Film Review: Contracted

I finally got to watch Contracted (2013) today. It has pretty low reviews on IMDB, but it hasn't stopped me as it usually does from watching it, as I seen some decent films with the same reviews and ratings. I think depends on viewers personal preferences. All I can say is I really, really, REALLY liked it. There are some flows,
some stuff doesn't adds up at times. But this is the best zombie film (this can be a spoiler and it's not revealed until the very end) for the past couple of years for me. It's pretty disgusting, with a lot of gore and blood and bleeding vagina with warms in it to say the least. Haha.

Basically tells a story of a lesbian girl having unprotected sex at the party, and following 3 days of her life, while she feels funny, thinking that she got a venereal disease, her life falls apart, she becomes more and more sick as well as mental. It has a lot of good tensions, suspense, and things building up nicely.

Every minute kept me really entertained, I couldn't put my finger on what is actually wrong with her, maybe until the last 3 minutes, which made me really surprised.

Overall, any horror film lover should see it. It's such a breath of fresh air, in all the recent indie horror films.

This weeks proves to be quite busy for me, I have so many people contacting me for so many different projects and jobs. I am quite excited to start writing articles on my favorite topics. Even though I am always quite hesitant about my grammar, when I start I can't stop. I used to write short sci-fi novels when I was a teenager, I think the notepads are still in my parental home, I should defiantly re read when I am back, hopefully this summer.

I always dreamed of writing a book, since in my teens I read this fascinating book called Breathe by Anne-Sophie Brasme, who was a teenager herself when she published it. I found Breathe to be a really captivating story about friendship borderline obsession leading to a tragedy.

"After a brief idyllic period the girls' relationship becomes rocky and friendship veers towards obsession. As Sarah drops Charlene for older, more glamorous friends, Charlene's devotion spirals into hatred. Unfolding slowly and eerily towards a shocking conclusion, Breathe is an intense, convincing portrait of a possessive and ambiguous friendship."

Being a teenager, I could relate to quite a lot of things, especially to Sarah. I am not really proud of it, but I used to change my best friends every other month, resulting in their hatred for me. I feel quite sad now and am always fascinated by people having their best friends since their childhood, it's so rare as any other long lasting relationship. Especially for me who is bored with everything easily and I can't finish so many things I started. That's why I was always scared of writing a proper book. I know I can. I have so many Ideas. But I know I will drop it half way. Maybe.

No secret that I love Tom Ford even more as a person than a talented designer, well based on the interviews of only course, but that's all I need.

Do you get the most inspiration from nature? It is the ultimate beauty, after all.

Yes, nature is the closest thing to God and I don’t mean God by any sort of religion but by the connection to the universe, which I think we have lost. The American Indians had that and where I live is actually the center of the Anasazi Indian civilization. I even have two huge Anasazi ruins on the property of my ranch. I am not saying that there definitely is some sort of spirituality coming from there, but there might be. When you are close to the earth and you get up when the sun comes up and you go to sleep when it goes down, it puts everything in perspective.

So the glamour you stand for doesn’t interest you?

After just being in New Mexico for two months, I realized that I could really work from anywhere. I am really a loner after all; I am really not a social person. Because of my job people think I am out every night, but I really hate all that. I am somebody who likes to be alone and see some close friends. I am a shy and introspective person.

But nothing compares to this Polly Pocket Light-up Magical Mansion Playset I stumble upon recently online. I remember when I got this toy, there were no ending to my happiness, it's indescribable how excited I was.

Oleg Dou is a really cool artist from Moscow. He manipulates photographs in Photoshop and other software.

No wonder, as he is inspired by 19th century child funeral portraits.

Oh, I really want to go to Zagreb, Croatia now. The idea of this museum sounds so cool. I would probably stare at the exhibits forever.

The Museum of Broken Relationships is an ongoing exhibition in which anyone can contribute, it consists of objects submitted by different people from around the world,

each object telling a story of a failed relationship. Such as a wedding dress, an old garden gnome and a

cast from a broken leg, are on display with stories telling of long gone passion,

romance and heartbreak.

I think it's not all about bitter love stories but more about history and culture as well, which makes it even more interesting.

An Ex Axe

1995

Berlin, Germany

She was the first woman that I let move in with me. All my friends thought I needed to learn to let people in more. A few months after she moved in, I was offered to travel to the US. She could not come along. At the airport we said goodbye in tears, and she was assuring me she could not survive three weeks without me. I returned after three weeks, and she said: “I fell in love with someone else. I have known her for just 4 days, but I know that she can give me everything that you cannot.”

I was banal and asked about her plans regarding our life together. The next day she still had no answer, so I kicked her out. She immediately went on holiday with her new girlfriend while her furniture stayed with me. Not knowing what to do with my anger, I finally bought this axe at Karstadt to blow off steam and to give her at least a small feeling of loss – which she obviously did not have after our break-up.

In the 14 days of her holiday, every day I axed one piece of her furniture. I kept the remains there, as an expression of my inner condition. The more her room filled with chopped furniture acquiring the look of my soul, the better I felt. Two weeks after she left, she came back for the furniture. It was neatly arranged into small heaps and fragments of wood. She took that trash and left my apartment for good. The axe was promoted to a therapy instrument.

You wanted me to bake bread. Because a woman kneading dough is so erotic, isn't she? You probably thought I’d work up such a sweat that it would drip from my breasts directly into the bowl. One summer day I dressed up only in an apron, just for you and the bowl. In three years I made bread five times in this bowl. It never was any good, always hard as a rock. I don’t know why. Maybe it is because the bowl is too small for kneading, or because I sometimes forgot to put in the yeast. Do you put an egg in bread? You were always eyeing me suspiciously when I was “getting to work”. You wanted me to be like Mira Furlan in the film “Lepota poroka”. But I’m not Mira Furlan. Now I know that the bread was bad because I was afraid that you would – like it happened in the film – smash it on my head with a hammer, if I happened to look at another boy for a tad too long. After that I only ate salad from the bowl for a while. I lost 21 kilograms. And the Furlan woman is not such a babe anymore.

Watched it a while ago. It had a really weird effect on me. The most horrible thing to happen on screen in terms of make me really heart broken is animal cruelty and abandoned little children. I can't stand a parent leaving a child behind even though she cries and begs and promises to be good like in Wolfy. In English translation Volchok is a wolf cub, in Russian there is a double meaning for that word (funny thing so many people asked me to teach them Russian language this week) and another one is an old school rotating toy.
dying or leaving a child in films, especially if the child is running and crying after leaving parent promising to be good... well. It's too hard. Haha. Anyway I knew what i'm going for but watched the

Story is about a little girl, who never seen her mother for six years, because she was in jail. As she came out she didn't really cared about the girl, trying to sort out her own life, while dumping the girl on her mother. No matter that the girl loved he mother really deeply. So once while visiting her at the grandmothers, she gave her a toy Volchok, a really suitable name for a lonely little girl as well.

Film has a lot of cruelty like a mother throwing a beer bottle into a girls head, never the less you still see it as some twisted fairy tale. For example my favorite scene is girl befriending a dead boy on the graveyard, talking and even arguing with his grave portrait and visiting him every day, getting in trouble for that later on. Another powerful scene is mother telling a story to the girl how she found a bag at the graveyard and inside of it was her, she was a wolf cub at first but the mother brought her home and made her into a little girl.

I think it's a really good film anyone should see. It's a dirty reality, from the innocent childs point of view. Left me really emotional, that's why I'm trying to avoid those kind of films (Bury Me Behind the Baseboard (2009) is another good example I loved)

The Walking Dead Video Game Seasons 1 and 2 Review

I love video games, since my Nintendo has broke down months ago I have no other choice but to play them on IOS. Which is kind of sad, because when I have an opportunity I become quite a hardcore gamer. So out of boredom last year I downloaded The Walking Dead season 1 game by Telltale Games. I was really skeptical, even though I read the comics and quite enjoyed them I hated, !HATED! the TV series In my opinion it's the biggest fail ever possible turning awesome zombie story into a cheap soap opera. So I didn't know if the game will follow the comics plot or rubbish TV series one. I was pleasantly surprised when I realized it was in fact based on comic book series. It turned out so good, that I couldn't put it down for days before I finished it and after I did, I felt so empty and sad. It is super heart breaking and creepy. The post apocalyptic world is just so real, that it gives you the chills - it's empty, dirty, silent and hopeless. Not the zombies are the worst enemies of the human kind, but the humans themselves.

I am excited to play the second season right now, it turned out really good, and even more intense as you get to play as an 11-year-old Clementine.

I don't really like american writers, I am in to Russian science fiction - Alexander Belyaev is my god and Professor Dowell's Head is my bible. Seriously, it's my favorite book, well maybe after Master and Margarita by Bulgakov, I re read it a million times, however when I talk about it no one ever has the idea what it is and what it's all about, what makes me like it even more.

So for some strange reason I liked Chuck Palahniuk, even though I never really admitted it to myself or anyone else, even though I really liked Fight Club and Guts (fascinating story about a boy and a circulation pump in a swimming pool haha) I thought that he was over hyped. Obviously after reading that:

“We'll never be as young as we are tonight.”

(Rant)

There is so much in those simple words, that make me so melancholic about it, never better said.

Thirst (Bakjwi). Film Review.

I was hesitant to watch it for years. Heard about this film since it was released, but I thought it will be too funny in a bad way. So couple of weeks ago out of boredom and reading some positive reviews I decided to finally see it. What can I say? New favorite film in my collection. A must see for anyone.

The plot starts out as priest becomes a vampire after a failed medical experiment. Sounds kind of cliche, but it's not.

It's completely new and fresh view on vampire horror films, even though it's hard to describe only with one genre. During the film I cried and laughed a lot (the second one is really rare). Cinematography is beautiful. Plot is entertaining, weird, crazy, artistic and poetic. It's quite disturbing, but has a lot of dark comedy at the same time.

The director of Thirst (2009) - Chan-wook Park is one of my favorites (Oldboy(2003) and I'm a Cyborg, but that's OK(2006)).

Stumbled upon Martin Wittfooth art by accident and I was fascinated straight away. His art explores everything I love and appreciate. What not to love about animals on fire in post apocalyptic world and especially his love for polar bears? But

seriously, I think the art work is magical and so close to what I used to do for my final year at uni. Exploring the death in animals and manipulating it through photography, collage and art work. People thought I was completely insane, standing on a pavement taking pictures of smashed dead birds for hours, then doing a collage of them sitting on a branch, haha... too bad I submitted it but forgot to keep the copy for myself. However in my opinion it's not crazy or disgusting. It's beyond interesting. Exploring something off limits, taboo and generally inappropriate is my opinion of good art that should be disturbing, in a way to communicate the message and be memorable.
