Shakib Al Hasan is a left-arm spinner and talented batsman, he ensured his place in the Bangladesh squad for the U-19 World Cup in Sri Lanka with a blistering performance in the final of the tri-nations U-19 ODI tournament in Bangladesh. Firstly, he took 3 for 39 in the Sri Lankan innings and then scored 100 to guide Bangladesh to victory. Although primarily selected for his bowling, he has shown great potential with the bat. Hasan made his one-day debut in the final match against Zimbabwe in July 2006. He scored an unbeaten 30 and helped steer Bangladesh to victory. Since then Hasan has proved to be an asset to his team. He scored his maiden ODI hundred, against Canada in a tri-series before the 2007 World Cup and a year later hit his first against a better attack - Pakistan's. His bowling has been penetrative and economical and his partnership with fellow left-armer Abdur Razzak has been a bonus for Bangladesh. Shakib rattled New Zealand with 7 for 36 in the 2008 Chittagong Test, which till date are the best figures by a Bangladesh bowler in an innings. His sensational batting took Bangladesh to their first ever tri-series final, against Sri Lanka, the following year. He's one of the most valuable and consistent performers in the team.

Shakib was awarded as The Wisden Cricketer magazine's Test Cricketer of the Year for 2009. He became Bangladesh's captain in July 2009 after Mashrafe Mortaza injured himself in his first match in charge. Initially a temporary position until Mortaza recovered, Hasan's success against the West Indies, securing his side's first overseas series win, ensured he retained the position even once Mortaza had recovered. In July 2010, he stepped down from the ODI captaincy to concentrate on his personal performance.

Tendulkar was born in Bombay (now Mumbai). His father, Ramesh Tendulkar, a Marathi novelist, named Tendulkar after his favourite music director, Sachin Dev Burman. Tendulkar's elder brother Ajit encouraged him to play cricket. Tendulkar has two other siblings: a brother Nitin, and sister Savita. He is the most prolific run scorer in one-day internationals with 17,598 runs. With a current aggregate of 13447 Test runs, he surpassed Brian Lara's previous record tally of 11,953 runs as the highest run scorer in test matches in the second Test of Australia's 2008 tour of India in Mohali. Tendulkar described "It is definitely the biggest achievement in 19 years of my career" on the day he achieved the record. He also holds the record of highest number of centuries in both Test and ODI cricket. Throughout his career, he has made a strong impact on Indian cricket and was, at one time, the foundation of most of the team's victories. In recognition with his impact on sport in a cricket-loving country like India, Tendulkar has been granted the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, Arjuna Award, Padma Shri and Padma Vibhushan by the Government of India. He was also chosen as one of the five Wisden Cricketers of the Year in 1997 and is ranked by the Wisden 100 as the second best test batsman and best ODI batsman of all time.Tendulkar has also consistently done well in Cricket World Cups. Tendulkar was the highest run scorer of the 2003 Cricket World Cup and 1996 Cricket World Cup. The Hon Brian Charles Lara is a West Indian international cricket player. He topped the Test batting rankings on several occasions and holds several cricketing records, holds the record for the highest individual score in first-class cricket, with 501 not out for Warwickshire against Durham at Edgbaston in 1994, which is the only quintuple hundred in first-class cricket history. The BBC radio commentary on the final day of the innings (June 6, 1994), by Dave Roberts, was being broadcast around the world live via the BBC World Service network, and in the UK on BBC Radios 1, 2 & 4 as well as the majority of BBC Local radio stations. That evening, as Lara neared the all-time batting record,a huge surge of fans crowded to enter the grounds. Sir Lara also holds the record for the highest individual score in a test innings after scoring 400 not out against England at Antigua in 2004. He is the only batsman to have ever scored a hundred, a double century, a triple century, a quadruple century and a quintuple century in first class games over the course of a senior career. The Bangladeshi cricket team, also known as "The Tigers", is a national cricket team representing Bangladesh. It is administered by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

Bangladesh is a full member of the International Cricket Council with Test and One Day International status. It played its first Test match in 2000.Bangladesh's first official foray into international cricket came in the 1979 ICC Trophy in England, leaving the tournament with 2 wins and 2 defeats. Seven years later, on 31 March 1986, Bangladesh played in its first One Day International match against Pakistan in the 1986 Asia Cup. Cricket has gradually become very popular in urban areas of the country. Although football was the most popular game for a long time, cricket gained a momentum and soon surpassed football, especially after Bangladesh won the ICC Trophy in Malaysia in 1997. By winning the ICC trophy, the Tigers had qualified for the 1999 Cricket World Cup for the first time, where they upset Pakistan, although they did not pass the group phase. In 1997, Bangladesh became a regular ICC member with the right to play one-day internationals. It attained the status of a Test playing country on 26 June 2000.As of May 2010, Bangladesh have played in 68 Tests, winning only 3. Their first victory was against Zimbabwe and the other two against a West Indian team crippled by the exodus of its senior players. They have lost 57 of their matches, and 33 of these by an innings.Bangladesh's performance has led to repeated calls for them to lose their Test status.

ICC WORLDCUP CRICKET 2011

The 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup will be the tenth Cricket World Cup. It will be hosted by three South Asian Test cricket playing countries: India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. It will be Bangladesh's first time co-hosting a Cricket World Cup also. The World Cup will use cricket's One Day International format, with fourteen national cricket teams scheduled to compete. The World Cup will take place during February and March 2011, with the first match to be played on 19 February 2011 with co-hosts India and Bangladesh facing off at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.
The World Cup was also to be co-hosted by Pakistan, but in the wake of the 2009 attack on the Sri Lanka national cricket team in Lahore, the capital of the Pakistani province of Punjab, the International Cricket Council (ICC) were forced to strip Pakistan of its hosting rights.The headquarters of the organising committee were originally situated in Lahore, but have now been shifted to Mumbai.Pakistan was supposed to hold 14 matches, including one semi-final.Eight of Pakistan's matches have been awarded to India, four to Sri Lanka and two to Bangladesh.
Although all the Indian stadiums for the 2011 World Cup had been finalised before but the venues of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka were finalised afterwards in late October 2009. All the venues of the 2011 Cricket World Cup were announced on 2 November, 2009 in Mumbai by the International Cricket Council. 2 new stadiums in Sri Lanka are being constructed exclusively for the 2011 World Cup. They are located in Kandy and Hambantota.The 2011 Cricket World Cup winning team would be taking home a prize money of US$ 4 million.

The Italian national football team represents Italy in international football competition and is controlled by the Federazione Italiana Giuoco Calcio (FIGC). They are the current World Champions, having won the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Italy is the second most successful national team in the history of the World Cup having won four times (1934, 1938, 1982, 2006), just one fewer than Brazil. To this tally they can add one European championship (1968), one Olympic football tournament (1936) and two (defunct) Central European International Cups.

The traditional colour of the national team (as well as all Italian teams and athletes) is azure blue (azzurro, in Italian).
The team's first match was held in Milan on 15 May 1910, Italy defeated France by a score of 6–2.The first success in an official tournament came with the bronze medal in 1928 Summer Olympics, held in Amsterdam. After losing the semi-final against Uruguay, an 11-3 victory against Egypt secured last place in the competition.

After declining to participate in the first World Cup (1930, in Uruguay) the Italian national team won two consecutive editions of the tournament in 1934 and 1938, under the lead of coach Vittorio Pozzo and thanks to the genius of Giuseppe Meazza, one of the best Italian players ever. In 1914, FIFA agreed to recognise the Olympic football tournament as a "world football championship for amateurs", and took responsibility for managing the event at the next three Olympiads: from 1920 to 1928. In the 1908 Olympic Games and the 1912 Olympic Games the football competitions had been organised by The Football Association and the Swedish Football Association respectively.

On 26 May 1928, at FIFA's Amsterdam conference and on the opening day of the Olympic football tournament, FIFA president Jules Rimet announced plans to stage a tournament independent of the Olympics, open to all FIFA members and with professionalism permitted.The membership voted 25–5 to accept the proposal.Italy, Sweden, the Netherlands, Spain and Uruguay all lodged applications to host the event.Uruguay's bid became the clear favourite for a number of reasons. Uruguay were reigning Olympic champions, and thus de facto world champions, the bid included plans to build a new stadium as a centrepiece, and the Uruguayan authorities also offered to refund the expenses of all participants.The other nations withdrew their bids,and Uruguay was chosen to host the tournament.

The first World Cup was the only one without qualification. Every country affiliated with FIFA was invited to compete, and given a deadline of 28 February 1930 to accept. Plenty of interest was shown by nations in the Americas; Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru and the United States all entered. A total of seven South American teams entered, more than in any subsequent World Cup Finals. However, because of the long and costly trip across the Atlantic Ocean, and the length of absence required for players, very few European teams were inclined to take part. Some refused to countenance travel to South America in any circumstances, and no European entries were received before the February deadline. In an attempt to gain some European participation, the Uruguayan Football Association sent a letter of invitation to The Football Association, even though the Home Nations were not members of FIFA at the time. This was rejected by the FA Committee on 18 November 1929.Two months before the start of the tournament, no team from Europe had officially entered.
Final
The final was played at the Estadio Centenario on 30 July. Feelings ran high around the La Plata Basin, dispelling any uncertainty as to whether the tournament had captured the imagination of the public. The ten boats earmarked to carry Argentine fans from Buenos Aires to Montevideo proved inadequate, and any number of assorted craft attempted the crossing. An estimated 10–15,000 Argentinians made the trip, but the port at Montevideo was so overwhelmed that many did not even make landfall before kick-off, let alone reach the stadium. At the stadium, supporters were searched for weapons.The gates were opened at eight o'clock, six hours before kick-off, and at noon the ground was full, the official attendance 93,000. A disagreement overshadowed the build-up to the match as the teams failed to agree on who should provide the match ball, forcing FIFA to intervene and decree that the Argentine team would provide the ball for the first half and the Uruguayans would provide their own for the second. Uruguay made one change from their semi-final lineup. Castro replaced Anselmo, who missed out due to illness. Monti played for Argentina despite receiving death threats on the eve of the match. Tsvetana Pironkova has warned the Williams sisters that their dominance is coming to an end after yesterday inflicting the biggest shock of the championships.

The unseeded Bulgarian thrashed five-time champion Venus Williams 6-2 6-3 in 85 minutes.

She plays Vera Zvonareva in the semi-finals tomorrow, with a likely showdown against defending champion Serena Williams on Sunday awaiting the winner.

Pironkova had never advanced further than the second round of a Grand Slam tournament before, although she beat Venus in three sets in the first round of the Australian Open in 2006.

And she insisted she was not scared of the American pair, who boast 19 Grand Slam titles between them.

"You know at one point it will end," said Pironkova, referring to the sisters' monopoly on titles. "I guess it may be soon.

"They are still among the best players in the world but I really pushed her.

"Winning 6-2 6-3 was the biggest surprise for me - I expected it to be a longer match. It was quicker than I thought."
