Farewell to 'The Office'

I just finished watching the series finale of The Office. It was a pretty good wrap up of the show, regardless of people constantly bitching that the show has gone downhill. What show doesn't go downhill? The only show I can think of is possibly Seinfeld. I don't think the past two seasons have been all that bad. It has had its hits and misses. They have been true to the characters (except for maybe Andy) and that is what is important. However, I feel like in the finale Steve Carell was treated more as a prop than a character. He had like two lines through the whole thing. I'm sure Carell was busy but it was dumb to treat him as second banana. It would have been better to not have him at all. Other than that it was an emotional and well-written close to a wonderful series. So long, Office. Now there are only two decent shows left on television. You will be missed.

R.I.P. Richard "Phil" Collins of 'Trailer Park Boys'

I wanted to dedicate a post to Canadian icon Philadelphia "Phil" Collins of Trailer Park Boys who recently passed away. He was one hilarious old bastard. It is a shame he died before the shooting of the new Trailer Park Boys movie that has been announced. It won't be the same without his hysterical appearances.

I can't give you a "bam!", Phil. But I can give you a "green eggs and haaaaaammm!"

We will miss you, Mustard Tiger.

I Will Never Get Will Ferrell's Autograph

Alas, I have had two in person opportunities to get Will Ferrell's autograph. Most people don't even get one. But I fucked up both my chances. The first time was when he came to St. Louis to promote The Other Guys with Mark Wahlberg in August 2010. I never thought I'd get close enough to snag a signature so I didn't bring anything for him to sign. I hadn't even started collecting autographs at that point. I was just into filming the event for some reason. But an autograph would have been much cooler. And if I had brought something and wasn't holding a camera, I was close enough to get one. As a current autograph collector, I now look upon myself as a total dumbass.

Will Ferrell in Person #1

My second chance came in 2012 when he came to St. Louis on a "campaign" with Zach Galifianakis. He had heavy security that day and wasn't in the mood to sign many autographs. When we asked him to he said "sorry guys" and kept walking. It was all about the odds of where I was standing so it was fate's fault, not mine. Fuck you fate. I did get Zach's autograph, which was great. He seemed like a really nice guy. Too bad what I said to him was kind of dickish. But you can read about that in a previous blog.

They don't look as "clean" as some of the other Beatles Blu-rays, but I suppose that is because it is in black and white. I also think these were cropped from their original aspect-ratio. But movie studios like to do that. Not much we can do about it.

In 2008 and 2009 I had the opportunity to be mentored by Disney animator Joe Haidar at Webster University. He has worked on countless films, including "Who Framed Roger Rabbit", "Aladdin", "Pocahontas", "The Lion King", "Home on the Range", "Looney Tunes: Back in Action", "Alvin and the Chipmunks" and his own award-winning independent project "Animated American". He was a really great teacher, unfortunately I am not a great student. He taught me a lot but I was not talented enough to put it into action. Oh, regret. You run my life. Anyway, he is a really cool guy. I wish I had half of his talent. His rough sketches are ten times better than my finalized ones. So I decided to post some sketches he did while teaching me.

It is no secret that Plucky Duck is one of my favorite cartoon characters of all-time. But almost as great as teen Plucky himself is baby Plucky, voiced by Tom Ruegger's son . We all know that Tiny Toon Adventures is a great show. But mix it with alcohol and we got a real winner. Some of you may not be aware of the banned episode where Buster, Plucky and Hamton get drunk (on ONE beer) and end up dying in a car crash. No, I'm not joking. The episode was even included in the volume three set. Thank you Warner Bros.! You actually did something right for a change! It is the best worst movie ever made. Written by and starring Paul McCartney. Here are forty-two screen captures from one of my favorite movies. I don't love it because of the plot, I love it for the musical segments. Critics treated it way too harshly when it premiered in 1984.
