I'm a firm believer that spam should be included in the basic food groups. I can actually attest that I can have them at any time of the day, and never get tired of it. Then one day, my friend Yen tweeted me about a certain Mister Musubi that's from Hawaii and told me I had to try it.

My Musubis arrived!

Mister Musubi's products are Spam Musubis. Spam what? A brief background, musubis are like sushi, only they are topped with spam instead of fish. They use of Japanese rice that is cooked to steaming perfection and shaped into a square. On the top is filled with a slice of Spam goodness and wrapped in a roasted seaweed. See how it looks like a sushi? Only Spam Musubi is bigger and less fishy.

Mister Musubi originated in Hawaii but is eaten in the tradition of a Japanese omusubi. What makes it taste so good is because of their ingredients and they make their own sauces. Musubis are also hand-made individually. Its also fresh, that when you want one, you need to pre-order it so they could make them for you. I attached their Menu above for orders.

I was so lucky to get invited to Sabrina's Bloggers Evening last January 30 at Red Box Eastwood. One of MCA Music Inc.'s prized gem, she recently released her single "Moves Like Jagger" from her platinum album in Indonesia, I Love Acoustic 4.

I've never really known Sabrina that well after her blogger's night. Sure, I may have heard her rendition of Umbrella before, but after hearing her California King Bed version, I was an instant fan. :) Sabrina is more than a just pretty face. She admits that she's not the biritera in her family, for her sister was more of the singer. And unlike some of the singers who would practice their craft before studies, Sabrina was an A-list student and graduated Communications while taking vocal coaching. Truly, all her hard work paid off as her I Love Acoustic 4 album now reaches Platinum award in Indonesia. Her album is also released in Thailand and soon in Singapore and Malaysia, as well as her former albums who are doing well at the Southeast Asian market namely, I Love Acoustic, I Love Acoustic Too and I Love Acoustic 3.

Book Review: Lumayo Ka Nga Sa Akin by Bob Ong

Bob Ong is definitely one of my favorite Filipino authors. And despite his anonymity, his books always sell like pancakes because of his humor and the social responsibility that is imbibed in his creations. After "Ang Mga Kaibigan ni Mama Susan, he released his new book, "Lumayo Ka Nga Sa Akin", that is sure to be a laugh and a half.

Lumayo Ka Nga Sa Akin looks like a typical Pinoy pocketbook at the cover. But once you see the image, you would notice how funny the picture is. The stories are shown in subtext and script form. Thanks to fellow blogger, FPJ, he informed me about this book during the Mikey Bustos Press Launch.

The book is separated into three chapters: (1) Bala sa Bala, Kamao sa Kamao, Satsat sa Satsat, (2) Shake, Shaker, Shakest and (3) Asawa ni Marie. The first story, Bala sa Bala... stars Diego and Divina Tuazon. Its theme is action/romantic/comedy/drama. Shake, Shaker, Shakest is a thriller/comedy story about a family living in an abandoned mansion. Lastly, Asawa ni Marie is a "Marimar" parody with other romantic stories on the side.

Overall, Lumayo Ka Nga sa Akin is a comedic book that makes you laugh real hard, while reminiscing your favorite movies or Tagalog series. While it targets to tickle your funny bone, Bob Ong never fails to instill some of the serious current events in the country that needs attention to. One of them is patronizing foreign books instead of the locally released and the importance of education for the children. Its a light read and you can finish it in a day.

So if you're into satirical themed books, Bob Ong's Lumayo Ka Nga sa Akin is definitely the one to buy. Retails at Php175 in bookstores nationwide. Happy reading guys!

Yabu: The House of Katsu Experience

I've been hearing a lot of good reviews about Yabu: The House of Katsu for a quite some time. Good thing my office is now near Megamall, so my new officemates Steph, Jess and I went last week and had a satisfying lunch. Its as good as saying, we didn't even know how we'd go back to our building because we were all so full.

Yabu: The House of Katsu is located at the 2nd Floor of Megamall Atrium. Back from the reviews I read, the wooden walls are actually sake cups joined together. At the left wall was a black and white Anime illustration. I just love the feel of creativity!

Kurubota Tonkatsu Set

Jess ordered the Kurobuta Tonkatsu Set. We were so fascinated how big his tray was, filled with so much food! You have to prepare their special sauce to actually enjoy the Pork Tonkatsu. I love how their Katsu are crunchy and very crispy. We also noticed the huge portion of cabbage. When their team saw that Jess' plate was out of cabbage, they refilled it instantly. Its like having unlimited breadsticks on a pasta, only, cabbage is much healthier.

Chicken Curry

After browsing their menu, Steph ordered the Chicken Curry Katsu Meal. Again, this set meal comes with fruits, miso soup and cabbage. She let me taste it and it was pretty good. I love the flavor of the sauce. When you look at it, you'd mistake it for gravy but its curry taste made all the difference. Again, this is yummy and I made a mental note what to eat on our next visit.

Lastly, I ordered the Chicken Katsudon Set Meal. At first, I thought it would just be a Katsudon bowl (like in the other Japanese restaurants I've been to) but when I saw my tray, I fell in love. Its affordable in price and their serving is quite huge. And I also get to have fruits and cabbage in it.

I am now an official Yabu convert! Good thing we saw this when we were craving for something delicious for lunch. 5 stars for everything we ate that day and their accommodating service too. Its always nice to discover great food and quality service.

My Cactus Heart is a "Thorny" Romantic Comedy Movie this 2012

We all get hurt, heartbroken and get afraid when it comes to love, but there's this one person who would make it all worth it. This January 25, Star Cinema presents its first movie offering for 2012, starring Maja Salvador, Matteo Guidicelli and Xian Lim.

Last Saturday, a bloggers conference was set at Max's Scout Tuason for the romantic comedy in the start of 2012. Lead stars Maja Salvador and Matteo Guidicelli were present with their director, Mr. Enrico Santos. We all had a nice chat with the stars and how they all get so mushy on and off cam. And I must say, these two has a really great chemistry together. I guess its because they're together in real life that they almost know each other's personality.

Asked if how will this be different from other romantic comedy movies, they all believe that Maja suits the perfect role for Sandy, the lead character. Most of the lines from the movie came from her (even the title) and some of the scenes are just naturally her. She's so versatile that she can shift from comedy to drama to horror or romance.

My Cactus Heart's plot is about Sandy (Maja Salvador) who doesn't believe in happy ever after. Because she came from a broken family, when she feels that she's getting close to a person, she'd dump the guy then and there so she wouldn't get hurt. Karlo (Matteo Guidicelli) falls in love with her and was so determined to get the girl, even pulling dangerous stunts just to win her heart. But when things are getting good, Bene (Xian Lim) also tries to impress Sandy with his good-boy charms. With a very complicated past and two guys fighting over her, who would Sandy choose? And will she ever believe that happy endings exist?

Last Sunday, SM City North EDSA hosted an early Chinese New Year celebration hosted by Chris Tiu at The Block. It was a fun-filled afternoon and hopefully a lot of luck in the coming year of the Dragon.

At the beginning, the history of the Chinese Spring Festival was told by Chris Tiu, with Richard Yap (My Binondo Girl) as the Chinese Emperor. It was then followed by a song number by the Chinese Symphony Orchestra.

The story continues and demonstrations of Wushu were presented as the Emperor wanted the Chinese dwellers to fight for their kingdom. A dragon and lion dance were also presented to everyone. It is necessary to ward off bad luck and for good fortune to come in.

Outside the SM City North EDSA, Chinese Icons Collectors Exhibit featuring Bruce Lee and Jet Li can be viewed and booths of Chinese charms and ornaments bazaar are within the premises. And of course, the Spring Festival will not be complete without the Chinese delicacies by Polland.

Since I started trying to eat (and drink) healthy, milk teas are a thing of joy for me. Not only because its yummy, they're also made of organic ingredients. During our Blogger Manila Year-End Meetup, Jonel introduced Marj and I to Bon Appetea at Strata, Ortigas.

What I loved about Bon Appetea was despite its quaint space at Strata 2000, they have a lot of selections to choose from. And they don't limit to a single flavor, their mixes are love. I first tried the large Wintermelon Tea with Cheese Foam (Php110). It was actually soothing because of the cheese flavor, plus the Pearl Topper (Php10) was a perfect addition.

My Blueberry Yogurt Tea!

After trying the Foam Blend, I then ordered the Blueberry Yogurt Tea (Php70, 16oz.). It was a perfect sweet and sour taste that I actually wanted another one. Their other flavors for Yogurt Teas are Passion Fruit, Mango, Kiwi and Lemon. To set them apart from other milk tea places, Bon Appetea also serves hot teas.

For my last tea, I tried Fire and Ice, a combination of Ceylon tea, strawberry, kiwi and aloe. The taste was good but I was expecting a sweet one. I guess I enjoyed the Yogurt tea among the teas I've consumed. I just hope they'd open a nearer branch at Megamall so I could regularly buy more from them.

2011 was full of extraordinary memories. And of course, here I am with my year ender special. SPECIAL? :P Seriously now, as I face 2012, I hope for the very best. But tonight, as I repeat the rest of my year, I hope you bear with my nostalgia :)

JANUARY

I faced New Year 2010 alone. But come 2011, I was with Jeff. Our first New Year together. I also had the chance to become very close with my RSB friends, Khamz and Kara. After our Chinatown trip, we went to watch then-Willing Willie with Sir Hec. It was also the first time Jeff and I celebrated his birthday together. And before the month ends, I got the chance to celebrate UST's 400th year with my classmates :)

FEBRUARY

Had my freelance job with Allan because of Karch, spent our first Valentine's Day together, my last Chinese New year celebration with RSB where I had to wake up early for a fun run that I didn't run in. :P My first Barre2 session courtesy of Belle de Jour.

MARCH

Jeff's grandmother, Nanay Percida said farewell to her family. Had our "uwian" trip to Baguio. Attended the Pyromusical Competition at MOA with my bestfriend Mercie and her whole family. Had my first "cooking event" with Yoshinoya and Century. YGC's 100th Anniversary Celebration where the whole Enchanted Kingdom was closed down for our whole day event.

My last Christmas Party with RCBC Savings Bank, HTC's Year end party with Karch and Krystle, saw Mario Maurer in person at Penshoppe's Encore, attended the Samsung's Year End Party and I won a LAPTOP!, went to my former department at Fortune Care's party, my last party with CPCMD and CCMS, went to the BPI x David Salon's event, had lunch at Summer Palace, EDSA Shangrila with my RBG Family, had two despedida parties in one day - first at the office, second at Serendipity, Discovery Suites

See? I had an eventful year with me. All filled with good and not so good memories. But if 2011 taught me anything, it led me to more life changing decisions and showed me who my real friends are. And of course, although we had ups and downs, life with Jeff is lovelier every second.

For now, I hope that 2012 would bring us more luck, love and life! I can't wait for the next year to start, for it is another page ti be filled with great opportunities and more memories.

2011 was the year that I learned to fight. Not in bad way of fighting, but on how I address the people who tend to criticize me online. I stood upon my principles and did my best to not feel inferior. In the end, they stopped sending me anonymous messages and hate mails slowly decreased. In that instant, I feel empowered and wrote more stories that I hoped would be inspirational to many.

And because there are a lot of avenues for information, we all should learn to SPEAK UP this 2012. After all, its a new year, and new hope springs among us all.

WE SHOULD SPEAK UP BECAUSE OF MISINFORMATION

Last week, a friend of mine posted in his Facebook Timeline that one of my favorite singers, Bon Jovi, died recently. Of course, my initial reaction is to get sad, but then as an instinct, I had to research about the story. It was only a few Google searches that I found out that the news is not true, and he is in fact very much alive. Imagine if thousands have already mourned for someone who isn't even taken away yet, wouldn't you SPEAK UP and correct these to avoid happening again?

WE SHOULD SPEAK UP AGAINST CYBER BULLYING

Celebrities are easily pawned for numerous criticisms and harsh remarks. Because they are the ones who are in the limelight, people can just comment all they want, without actually knowing the kind of person they are bullying. But what if you're just an ordinary citizen? We must always realize that everyone is equal when it comes to dealing with one's feelings. One example is Christopher Lao's mishap during the Quezon City flooding. If we were in his shoes, its already unfortunate that he got into that situation. We must SPEAK UP to protect the feelings of other people in times of bad luck.

WE MUST SPEAK UP AGAINST PLAGIARISM

As a Journalism graduate, plagiarism is always a no-no. During my first year in college, a girl once copied my seat work, thinking our professor wouldn't read our work. And then one day, I found myself meeting my professor after class because she wanted to suspend both of us for copying each other's work. I was shocked because I worked hard, but instead of a recognition, I was facing a permanent record on my transcript. If my friends did not SPEAK UP and told our professor that it is really mine, I would have been dismissed at my college and the rest of my writing career is history.

WE MUST SPEAK UP TO FIGHT FOR OUR BELIEFS

Starting the day we were born, God has given us a heart to feel and a mind to decide. Being silent about a certain issue might be a smart move for some, but in order to get the change that we long for, we should start speaking up because we do not deserve less. Especially for the honest people that we are.

WE NEED TO SPEAK UP TO FIGHT FOR OUR RIGHTS

Each of us is entitled to our own rights. Once it is taken away from us, they take away our free will. We need to SPEAK UP because our rights are part of our wholeness. We are born with it and we must protect them so we could be in control of our future.

We should SPEAK UP because we are better individuals if we learn to fight for our beliefs, our individuality, and our errors make us real people. It shouldn't matter which race or religion you come from, but this 2012, let us start to pick up from our mistakes and prevent getting less. You deserve better. You deserve to SPEAK UP!

OOTD: 'Tis The Season to Be Jolly

Happy Holidays Everyone!

Its only a few days more until Christmas! I am a certified child at heart. At 26, I still believe in Santa Claus, reindeer and elves. Silly right? That is why for our Christmas Party, what better way to portray Santa than to copy his clothes' colors.

Two days before our "Red and White" party, I still couldn't find which dress to wear. I've scoured every mall, thrift shops but I was so unsuccessful in finding a.) a red and white dress, b.) the dress that would fit my size and c.) something that will fit my budget. I needed to find an affordable dress because I don't want to spend much this time, as I am resigning with our company (and this counts as my last Christmas Party with RCBC Savings).

My friend Malyn, finally gave in to my request and went with me at 168 Shopping Mall. Since it is near our place, I spent three hours there and thankfully found this dress at one of the boutiques. At less than a thousand pesos, I bought this red/white/black/pink dress with the Santa belt and found a pair of white flats that costs only a hundred bucks.

Since his movie, "A Crazy Little Thing Called Love" as P'Shone, I've been a fan of the Mario-Fern team up. Mostly because we can all relate to their love story and the things they do during high school. That's why when Jonel asked me to cover this event tomorrow for CosmoManila, I said yes, in a heartbeat!

I love Prive! But anyhow, this is what I wore during the Smart X Nokia N9 launch.

Good thing Jonel informed us beforehand that dress codes are strictly followed at Prive, so its time for the blue Forever 21 dress to be worn again. Since I have flabby arms and wide hips, tube dresses are love because I can easily fit in them, without having to stretch too much of my bones while prepping up.

And as I mentioned that I hate my arms, I always wear a bolero to hide them. :) Again, I used my floral wedges because I feel confident with them. And it gives me the height that I've always wanted. To think about it, its very convincing that I'm tall, when I'm actually not.

'Tis the season to shop again! Oh, Forever 21 Philippines is on sale until December 4. I've been there and seen nice clothes that are great for the holidays. :)

Well, his Imaginarium is in a frenzy and the only way to turn the lost wishes and forgotten dreams into the happiest of all candies, is to find the magical rainbow. So from December 1-4, Candy Corner, in partnership with Wonka invites us to the doors of an enchanted factory that harvests dreams and turns them into candies!

The Grand Atrium of the Shangrila mall will hold a four-day exhibit that puts the spotlight on Wonka candies by the Wonka Imaginarium. This will allow us to bring our candy fantasies to life. You will be walking into a magical forest and enter a tunnel of lost wishes and forgotten dreams.
