I am in love with this toy site!! Not only do they offer free shipping on orders over $75.00 but they also have a refer a friend program. When you refer a friend and after they have made their first purchase you get $5.00 and they get 10%! Wait it gets better! They also have a special section for special needs toys which I found to be incredible. I have never been on a toy site that has a special section for special needs children then again maybe I never looked! I have mentioned this area of their site to a friend who teaches special needs children. Speaking of teaching there is also an area for Educators. It is a wild marble ride down the side of your refrigerator. We LOVED this and yes I said we because they whole family has played with this! My youngest was the first one to try out our new toy, that is after I cleared the side of the refrigerator of all his art work. He played with it for about an hour which is great for a child who is ADHD! It was trial and error with him trying to get everything just perfect so the marble would continue the whole course!

WIN IT!!! Does it meet industry standards?

Like every parent I am concerned about the safety of our toys. Not only what they are made of but are they safe for the recommend age, or the big question...have they been recalled?? Or not sure what toy meets the toy industry standards? Did that toy you child has been begging for win an award??? It can all be so over whelming but fear not there are a few places to go to find out about toy safety and what the best toys of the year are.

The Toy Industry Association (TIA) is the toy industry's trade organization: the one that hosts Toy Fair in February in New York , and the one who has led American toy makers through the new toy safety testing laws and standards they must meet. TIA is a not-for-profit trade association for producers and importers of toys and youth entertainment products sold in North America, representing over 500 companies who account for approximately 85% of domestic toy sales. Toy safety is the number one priority for the toy industry. TIA has a long history of leadership in toy safety including development of the first comprehensive toy safety standard more than 30 years ago, and working with government, consumers and industry on ongoing programs to ensure safe play. And now, TIA is reaching out to parents to help us understand how to buy safe/great toys. They have created two websites for consumers. One is Toy Info . Check out this link to a video that provides tips for shopping for safe toys and how to keep your children safe with their toys after they're home. It is a must watch even for us veteran moms! This site is filled with tons of useful information and is updated regularly as needed!

Wondering what toy to get your child, niece, nephew or grand children then go to Toy Awards it showcases the top toys in 11 product categories that have been nominated for the 2010 Toy of the Year Awards (TOTY). Recognized as the “Oscars®” of the toy industry, the awards program is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. The TOTY winners will be announced on February 13, 2010 at a banquet and ceremony in New York City, officially kicking off American International Toy Fair. I loved the layout of the site, super easy to navigate plus there is downloadable PDF holiday shopping list! There is also a contest going on right now! Simply pick your your favorite toy in each of the 11 toy categories, from among 6-7 finalist products in each category. At the end of the survey you will be given the opportunity to win ALL THE TOYS in the category of your choice. (Winner will be announced on 2/13/2010)

I have been to both sites SEVERAL times as I shop for toys for not only my boys but for my 4 year old niece and 2 year old nephew and soon to be here grand niece/nephew(hubby's niece is due ANY DAY NOW) They are a wealth of information and I recommend you pay them a visit!

On the fifth day of Christmas....Hugg-A-Planet review and giveaway

Welcome to day five of 12 days of Christmas my2boyz style.

When I was given the opportunity to review HUGG-A-PLANET from Peace Toys I was thrilled! Both of my boys are very much into maps. At my 12 year olds school conference his history teacher said "Tony is super freaky smart, especially when it comes to maps, I tell him to reference maps in class and he never needs to. At first I thought ya right, but he gets it right 99.9% of the time. I am very impressed" This child has been obsessed with maps since he new what a map was and what it was for. That curiosity has rubbed off on his little brother who has asked for a road atlas from Santa. Let me tell you when the Hugg-A-Planet's arrived there were squeals of delight from my 6 year old who said right away "A globe I can snuggle and sleep with, thank you for blogging this mommy you are the best" We were sent the Earth and Moon which is not only soft, cuddly and the cutest thing I have ever seen but it is an accurate globe!

The moon sticks on the earth with Velcro and can be tucked away inside earth! My 6 year old got a kick out of that!

We were also sent Hugg-a-Planet Mars

This also is an accurate globe of Mars, how cool is that? My 12 year old was amazed with this, he found a map he did not know, he has been studing it for a while now and i am sure it has it memorized!

Not only did the Hugg-A-Planet line win the "Best 25 of 25 years" award for Parents Choice Awards but the line is also recommended by The National Association of Gifted Children. The coolest thing is that the Hugg-A-Planet Earth, Hugg-A-Moon and Hugg-A-Planet Mars will circle the Earth for many years to come! They will make a full orbit around the Earth every 90 minutes on the Space Station and will stay there for as long as the space station remains active, at least till 2016, and will orbit the Earth 5860 times every year! My boys were in AWE when I told them that! NASA chose the Hugg-A-Planet globes as a space-based teaching tool because of their geographic accuracy and soft construction. They also can be tossed around like a ball or used as a pillow which is perfect for zero gravity!!!

I was very impressed with the softness of the Hugg-A-Planets, I had expected them to be firmer but LOVE that they are not! My 6 year old has been sleeping with the Earth, Moon and Mars every night! I have even found myself grabbing them and snuggling with one on the couch as I watch TV.

Some of the other other Hugg-A-Planets include Baby Hugg-A-Planet Earth, Hugg-A-Star and Hugg America. The Hugg-A-Earth also comes in a super size! Go check out their web and see what else they have to offer, you are going to want all of it!

Now for some GREAT news. One of my readers will win the Hugg-A-Planet Earth and Moon and the Hugg-A-Planet Mars!

Here are the rules!

You must visit the Hugg-A-Planet/Peace Toys web site and tell me something you learned other then what I posted in my review! We were sent the K'nex 400 Piece Value Tub and when it arrived it was greeted by two very anxious boys. If you are not familiar with K'nex then you need to get with the program! They are the next generation of construction sets. This set consisted of several sizes of rods, building blocks, wheels and 13 different types of connectors making the possibilities endless!

The boys very quickly opened the little bags that held all the pieces, flipped open the building idea book, decided on a project together (shocking I know) and went to work with the help of Dad who seemed just as excited as the boys were! I love great toys that the whole family can enjoy TOGETHER!! Here is the Rocket Ship they built making a landing on the runway that my 6 year old added to the project because we all know Rocket Ships need a place to land!

The set is geared for ages 7 and up but my 6 year old had no problem following the directions and manipulating the little pieces. There were 10 different building suggestions in the guide and instructions on how to find more on the K'nex web site which is amazing. There are areas for parents and educators, a K'nex club, product guides and of course an online shop-K'nex Direct. K'nex gives back 10% of all sales on K'nex Direct to the Children's hospital of Philadelphia and there is free shipping on all orders over $100.

Here is an example of what else can be built with K'nex

This a replica of the Ferris Wheel at Navy Pier in Chicago, it is in one of the gift shops, trust me when I say this pictures DOES not do it justice, it was quite impressive and was actually spinning!

All K'nex are made in the USA in Hatfield, PA! I LOVE things that are made in the USA!!

Wonder how the idea of K'nex came about?? It began when founder and now Chairman Joel Glickman was playing with straws. He was at a wedding and started messing around with some straws and thinking about the possibilities, obviously a little bored? :)

K'nex would be the perfect gift for any age child on your list as they also have building sets geared towards toddlers that have a Sesame Street Theme and sets for the child who is 5+. If you are looking for a toy that will provide hours of entertainment then K'nex is for you!

See you tomorrow for day five of my 12 Days of Christmas!

K'nex provided me with the product to review through my affiliation with Team Mom. The opinions stated are mine and just that my opinion.

Some of our Holiday activites

I will be back later today for day four of my 12 days of Christmas my2boyz style. From toxic paint and toxic plastic it is hard to figure out what is safe and what is not when it comes to purchasing toys for our children. Recently I was introduced to a new fabulous web site Maukilo.com. First I must say we LOVE watching MythBusters and my boys LOVE anything to do with science so there was some excitement surrounding this when it arrived in the mail. However when it came time to play with it my 6 year old was the only one who showed interest!

The kit comes with an Activity guide that gives you clear step by step directions and some fun facts tossed in. My younger son had fun but lost interest quickly and was not interested in busting any myths.

The only compensation received for this review post is a sample of the product from Team Mom.

I was SO EXCITED to watch Nip Tuck last night, the season premier. I love Nip Tuck, yes I know it is a bit twisted and over the top but I love it none the less. I had the DVR all set to record as it is on when my 12 year old is still up, not quite the type of show one would want a child to see. So the second he was in bed the TV went on I was ready.

Christan was his usual self, an ass and Sean was his wimpy self, it was great!!! Matt was going to be a mime, if he were my son I would have smacked him...HARD!!!

I was enjoying it so much, fast forwarding through the commercials then it happened...I had to do a double take...was it? Could it be??? Yep...Mario Lopez....EEEWWWWW!!!! Yes the one and only form Saved by the Bell! I was MORE THEN DISAPPOINTED...WTH??? Why Mario Lopez? He is an AWFUL actor and that cheesy smile, I would love to smack it off his face. His character was bizarre but what else would you expect from Nip Tuck?

So there I was torn between turning it off and watching the rest, yes that is how much I dislike Mario. It was a struggle, I decided to watch the rest and I am glad I did. I am so scared to do a search and see if Mario is a permanent fixture at McNamara/Troy, what if he is??? I do not think I could handle an hour a week with him....I might need to find another show? We will see...any one watch it? Your thoughts???

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!????? As I am writing this I am watching Regis and Kelly...guess who one of the guests is??? YEP..Mario...can I not get away from this man???? UGH!!!!!!!!

The diagnosis did not come to a surprise to us AT ALL. There is a family history of ADHD on both sides so the chance that we would have a child with ADHD was pretty high. I knew when I was pregnant with him that he was going to be a very active child, my instincts were right, he is active, I mean VERY!

With the diagnosis came the FEAR of not only labeling him but medicating him. I turned my my beloved Chiropractor for guidance and we came up with a game plan of diet and supplements. It worked, for a while. The thing is when it stopped working I was AT A LOSS, you see my beloved Chiropractor was killed in a plane crash in early June, my heart still aches when I think about it. I blogged about it here. Not only did I loose a friend but the only person I trusted regarding my son's ADHD. Now what???? I went to his business partner, not the same, I was disappointed and sad all over again. I felt like I had no one to turn to. My son's behavior in school was not getting better, in fact I had to pick him up early one day, they sent him home, could not deal with him. I had a conference with his teacher and the principal, I set up an appointment with his pediatrician .

My pediatrician is awesome! He said "medication is a band aid and I am recommending therapy." YIPPIE no meds! I was so excited that he said that. Now please don't get me wrong. I am sure there are those of you out there who have a great success with ADHD medication, I am happy for you I truly am, I would never judge your decision, it is just not for me.

So off to the Psychiatrist we go. We are there for less the one hour and guess what??? All he did was prescribe my 6 year old Aderall XR, NOT COOL! I was so confused and thinking well he knows what he is doing so off to the pharmacy I go feeling very uneasy and sick to my stomach. I get the prescription filled and walk out in tears.

For 4 days I stare at the bottle, opening it looking at the pretty colored capsules filled with tiny cute yellow balls. During those 4 days I did HOURS and HOURS of research on this mind altering controlled substance and what I read was enough for me to decide NOT to give it to him. One the the things I learned was that I could get some big money on any college campus for the pretty little pills! How INSANE is that? College kids are ADDICTED to Aderall and I was expected to give it to my 6 year old? It is also HUGE with models as it causes weight loss, my son weighs all of 46lbs, he CAN NOT afford to loose weight. Not to mention it could make him worse, cause depression and in rare cases could kill him. NONE of this settles well with me.

So here I am at square one again. I am researching and researching some more. I purchased 2 books and I am going to consult with a Holistic specialist and looking for a new therapist. That is all I can do. I am sick to my stomach everyday about this, about him, about how we as a family are going to help guide this beautiful child through his childhood. Trying to be more patient and understanding, you can not punish a child for something he has no control over. He is not "out of control" all the time. He is the sweetest little boy who asks me to marry him at least once a week because he loves me so much and never wants to leave me. He loves to cuddle and will not let us kill a bug in the house, he makes us catch it and let it go outside. He is so concerned with other peoples feelings and loves to please, he just has no impulse control, AT ALL.

So begins my journey into the complex world of ADHD.

The Shandle Review

Are you ALWAYS asking your children if they have washed their hands after using the bathroom? I have 2 boys and I am CONSTANTLY reminding them.

With Flu season upon us and fears of H1N1 I feel like I am after them always! So when I was contacted to review The Shandle I was excited! Not only did I think it would be a great reminder to wash hands but to also lift the toilet seat when the boys do their business. You see my 6 year old WILL NOT touch the toilet with his hands AT ALL! I have witnessed him NOT lift the toilet seat up and then flush with his foot. When I question him about it he says "It is gross to touch the toilet, you can get sick"
Him not lifting up the seat tends to be an issue in our house...EVERY TIME I need to use the restroom I must double check to make sure there is no tinkle on the seat and 9 out 10 times there is. This is especially wonderful in the middle of the night when I am 1/2 asleep and not quite thinking to check...yes I know gross right??

The Shadle comes to the rescue!

The Shandle is super easy to install and I had no problems doing it! You simply peel the backing off and stick it to your toilet seat, after you cleaned the surface of course.

It took me less then 20 seconds to install and should hold on for at least 6 months! I hope it brings me many a bathroom visit with a dry toilet seat! And what a cute gentle remider to wash your hands!

I showed it to my 6 year old and he said his is willing to touch The Shandle and will now make sure the seat is up. He is starting to read and told me it says "Wash your hands" so hopefully he will do so!

Go pay their web site a visit and purchase a few for your home and at less then $7.00 each you will be happy you did so!

A big thank you to The Shadle for the opportunity to review their awesome product!

The only compensation received for this review post is a sample of the product. It is a catchy little tune! :)

See The Zula Patrol in action for yourself on NBC on Saturday mornings or on qubo, check your local listings and cable line up and if you do not have qubo call your cable provider and ask for it! My son loves the qubo channel.

The 2 DVd's that we/he reviewed were

The Zula Patrol: Moons Mayhem- 6 episodes

Moon Struck,
Blue Moon
Going Through a Phase
Moons Mayhem
Three Ring Gorga
Me, Myself and Io

The Zula Patrol: Animal Adventures in Space!- 5 episodes

In Larvae or Leave Me

Egg Hunt
There Goes the Neighborhood
Choosing Sides
Camp Worm

As a parent I was very impressed with the wealth of information that is packed into each episode, I LOVE a children's show that actually teaches! There are very few of them out there anymore.

You must visit their web site as well, it should provide hours of entertainment not only for but for your child as well! It is very well thought out!

Guess what??? I have a copy of Moon's Mayhem AND Animal Adventures in Space to giveaway to one lucky reader! YES 2 DVD's!!!! how exciting!!!!

Here are the rules:

First entry, MUST do this or all other entries will be void

-Visit The Zula Patrol web site, look around and tell me what you like best about it!

Want extra entries? Well guess what? I have more people to thank. So here we go.....

Thank you to those of you who drive like IDIOTS on a certain road in my city. The speed limit in the city is 25 with the exception of a few places. The expressway, Calumet Dr and this one stretch of Taylor Dr between Erie Ave and Union Ave where the speed limit is CLEARLY posted as 45 mph. PEOPLE you have very few options to drive fast in our little city so WHY OH WHY do you go 30mph in a 45mph zone and then gesture to me as if I have done something wrong when I am UP YOUR ASS???? Can you not read? Well if that is the case then you should not be driving. I would not be so irritate if it did not happen 99% of the time I take that road, from now on I am going to avoid it like the plague.

Thank you to my 6 year old for opening the back window of the car with out my knowledge, it rained that night and HARD! So now my car smells all musty and his booster seat was wet for days!

Thank you to the idiot who video taped our mayor when he was obviously a little drunk and saying VERY inappropriate things. I don't agree with what he said, it was so out of line but come on! Put it on YouTube? That was VERY low and shame on our local paper for putting the video on their web site. HELLO!!! Vulgar language!!! Did I mention it made Leno? Nice we were in the opening monologue of his show. If I ever find out who you are.....I have a YouTube account as well, just saying. I bet you NEVER "talk like a guy" when you are drunk!

And the biggest thank you of all goes to 2 stores in my town!

Ah Shopko....the store I aways forget about, I paid you a visit today. I know it has been a while but this girl was on a mission to find stupid Zhu Zhu pets for my darling 6 year old. He has said this is ALL he wants for Christmas, why is he thinking that far ahead? Well he is 6! I arrive and bolt through the store, I was on a mission. Well...of course I could not find them so I ask the sales associate and this is what she tells me "Oh yes I know what you are talking about, we did have some on Saturday. We got like 50 of them in and one person came and bought all of them" OK maybe not fifty but I swear she said 30 but that is not the point. ARE YOU FRIGGING KIDDING ME??? THE hottest toy of the season and you let 1 person buy all of them??? I will be calling you tomorrow, I just might call the big old corporate office.

And then there is Wal-Mart. I have this love hate relationship with you, you know that. So when I went looking for the ever so elusive Zhu Zhu Pets and could not find them I was discouraged. When I went to check out the few items I had your lovely sales associate asks "Did you find everything OK?" I had to say "No". When I explained what I was looking for she said "Oh ya, I know what you are talking about, the manager bought what we had left saying this was THE hot toy of the season" WHAT THE.....I AM MORE THEN ANNOYED! Yes you too will be getting a phone call from me. Is there some sort of store policy against that?

I did find the Zhu Zhu Pets at TARGET! I love Target! I asked the wonderful sales associate Christine and they had some in back...SCORE one for mom and Target and zero for Shopko and Wal Mart!

ReBinder Review and Giveaway!!!

I adore all things green, this is no secret but there is something I adore just as much as green products...office and school supplies! Seriously I was.

I was sent the Back to School Kit, here is what it includes.

(1) 1.5” ReBinder recycled 3 ring binder
(2) ReBinder replacement covers
(6) RePouch recycled slash pocket dividers
(6) RePocket eco-friendly pocket folders
(2) ReWrite 5x8 recycled notebooks with lined paper
(2) ReWrite 8x10 recycled notebooks with graph paper
(2) ReWrite 8x10 recycled notebooks with blank paper
(3) ReMark eco-pens
(6) ReSleeve recycled CD sleeves
(3) RePlay recycled CD cases

I love the fact that the 3 ring binder metal part can be reused. When your binder gets beat up and worn and no longer usable you simply unscrew the metal parts and attach to their replacement cover and like magic you have a new 3 ring binder! The names are fun as well- ReWrite for the pens, ReWrite for the notebooks, ReSleve for the CD cases get it? Nifty isn't it?

My oldest son is in 6th grade and was more then happy to take the graphing paper, the notebook with the blank paper, most of the pocket folders, the 3 ring binder and I would only let him take 1 pen! Mean I know but I can be that way like I said I love office supplies! I was also able to snag the lined notebooks and the CD selves. My hubby grabbed the CD cases. So far we have been impressed! The note books are very sturdy, more so then most and the 3 ring binder and been personalized with the drawings of a 6th grader, to him that is the coolest thing. He said it was like a blank canvas and all notebooks and binders should be plain.

Here is some information from the companies web site:

Everyone has an impact on our earth. Safeway joined up with Warner Brothers to provide meals, snacks, cereals and juices you children will love and you feel good about giving. What makes this "groundbreaking" is the new Eating Right Kids line is the first broad product line to feature entertainment characters and be dedicated solely to a better for you eating philosophy. I do wish more companies would use this philosophy, children love to eat foods that have their favorite cartoon character on the box and most of the products that do have characters on them are far from healthy.

Not only are my children VERY picky as heck but we are very careful about what we feed them. We are not a house that has "fruit snacks", snack cakes, chips or candy. Don't get me wrong we do not deprive our children of these things we just very rarely have them in the house. So the fact that my children not only loved everything they tried but both of them asking for me to buy the Mixed Fruit Chewy Bars was a true miracle! A short lived one, as we do not have a Safeway in my area!

Here is what the boys tried:

Eating Right Kids Fruit cup-Mixed Fruit

Eating Right Kids 100% Juice- Apple

Eating Right Kids Chewy Bars-Mixed Berry

Eating Right Kids Whole Wheat Mini Ravioli with Beef

I would have taken a picture but as soon as I opened the box the children attacked and grabbed what they wanted. They had just gotten off the school bus and were "starving to death"

I packed the Ravioli in my older sons lunch the next day, he asked me to get more!

I would like to thank Team Mom, Safeway and Warner Brothers for this opportunity.

Future Lawyer?

A few nights ago I received a request from my 6 year old "Mommy, can we have McDonald's for dinner tonight? PLEASE"
My response "No honey we are grilling out tonight, dinner has been planned, maybe another time"
(We are not big fast food people, in fact I prefer to never go there and our oldest REFUSES to eat it. He knows it is not good for you!)
Well he was not going to take that answer "I will ask Daddy then, he will take me"
I responded with "go right ahead but I can bet he says no as well"
Just as predicted the answer was no and my child was not happy
About 15 minutes later I noticed he was on the couch and looked sad. "What's wrong?" I asked his response was "This is just the worst day ever in my whole life" I asked "Why do you say that?" He responds with "I can't have MC Donald's and you are mean"
OK...then.
A few minutes later I ask him to help daddy shuck the corn...no answer...I ask again. Then he comes running "I have an idea! I will shuck the corn if you take me to McDonald's!"
Again I say "No, I am not going to make that deal. How about you shuck the corn because I asked you to and you love me?"
"Nope, you are the meanest mom in the world" was his answer to that.
I know, I am the WORST! How dare I deprive my child of greasy chemical packed food, please don't judge me!
He comes back a few minutes later with the dollar bill the tooth fairy left him "I have money, I will pay for my own McDonald's"
"A dollar will not get you a Happy Meal" I say.
Then I see it, a glimmer in his eye, I know he is going to try another angle and yep he does.
"How about we have McDonald's for dessert?"
UGH! He would not give up AT.ALL. This went on for about 30 minutes, I am thinking he might make a good attorney! What do you think?

Is there a punch line?

I flew back east this summer to attended my 20 year class reunion in Connecticut. Instead of flying into Hartford I flew into White Plains for many reasons that I will get into in another post. If you have EVER been to White Plains you know it is right on the Connecticut border where Martha Stewart, Regis Philbin and I am sure MANY more of the rich and famous live. The airport is tiny but not with out an airports eclectic group of people.

I had just said good bye to my friend and I was crying, we had such a good time and I could not believe it was over and I was going to miss her. I was trying like hell to stop when I looked up and saw a gentleman dressed in all black with tattoos all over and LONG fingernails painted black. He was on the phone and talking rather loudly. He was on the phone with his fiancee, he was on his way to get married. He was dropping the f bombs ALL OVER THE PLACE and people were noticing. FINALLY he hung up with his lovely bride to be and the lady next to him stated to engage in conversation. I learned she was from Jamaica and was a true believer in God, she was not shy about telling anyone who would listen, including the man in all black.

Well it turns out he worships the devil, yep he said it, out loud, denounced God in front of a tiny terminal filled with people. Then a Hasidic Jewish man sits down next to the man in black. He is VERY quiet but I can tell he is listening and I am sure FREAKING out at what is going on!

Well Miss Jamaica keeps telling the man in all black how sorry she feels for him and asks what in his child hood made him turn away from the Lord. He did not have an answer but said he was respectful of others beliefs and he was not going to judge her, funny right? They talk for a while, she kept saying "May the Lord Jesus bless your marriage" I swear like 10 times. Then out of nowhere he starts going off about Michael Jackson like just because the woman is of color she knows him personally. He kept going on and on and on and on, it was too much! FINALLY my flight was called to board! I wonder how the rest of that conversation went.

Guess what? I took pictures! YEP I did. The woman next to me was laughing as I did it! I am sassy so here in 2 pictures is the story!

This was before the full conversation....

This is the Hasidic Jewish man during conversation!

A devil worshiper, a God fearing Jamican and a Hasidic Jew....but no puch line!
