Yes, we brought our dog along with us to China. He had to be quarantined for a week and that was stressful for all of us, but he is free and happy now. I guess he will be spending his retirement in Beijing.

I can't believe it! I now live in Beijing. I thought I had my whole life all planned out, but boy was I wrong. Leaving the U.S. was one of the scariest things my husband and I had to deal with. Fortunately, we have been very happy so far with the change of enviroment. Perhaps I will have more time updating my blog now that I no longer have a full time job.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I am ready to fill my belly. My quick stop in Italy's morning market was unforgettable. Piles and piles of gorgeous fresh fruits and veggies. I still remember the taste of nectarines I bought from there. They were simply the best.

Monaco on the other hand was quite different than any place I've visited. Filled with tropical gardens, gorgeous yachts, and sleek looking boutiques. No wonder it's always packed with tourists.

France Update

More of my travel photos from the summer.

Baby Dreams

What do babies dream of?

Marimekko Pillow

This was my first time making a pillow. It was far from perfect, but the cool print by Marimekko helped distract the eye from the flaws somewhat. The "invisible" zipper turned out to be a bit "showy" but I was too lazy to fix it so it would have to do for now.
I was like a kid in a candy store taking in everything in the room, mesmerized by all the instruments, tools, ingredient jars, and many more interesting looking things I couldn't name. It was hard to imagine the amount of work and skills required to turn a piece of wood into a violin, a viola, or a cello. The process, according to Patrick, hadn't changed since several hundred years ago. And because they are all made by hand, every piece is unique.
Yay!!! I did it! I finally took the plunge and made my first t-shirt. It took a year before I got the courage to try sewing with knit fabric. Thanks to Wendy Mullin's Sew U Home Stretch. She really made it easier for me to give it a try. And all I want to say is I wished I had done this sooner. It was sooooo much easier than I imagined. Actually, I think it's easier than sewing with woven since the stretchiness in the fabric made it very forgiving in terms of fit. The fabric was a bamboo knit from Joann's I purchased a year ago. Due to my weariness with knits I waited till now to use it. Again, totally unnecessary.

I am actually wearying this t-shirt backwards with the back to the front, but I like it better this way. I left the seams unfinished on the sleeves and zigzagged the neckline. Since it was my first try I wanted to make the process as easy as I could. Well, I am sold. You can be sure I will be making more t-shirts from now on.

Maru

Life started out not so easy for Maru as she was bred to be sold in one of those chain pet stores. Finally, a picture for the post!

About a year ago, hubby got me a white, foldaway table from IKEA to use as sewing table. It was one of the best gifts I ever received. I do all my cutting and sewing on it. It is just big enough to work on, but not too big for my tiny craft room. And the light is great since it is right in front of a window. Yes, I love my sewing area.
