Review - Burn Notice S03E06 The Hunter

After last week's slightly disappointing episode, the show certainly redeemed himself. The episode begins with Michael training with Fi and she actually hits him in the face. I'm guessing this is leading to the all-out slugfest that was in spoilers somewhere on this site. Anyways, Michael finds a yogurt basket outside his loft with a note to meet. He meets Tom Strickler who is an agent for spies, essentially a mercenary finder. Tom warns of a Ukrainian out to get Michael that is about to arrive in Miami.

Fi knows someone named Beck that does business in Russia. Mike meets him in a coffee shop where he and Beck are kidnapped by a bunch of big Russians. They break out of a van driving in the Everglades leading to a very entertaining chase through the swamp. There's a lot that goes on but basically, Mike and Beck squabble, fight each other, and fight the Russians. We learn that the guy wanting to capture Mike is a Ukrainian hardness named Chichih (that's how the show spelled it).

Fi finds clues Mike left at the coffee shop including a cell phone with a photo. She and Sam bring it to Tom who identifies them as Russians and after Fiona jabs a shotgun into his face, tells them where to find a pilot who works for them. They bring the guy to Maddie's house where she is able to extract the location from him (I wonder what Khalid Sheik Mohammed thinks about this).

Chichih shows his face after Mike owns one of the Russians, he also brings a lot of backup. Beck gets fed up and starts acting like an idiot, getting himself shot (for a master criminal you'd think he'd be smarter). Michael ends up with a knife to Chichih's neck and Fi and Sam take out the rest of the people. Beck takes them away and all is well. Michael declines Tom's offer, so I'm guessing he won't be back

This episode was awesome. There was a fun storyline, good fights, and nice dialogue. It didn't advance the main storyline though Michael did turn down a pretty big sum of money from Tom which reinforces the fact that he does it for country and not money.

Michael and Fiona somewhat gently shake down a Polish bureaucrat, KONRAD, for some information on a secret flight from Chile to Poland; Michael, Fiona and Sam help Sam find justice for Isabella Corvino, whose VP of Marketing, TIM HASTINGS, has been framed for her murder by her partner, DAMON BELMONT...

[TIM HASTINGS] Male, African American, mid 30s to early 40s. Tim is the VP of Marketing for Isabella Corvino's fashion house, and she suspects he's stealing from her. Tim is understandably panicked when he realizes he's being framed for her murder by her business partner, and he agrees to let Michael, Sam and Fiona help him out before he goes to the police with a story they may not believe. Though he manages to stay reasonably calm during his time underground, Tim panics when the planned scenario for getting him out of the country goes awry...GUEST STAR

[DAMON BELMONT] Male, Caucasian, mid 30s to early 40s, stylish, Damon is Isabella's homosexual business partner, who has secretly arranged for her murder with his lover, Rick, and cleverly framed Isabella's VP of Marketing, Tim Hastings, for the crime. Not exactly an above-board kind of guy (though he's no murderer himself), Damon doesn't bat an eye when Michael, disguised as Max, Isabella's other business partner, tells him Isabella's been smuggling heroin in the lining of their fashion garments. An opportunist who's out for the main chance, Damon is easily manipulated by "Max," and though he does find himself forced to agree to murder Rick, it's clear the thought makes him extremely anxious...GUEST STAR

[KONRAD] Male, Caucasian, 35-50 years old. POLISH, MUST HAVE AN AUTHENTIC POLISH ACCENT. He is a bureaucratic schlub who works in an office which hides Polish military intelligence. Konrad's a lonely guy who's a long way from home and in debt from a messy divorce. He seems amenable to being approached by Michael, disguised as a Russian spy, who wants him to get information on a secret charter flight from Chile to Poland; however, Konrad turns out to be a rabid Polish nationalist and avowed Russian hater who is barely prevented from shooting Michael. An over-enthusiastic patriot who's eager to do anything for his country as long as it will hurt the Russians, Konrad is very open to doing a favor for Fiona, who approaches him as a fellow Pole, and for whom he manages to get the information she and Michael need.sptv050769..GUEST STAR

Burn Notice - Casting News

Chris Vance, who's currently headlining Fox's shrink procedural Mental, is Burn Notice-bound.

Sources confirm to me exclusively that the ex-Prison Breaker has booked a four-episode arc as Gilroy, a sophisticated and ruthless former MI-6 bigwig who now oversees freelance black ops.

Translation: He's about to make life hell for one Michael Westen.

Vance will appear during the second half of Burn Notice's current third season, tentatively scheduled to air in early '10. The gig won't conflict with Vance's Mental duties since production on the drama's first (and likely only) season wrapped months ago.

Virtuality is a two-hour TV movie that was originally intended to be a TV pilot. Virtuality won't be going to series, but because it's high-quality goodness from respected show runner Ronald D. Moore, it's getting on the air as is, this Friday at 8 p.m. on Fox. We watched it this weekend, and it's good, but weird. (FYI, Ronald D. Moore has not gotten over his obsession with air locks. It does seem like a fairly awful way to die, but the galaxy needs to come up with more varied ways to kill astronauts: suffocation by space vacuum is so 2004.) And speaking of all things RDM, if you haven't seen it yet, check out this awesome Edward James Olmos-narrated trailer for the upcoming TV movie told from the Cylon perspective, Battlestar Galactica: The Plan.

Amanda in West Hollywood, Calif.: Since Katie Holmes is now performing in the finale of So You Think You Can Dance, what can we look forward to in the 100th episode?
Lil C tells us exclusively: "I'm hearing that the judges might want to have a meeting on the dance floor, so I'm going to be the first one there. I would love to take part in that." Wait, are you talking about a number where all the judges perform? Awesome. Crazy and perhaps illogical, but awesome. Callie in Larchmont, N.Y.: I love Candace Cameron Bure! What can you tell us about her part on Make It or Break It?
When we talked to Candace about her new ABC Family show, Make It or Break It, she told us about a pretty entertaining coincidence: "So my character's boyfriend on the show is named Steve Tanner (Anthony Starke), which might be a little fun for Full House fans, because there's a Tanner in Make It or Break It. It's really funny. I joined this show later, and it was already set in stone, and they couldn't change it, so we thought, 'If they keep them together, I think Summer is keeping her last name.'

Erica in Houston: Hey Kristin, I know you are a huge Friday Night Lights fan, as am I, so I thought I would give you some scoop straight from the source. This past week I ran into Taylor Kitsch getting off of his motorcycle (I know, sooo Riggins, right?) in Austin. He told me that he is fully in on FNL season four and that Tim and Billy have an awesome storyline. He also let me know that they will bring in a lot of new characters and that it should be a great season! Side note: I was in town to see the FNL casting director, and she said that casting for the new season will start mid-July and filming starts Sept. 1.

Michelle in San Jose, Calif.: I want to know about Alanis Morissette's role on Weeds. Any good?
Mary-Louise Parker tells us, "Alanis is terrific. I actually don't have much with her because most of it she's with Justin Kirk, but she was very lovely." Unfortunately, the reefer mama can't seem to shake the rocker-actress's 1996 persona: "I still have this image of her in Jagged Little Pill, but she's so well-mannered and soft-spoken, almost ladylike. It's so bizarre because I see that video in my head sometimes where she's all pissed off. It doesn't really connect." We're right there with you, girlfriend.

Jesse in Las Vegas: I've heard they might keep Alanis Morissette around on Weeds past this season. Any word yet?
MLP says of a possible Alanis return engagement: "If she doesn't get shot or taken away by vigilantes then she might be back."

Mark in Dallas: Do you know if Violet and Charlotte are coming back on Private Practice?
Good news! KaDee Strickland has confirmed her return for the third season, but it did come down to the wire. Says KaDee, "Until I got my pickup letter, I didn't think I was coming back like the rest of us. I think Amy [Brenneman] got hers; I'm sure she did. It should be an interesting thing to see what they do when we come back."

Debbie in San Diego: Any idea who Annie hit with her car on 90210?
AnnaLynne McCord tells us the 90210 cast just found out last week, and "It's really bad." Hit the comments with your guesses as to who it is or who you want it to be! As for Naomi in the upcoming second season, AnnaLynne teases, "Obviously there was a horrible ending for poor Naomi. She is over Liam, and she is over Annie. She goes through the first half of the season really trying to prove that to herself. I don't think she's really over him, but we'll see that push and pull." Speaking of Liam, Matt Lanter spills, "We're going to get into his family life a little bit more. It's 90210 so I'm sure there are going to be some new romances and some jealousy and backstabbing."

Bri in Pasadena, Calif.: Loved the Saving Grace premiere. Any scoop?
As you saw in the season premiere last week, Butch is now engaged. Bailey Chase tells us it's not going to be easy though: "Butch is looking to potentially end his bachelor ways in season three," he says. "The rest is just to protect and serve." You may also remember that Chase popped up on Castle this year as Will Sorenson. "They're trying to work out the scheduling so I can come back in the fall." However, don't expect him to be back on Ugly Betty again. "There was talk, but then when the show moved to New York it become a geographical thing, so I wouldn't see myself going back there unless they decided to come back to L.A. Becks is off with models and bottles as Biggie Smalls famously said," adds Chase.

Michelle in Los Angeles: Is Dominic Monaghan going to be on Flash Forward or what?
Unfortunately for the fans, executive producer David Goyer would not confirm the rumors that Dominic Monaghan is going to be on Flash Forward. He says he does have a Google Alert set for the show, so he reads all the rumors pouring out: "So much of the speculation is so f--king wrong, it's awesome!" Are they just trying to throw us off the scent?

Steve in Portland, Ore.: Peter Facinelli's character in Nurse Jackie is said to have sexual Tourette's syndrome. Is that even real, and does it come up again on the show?
Yes, it's real. And, yes, we love Dr. Cooper's quirk as much as the next guy, but the show uses it sparingly. It doesn't rear its funny head again until ep five, and then again in ep six. The plot thickens on Dr. Cooper as we learn he was raised by two lesbian mothers (played by Blythe Danner and Swoosie Kurtz) who show up in episode six.

Venus in Iowa: Thanks for all the good Burn Notice scoop last week. What else can you tell us?
Burn Notice show runner Matt Nix emphasized that Michael and Fiona's issues this season will be serious but will also be mostly illustrated via subtext—especially in that episode-six sparring scene. As Nix put it: "Michael and Fiona are not people who like talking about their feelings."

Lauren in San Antonio, Texas: I love the zany characters on the new show Royal Pains. Do you have any details about upcoming episodes?
Why yes we do, Lauren. The other day we chatted with actress Christine Ebersole—who plays Hank's eccentric client, Ms. Newberg—about her favorite storyline coming up in July. "I give a Bark Mitzvah to my dog. The dogs are so cute in their little yarmulkes! Hundreds of people sit poolside. The rabbi reads from the Torah, and all the guests end up ill." Hank to the rescue!

Sissy in Oklahoma City, Okla.: What can we expect from the new season of Lincoln Heights?
Russell Hornsby, who plays Eddie Sutton, tells us the family goes through some growing pains in season four: "It's time for Eddie to start letting his kids grow up," he says. "I think that's where he is at the beginning of season four, with this notion that his kids are growing and they're getting older." Nicki Michaeux (his wife, Jenn) adds, "This is the most challenging season for the kids. They are the most headstrong individuals. And they're doing all sorts of things we'll all see over the course of the season. It's just really challenging for the parents this year."

Burn Notice - Gabrielle Anwar Interview

Burn Notice (Thursdays at 9 pm/ET) is on fire, both figuratively and literally (usually thanks to Fiona's pyrotechnic work). After opening its third season with a cool 6 million viewers, the USA Network action-drama has been spying impressive demos. But will things ever combust between Michael and his onetime lady love? Gabrielle Anwar offered TVGuide.com a peek at what's to come.

TVGuide.com: That was some nifty knife-throwing Fiona demonstrated in last week's episode.
Gabrielle Anwar: [Laughs] Thank you. I fooled ya, huh? Yeah, that wasn't me. I did learn how to throw that thing, but I confess that they wouldn't let me do it if there was another human being within a mile radius.

TVGuide.com: So then what fun skills have you learned on the show? Is there anything you could pull off in a pinch? Maybe wire some C-4?
Anwar: I could probably blow something up. But I think our props master, who is quite the genius, is reluctant to give me every ingredient in the recipe, just in case I ever have a pissy moment.

TVGuide.com: Jeffrey Donovan in real life boasts some mad martial-arts skills (including a black belt in karate and six years of aikido training). Does he ever show you moves?
Anwar: When we do have a fight sequence, he shows me what to do because I have absolutely no idea what's going to happen if I, you know, flick my elbow this way or thrust my knee that way. He's been quite instrumental in my not hurting anyone!

TVGuide.com: Fiona this season seems somewhat intent on making inroads on a relationship with Michael. Is that an accurate take?
Anwar: I suppose so, yeah. She's a girl who knows what she wants and doesn't like to be crossed. She's definitely setting out to get inside his head.

TVGuide.com: In the season premiere, her "I'm glad you are alive" was terse yet seemed laden with emotion.
Anwar: Yeah, I don't think that her verbal articulation is quite as seasoned as her physical expressions. She's not one for mincing words.

TVGuide.com: Will the Michael-Fiona fans ever get more than a forehead kiss?
Anwar: I hope so! We haven't shot anything like that yet this season. But we do have some steamy moments.

TVGuide.com: Do you think there is a way to put them together and still keep things exciting?
Anwar: I don't know.... It depends on what your definition of "put them together" is. I know that in my own personal life, once something is taken for granted, no matter what it is, it loses that element of enigmatic passion. It's the nature of the beast. I can't imagine that Fiona would ever settle for a mundane lifestyle. I doubt that "Fiona settles down" would ever be in one of the episode outlines.

TVGuide.com: Moon Bloodgood's new character, Det. Paxson, was billed on-screen as "Michael's worst nightmare." Might she prove to be a thorn in Fi's side as well?
Anwar: Perhaps, and possibly as more than an obvious physical [rival]. I think it's more another element that's going to keep Michael preoccupied, and away from me. I think that if Fiona was bothered by every absolutely drop-dead, stunning, gorgeous chick that came along, she may as well just head out of Miami.

TVGuide.com: There have been some recent headlines about Burn Notice's production having troubles down in Miami. What's that all about?
Anwar: Yeah. There's some sort of political rumblings about the property that we use for our production offices and sound stage. There's a possibility that it might be torn down. I'm not sure where it's going.

TVGuide.com: Do you think the show would ever relocate and change its setting?
Anwar: For what the show is right now, I can't imagine it being anywhere else. It's a key feature. I've heard Jeffrey say in interviews that Miami is a character unto itself, and I couldn't agree more.

TVGuide.com: Plus, any place less warm wouldn't allow Fiona to wear so little.
Anwar: [Laughs] That is a very good point!

[MACK] Male, Caucasian, 50 years old. Sam's old friend and former fellow SEAL, he is fit and looks like the original Marlboro Man. He and Sam had a mysterious "dust-up" and Sam still hates his guts for what he considers a past betrayal. Now with the Houston P.D., Mack lost two men on the trail of Rincon, a notorious child predator, but the case has been closed, and Mack is still determined to see justice served. He asks Sam to help him capture Rincon, and Sam reluctantly agrees. But while they're blowing things up trying to get their man, the two men wind up mending some old fences as well...LARGE GUEST STAR.

[OMAR ENRIQUEZ] Male, Latino, 20's to early 30's. This good-looking gangbanger is the "king of the barrio," but although he dabbles in criminal activities, he's actually a benign leader who provides peace and stability in his neighborhood. Both perturbed and infuriated by Michael, who leans on him to help find a notorious child predator who has gone to ground in the area, Omar eventually joins forces with this mysterious gringo, who helps him battle a vicious gang leader that is muscling in on his turf. It's an odd liaison, a quid pro quo that ultimately benefits both men...GUEST STAR

[FELIPE VEGAS] Male, Latino, mid 30's to early 40's. This steely-eyed and ruthless gangbanger is a drug-dealing scumbag who is muscling in on Omar's territory. Insisting that Omar pay him regular "protection," Vegas is the man protecting notorious child predator, Rincon, a former drug partner.
