Fabric Beads

Have you ever picked up a book and bought it because it had something in it you wanted to try? I did that a couple of years ago with the book, Fabulous Fabric Beads by Kristal Wick, and I finally got around to pulling the book out and giving fabric beads a try. I had some silk fabric pieces left from a sample book that were too small to use for much of anything else, so I thought they would be perfect to use for making fabric beads. I added a charm, some beads and strung them on fibers. If you are interested in getting the book, I have included the link to Amazon where it can be purchased. So go ahead and give them a try! I hope everyone is having a great 2014 so far. It's really cold here, we woke up to -3 degrees, brrrrrr!

2013 was a whirlwind year for me. Selling a home and buying a new one in another state, there has been much to do. Since I haven't gotten my creative mojo back yet, I thought I would share a couple of glimpses on my new studio space and some of my favorite things. A few months ago I was fortunate enough to find JoAnna Pierotti from Moss Hill Studio and check out one of her online workshops called "Mix It Up Fabric Collage". Lavender Sachet

Vintage Santa Snowflake

I just happened to find a bag of those sparkle/glitter snowflakes at my local thrift store and I just couldn't pass them up. I altered several of them a few years ago and really enjoyed it. This time I wanted to try something different, so I altered it and then put it on a fabric collage. I took the bright gold snowflake and sprayed it with walnut ink to give it some age and then lightly sprayed it with some silver glimmer mist. I also used beeswax on the vintage santa image to give it an even more aged look. Well one down and several more to go, luckily I'm starting early enough this year that I should be able to get them done in time.....I hope! Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by my nest.

This post is not art related, but since the Department of Health and Human Services designated September as National Yoga Month, I wanted to share with you a yoga DVD that I found to be life changing. Broken China Workshop

After viewing the wonderful videos in Shari's workshop, I got up enough courage to try my hand at soldering some broken china. As a relative newbie to soldering, it was a bit intimidating, but Shari is there to answer any questions you have. These are my first pieces and they are far from perfect, but they are a start nonetheless. If you want to expand your soldering basics and incorporate broken china, I highly recommend the workshop! Altered Spoon

This beautifully wrapped gift package came in the mail from Marie of Lost Bird Studio. If you haven't been to her blog, you simply must stop by for a visit to see her fabulous creations. Old Hardware Company Tags

On a recent trip to First Monday in Canton, Texas, I picked up some old shipping tags that came from a hardware store that no longer exists. I scanned them and thought you might enjoy using them in your artwork. They are for personal use only and not to be sold as part of a digital collage sheet.

One of the online art groups I belong to (Paper Digital Art and Images) has an Alphabet challenge posted. Whereby we are to create pieces of art in any medium we choose representing each of the different letters of the alphabet. For this month we were to do A,B, and C. I decided to do fabric collages that will eventually be put into a fabric book. I chose Angel for A, Birds for B and Chocolate for C.

This purse was a thrift store find that I thought needed a little jazzing up.

So I got out my doilies, old jewelry, trim and some fabri-tac glue and in no time I had this transformed purse.

Burlap Flower Bag

I coffee dyed and embellished this little bag for a burlap flower challenge on the ning group Paper Digital Arts and Imagesbykim . I used the Tim Holtz "Tattered Florals" die to cut the flower out of burlap and then layered it with some lace flowers, finishing it off with some twine and a little pearl. I bought a divided shadowbox type tray several months ago with the intention of some day altering it. Well, I finally had the opportunity to get this project done. I had so much fun looking through the vintage goodies I have collected at various Thrift/Antique stores throughout the years for just the right items that would fit inside each of the compartments. Some of the vintage items were gifts from very sweet blogging friends.

I recently came across an assortment of old silverware and decided I wanted to try altering one of the spoons. I flattened the spoon end first and then added my image along with the other embellishments. Thanks for stopping by my nest! I enjoy reading all your comments....they really make my day!
