The audacity of arrogance on parade! Since, the states and communities can't do it, BHO can! The Administration insists you raise the bar on your education standards or lose funding; translation- adopt our superior national curriculum standards or no soup cash for you!

Obama wants to expand the federal government's role in education, which traditionally is a state and local responsibility. His approach has been to use the federal purse as leverage to encourage states to adopt his ideas.Many schools count on a key source of federal aid, known as Title I, to help disadvantaged students — $14.5 billion this budget year. Under Obama's proposal, to qualify for that money, states would have to adopt and certify that they have "college- and career-ready standards in reading and mathematics." The deadline for setting the new standards is 2014.

Obama wants to encourage states to enact education standards that the National Governors Association and the Council of Chief State Schools Officers are developing. All states but Alaska and Texas have endorsed the effort; Kentucky adopted the standards earlier this month.

The Obama administration wants to see a uniform set of standards in schools nationwide, in hopes that it will make the U.S. more competitive internationally. Many other countries operate under a single set of standards.

National curriculum standards is the wrong direction for ed reform, however, plans are full throttle ahead. We must insist that our governors are not bribed or strong-armed into this heinous, losing scheme. Once the feds own our schools, we will never get them back.

The greatness of the national standard curriculum is utterly irrelevant. Students are not uniform in their abilities and cannot be expected to fit into some national or international mold. Not only will this one-size-fits all fail our students but it will kill innovation in curriculum development. Only a free-market creates the necessary competitive environment that facilitates progress.

I made the point in a post on Hoosier Access that private schooled students consistently far outscore their public school peers. Now, we have homeschooled students outscoring the private schooled kids. Why is this? Simple: individuality. Homeschooled students are the freest learners. The homeschool curriculum market is vast and varied.

Public school students deserve the same benefits of private and homeschooled kids. We can realize this for them through universal school choice. The free market can see that their individual educational needs are met at half the cost.

We must insist education reform pursues what works, for the sake of our children.

Rape, Fire, Murder and a Muslim

Lahore: March 11, 2010. (PCP) A Christian girl working as housemaid was raped by son of her Muslim employer and on her threats to report police was burnt by rapist and his sister in city of Sheikhupura in Punjab province of Pakistan.

Kiran George was 80% burnt when Mohammad Ahmad Raza and his sister threw petrol on her and set her on fire to keep her mouth shut to report rape.

Kiran George was brought to Mayo Hospital Lahore from Sheikhupura on March 9, 2010, where she recorded her statement to police that Mohammad Ahmed Raza raped her in his home during work.

She died here in Mayo Hospital Lahore today and her dead body was taken back to her home in Jahangirabad colony in Sheipkupura.

Sheikhupura is some 40 miles from city of Lahore, Punjab.

Sources told PCP that Kiran George have complained her friends about bad behavior of Mohammad Ahmad Raza to her friends but was hesitant to leave job due to poverty of her parents.

Muslim employer of Kiran George instead of taking her to hospital called her parents and made a story that her clothes caught fire when she was cleaning kitchen.

It is second case of rape-murder of Christian housemaid in Punjab, when Shazia Bashir was raped and murder by her Muslim employer Mohammad Naeem advocate on 21st January 2010, in city of Lahore.

According to PCP, the relatives of Kiran George blocked road and burnt tires and demanded arrest of killers.

Universal School Vouchers and School Choice

Public education is a fundamental and vital substructure of American society. It has often been the staging area for equality and civil rights. The attempts to bring a more egalitarian model for public education have been valiantly implemented since Brown vs. Board of Education. Despite these great efforts public education in America continues to receive a failing grade.

We must work to see that the federal and state funds for education from taxpayers are producing greater results for parents and students. Educational equality will only be realized when families of all income brackets have the freedom to choose from a diverse selection of educational programs that best suits the needs of their children.
Public schools are suffering from poor test scores, high drop-out rates, violence, and a plethora of social ills. Our government has attempted reforms and greater funding all of which have not produced the desired results.

It is time to break up the government monopoly on education and implement universal school vouchers. Universal school vouchers would finally bring about equitable educational opportunities for Americans regardless of family income.

Studies show that private schools produce greater student outcomes than do government ran public schools. Parents and students in private school settings show the greatest margin of satisfaction in teacher performance, school safety, academic standards, school discipline, parental involvement and administration. Public school students and their parents tend to be less satisfied on these same issues.

Parents in public schools are reported as desiring smaller class sizes, improved safety, better curriculum and higher academic standards. Despite, increases in federal funding, surpassing most private school per student costs, government schools are still unable to deliver consumer satisfaction.

In 1989, 530 random public school families and 250 random private school families from Dayton, Ohio and Washington D. C. received scholarships from the Parents Advancing Choice in Education program (PACE). The students and parents were polled about their educational satisfaction.

To best serve the interest of the taxpayers and American families we must seek out the most optimal education model. Why are private schools more successful in producing a higher quality of education and satisfaction for their students and parents over public schools? How can public schools reform to emulate and produce the successes of private education? Is the government a good steward of tax dollars earmarked for education?

Private schools are forced to compete in the free market. Their success fully depends on parental satisfaction. On the other hand, when a public school fails the government attempts to fix it by giving them more tax dollars.

Private schools are free to develop through innovation and meet the individual needs of their school population without the bonds of federal and state regulations. Their boards and supervisors have little regulatory powers. Public schools are restricted by teachers unions, regulations, bureaucracy, and micro-managing school boards.

Private schools enjoy the freedom to set their own policies for personnel expectations. It is much easier for them to terminate weak, under-performing teachers. Public schools must suffer incompetent teachers who are protected by the NEA. The process to fire a public school teacher is long, and complex.

Private school teachers make less money, but, have greater job satisfaction. It is a trade off for superior working conditions and the freedom to educate. Regulations and restraints are a choke-hold on public school innovation and the morale of teachers and students. The more money we pour into the public school system the less we get back on our investment.

Suppliers (school systems) will organize to produce a more superior product, when their consumers (students and parents) are free to pick the best from a diverse selection of choices.

The Bush Administration put into place the "No Child Left Behind" act (NCLB). This is a standards-based education reform. Schools must meet standards set by the states in order to continue to receive federal funding. NCLB has been credited with an increase in standardized test scores. Critics counter that NCLB is structured to facilitate "teaching to the test", inhibiting true learning. NCLB succeeded in raising scores of special needs students. Standardized tests for all other students, nationally, in both reading and math have continued to decline. NCLB sets goals at the minimum and neglects the needs of higher performing students. States and schools are then motivated to set the standards bar lower than higher to meet federal funding regulations.

President Obama has enacted the "Race to the Top" education initiative. States are competing for federal funds through innovation efforts.

A national competition which will highlight and replicate effective education reform strategies in four significant areas:

1) Adopting common, internationally bench-marked standards and assessments that prepare students for success in college and the workplace;

2) Recruiting, developing, rewarding, and retaining effective teachers and principals;

3) Building data systems that measure student success and inform teachers and principals how they can improve their practices;

4) Turning around our lowest-performing schools.

This new initiative of the Obama administration is a federal nose under the camels tent toward nationalized curriculum standards.

The National Education Association (NEA) is the largest labor union in the United States. And it is the greatest opponent of school choice, vouchers or a universal free-market education system. Despite the enormous amount of international studies with evidentiary data that overwhelmingly supports the superiority of free-market education over government schools; the NEA wields its massive political clout to impede educational progress in the US. They are concerned about job security for teachers. They, also, argue that education vouchers would diminish educational standards and the use of public funds for religious school education is unconstitutional.

As an Illinois Senator, Barack Obama, stated that he would keep an "open mind" to school vouchers for education. However, as president, he put an end to the highly successful school voucher program for the disadvantaged students of Washington D. C.

Partisan support for school choice remains varied across the political spectrum. Those opposed to school vouchers argue that the public schools would be weakened. Those in support of free-market education, school choice or vouchers include conservative think tanks such as The Cato Institute, The Heritage Foundation and many advocacy groups such as the National Association of Independent Schools and Citizens for Educational Freedom.

An op-ed in the USA Today criticizes the Obama administration and Democrats for exercising school choice while denying the same to the disadvantaged students of Washington D. C. The article places most of the blame on the NEA and its campaigns to squash advances for charter schools and vouchers. It concludes with the affirmation of this post's position that school choice is the best way to achieve true educational success and equality for all of America's students.

Sociologists, statisticians, researchers, educators, politicians, pundits may all argue for or against school choice; the most significant and qualified voices are parents. Parents know what is best for their children and their educational needs.

Andrew J. Coulson, Director of the Cato Institute's Center for Educational Freedom cites that the D. C. schools out spend the private sector schools by $10,000 per student. Yet, the school system is rife with violence, dilapidated school buildings and dismal test scores. Figures from the U.S. Census bureau reveal that the national average to educate a student in the public school system is $6000.00 more than an average private school. Taxpayers and their children deserve more for their money. Can we afford to continue throwing money at programs with declining outcomes? For the 2008 SATs, public school seniors were as a matter of course outscored by their privately schooled peers.

It is time to take a stand for educational equality for all of America's students and families. School vouchers will save taxpayers money; bring healthy competition to the school systems, better teachers, higher test scores and satisfied parents. The government and the NEA cannot be allowed to monopolize the education market with a one size fits all and sacrifice the future of our children.

Fox News commentators, Beck, Krauthammer and Kristol, are using their conservative bully pulpit to lull their faithful following into dhimmitude. They vilified the champion of free speech, Geert Wilders. It is Wilders who is single-handedly exposing the nefarious machinations of Islam.

Is this intentional, naivete or coercion? I ask because Saudi Prince, Alwaleed Bin Talal, is the 2nd largest share holder in Rupert Murdoch's News Corp, parent company of FOX News.

Geert Wilder's is gaining traction world wide. He has been especially popular with freedom-loving conservatives.

Don't take my word or even Geert's. Listen to the leaders of Islam for yourself and you decide.

Ventura High sex survey draws ire of parents

“The principal has spent a great deal of time meeting with this particular parent and talking about how we can ensure that students rights are not violated, because we have to follow the journalistic standards for our students and their freedom of speech,” Arriaga said. “At the same time, we want to make sure parents are well-informed and we have certainly worked with the parents in that regard and will continue to do so.”
Parent Julie Wilson, however, said “this isn’t about freedom of the press.”
“The real area of concern to us was the totality of this, including pages of sex articles, a sex crossword puzzle and other inappropriate things that suggest that some of their peers sitting in the classroom are sexually active,” Wilson said Tuesday. “It might lead them to think, ‘Am I the only one not having sex?’ ”

Elwood Middle School Parent Angered over School-Sponsored Matchmaking Survey

Parent Michelle Everett says her 11-year-daughter recently brought home a survey from school. The survey is a fundraising tool used by the school corporation for the middle school drama club. Students pay a buck or two each and a computer matches compatible boys and girls in grades six through 10. The more they pay the more matches are found.
"I don't believe that at 11 years old a school should be promoting opposite sex matching," said Everett. "A tenth grader matched with a sixth grader? And the school promoting it and it's inappropriate."
What's more upsetting to Everett is that she found the survey in her daughter's book bag without a parental consent note like most school fundraising campaigns.
"When I started to read it and it said a list of the members of the opposite sex that are the most compatible for you, that you can buy the list. I thought ‘red flags, red flags’," said Everett.
But despite that, the superintendent calls the survey a harmless, non-invasive fundraiser and that they've been doing for the past 15 years.

Even more Angered Parents over Sex Tape Shown to Elementary Students In the Name of Education:

A mother has taken her seven-year-old daughter out of school after she was made to watch a cartoon showing a couple chasing each other around a bed and having sex.
Seven and eight-year-old pupils watched the controversial Channel 4 sex education DVD, Living and Growing, at their village primary school.
A voice-over on the DVD describes the sex as 'exciting'.

Sex ed in our schools is a tool of Progressives to further undermine the long standing Judeo/Christian family-centered values of our culture.

Condolences to the John Murtha family. Congressman Murtha (D-PA) died this afternoon after suffering complications due to his gall bladder surgery.

Murtha enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1952 and became a drill instructor at Parris Island. He served in Korea and received a Bronze Star and Two Purple Hearts for his service in Vietnam. He continued to be a member of the Marine Corps Reserves until he resigned as a colonel in 1990.

Tim Tebow is a wonderful role model for America's youth. Did the government schools create this fantastic bulwark of character? That would be, NO. He was homeschooled through 12th grade.

Dear Jesus, thank you for this daytoday. Thank you for bringing together so many people that have a platform to influence people for you.

Lord as we disperse today, let us be united in love, hope, and peace. Lord, let us come together as one and break down all the barriers in between us that separate us. Lord you came to seek and save that which is lost, and we thank you for that. Lord we don't know what the future holds, but we know who holds the future, and in that there is peace, and in that there comfort, and in that there is hope.

Lord we pray for the people all over the world that are hurting right now.

The verse that comes to mind is James 1: 2-4, "Consider it all joy, my brethren, whenever you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, that you may be perfect and complete lacking in nothing."

And we pray for the people in Haiti right now Lord, that you make them perfect and complete because you love them and have a plan for their lives, just as you do with our lives now.

An Atlas reader, Chuck, has a student in the eleventh grade in an Ohio High School. Her government class passed out this propaganda recruiting paper so students could sign up as interns for Obama's Organizing for America (OFA is the former mybarackobama.com site.)
Obama is using our public school system to recruit for his Alinsky-inspired private army. Organizing for America is (and I quote) recruiting in our high schools to "build on the movement that elected President Obama by empowering students across the country to help us bring about our agenda" ............of national socialism.
