The Sumatran elephant could be extinct in the wild within three decades unless immediate steps are taken to slow the breakneck pace of deforestation, environmentalists warned Tuesday.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature recently listed the animals as "critically endangered" after their numbers dropped to between 2,400 and 2,800 from an estimated 5,000 in 1985.

A psychedelic gecko and a monkey with an "Elvis" hairdo are among 208 new species described last year by scientists in the Mekong River region of Southeast Asia.

The region is home to some of the world's most endangered species, including tigers, Asian elephants, Mekong dolphins and Mekong giant catfish, the group said.

The Philippine rail system used to operate in a stretch 479km from La Union to Bicol on Luzon Island. After decades of neglect, it lost service to the North but recently revived to service Manila and its suburbs.

Nevertheless, ingenious as always, Filipinos came up with a very interesting mode of transport.

This is a photo-story of the Cambodian Pepsi Factory built in the 1960s.

When Khmer Rouge overtook the country in 1975, it was total chaos. You can still see on these photos that the factory was abandoned immediately and almost everything remained where it was. Closed, shut and off-limits.

All of the Pepsi staff fled the country but some of were caught and sent to work in the fields. What they don't realize is that the price itself was scary enough.
