Many people, including myself, have days where it seems that we are not sure what our God given purpose is here on this earth. No matter the challenges we face or the obstacles we have to overcome, just know His light will show the way as long as our trust and hope is placed in Him.

17 Months

For those of you who have been around since the beginnings of my humble blog, you may remember that back in September of 2011 I had made the decision to quit smoking. I am pleased to announce that today marks my 17th month of being smoke-free!

When I tell others how long it has been since I quit smoking I get asked two questions. The first is always how did you do it and that is always followed by was it tough the first couple of days. To both of those questions I answer with prayer and putting it in the hands of God.

Prior to this quit I tried many times to quit and I failed...miserably. I didn't know why. I always assumed that I wasn't ready to quit or that I needed to do it in my own time. After looking back on these past 17 months I have seen (actually since day one of this quit) that that was the problem, I was relying on myself to quit. Once I took it to God in prayer and completely submitted myself Him, the quit was nothing but smooth sailing as opposed to troubled waters.

So here it is 17 months later and still smoke-free and feeling great! To say that I am blessed would be an understatement. Throughout this journey God has made it clear to me just how great He truly is and has never once broke his promise to me. God has not left my side throughout this journey and has walked every step of the way with me through His son Jesus Christ.

Truly our God is great and there is no other. When I look around at His creation and all of the blessings that He has given to me so far, even at age 33 I am still in amazement of how great our God truly is.

I had the opportunity to see Jonah at the Sight & Sound theater in Lancaster, PA last Friday and I must say it was a wonderful recreation of the story of the prophet Jonah. The song "I'm Free" is a such a powerful song. I thought I would share it with you all.

Here we are at the beginning of new year. For many people the new year marks a time of change and a time of resolutions. It is a chance to start fresh, put the past behind you and start anew. While this sounds all well and good, most of the changes and resolutions people vow to make will only last for a few weeks and then back to the old way of things. The question that I have is does it have to be that way? I would have to say that no it does not. The bible verse that I had quoted at the beginning of this entry sums it up. I think that in this new year if we remain in Christ we can carry out all of the changes and resolutions that have been made so long as we do it in Him...

Embarrassing

So last night my neighbor's wife knocked on my door and gave me a dish of short ribs. Now I wasn't exactly sure as to why she gave them to me, as I have really only met her once, but I just assumed that her husband made them and was sharing them.

So this morning I figured that they would probably go real nicely with my typical ramen noodle lunch so I took them to work with me. Let me just tell you this, they were delicious! They filled me right up so I didn't even need dinner before my church board meeting.

So I get back from the meeting this evening and I noticed that my wife's car wasn't there but there was someone parked in our spot so I come in and she tells me that she moved her car so I would have a spot. She also started to laugh at me and informed me that the ribs were not meant for me but my other neighbor! He paid for them and all and they ended up in my belly. I feel bad, but my neighbors found it funny and it is all good, just looks like the ribs are on me next time! How embarrassing!

Apologies for the abscence

It really has been a little bit since my last substantial post on here. Now it is funny because quite a few of the blogs that I have read on blogging suggest that you do not apologize for not updating frequently and just blog! Okay, I get that. I suppose that if you have followers who enjoy your blog they would probably prefer you blog about something of substance rather then wasting the five minutes reading an apology. Then you have someone like me. I have a whopping one follower (who I am grateful for) and it seems that I am making, barely, a post a month apologizing for not posting more. It seems a bit strange doesn't it?

Well maybe that is just the thing. Maybe I am lacking followers because...well...my blog is lacking. I may have a few return readers, but they do not decide to follow me because there is no real consistency around here. Now I do not want to misconstrue my intentions here, I am not doing this to see how many followers I can get or how popular this blog can become, although I would be lying if I didn't think it would be cool to obtain that, butnI want this to be more of a positive and inspirational blog. I would like to know one day that I helped someone through this blog. My intentions are not to be boastful about it but to just share the light of Christ and pass it on to someone else. After all is that what I should be doing as a Christian?

I pray that one day that will happen, but I also pray for the words to put here before you all. I am far from perfect and a saint most definitely I ain't, but hopefully the words start to come and the pages of this blog become filled and I know that when it does all praise and glory go to Him who makes it possible!

About a month or so ago while I was in the car with my family we were listening to Word FM which we often do when we are in the car together. The evening show was on and while I do not recall what the topic of discussion was but what the one DJ had said really hit home with me and opened my eyes even further than I they have already been opened. I really wish I remembered which DJ it was because I would have left a nice message for them on their Facebook page. Anyway what she had said was that Jesus does not want you to be fake with Him, He wants you to be real and true with Him. Now it might not seem like that statement in and of itself is all that mind blowing and profound but it was the context in which she used it. The point that she was making is that we all are human and we all fall short of the glory of the Cross. Jesus does not want us to be untrue to ourselves or Him.

We were all made to have different ideas, interests, and opinions. We should not try to change or lives as to please others and conform to what they believe to be the "ideal" way of life. We should instead understand that the one common bond we all share and the symbol of our Christian faith is the Cross. Again we all fall short of the glory of the cross and we all have our imperfections and differences, but Jesus died on that cross so that we ALL may be saved and our imperfections made perfect.

Springing forward!

Spring is right around the corner and tonight/tomorrow morning for those who live in the areas where there is daylight savings, we take that first step. While it is true that we will lose an hour of sleep, it is a fair trade off for the longer days!

Spring is one of my favorite seasons because everything begins to come alive again. Trees and flowers start to bloom, it gets warmer, stays lighter longer, what more could you ask for? I know that this winter wasn't too bad, but it was still winter. I do enjoy all of the seasons, and I am thankful for each one, but I would still prefer to live somewhere where it is 75-80 degrees all year-round.

Okay okay so I am a month late to the party but it is still the new year! I thank God for blessing my family with another year and the opportunity to grow closer to His Word. I may not be perfect, heck I am a sinner, but I rejoice and take comfort in the sacrifice that God gave in His son Jesus Christ so that I may be released from the bondage of my sin. This year is my year to be thankful. I want to forget the things that I do not have and all of the trivial things, and just stay focused on all of the things that He has blessed me with. It is in His name ALWAYS!

I would definitely like to see my blog take off. It almost seems that every blog regarding faith and Christianity are written by women and seemed to be geared, for the most part, towards women. I do not have a problem with them, and I do enjoy reading them, but where are the men? I know that there are probably plenty of blogs out there on faith that are written from a man's perspective for men, I just haven't found them.

I have been doing a lot of reading this weekend on how to make my blog better and maybe even get some followers. Thank you to Rebecca of the blog We Are Large, People and her post for Blogger Buzz, Tips for New Bloggers. This posting was packed with helpful tips, ideas, and references to other blogs whose posts on the topic were equally interesting and insightful. As with most things this will be a slow transition with much trial and error. One of the first changes that I have put into place is creating a Google+ (G+) page for The Lighted Path. The Google+ page was just started today so there is not much content there as of yet, but it will act as a supplemental paged to this with additional content (pics, audio, video, etc.). Good morning everyone and Happy Thanksgiving! I told you last night that I was not making any promises about an additional post or even a YouTube video for that matter. I did hook up and install the software for my good web cam, but that is a far as I got.

Thanksgiving eve service was a very refreshing and renewing service. The scripture lesson for the evening was 2 Kings 5. This is the story of Naaman's healing of leprosy. The way that the preacher delivered his sermon was two-fold. First he spoke on how Naaman almost missed out on this blessing and healing from God because he did not think that what he was instructed to do was fitting for a man of his stature but reluctantly he did what was instructed and was healed. Next he spoke on the prophet Elisha's servant Gehazi who was not content with what he had and had been witness to and tried to get the gift that was offered to Elisha by Naaman and because Gehazi wanted "a little bit more," he was stricken with leprosy.

For me it was just another sign this week from the Lord that no matter what is going on in my life, that I am not alone and that myself and my family will be taken care. At this point, it is no secret that we are not in the greatest of financial situations, but in all of it we should be thankful for all that we do have and have been given. For the greatest gift that we have been given is the gift of forgiveness through the blood of Jesus, and the hope of eternal life. While I myself may not be perfect, and I am certainly no angel, the gift of forgiveness is something that I will always be thankful and grateful for. I am also very thankful for the family and the life that He has given me, I have truly been blessed.

So while you are enjoying the food and fellowship with your friends and family, playing games, watching the football games, whatever it is that you will be doing today stop and remember Him through all this is possible. God Bless and have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Mission Complete!

Back in August I set out to read through the Bible from Genesis through Revelation. In my Bible there was a reading plan that would take you through the Bible in 90 days. Well ladies and gentlemen, today was day number 90 and the mission is complete!

I have grown so much in these past 90 days, that sometimes it is hard for me to even believe. I feel that my relationship with God and Jesus has deepend significantly. Over the course of these 90 days a lot of things have gone on in my life, both good and bad, but I have never felt alone. One of the most awesome things to happen is that I have quit smoking...FINALLY! It has been just under three months since my last cigarette and I only used the patch for two weeks. I can safely say that it was through Jesus where my stength came and is still coming.

I hate to cut this short, but the dishes must get done before we head out to church for the Thanksgiving Eve service. I may be back later to post some more, or maybe do a YouTube video, but I make no promises! Take care and God Bless!

Good morning everyone, and how is everyone doing on this fine Sunday morning? It has been over a month since my last posting and I gotta tell you, I have missed it. I was on a roll there with posting consistently but that roll came to a crashing halt. I am back now and hopefully more consistently again. I just wanted to put up this quick update post to let everyone know that I a well. I just ask for continued prayers for myself and my family because we are definitely going through some difficult times at the moment. 40 Days

Good morning everyone. Just wanted to make a quick post to say hello and to also say thanks and praise the Lord that today is forty days since I have had a cigarette! I have said it again and again and again, I could not have done this without God's help and guidance. Constant prayer and reliance on the Lord have made this, by far, the best quit that I have had. I am not trying to be cocky about it, but I feel that I do have the right to be happy about it.

Time to go get ready for church and enjoy what is looking to be another beautiful day given to us by God. Not that everyday He has given us isn't beautiful, I just like the sun...and the Son as well ;-)! Take care everyone, may your day be filled with many blessings...GOD BLESS!

...well not completely new. There is another "The Lighted Path" and I have this one hosted on tumblr. For the most part, the two blogs will be and contain the same things. I know that you may be thinking that I have a hard enough time keeping up on one, now I have another one to throw in the mix (actually this is the third), but that is the beauty of ctrl+c / ctrl+v!

You may be asking yourself why have the same thing in two places, well that answer is simple. If you look to the right and see the lack of followers (if you are reading, follow why don't ya:)) I am hoping that maybe I can get some followers here. I have had alright success with my other tumblr blog so I hope that these two will compliment each other well.
