An African Memory

I was looking through my Mom and Dad's pictures on their computer, and came across this one! I love it, it was such a fun find, and totally took me back to Africa! This is in our backyard, our house is off to the right, and you can see a little bit of my favorite tree, that I use to climb, and read in all of the time. This is a termite hill, sounds fun huh....but it was the best clay for making pots, and other fun things! It was really small when we first moved in, but it just kept getting bigger! And by the way, all of our houses were made of brick, so there were no termite problems! In back of us is my best friends house, that is where I learned to do everything she did, cook, clean, take care of her baby sisters, and even how to carry them on my back! I was a little African most days :) Makes me miss living there SO much...can't get much better for a kid! Jon is so cute here, and I have a wonderful haircut (not!!). It's a fun memory!

They were so excited to go to every house, but very good too, by saying "Thank You", and standing back from the door...not that I had to remind them or anything :)

Carving Pumpkins

We have had a great few days to get out, and carve our pumpkins! This is the first year the boys have actually got in there, and dirty...but they thought it was kinda gross! Most of these pumpkins are Hayden's, that we started growing at the beginning of the summer.

I got to make sure they were all clean, and then clean up, while Jeremy did the hard part of drawing them, and cutting them out. He did a great job, he is so creative!!

When Jeremy was carving them, we decorated these pumpkins with fun stuff we got from Grandma. It was a great way to pass the time, so they didn't bug Jer, plus it was something they could do without cutting themselves!

At school, the kindergarten class got to visit the shop class, and explore some pumpkins. They had to count some seeds, and clean the pumpkin out, saving some seeds to eat later!

Hayden was really happy to work with JP, from Jeremy's basketball team!

They worked pretty hard...

And had a BLAST!! Thanks JP!

Since I am home during the day, and this project just didn't work to have the kids help out, Jeremy asked me to do his Sun Pickles from the garden. Here are all the ingredients...

Mrs. Koefod had a great recipe, and even a big enough jar!

Boiling the water and vinegar...stinky!

These are all from the garden...Straight Eights, and Boston Pickling.

Left is the Straight Eights, right is the Boston.

They really look different cut too...up is the Straight 8's, and below is the Boston's.

Add the water mixture, and seal it up

Then get them into the sun for 5 days

Kindergarten Grandparents Day!

During the 1st few weeks of school, the Kindergarten class learned a song, a poem, and did a craft for their Grandpa and Grandma's to celebrate Grandparents Day!

Hayden was SO excited because Grandpa Matt, Grandma Judy, and Grandma J all came to see him!

After their little program, they went upstairs with their grandpa's and grandma's, and had a snack. I think it was a pretty good afternoon for all of them!

His teacher, Mrs.Welch had given him a few pumpkin seeds at Kindergarten Round-up last year. She told him to plant them, and by the time kindergarten was ready to start, his pumpkins would be ready. She was right! He brought in his biggest one for her!

Rogness Reunion

Every 4 years the Rogness family gets together for our big family reunion. It's usually out at Inspiration Point Bible Camp, and lasts for the weekend. This year because we live so close, and were so busy, we decided to just go for the day, on Saturday.

All of us in 2011, the 7 different families!

It was so fun to hang out with my aunts, uncles and cousins, who I don't get to see very much! We have fun together, and are a little silly too :)

The camp has lots of things to do, and the boys really wanted to try the paddle boats. So Grandpa took Jaxon and Jonah on one.

And Jeremy took Hayden on another...

After a great supper, we had a little time together. We were suppose to be ready to share a family talent, a few sang, one had a little devotional, and we also had a Minot flood update, because Rollin and some of his family lost a lot in that flood. It was great to see some pictures, and know what to pray for.

We relied on Jonah for our families talent, and he broke out some of his break dancing moves in front of a lot of people! He was pretty nervous, but Jeremy sat up there by him, and helped him along.

At the end, some of the kids came up and lead us in 'Jesus Loves Me'. It was a great way to end the evening!

It's crazy how much changes in 4 years! Can't wait to see everyone at the next one!

Tubing with the Wing's!!

One hot afternoon, the Wing's (Brian, Suzanne, Morgan and Miles) invited us out to their house to do some tubing. None of the boys have tried this before, and were a little nervous. Morgan said he would go with them, and Suzanne went really slow.

Morgan is on Jeremy's basketball team, Brian is in a Bible study with Jeremy, and Suzanne and I are also in one together too!

Of course, it didn't take them too long to get over being nervous, and just have a blast!

When we got to the middle of the lake, they did some swimming.

They were all a little scared of the deep water, but got use to it pretty quickly!

Morgan and Jeremy jumped in there with them, and cooled off!

Jonah tried for like 5 minutes to get up here by himself, and it didn't work...

Jeremy's face is so funny in this picture, it looks like Hayden farted or something!

They also were jumping off the tube, and the boat.

Hayden loves being with Morgan...he thinks he's pretty cool! Morgan is so good with him too, he just lets him jabber his ear off :)

Headed back to the house, they wanted Dad to get on with them. It was kinda crowded, and lopsided, but they made it work!

My favorite 2 of the day....all 4 of my guys having a blast together! Thanks so much for having us out Brian, Suzanne, Morgan and Miles! It was a great day, and such a fun 1st time tubing for the boys!

Swimming at Eagle Lake

As you can see, this is where we spent a lot of time this summer! Eagle lake is only about 10 minutes from Ashby, and has the best, cleanest water around! The boys LOVE swimming, and we always had a blast!

I love these guys!

There are a lot of these, but they are all so funny! Jeremy and I were just sitting in the chair watching and laughing. They did this for more than a half an hour, with no injury or fighting....which is fun to watch!

They would all get on then try to tip it over and all fall in. Jonah would pull them around too.

Dad spent a lot of time playing catch with the football, one of Jaxon's favorite things to do!

I just love both their smiles :)

Arrow Summer Basketball Camp

Across the street from my Mom and Dad's, my cousin owns a lot that has lots of trees, and places to explore. The boys call it "LaWayne's Park". They have spent a lot of time there this summer, the tire swing is there, along with a garage that they shot their BB gun behind.

4th of July!

We had a great 4th of July with family! We spent the whole day at Grandma and Grandpa's house doing tons of different things...We ate lots of good food, went slip-n-sliding, had some fun with the BB gun, and set off a lot of fire works! But the best thing of all, was just relaxing...we just hung out, with nothing pushing us. It was wonderful!

Jaxon LOVED the BB gun, he spent every minute he could just walking around trying to hunt (what all normal boys should do!). He came running up to the house telling us to come see what he got. It was a garter snake, that he got right in the head. We had to get a picture of his "1st kill", as he called it!

We celebrated both the engagement, and Tyler's birth together, since this was the 1st time Brittney and David met him!

F.Y.I...on July 3rd it was Judi's birthday, Tyler's birthday (so they are birthday twins), and the day David asked Brittney to marry him in Germany! Pretty important day, if I do say so myself :)

Tyler Jon Knick 7/3/11

Tyler Jon was born on July 3, 2011, at 1:02am. The next morning we all came for a visit, we were all so excited to meet him! Grandma J's birthday is on the same day, so they are birthday twins!! Kinda a fun day for our, Judi's birthday, Tyler's birthday, and the day David asked Brittney to marry him!

"What happens at Grandma's stays at Grandma's"

Little Arrows Elementary Garden

Last year, Jeremy had a great idea for a learning garden, and wrote a grant for it. He got it approved, and he (1st grade), the 2nd grade, and Kindergarten teachers, started planning. They worked with our Shop/Ag teacher, who came up with a layout, and he and his class built a huge raised garden...it is SO amazing!! They really did a great job, everyone is very impressed with their work! At the end of the year, the kids and teachers started planting. The kids really had a good time with it, and are pretty proud of their work :)

Jeremy, and his class are planting some marigolds here. They also started some other plants from seed in the classroom, that we planted later.

The 2nd grade teacher, Mrs. Koefod's husband, had the sign engraved at work. It turned out beautiful!

I just took a few different shots, so you could for sure see what was written. This is part of Jeremy's butterfly garden. He loves butterflies, and loves to study them with his kids!

The marigold bushes just exploded, and the rest are perennials that will grow back next spring/summer.

These last 2 were taken later in the summer....see how big and full it has gotten?

This is also a little butterfly area. All of these plants attract butterflies or caterpillars.

The caterpillars grow on these plants, eat a ton, make their chrysalises, then turn into monarch butterflies. It is so much fun to see the changes, and we even had 1 this year...hopefully more next year, when the milkweed is bigger!

Here is the front of the garden, looking straight in...the octagon shaped one is right to the left.

These are some of the flowers that the kids in 1st grade, started from seed. They just grew like crazy, you can't get much more beautiful! There are just a couple different varieties of zinnia's.

So going from left to right now...we are at the first box, with a bench at the end. This is where Jeremy planted a few different kinds of cucumbers. He is going to use them for pickling, now at the beginning of the year. The kids will get to help make those, and taste the different kinds.

I really wanted to get how they were growing, and I didn't do all that well getting the in between stage...but here is a few almost ready to pick!

Mrs. Koefod started the really tall sunflowers out from seed, in her room....they got HUGE!!

Then Jeremy planted a couple other varieties, just to see the difference.

These even have a couple different colors, and are a smaller version.

Jeremy also planted and herb box, with a bench on the end. He had spearmint, rosemary, sweet basil, parsley, curry, lemon plant, and cilantro. The kids will be able to do some fun taste testing!

Jeremy also planted some dill, for pickling, and to attract butterflies. The Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Welch, planted some corn.

The shop class also made these cute little picnic tables for the kiddo's. LOVE THEM!

These three sections are Mrs. Welch's zucchini, gourds, and pumpkins. They kinda spilled over in a few places, but I think it looks really cool!

These are kinda middle summer pictures, when the plants were just blooming flowers! They also have some pretty humming bird feeders up.

Now we are getting to the right side of the garden...Mrs. Welch also planted these beautiful flowers, and she put them in an American Flag shape. It looked great!

And these last few are just of the outside view...not that big of a deal, but great to document!

I got to help plant, water, and weed (although there weren't that many weeds!). It was a fun summer project, and it will be fun to see what they add next year! The boys loved helping out too, and it was a great learning experience for them, they would just go crazy whenever they saw something new! It was fun to see them get so excited about it! I am pretty impressed with how awesome the 1st year went...way to go Jer, Carol, Cindy and Dustin, you all did a great job!!

A painting day with Aunt Bert!

For Christmas this last year, Brittney gave her nephews a picture frame, canvas, and a little note saying that in the summer, after she graduated from college, she was going to help them paint whatever they wanted on their canvas. So one Saturday early this summer, she came to spend they day with us, and work on their paintings... She did such a great job helping them, but also having them do most of it (which I have a hard time with, I just want to do things for them which isn't good!). They had so much fun, and were really proud of their work!

Hayden did such a great job on Wall-e, and Britt took no time at all, making him come to life!

Jax knew what he wanted right away! He is a big Star Wars fan, so it wasn't surprising what he chose. It is actually Clone trooper Cody, from the cartoon Star Wars the Clone Wars.

He got a little frustrated, and sad when it didn't really look like Cody. He spent a lot of time on it, and did a really good job, but being a 1st child, he was kinda wanting perfection. So Britt worked with it a little, and put in some details, and in NO TIME, it looked perfect, and he was pumped!

Jonah did a good job too, he kinda got a little bored, and I had to fill in a little, but he knew exactly what colors he wanted, and it turned out fun, and bright!

Thanks Aunt Bert!! The boys are so blessed to have you in their lives!

This is such a great picture! Britt is SO amazing at what she does, she worked really hard, and it shows. She really is incredible to watch, it takes her no time to make things look beautiful. She printed out pictures of what the boys wanted, and sketched it out in no time. She took them through steps, and really taught them lots, plus she is super patient, and doesn't get frazzled like I do in these situations! It was so fun for them to actually be able to paint much of it. Even if it didn't look completely right, or there were little mess ups, she fixed them up, and did quick things to make them look amazing! We are proud of her, and are blessed to see the talent she has!

She and Nathan did a huge painting of Jesus, and the crucifixion, during a Maundy Thursday church service, in Alexandria (at Nathan and Amber's church). It was a huge canvas, like 8ft x something (I don't know exactly how big), and they did it in a little over an hour. It was AMAZING, wonderful to watch them, and be apart of it. I really don't know how they did it, but all I can say is that God was there! We were definitely proud to be their family! They both worked on the concept together, with Nathan taking all the scenery, and Britt working on Jesus.

These guys are great friends, and all have been great to Jaxon. Issac (on the left), was on of Jaxon's best friends, and moved away this summer. Jax was really sad, Issac was a big part of helping Jaxon have a great first year. He was a very good friend!

At the end of the season, they have a big tourney, it was super hot out there, and Jaxon's team played 9am-almost 2pm. He was pretty hot and tired, but he made it threw, and played great!

Hayden and Jonah had a lot of sitting around, but they made the most of it. A lot of snacks from Grandma helped too!

Last Days of School

Jaxon had a fun last few days of school, everyday for the last month or so they had special things each day. One was wacky dress day...and he did that. He had dad's hat on, PJ bottoms, and a purple clip-on tie. It was pretty cute!

Track and Field Day '11

Ashby does a Track and Field Day, during the last few days of school. The kids really look forward to it, and practice in gym class too. All the parents get to come, and cheer on their kids. It was a great day out, and I know my boys had a blast! Mom, Hayden and I had fun watching too :)

Hayden's Last Day of Preschool

Hayden is growing up so fast these days, it seems like every time I look at him, he changes some how! It has been fun, and kinda sad to watch, but of course we are really proud of him. He has really became so independent, and has learned a lot this year!

All set to go!

His best friend in school, moved into the house next door, last spring and we usually drive them up to school with us. Richie and Hayden have a great time playing together! Can't get much cuter!!

Hayden loves to play outside, and I got to hang out and play with him today! He actually made it across the monkey bars for the 1st time, he was super excited!!

Before they head up for lunch, the kids line up and sing some songs. Today they sang them for us parents, all on their own, it was pretty cute. And as usual, Hayden is one of the loudest, which here was a great thing!

On his last day of school, I was able to spend almost the whole day with him! It was fun to see their routine, and be apart of it all. One of the 1st things we did, was make homemade ice cream. It was really fun, and of course all of the kids thought it was amazing! The picture above is of Hayden and his friend Hayley, shaking their ice cream. They combined all of their ingredients, and had a bag of ice in there with it, and we had to shake it for a long time. But in the end it worked, and it tasted great!

Hayden's teacher, Taanna, has been a wonderful teacher these last 2 years! When Hayden started preschool, he had so much separation anxiety, and would cry a ton when I left. He was okay, only when he was right by Taanna, and she took great care of him! We have been very thankful for her!

Grandpa's 90th Birthday

My Grandpa turned 90 earlier this year, and we had a weekend long celebration for him! He had not been feeling that great, but when the day came, it seemed to give him a little spark, to see so many people come to celebrate him!

We had super, the night before, at Broen just as a family. We always have fun!

Jonah had just had his birthday, and he never left his new DS at home!

Jaxon and Jonah's Basketball Buddy Nights

I have been trying to play a little catch up here with our blog, so I can keep on track a little better!

Here are some fun pictures of Jaxon and Jonah this winter...yeah I know winter, but at least they are on here now! The boys were in Ashby's Kids in Buckets, a little camp that they do, just to get them excited about basketball. They had a drawing for the kids, to be able to be apart of the team for a game, and both Jaxon and Jonah got picked. They both were super excited, to hang with Dad, and the team for the night, can't get much better! Jonah was the first one to get to be a buddy, and he had a great night!

That night we were playing Hillcrest, and I managed the guys basketball team, for Mr. Preston, plus he was my social studies teacher. It was kinda crazy that my husband was coaching against him!

Jonah was the 1st to be announced! I love Tanner's face in this one!

As a basketball buddy, you get to pick a favorite player that you want to meet on the court, so you don't have to stand alone. Jonah's was J.P Moe!

A Special Mother's Day (still some catch up!)

These pictures are kinda blurry...my camera wasn't working at all, which is kinda sad, but I still wanted to put them up. At church the boy, and their Sunday School classes sang a bunch of songs, on Mother's Day, which was pretty special!

Hayden's class was first, and he did such a great job. He smiled the whole time, and sang very loud!

After church, Dad and Jeremy made lunch for all of us, including my Grandma. Mom and I just sat and visited, it was great, and the food was wonderful!

Dad was leaving for Japan the next day, and Jonah really wanted to go along with him, so Grandpa said that he could go along in the suitcase. Jonah actually went along with Grandpa, and tried out the suitcase! Once he got zipped in there, he kinda freaked out, and realized he couldn't go. Good idea though :)
