My Thoughts:

Kady Cross has given us another BRILLIANT installment in this fantastic series. In this book we are given more insight into Emily’s story and how she came to work with Griffin King. It was interesting to see more of Emily’s gift with machines and what she could do. Even in the face of extreme danger, Emily keeps her wits and is able to find a way to save herself and those she cares about. I absolutely love these characters. They are interesting and engaging. They each have their own “special” ability along with an individual story to add to the whole picture. There was more focus on the personal relationships of Finley and Griffin, as well as, Sam and Emily. These new developments did so much to enrich the story. While Jasper was in this book he wasn’t as present as he was in The Girl in the Clockwork Collar. His friend Wild Cat came to visit from America so I think we’ll see more of them both in the next book. I am especially interested to see what becomes of Mila. I hope they can find a way to add her to their patch work family. Of course Jack Dandy, in all his dark charisma, played the part of the reluctant hero. I would love to see him have his own spin off from this series. ~Hint, hint, Kady.~

When it comes to villains, I can appreciate one as diabolical as Garibaldi, a.k.a the Machinist. He is one determined mad man. A man who can terrorize while floating in a tank of goo is the epitome of evil genius. Like Emily, I wondered what happened to him that made him the way he was.

If you haven’t started reading this series, I highly recommend it. It’s full of adventure and excitement. Steampunk is vastly becoming one my favorite genres. Mostly due to this series and the imagination put into building this amazing world.

My Thoughts:

There is so much to this book. It was really well written. So much imagination and world building went into this story. It took me a while to figure out who was who and what was happening; only because for the last several books I've read the focus was on one or two characters. That's not the case in here. Each "Kin" has their own story with in the story. I liked Shelby and Max the most. Their strength and bravery really stood out to me. I liked Nick too. He was a hero to his core. The story mixes Mid eval knights, sorcery and a bit of technology into a wonderfully woven tapestry. All the different creatures were fascinating and there are even a few pictures to really help you understand what they look like. Great battle scenes through out the book keep it moving at a good pace. I think both male and female readers will enjoy this story.
I'd recommend this for 13 yrs. old and up.

When I finished my college and decided to be a stay-at-home mother, I devoured books like they were going out of production, until reading just wasn't enough. So I started to write. I've written picture books, contemporary and romantic suspense, biracial/multicultural books, and finally YA fantasy. Awakened is the first book in The Guardian Legacy series. My Thoughts on Hunted:

The story of Lil, Bran and the other Guardians just keeps getting better! Just when things were cooling down for Lil & Bran a new enemy appears. And OMG the story takes some crazy twists! I enjoyed this book as much as I did Betrayed. As I expected the ending left me searching for the date of the next book. This series is so amazing!

My Thoughts:
Oh. Wow. This book was so good! I've never read a book about Angels like this one. The world Maren Dille built is so vivid. David Ghent...you just wanted to slap him and hug him all at the same time. Can you imagine focusing your entire life, your entire existence on one event, only to find out you had just a sliver of the real truth? David is the perfect example of a beautifully tragic soul. He just couldn't seem to grasp why the one person who shouldn't care about him, did. I loved watching him transform through the entire book. I loved that Layla never gave up on him. She is the light that balances his dark. It was hard not to be just as frustrated with Heaven as David was. I just wanted someone to lay out the plan for him so he could just get a break already. But then it wouldn't have been the outstanding story it was if that happened.
I can't imagine anyone not loving the end of this book. It was quite a twist. I was left with one of those "Whoa" moments. I am so glad I was a part of this book tour.
I've already recommended this book to several people.

My Thoughts:
I loved the message this book sends. Choosing to do right over wrong will always give you more peace and "Light" in your life. Crystal was a little weak for my taste in main characters but I there were several things I loved about her. I loved that she trusted and respected her parents. I loved how she had strong convictions regarding sex and the things she wanted for her future. In the end she gives up some important things to do the right thing and that is admirable. Alec was a good side character. He and the other members of The Covenant have taken on a tough job fighting evil. Vincent is a viscous foe that will stop at nothing to get what he wants. There seems to be no trace of the human he once was. This book brings to mind what can happen when we let our inner demons control our actions.
This book can be read by readers 13 and up in my opinion.

Rebecca Lynn Talley grew up in the gorgeous seaside city of Santa Barbara, CA. She met, and married, her husband, Del, while attending Brigham Young University. She graduated from BYU with a degree in Communications. She currently lives in rural Colorado on a small ranch with a dog, too many cats to count, and a herd of goats. This YA urban fantasy is fantastic! The story grabbed me from the start and kept me enthralled until the end! I love books that keep me thinking about the characters and events and possibilities even after putting them down...Aura is one of those books! Rebecca Lynn Talley has created characters you care about in a world begging for the special gifts they possess. I love the premise of Aura and imagine I'll be enjoying many more Light vs. Demon novels in the future....at least I hope there are more to come!

I loved the clasic good VS evil in Aura. I loved that Crystal made the conscious choice to be good inspite of feelings and doubts. I also loved the idea of demons posessing somone who had made dark choices, or greedy bargains. The book is clean and well handled inspite of the serious subject matter.Well done.

Aura sucked me in from the first page. The book is intense and well-written. I loved that Crystal is innocent and makes a conscious choice to stay that way in the face of intense pressure. I would recommend Aura to young adults on up.

Wonderful, wonderful message. Probably the most solid moral message I’ve ever read in contemporary literature, but without being too heavy or feeling like a lecture. You could almost look at it like an allegory, I think, representing real life with fictional symbols. I’m trying to explain without giving anything away, and I think I’m doing a bad job. Anyway, I have four boys, but if I had a girl, I would definitely have her read it. The story is imaginative and creative, Crystal is a strong but believable heroine, caught up in high school cares and not realizing her own potential or the battle that is waged around and for her. I thought at times it was a bit predictable, and that the first half of the book drug a little. It probably could have been told quicker or perhaps made a little more interesting. But all in all, I enjoyed it. The story kept me going and the characters were sweet and compelling.

Wow! I got this book for free and LOVED it! I can't wait to read any follow up books! (There WILL be follow up books, right?) In this story Crystal is full of light, thanks to making good choices, and she has to figure out how to keep the light in the midst of high school where temptation runs rampant and where she just wants to be an average girl! I like that things never went too far, and I felt like it was very well-written, with rounded out characters!

LENI – The overhead lights fell dark for the last time as I opened the dressing room door. The back exit stood open at the end of the hall, allowing in enough light from the streetlamp outside to show my way. I inhaled slowly, cherishing the musty smell of an old theater mixed with the odor of dancers’ sweat and the fragrance of white roses. I silently said my goodbyes as my feet carried me outside.
“Thank you, Uncle Theo,” I whispered as I left the theater for the last time. Only because of him did I even have this opportunity. I couldn’t wait to tell him all about it.
A large, muscular body flew at me, swept me into his arms and twirled me around as though we were still on stage. Laughter bubbled out of my chest.
“You ready to celebrate, cara mia?” Alberto asked as he set me down.
“Celebrate that you’re finally getting rid of me?” I teased.
He clapped his hand over his heart, and his face fell into an exaggerated expression of pain. “Oh, Leni, you do not know how I will miss you and your mane.”
He swatted playfully at the bottom of my curls. He had no idea how I would miss the way he said my name, drawing out both syllables, “laaaay-kneee,” like only an Italian could do.
“But you won’t miss my heels on your toes or my arm in your face?” I said in mock disbelief.
He took my hand and danced me down the cobbled street toward the plaza at the center of town. “You are a stunning dancer, cara mia. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.” He spun me under his arm, my duffle bag banging me in the butt the whole time. “Of course, you have become much better since becoming my partner. But everyone does.”
He winked at me before dropping me into a dip. My bag slid off my shoulder and a hand darted beneath me to catch it. Alberto swung me up and around so that I came face-to-face with the most unbelievably stunning vision I’d seen my whole time in Italy. Which was saying a lot. His eyes—blue, I thought, though the light from the corner post wasn’t enough to be sure—enraptured me. He held my bag out with a small smile that hinted at dimples.
“Grazie,” I said breathlessly as I wrapped my hand around the strap of my bag. He gave me a nod almost deep enough to be a bow, his shaggy blond hair falling in his face. Then, without a word, he turned and walked away. My mouth fell open. “How rude.”
“Must be American,” Alberto said. I punched him in the arm.
“Who goes out of their way to catch a falling object and then can’t even say ‘you’re welcome’?” I asked absent-mindedly as I stared after the retreating body that rivaled Alberto’s. No, scratch that. It totally beat out Alberto’s even on his best day.
“What an ass,” Alberto muttered.
“Rude, yes, but I don’t know if I’d go that far.”
“No, I mean what an ass that man has.” He let out a low whistle.
I laughed and admired the view as well. “I can agree with that.”
“He’s going to Alonzo’s. Lucky us.”

JERIC – I flipped to the picture I’d drawn a couple of weeks ago during my search in Italy. I’d woken from a dream, one I’d been having for years, and as I had previously, I’d felt the need to sketch the girl who had me waking with a painful boner. Now that I’d met her in real life, I couldn’t deny the girl in my sketches was Leni—curly hair, exotic green eyes, full lips and breasts, her skin … as if the absolute best features of both African and European blood had been blended together and given to her. The Leni I’d just met would probably never wear the leather bra, miniskirt, and knee-high boots I’d drawn her in, but damn if she wouldn’t look hot in them. The vision came to me clearly. Too clearly. I had to place the book over my lap to hide the full-blown wood pressing against my jeans.
I needed a distraction. I needed to get her out of my head. I bought several little airline bottles of rum and dumped them in my Coke, but they weren’t enough to blur the image of Leni’s face in my mind. When the smoking hot flight attendant ran her finger over my arm then dropped a napkin with a message on my tray (“Meet me upstairs?”), I couldn’t resist. I snuck up the spiral staircase to the empty upper level and found her in the bathroom wearing nothing but heels and thigh-high stockings, tendrils of bottle-bleached hair barely hiding her fake tits. Flight attendants like this had made me a lifetime member of the mile-high club—they wanted nothing more than something to make the transatlantic flight more interesting. My perfect kind of girl.
Unfortunately, my eyes only saw Leni’s body under my hands.

My Thoughts:

This book brought to mind that verse in the Bible about sins of the father "You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me," Exodus 20:5.

Coral did an EXCEPTIONAL job capturing the violence plaguing our Mexican borders. I lived on the border for five years. My land lord, a doctor, was captured by one of the drug cartels in a case of mistaken identity. He was so lucky to make it back home with only a busted ankle and a threat to never enter Mexico again.
I loved how all the different characters' stories intertwined. I rooted for Roberta to get her "freedom" and for Duke to find some compassion. Coral illustrated how sad it is that the Cartels and gangs have such little value for human life. This book is a fantastic, pulse racing read. The characters are pragmatic and wonderfully written.
