     I just want to thank the Scientologists for their part in this, but we Atheists are no longer the most negatively viewed "spiritual group"! According to the most recent Gallop poll we are only the second most hated group now.

     Now come on guys! We've got to get that top spot back, where's all that baby eating? Ask yourself this, are YOU sacrificing enough goats to do your part? Stop all that volunteering and donating blood and money!

     Since I'm sure they had a hand in it, good job Anonymous..

You run a third time! Apparently, Alan Keyes has decided that the Republicans weren't batshit enough for him. You might recognize this guy from his humiliating defeat when he ran against Sen. Obama for an open seat in the Senate. Dr. Keyes is now in talks about possibly joining the Constitution Party and running for President on their platform.

For those of you too lazy to read the wiki article here's why they are crazy:

"The Constitution Party advocates a Bible-based platform which it claims to reflect original intent of the U.S. Constitution and the principles of the U.S. Declaration of Independence."

The intent of the founding fathers was to establish a theocracy? Oh I get it, that's why

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion..."

is in the first sentence in the First Amendment. You see, the intent was "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, other than Fundamentalist Christianity". It's all right there plain to see, right? NO!

No! No! No! Bad evangelical Xtains. If your reading comprehension is that low you had better stay the hell away from my Congress. Let me guess, that single sentence isn't enough for you. Here's another

"As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen.."

That's Article 11 of the Treaty of Tripoli from 1797. Written by John Adams, a founding father.

I'm tired of these right-wing religious bastards trying to steal my country from me while I'm busy defending it..

Third-Class Citizens?

Everyone knows that Atheists are basically second-class citizens. We can't run for political office with any hope of winning, we can't even spend money without seeing “In God we trust”. We are trusted the least out of any faith-oriented group in America, even less than the group associated with the gang that decided to run two jetliners into the Twin Towers and kill 3000 people. I can't even take a shit at work without running into a chick tract in the stall at least once a week.

So what about military members? Sure we get discounts at Hot Topic, Qdoba's, IHOP, and Denny's. Free college? Sure, if you're not too busy working twelve hour shifts or training, because you have a six month deployment rotation. Free or cheap stuff is all fine and dandy but what about getting a two week notice for a deployment to the sand box, when you have a family? Or not being allowed to go to protests, or it being illegal for us to say something negative about the President, not to the press, just publicly? Are we not allowed to have opinions of our own? Gay and in the military? Better not tell a soul or your ass is fired. But but but, you can be gay all you want, you just can't have gay sex either, at least according to the UCMJ.

I hear people say we're just as bad as the administration that put us in Iraq, because of those Marines at Haditha, or the couple of Army guys that raped that girl in Baghdad. Those are terrible things indeed, but just like Christians say not all of them are like the pieces of shit at Westboro Baptist Church most military members are amazing people with good hearts, who signed up because we wanted to make the world a better place, or at least our nation a safer one.

Alright, so Atheists are second-class, military members might be second-class, what's your point Charred? Well, what about Atheist military members? Once we get that deployment notice we know we're in for a trip. We're over there avoiding insurgent sniper fire and IEDs outside the wire, then we get back to the base to have chaplains pound scripture into our heads while we stand at attention able to do nothing because they are part of the office corp. And when we have the chance to defend ourselves from the proselytizing and discrimination our supposed battle-brothers threaten to frag us for it.

Even with all of this clearly going on in America today, I still love my country more than any other. I know this nation has so much potential, if we can just get past petty feuds and realize it. We may be a little far off right now, but I will be here to do my part to drag this country kicking and screaming into the modern world of tolerance and freedom..

Atheist Morality..

     This seems to be a common topic among Atheist bloggers. However, I feel that it is important at this point in time for every one of us to do something like this. We are a minority and the public perceives us in a negative light because we don't have a sky daddy of our own to punish us for our wrong doing. If only our morality was judged by the size of our representative population in prison..

     First, I'd like to state that I'm still defining what it means to be moral to myself. Like any rational being, whose morals aren't written      in a contradictory manner in a 2000 year old book, I'm still trying to figure out what is objectively right and wrong. Would you kill 10 to save 100? If a child was running at you with a suicide vest intent on detonating it in your vicinity would you shoot them? Is pirating music immoral?

     When I was younger I wasn't a very moral person. I did whatever I could get away with. I was very nihilistic. Eventually, I came to realize society couldn't function like that, I began to understand the importance of morality. Not believing in a god (I didn't know what an Atheist was yet) meant that I wasn't bound to any specific set of morals, I found my own as I went. Some were very obvious, killing for instance. But what if someone gave me too much change back when purchasing something? It's their own fault that they can't do math, right? It's still stealing though.Over time, I developed my own evolving moral code along with coming to grok Atheism. Then I found out that during my moral exploration I had managed to become a Secular Humanist without even knowing what it was..

     When I'm not busy serving my country, I volunteer with a few local homeless organizations, everything from helping to organize fundraisers to re-tiling their pantry's floor. I am a moral Atheist, without any god or demon watching over me or threatening to send me to some dimension of endless torture, and I'll let you in on a little secret, we are just as moral as anyone else, except we divorce less.. :)
