REMEMBER WHEN HARPER HID IN A CLOSET

Happy birthday Johnny

noreply@blogger.com (WILLY) — Fri, 08 Nov 2019 17:35:00 +0000

When I was a kid, I played “3 and you’re in”, every day after school, until my mother would come home from work. Whoever was in net or in reality in front of, one of the garage doors in my apartment complex, pretended to be Johnny Bower. There was no crouching like a Jacques Plante or rolling around like the Gumper. No, a garage door required a stand up goalie with a quick glove hand, and the ability to poke check the ball away when any attacking forward decided to get fancy.

Johnny Bower lived three doors from my high school, where he handed out autographed photos to kids that were bold enough to knock on his door during the off seasons. Apparently they eventually named the street after him.

In his later years, if you lived in the west end of Mississauga, you would see Johnny shopping or showing up at a NHL signing event in the local malls. He was a regular at my wife’s store and one Christmas she asked if when he could sign a book about the Leafs that she was sending her father in Nova Scotia. Johnny said, he would come in the next day if she brought it in. He wrote a full page letter to her father inside the book.

I saw Johnny for the last time, about a week before he died. He was 93. He came charging through the Dollar Store followed by one of his kids or grandkids, I presume. I was in line at the cash and turned to a millennial texting behind me. Do you know who Johnny Bower is?, I asked.Yeah the kid said, I’m texting my dad right now.

PS here is Johnny’s single that knocked the Beatles out of No.1 spot on the Chum Charts for three weeks in 1965.

Finally the NDP know their place

noreply@blogger.com (WILLY) — Tue, 15 Oct 2019 20:42:00 +0000

This weekend Jagmeet Singh has come out again, reinforcing his promise that the NDP will not support a Conservative minority government.

Great news for the stalwart dippers who believe the libs and reformers are the same and the disaffected libs who are pissed at which ever broken promise upsets them the most.

Now if you live in a purple riding like the GTA, where the NDP grab any stranger off the street to wear orange for a couple of months, you can more comfortably vote red or if you live in a riding where they take their orange more seriously you can safely vote Orange.

As for the Greens, my sources tell me that they are planning a takeover of our most western island, which makes sense as it is the location with the most huggable trees in North America.

Under the continuing FPTP electoral system this is about as good as it can get.

We've been through this before when Ignanatieff decided to visit his homeland and rebuke the olive branch being offered by the other opposition parties, after Harper, in contempt of parliament, prorogued his minority government to avoid loosing a confidence vote.

The result of which was a near decade of darkness ruled by the oily blue meanies.

So with caution, I suggest that the dippers do us all a favour and keep Cullen away from the cameras and hold a liberal minority government to one simple concession for their votes.

End the FPTP in the first year.

As for my personal political compass I'm still sitting to the left and south of Gandhi.

There is something tragic about clowns named Chuckles

noreply@blogger.com (WILLY) — Wed, 09 Oct 2019 16:43:00 +0000

The famous one, surprisingly similar to our current Canadian version, was also known to take on many different disguises to conceal, cloak and gloss over his true identity, that of a clown.

A trait, which in the end, at least for the famous Chuckles sadly led to his demise, when he dressed as Peter Peanut to lead the Thanksgiving parade in Milwaukee, back in 1970, and was tragically crushed to death by a rogue elephant who tried to crack him open.

After reviewing the performance of the Conservative leader as reported by the bloggers around these parts, both from his hired help Kinsella and his most aggressive critic Simon, I am reminded of the famous words from the original Chuckles.

A little song, a little dance, a little seltzer down your pants.

How is the Warren Kinsella blog considered a Progressive Blogger?

They runs ads for Doug Ford. They ran ads for the conservatives the last time Harper ran.

They continue to promote the SNC bullshit.

Get them off this aggregator. Thank you.

The Conservative War Room for Hire has been reassigned

noreply@blogger.com (WILLY) — Sun, 17 Mar 2019 18:59:00 +0000

Apparently the Conservative War Room for Hire has been reassigned from pushing the #LAVSCAM bullshit to putting out a self inflicted fire caused by Chuckles, welcoming the Yellow Jacketed racists from Alberta to Parliament Hill. The Conservative's close relationship with White Nationalism has been a smouldering fire for many, many years.

Similarly to the effect of Climate Change on the world's remaining forests, where a smouldering under brush fire can quickly change into a full apocalyptic, inferno, the New Zealand white nationalist's attack on Muslims can wake up Canadians to our own White Nationalism problem.

Of course the way the Conservative party will go after White Nationalism will be to set their attack dog on Maxime Bernier and his People's Party of Canada.

After all conservative voters in Canada should have a choice between which type of racists they want to follow.

At least you get kissed

noreply@blogger.com (WILLY) — Tue, 05 Mar 2019 16:33:00 +0000

When my dad got into arguments and sometimes fist fights with passengers on his bus, the bosses at the TTC would try to suspend him. The union would back my dad and the TTC would back off. My dad was a union man, a bit feisty and always voted for the NDP.

“The Conservatives worked for the companies”, he would say. “The people always get screwed when the Conservatives are in power.” The Liberals in his opinion were sneaky. They worked for the bosses too, but they always gave you something before they would show their true colours. He’d say ‘if the Liberals are in, at least you’ll get kissed before you get fucked”.

I can finally smoke pot, legally in Canada. Thank you Justin.

Look for muggy, hot, stormy, stagnant and - well - nasty, lots of nasty.

Latin Americans should beware of the emergence of Ugly Canadians promoting the Trudeau Doctrine.

Donald Trump is a clear and present danger. But he needs to be understood.

Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer used every question they had to try to batter the government on this scandal but honestly failed to land a single blow or draw new details out.

Mr. Scheer seems to be someone who doesn’t quite grasp the historical political antecedents of the folks he keeps telling us are just ordinary working Canadians who want a pipeline or two, are worried about sinister United Nations plots, and, by the way, happen to blame immigrants for all their economic troubles and want the prime minster tried for treason.

While other yellow bellies have been spotted calling for Trudeau to be executed.

There are some highly educated types out there whose predictions are beyond dystopian.

Young children are being indoctrinated into the transgender movement before they are old enough to understand very much at all. Some of these children are being given puberty blocking hormones and undergoing surgeries.

However when one thinks about it more deeply one realizes that people are individuals and the idea of separating sex and gender from identity as a way of defining sexual equality may be the wrong way of looking at it.

The Cowardly Lion needs more than to be brave. He needs to learn to be a leader. The Tin Woodman needs more than a heart. He needs to learn to connect with people and offer positive directions. And the Scarecrow needs more than brains. He needs to realize that his politics have to stand apart from his religion.

Unless you earn more than $200,000 a year corporate tax cuts likely make your life worse.

Whiskey, but only after slaking your bloodlust writing.

Oh and a professional political hack, aggressively promoting conservative talking points for his clients.

Melancholia for the rest of yah

I drew "The Legacy" a while back when Stephen Harper, our former prime minister, the one that hid in a closet when we were attacked, decided to make Canada a petrol state and merged the Ministry of Environment with the Ministry of Natural Resources.

For my American friends Harper was a Prime Minister, sort of a cross between Bush and Trump, an evangelical who didn't tweet.

With humanity only having 82 years left, if we continue to do nothing about reducing the burning of fossil fuels, consider it a story of hope that some of us will survive into the next century.

Government Negotiations

Do you think that it might have been wiser to wait for the federal court decision on the legality of the approval process used by the National Energy Board when giving the go ahead for expansion of the Kinder Morgan bitumen pipeline, before spending 9 billion plus dollars on what was originally purchased for 110 million dollars by Kinder Morgan, ten years ago?

Considering that we all knew that Harper’s National Energy Board was nothing more than a corrupt industry rubber stamp. Isn’t that one of the many reasons we got rid of Harper, including of course hiding in a closet when we were attacked (in case anyone forgot)?

Somehow I am now supposed to be confident that our government can successfully renegotiate NAFTA with the Orange Asshole.

Jesus I’m sounding like a conservative.

Dating Apps

My son has become a player, in his dad’s mind. He has three different dating apps that apparently are for daters wanting three different types of dates. He showed me one app in action where he simply clicked on a portfolio at 3:00 am the night before and now, 12 hours later when he logged back in the woman replied, “yeah I’m free tonight”.

The last time time I dated was in 1970 and my pickup line was “do you want to screw?”. The two us either ended up finding a quiet corner or we went out and blew bubbles in the park. It seemed a lot easier then.

But it’s 2018, so I joined Our Time, a dating app for old people. Comparatively, his two clicks over a 12 hour period resulting in a date of some type, equals my 11 months with multiple pages of texts going back and forth to get to have a coffee with a cool woman.

What happened to all those young girls I blew bubbles with in seventies?

They’ve changed.

Edibles

Bought some gummy edibles on line the other day.

Ever since the Cash Office Manager (an amazing girl who had a great story about being in a Mexican jail for a month) of the Miracle Mart Department store I worked at in the late seventies, made all the staff that had to work on a May 24th weekend in the garden centre, hash brownies, I’ve been leery of the dosage of edibles.

That day I spent over three hours beaming on top of ten skids of peat moss, after just one and I was the only person that knew tomato plants from strawberries (after all I was management).

Anyway, that is why I bought the small seven dollar pack of lower dose candy this time around. They were fine. The high was like how you feel about an hour after you do a toke.

Although next time I’ll get a better dosage, my real complaint about edibles is the two hour wait for any effect to occur and by then it is usually too late in the day or night to take a second one and wait another two hours.

I think I will only do edibles when I have a whole day free, taking another one as soon as the first one takes affect etc. It will be a lot easier that sneaking out for a toke every now and then to hide from my grandkids.

Unless anybody has got a better suggestion and thank you for your time, I feel much better.

Trump is about to get his wish, lock children up longer

noreply@blogger.com (WILLY) — Wed, 20 Jun 2018 16:51:00 +0000

In the US it is currently against the law to imprison children who enter the US illegally. The 1997 law known as the the Flores Settlement Agreement (Flores) set national standards regarding the detention, release, and treatment of all children in immigration detention and underscores the principle of family unity.

It requires that:

Juveniles be released from custody without unnecessary delay, and in order of preference to the following: a parent, legal guardian, adult relative, individual specifically designated by the parent, a child welfare licensed program, or, alternatively when family reunification is not possible, an adult seeking custody deemed appropriate by the responsible government agency.

Where they cannot be released because of significant public safety or flight risk concerns, juveniles must be held in the least restrictive setting appropriate to age and special needs, generally, in a nonsecure facility licensed by a child welfare entity and separated from unrelated adults and delinquent offenders.

Under previous administrations, illegal immigrants with children, seeking asylum were detained together. If they had relatives living in the US, individuals or groups in the US that would sponsor them, they were released and then instructed to appear for a future hearing about their claims. This is the “Catch and Release” phrase, that the administration, Republican politicians and the majority of Trump supporters have been objecting to.

The Republicans are now working on a law to repatriate the children that have been separated from their parent(s) and then imprison them together in military bases along the southern border until their refugee cases are processed, ignoring of course the stipulations stated above.

So compassionate.

On the down side I probably won’t be able to enter the states anymore.
