Brothers and Sisters - Episode 3.07 - Script Snippet

Thanks to optimist88 from Brothers and Sisters TV for the following summary.

The episode opens with a montage of a fortune teller, Miss Clara, dispensing “advice” to Nora/Sarah/Kitty/Rebecca. The sequence intercuts between the four female characters. Specifically, Miss Clara talks to Rebecca about a “great love” entering her life; Sarah is told about a woman full of strength and ambition, but facing indecision; and Nora is warned about person who is capable of “inflicting real damage” and tearing things apart. (Hmmm, does her name begin with H and end with -olly?)

Kevin has accepted Robert’s offer to be his new communications director. We see him, Robert, and his chief of Staff (Stu) going over the day’s agenda. Kevin recommends the office release a statement opposing the anti-gay marriage ballot initiative, but Stu reminds him the Senator released a statement in opposition 4 months ago [note: the episode must take place in September or later] and doesn’t see the need to release another statement to the same effect. Kevin reminds them that it’s a states’ rights issue, California has made it legal, and now is when people are paying attention. At this point, Robert interjects that this is exactly why they hired Kevin (“to argue with us, to challenge us”) but he ultimately thinks the first statement was sufficient.

After Robert leaves, Stu tells Kevin he has to meet with a reporter who is falsely claiming that Robert and the state’s governor (who is a woman) are having an affair, and is threatening to publish a story about it. Kevin is dubious about this particular assignment, saying it wasn’t part of the job description, but Stu tells him if he wants to make a difference, he needs to take the “good” about the politics along with the “bad.” Later, we see Kevin attempting to reason with the reporter, who remains unmoved by Kevin’s denials. (The reporter has pictures of Robert and the governor entering a hotel room together.) Although Kevin notes that it has the makings of a libel suit, the reporter repeats that without hard evidence disproving the affair, he’s going public with the story.

Ryan’s father, George Lafferty, calls Nora with the news he’s having “second thoughts.” (It’s pretty clear this isn’t the first episode George has appeared in.) It appears he has already been told about Ryan’s paternity, and had decided not to say anything to his son, but the knowledge is weighing heavily on his conscience. Later, he’s meeting with Nora in person, and he notes that Ryan was devastated by Connie’s death, had a troubled past with drugs, and never quite fit in – was this the reason why? Would telling Ryan the truth possibly help him? Nora sympathetically suggests they order some comfort food and talk more inside.

Early in the episode, Rebecca is getting out from her shower when Justin’s presence startles her. He reminds he said he’d be coming over, but she replies he could stand to ring the doorbell next time. Then Justin blurts out: “I love you.” Rebecca’s all, come again? Justin says he couldn’t help. Rebecca: “Oh…thank you.” (Ouch.)

Mid-episode, Kitty is at the hospital, pacing. Finally, a surgeon bursts through the doors along with her surgical team. Kitty says, “Trish?” But Trish doesn’t respond. Then Kitty tries again: “Dr. Evans?” Trish looks back at her. (That’s all we have.)

It looks like Act 4 will feature the whole family at the Magic Manor (where Miss Clara works). Nora, the siblings, Saul, and George. Rebecca gets another reading, and is reminded she has a “great love” waiting for her. When Rebecca asks her if it’s in relation to her current boyfriend, Miss Clara is uncommittal. Meanwhile, we see Tommy telling Sarah that Justin’s pissed that he said ILY to Rebecca and her response was a tepid, “Thank you.”

Near the end of the episode, we see George in the bar at the Magic Manor and Holly approaches. She introduces herself and tells him there has been a lot of talk about him, even before tonight. George says he can imagine. Holly then confides that she could probably “shed a little light” on his predicament. Off George, intrigued…

Finally, we see the reporter pull up to Magic Manor. Kevin repeats his denial that there is no affair, but says the subject of the meeting between Robert and the governor is confidential and cannot be disclosed. Just then, Kevin’s cell phone rings. He looks thrown, and tells the reporter he has to take the call. However, he purposely leaves behind a folder for the reporter to come across. (Looks like Kevin has come up with a crafty way to bury the story.)

He's not yet been cast, but he is bringing a whole heap of new drama with him! Word is Holly (spawn of Beelzebub) gets all meddly and discovers the file on Ryan, which reveals where he lives (Bakersfield). Rebecca finds out and tells Justin who tells Nora (don't you love the constant game of telly-tag in this family?) and Nora confronts Holly, which is a major showdown that's so intense, it just might spell Emmy for Sally Field.

Sarah Whedon's post-divorce love life is looking bright.

Will McCormack and Eric Christian Olsen have joined the ABC drama "Brothers & Sisters" as recurring next season. They will play new business associates of Sarah (Rachel Griffiths), and one of them -- the show's producers wouldn't say which -- is being groomed as a potential love interest for her.

Sarah, the eldest Walker sibling, left a prestigious corporate job to spend time with her family and run Ojai Foods. She has been fighting to keep Ojai alive and salvage what's left of her failing marriage, losing the latter battle at the end of this past season.

In addition to his gig on "Brothers & Sisters," McCormack has landed a potential recurring role on ABC's untitled David Kohan/Max Mutchnick comedy pilot, about two lifelong friends and business partners (Alan Tudyk and Josh Cooke), one gay and the other straight. McCormack is playing Scott, a well-intended schmuck who wants to hire the duo to design his Web site.

The actor, who recently co-starred on FX's "Dirt," is repped by Gersh.

I'm told the Walker matriarch may be breaking ground on her own business, a foundation that raises money for families of cancer patients, while her daughter -- who ultimately leaves Ojai Foods behind -- might be a stay-at-home mom for a short period of time.

Yep. If you happen to live in Bakersfield, keep your eyes peeled for a (probably hot) guy who looks like a Walker, because sources tell me that that’s where Ryan is! ABC will launch this fall with perhaps the most stable schedule of any network in years.

As expected, Alphabet web revealed a fall 2008 lineup that looks a lot like its fall 2007 sked – and that’s by design.

Just two new series made it on the sked: A revised U.S. adaptation of hit BBC thriller “Life on Mars,” and Ashton Kutcher-produced reality skein “Opportunity Knocks.”

"We're returning our dominant core group of shows from last fall," McPherson said. "The few openings we had we've filled with the kind of quality programming viewers have come to expect from ABC, and we have a very strong bench."

Also new to ABC, as expected: "Scrubs," which bows on the Alphabet on Tuesdays at 9 pm in the winter, while the "Dancing with the Stars" results show is on hiatus. "Scrubs" will be paired with new animated half-hour "The Goode Family," from Mike Judge, John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky.

Also in midseason: The untitled Tyra Banks/Ashton Kutcher show, which will air Mondays at 8 during the "Dancing" break.

ABC went into the upfronts with most of its major freshman entries renewed for next year. What’s more, many of the Alphabet net’s pilots have yet to be shot – and ABC Entertainment prexy Steve McPherson made it clear that he wouldn’t schedule any new shows without first seeing some tape.

ABC’s decision to stick with a mostly stable sked is also recognition that the net was performing well in the fall – until the writers strike, and of course “American Idol,” halted that momentum.

Here’s how ABC’s fall sked stacks up:

That means Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday are mostly the same as last season. In the plum post- “Grey’s Anatomy” slot, the twisty time-travel storyline on “Mars” seems even more natural given the show it will temporarily replace: The twisty time-travel adventures of “Lost,” which is back in midseason.

Other returning series include "According to Jim" and ABC News' "Primetime: What Would You Do?"

Question: I really love the Justin/Rebecca chemistry on Brothers & Sisters, and I, for one, am glad she's not really a Walker. But before I get my heart set on this pairing, will the network get cold feet and nix it before it has even begun? — Kelly
Ausiello: A network getting cold feet over a controversial plotline? What makes you think that could happen, Kelly? No, seriously, I too was worried that the network and/or producers would do an about-face regarding Justin/Rebecca in light of some loud objections from fans and select members of the press. Yes, I said worried, because I actually love this story and the blockbuster material it's giving to Emily VanCamp and David Annable. Last week's episode may have been my favorite B&S ever. So it's not only shocking but disappointing to me that even the mere hint of the dreaded "I" word is enough to send folks over the edge. The fact is, J&R are not related, so people need to chillax and give this story a chance to play out. Which — I'm relieved to be able to say after screening the stellar finale — looks like it's going to happen. Greg Berlanti and his fellow exec producers — who, for my money, have handled this story with the utmost restraint and dignity — seem committed to seeing it through, even if it means they'll need an armed guard to and from work. (And bless their hearts for that.) Oh, and while we're on the subject, based on my mailbag, there's a lot more support for this story than the message boards would suggest. I'd say it's more like 60 neg, 40 pos. And after the last scene airs next week, I predict that number will flip-flop big time.

DNA don't lie, babycakes! Or at least, not in this case. But if you've heard the rumors that there is another "R" who will be coming into the family, I can tell you they are true. It's a twist that will set up loads of drama for season three—which they are already filming—and will leave poor Nora Walker sobbing at the end of season two. Also, yes, there will be a kiss between two people who haven't kissed before.

Teddy in Atlanta: Are Scotty and Kevin really getting hitched? Any more scoop on the Walker finale?
They are indeed tying the knot, and it'll be a tearjerker. But first, Dave Annable said: "There may or may not be a pseudo bachelor party, which is pretty fun. We always love those scenes when they write the brothers together—the crew hates it, because all we do is play jokes on each other all day." Sounds like heaven to me! Sources tell me that pseudo bachelor party actually will be a road trip to visit Scotty's parents in an attempt to convince them to come to the wedding...to no avail.
