Gentle readers,
I started this blog 7 years ago on a lark and it helped me connect to a lot of great, right-minded people.

I've seen the re-election of "W" and the slow undoing of our glorious Republic; I've seen the Phillies phinally make it to the Big Show, the Flyers, Wings, Soul and even the Beagles put Philadelphia on the map.

But this year, too many personal issues have taken their toll and I find myself just not having the heart to invest the time and energy to put together post after post railing against the injustices of the world.

Its been a great ride, but now I have to walk away. I'll still be shooting my mouth off on Facebook, if you're interested.

I'd like to thank some of the great people who've shared my journey, among them:

Atlantis Makes Final Landing, Ending 30-Year Shuttle Program

After decades of inspiring millions around the globe, space shuttle Atlantis made a final, picture-perfect touchdown at Kennedy Space Center at 5:56 a.m. EDT -- ending the shuttle program.

"Job well done, America," mission control told pilot Doug Hurley and the thousands watching and listening to the landing in the pre-dawn dark.

There was a clear sense of nostalgia on the part of both crew and staff at Kennedy Space Center, as the ship made its final arrival safe and sound.

"Having fired the imaginations of a generation, a ship like no other, its place in history secured, the space shuttle pulls into port for the last time -- its voyage at an end," reported mission control.

"Mission complete, Houston," Hurley responded. "After serving the world for over 30 years, the space shuttle has earned its place in history. Atlantis has come to a final stop."

"It’s been 30 great years for the Space Shuttle program," said Bill Nye, executive director of the Planetary Society, in a statement on the landing. "With this venerable space vehicle retired, it’s on to the next adventure."

The shuttle signaled its approach with its signature dual sonic booms as Atlantis slowed to subsonic speeds at around 5:52 a.m. -- an incredible experience, said former shuttle astronaut Tom Jones.

"Everything seems to accelerate" when you're landing a shuttle, he told Fox News. "It's like going down a dirt road in a dump truck."

WASHINGTON -- Republican Rep. Allen West of Florida is standing by an incendiary email he sent to a Democratic colleague after she criticized him in a speech on the House floor.
"I think it's important to stake my ground," West told Fox News when asked about his email to Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee. "It was about enough is enough, and it's my right to say that. She is the one elevating this."

In her remarks on the House floor, Wasserman Schultz had said: "The gentleman from Florida, who represents thousands of Medicare beneficiaries, as do I, is supportive of this plan that would increase costs for Medicare beneficiaries. Unbelievable from a member from south Florida."
She was alluding to a GOP-backed bill to reduce the debt and amend the Constitution to require a balanced federal budget. The House later approved the bill 234-190, but it is unlikely to pass the Democratic Senate.
West, who is in his first term, wasn't shy about his online outburst. He sent his email to numerous lawmakers, as well as Wasserman Schultz and other congressional leaders. The subject line of the email: "Unprofessional and Inappropriate Sophomoric Behavior from Wasserman Schultz."
The e-mail said: "Look, Debbie, I understand that after I departed the House floor you directed your floor speech comments directly towards me. Let me make myself perfectly clear, you want a personal fight, I am happy to oblige. You are the most vile, unprofessional and despicable member of the US House of Representatives. If you have something to say to me, stop being a coward and say it to my face, otherwise, shut the heck up."

Casey Anthony Found Not Guilty of Killing 2-Year-Old Daughter

A Florida jury has cleared Casey Anthony of murdering her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee, bringing to a close a case that has captivated the American public for more than three years.

Anthony, 25, wept after the clerk read the verdict, which jurors reached after less than 11 hours of deliberation over two days.

She was charged with first-degree murder, which could have brought the death penalty if she had been convicted, but the jury, after a trial lasting more than a month, found her not guilty on all charges related to Caylee's death, including aggravated child abuse and aggravated manslaughter. She was convicted of four counts of lying to investigators and could receive up to a year in jail for each count when Judge Belvin Perry sentences her Thursday.

Levet breaks shin jumping in lake

INVERNESS, Scotland - Thomas Levet could miss next week's British Open after breaking his shin jumping into a lake to celebrate his victory at the French Open.
The former Ryder Cup player has a cast on his leg as a result of his exuberant celebration at the 18th hole at Le Golf National on Sunday, ruling him out of the Scottish Open starting at Castle Stuart on Thursday.

The 42-year-old Levet's management company, IMG, says he is receiving "intense treatment to the fracture" and will consult with a specialist this week in a bid to make the Open.

Levet leaped into a lake after beating England's Mark Foster and Dane Thorbjorn Olesen by a shot, ending his 25-year wait to win his home championship.

Sorry for the lack of entertainment lately, but a LOT of s**t from the past two years has finally caught up to me and knocked me for a standing 8 count.

Most days, I really don't have the will or energy to post the never-ending foibles of entertaining idiots like Obama, or locally, Mayor Squidward Nutter as he marches Philadelphia straight into the history books, or opine on the "Hope for Change" that is Perry, Pawlenty, Bachmann and Santorum (to name a few).

Diagnosing something like PTSD is only half the fun. Finding the cause and hoping its the right one,...aye, there's the rub! Every doctor has an idea and they're right while everyone else is wrong. Its expensive and time-consuming. Having insurance is great, but insurance with Obama's ~~jackboot~~,...footprint all over it sucks. The cheap and dirty way to find the light at the end of the tunnel is to throw meds at the symptoms and hope you get the right balance. I'm watching how that dance is playing out in some of my friends and co-workers and I don't like it and I fear for them and pray the land on their feet before it all spins out of control.

This wasn't supposed to be a rant or a sob story, so hold off on the pity replies. I'm still here and I still have a lot to say. Until then, stay safe, drop by and read what I have to say (for a change) or at least visit some of my friends on the right.

GPS leads lost driver down boat ramp

BELLEVUE, Wash. - Three young women escaped a sinking SUV after a direction from a rental car GPS unit sent them down a boat launch and into the Mercer Slough near Bellevue early Wednesday.

The driver apparently thought she was on a road while following her GPS unit just after midnight - but she was actually heading down the Sweyolocken boat launch.

"We've seen sitcom parodies of something like this and to actually see it is surprising," said Lt. Eric Keenan with the Bellevue Fire Department.

The road was dark and the driver crashed the SUV into the water in Mercer Slough Nature Park.

"I don't know why they wouldn't question driving into a puddle that doesn't seem to end," Keenan said.

He says one of the women immediately jumped to safety.

"We understand the other two women tried to stay with the SUV as long as they could by standing on these side door frames, but they finally had to wade to safety when the vehicle kept drifting out farther into the slough," Keenan said.

All three women made out safely, but the SUV was completely under water.

Francisco Solomon Sanchez Kills Himself After 10 Tries

After at least 10 documented suicide attempts spanning several years, Francisco Solomon Sanchez finally succeeded in killing himself last Friday, reports the Pasadena Star-News.

The 41-year old man from Duarte jumped from the 210 Freeway overpass and was hit by at least one car. The LA County Coroner ruled that his death was a suicide.

Sanchez had actually jumped from the same overpass in 2003, and used prosthetic legs as a result of that failed attempt. His efforts have landed him in mandatory psychiatric evaluation in the past, but health and safety officials are limited when it comes to mental health interventions. In LA County, people can be held involuntarily in a psychiatric health facility for up to 72 hours. The person can be held for an additional 14 days against his or her will only if certain criteria are fulfilled

NATO faces 'dim' future: U.S. defence secretary

The United States' military alliance with Europe — the cornerstone of American security policy for six decades — faces a "dim, if not dismal" future, U.S. Defence Secretary Robert Gates said Friday in a blunt valedictory address.

In his final policy speech as Pentagon chief, Gates questioned the viability of NATO, saying its members' penny-pinching and lack of political will could hasten the end of U.S. support. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization was formed in 1949 as a U.S.-led bulwark against Soviet aggression, but in the post-Cold War era it has struggled to find a purpose.

"Future U.S. political leaders — those for whom the Cold War was not the formative experience that it was for me — may not consider the return on America's investment in NATO worth the cost," he told a European think-tank on the final day of an 11-day overseas journey.

Gates has made no secret of his frustration with NATO bureaucracy and the huge restrictions many European governments placed on their military participation in the Afghanistan war. He ruffled NATO feathers early in his tenure with a direct challenge to contribute more front-line troops that yielded few contributions.

Even so, Gates' assessment Friday that NATO is falling down on its obligations and foisting too much of the hard work on the U.S. was unusually harsh and unvarnished. He said both of NATO's main military operations now — Afghanistan and Libya — point up weaknesses and failures within the alliance.

"The blunt reality is that there will be dwindling appetite and patience in the U.S. Congress — and in the American body politic writ large — to expend increasingly precious funds on behalf of nations that are apparently unwilling to devote the necessary resources or make the necessary changes to be serious and capable partners in their own defence," he said.

Without naming names, he blasted allies who are "willing and eager for American taxpayers to assume the growing security burden left by reductions in European defence budgets."

A Danish pharmaceutical company says it's desperately seeking a way to stop US prisons from executing people with its epilepsy drug Nembutal. “We are horrified at this fact, and we are looking at ways to prevent prisons from getting this drug,” a spokesman for Lundbeck A/S said. “At first we considered stopping production of this product but there is a medical need for it and hospitals pleaded with us not to.”

The drug, generically used as pentobarbital, was originally designed for epilepsy, and has also been used to euthanize animals. But thanks to a shortage of sodium thiopental, some states have been trying to sub it in to their lethal injection cocktails. “When we first learned of this misuse of our drug we went public and protested strongly to the relevant prison governors and state politicians,” Lundbeck’s CEO tells the Wall Street Journal. Nembutal makes up only a tiny portion of Lundbeck’s sales.

Assisted Suicide Advocate Jack Kevorkian Dies at 83

Dr. Jack Kevorkian, the Michigan pathologist who championed physician-assisted suicides, died early Friday after being hospitalized with kidney problems and pneumonia.

The 83-year-old Kevorkian, who said he helped some 130 people end their lives from 1990 to 1999, died about 2:30 a.m. at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Mich., close friend and attorney Mayer Morganroth said.

An official cause of death had not been determined, but Morganroth said it likely will be pulmonary thrombosis.

"I had seen him earlier and he was conscious," said Morganroth, who added that the two spoke about Kevorkian's pending release from the hospital and planned start of rehabilitation. "Then I left and he took a turn for the worst and I went back."

Nurses at the hospital played recordings of classical music by composer Johann Sebastian Bach for Kevorkian before he died, Morganroth said.

'Taxi' Star Jeff Conaway Dead at 60

After spending weeks in a coma thought to be brought on by a prescription drug overdose, “Taxi” star Jeff Conaway has died. He was 60 years old.
Conaway, who is perhaps best known for his role as Kenickie in the iconic film “Grease,” fell into a coma after the reported overdose and was taken to a hospital on May 11. He never woke up.
On Thursday, Radar Online reported that the family of the star, who had a long and public battle with drug addiction, was looking to take him off of life support. Doctors had previously told the family that no brain activity was detected from the star.
The decision had to be delayed when his ex-girlfriend, Vikki Lizzi, took the family to court over the decision.
Conaway had a restraining order against Lizzi, so she was not permitted to be at the hospital.

Today, former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty formally threw his hat in the ring for the 2012 Republican nomination and the chance to upend President Obama.

Sure, the press politely clapped; then they yawned and looked over their collective shoulders to see what Mitt Romney was doing today.

Yeah, Tim Pawlenty is kinda dull. Given the shellackings the Republicans took in 2006 and agin with the 2008 pairing of overripe John McCain and just under-ripe (and Not Ready for Prime Time)Scotch Bonnet Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska.

It made many conservatives wistful for the days of Ronald Reagan. President Reagan was many things; among them he was verbose and charismatic; he looked you square in the eye and called you out for the fool your were. He went to West Berlin, looked at that concrete wall that symbolically divided East from West and dared the Soviets to tear it down. It wasn't political grandstanding - he MEANT it.

Then came Scott Brown of Massachusetts. He rolled up his sleeves, drove his pickup truck to every corner of the Commonwealth and upended one of the ultimate political gimmees: a Democrat representing Massachusetts.

He's since been followed by a series of brash, Reaganesque leaders (where positive results = leadership)such as New Jersey's Chris Christie, Texas' Rick Perry and Minnesota's Michelle Bachmann. These people are brash, abrasive, loud and confrontational. They don't suffer liberal fools gladly. And they attract attention to themselves and their accomplishments.

And then we return to quiet, dull Tim Pawlenty. But, y'know what, gentle readers? While Santorum and Cain, Paul and Gingrich and the rest of the pack are pontificating on their platforms of the way they want conservative ideals to prevail, Tim Pawlenty became to the first elected official since Congressman Joe Wilson to look Obama square in the eye and call him a failure to his face.

Maybe I prefer dull to loud. If it gets us out of this political quagmire, I'll gladly yawn and pull the lever for Pawlenty!

President Obama said Friday that differences remain between the United States and Israel over the Middle East peace process, after he and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met at the White House.

The frosty relationship between President Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu endured another test Friday, as the two met in the Oval Office following a bombshell policy shift by the U.S. on terms for Mideast peace.

Obama, in a sweeping address tackling the uprisings in the Middle East and the stalled peace process, stunned Washington and Jerusalem Thursday by endorsing Palestinians' demand for their own state based on the pre-1967 borders. The break with U.S. policy appeared to immediately aggravate the Israelis, who want the borders of any future Palestinian state determined through negotiations.

In a statement released late Thursday, Netanyahu said such a withdrawal would put at risk Israel's security. He effectively called on Obama to recant his latest demand.

"Israel appreciates President Obama's commitment to peace," the statement said. "Israel believes that for peace to endure between Israelis and Palestinians, the viability of a Palestinian state cannot come at the expense of the viability of the one and only Jewish state. That is why Prime Minister Netanyahu expects to hear a reaffirmation from President Obama of U.S. commitments made to Israel in 2004. ... Among other things, those commitments relate to Israel not having to withdraw to the 1967 lines."

According to a report in the Israeli newspaper YNet, the prime minister was prepared for a confrontation with Obama Friday. Obama and Netanyahu have worked through a string of diplomatic challenges over the past two and a half years, but the president's Mideast speech presents a new hurdle. The U.S. had previously endorsed the concept of a Palestinian state, but not the demand for permanent pre-1967 borders, with mutually agreed land swaps.

The immediate concern among pro-Israel lawmakers and advocates was that Obama's speech will give Palestinians a new starting point in negotiations, rather than something to work toward over the course of talks.

Josh Block, former spokesman for The American Israel Public Affairs Committee, told FoxNews.com that Obama "repeats the error" made when his White House pressed the Israelis on settlement construction, granting the Palestinians more leverage in talks.

The talks have since stalled and Obama's Middle East envoy has resigned. Block said Obama's new position will not help matters.

"This strategic error is manifold, and undermines, not advances, the prospects for peace talks," he said in an email.

Obama is set to address the AIPAC conference on Sunday. Other Jewish advocacy groups, though, said Obama's position merely puts the U.S. on record in support of a plan that had a good chance of being the basis for a compromise anyway.

Pro Wrestler Randy 'Macho Man' Savage Dies in Car Accident

Pro wrestlling superstar Randy "Macho Man" Savage died after having a heart attack while driving his Jeep Wrangler, Fox News confirms.

The accident happened in Seminole, Fla.

A source tells Fox News that he "suffered a heart attack while driving and hit a tree."

Lanny Poffo, Randy's brother, told TMZ the accident happened Friday morning when Savage lost control of his vehicle.

Florida Highway Patrol said Savage leapt a concrete median, veered into oncoming traffic and smashed into a tree head on.

He died from his injuries at largo Medical Center.

Savage, 58, had just celebrated his first wedding anniversary with his wife Lynn. It was his second marriage. His first wife died of a drug overdose shortly after their divorce in 1992.

The wrestling world took to Twitter to grieve over the former wrestler.

"He had so much life in his eyes & in his spirit, I just pray that he's happy and in a better place and we miss him," Hulk Hogan posted on his Twitter account.

"RIP Randy 'Macho Man' Savage - you were one of my childhood inspirations and heros. Strength, love and prayers to the Savage/Poffo family," Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson said on Twitter.

"I lost a close friend today. If anybody in heaven is wondering who the cat in the ugly cowboy hat is it's Randy. Love you Bro. Never another," Kevin Nash tweeted.

Savage helped put WWF wrestling on the map in the 1980s and '90s, becoming, along with Hulk Hogan, one of its biggest draws. His outrageous outfits and bellowing voice made him a fan favorite.

Summer of disaster 'not climate change': Rajendra Pachauri

SPECIFIC natural disasters such as Cyclone Yasi and the Brisbane floods could not be directly linked to man-made climate change, the world's leading climate change authority said yesterday.

Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change chairman Rajendra Pachauri said the general observation that climate change was bringing about an increase in extreme weather events was valid but scientists needed to provide much finer detail.

"Frankly, it is difficult to take a season or two and come up with any conclusions on those on a scientific basis," Dr Pachauri said.

"What we can say very clearly is the aggregate impact of climate change on all these events, which are taking place at much higher frequency and intensity all over the world.

"On that there is very little doubt; the scientific evidence is very, very strong. But what happens in Queensland or what happens in Russia or for that matter the floods in the Mississippi River right now, whether there is a link between those and climate change is very difficult to establish. So I don't think anyone can make a categorical statement on that."

Dr Pachauri's comments contradict assertions by Greens leader Bob Brown in the wake of the floods that the coal industry was to blame because the sector's contribution to global warming was responsible for the extreme weather conditions.

Scientists had concluded that the floods were caused by record high temperatures in the oceans around Australia, Senator Brown said at the time.

As experts from around the world meet on the Gold Coast this week to finalise a special report on global warming and extreme weather events, which is due out in November, Dr Pachauri admitted the IPCC had been damaged by recent controversies over leaked emails and its use of poor-quality research.

Following the raid on Osama bin Laden, Hasidic newspaper Der Tzitung ran the iconic White House Situation Room photo, with just one teensy change: There were no women in it. The paper removed Hillary Clinton as well as Counterterrorism Director Audrey Tomason, as noted by Failed Messiah last week. The story was picked up today by the Jewish Week, Jezebel, and Styleite, among others.

Imagine, gentle readers, if you can, that it is the summer of 1945: Hitler is dead and Germany has surrendered to the Allies. The Japanese Empire is slowly crumbling and an inevitable defeat to these same Allies is at hand.

Then-President Harry S. Truman signs the order to drop nuclar weapons on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan, forcing the capitulation of the Chrysanthemum Throne to the Western Allied Forces.

But it is President Franklin D. Roosevelt who is remembered as the American commander-in-chief who lead the charge to simultaneously stop the aggression of Hitler's Nazis and his Axis partners, including the Japanese Empire, from global domination.

Now, it is September 14, 2001. America, and the greater part of the world, are stunned to silence by the heinous actions of a religious madman and 20 of his followers.

Then-President George W. Bush climbs to the top of a pile of rubble where the World Trade Center once stood and utters the following:

Santorum Slams Obama for Foreign Policy "Failure"

On the same day President Obama is announcing changes to his national security team, potential presidential hopeful and former Senator Rick Santorum slammed the White House for appeasing its enemies and failing to advance U.S. national security interests.

"When a president...apologizes for our country and her immediate policies, we do not advance our security - we diminish our credibility," Santorum said at Washington's National Press Club Thursday afternoon, adding that President Obama "doesn't believe in American foreign policy" and is "trying to hide" from "political heat."

Best known for his outspoken conservative views on social issues, the Pennsylvania Republican served on the Senate Armed Services Committee and has been amplifying his criticism of the president's foreign policy in recent weeks. Earlier this month, Santorum announced that he was "testing the waters" for a presidential run.

"Nothing has illustrated the failure of President Obama's foreign policy more than how we have dealt with Iran," he said of Iranian dissidents. "We sided with evil because our president believes our enemies are legitimately aggrieved and thus we have no standing to intervene." (read more)
