The Fastest Street Car in America Title Goes To…

Back in September AMSOIL announced its sponsorship of the 2009 Hot Rod Drag Week which was kicking off in Muncie, Indiana. As usual, this year’s challenge proved to be full of excitement with a few mishaps along the way. From failed torque converters to blown transmissions, participant had their plates full with trying to keep their cars up to par during the challenge. For those who couldn’t, there was almost always a fellow competitor willing to lend a hand and get them back on the road.

Bragging rights for the Fastest Street Car in America went to Larry Larson in his ’67 Chevy II in the Unlimited class. Despite a lifter breakdown in the middle of a cornfield, Larson and engine builder Mike Moran ran the best time with an average E.T. of 7.25 and a speed of 204 MPH. For the second year in a row, Larry’s Chevy II beat out some of the best in the country.

Below is an overview of the major class winners.

Quickest Four-Cylinder: Jon Huber in his ’79 Ford Mustang is referred to as ‘The little Ford that could…and does.” Jon dealt with a failed torque converter early in the competition, but a group of racers helped him roadside to get him back on his way. His final timeslip turned out an average of 9.37 at 147 MPH for the class win.

Big-Block Naturally Aspirated: Steve and Gary Satterlee’s ’90 Ford Mustang had a 632ci Chevy engine installed, giving it the power it needed to take the title in this class. They built the car in 90 days with only the motor to start with, giving them their final average at 10.15.

Diesel Class: In a ’94 Ford Mustang with Duramax diesel installed, Mike Wood beat out some heavy trucks also competing in this class. With an average E.T. of 10.08 and 147 MPH, this ride also got 38 MPG. Now that is impressive.

Quickest Mopar: Michael Crow is known for exceptional sportsmanship, taking last years’ Spirit of Drag Week award. This year in his’73 Plymouth Cuda, his average E.T. of 10.38 at 131 MPH earned him the title of Quickest Mopar.

Big Block Power-Adder: A favorite among the crew, Mike Thompson and his ’68 Chevy Caprice took an average of 9.64 at 141 MPH in a car that had never made a pass before Drag Week.

Modified Naturally Aspirated: Jay Brown and his ’64 Ford Galaxie fought a good battle with the very close second place winner this year. Jay competed in 2008, and his car has been in feature stories. His average E.T. was 9.52, with second place right behind him at 9.58. A close call, but this modified ride ultimately had what it took.

Modified Power-Adder: Rick “Doc” Fox really is a Doctor, and drives his ’67 Corvette every day in his commute to the office. No stranger to Drag Week, this year Rick took the class win with an average E.T. of 9.02 and 149 MPH.

Pro-Street Naturally Aspirated: With another close call in his class running within a tenth of the second place driver, Curt Johnson and his ’94 Chevy S-10 truck took first place with an average E.T. of 9.13.

Pro-Street Power-Adder: Michael Roy and his ’71 Chevy Monte Carlo is no stranger to Drag Week, this year convincing his friends to join in with their cars. With an average of 8.65, this was Mike’s first class win at Drag Week and his friends were there to witness it.

Daily Driver & Spirit of Drag Week: Geoff Dugopolski in his ’78 Chevy Malibu not only won the Daily Driver bracket race, but the respect of his peers with the Spirit of Drag Week award. This award is given to the person that best exemplifies what it means to help others competing in the event. He helped more than a few of his competitors get back on track, while still ending with an average E.T. of 12.32.

Overall every participant showed a fierce drive and willingness to not only win, but help out their fellow drivers. As the official lubricant of this event, AMSOIL is proud to have played a part in each of their successes. Pitbull Shows His Stuff At SEMA 2009

Sean Baisden's 2008 Chevy 2500HD Duramax was a featured vehicle for ANSA Exhaust at last week’s SEMA Show. Blaisden, who goes by the nickname Pitbull, described his build this way.

We started with a 2008 Chevy 2500HD Duramax Diesel, crew cab long bed 4X4, sandstone in color. The project got some height by lifting the truck 11 inches using a CST lift kit with Fox Shocks w/ res. and a Performance Accessory 3-inch Body Lift. The suspension kit along with the Gear Alloy 715c 22-inch wheels, custom Pitbull Motor Toyz traction bars and skid plate, and Hellwig front and rear sway bars were powder coated candy red. The rims were fitted with a set of 40X15.5X22 Toyo Open Country MTs.

This was only the beginning.

We then took the truck over to the Upholstery Zone in Simi Vally Ca.where Ramon, the owner, took charge of transforming the interior by removing the seats and covering the centers in wine colored suede. Then the door panels, pillars, headliner and dash were removed and covered in black leather, wine and charcoal gray suede. The interior was finished off with a brushed stainless US Speedo, Pioneer D3 head unit and Rockford Fosgate sound systems with 5 amps and 16 speakers that have all been custom mounted in the door panels, behind and under the rear seats.

Once the inside was done we had to put some splash on the outside. So we sent the truck off to Jerks Design in Thousand Oaks, CA where we removed 40 pieces out of the interior, sanded them smooth and painted them the color for the truck and reinstalled them. Next it was the outside. We painted the new Ansani Design front bumper and installed the three 8-inch KC lights and wired them into the high beams. Next we sanded the mirrors smooth and painted them gloss black. Then we had some custom gun metal gray tribal flames that were highlighted with candy red and silver pinstriping to tie it all together. Finished those off with silver pearl ghost flames over top. To complete the outside we installed a set of Amp Research power steps, GM chrome handles and Precision Billet black grill. After all that, the truck was off to Line-X were the bed, bed rails and toolbox was sprayed.

Now it was time for some performance so back to the shop where the truck was outfitted with a pair of Optima Batteries, AMSOIL Synthetic Diesel Oil, AMSOIL Synthetic Fuel Efficient Automatic Transmission Fluid and Severe Gear Gear Lube and a new set of billet reusable Pure Power Inc. oil, trans, and fuel filters. Next the Injen Technology intake system (with AMSOIL Ea filter), PPE Hot +4 programmer, FASS fuel filter/air separator system and 4inch ANSA Silverline turbo back exhaust system with their new twin 8-inch black chrome stacks were installed through the bed of the truck.

To finish the truck off we installed a pair of 16-inch Spal fans on a custom Pitbull Motor Toyz fan shroud assembly and a Custom polished aluminum 35 gallon Propane Tank located under the bed to feed the digital propane system, thereby giving the truck another 75hp and 150tq. This truck was cruising, doing 90mph and getting 28mpg.

Baisden admits the project was a lot of work, “but it all paid off. It is a head turner and always gets attention no matter where we are.”

SEMA: Day 3 Begins

A major event like SEMA attracts media from all over the world. Historically the show has been a rich resource of story ideas for journalists and editors. In more recent years, with the advent of the Internet, we see increasing numbers of camera crews shooting footage for streaming video and other forms of distribution. Radio programs set up shop here as well. In short, it's a car lover's extravaganza and a media feast. Throw a few celebrities into the mix (Jay Leno created some buzz with his Twin-Turbo Camaro) and you have the kind of chemistry that makes this a one of a kind event.

Speaking of Camaros, this year's show has featured more Camaros than ever, a car that brings panache and style back to the once fabled muscle machine. Some of the design schemes for the Camaro today were voted on via Facebook, something that you didn't see forty years ago.

Not to be outdone, Ford unveiled a Cobra Jet Mustang which was.... hot. And you can see no diminishing of passion for cars in the Ford booth.

The old street rod and hot rod lovers will find what they are looking for here, too, but the import performance cars are increasingly dominant and highly visible throughout the show. Many of these cars are being photographed for future magazine and blog exposure, so stay tuned to your favorite sources of enthusiast information.

It's Showtime: SEMA 2009

All of yesterday's forklifts, empty crates and debris has magically disappeared. The red carpets have been rolled out. And SEMA 2009 is underway.

A few things have changed and some remain the same. One change is the location of the New Product Showcase, which used to be in the area between the North and Central Halls. It is now on the second floor of the South Hall. Registration has also moved to this location, and the lines were long for those who had not taken care of these details in advance.

The show itself fills an enormous space, as you can see here from these shots in but one of the four show halls.

It's too early to say what the big story of the show will be. Here at AMSOIL the story remains constant, new products of outstanding quality for specific applications. We're thrilled to be part of the spectacle that is SEMA.

Excitement Builds On Eve of SEMA 2009

When the opening bell rings for SEMA 2009 Tuesday morning, the chaos of the last days before a major show like SEMA will be utterly forgotten. All the scurrying to get vehicles in place, to make sure all is polished and preened, to get carpets laid, displays identified, will be forgotten as quickly as a tissue of dream. Instead, the vast orderliness of a massive spectacle will be all laid out in jewel bedecked wonderment.

The weather is nothing short of perfection with a brilliant sun illuminating the gleaming spectacle of cars and colors and chrome laid out on the apron in front of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The New Product Showcase remained concealed while judges selected winners in the numerous categories. A new Powersports section has been ushered in for the first time. And a whole host of new companies have come for the first time to share wares as diverse as composites and motorcycles, web services and global tracking.

The show's dimensions remain immense while advances in technology in every imaginable facet of the industry has made an imprint.

The media, as usual, is out in force, but nowadays automotive journalists are posting their observations online as they happen. In short, the Internet is very much a presence here, a desert space once remote as nowhere.

The images here hardly tell the story, but give a glimpse that something's happening here. Stay tuned.

2009 AMSOIL/Mopar Muscle Engine Challenge Declares a Winner

Last month 8 talented teams of engine builders from across the country descended upon Comp Cams test facility in Memphis to determine which engine was best designed for performance and cost. Last week Mopar Muscle magazine posted the final standings of the AMSOIL/Mopar Muscle Engine Challenge on their website.

As title sponsor for this event AMSOIL was in every engine lending a hand in improving power and performance. Over the course of three days the engines were put through rigorous testing and given an overall rating based on peak horsepower and torque. In the final analysis, the retail cost of parts were tallied and factored into the final score which ultimately determined the winning engine.

This year Schurbon Engine and Machine teamed up with Mopar City to build an impressively powerful, economical stroker big block and earned the first place spot. Nearly 600 horsepower was created by using stock crank and rods, flat-tappet camshaft and cast pistons to create the winning formula. Second place went to Chenowith Speed and Machine with their highest combined horsepower and torque score, with LaRoy engines coming in at a very close third.

Twin Turbo IS-F @ Miami International Auto Show

Lexus has on display a bright orange twin turbo IS-F at the Miami International Auto Show till next Sunday, the handiwork of Brian Fox, Fox Marketing.

Definitely, the car is a hit for Lexus, attracting plenty of attention to the brand, and the model line.

It's an impeccable build, and even that which you can’t see is superb, including AMSOIL Signature Series Synthetic Motor Oil and drivetrain fluids.

Fox explained why he likes this car. "I love the power; it's a fast car. You're talking 625 horsepower. And I also like that I don't have to change my oil all the time."

Amongst the other Lexus vehicles on display it stands out as cream of the crop, front and center.

Four Wheeler Edition of Top Truck Challenge Hits Newsstands

Back in June AMSOIL sponsored the 2009 Top Truck Challenge in Hollister, CA. To recap, the readers of Four Wheeler Magazine select ten rigs to compete against another in a series of extreme challenges over the course of three days. This year's bragging rights went to Team Green driver David Green and co-driver Nick Souchuk out of Red Deer, Alberta. They just managed to beat out Team Jerome in the final event, coined the Tank Trap, in which they had no other option but to perform well to keep their lead. First Look at AMSOIL New Products Headed to SEMA

One of the highlights of the SEMA Show is the New Product Showcase (NPS) featuring the latest innovations in performance, function and style. Because of the ever growing number of new products, the Showcase has outgrown its space and will be moved to a new location in the South Hall where the displays will be less cramped.

For companies that participate, there is an array of awards up for grabs in a variety of award categories. Last year, AMSOIL took home one of ten 2008 SEMA Global Media Awards for the Injen/AMSOIL Intake System. Custom Cadillac Escalade EXT Headed to SEMA

The excitement is building and final plans being hammered out for the SEMA Show just weeks away. AMSOIL has been busily preparing for another successful appearance at this year's show, and word is spreading throughout the car builder scene on what AMSOIL can bring. AMSOIL will be installed in more high-profile vehicles than ever before. Here's a peek at another SEMA 2009 AMSOIL-installed ride.

The Custom Shop out of Flanagan IL is no stranger to the SEMA scene. They've previously done builds for Ford Motor Company, General Motors, Nissan and Toyota. So when they approached AMSOIL with their latest project, a 2007 Cadillac Escalade EXT with matching enclosed trailer, we had to jump on board with a product that can endure such hauling. The Custom Shop is filming the build from start to finish for V8-TV, and plans on filming out the finished project right there in Vegas. The vehicle theme is designed to create a high-end SUV that will pull a custom built trailer, all with Air Ride Load Leveling Technology.

‘Custom’ is the common term for this build. Modifications include a custom show paint job, Pewter Pearl Color Shift top with a Pearl White bottom airbrushed with Candy Sunset center. From there, a custom cowl hood, tinted windows, 22’ chromed rims and handles, right down to custom pedals all work to make this Cadillac unlike any other on the streets. That’s just the SUV itself; the matching trailer it tows holds its own with a complete audio/video system including TV and DVD player, air suspension and display area inside.

22nd Annual NSRA Southeast Nationals Coming to Tampa This Weekend

Tampa, FL is the next and final stop for 2009 as the NSRA ushers in over 1,600 pre-1980 specialty vehicles to be on display over the weekend. One of the few NSRA events that allows cars manufactured through 1979 and older, this weekend is set to draw crowds from all over the Southeastern United States and further.

The whole family will find something to enjoy with a swap meet, Women’s World area with arts and crafts, model car display, a lip-sync contest and much more. Sunday will bring the ‘Circle of Winners’ with the award-winning vehicles displayed with an awards ceremony to follow. More than 80 manufacturer and dealer displays will be on hand in the exhibit building, with all activities open to the public. If you are in the area be sure to make a stop and get your fill of beautifully restored specialty vehicles.

Anticipation Building for SEMA 2009

AMSOIL is preparing for the 2009 Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association (SEMA) show coming to Las Vegas in November. Just about every leader in the automotive industry will be in attendance to showcase their offerings to the performance automotive world. Again this year, AMSOIL is installed in several high-profile cars that are sure to turn heads. Below are just a few glimpses of what to expect on display at this year’s show, all proudly running AMSOIL.

First up is Air-Zenith, a world-class manufacturer for DC 12Volt Air Suspension compressors and accessories. They will be in attendance with their AMSOIL-lubed 1985 Porsche 944. A show car indeed, it is slated for many upcoming appearances in various shows over the next year. With plenty of fancy modifications from the door handles to the carpet in the interior, AMSOIL was happy to oblige their request for the best lubricants to install in this ride.

Up next is Mike Bonanni of Double Down Motorsports and his jaw-dropping 2009 Nissan 370Z Touring car (top left). Mike uses this to race in ‘Time Attack’ events, which is the next generation for the tuner enthusiast. His Nissan is unlike most anything else out there, and with several accomplishments already under his belt Mike is sure to emerge on the scene a star.

Finally, David Williams with Kustom Edge will arrive to showcase his sweet truck that is sure to get people talking. A 2006 Chevy 1500 decked out in 28’ rims, Chevy SS front bumper and an amazing paint job will show people why Kustom Edge evolved from a garage operation to a full-blown customs shop. Attention to detail from the inside out makes this ride worthy of all the attention it’s sure to receive.

These are just three examples of what we’re up to. AMSOIL will be installed in more show cars than ever, from a group of extremely talented Camaro builders, to Hemi's, Lexus, and beyond. NSRA Golden State Nationals Coming to Sacramento

If you're in the Sacramento or Tampa areas in the coming weeks, you still have a chance to attend one of these exciting shows.

The first weekend in October brings the NSRA 8th Golden State Nationals to sunny Sacramento, CA. The region’s largest and most spectacular custom car show will bring thousands of street rods valued at more than $56 million combined. Aside from the thousands of main attractions on display, vendors, live entertainment and special events will make this a remarkable way to usher in fall.

Sacramento also brings additional attractions not found at all NSRA events. A special display of ‘Tether Cars’ will be there every day of the event. These miniature race cars can reach speeds of up to 130 mph, and additional games and activities will feature something fun for the entire family. More than $84,000 in SuperPrize giveaways will be awarded, as well as a special “$unday $weep$takes” giveaway for participants of the Golden State Nationals.

Hot Rod Drag Week Photo Gallery

For those who missed it, Hot Rod Drag Week 2009 was a hoot. One team came all the way from Australia, purchasing a pickup on EBay to bring home after the week was through. Evidently this was not their first rodeo and it's very likely that they'll be back. (See the red pickup here on the right.)

When all is said and done, Drag Week is no drag. It's an adrenaline rush from start to finish. This kind of adrenaline is high octane heart pounding and invigorating. On Friday night in Muncie the fans were out in droves, the best kind of free entertainment you can find anywhere. No one wanted to quit and the drivers made a late night of it, doing all they could to more one more slot up the ladder toward higher ground.

One of these street legal machines reached 200 miles per hour in a quarter mile run. That's smokin'. There are cars that fail to reach that in five miles at Bonneville.

Look for coverage in an upcoming issue of Hot Rod magazine. if the bug bites, maybe you'll want to be part of it next year. And just maybe we'll see you there.

Mahatma Gandhi once said that there's more to life than simply increasing speed. But going fast sure is fun, and there have been a lot of drivers having a heart-pounding good time here.

Tonight is the culmination of the 2009 Hot Rod Drag Week which began in Muncie and has returned today after touring tracks in Michigan and Ohio. As you can see here the weather is simply gorgeous at Muncie Dragway.

More than 109 cars have made the trek and a big turnout of locals to watch things wind up and wind out. Our man on the scene noted that one guy running AMSOIL has 1700 horsepower and is having a lot of fun in the process.

Big Week for AMSOIL

AMSOIL is all over the place lately, and not by accident. In an economy that has people hesitant on buying anything they don’t need, it is especially important to get the message out there about how they don’t need to change their oil every 3,000 miles. AMSOIL has been hard at work to get this very message to consumers who are still following the old 3,000 mile oil change myth. Below are two areas AMSOIL has been increasing exposure to prove that not only is using synthetics better for the environment, your wallet, and vehicle, it stands up to some pretty tough challenges as well, whatever kind of vehicle you drive.

The 2009 AMSOIL Mopar Muscle Engine Challenge is underway this week at Comp Cams test facilities in Memphis, TN. The challenge details: teams of builders build engines to put through rigorous tests to prove they can take the heat. In a series of dyno tests the engines are given several ‘pulls’ to gauge horsepower and torque, and the engine that has the most of both in 3 scored pulls in 45 minute time frames wins. Once the engine is on the block there is no tuning allowed with the exception of a few brief moments in the second 45 minute period, but it doesn’t stop the clock. If three qualifying pulls are not met within the time frame, that engine is out. With the competition currently in progress, it’s anyone’s guess who will come out on top. From what we hear, it has been one powerfully exciting week.

In other action, this week is Hot Rod Drag Week, an event like none other. In addition to five days of drag racing, these street legal racers will also put in a thousand miles of highway drive time as they vie for prizes in eleven categories. There will be no maintenance crews in big rigs or support trailers, only the tools they carry along for the ride.

Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan will play host to the events this week, beginning at Muncie and culminating back at Muncie after completing the circuit. This week long event is just as much about dependability as it is about speed, with little surprises along the way to prove they are doing it of their own power and not being hauled around on a trailer from track to track. At each track, a driver can take as many passes as he or she wants to achieve the best E.T. (elapsed time) but too much time can cost a person the race. Once they hand in their best time at one track, they are given maps to the next.

Last Chance to Attend NSRA Events in the Northeast: Burlington, VT

Burlington, VT is the setting for the Northeast Nationals, one of the final NSRA-sanctioned events of 2009, September 18-20. For the 16th year, Burlington will usher in over 1600 street rods to be displayed over the weekend. Set in the historic streets of Burlington, the Northeast Nationals promise to end 2009 on a vibrant note. Over 50 manufacturer and Dealer displays will be on hand, as well as a swap meet, ‘Women’s World’ with arts and crafts, and special ‘Streets of Rods’.

Burlington VT is located in Lake Champlain Valley, a picturesque city with plenty of sights and sounds for the entire family to enjoy. Come out and support this dedicated group, and see vintage spectacles all lined up for up close and personal viewing.

Kalamazoo Next Stop for NSRA Nationals

Kalamazoo, MI is gearing up to welcome the NSRA Street Rod Nationals North event coming up this weekend. Starting Friday, September 11 over 2400 street rods will descend on the city for display through Sunday, September 13. Last year's event brought rain the entire weekend, but that didn’t stop the die-hard enthusiasts from turning out and enjoying the scene. This year the weather looks to be much better with sunny skies expected, which will impact the number of spectators making the trip this year. The three day event offers something for everybody with over 110 manufacturer and dealer displays, arts and crafts, swap meet, and the special ‘Streets of Rods’ found at most NSRA events this year.

Kalamazoo is home to several other attractions once you’ve had your fill of vintage street rods. From theatres to zoos, there is plenty to do the entire weekend. The Gilmore Car Museum in nearby Hickory Corners is currently running its attraction ‘History- A ¼ Mile at a Time’ featuring a drag race exhibit that details the history of the sport. Be sure to make it if you're in the area. It'll be a weekend your family won’t soon forget. NSRA events have played a pivotal role in the street rodder market and it’s only getting bigger each year.

Off-Road Design Puts AMSOIL to the Test

Stephen Watson of Off-Road Design (ORD) Racing approached AMSOIL months back in a bid to obtain sponsorship for the grueling Best in the Desert Vegas to Reno Race. AMSOIL likes challenges, so we jumped on board to help Stephen and his team make it to the end. ‘The Long Way’ 1000 mile race is a 3-day event with over 300+ miles of open-desert endurance racing with only a one hour service period each night for maintenance. Temperatures rose to over 100 degrees, and the desert takes no prisoners. The silt beds of the Nevada desert provided dust that often made it impossible to see much past the hood of the car. Add some rocky terrain with some good ruts to catch even the mightiest trucks, and you’ve got yourself a challenge that doesn’t yield.

In an Ultra4 Buggy built for Off-Road Racing, ORD managed to lock in 2nd place out of 11 competitors in their class. Despite the dust bath the truck received during this race, ORD knew they had nothing to worry about with AMSOIL Ea Oil and Air filters installed and AMSOIL in the engine. Their impressive result made room for them in their next big event, the King of the Hammers in February. AMSOIL is proud to be a part of their success, and will keep up with them as they continue their climb to the top of the ranks. With results like these, they will no doubt take their star up several notches in the Ultra4 world of Off-Road Racing.

2009 Diesel Power Challenge Hits News Stands Everywhere

Back in May, Diesel Power Magazine orchestrated another successful Diesel Power Challenge with AMSOIL on board for the third year as a major sponsor. With each year steadily getting better, Diesel Power Magazine called the 2009 challenge the ‘best event yet’ with competitors showing no signs of slowing or stopping.

Coverage of the event includes two lengthy stories appearing in the August and September issues of Diesel Power. The August issue provided overviews of the competitors, with all the details surrounding each of their modified machines. The September feature, more than forty pages worth, is titled Diesel Death Match, featuring 14 diesel guzzling, fire-snorting monsters producing enough horsepower and torque to make a diesel lover swoon. The setups ranged from mild to wild in this competition, which in the end produced one winner.

To quickly recap, the Diesel Power Challenge pits 15 trucks against one another in a series of tests designed to reveal the nation’s ultimate street-legal diesel powered vehicle. Readers of Diesel Power Magazine vote and decide on the final roster of competitors, but only one emerges with the title. In a three-day period, these diesels are put through trials and tribulations designed to dismantle the trucks not fit to be crowned all while a film crew is on hand to capture each moment, whether they fail, prevail or both.

Overall Robert Evans of Reno, NV took home the glory, but the others didn’t make it easy for him and it was close right up to the end. Each year brings out the drive, determination, and the desire to win within every competitor. With a fierce passion to build a truck that has the wherewithal to defeat each phase of this challenge, builders arrive ready to prove themselves. AMSOIL is always pleased to be on board providing lubricants that can withstand these rigorous conditions and help conquer the course.

This year’s event will be aired on Four Wheeler Television on the Outdoor Channel sometime in the fourth quarter. Only time will tell if Robert Evans can defend his title next year, or if the torch will be passed to the next worthy diesel-powered champion.

The end of summer brings another NSRA event to Richmond, VA August 28-30th. For the 5th year, Richmond is hosting the NSRA Richmond Nationals and it is sure to be another success. AMSOIL is a sponsor of this fine organization, and as we head into fall there are only 4 more NSRA Nationals events left. This is your chance to see more than 1,000 street rods in one place if you happen to be in the vicinity of Richmond and surrounding areas. Widebody Stang Makes For Red Hot Cover Shot

Congrats to KC Chou of APR Performance for capturing the cover of this month’s 5.0 Mustang & Super Fords. The turbocharged and AMSOIL-lubed 2008 5.0 Mustang boasts 435 horsepower and 460 lb-ft torque at the rear wheels at 8.5 pounds of boost. Wearing a lightweight carbon fiber widebody kit we can imagine this is one phenomenal ride.

NSRA Street Rod Nationals Celebrates 40th Anniversary

It is one of Louisville’s premiere conventions with an economic impact of more than $15 million. It’s the NSRA’s Street Rod Nationals, which opened Thursday and runs through the weekend. As of yesterday nearly eleven thousand rods were registered, all pre-1949. The quantity of Ford ’32 Deuces is staggering, but everything else under the sun was here, including at least one item from 1903.

This was the NSRA’s 15th trip to Louisville, though flooding of the Ohio River earlier this week threatened to disrupt the spectacle. To be sure, there was no evidence of anything but sunshine and blue skies yesterday. With the Kentucky Exposition Center renovation complete, conditions could not have been more perfect for a car show.

It is the third year AMSOIL has been an official product sponsor of the NSRA. AMSOIL has been offering rodders the power of synthetics since 1972. Many of today's oils have significantly trimmed back on additives that help the oil protect engines and prevent cam and follower wear. AMSOIL offers two high zinc formula oils especially suited for vintage cars. AMSOIL synthetic motor oils and drivetrain fluids are installed in the NSRA Giveaway Car that was assembled by Indiana's Brookville Roadsters.

Hundreds of companies put their wares on display inside the convention center, and thousands of rodders put the love of the lives on display outside in every available parking space and across the grassy apron to the west. There are also a wide range of seminars and workshops designed to help rodders solves challenges in making or keeping their equipment road worthy.

In short, it's a great event and even if you're not a "car guy" it's well worth a gander at least once in a lifetime simply for the color and art and experience.
