We Meet up with Roger Binny

We (vamsi and myself) meet up with Roger Binny, the gentleman who got India vital initial breaks in the 1983 world cup. A very pleasant and gentle person he is. Vamsi was thrilled. Binny spoke to him as if he knew him personally. I mentioned to him the England Semi Final when he bowled really well - England was cruising and he gave India vital breaks. He was pleased to share his memories. He also mentioned in today's cricket technique is going away and it has become a batsman's game.

Should Sachin Get the Bharat Ratna..

Bharat Ratna is a prestigious honor. People of rare qualities should be given. People who have contributed to the betterment of the society - discoveries with wide impact (not just India but the whole world), qualities which are a beacon for countless people, courage in times extreme danger, selfless sacrifice for protecting the nation, achievers from extremely deprived backgrounds should be given the Bharat Ratna.

Bharat Ratna should not be given to Sports persons and Film Personalities.

Just because a person has scored countless runs, is affable and innocent looking does not qualify for a Bharat Ratna.

Moreover, Sachin has sold a Ferrari gifted to him by another person. This single act of his shows he is an ordinary person after all.

Personally, I would never sell a thing gifted to me by another person. (It is another matter people rarely gift me something !! ).

Vamsi participated (result awaited!) in the Old Boys Association GK Quiz conducted at Ramakrishna Vidyalaya Mysore. Parents of the participants were allowed inside to have a stroll. We were amazed at the cleanliness maintained on the entire campus. The beautiful trees and well maintained gardens were a treat for the eyes. Here are some pics.

An IIT student refuses to take degree from PM. The student from IIT Kharagpur refused to accept his Degree from the PM of INDIA. It is a slap on the face of the economist who accepted PM's post without being a Lok Sabha MP and here is a student who is so patriotic to refuse his degree as the Govt. is not responding to the Anti Corruption movement of ANNA.

IIT students are highly motivated, aspiring for Professional Success. But this student from IIT Kharagpur has shown remarkable sense of occasion and history in refusing to accept his degree from the PM.

History is being made by Anna and this student has made his own bit.

Timely Gestures - Shows the Man

Recently, a good friend of mine had an unexpected fall in the bathroom and suffered an injury. The injury was of a serious nature, required some 15 stitches, and most crucially just adjacent to the spinal cord. Near miss, I thought. For the few subsequent days at decent intervals, I called him and chatted up as any friend would do.

During the course of my cell calls, my friend told me that he fell in the bathroom in a friends house, while on a visit to Chennai. The incident occurred at around 8.30 AM, at the hosts place, and due to profuse bleeding he had to be at the hospital till evening. Meanwhile, his family and the hosts were panic stricken. Naturally, given the nature of injury and its location on the body. The hosts were particularly upset as it occurred at their place.

I thought of posting this incident, as my told me during the cell calls, that he did something which most of us would never think of doing. As soon as the doctors were able to control the bleeding and were able to suture up, he made it possible to visit the Hosts place (house where the accident occurred) and reassure them that everything will be fine, and he has no hard feelings. I felt that this was a fantastic gesture on his part, to travel back, a good one hr or so trip in a vehicle, in Chennai traffic. I felt proud to have him as my friend. As I felt somewhat uncomfortable to tell this him directly, I sent him an SMS :-).

Well, this happened two months back.

Recently, I came across a news item that the British Prime Minister, visiting a restaurant in Italy for a second time, to reassure a worried and upset waitress, who regretted that she did not serve him properly during his visit earlier in the morning.

Well it is our own Sachin.

Sachin Tendulkar sells his ferrari, which was gifted to him by Michael Schumacher. Sachin received it as a gift and he has now sold it!
