Oscars 2013: Best Dressed

While the big debate this year was whether Seth MacFarlane took it too far (for the record, I didn't think so - it's comedy people - RELAX!), for the fashion-hungry among us, it's the red carpet that's up for discussion. Did Jen opt for something not form-fitting because she was trying to hide a baby bump? Was Anne Hathaway's Prada disaster really a last-minute decision because she almost wore the same Valentino gown as Amanda Seyfried? Hosting duties aside, these are the questions that will fill the gossip rags next week. Who wore what, who looked amazing and who, sadly, missed the mark.

Here are the two dresses that stood out for me:

Say what you will about Jen but her classic style almost never misses the mark. I know people complain that she should've put her hair up or mixed it up a bit. But, with that amazing hair and to-die-for perfect blonde color - why should she? This dress might not have wowed everyone on the red carpet but backstage and on TV, it looked incredible. It highlighted her tiny waist (what baby bump?) and the classic Valentino red shade was a refreshing change of pace from her usual black.

The belle of the ball was certainly Jennifer Lawrence. Not only did she kill it on the carpet - loved the cotton candy Dior Haute Couture dress and the stunning Chopard diamond necklace worn backwards - and win an Oscar, she gave a candid acceptance speech and even better interviews backstage and on the party circuit. Her honesty is refreshing in a world full of make-believe. Best-dressed (and spoken) of the night.

The leaves have changed and winter's brisk air is on its way. If you're like me, a part of you is longing for the light-filled days of summer and will to do just about anything to grasp on to its last breaths.

Haute Hair During a Heatwave

It's hard to feel good when your hair is frizzy or flat. I don't ever feel like I look polished unless my hair is done and to be honest, mostly it has to be done by a professional for me to REALLY love it. Add the summer heat and humidity into the mix, and my already lazy attitude towards styling my locks gets even worse. Who wants to spend their time under the heat of blow dryer when it's a million degrees out? Definitely not me. I can barely stand to blow dry my hair on a frigid day in the winter. I usually get bored halfway through and end up with half-curly, half-straight strands that end up destined for a ponytail or a sock bun.

I find it hard to look at these photos of Blake Lively without my jaw-dropping. She looks incredible on the red carpet in a Zuhair Murad gown for the premiere of the Savages. And what is even more impressive - she put it together stylist-free.

A refreshing take on the typical A-lister, Blake with her killer body and impressive instinct for style is giving a clinic on Hollywood Glamour. I can't wait to see what she wears next and I hope other celebs follow suit.

Best Dressed: Met Gala

The Met Gala is a big night on the fashion and beauty calendar. This year, on May 7th, the glitterati didn't disappoint as they walked the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

Here are my faves of the night:

January Jones

In a canary Versace dress, January looks stunning and is my best dressed of the night.

Carey Mulligan

Dressed in Prada, Carey looks beautiful in silver and gold paillettes.

Emma Stone

Emma looks candy apple sweet in Lanvin and I love her imperfect strawberry blonde locks.

Gwyneth Paltrow

Admittedly, I have a soft spot for GP, but can you blame me? Her body just keeps getting better with age and her couture choices are never boring. This silver-toned dress by Prada is another winner.

Kirsten Dunst

Worst dressed for me? Kirsten Dunst. What was she thinking in this Rodarte number?

While the red carpet show was fun, the event celebrates the opening of the Met's latest fashion exhibition: Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations. The exhibit explores the striking affinities between Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada, two Italian designers from different eras.
