Bones - 05x05 – "A Night at the Bones Museum" – Recap

A security guard sees someone and runs off when he realizes that it is a mummy on a fence.

Booth's boss (Assistant Director Andrew Hacker) comes to deliver something to Booth by hand and flirts with Brennan. Booth's boss asks to talk to Brennan alone and then when she and Booth show up on the scene of a crime, Brennan tells him that his boss wants to sleep with her. She's come to the conclusion since he's asked her out to dinner. Booth says all she has to do is to turn him down, Brennan doesn't want to do that, but Booth explains that its wrong because its his boss. Cam explains that the mummy on the fence at the plant was probably staged by a local environmental group, she thinks that the body was said to looked to be fried. There is a sign next to the body that reads, “big energy is killing the planet.”

Sweets interrupts them at the crime scene to ask for a favor regarding Daisy. “Let me guess, no sex until she gives you what you want,” Booth guesses. He wants Brennan to give Daisy another chance, claiming that he's helped Daisy so she will be able to control herself. “Personal favors are sort of like penalty shots, you sort of have to take them,” Booth tells Brennan. “Unlike dinner invitations from your boss.” Brennan agrees to give Daisy a twenty-four hour probationary period.

Cam says that it's like no burn she's ever seen. Brennan explains that it's not a burn. “Wow it smells like Christmas,” Booth says when they all sniff the body. Brennan explains that it's a mummy from more than 3,000 years before. They further find a lot of fresh blood on the body making it look like the mummy may have killed someone.

At the Jeffersonian, Brennan is excited that the mummy may be from an illegal tomb raid. Daisy starts to gush over Brennan, but then calmed down immediately when Brennan looks a bit scared. Daisy raises her hand to speak while Hodgins speaks. They find an opening in the remains and think that there may have been something stored in the mummy. Brennan is super excited about the ancient remains. Angela and Hodgins think that there may have been treasure hidden in it before. Brenann and Daisy get quite excited at the thought of being honored by the American Anthropology Society and being on the cover of the journal, both Hodgins and Angela seemed stunned by their extreme excitement.

Booth calls to make sure that no mummies have disappeared from anywhere. Booth's boss comes into his office to see why Booth's calling about missing mummies, he wonders if it's a crank call. His boss asks if “Temperance” told him about their date and asks if there's anything between her and Booth. Booth says there isn't.

“So, you're spying on Daisy?” Angela asks Sweets who's in the Jeffersonian. He just wants to be nearby in case she needs an intervention. Angela is watching an old movie about mummies as research, Cam walks in. Cam asks why Sweets is there. “She's Daisy's trainer,” Angela explains. “If she attacks, he can put her down.” Brennan interrupts with the skull, so that Angela can do a facial reconstruction. He was originally decapitated. “Oh, The Mummy, 1932!” Brennan says excited at what they're watching. “You don't know who Britney Spears is,” Cam comments. “But you know this movie. Brennan explains that it's the movie that made her want to be an anthropologist.

Brennan and Daisy discuss the anomaly in the remains and finds out that its a genetic deformation. Daisy realizes that he's 18th dynasty and Brennan figures out who the mummy is. They return to the group watching the mummy movie and say that they know who it is. They say that he is Anok, the boy with the bleeding heart. His older brother fell off his horse and Anok trampled his body in order to ensure that he would be pharaoh. His father didn't believe that the injuries were a result of the fall and had Anok's head cut off. He's know as “the boy with the bleeding heart” because of the loss of love of his father and grief for his brother. Anok is supposed to be at the Jeffersonian on loan from the Egyptian government, he's supposed to go on exhibit on Friday. Cam wants to know why they didn't know he was missing and Brennan has already put in a call to Booth to talk to the curator. Daisy asks Sweets why he's there, but he claims he's there for the movie. “So, I'm like some kind of experiment that you need to supervise?” Daisy asks. Daisy explains that she's smart and she doesn't need him. That some people that he's “scary smart” and everyone looks scared, especially Sweets.

They go to see the curator of that exhibit and when she doesn't answer her door, Booth knocks down the door. Brennan sights blood dripping out of an Egyptian sarcophagus and finds the dead curator in it missing an eye.

They determine that the blood was a match for the blood found on the mummy. They find that the wound of the eye and the hole in the mummy have similar tool markings. The notes of the dead curator are missing and they find out that someone else was holding them. They find out that someone else was fighting for the same funds and that person is a likely candidate for her murderer, the head of the Ancient Rome exhibit. Angela tells Cam that she thinks that mummy curses are real. Hodgins finds out that the murder weapon was forged in Ancient Rome.

Booth and Brennan go to talk to Doctor Wheton about him arguing with their victim and Brennan realizes that one of the exhibit pieces is missing.

Angela has found that their particulates are actually what was used in Ancient Egyptian paints. They're discussing how to figure out what it was hidden in his chest when the Egyptian government shuts down their investigation. They find out that CAT scans were made of the mummy and that there was a man who had wrote the Egyptians in order to gain permission. They find out that there was a man who had asked the victim to be her doctoral advisor, but had decided when he got there that she didn't have time for him. He didn't even know if she followed through with the CAT scans, but it was his idea.

Brennan goes on a date with Booth's boss. Brennan brings up the fact that Booth has them take the hard boiled egg from the meatloaf since his mother used to tell them that it was eyeball. During the date, Brennan gets a text and she's needed back at the lab. She makes a new date with him before she leaves.

Angela and Brennan discuss Brennan's date. Angela tells her that Booth would rather go on a date with her, but Brennan counters that with his boss there's the opportunity for sex. Angela asks why not with Booth, but Brennan quickly changes the subject. Angela shows Brennan what she found. Angela has found an object with hieroglyphs on it, though some of them are not all there so they're going to have to try to decipher what it says.

Sweets tries to get advice from Sweets and he accidentally implies that Cam is old. She agrees as long as there aren't specifics. Cam gives Sweets advice about Daisy, so that he doesn't further insult her. Sweets hugs Cam. Daisy walks in on the hug and thinks that there's something else going on. Daisy tells them that a courier came to drop off the information they needed.

They realize that where Anok's heart was was a huge red ruby. They question the woman from the Egyptian government and they find out that the mother had the item put in Anok's chest and that she didn't think that he was guilty of his brother's murder.

At the FBI Building, Booth's boss walks in to talk to Booth. Booth and the boss talk about Brennan and how she is. Booth explains that she doesn't take into any kinds of pressures. As the boss leaves he tells Booth that he should try the meatloaf as is since the egg doesn't taste like a human eye.

Booth takes an egg to Brennan's office and he's pissed that she talked about Booth at her date. Booth is irritated that Hacker knows that story. “What goes on between us, is ours,” Booth tries to explain to her.

Booth questions Wheton about his fingerprint being found. He admits that he knew about the CAT scans and saw them. They find out that the guy that the victim was to turn in his notes, but finds out that he would have gotten the CAT scans with her notes. He was having his car cleaned out and they can smell Christmas in the shop vac.

He explains that he did it because he lost his retirement in the market and that she just got in the way.

Sweets explains to Daisy that he knows that she's brilliant and that he wants for her to only do well. He doesn't mean to get into her way. Daisy rips open Sweets' shirt in the Egyptian exhibit and they start tearing clothes off after making up.

Brennan sneaks Booth into the Anok and Meti exhibit to show him the exhibit and explain what had happened. Meti's fall from his horse did kill him because he suffered from brittle bone disease. Brennan is nervous about speaking and Booth told her that she changed history. Brennan counters that he does that everyday by making the world safer. He had thought that she was going to take his boss, but she explains that it was between them. They come very close to kissing when Angela, Hodgins, Cam, Sweets, and Daisy interrupt.

Some good news for the Canadians out there. Bones 5x06 'The Tough Guy in the Tender Chicken' has already been shown, but sadly the American's will have to wait till next week due to the fact that the Baseball hasn't finished.

Ausiello: Okay, mate. There’s a crazy-ass rumor going around that Will will discover Terri’s faux baby plot, dump her, and then, in a moment of passion, get her pregnant for real! The really crazy-ass part? Sources confirm that two of those three things are true! And the other one? Not so much.

Question: I loved the Rachel-Puck hook-up in last week’s Glee! Is this something that the show may continue in the future? —Tiana
Ausiello: Not in the immediate future. In the immediate future, Puck is mostly into Quinn. Which is sweet considering he knocked her up and all.

Question: I have a really fun assignment for you, Aus. Create a chart listing every Lost alum there ever was, and then next to their names, tell us where things stand in terms of them returning for the final season. I just know how much you love to make lists. —Steven
Ausiello: I have a better idea: Let’s scrap the chart and forget we ever had this conversation. In return, I’ll share this Lost nugget with you: I hear Team Darlton will give us the answer to one of Lost’s oldest and most confounding mysteries. And I’m pretty sure it’s an answer none of us expected to get.

Ausiello: Here’s what I know: It’s a big Red John episode and someone dies.

Ausiello: Nope.

Question: Is anything ever going to happen between Tony and Ziva on NCIS? —Lauren
Ausiello: I thought for sure something might happen in the Nov. 17 episode when the two sorta-lovebirds get trapped in an elevator overnight during a statewide blackout. But then an NCIS insider pointed out that it’s not Tony she’s marooned with, it’s another major male character. Guesses? Head to the comments!

Question: I’m really excited to hear about Bones‘ flashback episode. Does this mean we’ll be getting a visit from Zack? —Estee
Ausiello: “That’s still up in the air,” responds exec producer Stephen Nathan. “We would like to have him in the episode, but we have to work out scheduling as well as story issues.”

Question: When are you going to post your Q&A with the Smallville producers? — Trisha
Ausiello: I’m eschewing the customary Q&A in favor of a parceling-out approach. Here’s one scoop. Here’s another. And, looky here, there’s a bunch more below!

Question: Will Clois move full-steam ahead on Smallville or will there be a monkey wrench that derails the train? —Murnice
Ausiello: While the relationship hasn’t exactly moved along faster than a speeding bullet, you’ll be glad to know that there are blue skies on the horizon — beginning with this week’s big smooch. “They both have a few issues, so things never go as smoothly as you think,” says exec producer Kelly Souders. “But what’s great about the relationship, because it’s sort of more adult, mature relationship, is it actually brings their issues up to the forefront, and makes them start dealing with them instead of being the younger versions of themselves, where they might not have been that conscious of it.”

Question: Will Clark ever find out about Lois’ so called “Sex Dream” on Smallville? —Lisa
Ausiello: “I would say tune into [episode 9] ‘Pandora,’” Souders teases. “Reality is relative in ‘Pandora,’ but I will say that when [Lois] goes to the future, there’s some skin there.” Souders adds that “‘Pandora’ is literally like a finale. It’s huge. You’ll see an alternate ending for everyone in the cast. You’ll see what could happen to them and the future is dramatic. You won’t be disappointed.”

Question: When will Clark put on the iconic glasses on Smallville? —Jackson
Ausiello: “There’s something coming up in these first nine episodes,” Souders reveals, “in which Clark might at least contemplate glasses.”

Question: Why has Allison Mack had so little screen time on Smallville this season? —Kathy
Ausiello: The calm before the storm, perhaps? “Chloe fans will not be disappointed,” Souders maintains. “There will be some budding romance in her life from an unexpected source.” Oliver? “I’m not saying.” In possibly related news, Souders reveals to me exclusively that during the second half of the season, “Chloe is going to meet a new hero who is not all that he’s cracked up to be.” Will this hero be carrying a DC Comics certificate of authenticity? “I don’t think we got the rights to his name cleared,” says Souders, “but it’s somebody fans of the show will be familiar with.” Guesses? Question: I was so happy to see that you called Parks and Recreation one of the most improved shows of the season. I totally agree! Got any scoop? —Abby
Ausiello: You ain’t seen nothin’ yet, according to showrunner Michael Schur. He says a November installment featuring a guest turn by Megan Mullally is “the best episode we’ve ever done.” Mullally plays Ron’s ex-wife, which is pretty funny since she’s married to his portrayer, Nick Offerman, in real life. But the laughs don’t end there. “She works for the library system, and they’re trying to take over the lot that Leslie is jealously guarding for her future park,” Schur explains. “So Ron has to get back involved with his ex-wife and fireworks ensue.”

Question: Please tell me that this week’s Ask Ausiello is not closed yet! You must tell me when Gemma tells SAMCRO what happened to her on Sons of Anarchy! —Cindy

Ausiello: I suppose. Ebon Moss-Bachrach (John Adams) has been cast as a potential love interest for Ellen. Also, rumor has it that Keith Carradine’s character will get it on with Glenn Close’s Patty.

Ausiello: Now that those crazy kids are finally in sync on the love front, I can share with you a major spoiler I’ve been sitting on: This will be their first obstacle as a happy couple.

Question: I love Lauren Graham just as much as you do! And I’m glad you got to interview her about Parenthood, but I want more! I’m greedy! — Elizabeth
Ausiello: If it’s more you want, it’s more you shall get. Parenthood boss Jason Katims tells me that Graham’s single mom Sarah will differ slightly from the version Maura Tierney played in the pilot. “We were very much writing for Maura and in Maura’s voice, so there will be adjustments because of who Lauren is as an actress,” he says. “But it’s not like we’re completely reinventing anything.” Although he concedes that the circumstances under which Graham landed the role were “not good” (Tierney left to undergo treatment for breast cancer), Katims says he’s “extremely excited” to be working with LG. “I love her work,” he raves, “and I’m just so excited about what she’ll bring to the show and her enthusiasm for the project.”

Question: When, if at all, will Peter realize he doesn’t belong in this dimension on Fringe? — JSL
Ausiello: I ran this query by executive producer Jeff Pinkner, who responded, “Clearly part of the tension of this season is that the audience knows more about Peter than Peter knows about himself and we will continue to play that tension.” Or, to put it in the words of Massive Dynamic’s legal division, “No comment.”

Ausiello: Naomi’s going to tell a lie. No biggie, right? Wrong. This time, there will be major consequences.

Ryan O’Neal Also Guest-Stars in Episode

Zooey Deschanel, star of the romantic comedy “(500) Days of Summer” and sister of BONES’ Emily Deschanel, will guest-star in “The Goop on the Girl,” a special holiday-themed episode of BONES airing Thursday, Dec. 10 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

In this first-ever on-screen pairing of the Deschanel sisters, Zooey Deschanel plays MARGARET WHITESELL, a distant relative of DR. TEMPERANCE BRENNAN (Emily Deschanel). When Brennan’s father, MAX KEENAN (guest star Ryan O’Neal), makes contact with Margaret, he invites her to spend Christmas with him and his daughter. Meanwhile, Brennan and BOOTH (David Boreanaz) investigate the death of a man dressed as Santa Claus who was blown up after a botched bank robbery.

Zooey Deschanel’s film credits include “All the Real Girls” for which she received an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Lead Actress; “Elf” with Will Ferrell; “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” with Sam Rockwell, Mos Def and John Malkovich; “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford” opposite Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck; “Gigantic” with Paul Dano; and “Yes Man” opposite Jim Carrey. She will next be seen in the film “Your Highness” opposite Danny McBride, James Franco and Natalie Portman. In addition to her work on-screen, Deschanel and singer-songwriter M. Ward perform together as the musical duo She & Him. The pair has earned rave reviews for their debut album, “Volume 1.”

The milestone 100th episode of BONES, directed by Boreanaz, will air in spring 2010.
