Tips for Disney World - Magic Kingdom

After posting my Disney World Travel Binder I received several e-mails asking for details on the tips. I decided to take a bunch of the tips and type them in in smaller "cheat sheet" cards that I can laminate and hang on a ring. Similar to my ride height requirement cards but larger. I thought this would be easier to use at each park then the binder pages. I'm still bringing my binder because I can't condense it all into cards but I can get the main things we don't want to forget. My cards will be two sided. DIY Toaster Oven Shelf

I’ve been SLOWLY working on clearing the clutter in my kitchen. Since this is a room we’re in a lot it seems to be a never ending job. Most of my cabinets and drawers are organized. It’s the clutter on the horizontal surfaces I can’t seen to get under control.

Disney World Ride Height Requirement Cards

Since my kids are small and can't ride everything I made some cards that list the height requirements for each park. I'm planning to laminate them and put them on a ring to keep on the handle of the stroller or hooked on my backpack. Then I'll know at a glance what rides we can and can't do.

Disney Trip Planner

If you’re planning a trip to Disney (World, Land, or even a cruise) I HIGHLY recommend a trip planner.

I found mine searching around on-line and she has been a tremendous help. I don’t have to pay her a dime but she has spent so much time sending e-mails, making suggestions, and booking reservations on the phone. She has ALL the answers and responds to my questions very quickly. She has a facebook page and a blog that keeps you current on all the changes.

Master Bedroom Closet Makeover

It was finally my turn! Like my daughter’s closet, my closet was one of the first we organized when we moved in. It wasn’t bad but needed some tweaking. That’s where the second narrow bookcase I got at a garage sale came in. I’m fortunate to have two closets in my master bedroom. My husband has the usual smaller one with bi-fold doors which works great for him. I have a slightly larger, walk-in across from his.

I actually removed everything initially, intending to completely reorganize it, but decided most of it was ok. I put most of the shelves back in their original place. The difference was adding the bookshelf to the right corner. I was able to put my flipflops in a basket and store them on one shelf. This freed up so much space I was able to get rid of the shoe rack that was on the floor to the right. I’ve never been happy with it as it blocked part of the doorway and made the room feel smaller.

Girl’s Room Closet Makeover

So, I’m slowly making my way through the bedroom closets in my house. I started with my son’s by adding a narrow bookshelf in the middle. Go here to see the details.

The next one on my list was my daughter’s room. This was one of the first closets I organized when we moved in but it wasn’t really working. I originally used wire shelving to divide it into sections for long hanging, short hanging, and shelves. The only problem was there was a lot of wasted space. Luckily I found two narrow bookshelves as a garage sale for $15 total! One for my closet and one for hers.

Disney World Travel Binder

Laundry Room Makeover

When we first moved into our house about 7 years ago I painted my laundry room. However, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with it yet so I just used leftover paint from my daughters nursery. It was a creamy off white color and I though it would go with everything. The only problem was I didn’t have enough to get a good coat.

My laundry room has been through several transformations. From this:

To this - after I stacked my laundry basket dressers on one side and moved the hanging stuff from both sides to the back. This really opened up the room and made it feel larger. It also appears neater from the kitchen as everything is hidden around the corner and not across from the door.

Slumber Party Flip Flop Craft

My daughter loves crafts and wanted one for her slumber party. (You can see the personalized thermoses party favor she is handing out here, and the personalized pillowcases each girl will receive here.)

Since I didn’t want anything too messy or time consuming (or too expensive) we settled on decorating flip flops. Luckily I was able to find them in stock at Hobby Lobby already. We bought several pairs of black and several pairs of pink to give everyone a choice. I plan to return what isn’t used.

Slumber Party Pillowcases

As you know from my last post my daughter is having a slumber party for her upcoming birthday. To see the thermos party favor I created go here.

Since the thermoses were so inexpensive I decided to make another treat. I sewed each girl a matching pillowcase with her name. This is a super easy sewing project for even a beginning sewer. My daughter picked out the fabric (keeping with her pink and black theme – and a little turquoise). Then I used my Silhouette to cut out the names from fabric (I ironed on fusible web to the back before cutting so I could iron them onto the pillowcases). It was then a simple (but somewhat time consuming) project to iron on and stitch around each letter. Some names are easier to read than others but I think they turned out great and I think her friends will love them!

Silhouette Cameo Blades . . . . for less!

I recently used my cameo to cut paper snowflakes . . . . a LOT of snowflakes . . . . for a craft at my daughter’s Heritage Girls Daddy Daughter Dance. If you’re a sewer you’ll relate to this. It dulled my blade so much! My kids know they’re not allowed to cut paper with my fabric scissors for this very reason!!

So, I had to go in search of a new blade. Did you know that Silhouette sells their things on Amazon and they have a blue fabric blade (colored so you don’t mix it up with one you cut vinyl or paper with)? Did you know that they sell this blue “fabric” blade for less than the regular black blade (on Amazon)? Did you also know that they’re exactly the same according to their descriptions. The only difference is the color! I ordered 3 to get free shipping and plan to label them . . . . one for vinyl, one for fabric, and one for paper.

Keep in mind, not everything they sell on Amazon is cheaper so it pays to check around. . . . but not having to pay for shipping is a bonus! I haven't received mine yet so my fingers are crossed that they really are the same . . . .

Valentine Nugget Candy Wrappers

I don’t get my kids a ton of stuff for Valentine’s Day but I like to give them a little something. I bought them some Hershey Nugget candy. To make it a little prettier I made some wrappers. They’re designed to be printed on sticker return address labels but I just printed them on regular paper and taped them on. I also made a matching treat bag topper. Since we had extra, my kids also gave them to teachers and friends who weren’t in their class and didn’t get their other valentine. (They handed out bubbles with an owl tag attached)

Recipe Cards for Meal Planning

A little while ago I shared my Dinner Meal Planning Printable. You can see that post here and download the free printable.
To help plan my meals I use my recipe cards. A while ago I went through all my recipe books and typed up my favorite ones. On each card I included the recipe book and page number. I also included recipes from my pinterest boards (I have board for various categories like main dish, side dish, snack, etc).

Encouraging Kids to Save Money

I’ve decided I’m tired of my kids asking to buy everything they see when we run errands. It’s time to start teaching them about the value of a dollar. They do have a chore chart but we haven’t implemented it yet. I’ll share that soon. For now, my kids get money from birthday’s, Christmas, and the odd job around the house. To encourage them to save and help track it I printed a couple thermometers and labeled it in $10 increments up to $100 (my daughter thinks she wants to save for an American Girl Doll). I also hung a bucket from Target dollar spot below to put hold their money. This was hung on an empty narrow wall between my half bath and kitchen. As they receive or earn cash they can color in the thermometer and add it to their bucket.

Not sure what my son is saving for. At this point he loves putting it in his bank for stickers, popcorn, and popsicles and I’m ok with that! My kids savings accounts are awesome. For every $10 they get a sticker and once their passbook is full they get a $10 gift card they can spend anywhere. They also get free popcorn and sometimes popsicles just for walking in. Another bonus is several times a year we get discounted passes for fun events that aren’t open to the general public. One was the Magic House and another one was the City Museum. If you’re ever in the St. Louis area I highly recommend it!!

Lunch Planner

This is similar to my Breakfast & Snack Planner that my daughter uses. I have her fill out her choices on Sat or Sun for the following week. I wanted it behind glass so we could use a wet erase marker and save on printer ink. This was sized for an 8 x 11 frame that I got from freecycle.
