Mabel leans to her left and whispers to her friend Ethel "You won't believe this, but the man sitting next to me is masturbating in plain sight". Appalled, Ethel exclaimed "Oh dear, we should get up and move right away!" "I can't", replied Mabel. "He's using my hand".

A few years back, a woman came to me who had suffered for years with stomach problems. She had been referred to a local gastroenterologist, Tom Johnson. Mr. Johnson could not figure out exactly what her problem was, but labeled her with one of the trash can diagnoses that are given to people when they are ineptly evaluated.

The patient was treated in accordance with the diagnosis which meant long-term administration of drugs rife with long-term side effects, which this patient suffered several of. This is the so called "standard of care" model that physicians adhere to, regardless of the damage it does to the patient.

When I saw the patient, it was obvious that her problems were related to hypothyroidism and dysbiosis, an imbalance between good and bad germs in the gut. I successfully treated both conditions to the patient's satisfaction. All of her symptoms improved or resolved, she lost weight and felt better than she had in years.

When she returned to Mr. Tom, he had no concern that her health had so dramatically
improved, enabling her to get off the bio-chemical poisons we normally prescribe. His ostensible concern was that she had been placed on thyroid hormone for reasons indicated by an extensive medical history and physical exam, which he obviously failed to do, rather than using the deadly "standard of care" of exclusively relying on a lab test called TSH. Years of clinical observation and scientific study have proven the TSH test to be grossly unreliable in detecting sub-optimal thyroid function. This is especially true in women, minorities and the elderly-groups that suffer disproportionately from thyroid related illness. Mr. Johnson reported this incidence of a patient's improved well being to the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners. I had had no dealings with this regulatory entity before except to pay them yearly licensure fees. When they alerted me about the com-plaint from little Johnson, I went to their website to find out more:

Texas Medical Board Mission

The mission of the Texas Medical Board is to protect and enhance the public's health, safety and welfare by establishing and maintaining standards of excellence used in regulating the practice of medicine and ensuring quality health care for the citizens of Texas through licensure, discipline, and education.
The agency has adopted a shortened version of its mission:
Safeguarding the public through professional accountability.
Texas Medical Board Philosophy
The Texas Medical Board will act in accordance with the highest standards of ethics, accountability, efficiency and openness. The public's health and welfare is a public trust and we will meet our obligations with responsibility and purpose. We believe that both the public and profession are best served by a regulatory system that is firm, fair and focused.

I was 2 merit badges away from being an Eagle Scout. I was brought up in the Baptist church by a school teacher mom and a Baptist preacher father. I served in the U.S. Marines. I graduated with honors from Texas Tech University School of Medicine. I was their first choice of a medical student to participate in a student exchange program between them and Guangzhou University School of Medicine in China. I did a fellow-ship in cardiovascular pharmacology under P.K.T Pang Ph.D. I was chief resident for my residency class. I was programmed to believe the above statements.

So, when I was contacted by the board to send my medical records on the case, I naively thought that their interest and objectives were consistent with the above proclamations. I envisioned that when they were able to assess how much the patient improved under my care compared to how "health, safety and welfare" were repeatedly compromised from little Johnson's treatment, they would judge in favor of the "public's health, safety and welfare'. I was wrong.

As I started to encounter the nauseating string of cretins sent to investigate my case, it became clear that "public health and safety" was the last thing on the agenda of the board. Sick, fat people in charge of your health care is like having George Bush as your public speaking coach. The standards will be set quite low. As I investigated deeper, things only got worse. Make no mistake, medical boards across the country are in place to further the agenda of the pharmaceutical industry and others who parasite off the sick state of the American public.

I grew up African American in the 60's. You can imagine what it meant for me, my parents and other relatives for me to graduate from medical school, less well ? accumulate the other accolades. As a Marine, I had to take an oath to protect Americans from all enemies, foreign and domestic. I also took a Hippocratic Oath. So, when I uncovered, and brought myself to reluctantly accept the true agenda of the board, I knew I could no longer ethically sit next to them while they used my hand to masturbate.

Having made that decision, I decided to gain as much knowledge from the process as I could. I went to Austin and met with then board president, Roberta Kalufat, another sick, obese person in charge of the "public's, health, safety and welfare". Also, note above the statement on "highest standards of ethics". Below is a document sent to Texas Governor Rick Perry on the professional conduct of Kalufat:

Steven Hotze, M.D. October 30, 2007

Dear Colleagues,
Greetings! The following is a letter from Dr. Dan Munton, former partner of Dr. Kalafut in Abilene from 2002 - 2004, to Gov. Perry. Dr. Mun-ton is the physician who informed me that while he had worked with Kalafut and her husband, Dr. Brandecker, that Kalafut told him that she would have her husband file anonymous complaints against her competitors and then she would work the TMB to ensure that they were disciplined. Kalafut and her husband have a pain management clinic in Abilene. Their are six other physicians in pain management practices in Abilene who compete with Kalafut and her husband. Of these six physicians, two are neurosurgeons, one radiologist, two
anesthesiologists and Dr. Munton, a specialist in physical and rehabilitation medicine. All six of Kalafut's competitors have received anonymous complaints from the TMB since Kalafut joined the board. All the members of the Hendrick Medical Center Executive Medical Staff have also received anonymous complaints since Kalafut joined the board. In the late 1990s, Hendrick Medical Center (HMC) terminated Dr. Kalafut's and her husband's management of the
rehabilitation program at the HMC. The word out in Abilene is that Kalafut and her husband initiated all these anonymous complaints. The physicians are terrified of her. Dr. Munton is preparing a sworn affidavit, describing the above, which I will present to Ronnie Earle this Thursday when I file my complaint against Kalafut for committing the crime of official oppression. My Austin attorney thinks that we can meet with the Federal Prosecutor, Johnny Sutton, and file federal charges for racketeering, a conviction of which would send Kalafut to the federal penitentiary. The plot thickens like caribou stew.
Sincerely yours,
Steve Hotze, M.D.

Dear Governor Perry,
My name is Dr. Dan Munton, I am the former partner of Roberta Kala-fut D.O. and her husband Ed Brandecker M.D. I voluntarily for ethical reasons resigned from their practice in 2004. I left Abilene to serve out a contractual non compete. Upon hearing of my planned return to Abilene, Ed Brandecker sent me a threatening letter stating that if I had stayed away they would have "let bygones be bygones". I shortly thereafter received my first of two "anonymous" complaints from the Texas Medical Board where Roberta sits as President. Then Vince Viola, my physician assistant, who previously worked for them, was also turned into the board "anonymously". I don't feel this was all just coincidence. It has cost me countless hours and thousands of dollars to defend myself from these fraudulent complaints. It is very concerning to now hear that after first denying, then admitting her husband has turned in physicians anonymously to the Medical Board with her knowledge. I think this is an extreme abuse of power. I am asking you to ask for her resignation. From the hearings you can now see the countless united physicians across Texas that would agree with this position.

Sincerely,
Dan Munton M.D.

So much for 'highest standards and ethics. Unfortunately, Kalufat was only the tip of the iceberg of feces that exist under the guise of promoting "public health, safety and welfare". One has only to take a layperson's look at the state of health of the people in Texas and the continued worsening of parameters associated with health to understand the abject failure of this group's stated objective. Obesity, diabetes, heart disease, Alzheimer's, arthritis, osteoporosis, teen pregnancy, neonatal deaths, congenital birth defects, cancer, childhood deaths from asthma are all epidemic in the state of Texas. You'll note that one of their mandates in their mission statement is "education" of physicians. If the current state of health of Texans is a result of their "education", my mother would give them an F- .

Knowing that I would never accept any of their terms to continue practicing medicine, I was still curious to find out just how criminal they would stoop. I was not disappointed. My attorney continues to hold perjured testimony by their cretin minion Rueben Wilborn. There's more but it just gets more disgusting. I'm the first to admit that I was not diplomatic with these organized criminals. I consider them domestic enemies I swore to protect Americans from. In my mind, for me to continue to collude with people who I consider enemies of the state, was out of the question. However, there are other physicians who are disgusted enough to pursue legal action against these criminals. I wish them well and hope you will support them if you value your "health, safety and public welfare".

Doctor Sues Texas Medical Board for Misconduct

DOWNLOAD THIS DOCUMENT HERE

My Traffic Injection Bouns

Cupcakes may be addictive, just like cocaine.
A growing body of medical research at leading universities and government laboratories suggests that processed foods and sugary drinks made by the likes of PepsiCo Inc. and Kraft Foods Inc. aren’t simply unhealthy. They can hijack the brain in ways that resemble addictions to cocaine, nicotine, and other drugs.
“The data is so overwhelming the field has to accept it,” said Nora Volkow, director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse. “We are finding tremendous overlap between drugs in the brain and food in the brain.”
The idea that food may be addictive was barely on scientists’ radar a decade ago. Now the field is heating up. Lab studies have found sugary drinks and fatty foods can produce addictive behavior in animals. Brain scans of obese people and compulsive eaters, meanwhile, reveal disturbances in brain reward circuits similar to those experienced by drug abusers.
Twenty-eight scientific studies and papers on food addiction have been published this year, according to a National Library of Medicine database. As the evidence expands, the science of addiction could become a game changer for the $1 trillion food and beverage industries.
If fatty foods and snacks and drinks sweetened with sugar and high fructose corn syrup are proven to be addictive, food companies may face the most drawn-out consumer safety battle since the anti-smoking movement took on the tobacco industry a generation ago.
'Fun-for-You'
“This could change the legal landscape,” said Kelly Brownell, director of Yale University’s Rudd Center for Food Policy & Obesity and a proponent of anti-obesity regulation. “People knew for a long time cigarettes were killing people, but it was only later they learned about nicotine and the intentional manipulation of it.”
Food company executives and lobbyists are quick to counter that nothing has been proven, that nothing is wrong with what PepsiCo Chief Executive Officer Indra Nooyi calls “fun-for- you” foods, if eaten in moderation. In fact, the companies say they’re making big strides toward offering consumers a wide range of healthier snacking options. Nooyi, for one, is as well known for calling attention to PepsiCo’s progress offering healthier fare as she is for driving sales.
Coca-Cola Co., PepsiCo, Northfield, Illinois-based Kraft, and Kellogg Co. of Battle Creek, Mich., declined to grant interviews with their scientists.
No one disputes that obesity is a fast growing global problem. In the United States, a third of adults and 17 percent of teens and children are obese, and those numbers are increasing. Across the globe, from Latin America, to Europe to Pacific Island nations, obesity rates are also climbing.
Cost to Society
The cost to society is enormous. A 2009 study of 900,000 people, published in The Lancet, found that moderate obesity reduces life expectancy by two to four years, while severe obesity shortens life expectancy by as much as 10 years. Obesity has been shown to boost the risk of heart disease, diabetes, some cancers, osteoarthritis, sleep apnea, and stroke, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The costs of treating illness associated with obesity were estimated at $147 billion in 2008, according to a 2009 study in Health Affairs.
Sugars and fats, of course, have always been present in the human diet and our bodies are programmed to crave them. What has changed is modern processing that creates food with concentrated levels of sugars, unhealthy fats, and refined flour, without redeeming levels of fiber or nutrients, obesity experts said. Consumption of large quantities of those processed foods may be changing the way the brain is wired.
Antibiotics Could Be Driving Up Obesity
Email2Smaller FontTextLarger Text|Print
The human gut is home to a galaxy of bacteria thought to protect us from disease in the digestive tract and beyond. So what happens when we take antibiotics?
Sure, the pills can wipe out bad bacteria. But they also kill the good stuff. On top of fueling a rise in antibiotic-resistant superbugs, they could be permanently changing the gut environment — a feat some experts fear might be making us fat.
Dr. Martin Blaser of New York University Langone Medical Center studies the effects of antibiotics on Helicobacter pylori — a bacterium that lives quietly in most but leads to ulcers in some.
Although the majority of H. pylori infections are harmless, doctors are quick to treat them with antibiotics that change the way the stomach works.
“Antibiotics are miraculous,” Blaser told ABCNews.com in August after publishing an editorial on antibiotic overuse. “They’ve changed health and medicine over the last 70 years. But when doctors prescribe antibiotics, it is based on the belief that there are no long-term effects. We’ve seen evidence that suggests antibiotics may permanently change the beneficial bacteria that we’re carrying.”
Blaser discussed his latest research with the New York Times, explaining that antibiotics for H. pylori trick the body into eating more by disrupting hunger hormone levels. Indeed, mice given antibiotics get fatter than their untreated counterparts despite having the same diet, Blaser said.
The findings add weight to studies that have found differences in gut bacteria between lean and obese mice. Changes in gut bacteria – called the microbiome – could also be a risk factor for allergies, asthma and diabetes.
“Over time, the scientific community has to create a more narrow spectrum of antibiotics to kill specific organisms and not all bacteria,” Blaser told ABCNews.com. “But we don’t have those yet.”
On average, American children receive 10 to 20 courses of antibiotics before their 18th birthday.
In 2008, the National Institutes of Health poured $115 million into the Human Microbiome Project – a “logical conceptual and experimental extension of the Human Genome Project,” according to a 2007 report in Nature.
“The [Human Microbiome Project] will address some of the most inspiring, vexing and fundamental scientific questions today,” the report authors wrote. “It is hoped that [it] will not only identify new ways to determine health and predisposition to diseases but also define the parameters needed to design, implement and monitor strategies for intentionally manipulating the human microbiota, to optimize its performance in the context of an individual’s physiology.”
The project could help guide treatments for various diseases, including obesity, just as the human genome has personalized some cancer therapies.
In September, German biochemist Peer Bork launched My.Microbes — a social network that promises to connect users with similar microbiomes to share digestive woes and diet tips. Joining will help researchers explore the link between gut bacteria and various ailments, but it will cost you $2,100 and some poop.

<atom10:link xmlns:atom10="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom" rel="enclosure" href="http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/blogspot/aTStr/~5/qEcAD-7PCSU/" length="0" /><feedburner:origEnclosureLink>http://863b6awhr9dv2xcop6udi7spbc.hop.clickbank.net/</feedburner:origEnclosureLink>

$1000, $2000, $10.000, $50,000? Posted on March 23, 2011 by Dr. Fitt
Many of you worry about pesticides,radiation,microwaves,chem-trails,GMO products and other adulterations but after 36 years of healing people from serious disease,I can guarantee you nothing is more dangerous to your health than the many different forms of sugar in our food supply. The reason is that most of the “disease” we face is secondary to an overgrowth of some type of germ. It may be the E.coli that causes bladder infections, the bacterium that causes acne, the overgrowth of H.pylori that causes acid reflux, the bacterial overgrowth that causes periodontal disease,or the Candida yeast overgrowth associated so many health conditions. All these germs are ALWAYS present in and on the body waiting for an opportunity. Disease happens when they overgrow out of balance. 2 major factors allow these germs to grow out of control. One is the gradual decline in thyroid function that happens with age. Every major disease we see in medicine starts to increase after age 27. This is the age when thyroid levels start to decline. Yes,”downhill” starts before age 30. As thyroid levels decline, body temperature lowers from the normal 98.6. Candida yeast thrive at lower temperatures. Thyroid deficiency also slows down circulation. This deprives cells of oxygen and nutrients. Think about not watering your lawn or plants all Summer. Cells will get sick. Sick cells invite yeast like road kill invites buzzards. The second factor that promotes germ overgrowth is too much sugar in the system. Too much sugar in your body is like leaving a dirty kitchen or an unflushed toilet in your body. Yeast are the microscopic scavengers. We detest rats, flies, roaches, maggots and buzzards but they have been put here as nature’s garbage collectors. If you leave food out for them, they will come and multiply. Most forms of sugar invite yeast.High fructose corn syrup is the worst but even so called “healthy” sweeteners such as sucanat, agave nectar, maple syrup, fruit juice(grape, apple, pear, pineapple etc) and honey cause yeast overgrowth. The exception is xylitol. Yeast are attracted to xylitol but they can’t metabolize it. Xylitol actually helps rid your body of yeast and in so doing reduces the risk of overgrowth of other germs. Read more about xylitol on the link below. Give your children gum and candies made from xylitol. Bake with it. Don’t keep products made with other sugars in the house. White flour raises blood sugar even worse than sugar. Never give children fruit juice or other sweetened beverages. They are extremely high in sugar and feed the addiction.

<atom10:link xmlns:atom10="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom" rel="enclosure" href="http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/blogspot/aTStr/~5/qEcAD-7PCSU/" length="0" /><feedburner:origEnclosureLink>http://863b6awhr9dv2xcop6udi7spbc.hop.clickbank.net/</feedburner:origEnclosureLink>

FREE: First 36 of 108 minutes of "Burzynski - Cancer Is Serious Business"

So much “expert” advice in health care comes from people paid by corporations to sway your buying habits. Drug companies, for instance, send out an army of drug reps every day to brain wash doctors into prescribing more deadly medications. “Experts” were hired to say cigarettes were not harmful. “Experts” have you believing grains are good for you. Below is list of consumables you may have been brain washed to believe are good for you.

1) Diet Drinks – You may be swilling down diet Coke,Pepsi,or Crystal Light because they say zero calories. The myth is that consuming drinks(or food) made with artificial sweeteners will help you lose or maintain your weight. The obvious reality is that Americans have only gotten fatter the more artificial sweeteners are consumed. This is because artificial sweeteners are many times more sweet than sugar. This intense sweet taste is interpreted by the brain as an amount of sugar that would produce that amount of sweetness. The brain has no understanding of “artificial sweetener”. Anything sweet, it interprets as sugar. Its response to sugar is to signal the pancreas to produce insulin. Insulin is the primary hormone that controls fat storage. The more insulin you produce, the more efficiently you store fat. Artificial sweeteners make you flood your system with insulin and primes you to store loads of fat.

2) Bannanas – Many people, even doctors, are under the illusion that bananas are a superior source of potassium. If you go down the list of 1,000 foods highest in potassium, you’d go past 950 before you got to bananas. Bananas are very high in carbohydrates that quickly turn to sugar and make you produce insulin and store fat. A good marker for how bad a food is for you is how fast it turns brown or how fast it grows fungus. A good experiment for the kids is to put a sprig of broccoli, a slice of sweet potato, and a piece of banana into a jar covered with a breathable top. Let them see which ones grows fungus then decide which they want inside them.

3) Skim Milk-The “experts” for the dairy industry started promoting low fat/skim milk as a weight loss strategy. Pediatricians at Harvard’s Brigham and Women’s teaching hospital were not so sure. They monitored kids drinking skim vs full fat milk. The kids drinking the skim milk gained more weight. The reason is that skim milk raises blood sugar quicker than whole milk. This causes more insulin production and,as you now know, insulin is the hormone that controls fat storage. Use whole, raw milk.

4) “Salad”- Of course a salad full of dark, leafy vegetables, tomatoes, raw seeds/nuts and good protein is good for you. However, most commercial “salad” bars are stocked with foods that are full of sugar or grains that quickly turn to sugar. Any pasta salad is heading right for your butt and thighs. Pasta is made from white flour which raises your blood sugar faster than sugar. This causes you to produce insulin and you know what happens after that. Other “salads” such as chicken, tuna etc are loaded with mayonnaise that is high in sugar. The dressings are also loaded with sugar, especially the ones that say “low fat”. Use lemon/lime juice, olive oil, basalmic vinegar, grapeseed oil,or salsa for your salads.

) Fruit Juice- If you compare the sugar content of most fruit juices to that of a Coke, you’ll find they are similar. Even drinking “fresh squeezed, organic, orange juice from range fed oranges” is like giving yourself an I.V. of sugar. Ofttimes these fruit juices(apple, orange, pear, pineapple) are used for products in health food stores. They will quickly raise your blood sugar, make you produce insulin, and store fat. The Odwalla brand of juices you see on the shelves at health food stores have as much sugar as a Coke! Juices from 100% pomegranite, cranberry,or red sour cherry are lower in sugar. Even better is to buy the 100% concentrates and put a tablespoon or 2 into carbonated water.

5) Yogurt- Plain yogurt with live cultures is good for you. However, those such as Yoplait that are loaded with artificial sweeteners(aspartame,Splenda, sucrolose) or high fructose corn syrup will make you pack on the fat to your stomach, thighs and hips. Sugar causes breast cancer. Ironically, the Yoplait yogurt full of high fructose corn syrup is touted by the Susan B. Komen breast cancer corporation.

6) Granola/Power Bars- These are also usually loaded with sugar or a grain that quickly turns to sugar. Sugar and refined grains are dirt cheap and won’t spoil, allowing food manufacturers to make a literal and figurative killing by selling them masked as health food. Lara Bars are an exception.

7) Soy foods- Using tofu, miso,or tempeh as the Japanese do is Ok. Using the refined soy products that have saturated the American food market is not. Most of this soy is genetically modified. Soy also contains estrogen mimics. Estrogens are the other primary hormones that cause fat storage. This is why women usually have a harder time losing fat than men-women produce more estrogens. Too much plant estrogen can cause cancers to grow just as animal estrogens do. Stay away from GMO soy products. Don’t use soy milk or protein powders.

Bagels- For some reason, especially women tend to think that if enriched white flour is in the shape of a bagel, its healthier or lower in calories. Its not! The artificially colored/flavored,supersized bagels at the coffee shops can tack on 500 calories before you ever take a sip of your frappamocha skim milk latteccino. Picture that bagel stuck to your butt as that is exactly where it will end up. Pretzels are bagels in a different shape. Most breakfast cereals are just another way to eat cake(refined grains, hydrogenated fat,and sugar) for breakfast.

9)Rice Cakes- Another popular snack for dieters. White rice is a refined grain like corn and white flour. These are the primary grains used to make pigs, cows, and humans fat. White rice products, especially “puffed” will turn to sugar quickly like corn and flour products do. The reason commercial pigs and cattle are fed a high grain diet instead of what they would normally eat is that grains make them fatter quicker so they generate a higher sell price. If you have a high grain diet, you are preparing yourself for slaughter.

10) Soups- Some Chunky Campbell’s sounds great on a cold day. However, take a look at the sodium content. You can get a whole day’s recommendation in just a couple of servings. Commercial soups are extremely high in sodium. Make your own or find low sodium brands.

<atom10:link xmlns:atom10="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom" rel="enclosure" href="http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/blogspot/aTStr/~5/BYGGDtzL5Tg/" length="0" /><feedburner:origEnclosureLink>http://adv.justbeenpaid.com/?r=mitch92021</feedburner:origEnclosureLink>

10 Reasons Why Oprah May Get Breast Cancer | Mitch92021's Blog

Roby Mitchell, M. D.
It’s not guaranteed that she will but it’s hard to walk across a field of barbed wire and not get cut. Oprah is the prototype of women who get breast cancer. These are the risk factors. Pass them along:

1) Age- Age is the biggest risk factor for death and disease in general. As we get older, cells have a reduced ability to repair damage that causes disease. The chance of death from all the major cancers increases with age. Most doctors would say this is an uncontrollable risk factor. I disagree. Time will pass, but you don't have to settle for all the changes that happen with age. Your choice.
2) Nulliparity- This is the medical term for never going through a full term pregnancy. Full term pregnancies, before the age of 25, induce changes in breast cells that make them less likely to become cancerous. Part of this protective process is the marked increase in the uptake of iodine that happens with pregnancy and lactation. Hormonal changes associated with pregnancy "mature" breast cells, making them less cancer prone. Cancer risk is a function of how rapidly cells multiply. The faster cells multiply, the higher the cancer risk. Breast cells that have not been exposed to a full term pregnancy multiply 20 times faster than cells exposed to a full term pregnancy prior to the age of 25.
3) Obesity- Fat cells produce an estrogen called "estrone". Estrone is 10 times weaker than "estradiol", the more potent, natural estrogen. However, long term, unbalanced exposure to even natural estrogens increases the risk for breast cancer. Iodine supplementation and natural progesterone, along with addressing obesity are needed to prevent breast cancer. For optimal protection, a woman's waist line should approach 30 inches.
4) African American- African American women die of breast cancer at a higher rate than white women of equal social status. The same disparity exist in prostate cancer. This may be due to the reduced ability of dark skinned people to make vitamin D from Sun light. Vitamin D3 (This "vitamin" actually turns out it is a hormone) acts in the body to turn on a gene called "p53". The p53 gene regulates a process called "apoptosis". This is the programmed cell suicide that damaged cells normally undergo. If the p53 gene is not functioning, cells that have become cancerous will not destroy themselves. They will multiply, become tumors and spread to other parts of the body. Vitamin D levels should be checked by your doctor. I check blood levels here in Washington State and in Texas.
I have colleagues who check vitamin D levels nationwide. Without supplementation, just about everyone, regardless of race and geographic location, is low in vitamin D.
5) Hypothyroidism- Oprah has been finally diagnosed with the hypothyroidism she has had for years, if not since birth. There is a strong association between hypothyroidism and breast cancer. In general, cancer risk is increased as immune function declines. This is a major part of why cancer risk increases with age. Thyroid hormone controls immune system integrity. Thyroid hormone also helps the body get rid of excess estrogens. Thyroid hormone also improves metabolism to get rid of estrange producing fat cells.
6) Low iodine levels- I don't know for certain that Oprah is low in iodine, but considering that over 95% of Americans are and that most doctors have no clue about iodine supplementation and breast cancer prevention, it’s a safe bet. Breast cells seem to sense that their survival is jeopardized by a low iodine environment. Breast cells in a low iodine environment start to transform themselves into cells that are more likely to survive a hostile environment either change to cancer cells. It may also be that this transformation is induced by fungal overgrowth in the area of iodine deficiency. Iodine is a potent antifungal that breast and other cells normally take advantage of for protection. With iodine deficiency, fungus can overgrow and set the stage for cancer transformation.
7) High T woman- Again, I'm making a prediction based on my extensive experience and success in treating women for hormonal imbalances. The "T" stands for testosterone. High T women don't necessarily produce more testosterone, but they have a higher testosterone receptor count. This means that for a given amount of testosterone, they will display more testosterone driven behavior. A good predictor of a high T woman is an index finger that is shorter than the ring finger. High T women tend to be very animated in their lives. This may or may not lead to success, but high T women don't go unnoticed. High T women tend to have a high sex drive. Oprah's admitted teenage promiscuity was likely driven by this. High T women will continue to function well in the face of hypothyroidism. This may be because testosterone improves thyroid function. This is why, as a gender, men have fewer thyroid problems than women. The downside is that testosterone can be turned into estrogens, especially if iodine levels are low. High conversion of testosterone into estrogens, high estrogens, iodine deficiency and hypothyroidism are the "perfect storm" for breast cancer.
8) High glycemic diet-The "Nurses Health Study"(NHS) was started in 1976. Harvard's Brigham and Women's Hospital proctors the study. I've interviewed 2 of the principle investigators, Walter Willett M.D. and JoAnn Manson M.D. The study has looked at the various factors that predict disease in women. For years it was thought that American women got more breast cancer than Japanese women because of their high fat diet. The NHS has followed 127,000 nurses over the years. They have reported that fat intake, per sedges not influence breast cancer risk. Risk is tied to total calorie intake, regardless of the source, and the glycemic index(sugar content) of the diet. Oprah has an admitted food addiction:"I use food for the same reasons an addict uses drugs".
9) Use of gynecologists- Breast cancer used to called "white woman's disease". Having the financial capacity for regular gynecological visits, white women were exposed to mammograms, birth control pills, and synthetic hormone substitution therapy. The gynecologist is often the primary care physician for women and they will evaluate and treat thyroid imbalances. Generally, gynecologist are worse than endocrinologists in diagnosing and treating thyroid imbalances-and endocrinologist are pretty bad at it. When women are treated at all, they are usually improperly treated. This manifests as an increased risk of breast cancer in women treated for hypothyroidism. These all increase the risk of breast cancer for women who go to gynecologists. Breast cancer incidence has dropped dramatically as women have drastically curtailed use of Premarin and mammography and synthetic estrogen levels have been reduced in birth control pills. Oprah, most likely, has used birth control pills and gets regular mammograms. Both of these risk factors are cumulative, which is to say each event stacks on top of the last one for a lifetime. The more mammograms, the higher your risk. The longer you use birth control pills, the higher your risk. She also states in her Jan issue that she is off the thyroid hormone replacement-unbelievable!
10) U.S. female-U.S. women have an increased risk for breast cancer, independent of the above factors. Many chemicals in the U.S. environment act as "xenoestrogens". Xenoestrogens are manmade chemicals that have the effect of toxic estrogen once inside the body. These are responsible for dropping sperm counts in men and increased breast cancer risk in some U.S. hot spots(Cape Cod Mass, Puget Sound Washington, Marin County and San Francisco California, Great Lakes region, Long Island Nyman Brownsville TX).
Least you project, I didn't write this article for Oprah. Lose weight. Get your iodine and vitamin D levels checked. Request ultra sound and thermograph(combination is best) instead of mammography as screening. For suspicious areas on these test or if a lump is detected use MRI. Consider switching to organic produce to reduce exposure to chemicals. For birth control, use a progestin only pill-no synthetic estrogen, the Today Sponge or cold showers. Get rid of sugar and grains from your diet, especially refined grains. Eat more raw, dark colored fruits and vegetables, especially those in the cabbage family like purple cabbage and kale. Find a doctor who does not depend on lab test to diagnose low thyroid conditions. Don't get old. If you are a minority-switch. If you live in the U.S.-leave.
Read her thyroid story in Jan issue. I believe breast cancer is completely preventable. Caught and addressed correctly, early, I believe it is completely curable. Left unchecked, it is disfiguring, painful, and fatal.
At a June 2011 meeting of the American Diabetes Association, two studies were presented that reported that diet soda was associated with weight gain and elevated blood sugar.
In the first report, 474 subjects were followed for nearly 10 years. Participants who said they drank two or more diet sodas a day experienced increases in waist circumference that were 600 percent greater than those who did not drink diet soda.
The researchers also reported that, as a group, those who ingested diet soda had a 70 percent greater increase in waist circumference as compared to those who did not drink diet soda.
A second study reported that mice that were fed aspartame (i.e., NutraSweet) had blood sugar levels that were higher than mice not fed aspartame.
Artificial sweeteners, which diet soda contains, can lead to a whole host of health problems, including diabetes, weight gain, and neurological disorders. It is extremely difficult for a patient to lose weight if he or she is ingesting artificial sweeteners.
Numerous research studies link these substances with health risks such as diabetes. If the Food and Drug Administration was doing its job properly, these sweeteners would never have been approved for consumption.

A couple of years ago, some nurses asked me what I thought about taking the swine flu vaccine. I said I didn't think it was a good idea for the general public as it had been rushed out and that strain of influenza virus,as with the majority of influenza viruses, was a weak strain that would only affect those with a weak immune system. I also told them that it was a good idea for health care professionals like themselves to take the vaccine as they came in contact with this high risk population. That was bad advice.
I'm ashamed to say that as a physician for over 24 years,I had never read the package insert that comes in the flu vaccine. This was even though I supervised the administration of the yearly flu shots at D&S pharmacy for many years. This has been a failure in general for physicians, trusting the health of Americans to corporations whose primary goal is profit-not health.
When I finally did read the insert,I was astonished to read that right on the package insert it stated that the FLU VACCINE DOES NOT PREVENT THE FLU! This is because there are many viruses that can cause flu like symptoms and it is impossible to include them all in a vaccine. Also, the predominant type of virus that causes the flu-Influenza A-can rapidly become resistant to the vaccine. If you have a weak immune system, you're still going to get the flu, regardless of the vaccine. If you have a strong immune system, you don't need the vaccine in the first place. The flu shot is bad medicne and it has not reduced the incidence of deaths from the flu. We continue to have the same amount of deaths each year. This an example of being "Stuck on Stupid". So,how can you protect yourself and your family from the flu and other types of viruses? The intelligent thing to do is adopt immune boosting strategies.
Immune boosting strategies are not new or relegated to some "Alternative Medicine" practice. "There is no alternative to practicing good medicine"-Dr Fitt. What you do works or it doesn't work. If what you recommend is causing the deaths of 200,000 people each year, you should rethink your career choices.
The internet has become "Toto" for the common man. It allows you to pull back the curtain and expose fraud. You don't need to depend on some one in a white coat anymore to tell you what to do. We were trained by the drug companies. Answers are at your finger tips. I'm going to give you what I would recommend. But don't even trust me. Get a second and even third opinion.
1) Optimize thyroid function-The common denominator for "the very young, pregnant women, and the elderly" is low thyroid function. The very young have immature thyroid function. The high levels of estrogens during pregnancy inhibit thyroid function. The elderly have declining levels of thyroid function. The only way to accurately establish if some one is hypothyroid is to evaluate their symptoms. Lab tests are almost always inaccurate. Even if you are taking thyroid replacement, evaluate yourself to see if you still have symptoms. The commonly prescribed form of thyroid-Synthroid(levothyroxin) is usually a poor choice.

2) Supplement with Iodoral or something comparable- Iodine is the natural blood purifier. How do you think ocean animals survive living in a huge toilet that never flushes? Iodine in the ocean works like chlorine in a swimming pool. Living far from the ocean,we don't get enough iodine. Iodine kills viruses, bacteria, and yeast/fungus.

3) Vitamin D3-D3,it turns out is not a vitamin but a hormone. Vitamins are building blocks-like bricks. Hormones are regulators-like the carpenter. D3 regulates many processes in the body including the production of natural antibiotics. Your Dr can measure your level of D3. It should be between 70-100. You can Google much more info about the effect of D3 on the immune system.

4) Vitamin A- Vitamin A is another hormone that is critical to keeping viruses at bay. Your doctor can do a test to see if your vitamin A is low.

5) Selenium-Selenium is a mineral that boosts immune system function. It also reduces your risk for several types of cancer and assists in thyroid function.

6) Hydrochloric Acid-Normally,when you eat a meal your stomach produces hydrochloric acid to sterilize it for the 2 hours required to digest your food. If your production of hydrochloric acid is low,as happens with age, bacteria an yeast that normally live inside you come to eat/ferment your food. This causes heart burn, bloating and other symptoms. The overgrowth of these organisms weakens your immune system.

7) BALi Eating plan- Fungal/yeast overgrowth is a fundamental "first domino" for getting sick in the Fall/Winter. The flu is not the worst in the coldest part of Winter. Cold is not what causes the flu. The flu is worse during the time when the temperature is just right for yeast/fungus to overgrow-Nov-Dec. When these germs overgrow, they produce chemicals(mycotoxins) that weaken your immune system. Once the immune system is weak, its easier for viruses and germs to attack. Foods high in sugar or foods that quickly turn to sugar will fuel yeast over growth.
These are basic, powerful strategies that will keep most people well this year and would save 1,000's of lives if implemented on a wide scale. But that would deplete the drug cartels and make you responsible for your own health. Nobody wants that.

<atom10:link xmlns:atom10="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom" rel="enclosure" href="http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/blogspot/aTStr/~5/k5637HsiAyU/" length="0" /><feedburner:origEnclosureLink>http://clixzing.com/?ref=mitch92021</feedburner:origEnclosureLink>

mitch92021 :: social network marketing | FREE online branding with IMfaceplate

AbstractArticleReferencesCiting Articles (289) Letters
As a result of advances in treatment, almost 80% of children and adolescents who receive a diagnosis of cancer become long-term survivors.1 In the United States, there are approximately 270,000 survivors of pediatric cancer, or about 1 of every 640 adults between the ages of 20 and 39 years.2 The large number of survivors has prompted studies of the long-term health consequences of treatments for childhood cancer.2-4 It is now clear that damage to the organ systems of children caused by chemotherapy and radiation therapy may not become clinically evident for many years.
To understand fully the health risks incurred by treatment of childhood cancer, it is important to measure three types of long-term outcomes: health status, mortality, and morbidity. Of these, the first two have been fairly well characterized.5,6 In a retrospective analysis of 20,227 5-year survivors of cancer, Mertens et al.5 found statistically significant excess rates of death from subsequent cancers (standardized mortality ratio [SMR], 19.4), from cardiac causes (SMR, 8.2), and from pulmonary causes (SMR, 9.2). In a study of 9535 adults who had survived childhood cancer, 44% reported having at least one domain of health status (general health, mental health, functional status, limitations in activity, cancer-related pain, and cancer-related fear or anxiety) that was moderately or severely affected.6
However, only a few small studies have assessed the long-term morbidity that follows the treatment of childhood cancer. Four studies, with a combined sample of 1330 survivors, reported an estimate of the prevalence of “late effects,” or chronic conditions that were possibly associated with cancer therapy.7-10 The small sample limited the ability of these studies to assess the risk of chronic conditions associated with a particular treatment. Moreover, there were no comparison groups to provide perspective, and the outcomes were reported for survivors who were relatively young and still involved in follow-up care. The Institute of Medicine report Childhood Cancer Survivorship: Improving Care and Quality of Life highlights the need for further research to characterize the health of long-term survivors of childhood cancer and to determine the prevalence and incidence of adverse health outcomes and chronic conditions after cancer therapy.2
The purpose of this study was to investigate the large and geographically diverse cohort that is followed in the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study (CCSS), with the goal of determining the prevalence, incidence, and severity of chronic health conditions in adult survivors of childhood cancer, and to determine the risk of chronic conditions in the survivors, as compared with their siblings. In addition, we sought to identify subpopulations of survivors at highest risk for severe, debilitating, or life-threatening chronic health conditions. In short, we sought to provide an estimate of the overall physical morbidity secondary to the type of cancer and cancer therapy.
METHODS
Subjects
CCSS is a multi-institutional, retrospectively ascertained cohort of adults who have survived for at least 5 years after treatment for childhood cancer. Our study was restricted to participants who met the following criteria: a diagnosis of leukemia, central nervous system (CNS) tumor, Hodgkin's disease, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, Wilms' (kidney) tumor, neuroblastoma, soft-tissue sarcoma, or bone tumor; a diagnosis and initial treatment at one of 26 collaborating CCSS institutions; a date of diagnosis between January 1, 1970, and December 31, 1986; an age of less than 21 years at diagnosis; and survival for at least 5 years after the date of diagnosis. The institutional review board at each participating center reviewed and approved the CCSS protocol and documents sent to participants. All study participants provided written informed consent for participation in the study and for the release of medical-record information. A detailed description of the study design and characteristics of the cohort was reported previously.11 The questionnaire that was administered to all participants at baseline and the treatment abstraction form are available at www.cancer.umn.edu/research/ltfu/ccssquestionnaires.html and in Section A of the Supplementary Appendix, available with the full text of this article at www.nejm.org.
Of the 20,720 survivors of childhood cancer in the cohort, 3017 (14.6%) were lost to follow-up after extensive efforts failed to locate them. Among the remaining 17,703 subjects, 14,372 (81.2%), including 10,397 who were 18 years of age or older at the time they were interviewed, completed the baseline questionnaire. To determine the potential for introducing bias into the studied cohort, we previously compared demographic and cancer-related characteristics among participants, nonparticipants, and those who were lost to follow-up. We found that these three groups were similar with regard to sex, the type of cancer, the age at diagnosis, the age at which they were asked to participate in the study (or for those lost to follow-up, the age at which the cohort was assembled), and the type of cancer treatment.11,12
To allow for comparisons with a population that had not been treated for cancer, we asked a random sample of participating survivors to identify a nearest-age living sibling. Of 4782 eligible siblings, 3846 (80.4%) participated; of these, 3034 were 18 years of age or older.
Cancer Treatment Information
We obtained information on the original cancer diagnosis from the treating institution. For the 12,752 participants who returned a signed medical release, the information on cancer therapy included their initial treatment, treatment for any relapse, and preparatory regimens for bone marrow transplantation (if applicable). Data regarding exposure to 42 chemotherapeutic agents (either yes or no) were abstracted from the medical record; cumulative doses were abstracted for 22 of these agents. Data were also obtained on surgical procedures performed for cancer treatment at any time from the date of diagnosis onward, as well as on the site of the tumor and on fields and doses of radiation therapy. (See Sections B through D in the Supplementary Appendix for details concerning these treatments.)
Health Condition Outcomes
At enrollment, survivors and siblings completed a 289-item questionnaire that included questions regarding their physical health conditions, including their age at the onset of the condition. All second cancers that were ascertained from a participant or a physician's report were verified by a review of pathology reports performed by Dr. S. Hammond at the CCSS Pathology Center in Columbus, OH.
To determine the severity of the conditions, scoring was based on the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (version 3), a scoring system developed through the National Cancer Institute by a multidisciplinary group and intended for use in scoring both acute and chronic conditions in patients with cancer and survivors of all ages.13 The system grades conditions as mild (grade 1), moderate (grade 2), severe (grade 3), life-threatening or disabling (grade 4), or fatal (grade 5). For our study, a total of 137 health conditions were scored. As specified in the scoring system, when a particular condition was not listed, it was entered in the “Other, specify” category according to the organ system affected. If there was not enough information to distinguish between grades, the lower score was selected. Adverse psychosocial outcomes, including depression and anxiety disorder, were not included in this analysis. Before data analysis, all the authors agreed on all scores.
The same scoring system was used to grade the conditions of siblings. However, because the design of the study included only living siblings at the time of study entry, there were no siblings with a grade 5 (fatal) condition.
Statistical Analysis
We determined the prevalence of chronic conditions among survivors and siblings. Three primary outcomes were assessed: any condition (grades 1 through 4), severe or life-threatening conditions (grade 3 or 4), and multiple conditions (≥2). For participants who had more than one condition, the maximum grade was used. For deceased survivors, the maximum grade of a condition reported before death was used for comparisons with siblings. For example, if a survivor died of a myocardial infarction, the grade for myocardial infarction (grade 4) was used rather than the grade for a fatal condition (grade 5). Hazard ratios were estimated with the use of Cox regression and are reported as relative risks with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Comparisons between survivors and siblings were adjusted for the age at enrollment, sex, and race or ethnic group. The analysis accounted for within-family correlations with the use of sandwich standard-error estimates.14 The risk associated with treatment with radiation and chemotherapy agents was analyzed with the use of specific classes of chemotherapeutic agents and according to specific anatomical sites of radiation therapy.
Cumulative incidence rates for each of the primary outcomes were calculated for the survivors, with death treated as a competing risk according to the method described by Gooley et al.15 Cumulative incidence rates for siblings were not calculated because the design of the study included only living siblings at the time of study entry.
The starting point for both survivors and siblings was 5 years after the date of diagnosis of cancer. If the date of onset of an irreversible condition, such as blindness, occurred within the first 5 years after the date of diagnosis, the condition was considered to be present 5 years after diagnosis; for the purposes of analysis, the onset date was shifted forward to that time point. Data were analyzed with SAS software, version 9.0 (SAS Institute).

<atom10:link xmlns:atom10="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom" rel="enclosure" href="http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/blogspot/aTStr/~5/k5637HsiAyU/" length="0" /><feedburner:origEnclosureLink>http://clixzing.com/?ref=mitch92021</feedburner:origEnclosureLink>

Chronic Health Conditions in Adult Survivors of Childhood Cancer — NEJM

44 Useful Mobile Apps for Social Media Marketers

By Debbie Hemley
Published August 3, 2011

Are you spending more time each day using your smartphone or iPad? Looking for some cool apps to simplify your work and life?

According to a recent study by Flurry, consumers spent 81 minutes per day using mobile apps, compared to 74 minutes of web surfing. Here’s where it gets even more interesting. Social networking is one of two categories that dominate mobile app usage with 32% and games are responsible for 47%.

In Search of Apps
As a social media marketer, you’ll likely want to find apps that will help you keep up with social networking and stay productive while on the go. Many of us hear about apps from friends and colleagues, from articles we read, from searching around on Apple’s App Store to see what’s new and through dedicated search engines such as Chomp.

Apps to help manage your time, projects and clients.
If the app is free or relatively inexpensive, then chances are we may be willing to give it a whirl. But with 500,000 apps on the App Store in numerous categories and apps literally being released every day, it’s hard to stay on top of them.

While Apple’s campaign “There’s an app for that” makes many of us now associate the topic of mobile apps with Apple, the reality is that companies such as Android, Nokia, Blackberry, and Palm all sell apps, too.

In this article, I’m going to focus on apps that are compatible with iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad (iOS) because those are the devices I’m most familiar with and could access for the purpose of testing.

Useful Apps List
The apps listed below were recommended by a number of businesspeople through a query I posted on HARO, others that people had been talking about in blog posts, on Quora and social networking sites. The apps range in price; many are free and the most expensive one listed is $9.99.

Because new apps are literally released on a daily basis, it’s nearly impossible for this to be a conclusive list. But hopefully it’ll give you ideas about some apps you’d like to try. I hope you’ll take a few moments at the end to share a few of your favorites, too.

Here’s the list in alphabetical order:

#1: Analytics App
Analytics App consists of 55 reports, showing data up to 110 rows. You can check your analytics on the go. Never be away from your data again!

Compatible with iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. Requires iOS 3.0 or later.
#2: Battery Pro
by Roby Mitchell on Sunday, August 21, 2011 at 3:13pm
Most men and even most Drs don't associate erectile dysfunction with blood vessel disease. Healthy blood vessels producing lots of nitric oxide is critical to maintaining normal blood pressure and maintaining an erection. Nitric oxide is produced by cells lining the arteries. Nitric oxide causes relaxation of smooth muscles in artery walls causing an increase in blood vessel diameter. Wider blood vessels allow more blood flow without an increase in blood pressure. If these cells reduce their production of nitric acid, blood vessels stay constricted like a pinched water hose and blood pressure is increased.
When men have a sexual thought, increased blood flow through penal arteries should stimulate production of nitric acid. This allows even heavier blood flow into these arteries. This increased swelling closes outflow valves and keeps blood from escaping. This is the fundamental process that allows an erection. Very similar to filling a tire inner tube.
Nitric oxide does not last long in the blood stream. It gets broken down by enzymes. A continuous supply of nitric oxide has to be produced in order to maintain an erection. An initial erection followed deflation indicates incompetence of artery cells in producing nitric oxide. The same incompetence that causes this failure in penile arteries causes it in arteries all over the body including the heart and brain.
Medications such as Viagra and Cialis inhibit the enzyme that breaks down nitric oxide. This allows nitric oxide to stay around longer and facilitate a sustained erection. I'm not against use of these for the short term. The ability to sustain an erection is critical to a man's sense of self esteem. However,I caution men and their partners, that these medications don't address the underlying cause.
In order to restore normal ability of cells to produce nitric oxide, men have to change eating habits, restore hormones that are low such as DHEA,testosterone, and thyroid;and bring down the level of blood vessel Toximation.
Toximation is the combination of inflammation, oxidation, and toxin build-up that compromises the health of blood vessel and other cells. Toximation happens as the level of fungi, bacteria and other microbes rise and the immune system goes to war with them. The higher your blood sugar, the more yeast and other microbes wil be in your blood vessels. This is why erectile dysfunction is very common in diabetics. Certain plant chemicals like the ones in Male Formula kill these germs in the penile blood vessels. This allows for reversal of Toximation and improved production of nitric oxide.
Erection function is a primary indicator of overall health. A man should be capable of sustaining erections sufficient for sexual intercourse 3 times/week. More is better. Researchers document that longevity is predicted by a man's frequency of sexual activity.
Certain plant extracts kill microbes in the arteries. This allows cells to regain their health and start producing nitric oxide again
DHEA is a hormone produced by the adrenal glands that the body can use to make testosterone. I recommend getting it in capsules, opening the capsules and placing the DHEA under the tongue for maximum absorption
Thyroid hormone controls the volume of blood your heart is able to pump and the ability of cells to produce nitric oxide. Ideally, thyroid replacement should be done under the guidance of a health care professional. Blood test do not detect low thyroid levels until they become drastically low.
What you eat determines how well microbes can grow in your blood stream. Eating foods from my BALi Eating plan keeps the level of sugar, yeast, and other microbes at low levels in the blood stream.
The Slim-o-Nade juice recipe I will introduce at the Amarillo health Initiative is better than liquid Viagra.
D'Borah and I thank you very much for taking a few
moments of your valuable time to help us get this service project communication right. In 2008 I was hospitalized
with a failing heart, kidney and immune system. Upon being diagnosed with Stage 3 Prostate Cancer, my doctor
at the time suggested, based on the information before him, that I had only a few months to live. Fortunately, G-d
had another plan and treatment alternatives were made available. We have a not-for-profit website, which tells our
story and shares important Prostate Cancer information. We intend to take this service project message to a huge
data base of supporters within the not-for-profit and at large community. We would appreciate your review of the
simplistic and economic approach we are taking in our conversation about Prostate Cancer.
Our website is www.bekind09.bbnow.org please feel free to reply to this email at bekind09@gmail.com and
PLEASE support our service project effort by purchasing a Samaritan Savers Card. Again we thank you in advance
for your anticipated help and co-operation.

Should women get PAP Smears?

You may believe that Dr's make their medical decisions based on current medical literature and what is best for the patient. You are wrong. And you could be literally dead wrong. Few Drs have the inclination, economic incentive,or time to objectively read medical journals. Drs get most of their medical information from drug reps and drug company sponsored lectures. Medicine is a business and it is run as such. Medical decisions,as other business decisions are based on the company's bottom line.
Every company has "bread and butter" activities-routine sales that generate profit. In medicine "routine" tests and screenings generate huge profits for hospitals and Dr's offices. Drs order "routine" blood work and X-rays before they ever see a patient. The majority of the test are unnecessary and would not be ordered by a thinking physician. Any radiologist will tell you that most of the X-rays,CT scans,MRI's etc they read are boringly normal because Drs don't don't examine patients adequately enough to assess whether these test will have a high yield. Similarly, most "routine" blood work is useless except that it generates huge profits.
For gynecologists,a "bread and butter" procedure is the annual PAP smear. This is done by putting the woman in the most undignified of positions, inserting an instrument into her vagina and scraping cells from her cervix to be examined under the microscope by a pathologist. Since its introduction, the incidence of death from cervical cancer took a steady decline and then leveled off. During that time it has been found that the biggest risk factor for the development of cervical cancer is the presence of specific strains the HPV virus. We(those of us who read) have have known for several years that a simple blood test(which can be ordered by your family practitioner,PA,or nurse practitioner) for these viruses is a better predictor of who will get cervical cancer than the humiliating experience of a PAP smear. At one point this indignity was justified as it saved lives. That is no longer the case.
Most likely,if you're a woman who sees a gynecologist, you are still advised to get an annual PAP smear. Why? Not because that is what the current medical literature says should be done, but because that is a "bread and butter" procedure for gynecologists. Many women don't have a family doctor and only see a gynecologist. If that is your situation, request HPV testing rather than a PAP smear. If that test is positive, then you need to follow through with the PAP smear. If the Dr does not consent to HPV testing, find a Dr who does.
