Print Screen Button and Screen Shots
To capture the whole screen, just hit the Print Screen (it might say Prt Sc ) button on your keyboard.

Then, open your imaging software (and a blank page, if you need to - it will depend on your software) and select your "Paste" command (usually Ctrl+V ).

This should paste an image of your computer screen into the document you're working on. You can also paste the image into a word processing program like MS Word or WordPerfect if you don't have imaging software. (With Word 2000 and newer, you might need to have the program open before your hit Prt Sc for the screenshot to go to the clipboard).

If you would like to capture only the current window, hold down the ALT button while you press the Print Screen button.

Soon you'll be a screenshot master.

Jump To It!
Picture this: you’re working on a big document and you’re making some adjustments just on page 17, but you forgot something you needed on page one. So, what do you do? You end up scrolling all the way back up to the first page. Once you find what you needed, you have to go all the way back down to page 17. Aye, make it stop!
Here’s a quick way to solve that conundrum. Simply hold down the Shift key and press F5. The cursor will automatically jump to the exact place where the cursor was before you moved it.
Now, even better. You’re still on page 17 and you save and close the document. When you re-open it, the cursor will be at the very top of the first page. Press Shift+F5 again and you’ll immediately jump right back to where you were on page 17. How lovely is that?!

Select It All
Have you ever wanted to highlight a complete document or page all at once instead of dragging your mouse all the way from the bottom to the top of the page just so you can copy and paste it somewhere else? If it is two pages or more, it can get redundant to use your mouse for all of the text. Even then, sometimes your finger slips off the mouse and you have to start all over again.
If you're tired of all that nonsense, you can select all of the text on a page all at one time. All you have to do is select it all!
There are two ways you can do this. One is going to the Edit menu in whatever program you're working in (a Web page, MS Word, etc) and choose Select All. That will highlight the complete page of text, pictures, etc. Then you can just copy and paste the material wherever you want it. The job will be done much faster than using your mouse!
The other way to select it all is by using Ctrl + A. This keyboard shortcut will do the exact same thing. Just click once on the page you want to copy, press Ctrl and A at the same time and poof, it's done!

Drag, Drop, And Save Those Web Pics!
Ever stumble upon a really cool picture while you're surfing? You know, the kind you're just itchin' to share with anyone who'll look? Maybe it's a picture of a cute little puppy hanging off a couch, maybe it's a funny kid with pie all over his face, maybe it's your Aunt Edna in her swimsuit—OK, maybe not.
In any case, saving that digital snippet can be a bit of a pain. First, you right-click, then you have to select "Save Picture As" from the menu, and then you have to pick a folder and save it, blah, blah, blah...
All right, granted if that's the worst thing that happens to you all day you're living a pretty good life. But still...
Here's what I do when I want to just snag a picture fast—I drag & drop it to my desktop . Just left-click the picture, keep your mouse button down, then plop it onto your desktop. So easy it should be illegal. Of course, if your browser is maximized and you can't see your desktop this isn't gonna work.
However, there is a hidden danger within this tip you need to be aware of (alright, it's not really a "danger" but you know how dramatic I get sometimes). If you drag and drop a photo that's linked to a web page, you'll end up with a shortcut to that link instead of a picture on your desktop.
Just think—after you have that little photo on your desktop, you can create a new e-mail message, drag and drop the photo to it, and send it off to everyone you know. Isn't the internet great?

Firefox Wheel Tricks
If you use Firefox and you have a scroll wheel mouse, you can do some pretty neat things in your Web browser. If you have used Firefox for awhile, you probably know that you can use tabbed browsing, which means you can create a new tab and then have several Web sites open and ready to view without having so many open links filling up the bottom of your desktop area.

Well, you can use your mouse wheel to close out some of those tabs when you're done browsing in a certain one. Go ahead and click on "Open a new tab" icon and go to whichever Web site you would like to visit. Once you're done looking around, just make sure the tab you want to close is selected and just click your mouse wheel. That tab will automatically close and you can go to another site or whatever you'd like to do.

You can also use your mouse wheel with the Back and Forward buttons. Just click the middle mouse button (the wheel) and away you go.

Here's one more! Try it with the Home page icon. Just highlight the icon, click the wheel once and you're instantly taken to your homepage. You can do all of these things with just a quick click on the scroll wheel. Who knew Firefox could be so fun?

Did you know that you can customize some of your keyboard settings? Does that sound like something you would like to check out?
Well, if you do, go to Start, Control Panel and click on the Printers and Other Hardware, then Keyboard (for XP). If you have an older version of Windows, go to Start, Control Panel and look for the Hardware icon or even just one that says Keyboard.
Once you click on that, the Keyboard Properties message box will come up on your screen. Under the Character Repeat section, you can choose how long, or short, you would like before a character (a letter, etc.) repeats itself when you're holding down a key. Maybe sometimes you're typing along and a double letter somehow shows up. It may have,because you held onto that one key just a little too long. Well, if that seems to happen to you a lot, you can change the repeat delay to a longer amount of time, so you will have more time to move onto the next letter or word. Just use the arrow slider to move in either direction.
Next, you can check on the repeat rate of your keyboard. If you sometimes hold down a key for soooooooooooooooooooo long, it may take forever for that one letter to repeat itself. You can fix that by moving the arrow slider to the Fast side. Or, if you like it slower, you can move the slide to the Slow side. Once you have it where you would like it, you can test the rate to see how fast, or slow, it will go.
The last thing you can do is play with the cursor blink rate. Depending on how fast you would like your cursor to blink at you when it's standing still, you can have it blink at a fast rate, a medium rate or even no rate at all.
When you've made all your changes, just hit OK and they will take effect. Pretty cool, huh?

Increase your browsing speed by viewing only text

Most of the time you spend on the Internet, you probably welcome the addition of graphic elements, such as digital photographs. However, if your Internet connection is bogged down and your browsing speed is frustratingly sluggish, you can speed things up considerably (even if it's only temporarily) by eliminating pictures from your view. To do this in Internet Explorer 5 or later, choose Tools | Internet Options, and then click on the Advanced tab in the Internet Options dialog box. Scroll down within the Settings window until you see the Multimedia category. Then, remove the check mark from the Show Pictures check box, click Apply, and then click OK to close the dialog box.If you're using Netscape Navigator 4 or later, choose Edit | Preferences, and then click on Advanced in the Category panel. Next, remove the check mark from the Automatically Load Images option and click OK to close the dialog box.

Now when you open the next Web page, it will load much faster but without any pictures. If you want to return to a graphically rich cyberspace, simply replace the check mark for the appropriate option in the Internet Options or the Preference dialog box.

Microsoft Excel Tricks

This is a very old Microsoft Excel trick To quickly create a chart, using only your keyboard, select the data you want to plot and then press F11. Excel automatically creates the chart for you. Another way to do this trick: After you select your cells, press ALT+F1 and you'll get the same result.

Show or Hide the Formulas in an Excel Spreadsheet
When you're working in an Excel worksheet, you can alternate between viewing the values in the cells and displaying the formulas. To toggle between the different views, press CTRL+` (single left quotation mark).
If you're having trouble finding the single left quotation mark, it's on the same key as the "~" symbol. On most keyboards, it's the key directly to the left of the "1" key.

Create an Excel Chart with the Push of a Button
This is a very old Microsoft Excel trick. To quickly create a chart, using only your keyboard, select the data you want to plot and then press F11. Excel automatically creates the chart for you.
Select an Entire Range of Cells in Excel
In Excel, if you want to quickly select the entire range of cells you're working on, press CTRL+SHIFT+ ASTERISK (*).
For example, if you have a list of customers in Excel, this command will select the entire list and the column headings, but not the empty cells around the list�so you get only the cells you need.
This tip is different from the Select All command, which selects every cell in the worksheet�even the ones that you are not using.

Do Fast Calculations in Excel
Have you ever needed to know the largest value in a series of cells? You can create a formula to do that, but there is a faster way.

To view the largest value in a series of cells:

Select the cells in which you are interested, and you will see the sum of the range displayed on the status bar, which is the horizontal area below the worksheet window.
If the status bar is not displayed, click Status Bar on the View menu.
Right-click the status bar, and then click Max. Now you can see the maximum value displayed on the status bar.

You can use the same technique to find the average of, the sum of, or the minimum value in the selected range. You can also count the cells that contain numbers (by selecting Count Nums) or count the number of filled cells (by selecting Count).

END KEY

You've probably seen the End key on your keyboard, but have you ever used it? Have you strayed away from it because you don't really know what it does? Well, I'm sure you're not the only one if you have, so no worries here!

The End key can actually do different things, depending on the program you're using it with. Its main use though is to help you get from the top of a page to the bottom quickly. For example, let's say you're browsing the Internet for some FAQs on a specific topic. You find a great Web site that will help you out, but your question is answered clear at the bottom of the page. Do you sit there and scroll all the way to the bottom? Well, you shouldn't! Instead, use the End key.

Hit it once and you'll be whisked away to the bottom of any Web page, any document, any file, etc. Also, if you're working with some shorter text, the End key sometimes takes you the end of a line, which is also helpful and a much faster way of doing things.

The End key is located in the little section of keys to the left of the numberpad on your keyboard. It's right under the Home key and right in between the Delete key and the Page Down key. It can be found on any PC keyboard and on some Macintosh extended keyboards. It really is a great use of a key, so go try it out!
