Nile Creek Nature Hike

A beautiful day today for a Nile Creek Nature Hike, above. Lots of sunshine and deep forest vibes!

We begin by walking under an old railway bridge, above. An interesting perspective!

Lots of deep nature stumps appear during the hike, above. Some are very massive in size!

Above, we pass by the Nile Creek Salmon Hatchery. Quiet at this time of year but during the fall they are very busy here with the salmon migration up the creek.

Nice log bridges to cross Nile Creek, above. The water level was pretty low so our dog would prefer to cross on solid ground!

Beautiful dogwood blooms on the trail, above. They smelled heavenly!

Lots of trails off of the main trail. We found a nice serenity swamp above, that was quiet and peaceful.

Wild Pacific Weekend

Wild Pacific Weekend

We recently spent a Wild Pacific Weekend on west coast of Vancouver Island. A morning photo from Kennedy Lake, above, began a beautiful weekend!

A Wild Pacific trail hike started in Ucluelet with a walk on Terrace Beach, above. The waves were gentle and the atmosphere was enchanting.

As we hiked up into the rain forest, Terrace Beach was barely visible, above. The ocean was an amazing sea green.

The sea views from the trail are awesome with wind swept trees and ocean carved, rocky shorelines, above.

My favorite mossy tree was there to greet me, above. Every mossy hump is unique with many layers and even ferns growing from some of the higher ones!

Big Beach sunset, above, brought out some spectacular blues. It was so peaceful here listening to the soft lapping waves with no cares in the world.

The next day we took a long hike on Long Beach in the Pacific Rim National Park. Incinerator rock, above, is an epic part of this beach. As a popular surfing beach, this is a premier destination in the park.

Finishing off this Wild Pacific Weekend with a sunset at Little Beach in Ucluelet, above. A perfect place to relax and reflect on our west coast adventure.

Neck Point Park Nature Vibes

Neck Point Park Nature Vibes in the city of Nanaimo on Vancouver Island, above. Lots of beautiful trails, beaches and rocky outcrops to satisfy your deep nature desires.

Above, Neck Point ocean views are multi-layered with ocean, rocks, clouds, and mountains!

I saw a couple of Oyster Catchers with their beautiful orange beaks, legs and feet, above.

Neck Point rocky shore above, shows the winter colors of the rock and ocean. Awesome nature vibes here!

Above, Neck Point mergansers were gathering in a sheltered cove.

Neck Point was awesome at low tide when you can walk across the neck. Last time we were here there was only water with the big rock showing.

Neck Point eagle vibes today, above. He was watching all the other shore birds with great attention.

Neck Point Beach above, looks like a nice swimming beach in the summer months.

Welcome Tree House at Neck Point Park is a wonderful area to bring young children. Lots of hidden wood carvings and other art on a short nature trail.

Ammonite Falls Adventure

Ammonite Falls Adventure

Today I would like to take you on an Ammonite Falls Adventure.

The adventure begins at the Benson Creek Falls trailhead, below. This is located off of Jingle Pot road in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada.

It is a beautiful deep forest walk with many mossy trees and green ferns, below.

A small creek appeared off the forest path, below. It is so fresh and cool in these beautiful woods.

We make our first decent down to Benson Creek, below. The trail is steep but well maintained.

Benson Creek was flowing quite fast with all the winter rains, below. A nice place to come and chill out.

Benson Creek Falls are just visible through the trees from the top of the ridge, below.

Just a short distance from Benson Creek is Ammonite Falls, below.

They are truly spectacular at this time of year.

Lots of stairs and steep slopes make this Ammonite Falls adventure a great workout! We hope to come back in the summer months to look for fossils that are visible when the creek is low.

Rosewall Creek Provincial Park

Lots of deep nature at Rosewall Creek Provincial Park, on Vancouver Island. The creek had beautiful reflections, above.

Mossy covered trees line the stream bank. The shades of green are amazing!

Emerald green colored creek water is crystal clear, above. Great place for a quick dip in the water.

A very unique knarley stump at Rosewall Creek, above. Earth elements create awesome deep forest art!

Under the bridge I found some cool street art, above.

On the east side of the park are some train tracks that are not in use but fun to walk on.

Under the railway bridge, above, is a nice chill place to hang out.

Hiking on Rosewall creek is easy when the water isn't flowing too fast.

Maple trees are extremely mossy with many hummocks on them, above.

Moving up the creek the nature gets deeper and the creek more rocky.

There is a nice picnic area by a huge cedar tree, above. This area is close to the park entrance.

We really enjoyed our hike at Rosewall Creek. We can't wait to come back and explore higher up the creek where the waterfalls are.

Today I am happy to share with you Fractal Frenzy digital art! I have been making fractal art for over 15 years and it is always stimulating to my senses. Above, I created Bubble Spike Fractal art.

Bubble Spike Mandala fractal art, above shows how well some fractals transform into mandalas. Open your mind and consciousness!

Above, is another fractal I created called 99. It is more surreal and equally colorful. Fractals and math go together in phenomenal ways!

I used a hypertile effect from Paint Shop to create 99 Hypertile Fractal art, above. Lots of psychedelic, cosmic vibes here!

Spiral Flare fractal art, above is very flowing and vibrant. I used Apophysis software for all these fractal creations.

Wild Pacific Wanderings

Wild Pacific Wanderings

We just came back from a recent holiday and I am happy to share some Wild Pacific Wanderings with you. Hiking the Wild Pacific Trail in Ucluelet is an awesome way to experience the rocky shore ecosystem, above.

Wild Pacific views are experienced around every turn in the trail, above. It is a rugged and natural place.

Looking high on the trail, we spot a deep forest rhododendron, above. I remember it being much smaller 20 years ago!

Lots of odd cedar trees along the Wild Pacific Trail, above. The winter storms are so powerful they shape the trees into twisted growth patterns.

We visited Florencia Bay beach in the Pacific Rim National Park, above. Lots of sand, rocks and some large, stump driftwood.

Many interesting rocks and small tide pools of water when the tide goes out. There is so much inspiration for taking pictures here.

We spotted some cool anemones in one of the tidal pools. The water was crystal clear.

After a busy day on the big beaches it is nice to chill out with a beautiful sunset at Little Beach in Ucluelet.

Nanaimo Harbor

We really enjoyed a beautiful spring day down at the Nanaimo Harbor. The blues from the ocean below and sky above were spectacular. We also found lots of small shops to check out. As well as shopping many people were enjoying the awesome sunshine.

A nice seawall walk at the waters edge takes you as far as you wish to walk. There are lots of benches to sit on to enjoy a coffee and the beautiful view. This is a peaceful and serene place in the middle of a city.

Standing tall in the harbor is the Bastion which was built by the Hudson's Bay Company in 1853-1855 to defend its coal-mining resources. We couldn't go inside the building since it was shut for the winter. This gives us a reason to come back again.

Horne Lake Adventure

Horne Lake Adventure

On a beautiful Saturday morning we decided to head out on a Horne Lake Adventure.

A lovely view of the lake from the beach. Great picnic sites are available with fire pits.

Hiking up to the Horne Lake Caves we travel through an ancient mossy Pacific rain forest. The Main cave entrance is unique in its unfolding columns of stone.

We didn't have our flashlights with us to explore the inside of the cave but it was exciting to poke our heads in!

Ghost Pipe Plant

Ghost Pipe Plant

Otherworldly, but oh so interesting is the Ghost pipe plant (Monotropa uniflora). Also known as Pipe or Corpse plant these flowers were in the deep forest on a slope by a stream. I have only seen this species of plant one other time in my lifetime. That was on Cypress mountain in 2008 during a field trip.

Ghost pipe in 2020 multiplied in numbers of plants. Everywhere I looked in the deep forest I could see patches of them here or there. Very interesting that they appeared in such great numbers during the year of Covid.

I love the pure white beauty of a new patch of ghost pipe. They are easy to spot in a dark forest. The actual plant lives underground so you can only locate them when they flower. Are there ghost pipe in your area? Please comment below if you see some.

There are many interesting plants in the Pacific Northwest rain forest. I hope you have enjoyed seeing some ghost pipe plants.
