Barak Obama's post-debate comments about John McCain. (Reportered in the LA Times)
At (a) Greensboro rally, Obama said: "The truth is, through 90 minutes of debate, John McCain had a lot to say about me. But he had nothing to say about you."Didn't even say the words 'middle class.' Didn't say the words 'working people.' You see, I think Sen. McCain just doesn't get it. He doesn't get this crisis on Wall Street. He doesn't get the fact that it hit Main Street long ago."
Obama said that for two weeks, McCain had been "shifting solutions . . . looking for a photo op and trying to figure out what to say and what to do" about the nation's financial woes. "Well, North Carolina, I know what we need to do," Obama said.
"We need to stop giving tax cuts to corporations and CEOs on Wall Street and start standing up for families on Main Street."
Obama also chided the Arizona senator for reusing a familiar line in the debate. In condemning federal pork-barrel projects, McCain had cited a study on grizzly bear DNA.
"He railed against some study on bears in Montana," Obama said. "That's an old line he's been using since the beginning of this campaign. But he had nothing to say about the fact that more and more Americans can't afford to pay for their college education; can't afford healthcare for their families; can't afford a retirement that is dignified and secure."

Sarah Palin (Tina Fey) on SNL Again

Maybe Tina Fey can rescue SNL once again. Fey is expected to return tonight as Palin on 'Saturday Night Live', according to TMZ.com
Sources tell TMZ Emmy darling Tina Fey will reprise her role as Sarah Palin on tomorrow night's episode of "Saturday Night Live." Anna Faris is the host, Duffy (who?) is the musical guest. We're also told Chris Parnell ('memba him?!) will play the roll of Jim Lehrer, who is moderating tonight's McCain/Obama debate.

This will be a good thing. Fey was the fantastic hit on the season opener of SNL two weeks ago. Last week, the show got off track with some mediocre political skits. I'll be glad to see her back.
That said, there is this scuttle... the Fey didn't really want to do the Palin skit. Here's a bit of the story posted on MSNBC from 'Access Hollywood'.
On the Emmy red carpet, Fey revealed to Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush she actually refused to play her political look-a-like when it was first proposed.
“I was fighting them all week on it,” Fey said. “I kept saying, ‘I don’t want to do it, I’m not an impressionist.’ I kept telling (‘SNL’ producer) Lorne (Michaels), ‘No! I’ll show up ... I’ll do anything except play her. I can’t do it.’ Then, I was worn down. Lorne wore me down by the end of the week.”

The presidential debate between John McCain and Barack Obama was just a a few degrees better than watching paint drive. Niether hit a home run. Both seem control. Obama seemed more clearly focused on his rehearsal answers. McCain was just plan. I watched on CNN HD and enjoyed the voters reaction live along wtih the rankings from the CNN experts.

Dana Milbanks at the Washington Post hit the target: "Lukewarm"
And both were so mild that moderator Jim Lehrer didn't know what to do. "Talk to each other," he urged. "Say it directly to him," he pleaded. "Do you have something directly to say, Senator Obama, to Senator McCain about what he just said? . . . Respond directly to him about that, to Senator Obama about that. He's made it twice now."

You just have to wonder... are Americans so interested in the presidential race because of the economy or the war?

John and Cindy McCain helped "The View' to some of it's best ratings.... EVER. This from TV Week.
John and Cindy McCain’s appearance on “The View” on Sept. 15 was the talk show’s fourth most watched telecast ever with 4.62 million total viewers.
The appearance helped the show deliver its highest-rated week in a year and a half among total viewers and the seventh best week of its 12-year run with 3.95 million viewers.
“The View” placed in the top three daytime programs for women 18-49 for the second straight week with a 1.3 rating. The show also attracted a 0.9 rating for women 18-34, placing it in the top three for the demographic.

Palin, Clinton On Saturday Night LIVE

I try to limit my posts after the conventions to Barack Obama and John McCain... but last night's Saturday Night LIVE with Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton characters was great. Here it is. You can also find a clean version at nbc.com.

By the way... here are the ratings for the show... courtesy TV Week.
“Saturday Night Live’s” 34th season premiere featuring Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps and Lil Wayne, plus cameo appearances from “30 Rock’s” Tina Fey and William Shatner, hit a ratings high not seen since 2001.
The show drew a 7.4 rating/18 share in overnight metered households in 55 markets, according to preliminary Nielsen Media Research data.
That opening is the highest for "SNL" since its first episode after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, which aired on Sept. 29 and was hosted by actress Reese Witherspoon.Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama had planned to make an appearance on last night's show as well. However, he canceled because of Hurricane Ike. "In light of the unfolding crisis in Texas, Sen. Obama has decided it is no longer appropriate to appear on 'Saturday Night Live,'" Obama spokeswoman Jen Psaki said in a statement.
Compared with last year’s season-opening “SNL,” this year is up 64% in Nielsen metered markets.

Mollygood has some scoope on John McCain and that ugly ad that compares Barack Obama to the celebrity of Paris Hitlon. Apparently.... daddy Hilton is a big contributor to the McCain campaign.
Just one day after releasing an attack ad that equates Barack Obama with Paris Hilton and Britney Spears – thus calling the Democratic nominee a vapid celebrity – John McCain has been apprised of the news that Rick Hilton, Paris’ father, is a big donor to his campaign. Rick gave $4,600 to McCain last March, presumably not expecting that his money would be used to shit all over his own daughter months later. Yay, politics!
I hate to give my opinion on this one.. but geez. Haven't political campaigns learned to check these things? Perhaps the McCain camp should have at least alerted the Hilton's that the ad was coming.

Jesse Jackson was caught saying things about Barack Obama he wished no one heard....

Now, Jackson is apologizing well ahead of the tapes....

Here is how Jackson described what happened.... (from CNN this afternoon).
I was in a conversation with a fellow guest at Fox on Sunday. He asked about Barack's
speeches lately at the black churches. I said it can come off as speaking down to black people.
The moral message must be a much broader message. What we need really is racial justice and
urban policy and jobs and healthcare. There is a range of issues on the menu.
And frankly, I think that is his basic urban policy position. No one else has put one together
except him in the situation.
And then I said something I felt regret for -- it was crude. It was very private, and very much a
sound bite -- and a live mike. And so I feel -- I find no comfort in it, I find no joy in it. So I
immediately called the senator's campaign to send my statement of apology to repair. READ THE FULL CNN TRANSCRIPT.

Here's the apology from Jackson. "For any harm or hurt that this hot mic private conversation may have caused, I apologize. My support for Senator Obama’s campaign is wide, deep and unequivocal. I cherish this redemptive and historical moment. My appeal was for the moral content of his message to not only deal with the personal and moral responsibility of black males, but to deal with the collective moral responsibility of government and the public policy which would be a corrective action for the lack of good choices that often led to their irresponsibility.... That was the context of my private conversation and it does not reflect any disparagement on my part for the historic event in which we are involved or my pride in Senator Barack Obama, who is leading it, whom I have supported by crisscrossing this nation in every level of media and audience from the beginning in absolute terms."

A spokesperosn for Obama said this on his behalf: “As someone who grew up without a father in the home, Senator Obama has spoken and written for many years about the issue of parental responsibility, including the importance of fathers participating in their children’s lives. He also discusses our responsibility as a society to provide jobs, justice, and opportunity for all. He will continue to speak out about our responsibilities to ourselves and each other, and he of course accepts Reverend Jackson’s apology.”
