Have Patience – the Correct Way

Have patience - introduction

Are you in a hurry to get somewhere? Are you hurting your chances of getting there by being impatient? Are you being patient with your dreams or mistaking passivity for patience?

Being patient is a necessity to a life of achievement because it is the nature of things and the law of time that you cannot immediately reap where you have sown. Anything worthwhile takes time to grow and mature. So your dreams too require this time of nurturing and growth. It is during this time, when the fruits of your labour may not be evident, that your patience is most required.

Have patience – don’t just wait

There is a proverb that goes “all good things come to those who wait.” It is a well-known saying which holds a lot of truth. But, I have come to learn, it is a saying that is flawed, in that it is incomplete.

Waiting alone is not enough. Good things do not come to those who wait. Good things come to those who wait, but who also actively do something about their situation whilst they are waiting. If waiting was all it took to have good things in life everyone could achieve their dreams because waiting is effortless. Good things rarely come effortlessly.

Have patience – passivity is not patience

Passivity is a habit that must never be confused with patience. In this country passivity is one of our biggest weaknesses. This manifests itself not only in personal lives without any real direction and conviction, but also in our politics, and our moral and ethical standards. Patience is not passively waiting for things to change. “That is laziness. But to keep going when the going is hard and slow - that is patience.”

So if you are simply being passive and patiently waiting for a brighter tomorrow you need to think twice about your strategy. Patience goes hand in hand with consistent action. It is easy to be patient when you are doing something about your situation because then you are in control and you are able to determine the progress made despite the seeming lack of tangible results.

Have patience – avoid procrastination and fear

Linked to passivity is procrastination and fear. George Jackson said “Patience has its limits. Take it too far, and it's cowardice.” This is very true in that quite a few people actually fear doing something and hide in the assumption that they are being patient and simply waiting for the right time to come in order to do something. But, we all know, that procrastination is a thief of time. It should never be confused with being patient.

Have patience – a painful lesson

In the book “Think and Grow Rich” Napoleon Hill tells a story with the title “three feet from gold.” It’s about a man who found a piece of land that had promising gold deposits, After convincing some relatives and friends he managed to get enough money to buy the machinery necessary to mine the gold ore.

But a few weeks later, having initially hit some gold deposits, he lost the vein of gold ore. Desperately, he and his colleagues drilled to try and find the vein of gold deposits again. But to no avail. Eventually, after digging many weeks, he decided to quit.

He sold the machinery to a junk man for a few hundred dollars and went back home. Luckily, the junk man was smart. He got a mining engineer to come and look at the mine. The engineer made some calculations and showed the junk man that the person he bought the machinery from had quit just three feet away from where the gold deposits were. Had he continued digging he would have found the gold. The junk man had truly struck it rich and made millions of dollars in ore from the mine.

This story illustrates very well the Chinese proverb that “One moment of patience may ward off great disaster. One moment of impatience may ruin a whole life.”

Have patience – handle setbacks and temporary defeat

Setbacks and defeats will come on the journey to achieving your dreams. At such times, patience is what is required. Carl Jung observed that “Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness, and the word happy would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness. It is far better to take things as they come along with patience and equanimity.”

Do not ever let life’s up and downs make you lose track of your goals and panic, as the gold mine owner did. In that panic he missed to do one simple thing that could have changed the entire outcome of his misadventure. That was simply to get a professional opinion from a qualified person. You too, could be that close to success.

Have patience – don’t look to others

But do not judge your success based on other peoples success. One of the things that make people impatient is seeing other people getting ahead faster than they are. This is especially true if they started off at the same time and with the same resources and opportunities. A common example is people that went to college or university together. Commonly, there is uneasiness when someone is moving ahead in their career and achieving more things. At such times it is easy to leave your plan and seek a “shortcut” to success.

But this should not be the case. In order to have patience it is necessary that you know what your plan is and where you are headed as an individual. There are many ways to achieve any one thing. The trick is to stick to your own plan when others around you seem to be getting ahead much faster than you. Yes, they may be enjoying more success than you, but you know nothing about where they are ultimately headed. Why should your path and your direction be determined by what others are doing? Be patient with your own plans and your own dreams.

Have patience - conclusion

Most of all learn to be patient with yourself. You are not perfect and you will make mistakes along the way. But understand that you are on the right track and headed in the right direction, however many mistakes and setbacks you may encounter on the way. And remember; don’t just look forward to reaching the destination. Enjoy the journey too.

You are all you can be. Go on and be it.

Rockstar Songs Review (2011, A R Rahman, Mohit Chauhan)

Rockstar starts with Mohit Chauhan singing Phir se ud chala. The song, that starts with a relatively light mood and gets a breezy effect from Mohit, like the words of the song, gets remixy by the end, actually a nice experiment that will catch on slowly. One very interesting part of the song, though, was the background vocals in the beginning and end.

Jo bhi main kehna chahoon, barbaad karen alfaaz mere. Frankly, I am a fan of this one line written by Irshad Kamil. And then A R Rahman in an experimental mood, composing like there is someone actually singing at a concert. And Mohit Chauhan singing that. I don’t think there was anything more required, but still, the song has a lovely video as an add-on. Seems I wrote a lot just praising the song, but guess it’s worth that. Do listen.

Katiya Karoon. Dangerous words. Rocking

music. And superb vocals by Harshdeep. If she has managed to be not famous even after Rang De Basanti, this time Rahman is definitely gonna make her known. DO listen.

is once again Rahman at his regular divine stuff. I sometimes wonder how Rahman is so easily able to create such wonderful songs in the same segment, one after the other, and all of them equally great. Yes, good is a small word here.

The next, Sheher mein, is a Very exceptional number, where one person tells how to sing, that is what to do, followed by lines, followed by Ranbir that is Mohit singing them again. While Karthick sings the song as a regular singer, Mohit takes every line in a stylish mood and you just enjoy the difference.

Hawa hawa, featuring Rahman’s Foreign language gang with Mohit Chauhan, has an Arabian touch in its music and arrangements, while Mohit again sings with some more experimentation. Wondering how much of experiment is going to be there with his voice in just one album. Not a quick catch, may be interesting with a video though, as the song has some interesting words with a conversational style.

Aur HO, the next song, that begins with Alma Ferovic’s voice, is the first true rock number of the album. Even though the background of the song is quite light in most of the song and has a very familiar Rahman touch, but Mohit’s voice gets incredibly high in some places, like an all new rockstar. Do listen for a nice glimpse of that old Rahman.

Rahman and Mohit’s O Naadan Parindey, which is already a lovely composition in itself, has got a LOT of experimentation done by Rahman in background and foreground, and unless you listen to the song a few times you’ll find a song a little difficult to follow. But whatever you do or do not, make sure you listen to Kaaga re kaaga re part sung by Mohit. Lovely, no, Very lovely one.

When I heard the 30 second preview of Kavita Krishnamurthy Subramaniam’s Tumko pa hi liya, I thought of it as a very regular song, and was wondering if Rahman should have given it to Madhushree to making it a little more interesting.

I was wrong.

Rahman makes a lovely slow number with a nice, light Indian-Western fusion with a lot of Tabla, while Kavita just sings the slow, long melody in the foreground. A song that will take some hours to get on, and a lot, lot more to get off.

Next to next after tum ko, comes tum ho, almost the same tune sung by Mohit Chauhan, with all different style and arrangements, so much so that it’s difficult to guess its the same song if you’re listening to both for the first time. Mohit sings the song much more beautifully, but not taking much away from Kavita’s version as what she sings is again equally different.

Tango for Taj, the three minute instrumental, is a common, but nice, and to some extent engaging track that one would actually like to dance on. While Dichtomy of Fame, based on Shehnai and guitars, is one instrumental piece in long time I really liked, even though I don’t think I have much of an ear for instrumental pieces.

The last track, The Meeting Place, is rendition of a single sentence by Ranbir, based on Rumi’s poem. All I have to say is that if they had not given this one, people probably would ask for it after watching the movie.

And if you are wondering where is Sadda Haq, it’s between Kavita’s Tum ko, and Mohit’s Tum ho, but had decided to avoid until the end. Have still to play it.

Orianthi. Superb guitars from the first second.

Besides that, I don’t know much about Sadda Haq aithe rakh. The song is completely anthem-ish. And it gives you a high like it should, even though the best part of the song is already listened by almost everyone, tens of times in my case. The song is expected to do well everywhere, including country, overseas, in Punjab and out of it (talking of the language), on youtube, and probably even on your website if you put it there. You can listen to it while exercising, or getting ready for an exam. If you’re going for some protest, it’s a must have, be it social, political, or emotional. In short, Sadda Haq aithe rakh is a song for many seasons. And you can probably buy the CD for this song alone.

Ace Bollywood director Karan Johar turns 39 today.

Karan has been known for his family-based films like KABHI ALVIDA NAA KEHNA and KABHI KHUSHI KABHIE GHAM.

He made his dream directorial debut in 1998 at the age of 26 with his film KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI.

In 2011 KJo, as he is popularly called in Bollywood, will gift his fans the remake of AGNEEPATH.

The film is supposed to hit the big screen in between the release of two most anticipated films of the year- RA.ONE and DON 2 - THE CHASE CONTINUES.

The film is directed by Karan Malhotra, while Karan Johar will be producing it.

Bollywood heartthrob Hrithik Roshan will be seen playing the character of Vijay Dinanath Chauhan that Amitabh Bachchan had played in the original flick.

The film will also feature Priyanka Chopra, Sanjay Dutt and Rishi Kapoor.

Besides, Karan will also start filming his teen-based movie- STUDENT OF THE YEAR this July and will feature new faces like Alia Bhatt, Siddharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan.

Ken Ghosh’s dance-drama takes no chance in experimenting with storytelling style and ends up being an extended version of the music videos that he used to direct before making feature films.

Chance Pe Dance is stuff legendary Bollywood biographies are made of. Sameer Behl (Shahid Kapoor) comes to Bombay with Bollywood dreams, struggles through the day as a courier boy and keeps failing in auditions for advertisements. More stereotypes are stuffed in as he refuses to take help from his dad in Delhi (Parikshit Sahni almost repeating his Idiot act), is thrown out from his rented flat by the landlord (Kurush Deboo still unable to surpass his Parsi performance) and comes away with his calculative companion (Vikas Bhalla making his comeback).

Soon Sameer is signed as the male lead in a film and friend Tina (Genelia D’Souza) is selected as the choreographer on the same project. The characterizations kinda remind of Naach ; Ram Gopal Varma’s film on dance, if you have heard of it by any chance. Both homeless and jobless now, Sameer sleeps in his car (yes, he could afford one after doing one lungi ad) and works as a dance teacher in a school. Regardless of the references it derives from Jack Black’s The School of Rock , the film fails to rock till the end credits roll.

Subsequently Sameer loses his film and is disillusioned. Tina encourages him to participate in a television talent-hunt show, the winner of which will win the same role that Sameer was to play. In his screen-test, Sameer dedicates his monologue to his mother in the same mould with which most Miss India participants mouth their monotonous thanksgiving speech.

The film starts on a promising note with smoothly synchronized opening credits but by its sixth scene you sense where it’s heading. The screenplay by Ken Ghosh and Nupur Asthana is conventional to the core, has predictable plot-points and lacks any dramatic graph. Kiran Kotrial’s dialogues lack depth and additional writing help by Manu Rishi ( Oye Lucky Lucky Oye ) doesn’t add any value to the narrative. Ken Ghosh’s direction lacks as much conviction as his writing and it’s easy to comprehend how he hurries and fabricates the storytelling in the second half.

The story had enough scope to be humourous but the treatment is lame and laughable. Sameer’s training and team-building sessions with the school kids is rushed through a transition song and does not contribute to the central plot in any way. Though Shahid and Genelia make a cute couple on screen, their chemistry is concocted at the same dull and dreary speed with which Genelia rides her two-wheeler in those two hilarious scenes of the film. Sadly by the time she picks up pace in the climax, it’s a bit too late.

For a dance-driven film like this, the music should have been catchy beyond comparison. Though Adnan Sami and Pritam’s tunes don’t disappoint, it isn’t mind-blowing material. Choreography is a clearly the highlight of the film. Dance directors Ahmed Khan and international artist Marty Kudelka give challenging steps to Shahid Kapoor that he performs with effortless grace, panache and attitude. But too much of song-n-dance is detrimental to the film’s flow.

Finally the entire burden of carrying off this film lands on Shahid Kapoor’s shoulders and his chiseled flashboard abs prove of no help in this respect. He dances fabulously and acts convincingly but isn’t able to salvage the sinking ship. Genelia D’Souza is delightful and appealing. The kids try too hard to be cute. Zian Khan esp. has lost his childish charm.

Sadly, scripts are written for reality shows today but there is no real good scripting involved in feature films. So in times when dance talent-hunt shows on television promise more drama and entertainment, you find no good reason why to give this dance a chance.

Movie Report:

Veer is a film directed by Anil Sharma and the story of the film is written by actor Salman Khan. The film is about Pindaris, a group of tribals, who prefer death to betrayal. At the same time Veer is a love story too. Inspired from Taras Bulbula, Veer reminds of films like Kranti, Mard, Dharam Veer and even Gladiator.

Set in pre independence era, Veer narrates the tale of the valiant Pindari tribe that fought against the British. It is circa 1862 when the Raja of Madhavgarh aligning with the British, treacherously kills 4,500 Pindhri soldiers despite them helping him defeating his enemies.

Pindhari warrior Prithvi Singh (Mithun) vows to slaughter the Raja (Jackie Shroff) and every British soldier that comes his way. His son grows up to be a dare devil fighter, Veer (Salman Khan). Prithvi sends his sons Veer and Punya (Sohail Khan) to London for an education so they can figure out how the British mind works.

But matters become complicated when Veer falls in love with the princess of Madhavgarh, Yashodhara (Zarine Khan). Now while vowing to get back his father's honour, he also has to balance his love for her. How Veer valiantly battles the wicked king and the British and even manages to kick-start the Indian independence movement forms the rest of the film.

Acting wise, Salman Khan is the soul of the film. He looks dashing and dynamic playing as Veer. Zarine Khan looks beautiful on-screen but she carries the same expression through out the film. Mithun Chakraborty is as solid as ever. Jackie Shroff is okay. Sohail Khan is repetitive. Puru Rajkumar and Aryan Vaid impress in their small parts.

On the whole, Veer is more a Love story than a warriors film. The film does not have anything special or different. It's a simple film. Good to watch Salman Khan as dashing and dynamic soldier.

Has Akshay Kumar lost his comic touch?

The failure of Nikhil Advani's "Chandni Chowk To China" has put a question mark on Akshay Kumar's comic journey. While some filmmakers say he tends to interfere in the director's job, his staunch supporters in Bollywood feel he should not be written off because of one flop.

There were reports that the comic element in his next big release "Kambakht Ishq" were revamped after the disastrous results of "Chandni Chowk..." at the box office. But "Kambakht Ishq" producer Sajid Nadiadwala shoots down the reports.

"Why would I do that? The film is what it is. I don't work with my actors based on how their last film did. 'Kambakht Ishq' will have a lot to offer, " Nadiadwala told.

In "Kambakht Ishq", Akshay is paired with Kareena Kapoor. Some parts of the film were shot in Hollywood and stars like Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Brandon Routh feature in the movie.

"It's an out-and-out romantic comedy with stunts of an international order. And why are we jumping the gun just because one of his films hasn't lived up to expectations? There could be so many reasons for it. Why should Akshay be blamed for it? Why so much negativity about him? Is he the first superstar to disappoint audiences?"

On the downside, Akshay's pairing with Kareena has hardly ever worked at the box office. Suneel Darshan's "Talaash", Dharmesh Darshan's "Bewafaa" and Yash Raj Films' "Tashan" are a few examples.

Some filmmakers would like him to end his protracted attempts at comedy.

"Akshay has become progressively active in the process of writing scripts and shooting films. He freely makes suggestions some of which, I've to admit, are good. But quite often he wants to take over the project. When I went to him with another project, he offered to co-produce it and get someone to re-write portions. It's obvious a lot of scenes in 'Chandni Chowk...' were re-written. The result shows, " a director said on condition of anonymity.

"It's the Govinda factor at work again, " said another director who preferred to remain anonymous. "He did so much buffoonery on screen that Govinda made people forget there was more to him than meets the eye."

However, Akshay's staunch producer-director friends are more than happy to stand by him.

Said Vipul Shah, who will launch his next with Akshay and Aishwarya Rai in March: "I don't think the failure of 'Chandni Chowk To China' means that audiences have rejected him in the comic avatar. The backlash is totally uncalled for. And it looks motivated by reasons other than the box office. Many people have been waiting to pounce on Akshay. This is their opportunity."

But Shah, whose last two films with Akshay - "Singh Is Kinng" and "Namastey London" - were romantic comedies, has decided to keep away from the genre in the next venture.

It is believed that apart from Priyadarshan's "De Dana Dan", which is an out-and-out comedy, the comic element is being cut down or dowplayed in Akshay's forthcoming projects.

A R Rahman wins Golden Globe Award as a best composer for ‘Slumdog Millionaire’

A R Rahman is one the great musicians in Bollywood Film Industry and generally known as the finest Indian film composer.

Rahman produced music for nearly 35 wide-screen releases during his first five years in the industry. He has worked with many Indian’s brightest music stars like Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Zakir Hussain and L. Shankar.

Now he has achieved another achievement winning the Best Music Composer award for the unique background score for ‘Slumdog Millionaire’.

A R Rahman’s song Jai Ho has been written by none other than Gulzar. The movie ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ has got three awards. Danny Boyle got Best Director award while Best Screenplay award has been received by Simon Beaufoy and Rahman won the award of Best Original Music Score.

The shooting of the movie was done at different places in Mumbai including Railway Victoria Terminus where terrorists were attacked. The story of the film ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ is based on a novel by Indian diplomat Vikash Swarup. Bollywood actors Irfan Khan and anil kapoor are playing lead roles in the movie.

Making of Dance Pe Chance | Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi

Arguably the biggest movie to hit theatres this year, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi is special for Bollywood fans for several reasons. It features one of the biggest stars in the country, Shahrukh Khan, in the lead. RNBDJ is also the return of Aditya Chopra as the captain of the ship, after 8 long years since his last directorial Mohabbatein which released way back in 2000.

So with expectations sky high, the two most respected personalities in Bollywood today come together for Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi which releases worldwide on December 12th 2008.

The music has released to a mixed response. It certainly does not have the chartbuster tunes that Yashraj Films is known for. Haule Haule is by far the most popular track so far, mostly due to the promos already being on air. But most songs from Aditya Chopra movies turn chartbusters post the release of the movie, credit for which should go to the brilliant picturization of the songs.
