WOW.

I just saw the show today on a cable channel (I am disturbed about the types of shows out there now - where will it end?). But this one? I remember watching some talk/news/reality segment on a young college female student with all her "apocalyptic" gear and "plans". Visually, not your typical militia looking co-ed; normal, cute, fit. But all I could think was... "I don't want to live in her world." How can any of these people have dreams, much less "the American dream" with such thoughts of devastation, fight for survival, and living on the planet in bunkers with the "flight or fight" mentality???

I don't know where they get it from. Some guy in NY is worried and fortifying his tiny NY apartment from the Wyoming State Yellowstone Volcano ? Watching the excerpt of him retrieving a food supply from 3 blocks away fully suited for warfare scenario; he's lucky he didn't get shot on the way- HE was scary !!! AND... his defense for his front door was Charles Bronson-like: broken glass thrown out and down the hallway in front of his door? Are we all of a sudden bare foot? WTH ???

IF a major war happens... do you really think being in an underground bunker will save you from the fallout? No matter how well you plan it out - even Washington can't survive forever, and they have all the money. And I am flabbergasted that I even know now that one of those billions of containers from China only cost $2500.00 each ?? And they are building an apartment building here in Detroit out of them... nice to know a base price.

The most disturbing part to me are the children (one wife had her face blurred out, what does that say?). How do you enjoy childhood and all that it offers when your parents are constantly talking/drilling/worried about an impending doomsday? This isn't MadMax times !!! Two touched me the most... First, the man that moved his family to, um, Costa Rica? Then made his very young daughter (4-ish) watch him slice a chickens neck, after prayer, of course. Though, my best bet would say the last time she ate chicken was at a KFC. That's BS, Dad.
Next came the hung-ho Dad with the wifes' blurred face (definitely not on board) and his two young boys that have weekends taken up by Daddy's obsession. THEN... I get to ROTFLMMFAO.

REAL.

First and foremost... laughing my mother fucking ass off... no acronyms... this pussy passed out over a knuckle. WHY weren't the kids well trained in first aid? The damn camera crew had to save you and your thumb in a heli .... AND... they said "get the kids out of here". What the hell do you think they are going to see when you have them aiming at red and blue fucking balloons representing good and bad people, you fucking idiot? And you passed out; didn't suck it up, didn't tell your boys to be strong (oh, that's right, you couldn't). Big tough guy. Funny banter around your huge kitchen table... months of rehab.... Do you really think that's what's gonna happen when shit hits the fan? OH... NOW you have the mega of all mega first aid bags. Good luck with that. This will definitely be one of my You-Tube favs of all time.

Where/when will this crap stop? As individuals we can vote, protest and make our voices heard in a smart way. To me; these are extremists, like any other you can compare them to; whether streamline haters, religious freaks, bible-thumpers, the list can go on... right/left wingers, separatists , independents... I won't see the shit stop in my life time. And I highly doubt it'll stop in my sons'. I am not religious... but those of you claiming to do it in GODS' name - will burn in what I think is hell. A hell of your own making... digging a hole to keep others out, shooting them (who determines who is the red/blue balloon) and so on. Extremists of all walks of life should be ware... only the true pure of heart will prevail... not based on ammunition, religion, or bunker hoarders. If anything, I do remember hearing "The meek shall inherit the Earth." I interpret that as "meek does not equal weak" and you will be so busy for a "throne" the peaceful will rise to the top. BOOOYAAAAA!!!

Final thoughts.... this song is NOT only about moms... it's about ALL of us. Be somebody's FAN. Stand up and do the right thing, neighbor, stranger, co-worker, mailman, anyone that is being targeted as an underdog... be the SuperHero, no matter how small. Don't be a downer-doomer... there are good people in this world, down the street, local grocery store, neighborhood cafe, in the parking lot, pass it forward when you can, no matter how small; cause you never know how big it might mean!!

Pissed Peeves…Detroit, Cancer, Drugs, etc...

I am sure there are alot of people irritated by alot of things in this world but for now I am going to focus on some of the smaller areas. Meaning: I don't want to argue about world peace, poverty, or healthcare, in the whole wide world. When they say "it takes only one person to make a difference" ??

I first thought of writing about this when Angelina Jolie came out about her "cancer" scare ?? How scary is it when you can afford to get a test done that isn't even available to the general public, i.e. poor, because of a family history ?? THEN be able to afford the reconstructive surgery to show off on the red carpet? Really ?? She's adpoted 3 kids from foreign countries and given birth twice in France…. how American is that ?? Talk about buying American… why do people salute these mega-million "stars" for stepping out on OUR country ?? And sorry, Brad, you are a part of it. Regardless of your "cameo" in "12 Days A Slave".

I know Detroit is trying, very much, to help their persona. But if they keep men like this on the payroll? Not much of a chance. People judge more than judges do (and they have had their bouts of doubts in that arena also!!). I wonder what the message is when they elect a white man when a black man is in charge (emergency manager). As much as Quicken Loans and the rest of the big bucks try… they are in it just for the money. I just hope the little people get in & out ASAP and take their business elsewhere and prosper.

Watch "Dallas Buyers Club" and it shows you how the government and pharmacy divisions choose $$ over life. (Another topic.) But don't forget what it means… you could be next.

BULLYING

I wrote on this subject once before (click on above link) because it is something I think will never go away. Just like racism. Because all parties involved must take responsibility for their own actions involved in every situation. HATE it and remember telling my son when he was younger two things: Tell me or report it to the school if it happens & don't ever let me catch you being a bully - hell to pay. Seriously. Read the link to read more about THAT point.

I don't watch "reality" tv series because they're just disgusting. But I do enjoy American Pickers and the respect they show to the people they are trying to buy from or just to hear a story. I also watch some of the other similar shows about flea markets, thrift stores and pawners. Here comes the problem with that form of tv. Pawn Stars of Vegas ?? (No, I will not add a link to them.) They do nothing but put each other down; harassment and degradation is rampant… then I see a preview of a show with grade school aged children on a "field trip" also allowed (and surely encouraged) to put "Chumlee" down ??? This is entertainment? This was my breaking point actually. How can schools fight this when it is glorified on the screen. There are probably worse 'reality' shows out there (HONEY-BOO-BOO, THE TIARA CRAP, HOUSEWIVES FROM ANYWHERE, TAKE YOUR PICK) and you should react, this is just one of my personal pet peeves.

Just A Quick Pest Note...

... though these pests can't read or hear or sense danger. NO bugs are allowed in THIS house. I won't step on an ant outside, but any insect inside the walls of my house are fair game !! EGAD !! (love that word) And to think I allowed my son to have a "pet spider" for an evening 13 years ago... in a jar... in the house... over night --- still sends chills up my spine. It's ancestors are probably still here LOL But, I have to admit, it was cool, sorta. It carried the dreaded white sac on her back -- acckkkk. STILL can't believe I allowed it. (Just proves how spoiled he was.) HA

... I really don't know when or how this phobia started and, frankly, don't care ! I don't budge on this at all... I want the perimeter of my house sprayed, basement, every room... and garage and I always have a can of wasp killer handy. Plus the the trusty flyswatter at hand - for any bug - flying or not.

... I am getting to a very important point, so bear with me...

Here I sit watching a HUGE (and I mean, HUGE !!) centipede on my wall just past this desk I am typing at... ACCKKKKK and he/she is on the move. (Just disappeared behind a picture frame.) Now down the wall..."

Damn it. Don't like them, don't find them "interesting" - just not as bothersome as SPIDERS.

So I tolerate them, depending on the proximity and such.

(If found in the bathtub? BOILED DOWN THE DRAIN.)

I hate bees, hornets, wasps, and gnats (lol), okay that is a joke - they only annoy- not bite. But my worst paranoia is ----> spiders. Of any shape or form - even the aluminum tiny jumping MF-ers !!

Gives me the friggin' willies !!!

I don't care that they kill other "bad" bugs... nothing will convince me unless they can cure cancer.

PERIOD.

Loved my old dog.... he would go into my lack-luster ancient garage and actually EAT spiders out of their webs before I walked in !! That's my boy !! Sorry, gross but way too cool for a woman that hates eight legged fiends !!!

Now... a few weeks later, I can't say that I am happy because I haven't seen any inside dwellers. They are creepy sneaky little biotches and I am always looking up at the ceilings for nonconformers LOL

My husband (I am being formal because he deserves it at this point) does grab a paper towel or such to "save" me from these ferocious fiends when they come out of hiding and into my view. BUT... he also tells them to run and hide if I don't see them - so he DOESN'T have to smoosh them. Rarely do they hear him... (refer to intro)

Here is my lesson to anyone else that detests these intruders... find out which pest freaks out your significant other the most and swear you saw the biggest, baddest mf-er crawling up the wall, next to HIS picture... and "he will fumigate the house" !! Job done.

Well, almost well done - of course, he did the computer room (where I did, indeed, watch the very adult, full grown centipede walk across the wall) and the basement, hmmmm... I need to make up some sightings - because I really don't want to see them at all.

He leaves the porch light on for me since I am on the afternoon shift - glad I didn't notice til I got INSIDE, but the porch was swarming with some kind of beetles. So I left the master door open and tortured the cats with hopes of catching something.........

Are there things on a day to day basis that just piss you off ? I think we all have pet peeves but come the morning (as I am NOT a morning person) shit just irks me...

... like the morning radio show hostess that is fat and obnoxious yet is passed off as entertainment when she's really a bully. Didn't say what she felt until Florine of Weight Watchers was off the air. I am still filling my arsenal of e-mails to throw at the cow. (Typically I would not be so rude - but you get what you give.) "Oh, but she can hang up on me... Wimp."

MEET An Amazing...

I met this woman over the airwaves of a cell phone and mostly listened to her. You can learn alot by listening. I had been told some of the background in bits and pieces over time. Young and stubborn, as we all can be at the age of sixteen, but in love. The parents that will try anything to keep you close and safe. Brought you back from miles away just to watch you leave again, against their better judgement. Hindsight is 20/20 but looking from the outside in? It's a different view. I saw a strong girl following her heart and perhaps running away from something, but who decides her choice is right or wrong? I believe the ends justify the means.

How can anyone say she made a wrong choice when she has three wonderful children, a loving husband and a blessed home? And this has been years since she "ran away". I don't know that many young marriages could have weathered the storms this young couple went and are going through: it humbles me. Different 'homes' all made special by the wife and mother. I do not mean to take away from the four other people involved in this family- husband, daughter and two sons. They also sacrificed to help the whole of the household. Children learned early on that physical aide around the house was not only requested but necessary for the good of all. Those of us without limited motion and spoiled heirs may not get this. I was most surprised by the lack of resentment from those very kids that were asked to do so much. They are polite, well-behaved and humorous. Having some history knowledge, I think this woman knew what she was taught and decided to change the legacy. I applaud her for that, more from my own experience than the information I have.

I can't give every little detail to help you comprehend the situation... she's had at least three back surgeries, her husband had his first recently, no money coming in, rent to pay for a trailer on the father-in-law's property, growing teenagers, the list goes on and on...

But, what you really need to know is the heart of this woman...

AMAZING... Though she is in one of the toughest times of her/their lives... she has the time and consideration to listen to other peoples problems... in such a way you would not know she's in need. You become the star, main topic and she focuses on you with calm resolve, logic and objectivity, a calmness that belies her age and you will walk away lifted and optimistic... even though she is 500 miles away !!

Just want to point out that this girl welcomed me into her family with open arms, talked to me near and far, e-mailed me and has indeed been my friend in spirit- we both love the same man...

I started this post on July 21st. It is now December 29th, same year. I don't think we are desensitized from violence, we just hope in ignorance - that it doesn't touch us.

My biggest fear when my son was small; crossing the street - but also a wacko scooping him up and out of my safety net. But , never ever ever did I worry about a lunatic entering our elementary school with ANY type of gun.

So stop arguing about semi-auto / full-auto or ten pistols with rounds galore... Save the unprotected from the idiots of this world... and it's not just this country. Killing is rampant all over this globe !!!

The two do go together at a baby shower...

My husbands' granddaughter is expecting a boy in December. Nobody thinks she will make it that long and I said, "Hey, shoot for the 20th." She said, "25th". I said, "No."... and either way the Christmas baby eventually hears....

"this is for Christmas and your birthday."

I got lucky with my boy... born in January when all the toys go on sale ?? Rock on !!! See, I made sure Mom gave him a bigger and better Christmas than Santa.

Whatever the date, she's a young mother with a long road ahead of her but also with a large support system gathered around. And I just wanted to add a personal touch where I could, regardless of how small...

I saw this initially on *Pinterest* as some fancy dancy concoction (no disrespect to the inventor) but the basics were made for playing with. I like simple and quick, and to the point, and easy and fast, and assembly-line *Ford-like. LOL In other words ? If I ain't making money, I can lose interest fast. Just keep me occupied with imagination...

I tested it with plastic soup spoons with peanut butter dipped in chocolate - always thinking; bigger is better ! ? After running that by the old man, two poker players, and colleagues at work ? Too much peanut butter not enough substance. Now roll in the idea maker, toiler, and that guy/gal that is paid to shoot down your ideas?

First trial....

Yeah, me. LOL I don't eat it, I just make it and wait and listen. (Toiler must have came from the time of year - *Halloween.) Then the light bulb goes off (the environmentally good one) and says, "I have seen colored spoons (is that even right?) and chose BLUE (given the election year or college teams ... is THAT even right?). Thought about using blue (white) chocolate but had too much milk cocoa left (saving moola)... and instead invested in mini *M&M's to mix with the peanut butter (which brand shall not be named).

*NOTE these companies should be paying me for adverts.

Anyway, congrats to the young couple with the X-mas baby on the way... and here's what I brought to the shower.

I called them "Baby Boy Rattles" and they are very easy to make and would imagine easily changed to fit the party of the hour, as long as people like chocolate ?

There are too many people in this world who know you personally and could "WHY" you to eternity.... but show yourself in a physical form and face me....

... and I will put aside all my anger and only ask this:

"How do we abolish you, in every sneaky evil way you exist, from the face of this planet?"

You wonder why I don't ask for all the cures? I have seen the havoc it brings and how quality of life is lost.

Hospice is best used for comfort after a happy life, long lived and passing with grace.

So you see, CANCER, it would be best that we had never met you at all.

Bless all that have fought and won the war and more to the families left behind having watched a losing battle.

I write this in anger as yet another good woman will be struck down by this insatiable demon. Hearing the worst, "There's nothing we can do for you." That equates to being full of cancer - spread throughout the body.

A friend and coworker, Vicky, has alot of people shedding tears over our impending loss. She has always been the one there for any and every one in need. Thoughtful, kind, generous - and I'd like her to know that NOW, before she leaves us. Thank you, Vicky, for being such a kind and gentle soul. Forever in our memories.

Animals.... at the ZOO

We all love the animals we get to see at the zoo. Such an array; elephants, jelly fish, cheetahs, birds, reptiles, giraffes, our bald eagle, bears, apes, meerkats, and so on...

*OUR LITTLE TRIP*

I always go with an expected sense of awe and yet with a very sad feeling because they are wild animals and no matter how much an institution cares and provides, it's still not their home. I hope they are happy with their surroundings and accommodations and some of them put on such a show that maybe I am wrong and they don't have a clue about where they are. Sometimes, I like to think we are the show for them; "Look at these funny looking creatures standing here watching me swing from rope to rope, just waiting for me to give them a thrill!".

This big ole boy walked straight from a corner to sit directly in front of me, I could only wonder what he was thinking, looking into his deep brown eyes. A majestic being, behind glass, looking at me as if asking, "What?" It was awesome having him so close, eye to eye... and his hand holding the column -->>

My husband, who is by no means a small man, didn't even compete! While I enjoyed this primates' patience of all of us funny people staring, chatting and picture taking, I was more astounded by the young college girl calling him a her... finally I could take no more. "He's a silverback, he runs the place," I said. Her friend peered through the glass, "Yeah, her back is silver." REALLY? I had to leave after that, I have no idea what he did, but I hope he walked away, too.

Is he a LIONS fan ???

That was the closest I came to one of these amazing animals but they all shined on a cool day in May. This day it was the Toledo Zoo, but it could be any zoo, any where. Watching The Animal Planet channel or The Discovery Channel helps to educate, but going there is money put to good use. The Bald Eagles in the slide show are rescues -> and cannot be returned to the wild, one is missing his/her left eye. So I can only hope all these animals are here for a reason, to be saved and/or to inspire us to save them.

We had a good time, and the animals were on the move since the weather was cooler, always a good thing for both spectators. So wherever you are, take an interest and do what you can to help. We took D's dad to The Detroit Zoo before we lost him. And we feed the neighborhood birds... D hates one video-->> BIRDS And we have three cats we adopted from a local rescue shelter (no kill), Shelter to Home.

Grilling Season and My Man

The summer heat is here along with the smell of charcoal burning and backyard fire pits... mm mm My husband has grilled us up a few meals already; brats, italian sausage, hot dogs, burgers, steaks, etc. He even did his first corn on the cob in the husks this Memorial Day.

A special shout out to our veterans of all wars and ages -->> more thanks than you would ever know or we could ever share. I always wonder about the businesses offering a "special" to them on a particular day (Wednesday Military Day?) EVERY day should wield them a special offer !! You deserve so much more and again, I humbly thank you for your service to our country.

I started writing this to tell you about, basically, an info-mercial product. We thought it was a birthday joke type deal, at least until the hubby tried it. He was hooked on the first use, though you will need a proper "shield".

The Grill Daddy

It's simplicity makes you laugh at first. Water, bristles, and a handle.... what do they offer ? A very clean grill, but with one hazard -->>

STEAM

I don't do anything with the grill, but I know the old man likes this toy and that it helps him more than anything he's ever had. So I asked him if I could 'capture' him doing his manly thing of preparing his cooking space... as I am usually in the house prepping other parts of the meal.

This is him; protected...

It works with the heat from the grill, with the water, causing steam to loosen burned on particles and cleaning the grates, but he has a welders' glove on to beat the heat, otherwise your hand might fry as much as the food. Simple and easy.

I haven't looked into it yet but I think you can buy replacement brushes, but if it's a 10 or 20 dollar item? I might just get him a new one for Father's Day. He's come a long way in his adventures of grilling and I will help to encourage him along the way - and I don't have to do dishes. (Always a plus.)

I heard about this book as a recommendation from Bobby Thomas from the TODAY show. In an earlier post about nothing to do with reading, (Simply Adele), I clamored on about a variety of popular books out recently and they are entertaining in their own genre (always wanted to use that word in a sentence and not just read it in a crossword puzzle!). This is my review of a real book, not one for entertainment.

It has fifteen chapters and though you might think they don't pertain to you; they all offer something to learn. One of the best parts that hit me was about a dog, yes, your family pet. An excerpt from De Becker's book-->>

Yes, I tore out pages and scanned them (not just to save my typing skills) but to let you see it in black and white his engaging writing.

I had a similar situation with my big over-bearing dog; thought he knew "how to behave" when a particular person visited. I was thinking, "Wow, he knows this person can be mean and expects everyone to be on their best behavior." When in reality he stayed calm to reassure me. Amazing to think back and see it for what it really meant.

It's intriguing even when it is hard to read the bad things that happen, yet how he unravels the so called mystery to why people survive ?? Remember, you never hear about these stories and he explains the sensationalism of the media and what should be buried or the perpetrators in them exposed as the cowards they are:

Simply, let me tell you what it has done for me, besides inspire a post on a blog...

I suffer from panic/anxiety attacks that I have prescribed mild medication for, that I use when I know an event is going to cause a reaction; a long freeway trip, large crowds, and such. They are not always predictable because they can hit out of no where, for no reason and can feel paralyzing.

I don't think I can explain it in the right terms, feelings or thoughts, but I believe everyone should read it - even more women. Including the media - and step up the way they portray their "breaking story" and help the masses, instead of their ratings.

I have gone over this book a few times to keep the words alive and a continuing lesson. I can tell you, it was like sighing a breath of relief or an "aha" moment as I read parts. It may not be "Mommy Porn" but it may help alot of mommies out there worry less about everything under the sun; and that's PRICELESS.

We ponder about the violence in our cities, the disregard of life, the so-called impact of video games, but you dress your very own innocent baby in black and white stripes, place him/her in front of a lion cage, video tape it, and upload it with sound ?? And it's suppose is to be funny?

Keep laughing you sicko. I am disgusted. Why don't you all don a freaking zebra suit, and when they break through ?

What is an Alpaca ??

I had no clue other than the fact most people wouldn't know the difference between it and a llama, present company included. While planning our vacation for this week I came across an article of sorts about the Gibralter Bay Alpacas in The News Hearld. So our first excursion of the pre-week (they are closed Monday and Tuesday) was off to visit these animals. The lady in the article was there and quickly introduced us to the owner. He was so helpful with information and went beyond anything we could have ever expected. (Sorry, I am terrible with names !!)
They are amazing animals, and I am sorry to say... the way they keep their messes in one place ?? Seriously... thought they were trained. But the owner explained how they use the top of a hill for drain off purposes so as not to cause a cess pool. Really? The picture in the slide show isn't too revealing but you'll get the point.

They are herd animals and have a pecking order, females are separated from males at all times until breeding season, they spit on you - though we were lucky enough not to have experienced that, they can top 50 miles an hour, can see 350 degrees (but I got to pet one receptive cutie), they have sandy areas to roll in (like my cats rolling on the driveway? sorta), and hills that the pecking order is played out on (of course, the males are more inclined to rough it out than the girls).... oh, I know this doesn't cover the least of what he told us !!

Hubby petting TROOPER

This little guy was a sweetheart to meet. We walked up and as directed earlier in the day placed our hands on rails. As soon as TROOPER smelled our hands we were asked if we were smokers ?
HUH?
Guess TROOPER likes the smell of nicotine... (he followed us along the fence line)... his soft nose and curiosity were a joy to behold, although peculiar. I was so enthralled with it all that I didn't need a cigarette while in the presence of them all. We did get to meet a pregnant alpaca gal and watch the baby move (no matter what the species) it's an amazing experience. (also in photos - 3 or 4 of them) Grey and white sweetie.
They get different "haircuts" - I compare it to poodles. It's free to visit, donations welcome but not forced, and a gift shop to visit - I bought a pair of socks and a T-shirt ; not an alpaca. But I would go again in a heartbeat.

They are also abutt the Grosse Ile Airport and we watched someone fly their first solo take-off and landing (a few times) and listened to the stories of this amazing owner who takes the time out for a young lady that needs help strolling with an alpaca - animal therapy - and all full of human kindness. If we could all pass it forward half as much? We'd be good.

MOM is more than a three letter word...

I thought it would be interesting to read about all our Mothers. As in, we, as a blended family. So I am writing about my mother as the author of the blog, and my husband is contributing about his mother (that I never got to meet), his daughter is writing about his late wife, her mother. And I have recruited my Greatest Uncle to contribute his words about my Grandma, his mom. And thank you for including my Aunt Cathy's mother, Winnie, so sorry not to have met either. And my son, Frank, has also agreed to scratch something down about me. Thank you all for your loving thoughts and your time to contribute; a hard yet good deed.

REMEMBERING

My Mother, Joanne

She wasn't in the armed forces, she didn't start a charity to help those in need, she didn't invent any thing - but she did raise three children on her own, sometimes working 2 and 3 jobs. She wasn't college educated; she borrowed money from her step-father to attend a trade school. I don't know all the jobs she held to support us, or how she spoiled us with so little.

My mom wasn't materialistic. She was always smart about her money; a roof over your head, food on the table and bills paid (rob Peter to pay Paul, if need be) all came first. She taught me how important credit was (your word) and not to abuse it. Which taught me a great many things and so much more and these only touch the tip of the iceberg; respect, loyalty, independence, freedom of opinion, strength and resilience.
I lost my mom in an instant - a morning I will never forget. Cold on my living room floor. I am so glad we made a pact never to go sleep mad at each other. A lesson well learned. Above all those other 'things' she taught me - unconditional love - given and received, and passed on. " I miss you, Mom."

I know that every man out there is going to say that his mom is/was the best Mom in the world. But, mine really was. I have so many memories of my mom, I could write a book about one awesome lady.

The sweet smell of flowers, the cards that held the words I hardly ever spoke, the days I wish I could have embraced more tenderly. All those days that I gave my mother a hug half-hearted. The holidays that your father picked out something and you just signed your name. The knowing smile and warm hugs received, yeah, those are the memories that stand clear in my mind.

Then as the years progressed, well, the presents became more real, as did the thought. I remember buying my mother an ankle bracelet, those seemed to be a thing that really brought a smile to her face. On Mother’s Day, there always seemed to be an air of something…different. They appeared to be lighter and full of music, if that makes any sense. It was a rare moment in time when everyone wasn’t fighting, no arguing; there was just a calm peace that settled over everything.

I can’t really say that as a teenager, that I didn’t take those moments for granted, of course I did. Now that I’m an adult, I think back to those moments…I relive them with a sense of…fondness. I never had to think about growing up and seeing my mother wilt away.

Younger days

At a young age I left, my mother and I didn’t speak very much until I was a mother myself. It occurred to me then; you never fully understand and realize the bond that is created between a mother and a child, until you experience it yourself. Mother’s Day is a national holiday for a reason.

I hold no regrets nor no ill will. At sixteen, I thought I hated my mother, of course, isn’t that how all teens feel? Now I can relate to the things she went through, and it makes me respect her more than I ever did growing up.

As the years went by, before the end, my mother and I grew close to one another. We talked all the time on the phone, and as I had problems with my children, she was there to help me in my time of need.

Advice and encouragement, she was my voice of reason when I doubted myself, the one person in the world that I knew would be there for me when ever I needed her. I truly believe that she was what got me through the long days, hearing her voice; though she was states away. It gave me a new insight on all the things she went through, with my brothers and sisters when we were growing up. As I grew, so did my love for the woman that borne me.

There shall never be enough words in the human language to describe her, even if there were, I could never put them to use. My mother was a creature of boldness, one that captivated your interest, then made you smirk in humor. She was a woman that had many talents, and was always there for those that needed her, even when I had no understanding of why she did what she did. I simply went on with life. I loved my mother then and I still love her now.

I want to dedicate for my mother, whom though I might have resented during childhood, I grew to love, respect, and treasure as I grew up and became a mother myself.

Mother’s Day! We have all been raised on how to celebrate this very special holiday by doing things for and with our moms in recognition of the sacrifices and efforts they made for us during our growing years so that we could pay it forward to our children. But, sadly, for those of us who have lost our mothers there are no guidelines on how we can continue to honor them on this special day.

However, I was recently informed by my wonderful niece, Lora, that she was preparing a tribute to moms on her blog and asked if we would like to contribute some photos and memories. I think this is a great idea and my sincere hope is that it will catch on in the social medias and encourage more people to continue honoring their moms.

We would like to pay tribute to 3 moms no longer with us. First is my sister Joanne (Lora’s mom), 2^nd is my mother-in-law Winnifred (Nana), my wife’s mom, and 3^rd is Marie, my mom.

Lora and Joanne, and my Uncle will pay for this.

My sister grew up with 3 brothers and had to get tough early on in life. Little did she know at the time, it provided the strength and tenacity she would need to draw from for the rest of her life. It seemed that her life was filled with one struggle after another. There were several failed relationships. She worked but always had trouble making ends meet. She tried very hard to provide for her children. As I look back on her life I am glad that she had at least 2 happy times, one was her marriage to Lora’s father and the other was the relationship she shared with Lora. Throughout all her trials she always managed to remain my tough big sister that I grew up with and loved. I always felt and know in my heart that she deserved a better life with more happiness. So Sis, know that you are missed and still loved on this and every Mother’s Day.

Winnie

Next is my mother-in-law, Winnie (Nana). If you were to look up the word “sweetheart” in the dictionary, I am sure one of the definitions would be “Winnie”. After being around her for several years and learning about her life, all I can say is “what an amazing woman”. She was plagued with severe anxiety her whole life. She also had a long stretch of severe migraines, but still managed to force herself to do things for and with her daughters. She made the girls dresses and did things her daughters asked of her even though they were way outside of her comfort zone. I spent quite a bit of time with her during her last 8-10 years and never heard her say a bad word about anyone or complain about her personal problems. She seemed so content with what life had dealt her. During her last few years, she cherished the time she got to spend with her great grandchildren. Winnie always went above and beyond for others and this trait is reflected in my wife, Cathy. Winnie, we hope you are content and happy on this Mother’s Day and we thank you everyday for the blessings you gave us. You will remain in our hearts forever.

Mom & Dad

The last tribute is to my mom, Marie. She was a strong, fair, and loving woman with old school values when it came to raising children. I am the last of 4 children and was the last to learn just how strong she had to be. Shortly after I turned 2 she lost her soul mate to a car accident and though she never got over it she hid it very well and began the difficult task of raising us.

She took care of us while teaching us the responsibilities of what it means to be a family and help out around the house. Through the years our family suffered many strained relationships, but she always tried her best to hold us together. She always stood her ground and not only demanded respect but got is as well. She continually encouraged us in whatever we tried to do and I remember to this day how I wanted to please her and make her proud.

So on this Mother’s Day and for each that follows I want to thank you for your hard work, your love and support, and instilling your values onto me that have served me well. If there were such a thing as a do over, I wish I could have spent more time with you during your later years. I hope you have joined with Dad and have the happiness you so richly deserve.

Happy Mother’s Day to each of these very special moms and for those of you still fortunate enough to have your mothers living? Don’t wait to cherish them when they are gone – do it now – you’ll be glad you did!

A while ago my mom asked me to write something about her, so I figured this would make as good a Mother's Day present as anything else I could think of. I've never been one that has an easy time writing, and no amount of words could describe all the things she's done for me throughout my life but I'll give it a shot. No matter what it is in life that I've wanted to do she's always supported it and helped me any way she could, even when I wanted to have a LAN party tournament for my birthday parties. She set it up and made sure everything went smoothly, I don't know how she does it but she never disappoints. There's a million more examples of her going out of her way to help me but I don't want to take up too much space and time with this. There's no way I could ever repay her for everything she's done (and continues to do) for me, but at least I can let her know how much I appreciate all of it with this. The biggest reason I can't wait to start my career isn't so I can have my own place, it isn't so I can have a bunch of money for myself, it's so I can start saving up to make sure my mom's taken care of for all the years she's taken care of me. Happy Mother's Day to the greatest mom I could ask for.

INTERVIEW

She is a refreshing piece of work. Love her music, but even more so her attitude. One word can explain who and what she is:

AWESOME.

I was headed to work before her interview with Matt Lauer was going to air ... I hit the record button on the way. Her songs/music are not dark or sad - it is healing. I bought the only two Cd's she has out, and the "in concert" DVD from London.

AWESOME.

I am rarely impressed with celebrities, no matter what their mantra. But she is a pleasant surprise, and so beautiful in her realness. I hope she never loses it, which is so easy to do.

I refuse to watch an Eddie Murphy movie after his German Shepard dog line saying A$$ in front of children in a movie theater (not in the commercials promoting it) or Tom Cruise movies after he jumped on Oprah's couch - a little too over the top for me, even leaving out the Scientology.

I think we all do this to an extent... draw a line, and there are many examples out there. But even in real time; real life - we have to make that choice. What's good for us and what brings us down?

I recently purchased and read a book suggested by Bobby Thomas. I am going to read it for the second time and highlight what I need to remember. It was so enlightening. And after my re-read... I will post my thoughts. Adele is a far shout from this commentary but somehow it all works together for me and it could for you.

I am reading this book again "The Gift of Fear". I am also reading "Fifty Shades of Darkness" and a third "The Girl Who Plays With Fire". Everyone knows about the blowout "Mommy Porn Trilogy" and the "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" series.

As interesting as the latter two can be? The first intrigues me more so. Because it can save your life...

Mommy Porn ?

Sorry, No Illustrations !

Heard some hoopla about it, wrote the title down and promptly forgot about it. That's pretty typical of me even though I am a big fan of lists; not so much a post-it note person.

Then I heard some more hoopla and missed the interview of the author on the show. Only caught a tidbit - saying something to the effect, "I'm not a very good writer."

Favorite Morning Show

That made me curious and motivated. Directly after work I had Dennis drive me to our local bookstore, The Book Nook. Previous trips to the larger retail/department stores had failed to turn up a copy. The Nook had sold out but were expecting a shipment and I could leave my name and number to be called when my copy arrived. I ordered a second book (featured by Today Show's Bobbie Thomas "The Gift of Fear") and it felt good spending money at a local up close and personal store.

I devoured it in two days.

And I have two explanations as to why:

Easy read; she is obviously a better writer than she gives herself credit for. Hearing the subject being called "Mommy Porn" had me laughing out loud. I always thought it was called erotica.

I have always wondered if I could compose such reading material because some of what I have read was more "Hustler" than "Playboy" if you know what I mean. I think E. L. James did a wonderful job of keeping it nice, classy and not vulgar. I bought and downloaded the rest of the trilogy to my IMAC, android tablet, and Kindle - one always within reach. But, boy, did it feel good to curl up on the couch and hold a real book in my hands.

Amazing Muffin Cups

It's not very often I see a recipe in the coupons and find it appealing to try at least for a first time. Plus I am a picky eater and more times than not some of the ingredients are icky. This sounded right up my alley, or oven as it would be.

Dennis likes to call them birds nests. There really is no end to what you could do with these little beauties ! I took samples to work and everyone asked for the recipe. It might seem a bit tedious but like the picture above - you can order eggs, sausage and hash browns all day long at a restaurant. These are nice to make in advance to take to work. (They microwave very well.) I think next time we will have some good old Bob Evans sausage gravy over them.

Dennis likes french toast with peanut butter and syrup. I think it's an assault to the palate at that time of the morning, like eating a big plate of Reese cups ! And a couple times we have gone to our restaurant they were out. He swore we would walk out if that was the case, they were and he pouted over his biscuits and gravy. Now we have solved that problem by getting those single serve Jiffy cups. As long as we remember to take them.

Twice my son terrified me - or should I say I did it to myself for not keeping a closer eye on him. But I never believed in leashing a child like an the family pet.

The first time was in a small party store, I turned away and in an instant he was gone. He thought it was funny to play hide and seek. His diapered little butt didn't think so when I found him two aisles away. The few patrons might have wanted to say something to me, but probably recognised the panic in my eyes, more so than any malice.

Police were called on this only other instance. He was only three and a half, outside playing with somewhat older kids, maybe in the 5 to 7 year-old range.

We lived in one of those apartment complexes where the main entry way to the individual doors is locked. We were on the ground floor which offered a patio sliding door for easy access to the grassy yard, and for me to slip in and out while keeping an eye on them. Well, I don't remember what I did, I just know it took long because when I went back outside - ALL the kids were gone! Including MINE! Pure panic - there wasn't a soul around to ask if they'd seen anything. I called the police and was torn between waiting for them at the apartment or running out the door to search for my little boy ! I met my dilemma half way and stood out in the yard shooting out his name, frantically looking in every direction, hoping for some sign to lead me to him. It seemed like forever.

Then, there he was, across the parking lot, crying and banging on the window of an entry way. My heart dropped - although I knew he was safe in that instant - I couldn't fathom how scared he must have been. Being able to see his mom but she couldn't hear him. He was too small to open the heavy door, he was trapped inside.

No words can explain it.

I am happy to say I never lost him again - and I can assure you - I know how lucky I am.
