The Glee Project co-winner Damian McGinty made his long-awaited debut as Rory Flanagan on Tuesday’s “Pot O’ Gold” episode of Fox’s hit Glee, while Santana and Brittany grew closer and Burt faced off against Sue as the series unspooled its fourth episode of the season.

The episode brought Finn front and center as leader of the glee club and picked up on story lines from Seasons 1 and 2, including Santana’s feelings for Brittany and put scene stealers Kurt and Rachel on the back burner. Here are The Hollywood Reporter’s top moments from “Pot O’ Gold.”
<!--
Macy’s Inc. says it will open all of its namesake stores at midnight on the day after Thanksgiving for the first time. It becomes the latest retailer to extend hours on Black Friday, the traditional kickoff to the holiday season.

More than 800 Macy’s stores will stay open for 23 hours and close at 11 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 25. That compares with last year when Macy’s opened eight stores at midnight while the rest opened at 4 a.m.

Martine Reardon, Macy’s executive vice president of marketing, said the midnight openings are a response to customers’ requests.

“People want to shop through the night,” Reardon said.

In recent years, retailers have expanded their Black Friday hours and rolled out sales for the day weeks in advance. That’s in contrast to a few years ago when stores kept their discounts and hours secret until a few days before the Thanksgiving weekend. Retailers are responding to shoppers who like to map out their bargain-hunting strategies early.

Last year, Sears and Kmart stores opened Thanksgiving morning for the first time. Toys R Us stores opened at 10 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. Many Gap Inc. stores also were open. And Wal-Mart opened most of its stores by midnight that evening.

Target Corp. became one of the first retailers to announce its Black Friday hours this year. The discounter said on Friday that it would open its doors at midnight for the first time ever and offer Black Friday specials at that time. Like Macy’s, it plans to stay open 23 hours. More merchants are expected to announce their hours and deals for the Thanksgiving weekend in the next week or so.

It’s hard to believe, but as the national unemployment rate continues to hover at 9%, there is a little town by the name of Williston, North Dakota that has thousands of job openings.

These high paying jobs are going unfilled. Are you ready to make some big bucks working some cool jobs? Keep reading, you’ll be amazed at how much money some of these jobs are paying!

Believe it or not, a local Taco restaurant is hiring at $15 per hour serving tacos. Kitchen staffers also make about $15 per hour in many of the local restaurants. Have waitress skills? How about working at a restaurant where waitresses are making $25 per hour? Love trucking? Many truck driving jobs are paying $80,000 per year! There’s only one catch… you have to relocate to North Dakota to land one of these high paying jobs.

What’s driving this amazing opportunity? Oil! That’s right, crude oil is everywhere under your feet in this area. Only recently has the technology been invented to tap into these oil fields and now companies are struggling to find workers.
Entry Level Jobs in Williston, ND

Entry level jobs everywhere from restaurants and grocery stores to convenience stores and local banks pay a minimum of $12 per hour, according to the McKenzie County Job Development Authority. Truck drivers make an average of $70,000 to $80,000 a year.

Housing Crisis

With so many workers flocking to Williston, a crisis has developed in the housing market. Where to house these full-time and part-time workers. Many people are sleeping in their cars at the local Walmart. The hotels in town are at 100% capacity, campgrounds are full as there is simply no where left to live. Plenty of jobs and not enough housing has caused the housing industry to also boom in Williston.

Strippers Cash-in on Lonely Oil Workers

No longer is Las Vegas the highest paid stripper capital. Thanks to the oil boom in Williston and the countless men working the oil fields and driving the trucks, strip joints have also seen a surge in customers. Along with more customers come bigger salaries for the strippers. According to reports, strippers in Williston, ND are making $3,000 per night!

Whispers (a local strip club) has received job applications from exotic dancers in Hawaii, Alaska, even the Czech Republic and Germany.

So what are you waiting for? Grab your things and head to Williston, ND for a high paying job in almost any position/industry you can imagine!
Bloomberg

Stephen Goldsmith a high-profile deputy to Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg...

Stephen Goldsmith, a high-profile deputy to Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg who came under fire for the city’s poor response to a crippling blizzard in December, announced on Thursday that he would leave his position after just 14 months in office.

Mr. Goldsmith, a former mayor of Indianapolis, was brought in by Mr. Bloomberg last year with much fanfare: a Harvard professor and expert in innovation poached from the ivory tower to reinvent city government.

But Mr. Goldsmith never seemed to master the day-to-day mechanics of New York’s sprawling government or relish the political intricacies of the job, and dissatisfaction with his performance became widespread in City Hall, according to two aides to Mr. Bloomberg who spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of angering the mayor.

Mr. Goldsmith informed Mr. Bloomberg of his resignation this week. He is being replaced by Caswell F. Holloway, the commissioner of the city’s Department of Environmental Protection.

The departure is another setback for the mayor’s effort to bring fresh-faced outsiders — like Mr. Goldsmith and the publishing executive Cathleen P. Black, who briefly served as schools chancellor — into his administration to energize his third term.

In a statement, Mr. Goldsmith said he was leaving the administration to return to academic work and to pursue opportunities in the financial sector, though he has not yet lined up a job. Friends described his resignation as abrupt; he had been scheduling meetings and discussing policy proposals as recently as last week.

Mr. Goldsmith did not respond to interview requests on Thursday. “The change will provide me, at age 64, with more flexibility for me and my family and a secure foundation for our future,” he said in the statement.

Mr. Goldsmith, like Ms. Black, was seen by Mr. Bloomberg as a bold choice who could help shape what has seemed at times to be an unfocused third term. Instead, both of them clashed with those they supervised, struggled to master their jobs and became the subject of open sniping in City Hall.

Mr. Goldsmith’s position, as deputy mayor of operations, made him responsible for the city agencies by which New Yorkers measure the efficiency of their government: police, fire, transportation, sanitation and buildings.

His most visible moment on the job was also perhaps his lowest: he became the face of the city’s lackluster response to the Dec. 26 snowstorm. Many of the top city officials, including Mr. Bloomberg, were out of town during the storm. Mr. Goldsmith had been at his home in the Georgetown section of Washington, and on the evening of the snowstorm, he posted a message on his Twitter feed praising city workers, which many snowbound New Yorkers saw as out of touch. “Good snow work,” he wrote.

At a raucous City Council hearing after the blizzard, Mr. Goldsmith apologized several times and acknowledged wide-ranging mistakes.

From the day he took office in June 2010, Mr. Goldsmith, who regarded himself as a management guru but knew little about New York’s vast bureaucracy, repeatedly frustrated his colleagues, according to interviews with City Hall aides and advisers.

In his first major labor move, Mr. Goldsmith overruled the advice of some longtime city officials by announcing plans to demote 100 supervisors from the Sanitation Department and return them to the front lines.

The decision had two immediate consequences. It infuriated the head of the sanitation workers union, Harry Nespoli, who, as the leader of the powerful Municipal Labor Council, plays a crucial role in the city’s labor relations. And it angered the work force responsible for clearing snow just weeks before the blizzard.

Mr. Nespoli said Mr. Goldsmith had failed to listen to his warnings about low staffing levels and morale in the Sanitation Department. “You don’t come in and say, ‘I was in Indianapolis, and this is what we did there,’ ” he said. “That doesn’t work in New York.”

City Hall aides complained that, in meetings, Mr. Goldsmith emphasized management theory over political pragmatism. As a result, they said, conversations devolved at times into convoluted academic discussions that resolved little.

When City Hall staff members met to discuss the growing public outcry over the reconstruction of a major roadway in the Bronx, which was hurting beloved local trees, Mr. Goldsmith engaged in a discourse about eliminating risk in government. Those in the room were befuddled, according to people with knowledge of the meeting.

In some cases, Mr. Goldsmith’s decisions proved problematic enough that they were overturned, as when he removed financing from the city’s latest budget for new waste management stations. The stations were the linchpin of a citywide trash removal program that the Bloomberg administration had spent years fighting for. After environmentalists and local advocacy groups learned of the budget cut and complained, it was reversed by Mr. Bloomberg.

Some City Hall aides also said they were surprised that Mr. Goldsmith continued to divide his time between New York and Washington, and bought a home in the city just several months ago.

Mr. Goldsmith’s victories included a major consolidation of information technology and real estate operations and the creation of a Web site to allow city residents to submit ideas on cutting costs.

Some city officials found his style refreshing. Councilman Peter F. Vallone Jr. of Queens, who grilled Mr. Goldsmith at the blizzard hearing, praised his directness. “Forgetting about the merits of what happened, he was a very stand-up guy,” Mr. Vallone said. “He took the brunt of our questioning, and he answered honestly.”

With the appointment of Mr. Holloway, 37, Mr. Bloomberg seems to be signaling a return to traditional, hands-on management by the city’s operations chief.

Mr. Holloway worked for four years as chief of staff to Mr. Goldsmith’s predecessor, Edward Skyler, who was credited with deft crisis management during his tenure and widely missed in City Hall.

Mr. Bloomberg and Mr. Goldsmith bonded during a meeting in Mr. Goldsmith’s office at Harvard in spring 2010. It was there that Mr. Bloomberg, encouraged by his aides, began to court Mr. Goldsmith, a former adviser to George W. Bush, for a job in the city.

Mr. Goldsmith was immediately intrigued by the challenge, and by all indications, he seemed prepared to stay until the end of Mr. Bloomberg’s third term.

“One has only a small opportunity in life to do things like this,” Mr. Goldsmith said in an interview earlier this year. “Every second you can be doing things, changing things, fixing things. Making life better for New Yorkers is why I’m here.

“I wasn’t invited by the mayor here to have a good time. I’ve been given this opportunity to make a difference, and so I’ve got to slug that out every day.”

LONDON (Dow Jones)--Nymex crude oil futures Friday bounced off lows, retracing the over 4% drop in prices seen in early Asia trade as investors settled in to await U.S. employment data---a key indicator of the economic health of the world's largest oil consumer.

Crude futures are now expected to stabilize unchanged to slightly higher on the day as investors await the U.S. July nonfarm payroll report, due out at 1230 GMT, for signs of whether the world's largest economy is slipping into recession.

At 0945 GMT, the front-month September contract on the New York Mercantile Exchange was trading down 32 cents, or 0.4, at $86.31 a barrel. The front-month September Brent contract on London's ICE futures exchange was up $1.30, or 1.1%, at $108.55 a barrel

Nymex oil crashed in early Asia trade to $82.87 a barrel, the lowest level seen since Nov. 26, 2010, as sentiment deteriorated further following the plunge in equities markets that started Thursday and dragged other asset classes like commodities lower.

The low seen today on Nymex oil is down over 13% since the close on Friday, July 29.

Traders said the funds that trade on the closing price of Nymex crude came in Friday morning and sold oil, exacerbating the move downwards.

The oil price fell as investors pulled out of risky assets such as commodities to raise cash to pay margin calls on stock markets.

"It's an equity-led dump and all the people who are losing money on equities get out of commodities to pay their margins," said Andy Riddell head of derivatives at London Capital Group.

Brent September crude fell 2.8% in early trade to a low of $104.30 a barrel.

At 0939 GMT, the ICE's gasoil contract for August delivery was down $15.50, or 1.7%, at $918.50 per metric ton, while Nymex gasoline for August delivery was up 300 points, or 1.1%, at $2.7672 per gallon.

Thursday's stock market plunge was a reminder that the U.S. economy remains far from the sort of robust recovery that would swell tax coffers and sink unemployment rates. While we feel the need to caution readers that a one-day drop in the Dow of 512.76 points, even on top of several days of losses, can lead to overreactions, there are a few troubling aspects to this development.

One is that markets clearly were unimpressed with how Congress solved its debt-ceiling standoff earlier this week. The nation may have avoided defaulting on its debts, but the crisis clearly was one the politicians themselves manufactured, and the solution did nothing to address the nation's long-term budget problems. As the Wall Street Journal reported this week, even the projected initial cut of less than $1 trillion was based on optimistic, and perhaps completely unrealistic, growth projections. Politicians relied on earlier Congressional Budget Office figures predicting gross domestic product would increase 3.1 percent in 2011 and 2.8 percent in 2012. Given the anemic 0.8 percent growth during the first half of 2011, those figures now look unattainable, meaning the nation's long-term deficit will be higher than expected, and the cuts will trim much less than expected.

Another is that consumer spending is down, as is hiring by private businesses. People are becoming worried about a new recession, and those worries can become self-fulfilling as people and businesses hold onto money. A measure of investment fear over the next 30 days, known as the VIX index, is up 92.6 percent for the quarter that began July 1. This attitude also is evident among investors who sent the price of oil down to $87 a barrel as of Thursday on fears that demand will slow as the economy grinds to a halt.

Europe isn't helping matters. Italy and Spain both may need the European Union to help them out of a crisis soon, further weakening the EU as Germany, England and other relatively strong nations struggle to help the weaker links.

Unlike in 2008, Washington has few ideas for confronting a new slow-down, and virtually no political will to attempt anything even if it had an idea. Those who favor an increase in government spending and an influx of newly printed money to prime economic pumps must confront the fact that those tactics have failed to yield any results. On the other end of the spectrum, those who favor policies that hold tax rates and interest rates low to spur investment must also confront the fact that this, too, has failed to yield results. A USA Today analysis found Americans pay less in taxes as a percentage of income today than at any time since 1950. Meanwhile, despite an increase in corporate profits, much of that money remains on the sidelines.

Both sides would argue for simply increasing their respective strategies, and an argument certainly could be made in favor of less official uncertainty spurred by new financial regulatory laws and health care reform. But political gridlock virtually guarantees that Washington will remain passive.

A further slowdown would ripple through the economy in many ways. State and local governments, many of which already are struggling to balance budgets, would face further challenges with few options other than drastic cuts. Even austere Utah, which has been among the best-managed states, would struggle against demands for education, highways, corrections and other needs.

On the other hand, there is some good news that seems to have been ignored by markets. For example, as a share of GDP, corporate profits are at record highs and second-quarter earning reports continue to be stronger than expected. The past few days may represent only a temporary market correction. That should be everybody's hope.

Concerns over the weak U.S. recovery and Europe's inability to tame its spreading debt crisis have turned an intense spotlight on the monthly non-farm payrolls report.

"The report is going to be very critical. One of the things that has been the largest headwind to economic growth has been the high unemployment rate," said Jason Ware, a senior research analyst at Albion Financial Group in Salt Lake City, Utah.

"If there isn't job growth, it crystallizes in a lot of people's minds that we are in fact in an environment where growth may be really difficult to come by."

U.S. stocks on Thursday suffered their worst sell-off in two years. European stocks slumped to a level not seen since after the financial crisis in mid-2009.

U.S. payrolls probably rose by 85,000, according to a Reuters survey, after a measly 18,000 gain in June. The unemployment rate is expected to hold steady at 9.2 percent.

Top policymakers at the Federal Reserve will sift through the report when they meet on Tuesday but are not expected to announce any new measures to support the sputtering recovery.

The U.S. central bank has cut interest rates to zero and spent $2.3 trillion on bonds. Policymakers have said they want to see how the economy fares before taking any further action.

July's anticipated jobs growth might not be sufficient to soothe jittery investors. June's rise was the smallest since September 2010 and followed a gain of just 25,000 in May.

The Labor Department will release the July employment report at 8:30 a.m. (1230 GMT)

GROWTH HAS STALLED

U.S. growth stalled in the first half of 2011, fanning fears of a new downturn. Gross domestic product grew at a 1.3 percent annual pace in the second quarter after a scant 0.4 percent rise in the first three months of the year.

Economists said the weakness did not explain the abrupt slowdown in hiring in May and June. Average private payroll growth in the two months skidded to 65,000. It had averaged 230,000 in March and April.

"There is an extremely elevated degree of anxiety that has dominated recently, both the corporate and the consumer sectors. This tends to aggravate what started initially as a moderate slowdown in economic activity in the spring," said Anthony Karydakis, chief economist at Commerzbank in New York.

A stand-off between Democrats and Republicans over raising the country's debt ceiling poisoned the atmosphere for employers and consumers. The economy's poor health has eroded President Barack Obama's popularity among Americans and could hurt his chances of reelection.

The borrowing limit was raised this week in a deal that relied on spending cuts. Economists estimate the budget cuts and expiring stimulus -- including a payroll tax cut and emergency unemployment benefits -- could subtract more than a percentage point from GDP growth next year.

PRIVATE HIRING TO STEP UP

All the gains in non-farm employment in July are expected to come from the private sector, where employment is seen rising 115,000 -- an acceleration from June's 57,000 increase.

Only a fraction of the more than 8 million jobs lost during the downturn have been recovered.

Government payrolls are expected to have dropped by about 30,000 in July, a ninth straight month of job losses. But there is a risk of a steeper decline after a government shutdown in Minnesota left thousands of state workers without paychecks during the survey period for July payrolls.

"Since the jobs recovery began in March last year government agencies have cut 410,000 jobs," said Patrick O'Keefe, head of economic research at J.H. Cohn in Roseland, New Jersey.

With looming budget cuts at the federal government level and state and local governments still tightening their belts, the burden of job creation falls on the private sector.

At an average of 145,000 private jobs a month, O'Keefe said it would take four years to return to the pre-recession employment level.

Within the private sector, most of the job gains are likely to be concentrated in the services sector. Temporary help -- a harbinger of permanent hiring -- will be closely watched after declining for three straight months.

Manufacturing payrolls are expected to add to June's 6,000 gain because of fewer auto plant shutdowns in July for annual retooling. Most auto manufacturers brought forward their plant shutdowns to deal with a shortage of parts from Japan after the March earthquake and tsunami.

The employment report is also expected to show the average work week unchanged at 34.4 hours and with average hourly earnings rising 0.2 percent after being flat in June.

Sony's new portable PlayStation Vita game system will go on sale in Japan by the end of this year, then launch in the U.S. and Europe in early 2012, a company executive said Thursday.

The device, which boasts advanced features like motion controls and touchpads on both its screen and rear side, will stick to its launch price of US$250, despite recent, drastic price cuts by Nintendo to its 3DS handheld released earlier this year.

"We've packed so much into the device and made it affordable," said Kaz Hirai who is in charge of Sony's gaming operations as well as consumer electronics. "There's no need to lower the price, just because someone else that happens to be in the video game business decided that they were going to."

Nintendo launched the latest version of its smash-hit DS portable earlier this year, but that device had a rocky start, selling 3.6 million units during its first five weeks on sale, but then just 710,000 during the next three months. Nintendo said last week it would slash the price of the device by 40 percent in Japan and 32 percent in the U.S., a rare move less than six months after launch.

Hirai declined to provide any shipment targets for the Vita, saying only he wanted to make sure there were a variety of quality games available for the Vita at launch. A lack of quality titles was one issue that hurt the 3DS.

Hirai, who spoke to reporters at the company's headquarters in Tokyo, said the two devices were targeted at different markets in the gaming world, and he doesn't consider Nintendo's handheld to be a direct competitor. Sony's devices have typically aimed for more devoted gamers rather than the casual market.

He said that 90 percent of customers were "back doing things" on Sony's gaming networks after outages caused by hackers in April.

The executive also addressed Sony's struggling TV business, calling it his top priority. Like other major manufacturers, Sony has struggled to make a profit in TVs, as consumers opt for cheaper models over established brands with more features. The company recently slashed its 12-month TV sales forecast from 27 million units to 22 million units, and is aiming to sell higher-profit models rather than focus on market share.

Sony was third in global flat panel TV sales during the first quarter of this year with an 11.4 percent share, behind Samsung and LG Electronics, according to market research firm DisplaySearch. Despite a recent trend toward outsourcing, Hirai said Sony would continue to mass produce TVs, and would not consider pulling out of the business. "The TV business is a very important and fundamental platform," he said.

Hitachi, for example, is considering outsourcing all of its TV production, spokesman Atsushi Kondo said.

Hirai added that the company remained strongly committed to 3D, despite a lackluster reception from consumers so far. He said games were much more suited to the format, as designers could control all aspects, in contrast to broadcasts like live sporting events.

"Just like the adaption of things like color TVs or high definition didn't happen in a year and a half, it's going to take a little bit of time for these new technologies to get adopted," he said.

Sony reported a net loss for the three month period from April to June as the company dealt with unfavorable exchange rates, cut-throat competition in the consumer electronics business, and the hacking attack.

Previously the head of Sony's networked services unit, Hirai is credited with turning the PlayStation business into a money-maker. He was promoted to his current position from April 1, and is seen as a leading candidate to replace current chairman Howard Stringer after he retires.

Google launched its Voice service in New Zealand today, offering low-cost calls from within Gmail to a traditional landline or mobile phone number.

Voice is being rolled out progressively, with the first Google account holders connected this afternoon.

The Skype-style service charges US2 cents a minute for calls to a landline (against US2.3 cents with Skype), and US20 cents for calls to a cellphone ((against Skype's US32 cents).

And like Skype, at registration you're required to put a minimum balance into your calling account (via credit card) before you can make your first call. Google Voice asks for $US10 against Skype's minimum kickstart of €10.

NBR made a quick call to a New Zealand mobile. The call quality - on an internet connection that's slow and laggy this afternoon - was echo-y. Your correspondent gave up after about 15 seconds, but Google Voice duly deducted US20 cents from his account (see Google's full rates here). The call recipient called your correspondent's mobile from his Google Voice account. Quality was so-so, with the watery and, again, echo-y quality. There also seemed to be some lag. All in all, it was at the poorer end of the VoiP quality scale by any measure. Others report "okay" quality for domestic and international calls.

For the time being, this VoIP is not as potent as it is in the US, where you can port (take) your traditional phone company number with you if you want to go all-Google Voice, and free calling within the domestic US is standard.

Another issue: earlier Twitter feedback had people complaining they could not make 0800 calls, but NBR was able to connect a toll-free call - albeit with the standard landline fee of US2 cents deducted.

Still, it's yet another headache for Telecom and other tradtitional telcos, who have already seen steep erosion in their earnings from once-lucrative voice calling.
(KFT) is splitting up in two Companies

Kraft Foods Inc. (KFT) is splitting up in two Companies ...

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Kraft Foods Inc. (KFT) is splitting up in two, putting its global snacks and North American grocery businesses in separate baskets.

The surprise move, announced Thursday, comes after Kraft last year became the second largest global food company with its acquisition of Cadbury PLC.

Now 18 months into the Cadbury integration, Kraft says it finds itself with two classes of brands that can be best managed separately, and also attract investors who either want to bet on the global growth aspirations of snacks or on the slower growing but steady grocery business in North America.

"We have built two strong, but distinct, portfolios," Chief Executive Irene Rosenfeld said.

Its proposed global snacks business will include Kraft's European business and developing markets units, as well as snacks and confectionary businesses in North America. With about $32 billion in estimated revenue, it will house the likes of Oreo cookies, Cadbury chocolates and Trident gum, all which have greater prospects for growth in emerging markets and to sell more to consumers on the go.

The North America grocery business, with the likes of Kraft cheeses, Maxwell House coffee and Jell-O snacks, lacks the growth potential but comes with stronger margins and more reliable sales. It will have an estimated $16 billion in revenue.

The company expects to conduct the split before year-end 2012 through a tax-free spin-off of the North American grocery business to shareholders. Kraft shares rose 7.3% to $36.80 in recent premarket trading.

Among other companies in recent months that have announced plans to split are Fortune Brands Inc. (FO), Sara Lee Corp. (SLE), Motorola Inc. and a number of energy companies.

Higher commodity costs have dented food makers' results recently, as their ability to pass along the cost to consumers is limited amid weak consumer confidence and high unemployment.

For the second quarter, Kraft reported a profit of $976 million, or 55 cents a share, up from $937 million, or 53 cents a share, a year earlier. Operating earnings rose to 62 cents, driven by currency and operating gains, while net revenue climbed 13% to $13.9 billion, helped by price increases. Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters were looking for 58 cents and $13.2 billion, respectively.

Gross margin slipped to 35.1% from 38.3% on higher commodity costs.

Kraft also raised its guidance for the year, projecting operating earnings of at least $2.20 to $2.25 and organic net revenue growth of at least 4% to 5%. The prior view had been for at least $2.20 in earnings and organic net revenue growth of at least 4%, excluding the impact of accounting calendar changes.

"Despite rising input costs and a volatile economic environment, aggressive cost management coupled with strong revenue growth gives us confidence that we will deliver top-tier performance for the year," Chief Financial Officer David Brearton said.

A vacation to a cooler climate would make a lot of people feel better about the heat these days. And a nice potential financial windfall may be coming up for someone Wednesday night that just might make that happen.

There was no winner in last Saturday night’s Powerball drawing, so the jackpot has rolled over to $160 million for Wednesday evening. The lump sum payout will be $85.2 million.

The Powerball jackpot will be the highest since June 1st when a group of New York Costco workers won over $200 million. World Lottery News reports that four players matched five balls without the Powerball, and each collecting $250,000. None of them were from New Jersey.

But just a week earlier, our luck was a little better. Lottery.com reported that two l New Jersey players won Powerball’s second prize of $200,000 in the Saturday, July 23 drawing. One ticket was purchased in Camden County, at the One Stop Shoppe in Magnolia, and the other came from Hunterdon County, and was bought at Ringoes Country Deli.
CLICK HERE FOR POWERBALL WINNING NUMBERS

Lottery's Executive Director Carole Hedinger says each store receives a bonus check of $500 for selling the tickets.

Lottery Post reminds us that even if you don’t win, be sure and always check your tickets carefully, because millions of dollars in winning tickets are being allowed to expire every year. A $250,000 Mega Millions second prize expired last week, and on the same night as the $160 million Powerball drawing, a $900,000 winning ticket from Florida is scheduled to expire.

The biggest loser on record came from Connecticut in 1996, when Clarence Jackson from Connecticut turned in his winning ticket three days too late, missing a $5 million jackpot.
POWERBALL WINNING NUMBERS FOR WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 3, 2011

(13, 19, 21, 28, 49 and Powerball: 11 x2)

ABC News reported that New Jersey Assemblywoman Bonnie Watson Coleman plans to introduce a bill that will give more people other means of checking their numbers. She wants to bring back live New Jersey lottery drawings on its public access channel, "to continue greater access for people.”

But the president – who in recent weeks was battered by the debt standoff that ended with a deal no one liked – seems determined to enjoy the milestone.

On Wednesday, he took aides to have burgers at an eatery on Capitol Hill before leaving Washington briefly for a campaign fundraiser in his adopted home town of Chicago. Supporters paid up to $38,500 to join him to hear him joke he would soon have a reminder from a national organisation that helps the over-50s have "independence, choice and control" in ways that "are affordable to them and society as a whole".

"By the time I wake up, I'll have an email from AARP asking me to call President Obama and tell him to protect Medicare," said Obama on the eve of his half-century. Happy birthday was inevitably sung, by a group from North Carolina, and there was music from Jennifer Hudson, Herbie Hancock and the band OK Go,a rock band originally from the windy city but now based in Los Angeles. Its presence presumably was not meant as a message for the president, rather encouragement to reignite in his re-election campaign the spirit that so memorably took him to the White House. He may, however, take hear from their new EP, All is Not Lost.

At a small dinner for high-dollar donors later, Obama revealed he already knew of one very important present waiting for him in back in Washington on Thursday. His oldest daughter, Malia, was coming home from camp to celebrate his birthday.

The festivities back in the capital were to include a toast from senior staff in the White House's blue room, followed by a party with family and friends. An administration official said the Obamas would be footing that bill.

The president then plans a weekend trip to Camp David, the presidential retreat in Maryland.

WEST HARTFORD (WABC) -- Police in Connecticut are investigating a disturbing find at a couple of coffee shops.

Authorities in West Hartford say they found hidden cameras in the restrooms of a Starbucks and a Cosi.

Police passed out flyers warning merchants about the recent acts of voyeurism.

Employees are asked to do regular checks of bathrooms to see if there is anything suspicious.

The Cosi manager checked the bathroom after seeing a news reports about 51-year-old Paul Deveau, of Hartford, who is charged with voyeurism in the Starbucks incident.

Deveau is due to appear Aug. 11 in Hartford Superior Court.

Police do not know if Deveau was connected to the camera at Cosi, and he has not been charged in connection with it.
He was 66.

The cause was not yet known, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County coroner’s office said, adding, “There is no indication of anything other than natural death."

The 6-foot-7 (or possibly 6-foot-8), nearly 300-pound Smith, a defensive lineman, was the No. 1 draft pick for the Baltimore Colts in 1967. He spent nine seasons in the N.F.L., playing on two Pro Bowl teams, in 1970 and 1971. In 1971 he helped propel the Colts to a 16-13 victory over the Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl V.

Traded to the Oakland Raiders before the start of the 1972 season, Smith played two seasons with them before winding up his career with the Houston Oilers. He retired after the 1976 season.

Afterward, Smith made a career of playing rather large men on film and television. He was best known for his role as Moses Hightower, the mild-mannered florist-turned-lawman in the film comedy “Police Academy” (1984) and many of its sequels.

He starred in the short-lived TV crime series “Blue Thunder” (1984) and had roles on many other shows, including “Good Times,” “Charlie’s Angels,” “Semi-Tough,” “Hart to Hart,” “Married With Children” and “Family Matters.”

He was also seen in a well-known series of Miller Lite commercials — “Tastes Great; Less Filling” — in the 1970s and ’80s.

Charles Aaron Smith, known since childhood as Bubba, was born in Beaumont, Tex., on Feb. 28, 1945. His father coached the high school football team on which he played; the elder man’s techniques, Bubba Smith told The New York Times in 1971, included whacking his son with a board he brought to the field for that purpose. What redeemed these episodes, the son said, was that “he didn’t holler.”

Smith played defensive end at Michigan State, where his size and prowess gave rise to the chant “Kill, Bubba, Kill,” which emanated frequently from the stands. He was named an all-American in 1965 and 1966.

As a senior, Smith took part in what came to be called the “game of the century” — one of several games so designated in the annals of college football — played at home against Notre Dame on Nov. 19, 1966. Smith sacked and knocked out Notre Dame quarterback Terry Hanratty in the first quarter, and the game ended in a 10-10 tie.

Smith was the author, with Hal DeWindt, of the book “Kill, Bubba, Kill!,” published by Simon & Schuster in 1983. In it, Smith intimated that Super Bowl III — in which his highly favored Colts lost to the upstart Jets under Joe Namath — was fixed, although he supplied no evidence. Smith’s assertion drew fire in the news media.

Information on Smith’s survivors was not available. (His brother Tody played for the Dallas Cowboys, the Oilers and the Buffalo Bills.)

Smith was named to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988. Michigan State retired his number, 95, in 2006.

For all his acclaim, Smith, drawing on the teachings of his father, was philosophical about his abilities.

“He taught us to be humble off the field,” Smith told The Times in 1969. “Inside, I’ve got to feel I’m the best, but if I tell you I’m the best, then I’m a fool.”
