iOS 7: Contact Blocking Fail!

iOS 7 came with this new feature that allows you to block contacts. I was extremly excited for this because I wanted to block all the ads from my carrier. Apparently, this is not possible. Unfotunatly, I couldn't block any number that came from my carrier. Too bad!

iOS 7: Keyboard Shortcuts Not Working!

I've been using iOS 7 for a few days now with no problems. Until I noticed this, keyboard shoertcuts are not working with me! I use a lot of keyboard shortcuts, so it would be great if Apple fixed this problem in the next beta version of iOS 7.

Hopefully Apple will fix this soon but I'm curious if anyone else had this problem?

Dots, a Game About Connecting

Dots is a simple FREE game on the app store that you should defiantly check out. Here's the link:

This game is very simple, it shows you some colored dots, you just link each dot with other dots of the same color. To connect the dots, you swipe from each dot to the other. But you can't connect the dots unless they were next to each other vertically, or horizontally.

This game has a time limit, you should connect as much as you can on time. It is really a great game.

iOS 7: Home-Screen

We finally reach the main course, the home-screen. The real flat design doesn't show until now. Take a look at it.

Unlocking the device is the first thing I would like to go through. When I say unlocking I mean the animation while going from the lock-screen to the home-screen. It now doesn't just show the apps all at once, instead it shows one icon coming at a time which I consider a good change.

The home-screen is all about applications. So, each icon has a new look now. They don't have that shadow on the back anymore and they don't look like they're in 3D. Now we can clearly see flat-but-cool icons on the home-screen. Here's a comparison between the home-screens of iOS 6 and iOS 7:

One other noticeable change is the dock. It used to be on a glass shelf that shows reflection, but now the dock is like all the other icons except for the blurry background.

Also, on previous iOS versions we had the search page, but now we don't. Now you just swipe down anywhere on the screen except the top and the search bar will pop-up.

Folders have new exciting look and features just as well. They now have total new design and you can put as many apps as you want in a folder. There are also pages in each folder on iOS 7 and we can change the names of the folders just like we used to do in the past.

One last thing, the labels design of iOS 7 can be noticed on the home-screen. You can see the icons and the wallpaper moving as you move the device.

I think that Apple did a good job on the home-screen. The design is cool and some annoying things we had on our home-screens are gone, that's good enough for me!

iOS 7: Lock-Screen

Another change in iOS 7 is the lock-screen. For the first time ever we don't find the classic slide-to-unlock on our devices, isn't that cool?

First of all, there is no arrow to drag to unlock. Now you can slide anywhere on the screen from left to right to unlock. However, if you had notifications an you didn't want to open them, you should slide from the bottom of the screen. This means sliding your notifications opens them as usual..

Next we have the camera. The camera is still the same. You still slide from the bottom right to the top to run the camera.

Then we go to the new stuff, now you can slide to your notification center directly from the lock-screen. In the previous versions of iOS, we had to unlock first. You can now also access control center from the lock-screen by sliding from the bottom to the top.

iOS 7 features the labels design. This label design works on the lock-screen as well as the home screen. What this feature does is that it makes the wallpaper moves when you look at the screen from different angles. It sort-of looks like the screen now has 3D in it.

Other things just stayed the same but flattened, such as the passcode, emergency calls, and the clock. By the way, everything now has this new thinner font.

For me, I like the new lock-screen and the new design, mainly because it's changed. The old lock-screen was getting boring. I did not find any problems with the lock-screen, that's good enough for me. What about you?

iOS 7: Powering On & Off

iOS 7 came out for developers with a lot of changes. I'll try to go through any changes I find on my trip with iOS 7. So lets start with the powering.

First of all, the way you turn your device on and of is still the same. You still hold the power button for a few seconds to turn your device on or off. However, the design has changed. When you hold the power button to turn of your device it shows you the same old options: Slide to Power Off-button, and the cancel-button. But we don't find anything to move to power off. All we have now is a big red bar with the caption: "slide to power off" but nothing to move like that arrow we are used to since the first iOS. I guess this is a part of the "flat" plan. Plus, the cancel-button is also flattened and redesigned.

Turning the device on has also changed , but not so much. The only difference I found was the Apple logo. The scratch that used to cut the logo is gone.

Here's the deal, the flat design is pretty cool, but not all the way. I would like to see something actually moving when I'm sliding to power off the device. However, everything else is pretty good for me. What about you?

Play against your friends with Fun Run

We don't see many games that allow you to play between iOS and Android devices. However this one does. Fun Run is a great multiplayer racing game. It is incredibly addictive. Get it from the App Store or the Play Store for free.

When you first download the game, it will ask you to register. By the time you finish, you will be able to play the game online. You can either play randomly with other users, or you can add friends and play with them. In other words, no Game Center needed.

The game's idea is pretty simple, you control a running animal by jumping and using weapons you collect on the way. It looks a lot like Crash on the Playstation. Anyway, it is a great game that you should defiantly check out.

How to find your lost Android phone. (Silent)

Over the years I've lost my phone a lot of times, but the worst case is losing your phone when it's on silent. So here's a way to find your phone even if it was on silent or even stolen!

Here's what you'll need to do, download an application from the Play Store. It's called "Where's my Droid" and you can get it for FREE!

After you install the app, you're going to set it up. Basically, the app allows you to send text messages with different keywords to help you locate your phone. Simply type the message you want and you're done.

This app helps you in different ways, first you can make it ring even if it was on silent, simply text your phone with the keyword that you chose and your phone will ring loudly. But what if it was stolen? Text your self with the GPS keyword and you will receive a Google maps link that will locate your phone.

There are also some in-depth advanced settings that might help you but the default is fine for me.

Interesting -FREE- Apps of the week #2

Cordy 2 (FREE) This is a game that I like because it reminds me of Sonic. You play this robot that goes left and right and jumps till you finish all the levels. You will see a few things to kill on your way but that's not a big deal. One downside about this game is that it makes me dizzy for some reason!
Glow Hockey 2 FREE This is my favorite multiplayer game at the moment. It has great graphics and a great gaming experience. The one-player mode has 4 different difficulties, 3 extremely easy ones, and 1 extremely hard one. That's the only negative point for me.
Can Knockdown (FREE) I love this game physically as well as on a device. It is a very addictive game. I like the challenges on this game with my Game Center friends. It's just fun.
OPlayer Lite (FREE) VLC was my favorite media player on my device. However, it's not in the App Store anymore so I wanted to pick an alternative. And here comes OPlayer. It is a great media player that supports a lot of extensions. It even has a browser to download files directly from the application.
Unblock Me FREE A great puzzle game that wants you to move blocks to get one of them out of the picture. What makes this game good for me is that it has a ton of levels. I'm currently on the 70th level and counting and it's all free!

Welcome to the first episode of Interesting Apps of the Week. I will try to put my personal favorite apps of every week in this series. So lets start. NOTE: Click on the application's name to download.

WolframAlpha ($2.99). You might need a great calculator that does everything for you. WolframAlpha is probably the best calculator you will ever find. It covers a lot of the mathematics fields such as calculus, Algebra, and many more. However, that's not all, it also covers other fields of science. It is basically your study reference.

Head Soccer (FREE) This game is an addictive game that makes football much more fun. You control those mini footballers and play football with no rules. Isn't that the dream? There are a lot characters and countries that you can play with and 4 different modes, Survival, Tournament, Arcade, or Multiplayer. By the way, I personally prefer Head Soccer to Fifa 13.

Fit Brains Trainer (FREE) This is an application controlled by DR. Paul Nussbaum, a specialist in brain health across the lifespan. It gives you daily training sessions for your brain. Each session includes different simple puzzles that you should solve during the time limit. It should help you have a healthier brain, not to mention that it is really fun.

Appsfire (FREE) A great application that organizes most applications for users. It shows great deals and app-discounts to help you enjoy the best of the App Store without going broke.

Dead Trigger (FREE) Zombie games are my favorite type of games. But they are not so good when it comes to mobile devices. However, it's not the same with Dead Trigger. The graphics are good, the story is good, and the controls are not so bad. To sum up, it is one of the best zombie-games on the App Store

New iOS Lock Screen Concept

Lock Screen Drawer is a new iOS lock screen concept that allows users to access toggles on their lock screen. It is a very useful thought that Apple could make it real with iOS 7, since a lot of people want to access their settings easily. Upgrading to iOS 6 Increased 0.17% After Releasing Google Maps

Earlier this week, Google finally released their maps application on the App Store. People thought that after releasing Google Maps, iOS 6 adoption will increase heavily due to the big fail of Apple Maps. However, Chitika proved those people wrong by showing statistics titled: "Google Maps for iOS Impact on iOS 6 Adoption".

The statistics show that iOS 6 adoption following Google Maps' release has only increased 0.17%. This proves that users who haven't upgraded to iOS 6 did not want to stay on the older firmware because of Google Maps.

Personally, I think that people do not want to upgrade to iOS 6 because of jailbreaking. Upgrading to iOS 6 will coast people the benefits of jailbreaking. So, I think once an untethered jailbreak comes to iOS 6, a huge increase in iOS 6 adoption will happen.

Inside The iPad's App of The Year: Paper by FiftyThree

Apple's list of the top apps of 2012 was released earlier this week showing 'Paper' as the iPad's" app of the year". So here's a look inside the application.

First of all, the application is free in the App store, but it includes some in-app purchases. It takes about 48 MB of your storage for installation.

Paper is basically just like a notebook that you keep your notes in. It is an application that allows you to keep your notes in your paper-styled device. Which means that you doesn't type things, you write them with your own hand-writing. Which also means that it works better if you use a stylus.

When you first open up the application it shows you the different books you have. You can add as much books as you want, and you can adjust them however you like. You can choose a name for each book, and you get to choose the cover of your books either from your photos, or from the pre-installed covers.

When you open up a book, it gives you the animation of opening a real book. Then you have some pages to flip. Tap on any page you want to start drawing.

You will find different tools to draw with on the bottom of the page. On the bottom left, you'll find the eraser, Next to it, you have the brush, and on the bottom right of the page you have your colors. In between you can purchase different colors and brushes.

You can do a lot with this application. You can write your notes, you can draw your idea, or you can use it like a "Paint" app.

Personally, I think that the app is amazing. It feels great when you draw your ideas. The multitasking gestures work really fast. It just makes me want to write notes.

The brush you use has different levels of thickness from the beginning of the line to the end of it, which is one of the things that made me love this application. It feels just like a real marker that you can type with on a whiteboard.

However, the only downside of "Paper" is the lack of colors. But you can solve this problem by purchasing the color mixer which coasts $1.99

Earlier this week, Apple announced that it received 2 million iPhone 5 pre-orders in the first 24 hours. That is a very impressive number that made us think, how did they get this number? This is my answer to this question. (This article is based on my personal thoughts and opinions, NOT a scientific one)

#5: Having Everything Updated
All the previous generation iPhones came with a killer feature that forced everyone to buy the iPhone, except for the iPhone 5 which had no killer feature, but had everything updated. It had a new look, better processor, better browsing experience, new dock, new "Earpods" and more

#4: iOS
There are a lot of Android phones that have better hardware than the iPhone, but the main reason that made people stick to their iPhones is the software. iOS is an awesome mobile operating system that has amazed the world since it first came out in 2007.

#3: 4G
Years after other phones, the iPhone finally had 4G LTE connectivity, which made the previous generations users update to the iPhone 5.

#2: New Look
The iPhone 5 finally came out with a new awesome look, with 4" display, and the thinner design. Having a new look in the iPhone was something people have been looking up to.

#1: Apple Fanboys
The Apple fanboys loyalty was a huge reason for the iPhone's success. Without them, Apple wouldn't reach 2M with this phone.
