Min Värld av Bilder -- Ny utställning på gång

Ja du läste rätt, jag är på väg att ha en ny utställning. Denna gång på Sikta Stenungsbageri, Johnssons Gård utanför Varberg. Just nu ligger flera bilder hos Varbergs Foto för inramning och andra tittar jag på dagligen och funder på om dom ska vara med eller inte, detta är nog det svåraste som finns för en konstnär (om man nu får kalla sig det) oavsett vilken konstform man håller på med.

Att välja eller snarare att välja bort är svårt, vet inte hur många gånger bilder har refuserats för att sedan tas till nåder, hur gör du när du väljer bilder?

Nu har jag i alla fall valt så jag kan börja sätta namn på bilderna och skriva korta beskrivningar om dom, först lite kladd på papper, sedan en mall så det ser någorlunda snyggt ut, därefter skriva in texten. Frun får korrekturläsa och rätta alla mina fel, stavning, grammatik och annat.

Det börjar bli lite nervöst, allt ska vara klart för hängning på morgonen den 1:a juli så det är inte många dagar kvar.

Hoppas du kommer och tittar och du - det är grymt gått fika och fikabröd för att inte tala om mackorna och salladen.

Youtubekanal vid 70+

Lite galen är jag säkert men jag startade faktiskt en youtubekanal för 14 år sedan. Ingen succé, få prenumeranter och inte så många visningar.

Men har gjort en nystart, för vilken gång i ordningen vet jag inte men ett nytt försök blir det. Fokus på mitt stora intresse, foto men också med inslag av illustration, animering och husbilsresor. Hoppas du vill följa mig och glöm inte att pusha mig annars tröttnar jag kanske igen.

På väg mot Spanien med nya iPhone 15pro

Nu har vi startat årets husbilsresa mot Spanien och Portugal. Med på resan är naturligtvis flera kameror, Hasselblad X2D, Hasselblad 500cm, Fuji XH2s och min nya iPhone 15pro.

Idag testade jag iPhonen i mörker och måste säga att jag blev imponerad. Handhållet i mörker - vad säger ni om detta.

Under resa blir det en analog per dag och lite annat, så följ mig om du vill se resultatet. Väl hemma igen så kommer ett urval av dom analoga.

Street photo - vad är det?

Enligt Brittanica.com så är streetphoto eller gatufoto

” street photography, a genre of photographythat records everyday life in a public place. The very publicness of the setting enables the photographer to take candid pictures of strangers, often without their knowledge. Street photographers do not necessarily have a social purpose in mind, but they prefer to isolate and capture moments which might otherwise go unnoticed.”

Var igår på gatufotofestival i Göteborg. Ett bra arrangemang av GSPF men som gör mig lite förvirrad om vad som inkluderas i genren. Första dagen innehöll flera bra fotografer, från dokumentär till konstnärlig manipulation av bilder. Det senare var nog dagens höjdpunkt men samtidigt det som enligt mitt sätt att se det ligger i gråzonen mellan streetphoto och artphoto. Döm själv genom att titta på Joakim Möllers fantastiska bilder på instagam.

Gatufoto tenderar som jag ser det att bli en allt mer omfattande genre, på gott och ont men risken blir att begreppet tappar sin betydelse.

En vecka i London, nästan i alla fall.

Efter fyra hektiska dagar med dotter och ett av mina barnbarn blev det lite tid för fotograferande med min Hasselblad X2D.

Efter att ha klarat av alla måsten som Piccadilly, London Tower, Tower bridge mm la vi en dag på Camden Market, ett väl värt besök med många fotogeniska miljöer. På väg dit blev vi varnade, håll i klocka, mobil och väska. Allt gick bra, ingen trängsel på förmiddagen men liten mer folk.

Vi tog en promenad längs kanalen och under trånga viadukter, coolt och bohemisk atmosfär, många matställen med mat från världens alla hörn.

Vad sägs om en gitarr för £60000 som spelats av Jimmy Page

Att resa med Hasselblads senaste modell X2D och det lilla lätta objektivet 45p är en fröjd. Liten lätt och 100 megapixel. Klarar en dag i London på ett batteri. Att föra över bilderna till iPhonen är en fröjd. Kör även med Fuji och deras senaste app och måste säga att Hasselblads Phocus 2 är en fröjd att jobba med.

Fotomaraton - ett trevligt sätt att träffa likasinnade

Nu är det snart dags för Varbergs Fotomaraton 2023. Varbergs Fotomaraton

Har varit med på några fotomaraton och upplevt det som väldigt givande.

För er som inte vet hur det fungerar så kommer här en kort förklaring. Det finns olika varianter på regler men här kommer en variant.

Du går till en startpunkt där du anmäler dig, här får du reda på ett antal teman som du ska tolka. Du har en begränsad tid på dig, 2 till 3 timmar. Under den tiden ska du skapa bilder på temat som du lämnar in på en förutbestämd plats. Du kan gå runt själv och använda din fantasi och kreativitet eller som jag gärna gör, gå runt med någon du känner eller ny bekantskap och inspirera varandra.

Alltid spännande att tävla och jämföra sitt fotograferande med andra, samma tema med helt olika tolkning.

Nu har jag fått förtroendet att vara med och hjälpa till med genomförandet av Varbergs Fotomaraton och det är mycket att tänka på. Allt från vilka teman man ska ha till hur logistiken ska fungera, vem ska sitta i juryn och hur ska resultatet presenteras.

Men nu känner vi oss redo och du är välkommen att vara med på vår Fotomaraton.

Ställa ut gamla svartvita bilder från Varberg - igen

Fick en fråga för en tid sedan, vill du ställa ut dina fina svartvita bilder från 1970-talet? Svaret var enkelt - självklart!

Upp på vinden, leta upp dom ”gamla” bilderna och visa dom för Stina och Joel. Dom gillade dom och igår monterade jag bilderna.

Ska bli så roligt att se responsen, förra gången, 2005 när jag ställde ut i Lottastugan blev jag överväldigad över mottagandet.

Fick en liten nytändning så nu ska jag jobba på att göra en bok som får ett rimligt pris. Har gjort en på blurb men den säljer dåligt på grund av priset.

Om du besöker Varberg i sommar rekommenderar jag ett besök på magasinet på hooken nere i hamnen. Dom har både gott öl, fin mat i en häftig miljö, dessutom kan du se ett urval av mina bilder.

Minimalism

New gear - new Inspiration

I have been away from blogging quite a while but now I am going to start a little slow. I invested in new gears and getting slower in my way of working - and blogging I guess. I have got my forth grandchild and just about to get retired.
Lot of things happening and I also look forward to getting back to my big interest - creating and sharing pictures from my reality and hopefully give some positive energy to those who want to follow me.
My first picture to share is from a walk around the coastline close to were we live. A lovely morning when the sun just about to burn the mist away.

Postproduction is the hardest part of infrared photography

After traveling around Europe with my converted XPRO-1 in my bag and taken a lot of pictures I try to do something with the pictures. And this is much harder than I first could imagine but I try and try and it's getting a little bit better each time.

This one is much better than the earlier but still not what I want to see so I keep on going.

By the way the picture is from Altea in Spain.

I tried to follow the workflow described by lifepixel at http://www.lifepixel.com - a site well worth to look at if you start with infrared photography.

Curius about IR Photography - I have just started.

As stated in the heading I have just decided to give IR photography a try. I started with a filter front of my lenses. After a while I decided to convert one of my cameras. I decided to do it because I realized that the filter inferno of my lenses created so long exposure times. My understanding is that this is because the camera still has its filter to block ir-light at the same time as I put an ir-filter infront of the lens to block visible light.

So I send my XPRO-1 to a company in the US, maxmax in New Jersey and paid some $500 to get it converted.

I just received it and shot my first pictures. Now I can take pictures handheld which is fine. But now I need to learn how to post process the images and that journey just started.

Follow me here and I will share my experience and hopefully progress.

Line up that I feel suits me well

After switching to Fuji I have had a much more enjoyable photo journey than before. But even Fuji has its shortcomings. So I have been searching for something that kan improve AF and the handle of fast moving objects and changing situations that make it necessary to move the focus point around the screen. I have also been looking for better ISO characteristics with less noise in poor light as well as higher dynamic range. I have also tried to find a camera good to capture footage.
I need this to be able to deliver to different stock agencies because they require better and better noise handling and they ask for more and more video.
After a lot of testing I have come to the conclusion that there is not one camera that can deliver what I want and need. Therefor I have picked three different cameras.

Fuji, XT-1, PRO-1
Lumix, GX8
Sony A7s

It cost some money to invest in three different systems but if you want the best you can not stick to one camera. Where I live it is not that common to rent a camera and pick the one you need for the shoot of today, if it was I think I preferred to do so.
However, now I think I got my perfect lineup of camera equipment - no more excuses if I don not deliver.

In between- a good thing for photographers

Sounds odd doesn't it but if you think about it it makes sense - at least to me.

In between, day and night, night and day, between summer and winter, winter and summer when you get those wonderful days with frosty threes and leafs. But also the moments between the klicks as a photographer I admire called it.

I have experienced, a lot of times that the best picture is the one when the model relax and not expect a klick. So be prepared to capture the "in between moments".

Spot meter is sometimes not enough

I use my spot meter quite extensive to get the right exposure. Spot meter setting is available on most DSLRs, mirrorless and advanced compact cameras. It is a setting that forces the camera to measure light just at a very small area, mostly the focus point.

I use it when there are large variations in light s.a. Light object towards a dark background or vice versa, and it helps me a lot.

But sometimes it is not enough as in this picture.

I focused on the beautiful plant in the foreground but my intention was to get the plants towards a more dark background.

So I added some exposure compensation, in this case under exposure. And there it was - the picture I was looking for.

Minus 2ev and I got a nice dark background that separated the plants from the background.

Last night started with a fantastic sunset. Surfers and swimmers took the opportunity to get a good relax and nice bath. I took the opportunity to capture one of the most captured motives with my Fuji XT-1 and 50-140/2,8. I am amazed how I can use these modern cameras and lenses, especially Fujis lenses to shoot almost straight into the sun with quite good result.

It was a magic night with many pictures but I share only two picture with you an you can see the quality of the cam and lens.

Fuji - Its all about color, user experience and build quality

I'v been with Fuji on and off since my Fuji ST 705 35mm SLR.

The old Fuji ST701

Unfortunately I dropped it and had to get a Pentax MX with a winder.
After that I hade Hasselblad 503CW, XPAN-II and Nikon cameras.
But during all these with film based cameras I have used Fujis film.
When Fuji came up with its x-serie I immediately felt in love with it. I loved its design, simple and genius, even or just because it was like a copy of the old cameras from around 1970.
Later I found its film mode and simulation be the real value that Fuji added alongside the lenses and technical quality.

What Fuji has done is not only changing saturation and contrast but added some real character removing the plastic and smooth feeling that I believe is the weakness of other digital cameras.
I have sold my Nikon cameras not because they are bad cameras but because Fuji added something new that creates joy and give me inspiration when I use them - and that is the most important thing. It's not the camera that creates good pictures it is you and me and if we are inspired and enjoy working with the tools we have we create better pictures.

Not always in need of the highest resolution

When I create my pictures I use different equipment, Nikon, Fuji, Sony, Panasonic my old Hasselblad, GoPro, Polaroid cameras or my iPhone. Sometimes I just pic a Camera and go out to see what happens and what I can achive with the tool I brought with me. When on an assignment I pic the Camera I believe is the best for the job.

So here is my point - there is no camera that fill all my needs (or yours). I have to use the camera that is best for the situation - but most important pic a Camera that creates joy and inspire your creativity. Many of my stock images are created with low pixel cameras if you compare with todays high res cams - and they still sell.

Working in studio with a slow tempo makes a heavy but high res camera I good tool.

In the the field on location I prefere lighter equipment but stil good resolution high dynamic range with good lenses.

Going for a walk or on my hunt for pictures to some of my artwork I often carry my Polaroid or a small and silent camera possible to take anywhere.

Six month ago I divested my Nikon equipment in favor Of Fuji X system. I also have a small Panasonic GM1, Sony A7s - all with good lenses. But sometimes I miss the performance Of Nikon 800 in the studio. So who knows, maybe I reinvest in one one day.

Again - pic a Camera that creates joy and inspire your creativity. Right now I enjoy my Fuji XPRO most - maybe because I'm grown up with cameras that have mechanical input wheels simple to handle and quick to change settings with.

Sometimes it strikes me that I shall lease the camera I need instead of buying and selling equipment and lose money each time I want to test something new. But here where I live there are no real good lease agencies and as far as I know it is expensive.

First thank You to all my readers from all over the world, it is fantastic that people from everywhere read my blog, and I mean everywhere. USA, Canada, France, Spain, Ukraine just to mention some of the countries from were my fellows live.

It has been a fantastic year for me waiting our third grand child I also have had the opportunity to travel to Cuba and round in Europe meeting with lovely people, wonderful nature and learned a lot from different cultures. Carrying a camera seem to be a door opener in so many ways, a reason to start a conversation or just give each other a nod.

I'v changed my camera system from fantastic but to heavy Nikon full frame to Fuji X cameras making my journeys even more pleasant when I can get almost similar result with nearly half the weight, and the cameras are not at all frightening to the people I meet. I struggled a bit with the post processing but I think I got it right now, at least my acceptance rate at my stock agencies are back to were it was before I switched.

So what do I expect from 2015. Well what ever happen I look forward to it (almost). We will go on traveling around Europe with our motor home and meet with new people and cultures and take a lot of pictures - of course.
I look forward to the new Fuji Xpro witch I hope will arrive during 2015 and I will keep an eye on Sony and their mirror-less systems. Maybe Nikon will come up with something interesting too.

Barcelona with Fuji X-T1 and Lumix GM1

Barcelona is a wounderful city with kind and ambitius people and a nice climate, at least for us that come from the Nordic coyntries.

The streets are full of intresting people in nice environments that love to be photographed.

As an Apple fan boy I just have to visit the Apple store in the city centre.

I walked around with my X-T1 and the 56/1,2 together with my Lumix GF1 and my Leica 17/1,7.

They both worked well as two tools to capture the Life in Barcelona streets.

I love my Lumix combo for it's competent and silent behavier, I can take pictures everywere without upsetting people. The X-T1 has a fantastic picture quality, is fast and so strait forward to handle - just love it.

Use natural light to highlight your street fashion objects

Here I am again, not so frequent in my blogging but I blogg when I feel I have something to say. So - yesterday I went through a shopping mall at my way to work. I was fascinated by all different kind of shoes people were wearing but couldn't get good pictures of it.
While I was walking around struggling to find a good angel and an area that was not to crowded to be able to isolate my objects, I saw a sun spot on the floor. I went there and start shooting. Had to underexpose 1,5ev to get the right exposure because my little Panasonic GM1 doesn't seem to have spot metering.
So - look for natural light, its always there you just have to see it and use it.

Photos are captured using the small and eminent Panasonic Lumix GM1. A camera so small that you can carry it in your pocket but with a mtf sized sensor. Im really impressed by it.

The story behind the picture - no money to buy water

How often have You captured a picture and when You show it to others they don't see what You saw.

It happens to me now and then and I have to explain my feelings and what I experienced when I toke The picture. So even if a picture says more then thousand words You have to tell The story in words.

So what does all this go, I guess The point is that You have to put The picture into a framework and You have to help The audience understand and feel what You experienced.

This picture was taken in Havana, Cuba. It was almost 40°C and we walked slowly through The streets. We carried some water with us and tried to find a place in The shadow to rest. This family gave us a place at the wall were they sat resting. While we sat there they looked at our bottels of water so we asked if they wanted some water, and they did. We offerd them all our bottels and they almost started to cry. The mother didn't have the money to by water to her kids that were so thirsty.

They went on a bus waiving at us and we will probably not see them again.

By the way, the picture is captured with Fuji XPRO-1 and the lovely 23mm lens.

I'm so happy that I have been invited to show my pictures and Timelapse movies on Falkenberg Photo Festival in Falkenberg, Sweden.
Last year I exhibited and had a speech showing my view of a wonderful Iceland. I also had a minor workshop about how to get started with timelapse.
This year I was asked to show more of my work at this fantastic event.
I decided to put together a program called -

Two islands, two journeys, two stories

Cuba - Iceland

Sorry for just being in Swedish.

When looking back at the two journeys I realize the islands are completely different, in fact the only thing they have in common is the fact that they are surrounded by water.
I also went there with the aim to picture completely different things witch generated different stories. One story is about a wonderful nature with a dramatic but also calm environment. The other story is about people living a life full of challenges but also filled with music, salsa rhythm and a young generation full of expectations.

My travel companions to Cuba

I also travelled with completely different set of equipment, Iceland two heavy cameras, Nikon D3 and D800 producing magnificent pictures of the landscape and Cuba two light weight fujis, XPRO-1 and X-T1 enabling me to move fast and get close to the people we met.

Cuba - Final Pictures from my Fujis (XPRO & X-T1

My trip to Cuba was something I will never forget, it was full of impressions, proud people longing for freedom, lovely music and lack of everything related to material, resources and what ever I could think of.
It is a country so colorful in terms of the way people dress, the music they play and the cars they try to keep running.
I really wish the people all good and hope the leadership in Cuba and outside Cuba can get together to solve or at least help the Cubans meet the huge challenge they have.
Good luck and thank you for sharing your every day life with me.

"Patriot or murderer" This is just not the way you build loyalty and make people work hard.

It is good to have someone to look up to - but...

How will it be possible to compete in a global world when you use oxes...

People that have the opportunity to do business is doing it, producing and selling food of different sort.
Cubans are fantastic making their living out of almost nothing.

Beautiful Habana (Havana), - Cubans -Take care of you beautiful city it is a goldmine if you manage it right.

Colorful cars and houses, as colorful as the people.

Stores but not much to buy.

You have to get your infrastructure in place - roads, railroads, water pipes, telecommunication and electricity.

Repairing electrical equipment with no spare parts - possible if you are a Cuban

So many good sportsmen and women but not many fields to exercise.

lovely music is played everywhere - this is really something to develop and take care of.

Keep on taking care of your elder people, don't drop the when you get free.

Colorful people and the cigars is something to be careful with when you develop.

My Fuji X cameras, the XPRO-1 and the X-T1 did a good job in Cuba. They are light, discrete and produced excellent picture quality. They are good for this type of photography but I still need my Nikon system to deliver excellent pictures in the studio as well as when it comes to light system and lens systems. But one day it might be enough with the Fujis.

Trinidad with my X-T1 and XPRO- part two

It was so nice walking the streets of Trinidad capturing the every day life. Absolutely no problems taking pictures and no one asking for money, as the did in Havana. I can recommend everyone to go to Cuba and see for them self what I have been able to see.

This little girl was so amazed seeing the picture I showed her.

You can hear typical Cuban music with lovely rhythm in every street junction.

Renovation is done with almost no resources at all.
