Girls Golf: Those girls who attended the golf meeting last week need to come to Rm. 324 after school on Tuesday Feb. 9 for a quick meeting. We will be discussing practice in February.

Global Hearts United: Come join us for Hits for Haiti, a volleyball tournament to raise money for the crisis in Haiti. The tournament takes place on Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 5:30 p.m. in the Main Gym. Team registration packets are available in the Main Office and in Rm. 202. Tickets are $2.00 or $3.00 for a chance to win a pair of Mammoth tickets or other door prizes. All proceeds will go to the Haitian relief effort.

Habitat for Humanity: Looking for a way to make a difference in the New Year? Habitat for Humanity is interested anyone who has a passion for change. We help create homes for those who are in need and would love to have you join us. Feel free to check it out—we meet on Mondays in Rm. 207, or see Ms. Hall for more details.

National Honor Society Members: Our monthly meeting is on Wednesday, Feb. 10, at 2:30 in the Theater. Both juniors and seniors should plan to attend. Athletes make arrangements with your coaches. The University of Colorado, Denver will have a representative visiting Heritage next Wednesday, 2/10, at 10:20 in the Post Grad Center. Any juniors and seniors interested in hearing more about attending C.U., Denver are encouraged to attend this meeting. Please sign up in Post Grad so you will be excused from class.

Film Club: There will be no meeting of the Classic Film Critics Society this Thursday, Feb. 4. We will resume, as usual, the following Thursday.

F.C.S.: As this Wednesday Feb. 3 is a Late Start Day, the Fellowship of Christian Students will meet at 8:40 a.m. in the 2nd Floor Lecture Hall, instead of the usual early hour. There will also be a Leadership Meeting that day at 2:30 p.m. in Rm. 216. All are welcome at both these events.

Reminder: Post Grad is holding interviews with juniors now. Expect a phone call home as a reminder when your student is scheduled for their appointment. They will receive their Naviance/Family Connection account number and begin building a personal resume in their Naviance portfolio at this first meeting. This appointment is always scheduled during a non-scheduled hour in their day so it does not conflict with classroom time. Your student will use their Naviance portfolio as a personal resource all through their high school years and may continue to use the resume they build even after high school. Please encourage your student to keep this appointment. A successfully opened Naviance account will streamline college applications and letters of recommendation requests when the time comes for your student to begin their college search. We need new pictures for the home page of the HHS website! We would love to update the rotating photos on the home page of the HHS website but need some photos from this school year to do so. If students or parents have some awesome horizontal shots that they think would look good as part of this display, they should copy them onto a CD and take them to the main office for Heidi Dudley in the Office of Technology. We are looking for a nice variety of shots from sports, activities, academics, student life, etc., so if you have great horizontal shots that would fit the bill, please drop them by the main office.

Seniors and Parents of Seniors:
The “Naviance/Family Connection” program we use here at Heritage to track our students college choices is a fantastic tool when it comes to sending out college applications and securing Letters of Recommendation from teachers. All students are encouraged to get and maintain an active Naviance/Family Connection account while here at Heritage. The account names and passwords are given to students during their first Post Grad meeting held in their junior year and they are responsible for keeping this information readily available. As Heritage begins the change over to electronic transcripts there are a few points that must be kept in mind for the college application process to go smoothly for our students. Transcripts cannot be sent until:
1. The Privacy for Common Application waiver is signed. This can be found on the student’s Naviance account page.
2. The Transcript Request form must be filled out and turned into the Counseling office along with a $5.00 fee for each request. This is the orange paper form located in Post Grad.
3. Letters of Recommendation may be documented through the student’s Naviance account but must be requested first, in person.
4. Do not rely on Naviance email for transcript request or teacher letter requests.
Please make note of these few stipulations so the student’s college application process goes as smoothly as possible

Mid-year transcripts will be available after Jan. 22. If you have applied to Common Application schools your mid-year report will automatically be sent to those schools. Please turn any other mid-year requests into the counseling office. These mid-year requests will be sent out at the end of this month.

FAFSA: Now is the time to apply for the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). We encourage everyone to fill out this form whether you think you qualify for financial aid or not. The deadline for Priority financial aid is March 1, 2010, although you may submit the FAFSA any time after Jan 1, 2010. Visit the website at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ Parents and students must EACH request a PIN number. Once your individual Pin # is sent to you (within a few days), you may begin to fill in the FAFSA required information. You will need to have 2009 tax return information already completed in order to begin this process. Once your finances are evaluated the FAFSA will establish an EFC (Estimated Family Contribution) for your family and forward that number to any colleges to which your student has applied. Each college will offer a financial aid package based on this EFC if they determine that there is need. This is not always set only on income but also on any family expenses or deductions that reduce your income. You or your student may qualify for aid even if you think you won’t. It’s always worth filling out this form to be sure not to miss an opportunity to be offered financial aid for college. Be sure you are on the correct website – you should never be asked to pay a fee to submit the FAFSA.

Alpine Club: All students are welcome to the presentation of the movie “Touching the Void” in the 3rd Floor Lecture Hall on Thursday, Jan.14 at 2:30 p.m. You will need a parent consent form which can be picked up from Sherpa Warren in the Math Department. Our next adventure is skating at Evergreen Lake on Sunday, January 17. Admission is $4.75 + $7 if you need to rent skates. Get your parent-vehicle permission form in by this Friday.

Scholarship Notification: Attention seniors who have received any scholarships: Even if you do not plan on attending the college or university offering the scholarship, please bring a copy of the letter of verification to Ms. Ollada in the counseling office. The school district tracks all offers of scholarship money and it also allows us to recognize you at the Senior Awards Program if you’ve received a scholarship to the college you will ultimately be attending. We also announce any special outside scholarships you’ve been awarded (Littleton Elks Club; AT&T Foundation, etc.).

College Financial Aid: The Financial Aid Office at the University of Northern Colorado will be providing free assistance in applying for financial aid and scholarships for students and their parents at Peak Community and Wellness Center, 6612 S. Ward Street, Jan. 19 at 6:30-8:30 p.m. It is recommended that you bring your 2010-2011 FAFSA worksheet (as complete as possible), which can be accessed at www.fafsa.ed.gov, your 2009 Federal tax returns or W-2 forms. Is Your User Folder Saying It is Full?? If you are getting an error message telling you that your user folder is full, it is time for you to do some folder maintenance. Since you only have 50MB of space on the server, it doesn’t take long to fill it up if you save large files. Usually what eats up space is pictures and music, so please look through your user folder and clear out anything that you no longer need, especially photos and/or music files. You may need to go in several levels to find these large files, opening up folders within folders within folders. You might also consider clearing out files from previous years since it is very unlikely that you will need these files. If you do, please save them to a flash drive in order to clear up space in your user folder. If you have any questions about this, please come to the main office and ask for Mrs. Dudley.

Winter Pep Assembly: Do you want to participate in the Winter Pep Assembly Winter Olympics on Friday, Jan. 15? We are looking for 12 students per class to compete in the Battle of the Classes. There are two options: The Obstacle Course needs 2 boys and 2 girls and the Relay Race needs 4 boys and 4 girls. Liability Forms are available in the Main Office and are due Ms. Brethauer Monday, Jan. 11.

Coaches, Sponsors, Teachers: We need your pictures! Student Government is trying to include as many groups as possible in the Power Point during the Winter Pep Assembly on January 15. Please submit your pictures on a CD with your name and group to Kristi Brethauer. All pictures must be in no later than Friday, Jan. 8; no CDs will be returned. 2nd Semester Schedules Available: Students can view and print their 2nd semester schedules on Infinite Campus beginning Friday, Dec. 4. Students should examine their schedules and notify their counselors in writing about any errors by submitting a schedule correction form by Friday, Dec. 11. Correction forms are available online and in the Counseling Office. Examples of schedule errors include: 2 classes that have been scheduled in the same period, no lunch period, or questionable level placement.

P.E. Locks: All students currently in a Physical Education class are reminded to turn in their lock on Thursday, Dec.10 or Friday, Dec.11. Locks must be turned in or a $10.00 fine will be assessed. Locks may NOT be kept for second semester classes. If you have questions, ask your physical education teacher.

Alpine Club: The Winter Hiking Schedule is now available from Mr. Warren and on the Alpine Club website. All Alpine Club members must attend the pre-winter hike meeting on Thursday, Dec.10 after school in Room 314. The Alpine Club’s next hike is Saturday, Dec.12 to Sugarloaf Peak.

Amnesty International: We will be hosting our annual global write-a-thon on Wednesday, Dec. 9 in Rm. 118. Please join us to write holiday cards to prisoners of conscience around the world.

Powder Puff Football: Attention all girls! Compete for your class, as we battle it out under the lights at Littleton Public School Stadium during Homecoming week. All forms are due on Friday Oct. 2 at 2:00 p.m. Only 24 girls from each class will be allowed to play, so get your paperwork filled out. Cost is $15 which includes a t-shirt.

Habitat for Humanity: Are you still thinking about joining a new club? Come check out our high energy group and get to know some of our school’s leaders and genuinely big-hearted kids. This nationally-recognized club creates opportunities for kids to raise money and build homes for families in need. We believe high school students want to see a better world. The time commitment is moderate and colleges love it. We meet every Monday after school in the student resource area. See Ms. Hall with questions or just stop on by.

Key Club: The Denver Race for the Cure will take place on Sunday, October 4 at the Pepsi Center. Team Heritage is looking for student and staff team members. M.A.D. Week: It is time to start thinking about this year’s MAD Week. We are allowing the student body to decide what the week’s theme will be. P.A.C: The HHS Political Action Committee will meet Monday, Sep. 21 in the Language Arts Lecture Room during Advisory. We are beginning the facilitator training for the 2009-2010 RSVP Process. Summit 1 is scheduled for October 19. RSVP is a process of learning what issues about HHS and LPS that students want to work to change current policies. We need more students interested in learning how to facilitate a meeting of the student body through Advisory classes.

If you do not move your car by that time, you will be blocked in until 7:00 p.m. Thanks for your help in regard to this large and exciting race.
