I don't know if it was because of the melodic tones, the humor of Steve Martin or my fascination with a man eating soul singing plant. Little Shop of Horror was certainly on my list of favorite movies.

While on vacation in NY, a great friend invited me to a live show. At first, I wasn't sure if I was going to go. I just got into town, and wanted to see some family members. But, luckily it worked out and I got to see the show and family too.

Anyway, even though the live version was slightly different from the original, the story line was basically the same. Mr. Mushnik was a struggling flower shop owner who had yet to make a sale. He was frustrated and didn't know what to do. Until one day, Seymour, introduced Mr. Mushnik to a rare and exotic plant. Seymour named the plant Audrey 2 after the flower shop clerk he had a crush on. At first, Mr. Mushnik was hesitant, he didn't think people would be attracted to this strange and interesting plant. But as soon as Seymour put it in the window, a patron walked by and asked about the "strange and interesting" plant in the window. The patron was so intrigued, he didn't buy the plant, but he purchased $ 100 worth of the finest roses the flower shop had to offer. Then from there the rest was history! Fame and success shortly followed. Of course there was some consequences to pay, however, I am not talking about that right now, I am talking about the business aspect of the movie. ( However, if you haven't seen the movie/musical, it's absolutely wonderful).

As service based practitioners and consultants, you may not have a brick and mortar store where you can put an attractive nuisance on display. So my question to you ; " What's the Audrey 2 in your business? Maybe it's a Free Report, an Audio CD, A free session. Or something else that is very attractive. If you don't have the Audrey 2 in your business, maybe you should start brainstorming now.

Stop Trying to Get on Page 1 of Google.

I have been doing a lot of consultations lately, and it's no suprise that many business owners objective is to get to Page 1 of Google. Of course, who wouldn't want to be on the 1st page of one of the most popular Search Engines.

However, there is 1 secret that people don't understand; Being on Page 1 of Google means absolutely nothing if you don't have relevant content. It pissed me off to talk to a prospect that was focused on getting traffic to her site, but not worrying about the conversion process once she got the traffic there. For security sake let's just say this person specific keyword was "lose belly fat." She wanted to optimize for that keyphrase, however, her site had nothing to do with belly fat or weight loss. She just knew that" lose belly fat" would get a lot of traffic to her site. But her site was about- let's just say "Gum Balls".

Of course if I was a black hat seo, I would have said yes lets optimize for an irrelevant keyword just to get traffic. But what people don't understand is if you don't have relevant content on your site, your visitors are going to click the back browser to find EXACTLY what they are looking for.

So many people get caught up on driving traffic to their site, but when I ask: What do you want the traffic to do when they go to your site? They get stumped and look at me as if I just asked them a trick question. That's where A.I.D.A comes into play. I write Website Content and when I write the homepage for a site, I usually use the copywriter formula A.I.D.A which I will explain:

A= Attention- Grab their attention with a compelling headline.
I= Interest- Show them that you understand their problem/issue
D= Desire- Show them how investing your products/services will improve their lives. Tap into their needs and wants.
A= Action. Show that you are the solution and let thenm know how to get in contact with you.

It's that simple. Of course, there is a lot more elements going into creating a great homepage that converts visitors into buyers. However, I wanted to get this 1st Page of Google Rant off of my chest. Focus on providing good and valuable content that pleases your readers and you will see that you can get to the first page of Google by being an authority site. And remember SEO takes time. In very rare cases, you see instant results. SEO is an on-going process that must be tweaked and tested all the time. What do you think is more important being on the 1st page of Google or actually converting website visitors in to clinets?

5 Elements of an Effective Interent Marketing Strategy

I recently finished a book entitled: Big Ticket E-Commerce by Bob Regnerus. Mr. Regnerus is an Internet Marketing Strategist who caters to the Medical Spa Community that has revenue of 1 million dollars or more. Luckily, I teach everything he knows for less than a fraction of the cost. However, I wanted to highlight some main points in his book that you must follow if you want to be successful online. Regnerus, couldn't have said it any better than I can. So, I want to share with you some important elements to make sure you are getting the most out of your online marketing methods. So here are a 5 elements to an effective online strategy. I recently got finished a book entitled Big Ticket E-Commerce by Bob Regnerus. Mr. Regnerus is a Internet Marketing Strategist who caters to the medical spa community with budgets of 1 million dollars or more. Luckily, I teach everything he knows for more than a fraction of the cost. However, I wanted to highlight some main points in his book that you must follow if you want to be successful online. He couldn’t have said it any better than I can. So, here it goes 5 elements of an effective Internet Marketing Strategy as Regnerus discusses in his book.

1. Have a Crystal Clear Objective -

What are you trying to accomplish? Are you trying to build brand awareness? Are you trying to increase sales? Most of the time, the answer will be increasing sales. So, if your goal is to increase sales, how will you attract the lead? Simply put, what goal are you trying to accomplish and how are you going to achieve that goal?

2. Reaching Prospects Online-

This is important part of the process. Yes, Online Marketing is all the rage, but is your target market online? Of course there are many people online but some people use the internet differently. Let's just say if you were a dental patient, you most likely will use a Search Engine like Google, Yahoo or MSN to find out about dental procedures in your area. However, if you are a dentist, you will be online. Most likely, you will be visiting industry websites to find out more about your industry. So, the way you reach a dental patient and a dentist is totally different. You have to understand where your target market is and then figure out a way to reach them.

3. Understand the Psychology of the Prospect-
Regnerus is talking about tapping into the pscyhe of your prospects. This has a lot to do with Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Simply put, what language does your target market speak to identify their problem? A perfect example, I deal with a lot of holistic practitioners who say they want to work with people who are open to support and healing. And my question is always support and healing of what? Anxiety and Depression are conditions that a lot of people are suffering from. However, some people may not know that they are suffering from anxiety and depression. Some of the words they may use to identify their problem may include ; stop feeling sad; stop panic attacks, unhappy all the time, etc. You get the idea, what you think people are searching for is actually different than what they are typing into Google. Once you get an understanding of how your prospect identifies their problems it is your job to use the same words they use in all of your advertisements.

4. Identify the Right Free Research-
Free Sample, Free Taste, call it what you want to call it, there is something about the word FREE that has a powerful advantage. Free has always and will always be a great lead generation tool to intrigue the prospect to find out more about your products and services. When people are buying items that are over $ 2,000 or more they want as much research as they can get to make sure they are making the right choice. And with the Internet being so competitive that it is, you have to make sure that you are offering a Free taste of your services that people would actually pay for. You want your prospect to say wow, I can't believe he is giving all of this away for FREE, I can imagine what kind of service I will get when I pay for his services. When it comes to offering a " Free Taste" it can come in the forms of a free cd, e-book, audio, video, and even marketing consultation. Again, you have to really know who your target market is and how they want to receive information.

5. Deciding how to hand off the lead-

I like what Regnerus said here, and I never really thought about this until I read the book. He mentions on deciding how to hand off the lead. You see, so many business owners are caught up in " shiny object syndrome" that they actually toss what is working so they can get caught up in the "sexy tactic" of the week. Why reinvent the wheel when you don't have to? Remember, the Internet is just another medium to reach your prospects. Think about the strengths of your company. If you have a strong phone presence, why not get your prospect to call your call center? Or perhaps, you are a master in email marketing, then get your prospect to sign up for you list and continue to market through them via email. Just think about the strengths of your company and then use your online marketing efforts to direct your prospect to your most powerful proven sales process. Simple enough right?

Once you are crystal clear on your website objectives it will be easy to start implementing some tactics that will help you increase your sales and profits. Stay tuned for next issue, where I will discuss the top 3 Free to Low-Cost Internet Marketing Trends of 2010.
If Small businesses want to be successful they have to find the time to implement effective strategies that will help them with their bottom line. And when it comes to Online Marketing, it's not about the money.
The beauty of the Internet is that it allows small business owners and marketers to use a variety of tools that can put your marketing on auto-pilot. You write it once and then forget it. Social Media Sites & Email Marketing Software both have tools that allow you to do automated messages. " Set it and forget it". If small businesses owners are worrying about time, they need to learn how to use these tools effectively so they can focus on what they do best; running their business.
I guess crazy is the word that is associated with me right now, lol. The point is, I got it done to the point where I felt it was good enough. I am trying to make it easy for people to work with me so they can see the value of what I do. Anyway, I sent out the release and the small promotion, and now I am curious to see just how many people will take advantage of this offer. If no one, that's fine. That just means I have to change my message or the way I present my information. And if people start to invest at my low rate of $ 20.10 that's great. Either way it is a win/win situation. I had a long day so I am dozing off. But I will be refreshed in the morning. So have a good night. However, if you want to check out my " Crazy" promotion here's the link
I don't want to talk too much about me right now. But I have been doing this Internet Marketing thing for a few years now. I had dreams of being a big time magazine writer. However, I fell into the wonderful world of writing for the web by accident. So, I realize that I know a lot of information that people would like to know and more than happy to pay for. But, I am kind of a " newbie marketer." How can I compete with the Internet Marketing Gurus? I don't, I learn from them. I have a knack for research, so I download every FREE Report Video, content that comes my way. And then I analyze why they do things a certain way. With that being said, the Gurus have some good stuff. But who really has the time to sit down and learn? Me! If I want to grow my business way beyond where it's at, I'll take whatever information I can get.

So why is Nina Crazy?
So, why am I saying " Nina Must Be Crazy". So, I am thinking of ways to build credibility. People buy from you if they know like and trust you. That's why I am about to offer this incredible promotion. And my very talented mentor said : NO NO NO NO NO! I respect him dearly, and value his opinion. But I thought if I don't try and see the results I get, I won't be helping the people who need me most. I need to step into my power and show people that they can succeed and it's okay to ask for help.

What's the Deal Nina, Tell me why you are so crazy?
Well, the information page is done, the autoresponder is set, the press release is written. Everything is in place. All I have to do is the promotion. Which I will do shortly. However, my mentors voice is in my head : NO NO NO NO!. But I want to help as many people as I can. And the only way to do that is to show them how I can offer a transformation for their business. So, are you ready? Drum Roll please.........,.

Nina Are You Crazy 2010 Promotion Special
That's right, for the first 50 people who sign up for an Internet Marketing Strategy Session, they will get it for only $ 20.10. But that's via email only. Why $ 20.10 because in honor of the New Year and New Media, I thought that would be great price. Why spend $ 20.00 on an e-book when you can spend the same amount with an Internet Marketing Consultant who you can get actual feedback from? So, I am about to start submitting the release. My mentor is going to kill me, but this is a chance that I have to take. So, are you with me or my mentor? I would like to know.

Should you Give Away Free Information?

Ahh, it's been a while since I posted to my blog. Shame on me, since Internet Marketing is part of my business, I should be blogging all the time right? Yes, Blogging can be a great way to get clients. However, it may take sometime for a client to get to know like and trust you. So, I have been implementing some other customer acquistion strategies. Such as offering FREE Marketing Consultations. The main purpose of the Free Marketing Consultations I offer are simply to assess the needs of my prospects. And see if I am able to help them. Clever. I can qualify people who I want to work with and send the " not so nice"ones on their way." But there seems to be 1 problem, most of the people I talk to really need my help. After all, most of them tell me the same thing in so many words; I need to increase web site traffic to my site.

Of course, I am like hell yeah I can help! Offering a Free Marketing Consultation to assess a prospects need is fine. But, this is where I go wrong, instead of saying " I can help you, pay me." I say; " I can help you and I'll send you over a Free Suggestion Report. When it's all said and done, I realize that my Free Suggestion Reports are actually complete Internet Marketing Plans.

And what do the prospects do with the information? Say, thank you and forget about you, no matter how many times you follow up. How's that for making a profit? Like they say people don't value information they get for free. Of course, you can still give free samples and a free taste of your services, but when it comes to doing the nitty gritty investing your time and energy into a project, you should charge. I know it's eaiser said than done, but if you're like me and you want to grow your business into a profitable company, START CHARGING, people will value you more. And that's what I started to do, even if it is a low $ 5.00 entry rate, I gotta charge something. So, if you see me offering a Kick Ass Service for Free, you need to Kick My ASS. I give you full permisson to! Is anyone else with me on this? Have you been a victim of giving away information you know you should be charging for? If so, what are you going to do to stop it? I would love to know.

The Power of Forum Posting

Forums and Online discussion boards are where like-minded people go to find answers to their questions. And solutions to their problems. So, if you are an expert in your field, why can't you be the hero of the day that resolves their issues?

Understanding Forum Posting

Forum posting can be a daunting task. First, you have to find forums targeted to your industry. Then you have to sift through topics and categories. ( some people post questions in wrong sections.) And this can take up a lot of your valuable time. It can be difficult to find a good Forum, since some Forums shut down due to an uncontrollable amount of spam.

Please note: Becoming a Forum spammer is something that you do not want to do. Instead use your Forum Posting strategy as a soft sell approach. Remember people are looking for answers & suggestions, not an attack on their pockets. So, when you find a quality Forum geared towards your target market, your goal should be to create value for them.

A simple way to create value is to answer their questions in a thoughtful and sincere way. Tell them what they want to hear and mean it. Don't try to make a sale right out the gate. Eventually, they will be coming to your site to purchase your goods and services, because you took time to really listen, understand, analyze and solve their problems.

What is Search Engine Optimization? (SEO)

Search Engine Optimization seems to be the talk of the town nowadays. Exactly, what is SEO or Search Engine Optimization? Simply put, SEO is the process of optimizing your web pages with targeted keywords that will lead visitors to your website. For example, if you owned a custom bicycle shop, you would write an article and place the keyword " custom bicycle" throughout your article.

The goal of the search engine (Google, Yahoo, MSN) is to index websites. And match websites to the most relevant keyword that is performed in the search. So, if you own a custom bicycle shop, you want to make sure your site is about custom bicycles and not little mermaids.

Keyword Analysis

You may hear all the talk about keyword placement and targeted keywords. Before you begin a SEO campaign, it is crucial to make sure you have the correct keywords. You may think your prospects are searching for " custom bicycles" when in fact, they may be searching for " man made bikes". There are free to fee based tools that will assist you in choosing the correct keywords. I won't go in to much detail here, but I will a powerful tool that can help your SEO efforts.

www.wordtracker.com- this powerful tools seems to be the Microsoft of all keyword tools. It is an extremely useful tool that even allows you to do a detailed competitive anaylsis. The only downside is that it cost some money. However, it's at a very affordable rate. Many SEO consultants use wordtracker as a tool of their choice, but you can sign up for a free 7 day trial and make the most of it. Chances are, you will be so amazed with how great this keyword tool works that you will want to continue your subscription.

Optimizing your pages

Once you have your money making keywords it is time for you to start optimizing your pages. And the way you optimize your page is by writing articles. A simple rule of thumb to follow : always write for your reader and not the search engine. In SEO, it is important that you follow proper keyword placement. Here is a tiny blueprint of how keywords should be placed:

Primary Keyword in Title & Title Page

Primary Keyword in First Paragraph

Primary Keyword per every 100 words written

Secondary Keywords sprinkled throughout your article

Search Engine Optimization is not rocket science, but it is not kindergarten math either. There are so many factors that can make or break an SEO campaign. It's all about learning, implementing and tweaking as you move along.

Happy Holidays

The holidays are a time for family and loved ones. Holidays are also great for getting your marketing plan ready for the next year. Building a client list, and keeping in touch. Therefore I decided I will not be posting on this blog, well at least until the 5th of January. So enjoy the rest of the holidays and eat, eat, eat, before you start your new diet.

What type of content should you put on your site?

Congratulations! You are in business, your website is up and running, and traffic is coming in, but they are not staying there. Web visitors are coming to your site, to inquire about a product, find information, or make a purchase decision. So when you put your website up, do you think you should information about your business? Well it depends, for example if you were selling a new health drink, you would want to write articles about the benefits of why your customer should buy your health drink. You can also provide articles on conditions that your health drinks heals and so on. But what if you are a writer? Should you write a whole lot of articles on how to write. Well you can if your target market was "novice writers." But if your target market is businesses, your content should have some useful information that the busy business person can use. For example, I am a writer, and one of my target markets is the hospitality industry. Therefore I will find breaking news or information that is pertinent to the hospitality industry, and write an article about it on my site. Or link to the original article I found, therefore the busy professional doesn't have to surf through loads of information to find a useful article, that may be able to help him and his business.

Asking for help can save you a lot of time.

I was frustrated with my website, I don't know a thing about layout, design or what have you. So I used a site builder, which I was quite pleased with. But over the past few weeks, I came to dislike my website, and I wanted the layout to be a little better. I mean I toyed around with the website for hours. That's my problem, I try to fix things first and then read later, to see if I am right. Anyway I was so annoyed that I even considered transferring my domain name to another site, luckily the other hosting services didn't offer all of the features that my current hosting site does. So I just decided to call my hosting service, and tell them why I was frustrated, and asked them how can they help me fix the problem. And boy it was simple as 1-2-3, my issue was the layout. My current layout was featuring the text where my potential clients had to scroll down, I wanted the text where they didn't have to scroll down. The customer service agent was so helpful, she knew everything I was talking about, and even changed the layout for me. She explained that I just had to play around with my site builder to create the results I was looking for. And I was certainly pleased with all of her help. You see instead of being impatient, I decided to call my provider first, and see what they can do for me, instead of losing me as a client. Even though I was a little upset that they raised their prices to $10.00 extra a month, because they added new features. But after the great encounter with customer service, I can care less about the price increase, because eventually I will be using those cool new features for my business.

How can you be creative with direct mail?

Well I rarely check my mail, because I do a lot of paperless transactions, thanks to the help of various companies going green. Anyway surprisingly enough I still have to empty my mailbox, so the mailman won't get trampled by my pile up of printed paper. Anyway I just opened a mailing, It was addressed to me in hand writing and had no name, I was quite skeptical, but the printed hand writing made me curious. Therefore as I proceeded to open the mail, which the envelope was marked Hallmark, so I thought it must have been a Christmas card or something, it was a greeting card that read " Need a little Balance in your life?" At first I thought it was something from Nightingale Conant, the biggest publishers of self-help. But it wasn't instead it was a handwritten note, from a customer care Representative of my phone company, and inside the insert was a promotion where they are going to give me a $ 10.00 credit on my next bill, in exchange for a free program check-up.

I thought that was a creative little package that was sent to me. I should have been weary because no name was listed on the return address, but I proceeded to open the mailing with caution. But needless to say, I still opened the card and read the promotion. And you already know about what is happening in today's economy, so you better believe I am going to call them, so I can get a $ 10.00 credit off my next bill. Wow I guess the power of direct mail really does work.

Find a Networking Buddy

I attended my first networking event yesterday. I admit I was nervous, I never been to one of those events before, let alone, I was just there to do some research on what kind of writing services businesses may need. I sat at a table with one lady, who seemed to be quite shy herself. But she was friendly, so I continued to sit at her table. Luckily a gentleman approached us, and introduced himself. He told me he was new at networking at the chamber of commerce, I informed him that I was a novice networker as well. So after speaking I found out he was a photographer, which is right up my alley, for the ezine I plan to start. Anyway to make a long story short, we decided to partner up, and approach people together. And it worked out beautifully, it took us a few tries to get our feet wet, but once we met the first business owner, we were on a roll. We collected about 18-20 business cards each, and surprisingly enough, they were all good leads for the both of us. We stayed for about 2 hours, just chatting, getting to know the local businesses, and how we can use their services, and how they can use ours. It was a fun event, and thanks to my networking "wingman" it was a breeze. My new networking buddy and I had so much fun together, that we decided to become networking buddies at every other networking event. It was a great opportunity, and just to think a few weeks before hand I was nervous, and preparing millions of speeches of what I was going to say. Now I know how the networking scene works, I will be attending a lot more events, since networking seems to be an invaluable source to get quality leads. And it helps if you have a support system too, like my new networking buddy.

Do you need a newsletter?

My answer is yes, and read this brief little story to find out why!

I found a specialist that I loved!

I have well, er, let's just say a detox specialist. I absolutely fell in love with her from our first session. She was very knowledgeable about the whole liver cleaning and detoxification process. On top of that she made the not too comfortable procedure a breeze by massaging my feet, and engaging in friendly conversation throughout the one hour session. The first time that I went to see my "special specialist" was at a medical spa in my area, that was slowly going out of business. She informed me that she would be getting a new office and gave me a card to keep in touch. I just have a problem with misplacing cards, it is easier for me to just store a number in a phone, unfortunately I didn't have a cell phone at that time. Well anyway needless to say I misplaced the card. Luckily a colleague went to my specialist a few days after I raved about her, got a procedure and a card for me. Thank Goodness! And sure enough I schedule my second session with her, this time at a temporary office until her office was ready for move-in. And again the second time around was just as pleasant as the first. She did not have a new card yet, since she was getting her own business instead of working in a managed facility. So she mailed me my receipt a few days letter with a new business card with contact information and a address to her new office. And yep, you guessed it, I mean I still have the card, but I just can't find it right now. I really should invest into getting a card holder.

I lost her contact information!

Anyway the other day I realized it was time for another cleansing session. I figured I would just do a google search and find her like I did in the past. The only issue was, is that she worked for a medical spa and was listed with them, unfortunately they went out of business. I know she named her business, and it had nothing to do with her personal name. I did a google search on her name, tried various spellings, typed in her speciality and zip-zero-nada! Sure I can go to any other specialist, but I want her! We had great client/specialist chemistry. And I heard horror stories from colleagues that went to other places.

Out of sight, out of mind

So what does having a newsletter have to do with this story? Well everything! I understand that my specialist is busy running her business. But if she started a newsletter, or had someone help here start a newsletter, she could of had my business. And I refer her to everyone I can. Therefore she could of had a newsletter or even a small blog , or some kind of contact with me, to keep me updated with what was new. Or even notifying me of a special discount or a promotion of some sort. Any other person would take their business elsewhere, and she could have lost a loyal client. However certain things I do not change, therefore I have to start my search until I find her again. But hopefully she is going through her old client files, and reading a lot of Web 2.0 on how to connect with her clients. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I will find her again. So you see keeping in touch with your client can build relationships thus creating a lucrative income. Not Bad for a few words on paper, huh?

Lewis Writing Solutions

Hello,

Thank you for stopping by to check out my blog and my website.
