1. Give Money Away

If you felt resistance when you read the first step then this is one indication of where you are blocked regarding receiving money into your life. In advance of launching his new coaching programme, Jason Dinner, an Internet marketer who was personally mentored by Internet guru Mike Filsaime, recently carried out a survey in which about 1,900 individuals took part. The results were shocking.

To be a successful internet marketer you need a list that you can market to and the bigger your list the more you can potentially earn. However, 58.1% of those surveyed said that they were not building an opt-in list. Here are the results (list size:percentage)of the list sizes for the 41.9% of those who were building an opt-in list:

~ 0 - 56.9%
~ 1-500 - 28.1%
~ 501-1000 - 4.8%
~ 1001-2500 - 3.6%
~ 2501-5000 - 1.3%
~ 5000 or more - 5.2%

So over 50% of those who were attempting to build a list still had no subscribers and of those who had a list, the majority had a relatively small list ranging from 1-500 persons.

The results to the question of how much money the average person was making online are as follows:

~ $0 - 51.7%
~ $1-$500 - 35.3%
~ $501-$1,000 - 5.3%
~ $1,001-$2,500 - 3.0%
~ $2,501-$5,000 - 0.6%
~ $5,000 or more - 4.1%

In other words, just over 50% of people online earn nothing on a monthly basis and 35.3% earn just $1-$500 which is hardly enough to retire on.

Just 4.1% of those surveyed earned in excess of $5,000 per month. Have you noticed the similarity of these statistics to the fact that just 3-4% of the world's population earn 97% of its entire wealth?

So what is preventing people from making a success online? One of the advantages of the Internet is that it is highly accessible and very affordable to get started. One of the disadvantages of the Internet is that it is highly accessible and very affordable to get started. This makes it a very competitive environment.

However, this is just part of the reason why the majority of people are failing online. The Internet is a highly technical environment and a rapidly changing and growing one. While there are certain fundamentals that will always hold true, the tactics are forever shifting. This is why successful Internet marketers are very strategic and they continually test and analyse what works and what doesn't and adapt accordingly.

The market can be very fickle as well. Just a small change on a website, for instance in changing a word or two in your headline, can produce either remarkable or very disappointing results.

Earlier I mentioned the importance of having a list but generally in order to build a list you need to have a website. Website building is a huge stumbling block for many getting started online.

I certainly wouldn't call Brian Tracy an Internet Marketer. He is more instantly recognised as one of the world's most renowned motivational speakers. In other words, much of what he does is offline. Yet he understands the importance of having a powerful online presence. He said in a recent interview that he spends about one million dollars per year on his website and has a team of five continually working on it.

Of course, few newbies can start with that type of capital and, honestly, you don't need that level of expenditure to create a successful website. However, website building and design, file transfer, copywriting are just some of the challenges that a newbie faces. It can be a daunting prospect.

You finally get your website up but we all know that it's not a case of build it and they will come. If you don't advertise your website then no one will even know it's there. It will be just another piece of virtual real estate lost in the wilderness of cyberspace.

You need traffic generation strategies but you have to be careful because the one thing that can cripple you is being accused of sending spam. This is why you not only need to build a list but it has to be an opt-in list, i.e. the people on your list have consented to receive information from you.

There is a landmark case going on right now that could forever affect the way Internet marketers do business. Val Burnett and Vincent Bryant are currently being sued for allegedly sending out unsolicited email to one person who had subscribed and confirmed to a safelist. Here's where it gets complicated.

They are not being sued by the confirmed paid member but by the domain owner of the email address used by the confirmed subscriber. The lawsuit is for $1,000 per email and a total of $80 million. Yes, marketing on the Internet can be like swimming in shark-infested waters even for experienced Internet marketers - hence the value of having a coach or mentor.

Money is Secondary When it Comes to Goal Setting

Many people set goals to do something once they have the money. This is entirely the wrong way to go about goal setting. You don't need the money for something until you decide to do it. Therefore, putting something off until you have the money means that you're highly unlikely to achieve that particular goal.

What many people fail to understand is that you don't need to know how you will get the money to do what you desire. Your job is to express your desire and start working towards achieving your goal. When you do this the Universe will recognise that you are committed to achieving your goal and will work to help bring manifest it.

In addition, when you wait until you have sufficient money for a certain endeavour you are actually cutting off sources of income that could potentially come your way. Sarah Ban Breathnach, author of "Simple Abundance" said:

"Whatever we are waiting for - peace of mind, contentment, grace, the inner awareness of simple abundance - it will surely come to us, but only when we are ready to receive it with an open and grateful heart."

While, she didn't specifically mention money know that this applies to money as well. All too often we unconsciously repel money through our thoughts and actions.

Now, I'm not saying that you should not save money for your goal. For instance, if you want to take a trip then decide this is what you want to do. Decide when you would like to take the trip and by all means start saving for it even if the amount you can put towards this goal is small. When the Universe puts the Law of Attraction to work opportunities and circumstances will come your way that you would not even have imagined possible. You just have to have faith that what you want is possible and that it can happen.

So, as well as saving what you can for your trip, otherwise prepare for it. Determine the things you will need for your trip and the steps you will need to take just before leaving. The Universe can work quite rapidly as well and you need to be ready to act when the opportunity arises. Make sure your passport is in order. If you need a visa, find out what you need to do in order to get it. Pack your suitcase. You get the picture.

Also, don't concern yourself that what you desire is not something you actually need. Life is not just about getting your needs met. How can anyone live a rich and fulfilling life that way? Both your needs and your wants are important. After getting your needs met it is the journey you take in acquiring your wants that will further develop you as a person.

I read a story recently of how a young man had a burning desire to relocate to Hawaii. He was interviewed by a company that was expanding and needed someone to be based in Hawaii. He didn't get the position. It went instead to a colleague of his who he discovered didn't want to relocate and so he contacted the company. As he suspected, his colleague had turned down the position. What's more the company was now desperate to have someone on location. He had been interviewed. He was qualified for the job and he was prepared to relocate.

"When can you start?" he was asked.

"Immediately," he replied without a moment's hesitation and the next day he was on a plane to Hawaii.

I've used a trip as an example but this relates to anything.

So remember, you don't need the money for your goal until you commit yourself to achieving your goal. So don't hold back in your goal setting. Don't wait until you have the money, the money is secondary.

Be Selfish with Your Money

During a televised seminar in promotion of her "Save Yourself" movement, personal finance expert Suze Orman made several thought-provoking observations. One of these was that she said that women were very good at giving and not so good at receiving.

She said that women were often generous to a fault - the fault being that their giving often plunged them into debt. This was reflected in one of the questions asked by one of the attendees whom I shall call Lisa. Lisa wanted to know how she could focus more on self without appearing selfish.

For many, selfishness is a negative quality. Randy Gage, author of Why You're Dumb, Sick and Broke and How to Get Smart, Healthy and Rich, has a different opinion. He believes that selfishness should be seen as a virtue and that people would be much happier if they ensured that their needs were met first and foremost.

Suze Orman defines generosity as giving to others while at the same time giving to yourself. If people were more selfish they would be happier. When your personal needs are met you can give so much more and you can give without feeling depleted or out of balance. Therefore, if your aim is to be generous but, as a consequence of your acts of generosity, you continually find yourself wanting, then it is time to start addressing your own needs.

So, going back to Lisa's question, it turned out that she had $6,800 in credit card debt and yet over $10,000 in savings. Credit card interest rates can be exorbitant. They are often many times the interest rate for the average savings account. Every month that Lisa's credit card bill remained unpaid she was sinking further and further into debt. What's more she didn't know the interest rate she was paying on her credit card or what she was earning on her savings and so she couldn't even accurately compare what she was losing to what she was gaining. Added to this Lisa's credit card debt was also adversely affecting her credit rating.

In Lisa's case paying off the credit card debt would be a good first move and an easy step to implement. Yet this solution had evaded her because she didn't consult a money expert. Poor people tend to have an aversion to discussing financial matters, preferring instead to sweep them under the carpet where they fester and develop into big money problems.

Having said this if someone is not good with money then simply clearing a debt is not enough to ensure that the same situation does not happen again. This is why debt consolidation loans are not always effective. For lasting results you have to learn how to manage your money. You have to recognise that money is your servant and you are its master. You have to take control. For lasting results, you have to change your money blueprint.

Lisa said that she felt she had so much; Suze Orman pointed out that her debt indicated that she had so little. In order to be truly more generous it was time for Lisa to become more selfish with her money.

Is Your Money Blueprint Making You Richer or Poorer?

We all have a money blueprint. We are born with one. People's money habits tend to be very much like those of their parents and their parents before them. The problem is that:

"97% of all people live and die without learning how to earn money. Their poverty consciousness is passed on from one generation to the next."

I hear you ask "97%?" and the answer is yes. Look at it another way - 3% of the world's population command 97% of its wealth.

However, our money blueprint also develops as a consequence of the interaction we have with our environment. Things that we hear, see, touch and smell that have monetary associations, especially when we are growing up and at our most impressionable, will have a lasting impact on us. The influence our up-bringing has on us is profound and, at the same time, it can be quite subtle for if you lack awareness then you may not understand how your money blueprint is actually making you richer or poorer.

Your inner-world creates your outer-world. So to see whether you have a wealth or poverty consciousness you only have to look at your:

1. Physical health
2. Bank account
3. Social life

Money cannot stay with a person who has a poverty consciousness and vice versa. I was listening to a teleconference the other day and the subject of lottery winners came up. It is a well-known phenomenon that many lottery winners soon lose all their money and sometimes end up more impoverished than before their windfall. They often lament that winning the lottery actually ruined their lives. One of the speakers said:

"They won a million dollars but they were not a millionaire."

How true! And here's the paradox - you have first to be a millionaire in your mind before you will be able to hold onto a million dollars. You have to develop a millionaire mindset if you want to become a millionaire or a billionaire mindset if you want to become a billionaire!

So what does your health, bank statements and social life say about your financial mindset?

Imagine you were preparing to build your ideal house. You instruct an architect who presents you with a set of plans. Unfortunately, the plans are not at all what you had in mind. Would you go ahead and build the house anyway hoping that somehow the builders would miraculously be able to follow these plans and still come up with your ideal house. Of course not! Until you change those architectural blueprints so that they are congruent with the image you have of your ideal home you will never be able to construct your ideal home. Similarly, until you alter your money blueprint, the level of income you earn will not change significantly.

So if your financial mindset is programmed for you to earn $100,000 per year and you are a commissioned salesperson then, on average that's how much you will earn. You may have a few months where you may far exceed your average income but your money blueprint will assert itself so that you end up earning $100,000. If you earn a salary rather than a commission, unless you change your wealth mindset, it's unlikely you will consider doing a job that will pay you $150,000 even though such a job could be well within your capabilities.

Many years ago Bob Proctor was delivering a seminar to a group of insurance agents. He suggested that anyone of them could write $500,000 in business in a year. They thought he was nuts and that he certainly didn't know anything about the insurance business.

During a break one agent, Dan Slovan, challenged Proctor and said that there were 20,000 agents in the company and in 100 years no one had ever written $500,000 in business. Proctor calmly told him:

"Well then you can be the first."

Slovan looked at Proctor incredulously and he was far from done with his objections. Proctor had told them that they could achieve this in a year and so Slovan reminded him that it was now August.

"Well, then it won't take you as long to do it. Don, if you can see yourself as a $5,000,000 producer and you get emotionally involved with that idea. You turn it over to your sub-conscious mind I guarantee that you will act differently and what you attract to you will be quite different. You'll do it."

Well, something Proctor said resonated with Slovan. He closed the year with just over $6,000,000 worth in business and guess what? When he crossed that imaginary threshold there was a string of fellow salesmen that followed. The income targets that were achievable had been forever changed in the minds of these salespeople.
