Why it is important for cats to be properly housed?

An essay written by one of my students, Jasmine.(year 5) ...from an Int. school in Kuala Lumpur. This was written when we were working on the techniques of developing a composition. Her first attempt at writing is commendable considering the fact that we have had only a few lessons for starters.

Many people love to keep pets such as cats and dogs. However, cats inorder to be properly housed , need the care of true animal lovers. Firstly, cats need proper care. They should be be given adequate food and water and shelter. It is also important that the cat undergoes grooming regularly. Its nails should be trimmed and it should be bathed at least twice a week.

It is best to keep cats out of the streets as they can pose a nuisance.This especially is a common occurrence at a hawker centre. Not only do they make a place dirty, but also they tend to litter everywhere. Moreover, they are scavengers who look through leftovers and leave the place untidy.Furthermore, cats can be very noisy. They often cry at night and indulge in cat fights.

Cats need to be kept out of trouble. There are animal abusers and cat haters who torture and abuse cats. As a result of this, many cats get killed in the process. Besides that, cats have a high pregnancy rate. as they give birth to a litter of kittens at a time. Unfortunately, cat owners are not willing to look after these kittens so they dump them on the streets! Too many cats housed in one dwelling can lead to overcrowding, food shortage and high maintainence.

Cats are carriers of germs and known to spread diseases. On the other hand stray cats can rummage through garbage bins and dirty the streets. They are also capable of scratching and attacking people thereby spreading illnesses. Therefore, if cats are properly housed , they can be domesticated and kept safe!

Creative Writing is a form of expression. Through our writing we can express our thoughts, ideas and feelings. A good composition should:

captivate the reader's interest in your story.
persuade the reader to read on.
bring forth the readers imagination effectively. The reader should imagine that he/she is a character in the story.
Envoke the reader's five senses and as the story is being read, it should bring out the reader's emotions. eg: make him feel excited, sad, furious etc.
Let the story live upto the reader's satisfaction. He/she should wish to read more of your work.
The plot should be simple and easy to grasp.
The setting of the story should be decided at the planning stage. The setting involves the place where the story took place and the time period when the story occurs.
Your writing should be a piece of logical writing.
Use various techniques of imagery to create vivid pictures in the reader's thoughts and bring the characters to life.
Your characters should be more believable. Establish a protagonist and an antagonist along with other secondary characters.
Plan your essay: There should be a beginning or introduction. This should be followed by body 1, 2, 3 which provides the events and highlight the crisis. Finally, round up the climax to a resolution to conclude your story.

For the subject Literature in English, the syllabus requires students to learn the poem "How do I love thee." by Elizabeth Barett Browning.

As i was browsing for the analysis of this poem, I came across several sites that had analyzed the poem satisfactorily. However, i was quite impressed with this blog that offered a line by line analysis.
