SEO used to be a simple process, but with the evolution of Googles algorithms, there are now more ways than ever to be penalised and drop out of SERPs. Search engine optimisation specialists Deeho run through the top 10 most common reasons why a website doesn't rank in Google in 2017.

1. Over Optimization

On page keyword density is an easy way to drop out of the rankings for specific keywords. In most instances we see, there are simply too many exact match keywords on the page for the total volume of words.

This ratio is very important and should be around 2% for a 500 - 1000 word page.

In addition, because Google uses 'Latent Semantic Indexing' to associate keywords, you should use variations of your keywords or phrases instead of repeatedly using your ideal keywords.

2. Duplicate Content

Duplicate content is a big no no. If you reproduce content that google is already indexing then you will struggle to rank.

In addition, if you have several pages that all cover similar content then Google will in all probability not be able to decide which of them it prefers so it will err on the side of caution and rank none of them.

It is preferable to have one large page covering a topic in great detail rather than having many smaller pages all touching on the same subject matter.

You should also reference authority content by linking to it rather than by reproducing their content.

3. User Engagement

How people react to your content has a large bearing on how you rank. If real visitors like your content and stay on your pages, then google will recommend it to more visitors.

By contrast, if a large percentage of your visitors hit the back button and 'Bounce' (see below) back to Google for a different result then Google will assume that your content is not suitable for that search result and you will drop in the rankings.

Your click through rate is also influential, so write compelling meta description tags as they have a direct impact on how many people click on your google listing.

4. Bounce Rate

Your page bounce rate needs to be as low as possible. As a rule of thumb, 55% is the upper end of where you should aim for, but having said that, your bounce rate is compared with your competitors that rank above and below you, so you need to have a bounce rate that is lower than theirs.

The downside to this is that you have no way of finding out what their bounce rate is.

5. Page Load Speed

If your site is a heavy old hector with large images and file sizes then it will load slowly and drop in the rankings.

Use YSlow, the firefox plugin to test your pages and aim for a score of 80/100 or better.

6. Backlink Keyword Density

Baclink exact match anchor text used to determine your ranking for that specific keyword. Today (in 2015 and going forwards) it does exactly the opposite.

The more you use an exact match anchor text as your link text, the less your will rank for that term (and associated terms).

You should use your URL, your Brand and Junk text for 75 - 85% of your backlinks with plenty of variation to keep your back-link profile looking natural.

7. Backlink Categorisation

This is a little known area of SEO but is vitally important for top rankings.

Every quality page indexed by Google has been given a category. This category is determined by the categories of the sites linking to it, and it then passes that category onto the sites it links to.

Google uses this categorization to identify the quality, relevance, theme and influence of your page and without suitable categorization, you won't rank first for any high traffic search terms.

8. Contextual Links

You should link from within your content, referencing other relevant content in your own site as well as external 'authority' content that your users will find useful.

It is a case of givers gain, because if you are prepared to share useful content that your visitors will value, Google will reward you with better rankings.

9. Link Networks / Bad Neighbourhoods

Google has declared war on link networks that automate the linking process and attempt to manipulate their search results.

They have a manual spam team that hunt these networks down, de-indexing them and ALL the sites they find that use them.

Be warned.... just because a link network seems to work today, doesn't mean that it will do so tomorrow.

If you can find the network and join it then so can Google and they will hit you hard when they find it.

Avoid automated link building at all costs, be cautious of who you get links from and keep your site safe from potential penalties.

Negative SEO is a real threat in todays Google, so keeping clean and avoiding bad neighbourhoods is vital to your long term success online.

10. Site Quality

The quality of your writing, navigation, site code errors and the like will affect your sites performance in SERPs.

Google can easily assess the quality of your site and will rank it accordingly. Every page needs to have a unique page title, description tag, content etc as well as having no errors, dead links or other coding faults.

Google wants to recommend good pages, so give them good pages and you will benefit with increased traffic and visitors.
Google Panda & Penguin Introduction

**UPDATED Oct 24th 2014**

You need to understand which algorithm, Penguin or Panda has penalized your website if you are going to fix it. Penguin is the cause if you can see a drop in Google traffic on the 24th April 2012.

There have been various penguin and panda launches during the past few years and if you have traffic data, you should be able to isolate a large drop in rankings to a specific time frame. Once you have a date for your traffic drop, take a look at this great post at http://moz.com/google-algorithm-change to determine which algorithm update hit your site.

In simple terms Panda affects your on-page stuff and Penguin affects your off-page (link based) stuff, so you should soon be able to determine whether your site has been hit for on site spam/low quality content, or because you have low grade, irrelevant links pointing at your site.

If it's Penguin/linking related, you should begin by analysing your current links.

Whichever keywords dominate your back-link anchor text will usually be the ones hit hardest by Penguin. There is a free back-link checking tool at www.majesticseo.com which will show you the search terms currently being used in your back-links.

Back-Links

The Google Penguin algorithm requires text link density of less than 5%. A Google friendly linking profile will have mostly URL related links, Brand related links and lots of different ‘junk’ links instead of keyword rich links. Brand links are variations of either your website name or company name. URL links should be varied as follows to provide a natural link profile;

http://www.xyzcompany.com
http://www.xyzcompany.com/
http://xyzcompany.com
http://xyzcompany.com/
www.xyzcompany.com
www.xyzcompany.com/
xyzcompany.com
xyzcompany.com/

Getting links from different Class C IP addresses is really important for your back-linking strategy. It is more important than ever that your inbound links come from relevant, themed sites rather than random content sites. The trust score of the domain carrying your link is important. A back-link from a page that is already being linked to from a quality themed resource is a great link to get.

Link Networks

We would advise website owners to avoid automated link networks because they can't provide anything other than low grade links and when Google discover the network it will lose all its ranking influence and sites it links to will be penalized heavily. While it may seem like a good short cut, DON'T take it!

Google Panda Requirements

Check your content is original, well written and that it adds value to 'the conversation'. If it does those three things then you are well on the way to building a useful website that your visitors will enjoy.

Check your meta-data tags in Google webmaster tools because duplicate tags on two or more pages can lead to a ranking penalty. Each page should have it’s own bespoke meta description data. The meta description tag is frequently used in search engine results below your page heading. For this reason you should compose it to get a better click through, not for keyword spamming.

How Visitors Engage with Your Content

Google penalizes slow loading sites. Check that your site is fast enough using YSlow in Firefox. The bounce rate for your website measures the amount of visitors that don’t like your content. This is an indication to Google that your content isn’t what visitors are looking for, and so you will see your website drop for the search terms with the highest bounce rates.

Page Views

Increasing the number of pages that your visitors look at is a good way of increasing the quality score for your website content. Getting your visitors to click through to a second or third page on your site is beneficial for your search engine rankings. The average time spent on your pages is an indicator of content quality. Website visitors should stay on your site reading your content for as long as possible.

If your site has a weakness in any of these areas then your search rankings will be affected. You need your site to reach a minimum standard for each element listed if you are going to rank well.
Best Ways to Make Money Online

There are so many opportunities to supposedly make money online, but which are the best? The ones that actually work, that are easy to operate, that don't require much capital to get started, that will make you money rather than cost you money...... we are asked these questions every day......

so.....

What is the Best way to make money online?

The first part of our answer is that it depends what you want to do.

Do you want to earn some extra cash?

Or

Do you want to build your own online business?

Earning extra cash is relatively easy to do, you can advertise your skills on sites like http://www.peopleperhour.com/, http://www.freelancer.com/, or https://www.elance.com/, which all allow you to find work such as data entry, content writing, and administration work or a per hour or per job basis.

If you want to break free of the rat race and start your own business, then you have two basic online options;

Sell Products

Sell Information

Make Money Online Sell Products

If you decide to sell products, a good starting point is eBay or Amazon as they both have large traffic volumes already in place to show your products to.

The downside to selling products is that you will need to have some capital for stock and advertising, unless you opt for a 'dropshipping' business model, which typically has lower margins, but the benefit of not having any stock to hold.

Make Money Online Selling Information

They call this the information age, and that is exactly what it is. The internet is all about exchanging information, ideas, methods, etc.

Information is a very valuable commodity. Have you ever heard the expression "Knowledge is Power"?

People sell information in many ways, but one of the most affordable to get into is the world of blogging.

Blogs are big business. In our opinion, the best way to make money online is blogging.

There are millions of blogs covering millions of niches, and the truth is, most of them never make a penny.

But some of them.... they make millions, thousands more make hundreds of thousands a year, and then there are millions of others that make tens of thousands a year.

So what is the difference between the successful money making blogs and the million of unsuccessful blogs?

The answer to that is simple..... blog strategy.

Every successful blog has used the same or variations of the same strategy for blogging success.

They all started the same way, as one person in front of a computer with an idea and grew into million dollar or pound operations.

So how did they do it?

They follow a proven strategy that will work for anyone who has something to say.

Blog Success Strategy

Find a Profitable Niche to Blog about

Build a quality blog to a proven structure

Add content on a schedule

Promote that content

Monetize the content

That is basically all there is to it!!

How to Make Money Blogging

Blogging is a great way to start a business online, and more and more people are setting up blogs every day. Most of them however are doomed to failure because they fail to understand what it is they are trying to achieve and how they should be structuring their blog posts in order to attract traffic and make money blogging. This post will guide you through ALL the important points that you need to address in order to be confident that you will end up with a great, high quality blog that people love to read.

Getting Started Blogging

All successful bloggers have a work schedule that they stick to with religeous passion.

How frequently you post new content to your blog will depend on how nuch time you have available and of course how much you have to say on your subject.

Just so you know, the top 100 Technorati ranked bloggers all post to their blogs daily...... is that a coincidence or is that a habit that you need to adopt if you are going to build your blog into a 5 or 6 figure income?

To get started blogging, read this post

then;

download the Free 'Ultimate Blogging Guide'

Which will help you to define your Niche, choose a URL, set up blog hosting, install your blog files, set up your blog so it is SEO friendly and ranks well, as well as showing you how to get traffic to your blog, how to use social media to build your readers, how to use email marketing to connect with your readers regularly and much, much more.....

In the early days, while traffic volumes are low, you will have to put a lot of effort into traffic building and creating LINKS to your blog posts in order to help their search rankings and popularity.

Link Building

Link building is the process of getting other websites and blogs to link to you. One of the most effective methods of doing this is to 'Guest Blog'.

Guest blogging is the process of writing high quality, unique, interesting and engaging articles and having them published on other blogs within your themed niche.

There are many sites that have developed ways to speed up the guest blogging process, but you need to bear in mind that the more you automate the guest blogging process, the more you will reduce the quality of the guest posts that you create.

Blogging is all about quality. Guest blogging is all about...... yes, you guessed it...... quality.

In an ideal world, you want to make a relationship with a fellow blogger who has a high quality blog, related to your niche, who will allow you to write a post containing a link back to your blog content.

That will ensure two things, firstly, you will know that your blog post is on a quality site and secondly, you will know that your linking content is unique to you and therefore of higher quality.

Some of the guest blogging sites that automate the process duplicate your content out to several sites so you will end up with the same content linking back to your blog from differnet sites. This will detract from the quality of the post, and reduce the link value that your new link gives you.

Guest Blogging Tips

Write Unique Content for each Guest Post.

Link to a related post on your blog, not just the home page.

Make personal contact with blogs that you want to guest blog on.

Quality beats quantity every time.

Add a few links to your guest posts once they have been published.

It is important that you support your gust posts with a few links from related topic blogs or websites. It is also a great strategy to bookmark your guest posts and share them social too as this will help them to be found quickly and easily.

Your Blogging Schedule

Adding new content to your blog can be a challenge at times, but if you want to create a quality resource that you can earn an income from, it is the first thing that you should be thinking about.

In order to promote your blog, you will have to write guest posts that link back to your money site, so for many people, a blogging strategy of adding at least one new post 'to the web' daily is a more practical strategy.

This means that on Monday you might publish a post on your main blog, then on Tuesday, you might publish a guest post on another site, on Wednesday you might write another guest post, and on Thursday you might publish two or more Web 2.0 posts linking to your guest posts.

By Friday you are ready to post to your main site again, with another unique high quality post.

The top earning bloggers are adding post to their sites, guest posts and links to guest posts all day everyday, so your strategy will take longer to get you lots of traffic, but the more you can do, the better your money site blog will perform and the sooner you will see an income from your blog.

Daily Blogging Activity

If time is not an issue, you should be doing the following;

Step 1

Writing a high quality post for your blog each day

Ping your blog

Share across social media

Bookmark your new content across 6 - 10 bookmarking sites

Then;

Step 2

Guest Blog linking to your new post

Ping the guest blog

Share the guest blog on your social networks

Bookmark the guest post

Multiple guest blog posts linking back to your new post will improve your posts rankings faster, but each guest post needs to be unique, high quality and on a niche related guest blog.

Then;

Step 3

Create a niche themed Web 2.0 site and add unique, high quality posts linking to your guest blog posts. The more related these posts are, the better, but again, you need unique content on each Web 2.0 post for this to benefit you.

Ping your Web 2.0 sites

Share across your social networks

Bookmark your Web 2.0 posts.

If you follow this schedule, then your blog will make money as you will build a network of high quality content, all driving your money site up the search engine rankings.

Once your blog is established and has a significant volume of readers, you will be able to scale back the volume of guest posting and web 2.0 posts that you create, because your readers will be sharing and linking to your content for you.

Until you have gained enough readers to promote your posts for you, you need to be going through the above process for each and every blog post that you create.

Quality Blog Content

While it may sound daunting, and time consuming, once you build a network of guest blogging sites that like your content, and have some Web 2.0 sites created, it doesn't take that long to generate the quality blog content you require.

As I said, if you don't have the time to do this completely each day, do step 1 on day 1, step 2 on day two, and step three on day three.

An additional benefit of promoting your blog like this is that if you have days when you can't think of anything new to add to your money site...... and you will have days like that I promise you...... while you are thinking of new content topics... download this free blogging guide for help with how to develop new blog topic ideas .... you can add a guest blog post related to one of your posts you have already written, or you can add content to one of your Web 2.0 blogs.

Every post that you add linking to your money site content, or to a guest post you have published will improve your rankings in search and bring you more traffic, just remember to focus on three things, quality, quality and quality.

Ultimate Blogging Guide

For those of you that would like to start a blog, but don't know where to start, we have put together the ultimate blogging guide to walk you step by step through the process of setting up a blog and developing it into a profitable enterprise.

Blogging can be very rewarding, but you need to do it right, and the big problem for new bloggers is that, because the results aren't instant, you can't be sure that you are doing everything right in the first place.

Blogging is a straightforward process, of publishing high quality content to your blog, which will be found, read and liked by people interested in the topic that you are writing about.

BUT..... there are some pitfalls along the way.....

Because your first blog posts won't attract much traffic, how do you know if you have structured them correctly?

There is a difference between hoping that something will work if you stick at it and keep doing it for long enough, and knowing that something will work if you stick at it and keep doing it for long enough.

Blogging requires a stubborn streak, it requires persistance, determination and a steadfast belief that you are heading in the right direction.

Our Ultimate blogging guide mirrors the blogging habits of the 100 top bloggers online today. We teach you how to do all the things that they all did in order to make their blogs successful and profitable.

Some of these bloggers earn in excess of 7 figures a year writing their blogs, and they do that because they kept on keeping on, creating quality content that people wanted to read and kept coming back to.

By writing a blog you are building a community. A community of likeminded people all interested in one topic.

That is the main purpose of your blog, to gather those people together.

Why Should you Ping Your Blog

Blog Pinging is the process of telling the search engines that you have posted new content on your blog.

When you publish new content, you have two choices;

Wait for the search engines to find your content

Tell the search engines that you have new content

If you post on a regular basis, then after a little while the search engines will get used to the frequency of your posts (as long as they like the post quality) and will revisit your blog naturally expecting to find fresh content.

Until you have established a frequency of posting, the search engines might not visit for weeks at a time, so you need to inform them of new content so that it is indexed as quickly as possible.

There are several Blog Pinging sites, some of which work better than others.

We tend to use two for each post that we publish

http://www.googleping.com

http://www.pingomatic.com

By submitting your blog to two pinging services you will be making sure that your blog is quickly indexed so it can start attracting traffic to your blog.

All you have to do to ping your blog is to add;

your blog name

your blog home page url

your blog RSS feed url

your email address (Google Ping only)

Each Blog Pinging service will report on the success of your pings.

Pinging your blog as soon as you post new content is a great habit to get into.

Even though some blogs 'automatically' ping your blog when you publish new content, you should still manually ping them your self because auto pinging is prone to errors.

Professional Blogging Habits

Habits of Professional Bloggers

If you want to build a professional blog, you need to be a professional blogger. Blogging is publishing. The only difference between you and a magazine publisher is that a magazine has a print deadline which they have to stick to daily, weekly, monthly, or bi-monthly, whereas you can publish each article as soon as it is finished.

The problem with being able to do things when you want to is that they end up never getting done, which is why so many bloggers fail to get their blogs off the ground.

Blogging requires discipline, persistence, determination and discipline..... ok, I might have already mentioned that one already!

There is only one difference between you and the biggest professional bloggers out there in the ether making tens of thousands of dollars, pounds, Euro's per month.... their commitment to their blog.

If you want to be a professional blogger, then you need professional blogging habits.

Without a deadline, nothing will get done.

Can you imagine what a magazine office would be like if they didn't have a deadline to meet.... their publication would never hit the presses..... there would always be something else that needs to be finished before the could hit the go button, but......... because they have a deadline to meet, their magazine always hits the newstands on time.

You need to treat your blog posts in the same way. It is really easy to say you will finish your post tomorrow, the next day, maybe the day after that...... BUT......

ONLY if you create a blogging schedule and then stick to it will your blog succeed.

It doesn't matter too much if it's weekly, once a fortnight, or whatever, develop a plan and stick to it.

If you want to go play with the big boys and have big boys toys then you should get into big boys professional blogging habits.

Is it a coincidence that the top 100 earning blogs on the planet all post content daily?

NO..... in case you wondered........ they post daily because posting daily is what puts you in the big league. It is what will develop a six or seven figure income for you if you stick to it and keep on keeping on.

Most bloggers start off with great intentions and then fall by the wayside when life gets in the way.

Take me for example. Today, I made a post on my main site over coffee this morning at 6.30. Since then I have been attending to various business issues, have created two tutorial videos for a game I am developing, and now at nine pm, I am finishing the day with a post to this blog.

Yes, according to my girlfriend I work to long, but I don't, because it's not work..... I lovr what I do and it rewards me very well. The main reason it does that however is that I treat it with the respect it deserves and stick to my schedule of thing i need to do in order to get where i want to be.

The moral of this post.... if there is one, is to come up with a schedule of what you are going to do and when you are going to do it.

Once you have that schedule, stick to it...... and you will reap the rewards.

Treat your Blog like a Business

Blogging is publishing, if you want to build a successful blog then you need to think of your blog as a publication and treat it as such.

Like any publication you should focus on delivering quality content, inspired by compelling headlines.

If you are to create a blog that performs as well as a print publication, you need to treat your blog like a business and use the same techniques that make traditional media successful.

Top Ten Blogging Rules;

Develop a strict publishing schedule and stick to it. Traditional media publist to a timetable and you should also.

Entice your readers with exciting headlines. Print media uses the front cover to encourage potential readers to make a purchase. You have 70 characters to make readers click on your post.

Apply SEO to every post that you write. Effective SEO will deliver readers to your blog, so optimize every post.

Write for your readers, not for yourself. Each of your blog posts should address the issues, problems, or challenges facing your readers and offer solutions to those issues.

Use popular search terms as the core theme for your blog posts. Targeting your posts at real traffic flows is vital if you are going to build your readership. Anyone can rank well for search terms with no traffic.

Have a promotion routine for each blog post that you write. Link to your post via social media, social bookmarking, guest posts, blog comments and make sure that you ping your blog after each posting.

Track your progress with Google Analytics. The bounce rate of each post is a clear indication of the quality of your content.

Monetize your blog posts with tightly targeted offers and products. Don't over sell on your blog, instead present suitable offers when appropriate.

Build an email contact list for your subscribers. You 'list' is one of the most powerful marketing tools you can build. Once you have found people interested in your niche, you should stay in touch with them.

Build traffic from different sources. If you generate traffic from many sources then you will insulate yourself and your blog if one of your sources should dry up for any reason.

If you follow these 10 blogging rules, then you will by default treat your blog like a business and as a consequence will develop a great resource that your readers love.

Blogging Goals for 2013

It doesn't matter where you are currently with your blog, only where you want to be by this time next year.

Blogging isn't a get rich quick business by any stretch of the imagination, rather it is a get rich slowly scheme, assuming of course that you are doing all the right things at the right time.

The next question you should be asking your self is whether you are doing all the right things? What are the right things? How much should you be doing them?

If you want your blog to be earning you real money that you can take to the shops and spend then you unfortunately have to put in the initial work to make it successful first.

There is an old saying that there is no such thing as easy money..... and to an extent that is true, but if you look at what it actually takes to work from home writing a blog, there are lots of advantages, that add up to make it about the easiest way to make money online.

No commute, no early starts, no alarm clocks if you don't want them, no train journeys, no rain, no parking charges, no traffic wardens, no suits, no intolerable office colleagues...... shall I continue?

The benefits of earning a living from anywhere you choose to be are many fold, you can run your blog from home, holiday, cafe, beach, anywhere you choose, in just an hour or two a day.

To begin with, we would recommend spending as much time as you have available on your blog, so that it grows as quickly as possible for you. The faster you can make it successful, the quicker you can afford to easy back and reap the rewards.

So how are you going to make your blog successful in 2013? What are you going to do that will drive it forwards?

Here is a list of the Blogging Goals you should be thinking about if you want to achieve success in a year:

1. Write a blog post every day
There will of course be days that you really have nothing to say, but they should be few and far between. There are many different ways of coming up with a subject for a new post. It's not a coincidence that the majority of top 100 Technorati blogs all post new content at least once a day..... you should do the same.

2. Ping your post with 2 pinging services every day
This process gets your new content found and ranked really quickly.... read more about pinging blogs

3. Share your Content Socially
Get in the habit of sharing each new post on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn etc It is a great way to build your audience and get your message out there.

4. Comment on Other Niche Blogs
Being active within your niche will help you to grow the popularity of your blog. If you really want to become successful, add 20 top quality blog comments on your competitors blogs each and every day.

5. Use Social Bookmarking Sites
Social Bookmarks are a great way to build followers to your content. Start by bookmarking all of your posts with as many social bookmarking sites as you can. It really is a case of the more the merrier.

If you just do these 5 things, your blog will be well on it's way to profitability, but there are a few other things you should also be considering too......

Choosing a Niche for your blog

Choosing a niche for your blog is the single most important part of the setting up a blog process.

Your success will be determined by how well you research your niche for potential traffic, and how much interest you have in the main niche topic.

If you are setting out blogging and are looking for a niche to blog about, here are a few considerations;

1/ Blog about something you know
2/ Blog about something that interests you
3/ Blog about something that has popularity
4/ Blog about something scalable

You blog needs to be timeless.

Even though many posts will be relevant to a particular time or date, if you had for example set up www.londonolympicsblog.com in 2007 when London was confirmed, and may well have written hundreds of pages of content, you would now be a bit stuck, because the event has happened and your blog is no longer relevant.

If instead, you had created a blog about Athletics, and included a section about London 2012 then your blog would still be capable of working.

Finding a niche for your blog that interests you is vital, because in order to make your blog popular, you are going to be writing new content for it on a regular basis.

If you are not passionate about your niche, you will soon struggle to generate high quality content that your readers will be interested in.
How to Use Twitter Effectively

Getting the most out of twitter takes a little knowledge, and a little time.

The big secret is that you need to have targeted followers, and to use the correct #tags in your tweets.

Followers need to be interested in your niche. There is no point collecting randoms just for the sake of it.

Instead, follow people who are already following niche related twitter accounts.

Selecting the right #tags to include in your tweets is also important.
You want to target the right audience without spamming them with
unrelated content, so explore the popular used #tags using the search
bar, and only use the ones suitable to your tweets.

Twitter is also a medium for sending people to content rather than
selling to them, and if you remember this then you will go far.

Use your content to sell, the purpose of your tweet is to get a click through to the content.

Experimentation is the key to success, see what works, see what doesn't and make some changes and try again.

Facebook is FREE Advertising

Using Facebook and other social networking sites such as Google+, Twitter and LinkedIn for marketing is a great way to get free traffic to your website or blog.

Apart for the time needed to make a few posts, it doesn't have to cost you anything to get in front of thousands of potential customers.

It is important to treat those prospects right though, as social media is not the same as some traditional forms of advertising.

If you are looking to generate new business and need additional sales channels, then Facebook, Google+ and Twitter might just be the channels that you need to succeed.

You of course need to set your accounts up, and manage them correctly in order to get the maximum benefit from your efforts. There are some great suggestions HERE which will get you started on the right path.

You can also find out more here as well.

Facebook is here to stay and even though some people are keen to resist it, it can be a useful tool if correctly used.

Which Auto Responder?

Autoresponders

Auto responders are a great way to get your message out to your contacts in a controlled, time efficient way.

Popular Autoresponders;

How easy is it to actually make money from a blog?

What is involved in the process?

What do you need to do in order to be successful?

These are questions that we get asked time and time again. Millions of people fail to get their blogs off the ground because they don't understand what they need to do to succeed.

Blogging isn't any different to any other method of generating money, all it requires is a little know how, and lots of time patience and persistence.

If you have a blog and want to turn it into a money spinning enterprise, you need to know what you should be doing in order to make that happen.

The vast majority of people who make a start fall at the first hurdle, which is 'consistency'.

Here's how it goes;

You have something to say about a particular niche, subject etc, so you create a blog and for the first few days you publish some great content.

By the end of the first week you are struggling for things to say, so your posting frequency begins to drop off before you have really gotten started.

The major search engines never establish a pattern for your posting, so don't visit you very often, so your site doesn't get many visitors.

This makes you more despondent and you end up either stopping completely, or posting on a random cycle that doesn't do anything to encourage visits from either real people of search engines.

...And so your blog fails.

How you should Blog

If instead you had a working template of things you need to do, then you would stand a much better chance of success.

All the steps you need to succeed, written down in front of you for you to follow, with further information on each step if you need it.

Blogging is just a case of keeping on keeping on ans Winston Churchill used to say.

The No.1 biggest reason for failure is that people don't get instant results and so quit.

Being realistic, from your starting point, it is going to take you 6 months of posting daily before you begin to get some decent traffic numbers.

It sounds like a long time, but that initial 6 months is the most important time in your blogs life, and will determine success or failure.

If you are prepared to put in the initial work then you will build a blog that will make you money.
Twitter and Marketing

Using Twitter for Marketing is relatively straightforward. You just need to follow a few simple rules in order to make it work for you.

Here are some great ideas that will help you to drive quality traffic

Use advanced search options to locate opportunities. The advanced search opportunities at search.twitter.com
allow you to insert keywords that people would use in conversations to
find you or your product or service. For example, I search for people
who are tweeting the phrase "looking for speaker." It turns up a ton of
tweets related to event or meeting planners. Once I find these keywords
in posts, I reach out to the person who tweeted them to say hello, ask
to connect and start building a relationship.

....... Read more from this article

Seek Business-Specific Conversations

If you use Twitter for nothing else, use it to learn from others. Head to hashtags like #SMB or #smallbiz for advice, resources and current news of the small business variety (also follow along during Twitter chats).
Although broad hashtags like these can generate an overwhelming number
of tweets every day, tune in every so often for a quick update. A couple
of scrolls down the feed could inspire your next blog post, marketing
tactic or bestseller.
If you seek a more specific conversation, narrow hashtags down by topic. The #marketing hashtag contains a ton of small business-related content, as does #sales. Or take a peek in the #startups or #entrepreneurs
hashtag for inspirational profiles in the space. Finally, if you’re

Use Twitter to Promote a New Book

On 16th of Feb. we had an interesting and informative webinar about
Using Twitter on Market Your Book. Our panel consisted of Carolyn-Howard
Johnson (author of the HowToDoItFrugally series), Joel Friedlander
(proprietor of Marin Bookworks), Laurel Marshfield (professional writer,
ghostwriter and developmental editor), Phyllis Zimbler Miller
(co-founder of Miller Mosaic Power Marketing) and Penny C. Sansevieri
(CEO of Author Marketing Experts, Inc.).

We answered a lot of questions but still had a few unanswered. This
post answers those questions. If you have any questions, please leave
them in the comments for our panel.

1. I was wondering if anyone had any tips on staying on top
of the traffic – how do we work through the noise to get tweets that
are relevant. The flipside of that is how do we break through the noise
as promoters – to help others to focus on our tweets. [Magdalena Ball]
Beginners Guide to Becoming a Twitter Marketing Expert

Twitter can be a fantastic tool for getting your message across to
thousands of targeted people who are talking about, or have an interest
in your specific goods or services.

In order to harness the power of Twitter though, you need to have a
good understanding of how it works in order make it work for you.

To get started, first you are going to need a Twitter account. You
can have different Twitter accounts for different subjects, and doing so
will help you to target the specific followers that will be interested
in your goods or services.

Firstly try to find a username that says what you do, or what your
product is, as it will aid your profile when people are searching for
those goods and services.

Once you have a profile set up and have verified your email address
for the account, you can begin by posting a few tweets and following a
few people.

Tweets are 140 characters in length maximum, so you need to be
concise in what you say. You will also want to include a link to content
that you want to show your followers. Links are often long, and on
Twitter are a waste of characters, so sign up for a Bit.ly
account which will automatically shorten your links for you. Just add
your Twitter account settings in your Bit.ly account, under
settings/connected accounts.
If you do not tell the search engines what your pages are all about and what you would like to rank for, how do you ever hope to rank for those terms? Page Title is historically the home of the vane. Often filled with corporate identities, tag lines and in essence, wasted as a result. You have 96 characters that are the very first words that appear on your page….. use them wisely for your main keywords.

Alt Text is the text that appears in place of your images if a visitor has images disabled. A happy by product is that although the search engines can’t read image content, they can read your alt text on each of your images. Make sure that you fill the alt text with your main keywords for every image on your page.

Use Heading Tags to focus your keywords for search. The search engines love to see Heading tags used as they indicate what a paragraph or section of your page is going to be about. The more focused your pages, with tight focused Headings the better, as they will be viewed as high quality content and ranked as such.

Each of your pages should ideally be focused on just one subject. If the search engines see that your page is all about one thing from start to finish, it will conclude that it is a better page than one that discusses lots of different subjects. As a direct consequence you will rank higher with that page.

The search engines can only rank you for words that it can find within your content. The more frequently it finds each keyword, the more important your page will be considered for that keyword…. Up to the point when you will be thrown out for keyword spamming. To avoid this, write naturally, fro your readers, but pay attention to what the search engines need to see too.

If the search engines can’t follow your links then your pages will never be found or ranked. Websites designed using Flash, or with Java Script Menus can often suffer in search as the content is inaccessible. Plain simple web design will give you the best search engine rankings.

If you are tempted to cheat by using underhand practices to improve your rankings then be aware of the consequences when you get caught… which you will. Your site will be removed from the rankings and you will have little recourse to getting it re listed. There is little benefit to using “Black hat” techniques as you will be reported if you try to rank for competitive search terms, and if you are targeting low traffic keywords…. Why bother in the first place?

In Summary, concentrating on effective design is essential for good SERPS, planning your site layout before it is build can buy you free rankings that will take a lot longer with an inefficient site design.
How that traffic is actually achieved is in reality of little importance to my clients.

Too many people are hung up selling their service when they would be far more successful selling the results of that service. People don't want to diet plan, they want to look and feel good. People don't want 18 inch thich roof insulation, they want small heating bills etc

As "Walls" once advertised, sell the sizzle not the sausage.

If you want to create more sales leads, then solve more problems for your customers. We are all in the problem solving business, the key to success is to sell the solution, not the product.
Once you have defined your solution and the target demographic likely to suffer from the problem that you can fix, you will need to get in front of them. Preferably masses of them, preferably when they are ready to buy, with their cash in their hand.....

So where do these prospects live? Where do they hide? Where do they go when they are looking to buy your problem solving solution? More and more the answer is online....

Google dominates the search market which is where over 80% of people online find the things that they are going to buy. Yes, there are a large number of "windowshoppers" as well, but if you set yourself up properly then you will capture all of the window shoppers email addresses so that you can sell to them at a later date. After all, they are at the very least a "Warm" lead if they are looking for your solution in the first place.

Google operates by ranking websites in order of perceived importance, based upon two things, "on-page" information and "off-page" information. The "on-page" information includes all of the written content on your pages as well as page title, alt text, meta data, page headings, image names, etc

The "off-page" information is a measure of your sites popularity, in simple terms Google looks around at how many other websites link to yours...... the site with the most links is the winner.
To get to the top of the rankings you will need to conduct "Due Diligance" with regard to the keywords that you want to rank for. It is a time consuming process getting to the top so you want to make sure that when you do achieve top rankings that you will be rewarded with lots of high quality traffic.

Next post will cover "Keyword Choice"

Google PR is far less relevant than it once was. Instead of focusing your efforts on creating high PR links, it is far more beneficial to your ranking efforts to focus on the categorization of the pages linking to your content. See http://www.deehoseo.com/search_engine_optimization/backlink-category-relevance.php for more information.

Having said that, Google PR is still a metric that has an influence, and is an overall indicator of the authority of the links pointing to the page. The higher PR relevant category pages you can build links on the better.

There is a lot spoken about PR Juice, how to get it, what it does and how it can help you, not all of it is useful information though.

The most important aspect of PR is that it is a tool used by Google to establish the value of a link from your site. Yes, it is a measure of your sites worth in the eyes of Google, but it alone will not improve your ranking. A PR 1 page can out rank a PR 7, but I would rather have the link from the PR 7 any day.

PR Juice is the effect that PR sites that link to you can have on your site. If you can get lots of PR 6 sites to link to you then you will gain from their PR Juice. This is for the simple reason that Google will see your site as being "recommended" by many "authority" sites. If you continue to collect links from established high value PR sites such as these, you too will become an "authority" site in the eyes of Google and that my friend is the power of PR Juice.

PR from a page is shared between the pages it links to, so a PR 7 with one external link passes most of that PR to the linked page, however, a PR 7 with 100 external links divides the PR7 between the 100 linked sites, severely reducing the influence the page has.

Paid Links....

** UPDATED Nov 2014**

Further to previous comments made here, Google seems to be concentrating its efforts on protecting the integrity of it organic listings. The best way for it to do this is to prevent larger organisations from buying their way to the top via paid links.

Google even encourages webmasters to report paid links!!

The tightrope currently being walked is tricky to get right, for in effect Google is a seller of paid ads themselves. In actuality they are a publisher who displays dutch auction ads on their pages, and not much more..... but the sum of the parts quite frequently adds up to more than the individual components.

When is a paid ad a banner? Are all banner ads going to be penalised? In which event many Google adsense campaigns would surely fall foul?

I get the feeling that it is more the case of being seen to be doing something rather than actually doing something that is the important issue here.

There is no doubt that many sites that rank highly in Google for very competitive keywords have paid links pointing to them.

Is a paid directory classed as a paid link?...... only it seems if it is a low quality directory! High quality directories are ok by Google.
Online Reputation Management

I'm back from my travels in the far east and yes it is indeed far.

I have been drawn to the latest seo bolt on service, namely Online Reputation Management or to put it another way, the art of making sure that bad news gets buried and lots of lovely good news rises to the top and masks the bad.

This prctice is increasingly being used not only my the rich and famous, but by the not so rich and the not so famous. It is increasingly normal these days to "Google" a new partner, business associate, colleague etc and as such if you are not careful you can soon find your reputation tainted through no fault of your own. In these inlightened times, the net is alive with information and with the rise in popularity of the blogging, facebook etc it is now easier than ever for any disgruntled client, customer, lover, journalist to paint a less that savoury picture of you.

This is where the top SEO companies such as ourselves come in. We can in some cases remove some of the unflattering material (although this is very difficult to do) and then we bombard your name with more suitable content, blogs, websites articles etc and then promote them into the top listings. This has the effect of pushing the unwanted material down the rankings onto the second or third page where it will do less harm to your reputation.

A search in Google for Kate Moss will show that she has recently had her name cleaned. As in the listings all of the more selatious stories about her are on the second and third pages and the top ten results are filled with only positive listings. In light of her recent news worthiness this would not be the case if the results were ranking completely naturally.

Google works in much the same way as the rest of the world in that bad news travels further than good news.

Directory Submission

A lot is made of Directory Submission and Search Engine Submission in chat rooms and within various seo related forums. I am quite concerned for any unsuspecting customer who could quite easily get taken in by one of the thousands of sites that offers to sign you up to thousands of directories every month for a few pounds. It is often claimed that using such a "service" will promote the target site within the major search engine......... which is highly debateable.

Two main reasons prevent this service from being as much use as it appears;

1/. If your site was actually added to thousands of directories every month then your site would be removed from the main search engines as you would have tripped the main link volume filter operated but the majors.

2/. The shear volume of links they claim they will add implies that it is nothing more than a piece of software they will be using to submit your site automatically. The standard and quality of the links will be either very poor or terrible.

Ask yourselves this question " If this service works so well in promoting a website and moving it up the rankings in the major search engines.... where are the vendors ranking in Google?"

If they are in the top ten then have a look at exactly how they have achieved it. Just because a site is there today, don't immediately assume that they have been there for years or will be there in a years time. Some unscrupulous "Black Hat" seo's will happily cloak site after site in order to maintain a "permanent" presence even though it is with different sites. A cloaked site will not last very long at the top of competitive searches, The search engines will remove them as soon as they are found.... permanently. That will happen to your site too if you use their services, except that you wil have already paid them and they will be impossible to find.

Take time to choose your seo company carefully and you will be rewarded with long term growth, increased sales and a top ranking to be proud of.
