I’m spending my Saturday afternoon in the car for a 3 hour road trip with my grandma and my mom. As we truck our way to the Central Valley to a little town called Hanford, where my grandmother was born and raised, I barely came to realized that I have never been on a trip like this with the two different generations of women in my family. All of three of us are completely different people. We each have different morals and sets of principles that we live our lives by. My grandmother Molly is a sprite 74 year old traditional Mexican-American woman who believes that as long as your strong willed and have faith, life’s ups and downs will not seem as rough. My mother Susan is practically the spitting image of my grandma from her hair, to the similar way that both their mouths curve when they smile. Myself on the other hand, I’m just a little bit different. I’m much taller than them and also much fairer skinned. The thing that we do all have in common is that we each have small hands and fingers.
I was raised by both my grandma and my mother. My mom worked full time so I was with my grandma before school and after. I was raised to have the most absolute respect for my elders and to always try and do the right thing. I am almost 21 years old and I still abide by the same rules that my grandma gave me when I was 5 years old.
The purpose for this road trip is to go to the town where my grandma and grandpa both grew up to attend services in remembrance of my grandfather who past away this past September. My grandma has never been alone, she was married to my grandfather for almost 60 years. He is a big apart of who she is and who she has become over the years. He is a big part of her heart. My grandma is still in mourning over my grandfather and will be for sometime. By taking this trip, it reflects a big transformation in her life. She entered 2007 with a loving husband of 60 years and she ends it with her new found self. No one ever knew that your life could absolutely be turned upside down when you were 74 years old, but it can.
From this road trip and from these past couple of months, I have learned a lot from my first generation. My mother has also been a big influence in the woman I am today and who I will become later down the road. She has worked hard all her life just like my grandmother. Starting both as farm workers, my mother later got a job at hospital as a monitor tech. She set out to make More for herself, and I'm pretty sure that's where my drive and perseverance to finish school and succeed comes from.

This road trip wasn't as bad as I could imagined it being. It may sound cheesy, but spending this time with these two women, it kind of helped reinforce the direction and dreams I have planned for myself. Both of them have made different choices in their lives and those choices have molded them into the women they are today; But there is this one thing that both of them have in common; they followed their hearts. And that's what I plan to do with myself.

Gime more....Britney Spears?

Britney Spears decided to debut her "come back" album two weeks before its original release date. Hmm.... I wonder if she thinks it will help salvage some of her career at all? Personally, I'll be honest and I am somewhat of a Britney fan. I don't know why; maybe because she can't cease to amaze me with all of these absurd things she gets tangled up into. She's like a car wreck on the side of the street, when you pass by you cant help BUT look.
I haven't bought her new cd yet. And I haven't quite decided if I will. She kind of disappointed me at the VMAS. I was waiting for this spectacular risque preformance, but all viewers got were a post-pregnancy Britney who should of probably covered herself up a bit more and maybe just maybe practiced her dance moves a few more million times in the mirror.
Black Out is the title of her cd that hit stores this past week. It's barely been out for five days or so and she is already stirring up controversary with the Catholic church. Well I guess she wouldn't be Britney Spears if she wasn't making headlines...good or bad; but mostly bad.

.... After this cd slows down, I guess were going to have to wait in anticpation for Britney to amaze us once more; maybe even in a good way. Shoot, she might grace the cover of US Weekly wearing a pair of panties.

--We could only hope!

GOOD LUCK Ms. Spears!

Halloween is coming...

Halloween is right around the corner...and one of the things that I enjoy most about this major holiday... are the Halloween movies that bombard everyone's TV sets during the month of October. The clip above is from one of my favorite Halloween comedy's, "Monster Squad." It's about a group of pre-teen boys who find out that Dracula is still alive and that he is trying to bring back all of the horror film monsters.
