roots and I do not want to disturb it. It took too long to establish itself

I am loving these Sweet Williams they are growing nicely and spreading a bit. I am so tempted to get some more bedding flowers like these!

I have potted this again must be the third time the pot was too big and the buds was hidden in the pot now you can see them, its a shame this plant is just a annul. I might try to bring it in doors see if I can save it.

Sweet peas coming along nicely I hope they hold out through the winter months would love to see it grow up the fence.

I got this spreader from a nice lady in my Garden Club she said it spreads like mad.

Flowers still turning green I guess it will not go any other colour this late in the year.

The Ivy is still growing I want it to grow faster

I remember this plant now was giving to me by one of my neighbours 8 years ago it started growing under the stones. Something has been feeding off it!

The Iris plants are coming a long nicely I have 12 all over the garden wonder how many will flower in the Spring?

SPOTTED LAUREL

2011-09-06T20:38:00.002+01:00

More flowers coming up on the Phlox plant, strange, but not the same colour as the pink one, these ones are lilac.

I have moved the Holly Tree next to the Cypress Tree. It was too tempting for Benji he has had his teeth round the bottom a few times ready to pull it up. He has taken the bamboo sticks a couple of times, I would be so upset if I came out in the garden and find it chewed to bits.

What have I done? "Oh my days" I started to prune this shrub but got carried away, before I knew it all but a few leafs were left below is how it was. I will not do that again in a hurry. I know it will grow back because a few years ago Benji decided to prune it with his teeth. I am not sure who is worse me or him.

Treated myself to a few ever greens today and got this Holly Fern Thought it might look nice. When it spreads, it will go over the stones.

I love this, I have been looking at getting one of these Spotted Laurels for ages and today, I though, I am going to treat myself to one. There is one at my Gardening Class and its grown quite big.

New Flowers coming up!

2011-09-04T13:02:00.000+01:00

Its funny this plant me and my brother Jim have been having a friendly Augment he says its Rosemary and I keep telling him its a Phlox Plant but he will not have it. I sent him a photo of the pink flowers coming up but he thinks I did some trick photography with Photo shop and stuck the flower on hehe so funny!

I love this its so easy to grow and it flowers I have been waiting for it to flower if you look below you will see the pink blooms coming out

Garden Update start of September

2011-09-02T16:23:00.001+01:00

A last I have a flower on my Phlox plant thought it would never happen.

The vine is coming along nicely climbing up the garage wall.

The Ivy is nicely growing up the wall too, not sure how long it will take but I like it to cover the whole of this ugly wall.

Remember that Mellow I had up the fence well its growing like made at the back of the garden now, its better then just plain dirt,

This is growing wild too its amazing how stuff just grows out of nowhere?

The Hydrangea is turning green have no idea what colour it will go next, that be interesting to see.

Been trying to get the grass to grow at the front of the garden I gave it a good turn over this morning it was so compacted when I did dig it up I found lots of stones and a big rock no wonder the grass does not want to grow. I might have to put some seeds down ready for next spring. I looked it up on the Internet and the grass starts slowing down this time of year.

What is happening in my Garden end of August

2011-08-30T08:26:00.000+01:00

Remember that vine that was growing up the wall under my widow at the bottom of the garden? I transplanted it to the top of the garden near the Elderberry Tree. Well its taken and now its creeping up the garage wall that is just what I wanted so a successive project that worked.

I had to cut down the Iris I panted the other day the long leaves were drooping so to give more energy to it rooting I trimmed it and the others.

The Sweet Williams are spreading

This creeper looks nice but I planted it too late in the season it is suppose to be covered in pink flowers that never happened, but if you look at the photo below look hard hehe there is one bud.

Pulled up some more Ivy from the front garden and I am hoping it will spread over my little rockery

This little Cutting came with the Holly plant I have planted it and maybe I will get another tree?

My Sweet Pea plants arrive last Friday so I have put them out in the Garden I have six of them two pink two red and two white they were marked but silly me got them all mixed up so its going to be pot luck in what order they come up, it will be a surprise for next spring.

Now this is a learning curb for me this is a seeded pod that has come up on my Sweet Pea so I looked up how to propagate the seeds. I have to wait to the pod goes to a brown colour like a paper bag, then I take it in doors let it dry out and it will start splitting I can then take out the seeds let them dry out then I will then grow the seeds for next spring looks like I might have tons of Sweet pea plants. Will be one way of covering up the ugly fence you see in the photo.

Here have some new pods growing!

My Hydrangea seems to be changing colour I have noticed the buds are going a shade of green. Watching next door Hydrangea I noticed when it changed colour it changed from pink to a deeper pink, red colour. I wonder what colour mine will change too?

Cypress and Holly in their new home

2011-08-27T05:21:00.000+01:00

Holly Tree planted in its new home at the top of my garden

The Cypress Tree is planted here but if it grows to a big hight then I might have to move it. Next doors rose bush tends to hang over the fence and might get in the way.

Transferred More Iris Plants & More

2011-08-26T10:17:00.000+01:00

This Morning I was out early breaking off some more Ryzones and replanting around my garden here are some photos where I have planted them.

These two trees I am very excited about, I bagged them off my Free cycle group was lucky for a change and got in first, one is a Holly Tree and the other a Cypress tree. I will be picking them up this afternoon then I will have to decide where to put them because they could grow quite tall.

Cypress Tree and Holly Tree

Cypress Tree

Now I will have to look for the name of this Iris like plant I split the few I had and planted them in my new flower bed, these produce lovely yellow flowers in the spring. I have no idea where they came from they just appeared last year I guess I have to thank the birds.

If you look to the right behind the Iris Plants you will see the Iris like plant at the back right by the fence with the yellow flowers. This is where they started and where I dug them up and made a couple of plants out of them, now they have multiplied and I have planted them next to the orange flowers the name escapes me at this moment.
