Born and brought up in Plaistow, East London to a Jamaican mother and British/ Sicilian father, Jade’s upbringing has been, unusual, to say the least. Her dad is blind and her mum is partially blind and deaf. Being a carer to her parents and two younger siblings has given Jade a pragmatic outlook on life. Gendered Fashion, Power, and Sexuality
A History of Lingerie

From the Old French linge, meaning “linen,” the term “lingerie” was originally introduced into the English language as a euphemism for scandalous underclothing. While the actual term “lingerie” was not in widespread use until the late 1850s, lingerie as it implies general underclothing has a rich and elaborate history that consistently switches between the feminine and boyish as well as the painful and practical. From the laced corset “wasp waists” and “false buttocks” to the uplifted busts of the early 1990 supermodels, lingerie has helped define what it means to look beautiful while at the same time revealing a great deal about a society’s cultural and political values (Steele 2001). The history of lingerie, then, is a history of gendered fashion, power, and sexuality.

Ancient Lingerie: From Egypt to Rome

It is impossible to say exactly when the history of lingerie started, but it seems that the first record comes from ancient Egypt around 3000 B.C. In general, clothing was a status symbol for the Egyptians, and higher-ranking women would wear narrow tunics as undergarments that started below the chest, extended to the ankles, and were supported by a crosswise shoulder strap. Sometimes they would draw tunics around to the front of the body to mold the waist. Slave and servants wore no undergarments; they wore only simple loin cloths or went naked. Several female terra cotta figurines found throughout the ancient Near East appear to wear several different types of undergarments. One of them is a Babylonian girl from about 3000 B.C. who is wearing what might be considered briefs that look as though it could have been derived from the loin cloth. Another female figure from 2000 B.C., found in Crete, depicts the first recorded corset-like bodice and crinoline (a caged or hoped underskirt) that shoves the bare breast upward (Ewing 1972). Both are interesting in that they show similarities to lingerie eons later in the western world.

In classical Greece, several female statues wear a crossed band over their shoulders and across the breast, as in the famous statue of the charioteer at Delphi. The Odyssey and Iliad mention women’s undergarments, as does Herodotus, Aristophanes, and the later Hellenistic writer Lacian (Ewing 1972). In these texts, women are described as wearing a band of linen known as the zoné around the waist and lower torso to shape and control them. Other Greek words also appear to describe women’s undergarments, including the apodesmos (meaning a band, breast band, or girdle), mastodeton (or breast band, which actually flattens the bust) and, occasionally, mastodesmos (with a similar meaning) (Ewing 1972). These garments appear to presage the bra as well as the corset

Roman women followed Greek fashion closely. The Roman poet Martial describes a cestus, which is similar to the Greek zoné but wider, and Cicero also mentions a strophium or breast band. Other Roman terms describing women’s underclothing include the mamillere and fascia, which were tight bands of cloth that primarily supported the bust rather than the abdomen. A famous mosaic from A.D. 400 shows several women wearing what appear to be bikinis or briefs (Ewing 1972). For both the Greeks and the Romans, underclothing (which sometimes was worn as outer clothing as well) was designed more for function than exclusively aesthetic reasons.
Medieval Lingerie: The Chemise and the Corset Prototypes

During the Middle Ages, nobility wore linen clothes under expensive outer dresses to both protect their expensive clothes from dirty bodies and to provide a layer of warmth. Most noticeably, two enduring pieces of lingerie, the chemise (or smock) and later the corset, were introduced in the fourth and sixteenth centuries A.D., respectively. The chemise looked like a tunic that was gathered into a square or circular neck and was frequently embroidered. Typically women wore a chemise under petticoats and later corsets.

The prototype of the corset appears in a twelfth-century manuscript. This manuscript includes a depiction of the devil or “fiend of fashion,” represented as a woman (Steele 2001). The figure wears a tight-fitting bodice extending from the shoulder to below the waist and closely laced up in the front. While the figure is most likely wearing a tight-fitting bodice rather than a corset in its technical sense, the manuscript is notable in showing the increasing focus on displaying the body. In contrast to ancient dress, modern fashion as it emerged from Medieval Europe concerned itself with tailored clothing designed to follow the shape of the body, and women (as well as men) used tight-fitting undergarments to manipulate the shape of their bodies. For example, during the fourteenth century, women began wearing stiff linen under their bodice called a cotte, an early French word meaning “rib,” that flattened the breast. Woman used paste as stiffener between the two layers of linen to create a stiffer, harder bodice, creating the earliest form of the corset (Steele 2001).

Elizabethan Lingerie: Farthingales and Corsets

During the mid- and late-1500s skirts began to be made enormous by a “farthingale.” There were two types of farthingales, the Spanish and the French. The Spanish version probably started as a petticoat that was “boosted” by a series of graduated, corded hoops made out of cane, wire, or whalebone that accentuated a woman’s child-bearing attributes. During the late 1570s, the French version was introduced and it is the farthingale seen in many portraits of Queen Elizabeth. It consisted of a vast horizontal hoop worn at the waist but tilted down at the front to accommodate the elongated front of the stiffened bodice (Ewing 1972). Some Elizabethans wore a roll or sausage of stiffened material known as a “bum roll” around their waist and under their skirts to hold them out (Steele 2001). Fifteenth-century women also wore a “basquine” or “vasqine,” a laced bodice that a hooped skirt or farthingale was attached to.

The corset, arguably the most controversial garment in the entire history of fashion, was officially introduced when women began inserting rigid materials such as whalebone into the “busk” or “basque” of cloth bodices in the late sixteenth century (Steele 2001). The basque was a slot down the center front of the corset that was thicker at the top than at the bottom and could extend from above the bust to the waist. It was sometimes decorated with amorous images and phrases and was often used as a lover’s token.
The corset was often referred to as a “stay,” meaning “support,” perhaps implying the female body was naturally weak (Steele 2001). Scholars often discuss both the status symbol of the corset as well as its erotic appeal in the way it exaggerates the curves of a woman by making the breasts and hips protrude in an hourglass shape. The lacing of the corset is also often symbolic of sexual intercourse, and some theorists argue that the corset was a surrogate for the body itself (Steele 2001). The corset has had many dissenters ranging from doctors who argued the corset was responsible for causing miscarriages and deformities to feminists who argue the corset effectively repressed and victimized women (Kunzle 2004).

The French Revolution: Its Revolt against Underwear

The French Revolution in the late 1700s also revolutionized women’s lingerie. French women begin discarding petticoats, corsets, and camisoles as symbols of French aristocracy in favor of the “un-corset,” or a type of corset without stiffening. In a deliberate return to classic Greece, the birthplace of the freedom that revolutionary France was proclaiming, women sometimes would wear a band wrapped around the body similar to the Greek zoné under slim, high-waisted muslins that echoed Grecian rounded breasts and well-rounded figures (Ewing 1972).

The Victorians: Lingerie Innovators

The 1800s marked the end of the Napoleonic wars and the return of the boned corset. The high-waisted neoclassical dress with no stays was regarded as being part of the discord and promiscuity of the revolutionary era and, consequently, corseted fashion again surged in popularity. From the end of French Revolution to WWI, the aristocratic body became transformed into the feminine ideal that applied to all classes. While the Victorians are often seen as modest and prudish, they were the great innovators of underwear--and, not surprisingly, today's most famous lingerie line, Victoria’s Secret1, adopted the era’s name (Workman 1996).

For example, in 1829, the first steel-front busk fastening was created allowing women to put on or take off the corset without assistance. In 1830, the elastic corset was introduced offering more comfort. In the 1850s, the crinoline returned--though if a woman tripped and fell, the crinoline would embarrassingly spread out like 3-D fan, exposing her to all in her company (Steele 2001). Victorian England also introduced laced trimmings and embroidery, the frilled pantaloon, as well as the first silk underwear. The invention of steam molding and dye also allowed lingerie to be colored and ideally shaped.

Victorian fashion highlighted a woman’s body with exaggerated full sleeves, minuscule corseted waists, and whalebone hoops and crinolines covered with yards of fabric and enhanced by bustles. Taking it all off was quite a task, and both textual and visual accounts associate Victorian clothing with sexual anticipation (Kunzle 2004). Not surprisingly, this era spawned the first striptease shows. In 1876, garters that hooked to a woman’s stockings were invented and French dancers created great excitement when they showed glimpses of their garters stretched across their thigh. The garters were actually functional because they anchored the corset so that it could not ride up, allowing it to be worn in a less restrictive and tight manner (Steele 2001).

The invention of the bicycle and the walking dress in the Victorian age also spawned the creation of knickers and “drawers” that were attached individually to a deep waistband which fasted at the back. For the first time, women had a dual wardrobe and dual underwear, one for fashion and one for athletic pursuits (Ewing 1972).

Early Twentieth Century: From Corset to Brassiere

As women in the early 1900s participated in more sports and vigorous dancing, they began to throw out their corsets in favor of more comfortable brassieres. In 1913, Mary Phelps Jacob, later known as Caresse Crosby, felt the corset was too restrictive for dancing in the nightclubs and claimed she invented the bra by tying two handkerchiefs together with ribbons. In contrast to the Victorian whalebone bodices and corsests, Jacob’s brassiere was soft, short, and gave a clear, natural separation between the breasts. She later sold the patent to Warner Brothers. The tango craze in 1915--as well as World War I and, to a lesser and indirect extent, the woman’s movement--encouraged the demise of the corset. The farewell to tighter garments, however, was short lived as woman turned to the girdle to achieve the long, lean, and androgynous clapper look of the 1920s.
After the war, however, and during the Great Depression, bosoms returned. The “bra,” a shortened from of “brassiere,” changed from flattening breasts in the 1920s to accentuating them. In 1935, Warner Brothers introduced cup sizes, which acknowledged that women come in all shapes and sizes. The “alphabet bra” consisted of four cup sizes: A, B, C, and D. Double-D came along later and Double-A later still (Ewing 1976). During World War II, materials used to make undergarments, such as steel and rubber, were in short supply, so manufactures turned to synthetic materials which would eventually lead to Lycra, rayon, and Lastex.

1950’s-1970: Hollywood's Golden Age of Lingerie and Its Backlash

The 1950s brought engaging and amusing bras due in part to the film industry. Stars such as Lana Turner became known as the “Sweater Girl” because of her famous cone-shaped brassieres. Jane Russell even had a bra designed by aeronautical engineer Howard Hughes that famously accentuated her bust. The glamor of the 1950s once again valued the hourglass figure, and lingerie manufactures began to flourish and were soon launching their own brand names to build customer loyalty (Ewing 1972).

But the feminist and hippie movements of the 1960s and 1970s denounced lingerie as conformist and artificial. Bras in particular were seen as restrictive, uncomfortable, and mendacious and, famously, bra burning became a symbol of women’s liberation. The 1960s brought back the young, free, androgynous figure of the 1920s with women often wearing skimpy briefs and little else which allowed them to wear mini skirts and jeans (Steele 2001).

1980s to Today: Technology and the Wonderbra

By the late 1970s, cleavage made a return and developments in technology and fabrics led to more intricate and mass-marketed lingerie, including the Wonderbra2 which gave a “push up and plunge” effect. During the 1980s, padded and wire bras became top-selling items. Victoria’s Secret and La Perla3 lingerie lines grew in popularity as women demanded a soft and sensual style.

Currently there is lingerie for all situations and intentions, including lingerie that is padded, gel-filled, air-filled, strapless, and backless. Also offered are the sexy thong, teddy, chemise, and peignoir as well as a plethora of everyday bras and panties. Contemporary lingerie can be whatever women want it to be. From “granny panties” to G-strings to fetish wear, women have more choices now than at any time in history (Kunzle 2004).

Actually, one of our very first days of shooting, Gail Berman, who I have known for almost 10 years now, from Buffy, said that if we put a split screen of my face from the first episode of Buffy up next to the Mercy pilot, it's the same. I might have just gotten paler. I don't go out in the sun. I think there's a huge difference between the two characters, in the sense that Chloe is an adult. She's not a child, by any means. She went through nursing school. She has her master's degree. She has all of the credentials. She is a nurse and an adult, in every sense of those words. For me, I'm not shy or quiet. It's interesting for me to play someone who is such the opposite from myself because it's more challenging to keep that realistic. I also think that so many young women in the world are scared of the circumstances that they're in and are very insecure about different experiences that they may have, and I love being that character for women to say, "Yes, Chloe is scared." She's worried that she is literally going to kill someone, but there's optimism there. She can do it. So, I don't think of her as a child, or as annoying or whiney. And this can be cited as the reason for her tremendous success and popularity among the movie goers.

Sharon Vonne Stone, born March 10, 1958 in Meadville, Pennsylvania was the second of four children; of Dorothy an accountant and homemaker, and Joseph Stone, a tool and die manufacturer. When she was only 15 and studying in Saegertown High School, Pennsylvania and, she entered Edinboro State University of Pennsylvania, and graduated with a degree in creative writing and fine arts.

She was considered rather a smart kid, given her high IQ level and often asked to pursue a career in law. But the lure of movies got the better of her and she decided to walk on the uneven but yet interesting trail of movie Dom.

Career in Movies

In 1975, Stone entered and won the title of Miss Crawford County in Meadville. Later she shifted base to New Jersey in 1977 to live with an aunt, upon listening to the suggestion of one of the pageant judges that she should join modeling. She was soon signed by Ford Modeling Agency and appeared in TV commercials for Burger King, Clairol and Maybelline.

But it was while seeking more creative satisfaction that she landed up with her first movie appearance in 1980, in Woody Allen's Stardust Memories (1980). Later followed more tits and bits parts in movies like Wes Craven's horror movie, Deadly Blessing (1981), Action Jackson (1988), King Solomon's Mines (1985) etc. her moment of glory came when starred opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger in Total Recall (1990). This was also the time when she posed nude for the Playboy magazine.

But the major breakthrough that oscillated her to the topmost heights of Hollywood came when she signed up for bisexual serial killer in Basic Instinct (1992) opposite Michael Douglas. The movie made her a femme fatale among the masses and she automatically joined the creamy layer of movie industry. The controversial scene in the movie that became unwanted case of nudity on Sharon’s part alas! became a part of history. The fiery actress till date claims ignorance about the deal.

A series of movies followed where time and again she proved her mettle in roles essayed by her. In fact, she even won a Golden Globe Award in 1996 for Best Actress in a Dramatic Motion Picture for her role as "Ginger" in Martin Scorsese's Casino opposite Robert DeNiro. The actress also earned herself a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1995.

She also did a guest appearance in the popular law series The Practice and even won an Emmy award in 2003 for it.

Her second innings at box office didn’t set the cash registers jingling exactly. Her two major movies Catwoman (2004) and Basic Instinct 2: Risk Addiction 2006 bombed at the box office.

The actress is a firm believer n Buddhism which she recently started practicing after a brief link with scientology. She was earlier married to Michael Greenburg in 1984, but got divorced after just two years. She again married in February 14, 1998, Phil Bronstein and again got a divorce. She has adopted three kids so far, being Roan Joseph Bronstein Laird Vonne Ston and, Quinn Kelly.

Since then Sharon has been rumored to have bisexual inclinations. The actress, with the way things are going will surely deliver one more performance to top her already filled up good acting books.

Sharon Stone and Her New Boy Toy at Beso

Sharon Stone was wined and dined by her new boy toy last night at Beso restaurant in Hollywood. Chase Dreyfous, 24, is the 50 year old actresses latest hobby according to the most recent hot rumors. What was he doing when she was 24? He wasn’t born yet!

The two have been seen out and about recently. He is reportedly quite pleased with himself and has bragged to his pals, “I’ve started dating Sharon Stone and she’s pretty good for 50.”

We’re not sure if these pictures are Dreyfous or another of Stone’s Boy Toy’s. We’ve checkout out a few pics that are reportedly the new kid on the block and we just can’t make a positive ID. In any case, he’s tall, dark, handsome and decidedly younger than she is by several decades.

I always had the chance to do whatever I wanted to do, my parents were very open about that. Acting has been a passion of mine. I wanted to be in musicals as a kid, and took tap dance, so for me it's a dream come true, my childhood was filled with things that I loved to do, and also very normal things: I lived in New York, I have a family life and went to a regular school. It's a place of solace. I love London, it's an amazing city. I've met some wonderful people there and I also have some family there. I'm from New York, so I feel very at home in London. I don't think there's any kind of preparation for sudden celebrity. I think you almost have this slight nervous breakdown when that kind of media attention happens. I mean, you're doing the same kind of thing that you do all the time, only you have to make these weird adjustments. Everyone in Hollywood is so damn skinny and you constantly feel like you're not skinny enough. But I have 'fat days' and I accept that I'm never going to be rail thin. It's hard not to feel pressure in this industry and I already use anti-aging products on my skin. I try not to let the pressure get to me but Los Angeles is a very hard place to be unless you have people here that love you. It can be very, very lonely, and it can eat you up if you don't take care of yourself.

I was driving through Los Angeles and I look up and see the biggest photo of me I have ever seen in my life on a massive ad space. I screamed and slammed on the brakes. I couldn't believe it. It's very strange to see my cleavage the size of a brontosaurus. My breasts were huge. I had long hair and my goodness, I couldn't get past the cleavage.

I don't think human beings are monogamous by nature. It's difficult - you have to put a lot of effort into a relationship. I think it's hard for actors to date each other because they are so damn moody. You are away from people constantly and having a relationship that is strictly by phone, it is miserable. Or if you say to him/her, 'Hey, (even though) I am doing a very sexy scene with this very sexy girl/boy, I love you and I'm going to be thinking of you when I am rolling around in bed with this person!'

There was this rumor mill cranking out stories that I had lost 14 pounds -- I could never lose 14 pounds. I can't look at somebody who is 6 feet tall and 120 pounds and say, I'm going to get that body. That's just never going to happen. You have to work with what you've got.

[on her marriage to Ryan Reynolds] I never really thought about getting married - it just kind of happened. It seemed natural, the right thing to do. It was kind of a celebration of the time... Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris, France to parents, Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson. At the age of five, Emma's parents divorced and she then moved to Oxfordshire, England with her mother and younger brother, Alexander. I think it would be amazing if I would get to play beautiful parts and win Oscars, but that would all mean nothing if my parents and friends weren't there with me. What is success when you don't have anybody to love? No, I'd rather be happily married.

[On watching the earlier movies]: It's like baby photos... I look like a chipmunk!

I get sent Bibles. I have a collection of about 20 in my room. People think I need to be guided.

The most challenging aspect of this film was the fact that I was trying to take my A-levels at the same time I was filming. So my life was crazy. One minute I was on set, and the next minute I was doing an exam, or reading a textbook, or doing something, so I was a bit all over the place. Sometimes it's kind of hard to juggle both aspects of my life.

If someone asked me to do something that was beneficial to a cause, then maybe I'd consider it, but not just [to be able to say] 'Look at me! I've got my own line!'

Acting never was about the money for me. ... Maybe in 10 years, I'll be able to appreciate the fact that I am financially stable and independent and I don't have to make bad choices. I can be very picky.

Cheryl Ann Cole, neé Tweedy, (born 30 June 1983) is an English singer and member of the girl group Girls Aloud. She is married to the Chelsea and England footballer Ashley Cole[1] and in an interview with OK! Magazine published on 18 July 2006 she stated that she will be now be called Cheryl Cole.

Early career
She was born in Newcastle upon Tyne. Throughout her childhood she performed in a large number of modelling and fashion shows. She entered ballroom competitions, sang, acted and won a ballet competition.

She won the following competitions as a child: Boots bonniest baby, Mothercare Happy Faces Portrait competition, Best Looking Girl of Newcastle, The Evening Chronicle 'Little Miss & Mister' and Most Attractive Girl at the MetroCentre.

She appeared in two British Gas adverts, an SCS advert, and an Eldon Square Christmas advert with younger brother Garry. In addition to Garry, Cheryl has another two brothers and a sister.

Girls Aloud

She was working as a waitress when she entered the UK talent-search show Popstars The Rivals. In the final show she received the most votes in the poll to choose the girls for the all-female group Girls Aloud, and was thus the first to be picked for the group.

Nightclub incident and conviction
On 11 January 2003 Miss Cole was involved in an altercation with a nightclub toilet attendant, Sophie Amogbokpa, in the Drink nightclub in Guildford. Cole was subsequently charged with racially aggravated assault (she had allegedly called Ms. Amogbokpa a "black bitch" among other racial slurs) and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. During her trial Cole claimed she acted in self defence (claiming she had been punched first) and denied using racially abusive language.

The jury found her guilty of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, but cleared her of racially aggravated assault. The judge sentenced her to 120 hours of community service and ordered to pay her victim £500 in compensation, as well as £3000 prosecution costs.

Cole faced criticism not only for the initial incident, but also for showing no remorse whatsoever during the trial and for her subsequent public statements apologising to her fans, record company and bandmates but controversially refusing to apologise to Mrs Amogbokpa herself. Mrs Amogbokpa considered launching a civil court action, but decided not to proceed.

Miss Cole later claimed to regret the incident, saying she admitted she acted incorrectly under the influence of alcohol. She was angered by claims she was racist, citing her friendship with Javine Hylton on Popstars as apparent evidence she was not.

Media attention
Sometimes referred to in the press as "Chezza", she has gained celebrity status through her role in Girls Aloud and her good looks, coming second in the FHM 100 Sexiest Women poll in 2005, beating the likes of Britney Spears and her bandmates Sarah Harding and Nadine Coyle, only finishing behind Kelly Brook. In 2006, she finished sixth, while in January of the same year she topped a 'wish-list' poll run by Sun Online to identify the female celebrities that readers would most like to appear topless on the newspaper's Page 3. In July 2006 Cheryl signed a deal worth a reported £200,000 to become the face of Coca-Cola Zero for its UK launch. English singer Lily Allen has a song titled "Cheryl Tweedy", in which Allen states she wishes she looked like Cheryl Tweedy.

Consequently, her cache in the tabloids has been huge. For example, during a recording at Top of the Pops, Mike Skinner of The Streets dedicated his song "When You Wasn't Famous" to Cheryl, leading to much media speculation and many believing the song was about her. Skinner later correcting everyone by saying that he only dedicated the song to her because Girls Aloud were at the same taping of TOTP.

Cheryl co-presented the August 25, 2006 episode of The Friday Night Project along with Kimberley Walsh and Sarah Harding, where she did impressions of Sharon Osbourne and Big Brother 7 winner Pete Bennett.

During the Germany 2006 World Cup where Cheryl was supporting fiance Ashley Cole, Cheryl was continuously photographed with the wives and girlfriends of other England football stars, and they made media frenzy with their wild partying and shopping sprees. The British media deemed them the "WAGS" (wives and girlfriends), and highly criticized their wild antics. Cheryl later bashed the other WAGS, criticizing how they live off of their husband or boyfriend's money, and did no work themselves. She made it clear that she had a career with her band Girls Aloud before she ever met Ashley, and does not need to "borrow his plastic" when she goes shopping. However, she spared Victoria Beckham, stating that she's "witty" and "ambitious" and that they have a lot in common, particularly their careers in girl bands.

Ashley Cole
Even before marrying Ashley Cole, Cheryl won the title of "Sexiest Footballer's Wife" in FHM's 2006 Bloke Awards, and as Cole's fiancée she was a prominent "WAG" (acronym for "wives and girlfriends") during the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany. She however railed against the term, emphasising that she had her own career.

She and Cole were married at Wrotham Park, just north of Barnet, Hertfordshire on 15 July 2006 - although they were to marry at Highclere Castle, Berkshire (according to a guard at the premises). When the two changed their plans, Tweedy and Cole had asked the staff there to lie to the press and not to disclose the fact they weren't actually getting married there.

Lingerie is a term for fashionable and possibly alluring undergarments. The term in the French language applies to all undergarments for either gender. In English it is applied specifically to those undergarments designed to be visually appealing or erotic.

Origins

The concept of lingerie as visually appealing undergarment was developed during the late nineteenth century. Lady Duff-Gordon of Lucile was a pioneer in developing lingerie that freed women from more restrictive corsets. Through the first half of the 20th century, women wore underwear for three primary reasons: to alter their outward shape (first with corsets and later with girdles or bras), for hygienic reasons, or for modesty. Before the invention of crinoline, women's underwear was often very large and bulky. During the late 19th century, corsets became smaller, less bulky and constricting, and were gradually supplanted by the brassiere, first patented in the 20th century by Mary Phelps Jacob. When the First World War broke out, women found themselves filling in men's work roles, creating a demand for more practical undergarments. Manufacturer began to use lighter and more breathable fabrics.
As the 20th century progressed, underwear became smaller and more form fitting. In the 1960s, lingerie manufacturers such as Frederick's of Hollywood begin to glamorize lingerie. The lingerie industry expanded in the 21st century with designs that double as outerwear. The French refer to this as 'dessous-dessus' which basically means innerwear as outerwear. The boutique Faire Frou Frou, which is an antiquated phrase meaning "show it off", or lingerie website Not Just Yet herald this philosophy by categorizing lingerie as an accessory with details such as straps and lace trim that should be layered and shown as part of one's outerwear.

Marisa Miller is a strawberry blonde surfer-turned-model. According to Sports Illustrated, she was discovered in 2001 by fashion photographer Mario Testino, who took pictures of her riding the waves in California. The next year she appeared in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue and has since appeared on the covers of Vogue, Fitness and Shape, among other high-profile magazines. Her athletic West Coast look was at first reminiscent of another SI model, Christie Brinkley, but Miller later opted for a more typically skinny supermodel look. She also has modelled for the ad campaigns of Tommy Hilfiger and has made frequent appearances in the Victoria's Secret lingerie catalogs. A Classical singer, Songwriter, Choreographer, Composer, Stage planner, TV Show Host, Acting, Mimicking. Stylish Neha has done it all, receiving a number of awards across the various art forms. She recently won the Best Playback Female Singer Vijay Award for song Pesugiren. She successfully hosted No.1 Music TV Show “SaReGaMaPa Hungama” on Zee Music.

NB than started practicing and competiting in every contest she could. And what helped her in this endeavour was her family. Everyone in her family has passion for music. Specially her mother.She is a Classical Singer.
NB won her first singing competition by singing Mariah Carey’s “HERO”. After that there was nothing stopping her. She won many competitions and awards. And if she ever lost, she says, "Whenever I lost, for me my competitions were very very important. I used to tell my mom 'Ok that you know I lost'. And she used to always tell me 'Beta you are always going to get something big in your life' .
When NB was 12, she had a very close friend, Annette. Annette used to come to her house. Thats when she started writing songs. And has been doing ever since. She says, "Being an extremely emotionally sensitive individual, I have to put my feelings into words. It struck me that I could make songs out my writings. Whatever I experience, I write it down. It comes rather naturally to me. I don’t look up in the dictionary to pick up right words. I write from the heart and hate it when people tell me what to write.”
In 1998 NB felt she should get formal training. So she joined Shiamak Davar’s SDIPA to get dance training and Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan to learn Classical singing.
NB joined Lady Sriram College.Its the same college from where people Mira Nair,Ritu Bari,Mini Mathur and many more successful women have come through.
NB says, "It was during my days at LSR that I realised my potential. College instilled in me immense confidence. Throughout school I had felt like a misfit but LSR allowed me to celebrate my individuality and gave me confidence. I felt accepted in college among my friends and teachers. One reason for that could be the immense opportunity one gets to pick an extra curricular activity and then exploit it.
As I loved music and wanted to pursue it as a profession, I joined the LSR's music society. Later, I became the society's secretary. I was pursuing Sociology honours but hardly focussed on academics. Dance and music kept me occupied. College shifted my focus from frivolous romance to more serious issues like career. Many of the dreams I'm chasing today were born at Big Chill, a joint next to the college, where I used to hangout with friends."
In 2001 came Channel V ‘s Popstars contest. NB won! Along with four other girls Mahua,Anouskha,Seema, and Pratichee. Five of them formed the Band VIVA!.
About becoming a Popstar NB says, “For me it was just a dream,dream,dream, which I had to realize. I knew I had to become a singer. I have to do nothing else. I would die if don’t become a singer. So it was something which God finally actually listen to me and that to so early. So I am very thankful,very thankful. I can’t believe it. I still can’t believe it”.
In their first public concert in Delhi, VIVA! attracted more than 60,000 people.And there act started exactly the way NB used to dream. She says,"I use to imagine myself, actually I use to put on Mariah Carey and close my eyes and I use to imagine myself in black gown, on stage, looking sweet, singing."
And thats how NB came on stage singing "Jaago Zara".She says, “It was mad. It was happening. It was just too much. Just before going on stage. I got a message from my sister that we can’t see the show. We are going back home. And I was like, mera mood bilkul karab ho gaya tha. But you could so distinctly hear people screaming VIVA!,VIVA!,VIVA!.You know seen people scream for artists and today like same people are cheering for us I am like O God this is not real! It can’t be! It’s the best feeling that anyone can ever get. I went down stage and “Jago zara” started. Lights came on, and the first thing I saw my whole family standing right in front of my eyes and a big smile came on my face."
They recorded two albums together.VIVA! and VIVA! Reloaded.In VIVA! Reloaded NB had also written two songs with Anoushka. "Yeh pyar nahi to kya hai jana” and "Zindagi mere saath”.They both even composed the song "Yeh pyar nahi to kya hai jana".
More than 7 lakhs copies of VIVA! first album has been sold till date.
VIVA had also recorded three songs for hindi films.One with A.R.Rehmann "Rozana" for film Lakeer, one with Anand-Milind "Din hamara hai" for Rakht and one with Anu Malik "Chillake Chillake" for Chehra.
In Dec.2004 the girls decided to go solo.NB says, "We spilt because there was a lot of disillusionment among the members. If only we had been guided properly or even put on to people who could have managed our affairs, I am sure things would have been different. The thing we lacked was vision. It isn’t easy to keep the band together,with so many minds together. Everyone of us wanted to do our own thing.”
NB adds,“All the good things have to come to an end. I was ready for the change. Mentally prepared for VIVA to part. This is a new beginning. And it has been wonderful.
It’s nicer to sing solo. I am much more in control of the songs and I am responsible for everything that’s happening on stage. Being solo one has more control over one’s career. It’s been tough though. I have to prove myself with my music."
About fame NB says, "Well I guess its got to sides to it. On one hand it gives you so much that a person wants in life. And on other hand it takes so much you had in life. So I think there’s little prize one has to pay you know for becoming famous."
NB very soon started singing playbacks and performing Live with her dancers in major cities across the country and abroad. Hongkong, Malaysia, Singapore, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai ... and so on.
NB has also sung very popular jingles like Slice Aamsutra, Bajaj Almond Drop, Tanishq Converstions, Maggie, Savlon, Compaq, Dulux, MTV konees etc.
NB then wrote two songs for film Bullet Ek Dhamaka. One ghazal "Aahat sunni maine" and title the track "Yeh zindagi bhi". Which she even sung.
In 2005 NB wrote and composed “Plea to the Lord” and did numerous shows across the country for the Tsunami victims.
She performed it for the first time at Mumbai Marathon. Which had the audience of more than 25,000, including Mumbai celebrities.
NB has officially got the credit for the song "Ek look Ek look"of film Aryan.Earlier it had only her voice.As the music director of the film had refused to give her the credit.So she took him to the court and won the case. She says, "I went to record a song with the music director and I was told I'd be paid according to the success of the song in the market. When the album was released I went and bought the CD and was shocked to see that my name had been reduced to that of a back-up vocalist. That's when I decided to take a legal action against them. I believed in justice and I got it."
NB has already given number of hits as playback singer. Which include You and Me(Pyaar Impossible), Kuck Khaas (Fashion), Ek Look Ek Look(Aryan), Hari Puttar(Hari Puttar),Yeh Zindagi Bhi(Bullet Ek Dhamka). NB has even judged & trained contestants of very popular TV Show "Sitaron Ko Choona Hai" on Real Channel. Apart from hosting TV Show "SaReGaMaPa Hungama" on Zee Music. Which reached the No.1 spot in popularity ratings across all Music Channels while she was hosting it. She says, "It feels great to be part of NO.1 Show. When I came on board as the Anchor I came with the mindset that we have to do well, but now after seeing that all our hardwork is producing such great results, we feel inspired to rock even more."
On May 3rd 2008, in Chennai, "2nd Reliance Mobile Vijay Awards" were held to honor the Tamil Cinema's best work for 2007. NB won the Best Singer female Award for her song "Pesugiren Pesugiren" (Sathum podhathay).Which was composed by Yuvan Shanker Raja. Neha says,
"I have won prizes in school and college but yes, this is my first professional award. When my name was announced, I was delighted to say the least, since, I had never imagined that the song would make such an impact, more so since it is my first Tamil release."
At the 54th Filmfare Awards, NB was nominated for the Best Female Playback Singer Award for singing "Kuch Khaas" in Fashion. She says," When my parents told me that I was nominated for the Filmfare Award, I thought I'd died, went to heaven and came back! I wanted to hug God, scream and shout! I know it's strange because that's what you do when you win the award, but to be considered for a nomination was very, very overwhelming indeed. And honestly, I have to thank Salim and Sulieman for it."

Priyanka Chopra, armed with long legs and the Miss World crown, followed the precedent set by other beauty contest winners by joining the Bollywood bandwagon.

The Nomadic Mimi
Priyanka Ashok Chopra was born on 18 July 1982 in Jamshedpur and is fondly known as Mimi. Her father is Capt. Dr.Ashok Chopra and her mother is Dr.Madhu Chopra. She has a younger brother, Siddharth. Her father’s origin is a mix of Punjabi, Bengali, and Marathi while her mother’s is a mix of Tamil, Malayali, and Kannada.

Her family was always on the move as her father was in the army. Few of her growing up years were spent in Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh. She studied at the La Martiniere Girl’s School in Lucknow before re-locating to the United States of America. While there, she studied at the Newton North High School in Massachusetts and later in North Delta Senior Secondary School in North Delta. On returning back to India, she continued her schooling in the Army School at Bareilly. She joined the Jai Hind College in Mumbai but dropped out when she won the second place in the Miss India beauty pageant. She went on to bring home the Miss World crown in 2000, becoming one of the five Indians to have won that title.

Priyanka was dating Harman Baweja. They were seen together in Love Story 2050. The couple broke up. Though it was never official, it is said that she was dating Shahid Kapoor, her co-star from Kaminey. Gerard Butler was supposedly enamoured by her and even proposed to Chopra during a party.

Belle of Bollywood
Priyanka Chopra’s first film was in Tamil. Thamizhan released in 2002. This was followed by two films The Hero: Love Story of a Spy and Andaaz. Her part in the latter won her the Filmfare Best Female Debut Award. In 2004, she met with success in Mujhse Shaadi Karoge and Aitraaz, which was inspired by the Hollywood hit Disclosure. Her performance as Mrs Sonia Roy was recognized with the Filmfare Best Villain Award. Her biggest hit in 2005 was Bluffmaster with Abhishek Bachchan.

In 2006, she starred in two of the year’s biggest box office successes like Krrish with Hrithik Roshan and Don – The Chase Begins Again with Shahrukh Khan.
