Unless you are financially able to not work, you need a job. If you are looking for work, here's a quick story about my recent job search that will, hopefully, assist you in your quest.

When I made my choice to move to Miami, I had been in the same job for twelve years and even though I would hear people say how difficult it was to find work these days, I had no clue how true their words were until I started looking for work.

First of all, the days of picking up a newspaper and looking in the classified ads are over. I bought The Miami Herald, opened it to the classified section and was blown away at the sight of NOTHING. What was I thinking, right? I should have known that there wouldn't be any job listings in print when EVERYTHING is searched for on the internet these days.

Secondly, there is no more faxing your resume to a business and picking up the phone to schedule an interview. There are so many "career sites" on the internet where you have to register or complete this or that in order to search for and apply for potential jobs.

Finally, it's a waiting game. You search, register, apply, apply, apply and apply some more and then you wait. Make it your "job" to look for a job. For example, I got up every morning and went to a local park where there was free WIFI or to the library, because I was staying with my mother until I found a job and a new place to live (a whole other story) and she didn't have internet, and I searched and applied for every job that I was qualified for. After about a week of logging in and viewing all the job opportunities you'll start seeing the same opportunities you've already applied for at which point I started logging in every few days instead of every day.

I've spent a wonderful year in Franklin county and it is now time to move south.

I love Alligator Point, Florida. It is a wonderful place to visit. It is a remote and quiet area and the beaches here are secluded and almost deserted in the winter time. I have really enjoyed my time here.

I will miss the serenity and peacefulness of the place and the beautiful scenery with wild birds and dolphins but I won't miss the bears and racoons that get into everyone's garbage making a mess or the dears that run out in front of vehicles causing major damage and even death to people who hit them and I certainly won't miss the ticks and fleas that are everywhere because of these animals.

I am looking forward to interacting with my family and friends on a full-time basis again and it is going to be great having variety and diversity back in my life. I can't wait to sink my teeth into a Sarussi sub or a Midnight sandwich at Versailles and then go shopping at Dolphin Mall or Shops at Sunset (two of my favorite places to shop).

I absolutely love house plants or should I say potted plants because I don't care if they are inside or out as long as they are in pots :) I'm not sure why it is that I would rather nurture plants in a pot, re-potting/re-planting as needed, instead of planting straight in the ground. I think because I like rearranging them every now and then. This may seem like extra work to seasoned "green-thumbers" but it has a satisfying effect for me :)

So now, after all my years of caring for potted plants, some making it, some not, I have come across a dilemma. I have this plant

and I lost the tag that comes with it with the plant's information so I have no idea what kind of plant this is. All I know is that I've been moving it around my house for months trying to find it a "happy spot" and, until recently, it wasn't happy. It's leaves kept turning yellow and I would water it and it would be o.k. for a little while and then leaves would start dropping so I would move it into another room and so on. This went on until one day I decided to put it on our deck. WOW! It made a huge difference! The plant flourished and grew new leaves and I was soooo excited....until today. I realized today that this plant needs to be transplanted soon and I have no idea how to do it. I have no idea what kind of plant this is and I have no idea how to transplant it. As you can see it's not planted in a typical soil, it's caked in pebbles and dirt!

I really love this plant so I am looking for answers from anyone out there that my have a clue as to what the name of this plant may be so I can Google the information that will help me transplant it so it can prosper. Have you seen this plant? Do you have one like it? How do you care for it?

For about a year now I've been checking out the world of online marketing. There are so many different ways to market online and to earn money online that at one point I got completely unfocused and had to step away and regroup.

During my hiatus, an online friend recommended I check out a program that she was in. I didn't want to join any program I was searching for the one program where I felt comfortable. A program that would teach a novice like myself how to make money online without investing an arm and a leg. So, as I promised my friend, I clicked on her link and checked out the program. I could tell right away that it wasn't like any other program I had read about or tried. This was different. This program was going to take me step by step into the world of marketing and teach me all about earning an honest income online. There is a support group where members can meet and chat with each other, get answers to questions right away or just hang out and cheer others on when they get referrals. This program was going to teach me how to build multiple income streams through safelists and traffic exchanges in less than an hour a day. After reading about it and viewing the videos I was hooked. I joined for FREE.

I've been in The 10K Challenge for one month now and the owner, Debbie, just revamped it and it is really looking promising. I have to admit I was skeptical but after meeting others who are in the program and being in contact with my mentor, Pamela, who is the person who referred me the skepticism is gone.

It's called the 10K Challenge and it is challenging but nothing is free right? You have to work, yes even online, in order to make money. But, if I stick with this program I will not only earn money, I will be earning every month for the rest of my life.

It's been a very hot summer! When weekends roll around all I want to do is stay in the house, in the air conditioning, nice and comfortable.

I really enjoy living on the beach but, and don't laugh because I just realized this, there are no flowers here. And you know how I came to realize this after living here a year? A jar of pickles. I bought a jar of the new Farmer's Garden pickles by Vlasic, which were pretty good by the way, and the jar reminded me of a country home filled with mason jars full of beautiful flowers so I decided to fill the jar with wild flowers after we ate all of the pickles.

When the jar was empty, I cleaned it out and set out to find some wild flowers to cut and put in my country-looking jar. I walked around our whole yard looking for flowers and managed to come up with these wild little yellow flowers on a weed and one purple flower growing on a vine and even though they were small I thought they were pretty enough for picking so I put them in my jar.

But now, every time I drive into our yard all I can think of is how there isn't enough color. I think I'll start a flower garden. Our yard needs color, lots of color.

It's been a very busy few days for me. I'm learning alot of new things and meeting new people in the process.

We made it through Tropical Storm Debby o.k. The road near the water has alot of debris from it but at least the road is still there.

My last post mentioned some ominous clouds while I was driving over Ocklochonee Bay but they were pretty mild compared to the clouds during this storm! I'm glad it's over and we can resume our daily lives.

Every once in a while I like to have a glass of wine with dinner and it is usually a white or blush wine because I like chilled wine best but the other day I bought a bottle of Liberty Creek's Chocolate Red Wine and it was pretty darn good. It's bold and robust with the slightest hint of chocolate. This is a real good wine for special occasions or family gatherings.

No matter what I'm doing during the day, when late afternoon comes around and the sun starts to go down, I like to sit on our deck and listen to the birds chirping, hearing the sound of the waves crashing on the rocks and the sound of my wind chimes blowing in the wind, and having a glass of wine fits right in with all of that.

Until two years ago, I would have never considered getting a tattoo. Tattoos were not popular during the late seventies when I was a teenager, at least not among the people I hung out with, so I never even thought about getting one until about two years ago when I decided that, when I turned 50, I would get a tattoo and it would include all four of my sons' names. I started planning it.

Last year when a tattoo studio opened up nearby I started checking out the owner, Dave, and his place of business, Apocalyptic Tattoo Studio. I started telling people about my decision to get a tattoo when I turned 50 and asked everyone that I spoke to if they knew of or had heard of the new tattooer, Dave. During the past year, I spoke to quite a few people and I heard nothing but positive things about him so I decided that he would be the one. I started creating it.

I finally decided what my tattoo was going to be and where I wanted it to be and I went over to Dave's to meet the man who would be tattooing my body and to talk with him about what I wanted and where I wanted it. I was a little nervous but my birthday was a couple of weeks away and I really wanted this to go as planned. I met Dave liked him right away. I told him what I wanted and asked him if I could come in a few days before my birthday to take a peak at the draft of what was going to be my first tattoo (I was so excited). He started designing it.

A week and a half later, I went over to Apocalyptic Tattoo Studio to see what Dave had designed for me. It was beautiful! I was very happy with how it turned out so I left and we confirmed my appointment for Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 10 am (one day after my birthday because I worked all day on my birthday).

I woke up Saturday feeling great and looking forward to getting my new tattoo. I wasn't as nervous as I thought I would be but I was still nervous so when I sat in the chair and he started prepping, I decided that I would try the breathing lessons I learned in Lamaze class thirty-three years ago when I was pregnant with my first son. Dave started carving and I started breathing. What I thought would be continuous pokes with a needle turned out to feel more like my skin was being sliced with a cat's claw but the breathing really helped to relax me. I continued breathing until Dave was done and, after all the planning, creating and designing, it took about one hour and Dave had carved a masterpiece on my right shoulder blade.

It is awesome and it has all four of my sons' names on it! I love it and want to share it with the world! So I took a picture of it and posted it on FB and I wrote this blog for everyone to see :)

They say that tattoos are addicting, I believe them. I can't say that I won't have another one done but if I decide to get another one and Dave is still around, you can bet he will be the one doing it. I recommend practiced breathing techniques for anyone who is getting their first tattoo. It helped me and it may help you too.

Last year, in September, 2011, I got a new puppy who I named Slinky. When I got Slinky she was 7 weeks old and weighed one pound. She was the cutest thing I had seen in a long time :-)

Of course, I ran out and bought her some toys right away, like the donut in the picture above, because every puppy-raising book I've read says that puppies should have plenty of toys to chew and play with. I bought puppy toys every chance I got. In addition to the donut, I bought this seal..

and this butterfly...

Slinky loved all of her toys but the butterfly became her favorite and one that she would not go to bed without so I nicknamed it her "binky". She treats her binky more delicately than the other toys and when we play she never brings me her "binky" butterfly for me to throw.

Slinky is 8 months old now and she has been an awesome addition to our lives. This morning as I was getting ready for work she started whining at the door. I looked around and didn't see her binky and I knew exactly what she wanted. When I opened the front door, I didn't see her binky anywhere on the front deck. I searched all over the house and, finally, in the screened in porch we found it! Slinky went right to it, gently picked it up and went back into the house :)

Slinky is smart, beautiful and has a great personality and we think it's so very cute how she handles her binky butterfly. I need to find one or two more in case something happens to this one.

Dolphins, Turtles and Bears, Oh My!

During the fall and winter months, dolphins play in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico near our home in Alligator Point. I always enjoy watching them. It's very relaxing. If you are ever in the mood for a getaway, Alligator Point may be a good place to check out. There is a convenience store nearby but there is no Walmart, Publix or a drive-thru for miles!

Sea turtle nesting season is May 1st through October 31st. During this time, residents and visitors who own or rent homes directly on the beaches of Alligator Point and Bald Point are required to keep their lights turned off at night. This is an extremely critical time for our sea turtles and a great learning experience for everyone.

Not to scare anyone but, at any time during the year you may see a bear or two in Alligator Point. Usually at night or very early morning they will be out foraging, knocking over garbage cans or just being curious (as seen in the picture). You may see one running across the road, going into a wooded area or just sitting back watching you. If you catch a bear near your home (most likely in your garbage can) make some loud noises to scare him/her off. They are somewhat of a nuisance but don't let that deter you from visiting or moving here :)

Since I became an Avon Independent Sales Representative in 2008 I've come across alot of people who sell or buy or know someone who sells or buys Avon products. It occurred to me that there are very few people who haven't heard of Avon and that's mostly the younger generation but not all of them. The majority of folks buy or sell or know someone who buys or sells Avon products and why wouldn't they, it is a company that started in 1886 and has over 6 million Independent Representatives worldwide. So it's no wonder that approximately 90% of the people I've met either sell it, have sold it, or have a relative who buys, sells or has sold Avon products.

It's amazing to think that one lady, Mrs. P.F.E. Albee who was the first "Avon Lady", started this wonderful "chain" of Independent Representatives and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight even 125 years later.

I hear lots of great stories about grandmothers or great-grandmothers who handed down this or that Avon perfume bottle, keepsake or ceramic figurines and I am curious to hear from my readers whether you sell/buy or know someone who sells/buys Avon products?

Aren't baby showers great!! All the fun games, food and baby stuff! When you first visit www.tinytillia.com you will see a page where you can sign in as a customer or create an account if you are a new customer. You will be able to shop without creating an account but, you will need to create an account, which includes entering your Avon Representatives name, in order to check out. If you don't have an Avon Representative you will be given the opportunity to search for one in your area so that she/he can receive credit for your purchase.
