Carnival Rap-up 2013

Caribana, now better known as The Scotia Bank Carnival is one of the hottest events to hit Toronto in the summer. For the 3rd year in a row, I was more than happy to be part of this years festivities.

It all started with the Kiddies Carnival. This had to be one of my favorite events thus far. Mini revellers as young as three, came dressed in their costume ready to hit the road. My tent was filled with little people sporting giant head pieces ready to get their faces painted.

This years winner was Toronto Revellers Once upon a time.. They're costumes where fairy tale inspired, one including Jack and the Bean Stalk. Check out these cute little bean stalks, aren't they adorable??

Next up was the King and Queen Competition, where all the Mas Bands compete for title of King and Queen of the Band. I was honoured to be chosen as part of the Toronto Revellers Mas Camp lead by Basketball Veteran and Toronto's own Jamaal Magloire.

I had the chance to work sided by side with award winning designer Brian MacFarlane, who designed all of the revellers costumes this year.

The icing on the cake were the parade activities on Lakeshore Boulevard. The Scotia Bank Carnival starting early Saterday August 2nd. The revellers came together bright and early, making 9AM feel like 12AM on a club night.

As music blared through speakers of the floats setting up, I had very little time to take in the many costumes as my Toronto Revellers mascaraders flooded the tent.

Although I did not see the parade, I had a great time meeting people from all over the world.

I would like to thank Jamal Maglore , his family and the Toronto Revelers for giving me the opportunity to work with them. A special thank you goes out to my sponsors Fufutel, Bell Auto, A.M.A. events Front Page management, and Strong Arm Ent.

Where the hell is MRS Makeup??

Its been months since my last entry. My life had suddenly become somewhat of a blur. After years of propelling myself forward doing makeup at shows and videos, writing, going to school, working nights, to fuel my passion during the day...I felt a strong urge to take a step back. What I loved had became a job. A job where I was overworked, underpaid and felt under valued. Worst was, it was starting to show!

Have you ever seen a hairstylist, or an makeup artist that has worked all day at the salon? Most wear no makeup, have no time to do their spruce themselves up and look like hell! Why? Because they had worked all day to make you fabulous! It was imperative that I to...just live! Not only did I want my fabulous self back, but I wanted to fall in love with myself and my craft again. And that's exactly what I have done...

My clientele no longer consist of only women but men as well! I have grown as a makeup artist, and now as a photographer and editor. I work out of an amazing studio, and have an extraordinary management team to stir me in the right direction.

Sometimes you have to take a step back to look forward. Sometimes you need silence to hear the noise. Loving your craft is like tunnel vision. All you see is your goal. Yes it does get you closer to your dream, but sometimes, like the great Van Gogh said: "I put my heart and soul into my work, and lost my mind in the process". It is easy to become obsessed with your goal, to the point of forgetingt your surroundings. You lose sleep, fail to enjoy life, and cease taking care of yourself, because your obsessed with becoming the best.

On my quest to find myself, I have been blessed to gain hands on experience studying the beauty industry and am building my resume as a business professional, working for one of the biggest beauty corporations. All of this without conforming to stuffy suits, sitting behind a desk..while wondering how to hide the blue streaks in my hair and covering my tattoos. This unique opportunity has opened my eyes to a whole new world. I can ones again see myself as an artist and appreciate the uniqueness that is me.

I thought, that my blog views would dwindle when I stopped writing. I thought people would stop calling when I slowed down on working. But instead, my phone has not stopped ringing, and the views of my diary are still rising. I would like to say thank you to the 20,000 for reading my diary and thos who have afford constant support.

Did I stop working my butt off? Did I stop doing makeup???? Hell no! But I have learned to work smarter, not harder. I find time to enjoy myself and the ones dear to me. Taking it one day at a time, while looking and feeling fabulous.

Kids Parties!

Its been a busy start to the new year. Im glad to announce that the Mrs Makeup website is back up. And this year its all about photography and kids parties! Since I have already helped raise money at school fundraisers, I thought it would be a great idea to host kids parties too. Now im making special appearances at birthday parties accross the G.T.A, entertaining the little ones.

From butterfly's to Spiderman and special request Nikki Minaj inspirations, the kids loved getting there face painted. I have also enlisted the help of my baker, photographer, and event decor friends to, offer parents a little something extra. This is an exciting new venture! I thank all of you, who have followed this diary from its first entry, and have witnessed my growth one blog at a time. I am absolutely flattered that this blog has been viewed over 16000 times! From the start of this blog to date, there has been a steady increase of great jobs coming my way. I hope that my diary helps to inspire many talented and gifted people to strive and be the best that they can be.

There is a saying that Americans have, that states " Ones you can make it in New York, you can make it anywhere". But I honestly believe that ones you make it in Toronto, You can make it anywhere. Toronto is one of the hardest towns to make it big. This city is full of unrecognized talent, waiting for their chance to shine. No matter where you are in Toronto, you will find someone working on perfecting their craft. There are so many people waiting to catch their big break, who really deserve a shot at living the dream. Toronto's talent has no boundaries, and I feel blessed to live amongst such a wide variety of beautiful and talented people.

This year couldn’t be possible without some very special people. A VISION in Progress : VIP

People always ask me..are you Jamaican, or African? Truth is, I have never been to either places. But this dutch girl has been lucky to have surrounded herself with enough of both cultures. to blend right in. The most exciting thing about being a makeup artist, is that you never know where it might take you. And for me it seems like it always pulls me back to the roots of Africa.

An Africans walk, speech and wardrobe is as colorful as its native tongue.The African culture is unique in the sense that its people bring a piece of home wherever they go. I have sponsored two of the biggest African pageants in Toronto: Ghana's most beautiful, and the Miss Africanada pageant. Until you have witnessed it for yourself, it is hard to put in words the essence of pride and beauty that is Africa.

Those who know me personally, can guarentee that this girl can knock back a couple pounds of Fufu. But I have never before heard of this new genre of music called HipLife. When I researched the topic I found that it is not just music but a way of life. Just like reggea, dance, and hip hop its in a class of its own.

VIP is one of HipLife's biggest groups to date. Promzy, Louzy and Prodical combined have garnered a millions of views on their YouTube videos. Together they are constantly on tour, performing at sold out shows world wide. As well as constantly finding ways to mix music with charity.

So while they were in Canada they teamed up with Sunset Productions, a steadily growing production team catering to the African community, who's past artist include Sarkodie and Atumpan.

Working with V.I.P was an experience to say the least. These guys traveled like real stars, Louboutins and Louise Vuitton suitcases lined the back of the car as they came to do a quick video before jetting off to their next destination. And although their clothes reeked of prestige, these boys were actually quite humble. Lazzy funny and outspoken, Promzy friendly and polite, and Prodical who was the quitest of all. They even kept their cool when some of the models showed up more then 2 hours unfashionably late! Thank goodness for Miss tiffy Bling who came on set dressed to impress and ready to perform as necessary.

It was a simple shoot with a little green screen and outdoor action. When it was all over I couldn't help but ask the boys to pose for me. Check it out!

Industry tips that might save your life.

I interrupt the usual community news and highlights to give you some useful insight.

If you have watched the news, you might have seen the story on wanna-be model Lucas Mignotta who killed a man and mailed his body parts out. Or remember model Amaima Airee Nelson who killed and ate her husband. The world is getting crazier, and striking closer and closer to home. Stories of photographers that rape naive models can be found all over the web. Most recently, an associate of mine got stabbed in an attempted robbery. These and other developments have, inspired me to give you some advice on the industry as I know it.

Although cannibals and murderers within the entertainment field are far in between, certain dangers are ever to present. If you dont have the slightes business savy, you can easily be taken advantage off. What would you do if a photographer touches you inappropriately? Or you do a job and people don't pay? It is with trial and error that I have learned the most valuable lessons, when it comes to business in the entertainment industry. Whether your a MUA, photographer, artist or videographer, there will always come a time where you will work with some unproffesional, professionals. It is important to beware of dangers and issues that can arise at anytime.

Here are 5 essential tips that can help you not only ensure you get payed, but may also potentially save your life.

The Un-Googable:

You have been invited to a video shoot or photo shoot. Who are the people involved? As I always say: Are you Googable? Do they have any proof of work they have done. If they don't have at least a Youtube page, FB fan page or a website, then be very skeptical. Never be afraid to ask questions: who is the artist, model, videographer, or other people involved? Then Google them too. It is important to know who your working with before you meet them. Be very weary of sites such a Kijiji and Craigslist, or ads that offer little information. Always find out as much as possible. Know who your working with before you meet.

Where am I meeting you?

Now that you have decided to go to a shoot. Make sure to get all the details. Unless you are doing a scene in a parking lot...``meet me in the plaza parking lot`` when your suppose to be working in a studio, might sounds suspicious because it is. Get a legitimate address, and look it up on Google maps. Google street view gives you a great real life view of the location and surroundings . If the location seems a little shady, most likely it is. Sometime there are photographers who don't want you to bring an extra person. This could be because the space he/she is using might be extra small, especially when other crew members are involved i.e. makeup artist , stylists, hairstylist. Make sure someone knows exactly where you are at all times. And if you get there and don't feel comfortable...LEAVE!!. It is not the end of the world, or the end of your career. Follow your intuition, because its always right!

Whats the theme of the day?

Whether its music or photography, every project has a theme. Its good to fine out what the story is behind the shoot. What will you be wearing, what will you be doing? Ask for a video treatment or a written outline of what will be happening for the day. Make sure you have a clear overview of what is going to take place. Go through all the details so you know what you are getting into. If you get on location and are asked to wear less or do more then what your suppose to, its OK to refuse. If you are told you were doing a head shot, and then asked to remove unnecessary articles of clothing, then its best to head to the nearest exit. Never do anything that makes you feel uncomfortable.

The space invader:

Every one has their level of comfort. A Photographer is allowed to tell you to fix a bra strap, but putting his hands on your butt and helping with a wedgy is definitely an invasion of space. If someone is getting to close for comfort, let them know, firmly and immediately that their actions are unacceptable. I have heard models speak of photographers inappropriate touches. Yes there are situations where touching might be in order. Like fixing hair or an ashy back that needs more then its fair share of lotion. If your the one behind the camera, then always ask if its OK to touch, however minor. Never make a person feel uncomfortable being in your presence. If your a model and you feel uncomfortable SPEAK UP. Tell the person running the shoot, or let other staff members know. They are usually closest to the producer or photographer and can help you voice your opinion if your afraid to say anything.

Sign on the doted line:

No matter what part of the biz your in, cancellations do occur. I have learned the hard way that contracts and/or deposits are in order. When you schedule an appointment to service a client, you might refuse other jobs to accommodate that client. Get a deposit to hold that spot. You can choose to hold it for their next appointment or use it as a cancellation fee. If they are serious about hiring you, they will pay the fee. Make sure there is a written agreement, between both parties involved on paper or worse case scenario through email. At least there is a paper trail encase you need to take legal action. Some people work of Grants. Unlike regular funding, in entertainment the payment is usually received when the project is complete. Whether you choose to wait for the grant is completely up to you. But coming from experience these things take a very long time. There is nothing more annoying then having to chase people down for your pay. I myself am still waiting on few for my loot. I know now to walk with my contract in hand, or email a copy for them to print, sign and hand over upon meeting. Get half of your cash in advanced, then ensure to establish a deadline for the rest of the payment, If they can afford a pizza party for 12 they can afford to pay your deposit fee. Leave a paper trail, by mailing a receipt, and make sure that it clearly states what balance is outstanding. If you want to add a late fee go ahead, after all you deserve to get paid. If your a model and sign a release form, know that your allowing those nude photos you took, to show up anywhere. Imagine that photo, popping up on your bosses laptop!

In this industry, you wont make it if you don't take risks. You have to be brave enough to put yourself out there, meet new people and go places you have never gone before. Sometimes you have to grant favors, to establish trust amongst you peers. But don't be afraid to put your foot down when it comes to whats most important: YOU.
Ask yourself: Is it worth the time? Will doing this gig help build my portfolio? A newcomer in entertainment cant expect to work with top celebrities right away. As a newbie be prepared to do allot of free labor. Just make sure every move you make worth your time and effort.
Its OK to let people know what you expect from them, what they are doing wrong, or most importantly to say NO if that's how you feel. Make sure they understand your time is valuable, time means money and you mean business. These are valuable lesson you learn, sadly for me through trial and error. I hope this advice will help you in your journey. Be safe, be wise, and never give up till you reach the top.

Jack of all trades and master of some..

You might be wondering where I've been so long. But with school and a thriving business, it sometimes gets hard to keep up. It has been a colorful ride thus far. Many exciting changes have occurred. Remember when I stated my interest in photography? My work has swiftly picked up, and with my makeup expertise I have been able to offer some special deals for my new and existing clients. Here are some of my favorite photos thus far:

There are many people that if you let them, can discourage you from your dreams and ideas. There's an old saying "Jack of old Trades, Master of none". But if you have more then one great talent , why settle for just that one? Many people go through life in jobs where they feel unhappy, often dreaming of the things they should have done. Can a doctor who has an amazing painting ability not sell fabulous paintings? Don't go through life wondering what you could have done but like Nike says "just do it!". Become a Jack of all trades, and master more then one. If it doesn't work out, saying that you've done it will be your biggest reward.

How does this relate to makeup? Think of life as a makeup pallet. Some people like plain colors, while others like using multiple shades. Sometimes you find shades that don't suit you. It doesn't mean that you shouldn't wear makeup. You just have to keep trying until you find a shade(s) that fits. I found 3 shades, how many can you find?

Peter Jackson and Karl Wolf #1 Fan

If you don't know who Peter Jackson is by now, you haven"t been reading my blog (shame on you!!).
He is one of the hardest working rappers in this city. Along side some of hip hop's biggest influences, he has toured the country a dozen times over. And when he's not on tour he's in the studio, making music good enough to make your head snap back....

Atleast..that's what my head did when I got the news that he was ready to film his video for #1 Fan along side Karl Wolf! With over a million views on Youtube, his song Africa has gone 3x platinum. His collaboration with Three Six Mafia on the song "Mash it up" has only been played on radio stations about a couple billion times, making him one of Canada's hottest artists.

Filmed by none other then G-dot Solo who's video views are also in the millions. Ones again ,I found my self on-set at an exclusive spot on the other side of town.
My favorite part of doing video's is of course meeting the models. Model's are like Forest Gumps box of choclates..you never know what your gonna get. Will their be drama? Will there be diva antics? One never knows what could happen when you put a group of girls together! (see upcoming blog for more info...trust me it gets juicy!)

But for this video, I couldn't have wished for a greater set of girls courtesy of Girls of Glam modelling agency. Coming as far as Hamilton these dedicated ladies gave it their all. There's something about the makeup up chair and table that seems to bring people together. The girls sat gathered around my table and within a few second, you would think they had known each other forever.

Peter always gets support wherever he goes and it is always good to see some familiar faces.| Amongst those stopping by included: rapper and athlete Brett Williams as well as Toronto artists Kisco and Breezy.

But it was Karl Wolf, who came on set with a energy that was so contagious it lit up the room. You would think that someone with more then 50,000 twitter followers and 360k likes on Facebook would be a little conceited or shallow. Karl was humble, friendly and very charming and he made staff including the models feel at ease. Together with Peter and the rest of cast they made the set feel like a club on Saterday night.

Peter and Karl made a great team and both turned their "swag" up, when it came to playing dress up.

Sports jackets and G-shocks seemed to be the style of choice and as an accessory...beautiful models. Check out this exclusive pic I captured of these two serenading the ladies.

Backstage with Rapper Belly and Actress/Model Veronica London

Last month I had the opportunity to work with another amazing rapper this side of the border.
Not only is he a Juno award winner and four time Much Music nominee, but has also scored a Gold selling album. Most recently known for his collaberation with rapper Snoop Dogg for the song entitled
'I drink, I smoke', rapper Belly was in Toronto filiming another video for his mixtape The Greatest dream I never Had.

The video losing my religion is based upon a girl, who was ones on top of the world in the music biz, loses it all and ends up going insane. The female role was played by non other then the beautiful model/actress Veronica London.

Not only is Veronica a Maxim model but has also starred in many films and TV series, including Jane Doe along side Vivica A. Fox.

Sporting newly colored fiery red hair and played her role to perfectly! From the a singer in the booth to playing a junky in the alleyways, she definetly rocked it.

Belly played a minimal roll on this perticular day shooting only one scene in the studio. He did however stop for a photograph with me before his speedy exit.

It was definitely an interesting evening to say the least, but as always I had a great time. Special thanks goes out to Aisha Chacha of owner of Chacha Cosmetics and my personal hairstylist, BG owner of Hair Wee Go for assisting me with the hair styling.

In other news: I will be makeup sponsor for the biggest male revue to hit the city, brought in part by my favorite clothing line Alter Ego Clothing.

Hype Hair and Today`s Black womens Couture Fashion show

Who knew the first month of the new year would be so eventful? Blackmen Magazine, Todays Black women magazine, and Hype Hair magazine are some of the most popular magazines for men and women of color. And on January 14th, 2012 they held their Couture fashion show in New Jersey, New York city.

I was honored to join the girls of Chacha cosmetics and hairstylists backstage of the Marriot hotel Ballroom.

The room was jam packed with more then 30 models, designers, photographers and of course racks upon racks of couture suits and gowns.

Between makeup applications I got the chance to spy around a bit. In the lobby, there were vendors showing off their hand made soaps and jewelries, and hair products. I found the most amazing bracelet and shoulder piece for my jewelry collection.

The designers made sure all the models were fitted with their gowns. And in the ballroom they practiced their runway walk.

After 5 long hours the models were finally ready to walk the cat walk.

Designers included Nevets Couture, and Willie Hall Couture. All the models looked amazing, and the design were out of this world!

Working in New York was a great opportunity for me, special thanks goes out to Aisha Chacha of Chacha Cosmetics and Photographer Glenn Parson for the runway pics. After all was said and done I finally got the chance to enjoy the bright lights and big city. What`s next for Mrs Makeup? You`ll just have to wait and see.

A night at the Aroni Awards

On Saturday December 6th, I had the wonderful opportunity to witness one of the biggest award nights in our community, the 6th annual Aroni Awards. For one night only, the Aroni Award Show pays homage to the unsung heroes that walk amongst us. Through leadership, education and motivating, these people have all made a positive impact on many of the youth in our community. Aroni also offer 3 very special individuals a bursary to continue their education in their field of study.

Taking place at the beautiful Arcadian Court in the midst of the downtown core. One couldn't ask for a more beautiful venue to house this sold out event. After getting my client Nikki Clarke ready for the night, I got the chance to watch everything unfold. Over looking the stage and the crowds below, the top level of the venue had a special place for the kids. Dressed in their best, they came out in full force to honour their peers.

Downstairs, the cameras rolled as nominees, dignitaries and artists, made their way down the yellow carpet. Amongst those were artists: Subliminal, Natasha Waterman, Dru, young piano prodigy Anne Zhou , Tap Dancer Shawn Byfield Warran Salmon, The Wine Ladies, The Toronto Dymes girls, photographer Belinda Kamshuka Dr Vibe and Rapper Subliminal just to name a few.

But the real show stopper was presenter Jay Martin! Calling himself Super Dread, he graced the stage wearing dreads, and a full spandex Superman costume.

Later on in the night both Mr. Martin himself and the painting of bursary recipient Michael Monize were auctioned off for a whopping $900 in total, with all proceeds going to charity.

I had a great night! Had the chance to see some amazing performances. Also, I had the chance to meet some familiar faces, and some amazing new people. Overall I felt honoured to be amongst such an influential and inspiring crowd of individuals

What started out as a tribute to youth mentor Aron Y. Haile, who died tragically in 2003, has for 6 consecutive years changed the lives of potential young leaders of tomorrow. This award show has reminded me that it is not always about receiving, but also about giving back. If you own a skill or have a special talent, find ways to use your skills to make a difference in the lives of others. To be a volunteer is a good way to gain experience in your field and build a resume.

A day with Chacha Cosmetics at the National Women's Show

Chacha Cosmetics is a new Canadian based luxury makeup brand and also offers a unique collection of eyeshadows, lipglosses and primers. Created by model/makeup artist Aisha Chacha, Chacha cosmetics has done faces of many models on runways in Canada and the United States.
So when I got the invite to work with her on The National woman show, I could not dare say no.

Sponsoring the Rent Frock Repeat fashion show , I met up with Aisha and the other makeup artists downtown Toronto. Rent Frock Repeat offers ladies on a budget, the chance to wear high end couture dresses at a fraction of the retail price. All you need to do is sign up, search through a vast amount of amazing dresses, rent the one you wish to wear, and after you wear it..bring it back!

Racks of couture dresses lined the walls backstage including dresses by Badgily Mischka and Nicole Miller. We had a great variety of beautiful models including model and Miss Eternity 2nd runner up Kaila Izzard who's makeup I had done in the past. Aisha provided us with face charts that when completed, complimented the models perfectly.

In front of a crowd full of women, the girls rocked their frocks down the runway. Seeing the faces that we did work the runway, made us smile like proud mama bears!

After the show I had the chance to look around and check out some other exhibitors. Inspire cosmetics, Vasanti, Gella, Smash Box and of course Curl Solutions were also there to give out free makeovers.

But the real star of the show was Eric Braeden a.k.a Mr. Victor Newman from the show Young and the Restless. He had women gushing over him like he was Justin Beiber.!

The Bead for Health launch party.

Bead for Health has been a great success for Nikki Clarke. The Bead for Health book is already circulating in Chapters and Indigo bookstores throughout Canada. And her one-of-a-kind jewelry designs have made appearances on ETalk, and Rogers Television. Nikki has been super busy, hosting the Live with Trevor an Nikki show every Thursday, aiding in organizing the Aroni awards and traveling across the country. So busy in fact, that the her book launch and recent Bead for Health store, had yet to be celebrated the way it should be.

What better way to celebrate then with friends, beautiful models and good food?!

With dim red lighting, and the aromatic scent of fresh roasted coffee beans wafting through the air,

one couldn't ask for a more comfortable setting then that of Rendez-vous restaurant.

After I got models Banita and Carly ready to present Nikki's latest jewels, I got the chance to take in not only the restaurants comfy setting, but the amazing food as well. Offering everything from familiar sweet cakes to authentic Ethiopian dishes, there was something to satisfy even the most critical palette.

It was also the second time I witnessed the Bead for Health jewelry disappear at such an alarming rate! I had my eye one the blue feathered earrings but before I could makeup my mind, a lady scooped theme up. Within two hours every last piece of jewelry were sold out.

Loads of people came out to support the book and store launching. Including founder of the Black Music Association and Nikki's Co-host Trevor Shelton and owner of The Fashion District Sherryl Lynn Petrie.

I had a great time, my models looked fab , scored a beautiful Bead for Health bracelet, and as always to met some great new people.

Logik Dat Lad is King of the Castle

I Know what you might be thinking. Here we go, another rapper in a hip hop video.
But Logik dat Lad has a unique type of swag. He doesn't have chains hanging low, or a thug-style demeanor. Instead he has a warm, and gentleman-like disposition, with lyrics that flow as naturally as the beads he was spotted wearing aroumd his neck.

As part of Cut Throats Entertainment, he has opened for Wu Tang, KRS One, Joe Budden as well as fellow Canadian rapper Choclair. This time he has teamed up with female rapper Duch Dillinger for "Party Girl" off his Debut EP New School Cool, produced by RichKidd.

When promoter Bills contacted me to do makeup for Logik's new video "Party girl" I was more then excited. I didn't know what to expect when I stepped on set that day. And im not sure if the models and other cast member did either as they waited patiently for the director to role tape.

I'm sure they thought they would be dancing and do the expected "video girl" thing. But when director Rome decided to role tape, they were asked to do Cartweels, backflips and dive headfirst into a bouncy castle! It was like Cirque de Soleil came to the backyard of Withby as Logik's "Party girl" track rocked the neigbourhood.

You know who else rocked it? Duch Dillinger, with firy red hair, platform heels and spiked gloves. Doesn't she remind you of a mix between Gwen Stephanie, Fergie and Lady Gaga???

Many came out for support , and KingCutt of Cut Throats Ent. provided custom sweaters for all the cast members . Even Peter Jackson and producer Rich kidd came out to for their cameo.

Can Logik tell you that his debut album will reign supreme?? I think that will be up to the listeners to decide. But as you can see he did have the party girls bouncing.

If this was the land of the New School Cool, then Logik Dat Lad is the King Of The Castle.

Unzipped Demon face Tutorial

I was looking for a crazy concept for Halloween when I stumbled upon the video of a gentleman who did an unzipped face. I wanted to find out how he did it, but he refused to divulge his information. So I decided to put my own swing on things by adding a little more horror to the makeup. And since I want everyone to look as pretty as I did in the final picture, I am going to tell you exactly how to do this yourself.

Items you need:

Stage Blood! ( I love Mehron stage blood for its extra sticky texture)
Liquid Latex
Scar wax
Spirit gum
2colors of foundation. 1 to match your skin, another a shade darker
eyeliner (gel-liner is prefered)
Ben Nye's Vampire colour wheel. (if you have this you don't need gel-liner since it has the black shade you can use)
(You can also use dark red lipstick and gel liner instead of buying the color wheel!!)
A long metal zipper (you can always cut it if its too long)
Fangs
Contact lenses
Paint brush to appy liquid latex, foundation brush, spatula (or fingers ) to use with scarwax

Step 1. Make an outline of where you want the zipper to be. From the front of your forhead to the back of your ears. Keep your mouth open just a bit. Remember you want to be able to speak, when your done

Step2. Cover outline with spirit gum, then start placing metal zipper on top of spirit gum
Wait 5 minutes for it to dry pressing lightly

Step3. Place more spirit gum on edges of zipper. Then start covering area with scar wax. (this helps to blend the space from the zipper's edge to your face.

Step4. Cover Wax with liquid latex using a brush and then let dry.

Step5. You are now ready to start with your foundation. Start with a darker foundation to cover your cheeks forhead and eyes. Use the lighter color to contour around the zipper area to create dept.

Step6. Outline your eyes with blackliner and darken your eyebrows. Then smudge the edges. Remember it doesnt have to be perfect

Step 7.outline the inside of the zipper with the black shade of Ben Nye's color wheel (or use gel liner) with a brush. From tip of nose to neck

Step 8. Use Ben Nye's red color shade ( or red lipstick) to color the rest of the area around the lips and nose all the way down to the neck

Step 9. Add as much blood as possible.

Your now ready to put your fangs and contact lenses on!

This makeup took me about an hour and a half to complete. It might take a little longer, but take your time and you will have no problem completing this look.

A Millionaire Lifestyle charity event

Designer Sarah Gwan is starting to create some buzz around her Millionaire Lifestyle Clothing line. So much so, that InWithTheHype promotions asked Sarah to come to Niagara for a fashion show. What better place to host Millionaire Lifestyle clothing's, first fashion show than at The Bank Lounge in Niagara Falls?

The upscale club is exactly what the millionaire lifestyle is all about, not only does the VIP have lushes leather furniture, but the walls display big murals of Canadian dollar bills.
It was great to see some familiar faces again, Photographer Courtney Nicole, Lucky 73 and StrongArmEnt were there to capture background footage. Models Lola, SkinnyBuck and Stevie Nicks the original Millionaire models were there, accompanied by some pretty new faces, who came as far as Buffalo to model the brand.

With 2 makeup artist and 2 hairstylist on board, we got more then 10 girls ready in no time, including designer Sarah Gwan (pictured above fanning herself with a stach of MLC 100 dollar bills).

And with so much extra time to spare, all photographers got the chance to take some amazing pictures before the show.

The event went well, and all proceeds were donated to the Keep-A-Breast foundation.

Updates and Thank you's

It has been almost a month since my last post but it has been a very busy month its been. I have had the chance to meet with some of my favorite clients, and some amazing new people along the way. Here is an update on what's been happening this month.

Nikki Clarke has teamed up with Trevor Shelton for the "Live with Trevor Shelton and Nikki Clarke" show. Every thursday at 6pm at www.thatchannel.com you can catch them Live on the net, dishing on the latest trendy topics. Last weeks guest included: Elaine Spencer, Dan Cohen, Frances D'Amico, AHI, Jean Paul, Linda Stephenson,Tammy Whelan and Garlan Maxwell-Frith. And me, backstage as Nikki's Makeup artist!

B.T.W!!! The bead for health boutique is already open but the official opening gala is October 27, 2011. I will be there to do the makeup for the models! Please check the event section of this blog for further details and come out to support this very talented lady!!

To me, the most satisfying part of being a makeup artist, is to see your clients happy. When she picks up that mirror and looks at herself in awe, you know it is a job well done. Since this month has been a wirl-wind of event , I havent had the chance to take my usual spy-cam pictures But with the help of technology some of the lovely ladies I have worked with this month, have uploaded their best pictures of my work for me to share.

Remember that I mentioned my desire to pursue photography?? I have had mixed reviews over my decision to do so. Some have mentioned distain, others have welcomed my desicion with open arms, and some....I have never heard from again since I started. But I have pushed ahead with full force and scored some photography gigs of my own.

The first was for a mystery lady who hired me for some portfolio work but has chosen to remain nameless for this blog.

As well as makeup and photography work for one of my favorite models Kimmy Palmer, pictured here modelling an Alter Ego corset.

I love my new found talent and will continue to perfect my new skill. Who knows where this road will take me, but I am excited to find out!

It is now the official end of the thanksgiving weekend as I write this blog. I want to send a special thanks to all the amazing people I have met on my journey. Together we went on a road trip to meet up with the girls of Sassy Ent. in downtown Ottawa for a Corset Party at the Arc Hotel.

My Alter Ego

Sometimes you have to take time out for enjoyment and self discovery. For most of August, that is exactly what I did. I took a vacation, spent time with loved ones and celebrated my birthday. Instead of taking life by the horns, I let life take me where it wanted me to be. (Dont get bored, this will all make sense soon!!)

For my birthday I wanted a special outfit. I searched the mall from top to bottom but couldnt find anything to suit my personality. Then I remembered Alter Ego Clothing (who also designed that wicked neck piece for Ghanas Most beautiful Vanesssa). I made a few emergency phone calls and got intouch with designer Uche Nwagbo. When I tried on my first corset I was hooked! And have been wearing Alter Ego Clothing to all of my parties.

I also knew I wanted to shoot with Uche. So we brainstormed concepts and gathered models. But one day before our photoshoot, the photographer cancelled. Photographer Tosin was there to save our day, showing up to do some emergency studio shots.

I had my own agenda. With four beautiful models at hand, who all were dressed to kill and with their makeup and hair already done. How could I resist not stealing them for my own personal use? I always love taking pictures. My readers, those who have worked with me, and even my friends and family know, I dont leave my bathroom without taking pictures (of myself). Its what my blog is all about. Pictures and dialogue right?!. After doing makeup, and hair on all the models, I stole them away to test my photography skills.

This photoshoot made me realize, that you never know what direction life could take you. Im not a photographer but I did do pretty good (if i should say so myself). Could this be the start of something new? I loved shooting these girls! They all did well posing for my rookie lense. Thank you to all the models for trusting my vision. But most of all, thank you Uche for helping me find my Alter Ego in more ways then one.

Backstage..Poppin Bottles with Brett Williams aka "Bowx" and Peter Jackson

Whats in the air over there in Ajax? Whatever it is, its gotta be good. Im starting to think that I live on the wrong side of the city. That little town is a breathing ground for talent it seems..Graphic Designers, Models, Rappers and.....Hockey players?

Brett Williams a.k.a Bowx is a 10 year pro-hockey veteran from Ajax, ON, who not only knows how to work a stick (no pun intended), but also knows how to rock the mic...and then some! Word around town is he has sold over 70,000 CD's thus far. So why not team up with rapper Peter Jackson another Ajax native for the "Poppin Bottles" remix, of 9-0-Nickel Entertainment's Tussin Mixtape.

With food, liqour and beautiful bodies everywhere, the day couldn't be more perfect for a BBQ pool partied themed video with Videographer Duxx of Concrete Gorilla.

When I was finished with my touchups I got to scope out the scene from a distance.

Peter and Brett both did they're solo shots, surrounded by all the beautiful models.

After everyone got acquainted, it looked like

they've known each other forever.

Maybe a little too well........................?

With no complaints from me ofcourse! Makeup and water don't mix that well. So when bottles really started popping..

I knew my job was done! Giving me the chance to finally enjoy some BBQ chicken!

Ghana's most beautiful, and Miss Africanada 2011

Its been a little hectic in my makeup world. So much that I havent had the chance to show you what happend at the GHMB 2011 pageant.

First I must give a special thanks to pageant co-ordinator Ms Constance and Nana Yeboah (not pictured here because she was to busy running around) for putting the whole pageant together.

The venue was filled to capacity, leaving people to stand along the walls.
I think I went through a whole tube of lipgloss and half a pallete of blush that night, just to make sure the girls were at their best. Backstage was overcrowded with family members who squeezed into our little space to insure the girls had everything they needed at hand. Clothes were flying everywhere!!The show went at such a fast pace, I had limited time to work the camera.

But with the little bit of time I did have, I managed to capture the girls primping for show time.

My favorite dresses were Nikki's beautiful pink creation,

and Vanessa's short number (she had her image printed into the train!! Now thats Swag!)

Contestant Kelly had the most beautiful skin (makeup artists love good skin!), that combined with her costume almost made her look regal in her dress.

Contestant Marlece was the calmest of the bunch and went for a more classic dress.

Becky`s bubbly personality matched her frilly dress perfectly, and her smile was always on point, on and off the stage.

But most suprising of all was miss DeeDee (Dorinda), who completely came out of her shell from the last time we met. It was almost like she turned on a diva light switch!

I didnt have the chance to take pictures of all the girls but they all did very well.

The pageant was a huge success and while the girls all gave it their all, their could only be one winner: Miss Vaness Otuo!!

Who by the way was also the winner of the Pageant photoshoot challenge may I add!

The Millionaire lifestyle clothing shoot

Sarah Gwan is a graphic designer from Toronto who specializes in print, logos and corporate branding. Now she is trying her hand at fashion designing. I believe has succeeded in a major way. With her Kush Bubble Gum T'shirts and Millionaire Lifestyle logos she's definetly on to something. Quotes like "Business, never personal" and "Rich Bitch" give the T'shirt line for both men and women, crazy mass appeal.
When she asked Mrs Makeup to not only do makeup but, help come up with a great concept, I jumped at the chance. So we decided we needed loads of color, toys pretty models and of course plenty of dollar bills, to pull it all off.

Meeting up with Sarah Gwan at the Gladstone Hotel. Courtney Nicole Photography brought her model entourage which included models Stevie Nicks, Lola Rae, Skinny Buck, Mason Fox and rapper Joel Naggy. Strong Arm TV cwas also their to aptured background footage.

Its one thing to think of a great concept but another to see it all come together. In the first shot, we wanted the models makeup to be loaded with color both on the face and with the clothes. After I did the makeup, Sarah let me style the girls as well. Sarah brought enough clothes for me to go crazy, so I choose long socks, suspenders and short shorts for all the girls.

The girls did an amazing job,but Mason and Joel also brought their personal touch of millionaire swag.

For the second part it was yellow, gold, black and white. The models did a great job acting out the scenes. Doesnt it look like they won the lottery?

We had a wonderful time at this shoot. Sarah Gwan did am awesome job of putting this shoot together. Thanks to all the models for following my (sometimes bossy) direction. From the looks of Courtney Nicole's leaked pictures, the final edits will be fire

Caribana time again!

Its that time again! The parade now know as the Scotia Bank Caribean Festival, is back again. As usual I will be doing makeup for this years event. Check out the makeup and face painting I did on these revelers last year.

On my money with K-fresh and Baby Ghryme

K-Fresh and his co-star Baby Ghryme are at it again. The latest song "On My Money" feat Jimmy Fresh, is their hottest record to date. Mixing a downsouth beat with a sing-a-long hook for the ladies, it is gaurenteed to get crowds moving.

The set, ones again had a wide variety of industry people.

Even Jimmy Fresh came by for his cameo and from what it looks like he's channeling his inner P.i.m.p with that new look (was that a perm?).

Singer Shay was there in full leopord print as Ghryme's sidekick.
But the real head turner was Baby Ghryme, who came onset rocking a completely different look.

Gone were her beautiful long dreads, now replaced by short multi-colored twists. With her new gained sex appeal, we had no choice but to go crazy with the makeup as well. Starting with purple eyeshadow, we quickly went from flirty pink to shocking blue. Could it be that the usual tomboy has channelled her inner Diva?? Whatever the case, BG rocked it.

This was one of many days of filming. From motorcycles, to beachfronts and smoke-machines, it looks as like it will be an interesting video. Are they on the money? We'll just have to wait and see.

Back stage with the Miss Eternity 2011 finalists

The name screams pageant but, with a fushion of models, designers and fashion, its a model and designer competition like no one in Toronto has done before. For the second year in a row, models compete in the Miss Eternity Fashion Showcase for the ultimate title of Miss Eternity 2011.

Invited to be one of the makeup artist on set for the promo shoot, I got to meet all the pretty models up close and personal. Some were shy and quiet, while others displayed moments of shear Diva-tude (not mentioning any names).

MafiaPhotography was on site as the photographer for the evening. Director/Co-ordinator Temo Primrose Gare was the best hostess, not only making sure the girls were fitted with the cutest summer dressed, but also insuring we were well fed.

I had a great time, mingling with the girls, some of who are fairly new at modelling and others who have been at it for years. From what I have seen so far the competition seems fierce!

With a such a diverse set of girls, the only way to decide a winner would be to go to the show.
