I believe...in theory

There are lots of "believers" out there. In the scientific community there are probably the most believers.

Why do I say this? Well because most of the scientific articles or interviews start with "I believe" or "we believe".

I believe that the Earth is not flat"

"We believe that man descended from a common ancestor with modern apes"

"We believe that global warming will lead to catastrophic environmental changes."

A simple way of proving that a theorem is true, is to prove that the reverse theorem is false (absurd).

For example: "The Earth is flat".

An easy theorem to prove false (absurd), nowadays LOL.

I wonder how many theories I believe can be proven (or disproven) using this method. I guess I will have to find out one by one.

LAW OF ATTRACTION

NETFLIX...got to admit that it's pretty addictive. You just keep browsing and browsing, until you stumble upon something, watch it for 5 min, than browse again. I saw this "documentary" on Youtube a while back called "The Secret", thought it was some propaganda thing, got bored after I found out what the secret was 10 seconds. Than I saw it again on Netflix. I watched it for 10-15 minutes, also got bored. (Oh, full disclosure, "the secret" is the so called law of attraction).

So basically this law of attraction is a manifestation of one's thoughts. It is a basic principle of a movement called.... New Thought. In short, if you think hard about something, the universe will respond and help you materialise that thought. So I thought hard about the one thing we all desire...money. I kid you not, the next day I received the biggest bonus from my company in the 10 years I have been working there. I bevelieve now, I believe.

Jokes aside the bonus was real, and I did think about money, like really focusing all my thoughts on a dollar bill. So it got me thinking. What if prayers work in the same way.

Basically prayers are just focused thoughts. Focusing on only one thought is a very hard thing to do. We see many people saying that they prayed and had their prayers answered. The only question is: who exactly answered those prayers, what if they were the ones that answered their own prayers.

The "zombie ant" Theory

So what's a description of a zombie,basically a mindless drone,urged by the desire to feed.Of course according to folklore a zombie is a walking cadaver, although vampires are also walking cadavers,both working on the same principle: in order to assure their own survival they need to feast on the living.

But why would a dead body need to survive.Now that's the paradox.Vampires,zombies,mummies, if they're all dead, why do they want to live so bad,even if they are the "living dead" they are still dead.

Now let's take a look of a real life zombie situation:

Scary? Well not really,it's just another form of parasitism,except this time it affects the nervous system and thus the behavior. It's just biochemistry at it's finest. If this would happen to humans it would be a lot less scarier than the diseases and illnesses we have today.Why? Because we can probably kill it.

The Universal Language Theory

It is said that 90% of our overall communications are non-verbal. This includes gestures, face expressions, chemical language, and other. Another thing I want to point out is that the universal language (and this is strictly related to the part of the Universe that we know stuff about) is not English, it's mathematics or physics if you like.

We ( people of the planet Earth) have always tried to communicate beyond our own little rock, therefore we have sent multiple messages out there, somewhere. About 30 years ago we sent "interstellar" probes to reach as far as possible the edges of our solar system. The Voyager missions carried out Golden Records containing visual and audio data, thought to be the most "universal" data possible (like sounds from earth, images from our planet,etc).

In our modern times, the SETI institute (Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence) is the one that is currently searching through radio waves, and also transmitting, in search of somebody out there.

The skeptics thought that not only this would be pointless because distances in space are too big for any signal to reach anything , in our own lifetime at least, but also if the alien races discovered were not so friendly, the message would be an invite for them to take over our planet. The comparison was made between a human and a cockroach, on the idea that a very intelligent race would simply not care of a more primitive life form, such as ourselves.

Now considering that most of our world communication is non-verbal, why do people think that alien communication would be verbal, or visual for that matter. Couldn't it be chemical? By secreting different substances they would send different signals to their alien brothers/sisters. Or maybe through electromagnetic waves, as basic telepathy.

And suddenly another thought comes into mind: what if we send the wrong message? Supposing our radio signals reaches an alien civilization, and they are using some sort of communication that can be disrupted by our message, or even might get them killed. We could wipe out an entire world just by trying to say : "Hello".

The "Efficiency System" Theory

Every day of our lives consists of "daily routines". Daily routines consist of different actions that become unconditioned reflexes due to repetitive use. Unfortunately not all routines are good or efficient.

For example waking up, and the first thing you do, is light up a cigarette.Smoking on an empty stomach causes hunger sensation,the stomach will secrete acid and that could cause tissue damage.So have a snack before lighting up that cigarette.

That's just an example of a bad routine.There are also inefficient routines that make up our daily lives,whether is work related, or house chores, or just spending free time. If you take a moment to write down the things you do in a week, you'll realize that some things could use a change. Implementing a more efficient daily routine means more personal time,and personal time is the most important;relaxing,enjoying it with friends,family.

When you manage to free more time for yourself don't just waste it,plan it.The quality of life is also related to how you spend your time,because you can only live once, and if everybody dies that doesn't mean that everybody lives.

A Theory with a drop of lemon

So basically scientists are discovering now what the stuff that newborns have been inoculated with for decades, does.Awesome,it reminds me of the Pepsi Twist commercials:

after it became Pepsi Twist Lemon,hmmm that's like saying climbing up, or sitting down

WHAT? What the hell? "NOW" with a drop of lemon,well what the hell did it contain until now?OMG and they wonder why Coke has 90% of the market.You gotta be kidding me, "now with a drop of lemon" they said.

Ok back to our vaccine...so "NOW" they are discovering what it does? That is so uncool,it's like humanity has been a guinea pig for decades.I know it's a necessary "evil",sort of say, but doing this based on the fact that "oh ok it provides immunity,it must be good and it has to be safe" when there are so many unknown factors involved it's kind of creepy.Seriously who knows what's going on at molecular level.

I'm gonna stop,no more conspiracy theories,if life gives me lemons....I'll just make lemonade.

The Paranoia Theory

During these past decades with all the global crisis going on hasn't anybody thought of what's going to happen? Overpopulation,lack of natural resources,less food,less drinking water,global warming ,economy going to pieces maybe and so on.

Some guy, somewhere at some table , while drinking his coffee with no sugar and just a drop of milk, is thinking:

"Hmmm , what the hell are we going to do about this?"

And it's enough for one thought to put some wheels into motion in order to create something.

"Do we have studies about this?" he asked ."We need more studies, we have to know what to do.We can't just sit here and drink coffee while the world goes to hell.How much resources do we have?...That's not enough,check who has some and let's start a war, it's for the good of the country.We need to preserve our way of life."

Globalization,it has to be done one way or the other, but usually it's done in the way of the strongest party.

"Size doesn't matter" Theory

Large populations confined in small habitats tend to get smaller individuals in future generations.Will the same thing happen to humans?I predict that if no natural or man-made disaster occurs in the next 200 years,and of course if natural resources including fresh water don't run out,the globe will be so populated that we will be forced to shrink in order to make room for ourselves.

Ridiculous? I beg to differ.If by 2050 the world population is estimated to be around 9 billions,then by 2200, if optimal conditions are met,we could reach 25 billions individuals.That is 4 times more people than we have today.

Yes the world is a big place but you have to consider that most of the population is concentrated in certain areas with economical,industrial,medical,political and educational centers.A megalopolis will be the urban center of the future for most of the populated areas.

Another issue that comes in mind is that in rural areas the density of the population will remain relatively low.So will the people in the urban areas be forced to shrink while their rural counterparts will stay tall and sexy?

I know it's an absurd theory and will probably put a smile on the face of anyone who reads it.But wouldn't you want to know that the dark future of humanity will consist in losing 10 centimeters in height instead of poverty,hunger,wars,natural disasters,and so on? I think so too

The Repetition Theory

Scientists say that soon we'll have no more original ideas.I say we are already passed that point.We have over 10,000 years of history and yet only less than 5,000 years are "recorded history".How do we know for sure that something we think of now,or we discover now,wasn't already discovered 7,351 years ago?

We take old things and give them new meanings and that's about it.The only reason we consider inventing new things is because we easily forget the past.And copyright is a major problem nowadays.Not like we intentionally do it but it happens,and we are unaware of it.

I'm almost certain that I am copying someone's ideas and posting them into my blog.I know it's like digging my own hole with that phrase but since I can't know for sure if I am the first to think like this (and I am probably not),it's a thought that I'm sticking with.

When it comes to originality I wish I was born 1000 years ago.When it comes to knowledge I wish I was born 1000 years from now.When it comes to society and civilization I wish I was born 1000 light years away.

The Utopian Theory

I've been meaning to write this for a while now,about Plato's Republic,about how we can create a truly modern society,about the future that mankind needs to go for.And as I'm thinking about this my mind wonders off (drifting away towards reality,one hell of a daydreamer I am) and I'm looking at my keyboard I realize that my PC is 5 years old,and there's this new MMO coming out this fall and I definitely need to buy a new PC.Just one problem: I lack the money.

And so my Utopia crumbles into cosmic dust as I realize that money still rules our society,actually our world.But how to make money? Hmmm well for sure "money making" is not related to culture or intelligence for that matter.Just your average IQ can make you millions,the question that remains is "how"?

The best way of making money is knowing how to sell your merchandise either it's a product or a service,or your body for that matter(just kidding).Because if you take,let's say 100 people to sell 100 breads and put them in 100 different markets with same amount of potential costumers,probably 70 will sell the breads;10 will sell the breads as "baguettes" at double cost,than they'll buy more bread and start a business;10 will sell the bread and borrow money to make bakeries to make more bread for sale;5 will sell the same bread to 10-20 people by promising a home delivery;3 will sell 1000 breads by saying the bread is just a "tester" and the real breads are in the back ready for delivery;1 will just eat the bread and say he sold it because he's too lazy to go to the market and 1 will give the bread to someone in need.

Now of course giving away your bread is not a profitable option,not to mention that the few ones that made real money by selling breads (cheating or not) can give away 100 breads later "Yes we cheated,but we only took from the rich to give to the poor",or say "we worked hard for our business and now we are giving back to the community", except they gave themselves a couple of houses,cars,plastic surgeries in the process.

99 people can make more or less money,but it takes just 1 to take the meaning of "society" ,"civilization" and "humanity" into the perfect future many of us dream about.Too bad there are 99 people that will probably kill him for only thinking different.

Finally Apocalypse is happening,clearly the death horseman is cruising trough Cairo boulevards.All religious persons raise your hands wohooo.Unless you don't have a "death horseman" in your Apocalypse section of the book.In that case you'll just have to wait for the next breaking news from CNN.

Come on people at least try to act a little skeptical about this;don't be skeptical but at least act a bit.We're in the 21st century,the cybernetic age,we have evolved in the past decade more than we did in half a century.

Well either way I'm glad people pay more interest in a "ghost" than in all the real and alive persons struggling in the land of the pharaohs; we have a distorted perception of our world because of the media influence,we see and hear only the information we are given.I wonder what the revolutionaries of Cairo think about that horseman,probably nothing ,probably they are too busy with a revolution.

The Theory of Imagination

      Well since yesterday my mind was a blur due to a severe headache,I just posted some videos and also reviewed them for my own amusement.What I admire at people like comedians is their unique capability of imagining things.
      It's the same cognitive process I am trying to apply to this blog,when two existing perceptions (thesis and antithesis) are combined within the mind, a third perception (called synthesis) is formed. At this point, perception only exists as a part of imagination and can become the inspiration for a new invention or technique,or why not a theory.That is the basic definition of imagination.
       It is also a known fact that hallucinogenic drugs, hypnosis,meditation (which can lead to self hypnosis) heighten the imagination.
       As I said in my "Theory of Relativity" post,we take for granted what our receptors(our "sensors") show us.But when the line between imagination and reality is crossed due to drugs or other factors which change the brain chemistry than it's called psychosis.
       Imagination can be so real that it hurts for real,we can hurt others not only ourselves,either by using drugs which distort reality or by imagining the wrong things like war and death and disease.

The "dream" Theory

I'm sure that everyone had a dream when he/she was little,like wanting to fly,wanting to be a certain superhero and so on.Let's analyze this for a moment.

Supposing you grow wings like in the movies; you have wings and you are able to fly.Will that put an end to traffic?No more cars/plains?Well since with the wings you'll reach a top speed of about 60 mph(100kmph) you'll take a plain if you want to travel long distances fast.Also how long will you be able to fly?There won't be fat people anymore? who are able to fly for 100 meters after having to rest? How about flying over an industrial zone,"mmmm noxious fumes"(Johnny Bravo).

How about swimming with the fishes?Same deal.Not fast enough for the 21st century,it's gonna be hard to talk on the phone or browse the web underwater.Also there are oil spills,garbage from ships,yuck totally nasty I daresay.

Hmmm what else did we dream about as infants,what power did we want to have?How about being a real superhero for once.Well that's not too bad,except the economic crisis that will stretch your moral superpower to the limit,not having enough money from "saving the day",if only love could "cure" world hunger.Not to mention a tons of governments wanting to know the secret of your power so they can "help" their countries.

Vampire maybe? Well if I were one I'd want to have my victims tested for HIV,Hepatitis A,B,C,D,E,I'd probably have to make my own blood bank,exciting eternal life.

What happened to our childhood dreams? Did we grow up and realize that it's just not possible,or did we grow up and realize that it's just not possible anymore?

The "Big and Mighty" Theory

Take a couple of small infants, a nutty professor and a bunch of his colleagues, some cartoons and a TV set and what do you get? Well a psychological experiment.Lotte Thomsen,who is assistant professor at the University of Copenhagen's Department of Psychology and his research fellow in Harvard's Department of Psychology, is the lead author of the article "Big and Mighty: Preverbal Infants Mentally Represent Social Dominance."

According to Thomsen's research, this potentially instinctive knowledge in infants could indicate the fact that we are all born with an understanding of the social hierarchy and how physical size relates to social dominance. Logic right?

Interviewing infants Thomsen and colleagues studied the reactions of kids ranging from 8 to 16 months old as they watched videos of interactions between cartoon figures of various sizes. (I don't suppose they watched Popeye or Mighty Mouse,or Atom Ant did they ?)

"The trouble with working with pre-verbal (unable to speak yet) infants is that you cannot just interview them and ask them what they think. So instead you have to look at what they do. And one of the things we know is that infants,like adults,tend to look longer at something that surprises them", Thomsen explains.

To see if small children use size as a cue for social dominance, they were shown simple cartoons of a big and little block that meet in the middle of a stage and bump into each other. In one of the cartoons the big block basically defeats the smaller block, and in the second one the opposite occurs.

The reactions that the scientists followed were the time these infants would watch the TV screen after the "bump" occurred. As they anticipated the times when the smaller block would win were the times the children watched more.

The Theory of a Typical Mind

Have you ever stepped back to look at what you are doing just to realize that you missed something?Well there are people who don't need to do that.

What is a "typical mind",well there are people who think everything step by step.I'm not one of them although I'd wish,I have a friend though who's thinking like this.Everything is well measured,no detail is missed,everything that needs to be done,well ...basically it's done.

I don't think like that,I see the finish product,I revise what needs to be done in order to get to the end but for certain I miss a couple of steps on the way.Usually I have to write down every step that I have to take ,and sometimes I even forget to write down all the steps.

No,not everyone does that.There are people who,well I just guess that they think slower in order to compensate having to do thorough work.And it's not only experience and repetitive actions which are the cause of this,no, there are some people who actually think like that.

And finally I manage to write the last and final post regarding the Global Conspiracy Theory.

Misinformation is a very subtle and powerful tool to keep a large amount of the population in total darkness,by providing with a customized artificial light.Come to think of it I'm just rewriting what Plato said 2000 years ago in the "cave myth", well sort of anyway.(note:for whoever reads this and doesn't know about the "cave myth" ,well either google it or stop reading).

Now the basic concept of misinformation is to confuse the brain into accepting an alternate reality,despite the fact that the right reality is already imprinted in it.For example a long time ago, an experiment was held to test if people can be misled into believing something other than what they've seen by giving them phony memories.After trying to remember what they saw,they could swear that the phony memory was true.

How does this work on a larger scale? Well let's put aside for a moment the "subliminal messages" that might or might not come from different media sources.Misinformation is basically a way to make people believe something that "some people" might want and it's all about phony information.

As time passes by the only thing that we can rely on to remember the past is our own memory.But since that is a bit leaky we rely also on written data(old newspapers,journals,recorded videos,internet,etc),and that is the secret.Just let time pass by and in the meantime feed people phony information. Give it a little time and in the end everyone would believe for certain what you want them to.Of course you can misinform in real time as well,just make sure you followed the first 2 steps of the program,that is starve and poorly educate the people.

Second post regarded to Global Conspiracy Theory.

I don't even need to write this post; US is currently in an educational crisis because due to lack of proper education the future of the economy is in peril.Why? Simply because half of the U.S. adults don't know how long it takes for the Earth to circle the sun.You can't have a financial expert or an economical leader with poor education.

Isn't that convenient, poor education means less people that actually know what the hell is going on with economy,politics and even the world around them,simply because they lack the knowledge.Not all people can be autodidacts, most of us need for someone to teach us stuff. Why? Well simply because our brain can handle it or we are too lazy to do it. It's not hard to understand why "some people" would want that.

Well anyway if poverty is an external factor that 99% of the time is "not our fault ", poor education and misinformation are 2 factors which simply are based on our own weakness: the genetic material.

The Poverty Theory

       First of the 3 theories related to Global Conspiracy Theory posted earlier.
     Just to keep this non-related to world wide theories, I will try to explain with few words the effects of poverty,poor education,misinformation and why are these issues so important in understanding the danger that is represented by our own kind.
      According to scientists, poor children are less capable than wealthier children.Joke? Not really.Besides the low nutritional value food that the poor children ingest every damn day,there is also the chronically elevated physiological stress they have to endure.
     This category of children includes infants from relatively low budget socioeconomic classes not the "barely living" classes from the 3rd world countries.Those children can only think about surviving from one day to the other, they don't have time to think about the global situation.Sad and cruel words I know,but it's the truth and the truth always hurts.
      Awful conclusion: being poor means you're dumber than the average guy.Also I don't know what's creepier,the fact that the poverty factor might be influenced by "some people" or the fact that scientists actually tested this theory on kids.

First I thought of making funny theories of the Universe,totally absurd ideas that only my idiotic brain could think of.But looking at the world around me I cannot stand without noticing how easy it is for some people to control it.

Why would people want that? If religions were political parties than Christianity would be the right-wing party,Judaism,Buddhism,Taoism,etc would be the left-wing parties and Islam would be the extreme radicals.Why did I suggest Christianity as a right-wing party,would only seem normal because this is the true religion...oh wait ...what?

Anyway since I'm going to hell or whatever might as well try to reconcile and say that thanks to religion women have equal rights... among themselves...oh wait... that's not good either.

You know if you want to believe in a higher power,than believe,follow the moral code,ethic code,listen to your conscience,but don't follow blindly what other human beings wrote thousands of years ago,because everything that humanity does is subjected to mistake,and boy did we make some big ones.

Theories and Axioms

When you're a kid you think your penis is just for peeing. When you're old you know that for sure.A perfect example of a theory and an axiom.But what is an axiom?Well an axiom or a postulate is basically a theory that doesn't have to be proven because it's true.

For example the "parallel lines postulate",it's the 5th postulate of Euclid and it holds the basis to plane geometry that we all learn in school.In Euclidean geometry, two lines are parallel if their alternate interior angles are congruent,thus through an exterior point to a line there can be drawn only one parallel line to the first line. And we all believed it because it was our teachers saying it, if not a teacher than who shall we believe?

Well my math teacher from junior high also said that we should never believe everything we are told (come to think of it maybe he was a factor in my current thought processes), because even a postulate can be ignored and proven otherwise.

Nikolai Lobachevsky invented a so-called hyperbolic geometry,he simply replaced Euclid's parallel postulate with the one stating that there is more than one line that can be extended through any given point parallel to another line of which that point is not part. Apparently this geometry is so cool that scientists use it in general relativity physics.

Another smart dude was Bernhard Riemann who invented elliptic theory which states that through an external point you can't draw any parallel line to another line.In this type of geometry, the surface of a sphere is the plane and great circles are the lines. A great circle is the largest circle on a sphere and divides the plane into two equal parts. Since it is the largest possible circle, it has the least possible curve and is the shortest distance between two points.Funny how this is also used in general relativity research.

Conclusion: like I said before we have to think outside the box,we have to learn our kids to think outside the box,otherwise we are as evolved as a man who lived 2300 years ago (no offense Euclid,you rocked baby).

For those who are yet unfamiliar with the term,MMORPG stands for massively multiplayer online role-playing game.This category of internet games includes names like World of Warcraft,Guild Wars,Lineage II,Cabal Online and many, many other names.The number of players is estimated as a 9 figure number.

A MMORPG is basically a game that features a fully developed virtual world,with politics,economy,love,war and so on.You develop a character from scratch and by gaining experience and money you can progress with your character. You can team up with friends,you can join guilds to improve even more and face even tougher challenges.

Just like a real world huh?Now the idea is like this: there are over 100 millions (I don't know the exact estimates) players; most of these players are high-school and college students(at least 3/4).A MMORPG world has a strong influence on a developing mind,sometimes it becomes hard to distinguish fantasy from reality,and it's very addictive.I'm not saying it's a bad thing,I'm a player myself.BUT...let's assume that in 50-100 years MMORPGs will be as realistic as The Matrix,what will happen than?Will MMORPGs be the new drug of the world?I specified in a previous post that people have the tendency of making movies regarding their concerns about the world.But movies are to be watched and not to be regarded as an alarm signal.Drugs are nothing else than a mass control device.Get something to control mankind and you have a docile population that you can lead anyway you want as long as you provide the drug.

Yet again I sound like a conspiracy theory but since the internet many people have opened their eyes and they've seen that humans are capable of anything.If something is possible than that thing will (if it hasn't already) happen.
