San Diego State Week: Visitor Updates

2013-09-08T18:25:00.001-07:00

Conrad is Ohio's Best tight end in the '15 class

I will keep this post updated as visitor reaction from this weekend's victory over San Diego State pours in. I'll have more in depth information later this week.

2014 visitors:

OT Kyle Trout, Lancaster (OH):

Trout, who many consider the leader of the 2014 class made his first of what should be many trips to Columbus to take in a Buckeye game. Here's what he had to say about his experience.

Visit: "I hung out with Kyle Berger and watched the game. That's pretty much all I did."
Thoughts on game: "It was really cool," he said. "The offensive line was moving people and controlling the game."

2015 visitors:

WR Charlie Fessler, Ernie (PA) Cathedral Prep:

The 6-foot-3-inch wide receiver made his first trip to Columbus today. While he doesn't hold any offers right now, he is drawing a significant amount of interest from colleges. Here are a few things he had to say about this visit.

Visit: "It was a great day and great experience overall," he said. "I look forward to developing a stronger relationship with the coaching staff."
Coaches: "I spoke with coach smith, coach warinner, and Mark Pantoni," he continued. "We talked about last night's game and developing a better relationship."
Game experience: "It was good. I loved the atmosphere and I really like Ohio State's offense."

TE CJ Conrad, Lagrange (OH) Keystone:

The rising tight end prospect (pictured above) made the trip to Columbus to watch this weekend's game. Here's what he had to say about the visit.

Visit: "It went great," he continued. "I got to talk to Coach Drayton and Coach Hinton. They are both excited about me and are just trying to build a great relationship with me."
Game experience: "It was awesome," he said. "I loved the tempo of the offense and how they used their tight end.

LB Anthony McKee, Columbus (OH) Walnut Ridge:

The Columbus native has started to pick up some big offers from schools like Tennessee, Kentucky, Arkansas, West Virginia, and a couple of others. He was in attendance for the San Diego State game last night. Here are a few things he had to say about his visit.

Visit: "The OSU visit was big time! The Shoe' is something everything has to see, the fan base is crazy, the education is good, and the campus is nice," he continued. "It's an all-around good school."
Coaches: "I got to talk to coach Fickell. He told me they like way I play. They especially like my speed."
Potential offer: "I'm just going to keep going hard for whatever comes my way," he said. "When it's time, I'll be ready."
Game experience: "I thought it was okay. Ohio State is a really solid team."

This thread will be updated as more visit reaction comes in

San Diego State Visit Primer

2013-09-05T22:56:00.002-07:00

There will be a couple of big name prospects on hand to watch the Buckeyes take on San Diego State this Saturday at 3:30.

2014 visitors:

ATH Noah Brown, Sparta (NJ) Pope John XXIII: The biggest visitor for this weekend if definitely Noah Brown, who could very well be the next member of Ohio State's 2013 recruiting class. The staff will try to close the deal for the star athlete this weekend. He will probably be a receiver if he decides to play for the Buckeyes.

OT Kyle Trout, Lancaster (OH): This is one of many games Trout will attend at Ohio Stadium this weekend. He is one of the leaders for the 2014 recruiting class and will be doing his best to recruit top un-committed prospects to OSU.

K Sean Nuernberger, Buckner (KY) Oldham County: After going 3/4 on field goals Friday night, including a successful attempt from 65 yards in overtime, Nuernberger will make the trek to Columbus for the second consecutive week. He'll join Kyle Trout in trying to recruit prospects to Ohio State.

2015 visitors:

WR Charlie Fessler, Ernie (PA) Cathedral Prep: He doesn't any any offers to date, but it's still very early in the process. If he had a successful 2013 season, the Buckeyes and other top colleges will show increased interest in the 6-foot-3-inch wide receiver.

TE CJ Conrad, Lagrange (OH) Keystone: This is a name to watch over the 2013 football season. The 6-foot-5-inch, 225 pound tight end already has offers from the likes of Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, and Toledo. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the Bucks offered him this year.

LB Anthony McKee, Columbus (OH) Walnut Ridge: He has early offers from Arkansas, Illinois, Tennessee, West Virginia, and others. Ohio State hasn't expressed too much interest yet, but I expect things to pick up soon as he is one of Ohio's top linebackers in the 2015 class.

ATH Eric Glover-Williams, Canton (OH) McKinley: The lone 2015 commit will be on campus for the first time since committing a little over a week ago. He plays quarterback in high school, but will probably end up at running back or wide receiver in college.

2017 visitors:

QB Danny Clark, Massillon (OH) Washington: The 6-foot-3-inch signal caller will be in Columbus this weekend after leading the Tigers to a 24-21 victory over Glen Oak in his first career start Thursday night. He's only a freshmen, but he could be an elite quarterback recruit if he continues to improve over the next couple of years. He grew up rooting for the Scarlet and Gray.

Thank You!

Readers,

We would both like to thank you all for reading our work the past couple of months. Neither of us thought this blog/site would grow at such a rapid rate. We are both excited to announce we will be joining the recruiting team at 11 Warriors effective immediately. Both of us are extremely excited for this new opportunity, and hope you will read our work over at 11W. We plan on keeping this site up in case anyone wants to check out some of our old updates. Once again, none of this could have been accomplished without each, and every one of you, as well as the prospects who were nice enough to take their time to chat with us. Thanks again! Go Bucks!

Introduction to 2014 Caleb Henderson

2012-06-22T01:36:00.001-07:00

With it looking more, and more like the Buckeyes will only take one quarterback in the 2013 class, Witchita Falls (TX) signal-caller, J.T. Barrett, it's time to turn our attention to potential 2014 targets. One of the top quarterback targets for the class of 2014 is Burke (VA) Lake Braddock Secondary high school star, Caleb Henderson. Henderson threw for 2,700 yards, threw 27 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions his sophomore year, while rushing for 600 yards. Keep reading to find out when Caleb will be camping at Ohio State, what he wants to see on said visit, and more! Keep checking back for updates on top 2014 signal-caller, Caleb Henderson, as we will be keeping in touch throughout his recruitment.

Offers: Virginia Tech, Virginia, Maryland, Rutgers, Illinois, Marshall, and Old Dominion,
Other teams showing interest: Ohio State, Oregon, Tennessee, South Carolina, Texas, Nebraska, Colorado, and Wisconsin.
Camp plans: "I camp at Michigan State tomorrow (yesterday), and if that goes well, I'll stay the night, and camp again. If I don't decide to camp at Michigan State, I'll be camping at Michigan the next day (today). Then I'll be camping at Ohio State on Friday."
Ohio State interest: "Coach Herman, their quarterbacks coach, came to one of my spring practices, and invited me to their camp."
Schools standing out: "Definitely Ohio State, but the more visits I take, the more all the schools seem to be the same, I like all the schools that have offered, and those that are showing interest."
Timetable: "I want to make my decision kind of quickly. If I make an early decision, everything will calm down a bit, so I'll be able to focus on my junior, and senior seasons. I want to commit pretty early."
Strengths: "The strongest part of the game, I feel are my feet. I was running in the high 4.7's this past season, and I think I can get that down to high-low 4.6's in the near future."
Areas he would like to improve: "My speed, you can always improve in that area. I think I can get to high 4.6's. I feel my throwing is pretty on point right now, but I can improve there as well."
Goals: "My goal is to win districts, and our region. If we accomplish those goals, I want to do well at states."

Delando Johnson Update

2012-06-18T11:48:00.003-07:00

The Buckeyes are still looking at multiple defenders that can play all over the field in the 2013 class. A couple of the bigger names are guys like Lewis Neal, Tyquan Lewis, Marcus Ball, and Darron Lee. One name Buckeye fans need to keep an eye on is Towson (MD) Calvert Hall, athlete Delando Johnson, who camped at Ohio State June 10th. Johnson is a name that has flown under the recruiting radar, and was recently rated a 4 star prospect by 24/7 Sports. Keep reading to find out how Johnson's camp experience went, when he will visit again, and more! Keep checking back for updates on rising 2013 athlete Delando Johnson, as we will be talking again after he visits.

Offers: Wake Forrest, Illinois, Boston College, East Carolina, Buffalo, Toledo, and Ohio.
Camp: "Going into camp, I wasn't very high on Ohio State's recruiting board, but I killed the camp. I worked out well at safety, in front of Urban Meyer, and also worked out at wide receiver, and did well there too."
Potential offer: "I talked to Coach Meyer, and he told me I was a beast. Coach Coombs will be keeping in touch with me too. I think they'll offer eventually, I think they want to build a relationship with me before they do."
Visit: "I got to see some of the campus, and I really liked it. I'm going to be back to Columbus Thursday with some underclassmen, and may camp again Saturday. On the visit, I want to check out the school more in-depth, and get to meet some of the current players."
If OSU offers: "I might commit."
Timetable (if no OSU offer): Signing day.
Leaders: "Of schools that have offered, I really like Wake, Illinois, and also ECU a lot. I don't really have any leaders though, I like all of my offers."
Factors:"A big program, with cool coaches, like Coach Meyer, and the Ohio State staff."
Near offers: "In addition to Ohio State, I think Penn State, and West Virginia may offer me soon."
Position: "Ohio State is looking at me as a strong safety right now, I may even play a little linebacker."
Strengths: Ball hawk/aggressive.
Improvements: Bigger, stronger, and faster.
Goals: "I've already accomplished most of the individual goals I had set, like getting offers from division I schools. Senior year, I want to win state, and be a leader for the underclassmen."

Introduction to 2014 RB Mikale Wilbon

2012-06-18T10:38:00.000-07:00

With Derrick Green and Taquan Mizzell the only realistic targets left at the running back position in the 2013 class, it's time to take a look ahead to potential targets in the 2014 class. One potential target in the class is Chicago (IL) De La Salle running back, Mikale Wilbon. Wilbon is teammates with 2014 offensive tackle, Jamarco Jones, who the Buckeyes have already offered. Wilbon has yet to receive an offer from the Buckeyes, but one could be coming in the future, as Wilbon impressed the coaching staff at camp June 10th. Keep reading to find out how camp went for Mikale, his interest in Ohio State, and more! Keep checking back for updates on rising 2014 running back, Mikale Wilbon, as I will be in touch with him throughout his recruitment.

Recruitment: "It's going good. School ended a couple of weeks ago, so I'm going to have the chance to visit schools over the summer. A lot of coaches were at my school during the evaluation period, which was cool."
Teams interested: "There are a lot of schools showing interest right now. The main ones are Ohio State, Illinois, and Michigan State. I would really like to hear from Michigan, but I haven't heard from them yet."
Camp: "I did really good. I ran a 4.48 in the 40, which impressed Coach Drayton, he told me I had really good explosion. The told me they were going to start recruiting me, I gave Coach Vrabel my number, and I got his as well, so we're going to be in touch."
Visit?: "Coach Vrabel was going to give me a tour of campus, but I had already left Columbus. I plan on getting back to Columbus to check campus out as soon as I can."
Upcoming visits: "I plan on camping at Michigan State (camped there this past weekend), and Illinois soon. I'm also going to the National Underclassmen Combine in July."
No leaders.
Timetable: "Not soon, probably sometime during my senior season. I still have to think about, and see a lot of schools before I could even think about a decision."
Strengths: Speed, and elusiveness.
Goals: "My one goal would be to win a state championship. It doesn't matter what I do individually, as long as we win state."

Introduction to 2014 OL Jamarco Jones

2012-06-17T22:40:00.001-07:00

With the Buckeyes losing out on many of their top 2013 offensive line targets, look for it to be the priority of the 2014 class. One of the top targets in 2014 is Chicago (IL) De La Salle offensive tackle, Jamarco Jones, who recently camped, and received an offer from the Buckeyes. The early offer the Buckeyes came in with definitely puts them firmly in the mix for Jamarco's services. Read on to find out how Jamarco's visit went, where the Buckeyes stand on Jamarco's list, and more! Keep checking back for updates on rising 2014 offensive tackle, Jamarco Jones, as we will be in touch throughout his recruitment.

Offers: Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Illinois, Vanderbilt, and Toledo.
Recruitment: "Just a few months ago, I wasn't getting a ton of interest. Now things have really started to pick up. I need to stay humble, and focused throughout the process."
Camp: "It went really well. There were a lot of good players at the camp, and I think I performed well against them."
Visit: "I got to see the campus in general when I was there. There was a little bit of construction going on, but I was able to get a feel for the campus. It was really nice."
Offer: "I had a question for the coaches, so I called them on my way back home, and it was then they offered me."
Interest: "I'm very interested in Ohio State, they have a nice campus, and a great football
tradition."
Other visits: "I went to Michigan, and Michigan State this past weekend. Both of those visits went well, and they both offered me."
Leaders: "I don't really have any leaders right now, I'm just trying to get a feel for all of the schools interested in me. I'll have leaders later on, just not yet."
Factors: "Academics, football program, and somewhere I feel at home. Proximity to home will not be a very big factor for me."
Timetable: "Probably sometime during my senior season, I don't have a set timetable right now. It will be when one school feels like it's the right place for me."
Strengths: Pass blocking.
Improvements: Run blocking, and strength.
Goals: "As a team, our goal would of course be to win a state title. I'm not really in to the individual accolades."

Last weekend's Ohio State camp

2012-06-16T09:44:00.000-07:00

Last Sunday I attended the Ohio State one day senior advanced camp. I was unable to stay for the duration because of a personal matter but I was able to see a good portion of the camp. Lots of studs were in attendance which included the likes of Tyquan Lewis, Vonn Bell, Darron Lee, Caleb Day, Christian Morris, Lovell Peterson, Kyle Meadows, and others.

Tyquan Lewis - Lewis definitely looked the part. A very physically imposing player that also had the speed to go along with his size. Lewis and Pantoni seemed to have a great relationship. Lewis was definitely a man amongst boys among his position group. He definitely impressed me. The Buckeyes would be getting a great player if he joined the class of 2013.

Vonn Bell - Vonn Bell to me was the best prospect out there at the camp. He is very quick and had great feet in the football drills. Urban Meyer showed up to the camp for a short bit and exchanged a few words with Bell. Urban at one point asked Coach Everett Withers how Bell performed. Bell and Darron Lee seemed to have a great relationship and competed against each other in many of the drills. Bell won most but Darron Lee held his own. Bell seemed to really be enjoying his day at camp.

Darron Lee - Lee was the one player that really struck me as a guy that stood out at the camp that was a bit under the radar heading into the camp. Marc Givler reported some of his testing numbers which were very solid. Lee competed very well throughout the camp and definitely looked OSU material to me. An offer has not fell into Lee's laps yet but it wouldn't surprise me if it did. Meyer also spoke briefly to Lee.

Caleb Day - Day seemed like he had put on more weight when I saw him at the camp and had not lost any of his speed and athletic ability. Day at one point was a fast rising prospect but it seemed as if his stock was beginning to slip. Day's camp performance at OSU certainly had to improve his stock as a prospect. He is camping at Michigan monday.

Christian Morris - Morris was definitely the most physically imposing player amongst the offensive line group. Morris is just a massive player. I wonder if he's the type of offensive lineman that OSU is looking for because he is molded differently, but he should be a solid player at the next level for some team. That team will be getting a good one in Morris.

Lovell Peterson - I think if he gets an Ohio State offer he will be a Buckeye. I don't know how much Ohio State wants an interior offensive lineman though. He performed well at camp and seemed to be in tip-top shape again. He is definitely back to where he needs to be. It remains to be seen how Peterson's recruitment will shake out. A lot of that could depend on the numbers crunch for Ohio State.

Kyle Meadows - I think Meadows is the best offensive tackle prospect left in Ohio and certainly fits the mold of what the Buckeye coaching staff is looking for. He is a very smooth and quick lineman for his size and definitely impressed at the camp. If an in-state offensive lineman gets an offer I would expect it to be Meadows.

I also saw Josh Perry at the Ohio State camp taking in the action. He is a lot bigger than I remember and I overheard him saying he is pushing 240 pounds now while still maintaining if not improving his speed and strength. I think Perry can be a huge asset for the Buckeyes for the years to come.

Furthermore, I know a lot of you were wondering about Vonn Bell and Tyquan Lewis. I can tell you from what I saw the stay in Columbus couldn't have done anything but help Ohio State's chances with the two starts in the class of 2013. A lot can happen between now and their decision date but Ohio State seems to be right in the thick of it for both of the tremendous athletes.

Reggie Spearman Update

2012-06-15T22:59:00.001-07:00

A Buckeye linebacker class that once had two committed linebackers, currently sits at zero due to two de-commits. Many of the players the Buckeyes have offered have went elsewhere, or are leaning elsewhere. This has lead to many new names popping up on the Buckeyes' recruiting radar. One new name fans need to keep an eye on is Chicago (IL) Simeon linebacker, Reggie Spearman. Spearman has yet to receive an offer from the Buckeyes, but an offer could be forthcoming. Reggie, and I chatted about his interest in Ohio State, his upcoming visit, and more! Keep checking back for updates on rising 2013 linebacker Reggie Spearman, as we will be in touch throughout his recruitment.

Recruitment: "It's going great right now. I currently have 10 offers, and am hoping number 11 comes soon."
Ohio State visit: "I'm visiting there Wednesday. I'm looking forward to speaking with the coaches, and getting a feel for the place."
What OSU is telling him: "They've been telling me a lot of good things. I can't wait to get down there to talk with them."
If Ohio State offers: "It would be great, and is definitely something I would have to take a hard look at before I make my decision.
Being recruited by Coach Vrabel, and has also talked to Coach Meyer.
Top 5 (no order): Ohio State, Iowa State, Illinois, Minnesota, and Houston.
Factors: "Definitely the depth chart, overall roster, and the school I go to needs to feel like home."
Timetable: "I will probably decide either before the season, or during the season."
Relationships with other talents at Simeon High: "It was great being around guys like Jordan (Diamond), and Rob (Gregory). They have both helped me a lot in the recruiting process, and have told me not to decide too fast, make sure I weigh all my options, and pick the school that is perfect for me. (#1 rated basketball player) Jabari Parker is one of my best friends, we hang out a lot, he's a great guy."
Goals: "My goal has always been the same, it's to win a state championship next year to go out on top."

Introduction to 2014 TE/DE Garrett Dickerson

2012-06-15T10:11:00.001-07:00

The Buckeyes are looking at many tight end prospects in the 2014 class, as they will only be taking one in the class of 2013. One of the main targets is Oradell (NJ) Bergen Catholic TE/DE, Garrett Dickerson. Dickerson has already received a 4 star designation by 24/7 sports, checking in as the number 55 player overall in the 24/7 class. Dickerson is mainly being recruited as a defensive linemen, but the Buckeyes decided to offer him at tight end, a position Dickerson also plays in high school. Garrett and I chatted about his interest in Ohio State and more! Keep checking back for updates on Garrett, as we will be keeping in touch throughout his recruitment.

Holds early offers from Ohio State, UConn, Northwestern, Syracuse, and Toledo.
Other interests: Stanford, Alabama, Michigan, Michigan State Georgia, and a couple of other schools.
Ohio State offer: "Coach Warriner called my coach, and told him they were offering me. Ohio State was at my school the day before they offered."
Interest: "I really like Ohio State. They're a school that has a good combo of athletics, and academics."
Won't be camping anywhere, but wants to visit Ohio State, and Alabama this summer.
Position in college: "Ohio State offered me at tight end, and Northwestern offered me at defensive end. Most schools are recruiting me to be a defensive end, but I have no preference, I like both the same. On offense, I get to catch the ball, and scores touchdowns. On defense, I get to sack the quarterback."
Timetable: "I'm not sure. I'm trying to make sure my team is set before I start focusing on college. I put my team first."
Factors: "Definitely a close knit team, with good, family oriented people. Academics are also very important, my family always stresses that football eventual end, and you need a good education."
Goal: "Win a state championship."

Recruiting Notes: Alex Anzalone Update

2012-06-13T23:34:00.001-07:00

By now almost everyone knows the situation with Reading (PA) linebacker, Alex Anzalone. There is no need to re-tell the story the occurred about six weeks ago. The only thing of importance is the fact that Anzalone is still considering the Buckeyes, and the Buckeyes are still very interested in Anzalone. I exchanged a couple of messages with Alex to see where his recruitment stands.

Visiting Notre Dame today (6/14), he will only be there for a day.
Alex visit Ohio State on the way home from Notre Dame. He told me, "We're going to try our best to get there." He also added they'd need to leave Notre Dame early Friday morning for this to happen.
Alex has already been on campus three times, so there is not much left for him to see. So why is he visiting again? "I want to talk to the coaches in person," Anzalone told me.
Other visits this month: "We leave for Florida Saturday to see my grandparents. While I'm there, I'll be going to a one day camp."
Alex no longer has plans to visit Alabama, meaning he's down to six schools (no order): Florida, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Penn State, Stanford, and USC.
Still isn't close to making a decision. The plan is to take official visits.
Still frequently talks to Buckeye coaches.

Anzalone definitely still interested in the Buckeyes. He has to like something about the school, he was at one time a commit. Getting Anzalone on campus Friday, even for a short amount of time would be huge in the Buckeyes' chances in getting Alex to re-commit. Stay tuned, I'll let everyone know once he has decided to visit/not visit.

Christian Morris Update

2012-06-13T22:08:00.001-07:00

This past weekend, many of the top linemen in Ohio who have yet to receive an offer from the Buckeyes camped at Ohio State. There was one offensive tackle not from Ohio who stood out at the camp however. Memphis (TN) East offensive tackle Christian Morris was one of the top linemen at camp, and he believes he could soon earn an offer from the Buckeyes. Morris has already complied an impressive offer list which includes offers from UCLA, Nebraska, Tennessee, USC, Clemson, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and others. I could up with Christian to check in on his interest in the Buckeyes, his camp performance, and more! Keep checking back for updates on Tennessee native offensive tackle, Christian Morris, as we will be in touch throughout his recruitment.

Camp: "I think I did great, there was a lot of competition there, but I think I did really well."
Potential offer: "Basically the coaches told me they were going to meet this week to talk things over, and told me to call them later in the week, which is when I think I'll hear whether they're going to offer, or not."
If OSU offers: "I already have Ohio State really high on my list, so if they offered, they would still be very high on my list."
Top 7: UCLA, Tennessee, Clemson, Nebraska, Mississippi State, Alabama (no offer), and Ohio State (no offer).
Summer visits: "I just camped at Ohio State, and have already visited Alabama. I recently visited Tennessee. Also I'm planning on getting out to UCLA on the 28th. Nebraska, and Vanderbilt are the others schools I'll be visiting this summer.
Timetable: "I will take all five of my official visits, and decide after the season."
Plans on taking officials to Tennessee, UCLA, Nebraska. Needs two more, and will take one to Ohio State if they offer.
Didn't get to see the campus/take a tour while at Ohio State camp.
Factors: "I want to go to a school I could see myself at. Also the coaching staff, and style of play will be important."
Position: "All schools see me at tackle, except for Nebraska, they think I can play tackle, or guard. It doesn't really matter to me what position I play."
Goals: "I want to be the best player I can be. More importantly, I want to win a state title next year.

Matt Miller Update

2012-06-12T10:42:00.000-07:00

Early this morning, I posted an update on Sean Welsh, who may receive an offer from the Buckeyes today. Welsh was just one of many offensive linemen who have a good chance of receiving an offer from the Buckeyes. Another offensive linemen in line to receive a potential offer is Toledo St. John's Jesuit (OH) offensive guard/defensive end, Matt Miller. Most big ten schools like Miller on the offensive like, specifically at guard, while most big east schools like Miller on the defensive side of the ball. Matt and I talked about his recent camp performance at Ohio State, a potential Buckeye offer, and more! Keep checking back for updates on Matt, as I will be in touch with him throughout his recruitment.

Camp: "I thought it went really well. I laid it all on the line, hopefully I did well enough to earn an offer."
Potential offer: "Coach Herman told me I'm a guy they could offer. I thought I made a good impression on the staff, and got to know them better. I'm actually supposed to call Coach Herman today to see where I stand, so I'll be giving him a call in a couple of hours to see what he has to say."
What would an offer mean?: "It would mean a lot, especially because I'm an Ohio kid. Not only are the academics at Ohio State good, their football program is one of the best in the country, and with Urban Meyer now leading the program, many are expecting the best years of Ohio State football yet.
How many offensive line spots left?: "Coach Warriner, and Coach Herman told me they definitely have one spot open, and maybe two."
Camping anywhere else?: "Most schools have told me they have seen enough out of me, so I don't believe I will be camping anywhere else. Schools like Wisconsin, and Iowa just want to see me on campus before they offer, so I'll be heading to those two schools very soon."
Next schools to offer?: "I think Iowa and Wisconsin will offer when I visit, then I also hope to get the Ohio State offer. I also believe Michigan could offer soon."
Leaders: "I don't have a top group right now. In my head I have a few schools ahead of others, but I really don't have a top list of schools."
Timetable: "In a perfect would I would like to have it done before the season, so I could focus on nothing, but my team. If I'm not ready though, I'll wait to make my decision after the season."
Factors: "To tell you the truth, it's tough to pinpoint one, or two things. Academics will be huge, it's really important to earn a good degree for after football. Other important things would be the football program, proximity to home, coaches, and early playing time."
Strengths: "Definitely the mental side. It's always important to bring an important level of intensity to the game, and I think I do a good job of that. Also I think a lot of coaches like my athleticism."
Improvements: "Probably my size. Right now I'm 6'5", 250 pounds, which is a weight I'm comfortable at, but if I'm going to be playing guard in the Big Ten, I'm definitely going to need to add weight and strength to my frame."
Position: "Most big ten schools like me at guard, or center, while Big East schools like me on the defensive side of the ball. I have no offense/defense preference."
Goals: "Right now we're working hard as a team to be the best team we can be. We really want to win our division, and beat our rivals. I'm not really into personal accolades, they're great, but my team's success is a lot more important than those."
Thought: Matt is one of 3-4 offensive linemen strongly in the running to receive an offer.

Sean Welsh Update

2012-06-11T23:22:00.003-07:00

Many of the top offensive line prospects in Ohio camped at Ohio State Sunday in hopes of earning an offer from the Buckeyes. One Sunday camper that has a really good chance of receiving an offer from the Buckeyes is Springboro (OH) offensive guard Sean Welsh. Welsh hold offers from Miami (FL), West Virginia, Iowa, Cincinnati, Kentucky, and many other division one schools. Sean and I discussed a potential offer from the Buckeyes, his overall recruitment, and much more! Keep checking back for updates on Sean (could be another in the very near future), as I will be keeping in touch with him throughout his recruitment.

Camp: "It went great, it's probably the only camp I will be going to this summer. It was a lot different than most camps, it was kind of like a two-a-day. In the morning, we mostly did testing type things, then we had lunch, and then after lunch, we broke up in to positions, and got to show our competitiveness. It was a long day, but I think I performed really well."
Potential Offer: "Coach Coombs and Coach Warriner told me they were going to have meeting today (Monday), to determine whether they would be taking one, or two linemen (from the camp. I'm going to call them later tonight, or tomorrow to see if they've decided to offer or not. I would really like to get the offer because it would be great to have the chance to play two hours from home at an elite football program. (More on camp) It was one of the most intense camps I've been to, the talent level there was really high."
Leaders?: "I don't really have a select group, I like Iowa, Cincinnati because it's so close to home, Kentucky, and really just all of my offers. I don't think I could narrow it down to five or ten right now."
Timetable: "I would prefer getting it over with before my season starts, but if I'm at the point where I'm not comfortable with committing anywhere, I'll do it after the season."
Factors: "It's kind of a mix of factors. I want to got to a school where I can get a competitive degree, and also a place with a good football team, because winning is really important to me, I really hate losing. I would also like to play at a school that runs a spread offensive, because that's what my high school runs, so I already know how it works."
Most schools are recruiting Sean as an offensive guard, or center. Iowa is the one school that likes him at tackle.
Was a Buckeye fan growing up, was even born in Columbus.
Strengths: Technique, run blocking.
Improvements: Pass blocking.
Goals: "I really want our team to win our division title, and then make it as far as we can in states."
My thought: Sean is very much in the running to receive an offer from the Buckeyes. In fact the offer could come tomorrow.

Recruiting Positional Breakdown: 2014 Quarterbacks

2012-06-08T12:13:00.000-07:00

A month ago, it was thought the Buckeyes would take just one quarterback in the 2014 class. However, after Mitch Trubisky committed to North Carolina, the plan seems to have changed. I now believe the Buckeyes will end up taking two quarterbacks in the 2014 class, and take only Barrett in 2013. Here is a look at the quarterbacks in the Buckeyes are targeting early in the class of 2014.

The top targets:

William Crest (Baltimore, Maryland): Crest is the only quarterback the Buckeyes have offered thus far 2014 wise. Crest already has the Buckeyes in the lead, and he planning on visiting for a second time this summer, though it may not be for camp. What I like the most about Crest's game is his arm strength, he have an extremely powerful arm for being just a sophomore in high school. Crest may not be the most mobile quarterback in the 2014 class, but displays solid speed, and can make plays with his legs when needed. Crest is definitely a player Buckeye fans need to keep an eye on this next year, or so.

DeShone Kizer (Toledo, Ohio): Kizer has yet to receive an offer from the Buckeyes, but I can forsee one coming if he performs well at camp. We do not yet know when he will be camping, but I'm assuming it will be one the camps in the later portion of June. In my opinion it will be an Ohio State-Michigan battle for the Ohio native, in fact, Kizer grew up rooting for the Wolverines. Kizer is the teammate of 2013 Buckeye commit Jayme Thompson, which should definitely help. I love Kizer's side and speed combination. I think he could add a bit of muscle, and work on his release to improve. Kizer is definitely a prospect firmly on the Buckeyes' radar.

Drew Barker (Hebron, Kentucky): Barker is another quarterback firmly on the Buckeyes' radar and has already been on campus twice. Barker is camping at Ohio State later this month, I believe he could receive an offer if he performs well at camp. I don't know if Barker has the Buckeyes in the lead, but they're definitely very high on his list. My favorite part of Barker's game is his ability to use his arm and legs. Like Crest, Barker my not be the fastest player on the field, but he displays adequate speed for his size. Barker's arm his good as well, but he could definitely improve his passing ability. Once again, keep an eye on Barker, he could definitely soon receive an offer from the Buckeyes.

Names to keep an eye on: Kyle Allen (more on him later today), Adam Bertke (Ohio prospect), and Chris Durkin (Ohio prospect). Obviously more names will emerge on the radar as time goes on. Despite so many 2013 classes filling up quickly, most 2014 players are nowhere near deciding, or close to fully developing as a prospect.

Buckeye Fans: Who do you like the most of the 2014 QB class? Crest? Kizer? Barker? Leave your thoughts below in the comments section.

Sam Coverdale Update

2012-06-07T18:46:00.000-07:00

The Buckeyes are looking to take three offensive linemen in the 2013 class, and have only landed one commitment so far, in Centerville (OH) tackle, Evan Lisle. With players like Ethan Pocic deciding to go elsewhere, the staff has started to look at Ohio offensive line prospects to fill the last spot or two. Chargin Falls (OH) offensive tackle, Sam Coverdale is one of these linemen that have recently emerged on the Buckeye recruiting radar. Coverdale plans on camping at Ohio State Sunday, and believes he could earn an offer from the Buckeyes. I will be hearing from Sam Sunday after he camps, so make sure to check back for updates on rising 2013 offensive tackle, Sam Coverdale.

Camps: Ohio State, Stanford, and Vandy.
Potential offer: "I think I have a very good chance to earn one, I will need to work hard and show my competitiveness to earn it."
Has visited Northwestern twice, Virginia, and Wake Forest. Hasn't been to Ohio State for a "recruiting visit," but has been to many games.
Visit: "I want to go around, and see a couple of the things I haven't seen yet, like the academic side of things, I've already seen most of the campus though."
What he's hearing from OSU: "Coach Warriner really likes my game, and said they'll offer the guys they like most. He also told me I'm near the top of their board, and have a good chance at earning an offer."
If he got the offer?: "It would be huge. I grew up a Buckeye fan, and it would be cool to get an offer from the biggest school in the state."
Factors: "Education is probably the biggest factor. Other important things are football, coaching stability will be very big, I have had three different coaches in high school, and also facilities."
Schools standing out (that have offered): Northwestern, Virginia, and Arizona State. If Ohio State or Stanford offered, they would be "at or near the top of my list."
Wants to decide before senior season, but if he isn't ready, he'll push it back.
Strengths: footwork and size.
Improvements: Explosiveness and strength.
Free time: "I like to hang out with the football guys, I also play basketball, so I hang out with those guys too."
Goals: "We want to make it as far as we can in states, I may even play some defense, which should be interesting."

Visit update on 2014 Hilliard Darby Safety Devon Rogers

2012-06-06T17:26:00.002-07:00

When I last spoke to Devon, he was returning from visiting the Ohio State spring game with high school teammate Caleb Day. He enjoyed that visit and he also enjoyed his visit today to the campus. Here is what Rogers had to say.

"It was really nice to go and see all of the campus. It was the first time I got to see it all football-wise. I was very impressed with everything."

I got to see the entire Woody Hayes Athletic Center, the Meeting Room, Film Room, Weight Room, all the training facilities, and was able to check out the stadium which was neat."

On what the coaches had to say: "I got to speak with Coach Fickell, Withers, and Coombs. They really like my film and say I'm up there on their recruiting board. If I do well enough at camp I could come away with an offer. Urban wasn't there but they want me to visit again to be able to talk to Urban. I'll set that visit up when I am up there at camp."

Other camps/visits: "I am working on setting things up to where I will be going to camp at Wisconsin and Michigan State. I am camping at Illinois on Friday and Syracuse on Monday. I also am planning on being at Cincinnati July 22nd for their Friday Night Lights camp. I'll also be camping at Akron and Kent State. I'm saving the Oregon camp for my senior year."

I'll be staying in touch with Rogers throughout his recruitment and will have updates on any new developments.

The latest on 2013 ATH Adrian Baker

2012-06-06T15:50:00.000-07:00

Ohio State has 11 commits from the class of 2013 and the coaching staff is out and about looking for the next players to join the others. One option is Hallandale, Florida standout Adrian Baker. I recently got in touch with Florida athlete Adrian Baker to discuss his recruitment. Baker has the ability to play Wide Receiver or Cornerback and is being recruited to do both by some of the best programs in the country. He is just a playmaker. Adrian outlined to me what is going on with his recruitment and what his upcoming plans will be.

"Right now I have offers from Florida State, Florida, Nebraska, Clemson, LSU, Oklahoma, West Virginia, and Wisconsin", said the playmaker from West Hollywood. "I will be at Ohio State's camp on June 22nd. I would like to perform well enough and get the offer from the Buckeyes. I'm pumped about going up there, and I talked to Coach Coombs and Coach Fickell and their excited I'm making the trip. They are recruiting me as an athlete. Coach Fickell tells me how I have the ability to make it to the NFL. It's awesome to hear that from a coach like him."

I gave a little spoiler last night but Baker has named a Top 3 in no order that includes Florida State, Oklahoma, and Ohio State. Here is what Baker had to say about all 3 of his leaders.

"Florida State is very interested in me. Their actually strictly recruiting me as a cornerback, and say I have a great chance to see the field early which is always something you want to hear as a recruit. Oklahoma is actually where my cousin went to school. Coach Stoops is a great coach and their a school that is rich in tradition. They have a great program and are always competing for championships. What I love about Ohio State is the tradition and having Urban Meyer as the head coach. I was actually a fan of Miami, but I know how successful he was as head coach of the Gators. I also really enjoy how all their coaches are great family guys."

Adrian Baker also mentioned to me that even though Ohio State is recruiting him as an athlete, they have told him that they are done recruiting corners. Baker's best shot at obtaining an offer from the Buckeyes might be with the ball in his hands. Ohio State has obviously made an impression on Baker landing in his top 3 list of schools.

I will be keeping in touch with Baker and will keep you posted on any new developments.

Introduction to 2014 DB Nick Watkins

2012-06-05T21:00:00.001-07:00

The Buckeyes are looking at many elite defensive backs in the 2014 class. One of these players is Bishop Dunne (TX) defensive back Nick Watkins, who was recently offered by the Buckeyes, and many other top programs. Texas has yet to offer Nick, but I definitely see them doing so at some point in Nick's recruitment. I recently caught up with Nick to breakdown his recruitment to this point. Keep checking back for updates on Nick, as we willing be keeping in-touch throughout his recruitment.

Notable offers: Ohio State, Alabama, Michigan, Baylor, LSU, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Georgia, Texas A&M, and Arkansas.
On offer from Ohio State: "I was in chemistry class when they called me coach. When my coach informed me of the offer, I was very excited. Ohio State has a winning school, and great tradition.
Not sure about camps this summer, as he is coming off a hip flexor injury.
Might take visits to Alabama, Ohio State, and Michigan this summer.
Factors: "I am looking for a school that best fits me. I am looking for a school with a good business, or mechanical engineering schools. Football factors would be facilities, and the chance to play early."
Wants to decide senior year: "I am in no rush to decide on a school, I want to take everything in, and explore all my options."
Strengths: "I think I am well rounded. I can play zone, man, and press coverages. I am also real strong on the field, and never have mental lapses."
Improvements: "There's room for improvement everywhere, but I would most like to work on strength, and speed over the summer."
Growing up, Nick was a Texas fan, Vince Young was his favorite player.
Off the field: "I watch a lot of movies, play Madden, NCAA, and hang out with friends."
Goals: "Team goal is to make it to states, and form a winning program. Individually, I would like to get 40-50 tackles, 10 picks, and a few punt return touchdowns."

Intro to 2014 Cass Tech (MI) LB Will White

2012-06-04T15:07:00.003-07:00

The school Cass Tech needs no introduction as it churns out big time prospects year in and year out to the biggest college programs in the nation. The class of 2014 will be no different as several Cass Tech players will garner a ton of recruiting attention. Will White is one that has caught the eye of the Ohio State coaching staff, along with a few others. It should be to no surprise however as White broke out last season with 102 tackles as a sophomore to go with two interceptions and two sacks. He talks about his recruitment, some of his summer plans, and Ohio State.

"I do not have any offers yet but I will be going to the Pittsburgh camp this weekend and I am attending the Ohio State 2 day camp on June 22nd and 23rd", said the talented linebacker from the state of Michigan. "I'll also be visiting Michigan and Alabama sometime this summer. I'm hoping to show off my talent at these camps and to earn some offers."

Coming from the state of Michigan and being from a high school that seems to always produce talent that attends the University of Michigan I asked White if he grew up a Michigan fan or if he aligned himself with the Wolverines.

"I really did not grow up a Michigan fan. It's not that I was an Ohio State fan. I just didn't have a team that I directly followed ever. I just watched the games."

I asked if any programs were standing out early in the process despite the lack of offers.

"Ohio State and Pittsburgh are expressing the most interest and I talk to them the most often. I speak to Coach Coombs from Ohio State. He's a real cool guy. He's full of energy. He just wanted me to come to camp to see what I can do on the field. He even joked and said 'I hope you're not a Michigan fan' when we first started talking (laughs). I have actually already visited Ohio State twice and their campus is beautiful."

White also said that academics will be an important factor in his decision, along with the depth chart. White is very interested in majoring in something in relation to business, and mentioned the prestige of the Business School at Ohio State as something that has caught his attention.

White's goals for the upcoming year are to win another state championship for Cass Tech and to claim two scholarship offers for football. I have a feeling he will be able to claim a lot more than two scholarships at the end of the year.

Intro to 2014 Lima, OH CB Darius West

2012-06-04T08:58:00.004-07:00

Darius West is a Safety entering his junior season for Central Catholic H.S. in Lima, Ohio. It is the same high school Michigan State 2012 Quarterback signee Tyler O'Connor is from. Last season West recorded 69 tackles, forced a fumble, and also recorded an interception. The sophomore season he displayed has really caught the eye of many college programs across the country. Here is some more information on Darius West.

No offers yet but expecting some to come soon
Hearing from West Virginia, Arkansas, Penn State, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Kent State, Iowa State, Illinois, Minnesota, and Kentucky
Most of those schools were at his school in the past month.
Wants to check out Ohio State, Michigan, and Michigan State
Invited to the 5 star Rivals Challenge in Atlanta and will be attending.
Factors when making a decision on where to attend college will be his comfort with the coaching staff, players, and the campus/atmosphere

My Mock Class 2.0

2012-06-03T05:44:00.000-07:00

A lot of potential targets have landed elsewhere lately so I will try to give you a rough estimate of maybe what to expect, or at least consider. In the past month Alex Anzalone and Lewis Neal left the Ohio State recruiting class. Darrien Howard committed to West Virginia. Ethan Pocic committed to LSU. It was also released that Josh McNeil is no longer in the plans for Ohio State.

I will go on the premise of 20 scholarships being available.

Quarterback: J.T. Barrett (1). It was thought all along that Ohio State would take the commitment of 2 quarterbacks in this class. I no longer think that will be the case with Aaron Bailey joining the Fighting Illini, Malik Zaire being apart of the Irish, and Mitch Trubisky committing to North Carolina. If another quarterback joins the class I see Tra'Von Chapman being the only option. I will stick with Barrett, and Barrett only.

Running Back (1): Ezekiel Elliott. Miles still has the notion that Derrick Green will be in this class. I do not echo that same sentiment. I think Elliott is somebody they are content with and will not fill the position with anymore players. Now, I could be dead wrong, but I see Meyer and company wanting to fill other positions first. Other possibilities are the previously mentioned Derrick Green, along with Taquan Mizzell.

Wide Receiver (5): I consider Jalin Marshall in this group so they are already at one. I see this list growing to 5. That is certainly a stretch but I think further attrition from the current roster could actually come from this group. Meyer loves playmakers and wide receiver is the position he has been concerned with the most. Jalin Marshall is in, and I think on June 20th Shelton Gibson will be too. It is a gamble but I think those two could be joined by Robert Foster, James Quick, and Devon Allen. James Quick has OSU in his top 3 and I think the Buckeyes are the favorite, to the disagreement of some. Robert Foster's talk with Miles really stressed academics. I do not like to analyze but that seems to be for a reason. I believe he is aiming to win over the Ohio State coaching staff. Devon Allen to Ohio State is just a gut feeling I've had all along and I will stick with it. I have no proof or reason to believe it, but I'm going to stick with it and own it.

Tight End (1): California native Marcus Baugh is already apart of the class. It was evident that the Buckeyes also wanted Mike Heuerman, but were unsuccessful. Recent developments have shown Josh McNeil is no longer in the plans for Ohio State. Ohio State backing off McNeil shows to me that they are very confident in keeping the commitment of Marcus Baugh.

Offensive Line (2): It was a position in dire need of improvement a short time ago, but things have really been shored up with the 2012 commitments of Joey O'Connor, Jacoby Boren, Pat Elflein, Taylor Decker, and Kyle Dodson and the addition of Evan Lisle in this year's class. Most believe a lot still needs to be done with this group, but not as much as you would think. A new development was revealed earlier today as Kyle Meadows will be camping at Ohio State next weekend to earn an offer. I'm predicting he performs well enough to receive the offer and will end up apart of this class. I think they will be the only 2 offensive lineman taken in this class. Rodgers is more of an interior player that Ohio State has a lot of.

Defensive Line (5): I will admit I did not foresee as many defensive lineman in this class as has been taken. Billy Price, Tracy Sprinkle, and Joey Bosa have already committed and I see two others getting in as well. Those two would be Donovan Munger and Michael Hill. Both prospects are highly touted and could be done deals before the month of June is over. That is 5 on the defensive line for this class after 4 in the last class. This group has some versatility though as Munger and Price both have ability to play offensive line at the next level as well.

Linebacker (1): No linebackers are in this class currently but 5 were taken in the last class that included Josh Perry, Luke Roberts, Camren Williams, Jamal Marcus, and David Perkins, so it is not as big a deal as it seems. Also the class of 2014 is a great linebacker group and Ohio State appears to be in good position with several of them. I see one linebacker being committed in the class of 2013 but it's anyone's guess as to who. Right now my wild guess is Texas native Mike Mitchell. Keep an eye out for WVU commit Darrien Howard or Devaris Brunson though. Other names will pop up as well.

Corners/Safeties (4): Cam Burrows, Eli Woodard, and Jayme Thompson already comprise a stellar group and I see room for one more. It could be more based on attrition. My projection of that one commit is Vonn Bell. It is by no means a slam dunk and will take a lot of work but it is within the realm of possibility, unlike Su'a Cravens or Vernon Hargreaves. Other names to keep an eye on would be Jamal Carter, Adrian Baker, and Darian Hicks.

Short update on 2014 Texas OT Demetrius Knox

2012-06-02T14:12:00.004-07:00

I talked with 2014 Texas OT Demetrius Knox recently. Knox is going to be amongst the best offensive offensive tackles for the class of 2014. A lot of buzz has been out recently on what his summer visit schedule would be like. I exchanged a few messages with Demetrius to confirm that schedule. Also, remember, Demetrius did grow up in Ohio. He is a native of Springfield, Ohio and moved to Texas when he was in the 7th grade. My last update with Knox, he iterated that Alabama, Texas, Ohio State, and UCLA were the 4 schools sticking out.

Alabama, Texas, Ohio State, and UCLA still sticking out. Said Oregon is right up there with those schools now.
Will for sure visit Texas, Texas A&M, Baylor, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Florida, and Alabama
About the visit to Ohio State: "A visit I want to make but it is not set in stone yet. It's a maybe."

A lot of conflicting reports out there saying that Knox would visit Columbus for sure this summer so that should clarify things up.

Introduction to 2014 Safety C.J. Reavis

2012-06-02T13:17:00.001-07:00

6'1 195 pound safety C.J. Reavis is an up and coming star in the class of 2014. The safety comes from Chester, Virginia. He is beginning to rake in offers from several elite programs and there will definitely be more to come. Reavis had a good sophomore season leading Thomas Dale H.S. to the 3rd round of the playoffs in the state of Virginia before losing to Hermitage H.S., home of 2013 running back Derrick Green, and current Ohio State linebacker Curtis Grant. Ohio State certainly knows this area on the recruiting trail. Here are the highlights to my conversation with C.J. Reavis.

5 offers in total: Virginia Tech, Virginia, Maryland, NC State, and Boston College
Also receiving interest from Michigan, Ohio State, Alabama, Cincinnati, Miami, and Clemson
Was also a fan of South Carolina and LSU growing up, so he is hoping for offers from them
Has talked to Coach Zach Smith of Ohio State
Supposed to call Urban Meyer at some point (an offer could come at that point)
Supposed to be at Ohio State on June 21st to meet the coaching staff
Has already visited Virginia Tech and Virginia
Visits this summer: Clemson, Miami, Ohio State, and Michigan
Also camping at Alabama
He is a ballhawking Safety. From Reavis: "Where ever the ball is, that's where I'll be."
Factors in college choice: Academics - wants to major in Sports Marketing or Journalism
Also from Reavis: "I want to compete for championships."
On Ohio State: "My interest in the Buckeyes are very high. I know Curtis Grant who played at Hermitage who is now a linebacker for them. They have a tremendous history of winning, always competing for championships, and they've been good for a long time."
Reavis said the schools sticking out to him so far are Virginia Tech, Ohio State, Alabama, and Michigan."

I will update the Reavis recruitment as it goes on. Thanks for reading, as always.

Taquan Mizzell update

2012-06-02T08:05:00.002-07:00

Taquan Mizzell is an elite running back out of the state of Virginia. His intial ranking among scouting services has received a huge boost after he tore up the camp and combine circuit. Most recently, he was bumped up to the #43 player in the country by Rivals. A few days ago Mizzell announced his top 10 schools. I caught up with Taquan to discuss his top 10 and more in his recruitment.

Top 10 in no particular order: West Virginia, Virginia, Miami, Clemson, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, Illinois, NC State, and North Carolina
Notre Dame most recent to offer: Excited about that offer and has them in top 10. Mizzell is excited and feels the same about every offer he receives though.
Thrilled and excited to reap the benefits of his camp performance. Mizzell said it was nice to see his hard work pay off.
His size right now is 5-foot-10 and 187 pounds.
Will also be attending the Rivals 5 star challenge in Atlanta, The Opening, and Gridiron Kings.
Will have a plan for visits sometime soon
Mizzell: "There is no order to my top 10 but I like Ohio State because of my interaction with their coaches. I talk to Urban, Coach Drayton, and Coach Smith. I have talked to Urban about 3 different times and he just wants me to get to Columbus for a visit."
When asked who was recruiting him the hardest, he said it was close but probably Virginia, NC State, and West Virginia

Mizzell will inform me of his summer visit schedule when he has it 100% planned and you will receive that information as soon as I get it. Could be interesting the way it plays out.
